Yo-kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits and Fleshy Souls was one of the myriad titles covered in today’s Nintendo Direct. The segment brought to light a new aspect of the twin games: a rivalry between two Yo-kai factions. If you play Bony Spirits, you are teamed up with Arachnus, a spider yo-kai (the one on the left in the header). Select Fleshy Souls and you’ll be siding with the frog-like yo-kai, Toadal Dude (on the right in the header image).

What does rivalry mean for you, the player? Much like in Pokémon, certain Yo-kai are exclusive to each version. Fortunately, trading between versions is an option.

3DS_YK2_SeptDirect_SCRN_06_bmp_jpgcopy

Additional battle strategies were also introduced. Anyone who has played the first Yo-kai Watch know that recruiting yo-kai to your team requires you to befriend them. In the original game, the best way to bolster your chances was to feed the yo-kai their favorite food. This time around, you can also poke the yo-kai with your stylus which, when done fast enough, will increase the likelihood that they will join your cause.

Yo-kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits and Fleshy Souls will release in North America on September 30. Look for a free demo of the game on the Nintendo eShop mid-September.

Whose side are you on?

Geekscape has partnered up with Loot Crate to bring you, dear readers, this unboxing of the August 2016 subscription box in the Loot Anime line, made in partnership with Crunchyroll. Befitting the end of the Summer season, the theme of this Crate is “Back to School.”LootAnimeSept16 pre-opening

For this unboxing, I was assisted by my plush cat, Rolo. And without further ado, let’s open this sucker up!

lootanimeSept16 inspecting the box

lootanimeSept16 the goodies inside

Who would believe that a normal-sized box held so much stuff? What’s more all of the enclosed goods were exclusive to the Crate! You’ll see what I mean in the next set of photos.

lootanimeSept16 frontside of poster

lootanimeSept16 backside of poster

The first item was the poster containing the theme’s artwork. On it, we see the Loot Anime’s mascot, Yume (the girl with purple hair), enjoying a bento with her buddies during a break in the school room. Flip the poster over and you’ll see a break down of what is inside this month’s Crate. See all those “Exclusive” marks? Every single item is either made or available in some special capacity for subscribers.

lootanimeSept16 Utena bento box lootanimeSept16 Utena Bento Box compartments

The item I was most jazzed about finding inside my Crate was this Revolutionary Girl Utena bento box. This iconic item of Japanese culture is from A Crowded Coop. Look at all those compartments! It even came with chopsticks that fit within the box. I am in love with this thing.

lootanimeSept16 Persona 3 manga

Being a huge Persona fan, it is safe to say I was thrilled to get volume 1 of the new Persona 3 manga, published by Udon Entertainment. I will note that this manga will eventually be available outside the Crate; we just got first.

lootanimeSept16 fruits basket keychains

There were also a set of four Takara Tomy A.R.T.S. charms from Fruits Basket. Each character is wearing little cosplay caps bearing the animal they are possessed by (with the exception Tohru and her onigiri). From the left to right: Hatsuharu (cow), Yuki (rat), Tohru, and Kyo (cat). The figures themselves are very detailed and I was impressed with the paint job on the faces and uniforms.

lootanimeSept16 danganronpa tie boxlootanimeSept16 danganronpa tie

Next up was a tie themed to Danganronpa‘s Monokuma. This tie was very high-quality. Even the box impressed me, with different pictures of Monokuma on each side.

lootanimeSept16 modeling the tie

Here is the tie modeled by Rolo. Doesn’t he look classy?

lootanimeSept16 Digimon artprint bundle lootanimeSept16 digimon prints spread out

The Digimon Adventure Tri item in the bundle was a set of three prints. The prints were not big, each one a little bit bigger than a postcard.

lootanimeSept16 assassination classroom magnet board

There was also a magnetic message board featuring Koro-sensei from Assassination Classroom. The board has magnet strips on the back to secure it to a board as well as a stand to prop it up on a table or desk. The marker (with eraser on the cap) writes in white against  the black backdrop. The board comes with three magnets that let you give Koro-sensei different moods (there is also a standard image printed on the board itself).

lootanimeSept16 phone charm

The final item was a phone charm made in the image of mascot Yume’s school notebook. It has a earphone jack plug as well as a loop, giving you two methods of attaching it. The art style is cute and matches that on the inside of the box. Speaking of which…

lootanimeSept16 box craft

This Crate can be transformed into a desk (a rather cute one at that). The instructions say that all you need are scissors but I ended up using a small amount of tape in the end as well. The assembly was quick and easy.

lootanimeSept16 closing statement

I was thrilled all around with the contents of this month’s Loot Anime Crate. I think it did an excellent job of matching the theme while tying into current and classic anime titles. I also appreciated that some of the items were of a practical nature (that bento box, man).

If this unboxing has you interested in subscribing, you can get some money off of your first Crate either by following this link or entering “Geekscape” into the promo code area upon checkout.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past‘s North American release of September 16 is speedily approaching and Nintendo recently launched a new website informing potential players of what the game entails. The site itself is standard “promotional site” fare, explaining the main aspects of the DQVII as well as containing trailers (which I highly recommend watching), wallpapers, and other media goodies. Here is what we have gleaned after perusing the website:
discover-screen-1

As the player, you guide Auster, a fisherman’s son, and his friends on a journey to make your world whole once more. To accomplish this task, your team must go back and forth through time and acquire mysterious fragments that will allow you to revive different islands (you can see where the whole subtitle “Fragments of the Forgotten Past” subtitle comes from now).

Dragon Quest VII vocations

One of the key features of the Dragon Quest series is the vocation system. This title has over 30 vocations, more than any other game in the series. There are three stages of vocations: Basic (seen in the screenshot), Advanced (which require mastery of Basic vocations), and Master (these can only be unlocked under certain special circumstances). Oh, there is one more vocation that is debuting in this title, Monster vocations! You know those monsters you battle? How would you like to learn their skills and turn them against those bothersome bullies? I didn’t even mention the best part. While assigned a Monster vocation, you will appear on the world map as that particular monster! Learning how to be Slime? Well, now you look like one, too. I love it!

DQVII looks to take full advantage of the Nintendo 3DS’s StreetPass function. After unlocking the area, Monster Meadows, you gain the ability to send three monsters that you have befriended into the area’s cave. The team you selected will return with a “Traveler’s Tablet.” These Tablets unlock dungeons that are generated based on the team you sent into the cave. After clearing a Tablet’s dungeon for the first time, you are then able to share it with others via StreetPass. Special tablets will also be distributed online from time to time. You can find those at the Download Bar in The Haven. The Download Bar becomes available after finding The Haven and then recruiting three reformed monsters.

Head on over to Nintendo’s special site for Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past to get even more information on what looks to be a very entertaining game. And seriously, check out those trailers in the Media section. I must have watched each of them over 10 times.

I have had a love affair with Falcom’s Gurumin ever since Mastiff brought the action RPG to the Playstation Portable all those years ago. My PSP has since kicked it but Gurumin lives on. It has recently seen a release on Steam as well as the Playstation Vita and Playstation TV via the PS Store. To my delight, the title will soon be coming to the Nintendo 3DS as a digital release, Gurumin 3D: A Monstrous Adventure.

The game’s twitter account had an “Ask the Publisher” chat with fans  this week. They revealed that even in the handheld’s 3D mode, the game will still run at the full frame rate. The 3DS edition will also have more costumes than the previous Steam version. While only a digital release is planed at this time, should there be enough demand, a physical release would be considered. And for those purists, a Japanese voice-over DLC will be available post-release.

Gurumin 3D at PAX west

Gurumin 3D still does not have a definitive release date but given that PAX West attendees will have the first chance to play the game, you can rule out any time before September 5. In the meantime, you can check out the game’s soundtrack which is now up on iTunes. The funky fresh beats will make you prisoner of dance (wrong game?).

To promote the upcoming anime movie, Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic, Kotobukiya Japan is releasing a Cu-poche figure of the titular demonic manservant himself, Sebastian Michaelis. The majority of Cu-poche up to this point have been based on female characters so it is nice to see more variety in gender.

AD044_CP_Sebastian_up8-534x800

AD044_CP_Sebastian_up1-534x800

Like all Cu-Poche, Sebastian is jointed and has interchangeable hands and facial expressions. Fans of the series will be pleased with the inclusion of cutlery as a hand accessory. It feels like every season has at least one instance of Sebastian using the utensils as deadly weapons.

AD044_CP_Sebastian_up6-534x800 AD044_CP_Sebastian_up4-534x800

Cu-Poche Sebastian Michaelis, at press time, seems to only be available on the Japanese Kotobukiya store. I would say that the odds are good that he will be sold at import shops soon. In the meantime, the 110 millimeter tall figure costs ¥4,860 and is scheduled to release in January 2017.

The original Disney Magical World was an enjoyable, dare I say, magical game. It had the town (or in this case, café) management of the Animal Crossing series but also added in an RPG storyline, filled with NPCs, missions, and crafting equipment. It was not ground-breaking by any means but I found it to be wonderful, light-hearted fun.

Nintendo is releasing the sequel, Disney Magical World 2, and has launched a teaser site for the game. From the looks of things, old favorites from the original will be returning, such as The Hundred Acre Wood and Cinderella’s Ball (I actually hated that dancing minigame but I hear I am in the minority). New locations include Frozen‘s Arendelle, Hawaii a la Lilo and Stitch, and The Little Mermaid‘s Atlantica. “Magical Dreams,” which are special events inspired by the parades found at Disney Parks, are another new feature for Disney Magical World 2.

magicaldreams

You can check out the teaser site here (it has a pretty spiffy trailer in it, too). Disney Magical World 2 is scheduled to launch in North America on October 14.

Last week was packed with opportunities to reveal new Pokémon with Gamescom and the Pokémon World Championships both taking place. And by golly, that is exactly what Nintendo did. The Gamescom trailer was released first and featured only one Pokémon, Turtonator. Here is the trailer:

turtonator

Turtonator is a Fire/Dragon-type and knows a unique move, Shell Trap. The move sets a trap at the beginning of the round and if Turtonator is hit with a physical attack in that same turn, Shell Trap will deal a large amount of damage to the opposing Pokémon.

The trailer shown at the Pokémon World Championships showcased four new monsters, unlike the Gamescom’s one. Let’s go through them one by one:

crabrawler

Crabrawler is a Fighting-type, not a Water-type like its appearance may suggest (what with the crab/lobster thing going on). It can have the ability Hyper Cutter or Iron Fist.

sandygast palossand

Here we have Sandygast and its evolution, Palossand. Both are Ghost/Ground-types and have the ability Water Compaction, which will raises its Defense stats by 2 for the duration of the battle every time it is hit with a Water-type move. This ability is unique to Sandygast and Palossand.

stufful

And then there is Stufful, the pre-evolution of the previously revealed Bewear (Kiteruguma in Japan). Like Bewear, it is a Normal/Fighting-type.

Which is your favorite of these newly unveiled Pokémon? Let us know in the comments!

It is a big day for those gamers who double-dip into the realm of manga. VIZ Media has announced their acquisition of two very special titles: Super Mario Adventures and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

SuperMarioAdventurescover

Super Mario Adventures, written by Kentaro Takekuma and drawn by Charlie Nozawa, first appeared in the pages of Nintendo Power magazine. They ran from from 1992 to 1993. This full-color manga is a collection of those works. Super Mario Adventures will be available beginning this October.

If you have any experience with the Mario series, then you can probably guess the plot. Princess Toadstool gets kidnapped by Bowser and Mario and Luigi spring into action to rescue her. Nostalgia abounds, to be sure.

The second title, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess by Akira Himekawa, follows the plot of the similar-titled game. Expect lots of wolf-Link action. This series will debut in March 2017. To tide you over until then, I would highly recommend the Viz’s other titles in The Legend of Zelda series.

Those counting down the days until Final Fantasy XV‘s release date will have to add a whole extra month to the pile. The game’s director Hajime Tabata announced in a Youtube video that the release would be pushed back until November 29, 2016. You can view the message from Mr. Tabata below (turn on Closed Captioning to see English subtitles).

Mr. Tabata mentioned that what was originally considered the “Master Version,” the game that solely existed on discs, had been completed. But he felt that, as it is, a Day-One patch would be necessary to get the most quality from the game. That would be unfair to fans who don’t have access to good quality internet connections. So the decision was made to push the release date back and incorporate everything that the patch would include on the initial disc release. That is not to say that the team wouldn’t consider patches and DLC for the future, however. Mr. Tabata also mentioned including “some extra things” in the initial release as well.

What do you think of the news? Let us know in the comments!

With all this hype surrounding Pokémon Sun and Moon, it is easy to forget some of our earlier monster buddies that got us into the series in the first place. Toy manufacturer Sanei Boueki is helping to keep that nostalgia alive with their new Pokémon Mochi-Fuwa Cushion set. The trio of squishy plushes stars Slowpoke, Chansey, and Spheal.

Screen Shot 2016-08-14 at 11.55.51 AM

Spheal measures 25 centimeters wide, 30 centimeters deep, and 25 centimeters tall. To pre-order this guy, it will cost¥4,500.

Screen Shot 2016-08-14 at 11.55.36 AM

Chansey is 25 centimeters wide, 30 centimeters deep, and 31 centimeters tall. Like Spheal, this pink Pokémon will cost ¥4,500 to pre-order.

Screen Shot 2016-08-14 at 11.54.30 AM

Slowpoke is slightly bigger than the first two: 23 centimeters wide, 46 centimeters long, and 20 centimeters tall. Because of the size difference, it carries a higher price tag of ¥5,000 to preorder.

All three plushes are scheduled to ship in November 2016.

Word to the wise: I would not recommend waiting if you are thinking about ordering one of these guys. AmiAmi’s allotment is already sold out so I imagine HobbyLink Japan‘s will soon meet the same fate.

September 30 is the North American release date for Yo-kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits and Fleshy Souls and Nintendo recently gave us the breakdown on the incentives for pre-ordering these two games. There are four bonuses to be had, depending on what title you buy and whether you buy a physical or digital copy.

bony-spirits-jibanyan-medal nyaight

Pre-ordering the physical copy of Bony Spirits nets you an exclusive Yo-kai medal that unlocks the “Nyaight” Soultimate Move for Jibanyan.

fleshy-souls-jibanyan-medal nyext

If you choose to preorder the physical copy of Fleshy Souls, you will receive a different but equally exclusive Yo-kai Medal, this time unlocking Jibanyan’s “Nyext” Soultimate Move.

robonyan-f sailornyan

For pre-orders made through the Nintendo 3DS e-shop, you will receive a code unlocking Robonyan F (Bony Spirits) or Sailornyan (Fleshy Souls). These yo-kai cannot be obtained through regular gameplay. [Correction: They can be obtained post-game.]

komasan noko buchinyan

For those who have played the original Yokai Watch on your Nintendo 3DS, there is a special bonus for you! If you have taken at least one photo with the Yo-kai Cam (found on the title screen), you will get to choose between three special Yo-kai as a gift: Komasan, Noko, and Buchinyan.

So many decisions to make for us Yo-kai Watch fans. Which version will you be getting?

The Pokémon series has had Teams Rocket, Aqua, Magma, Galactic, Plasma, and Flare. Now get ready for Sun and Moon‘s Team Skull! The team was introduced in today’s trailer. Give it a look below:

Let’s break down the highlights, shall we?

Screen Shot 2016-08-11 at 10.53.59 AM Screen Shot 2016-08-11 at 10.56.45 AM

This trailer not only introduces Team Skull but also the minds behind the Grunts, Admin Plumeria and Boss Guzma. We get a hint that Guzma and our Pokémon Professor Kukui have some sort of shared backstory. On a side note, Team Skull’s theme music is sort of grating. I hope it is one of those tunes that grows on you or is kept to a minimum (the latter is doubtful).

Screen Shot 2016-08-11 at 10.59.15 AMScreen Shot 2016-08-11 at 11.01.06 AM

We were also treated to several new Pokémon reveals in the trailer. The first one shown is a curious Water-type called Wishiwashi. It has the ability, “Schooling,” which allows it to go from its “Solo Form” to a “School Form.” Conditions for this transformation, which appear to take place during battle, weren’t clear.

Screen Shot 2016-08-11 at 11.01.59 AM

Next was the Water-type Pyukumuku, whose design was based on the “Sea Bunny” slug. It has the ability “Innards Out.”

Screen Shot 2016-08-11 at 10.59.56 AM

The mushroom-like Morelull, a Grass/Fairy-type, is a pun on the morel mushroom.

Screen Shot 2016-08-11 at 10.57.51 AM Screen Shot 2016-08-11 at 10.57.46 AM Screen Shot 2016-08-11 at 10.57.24 AM

Finally, we get to three Pokémon that will receive Alola Forms: Raichu, Meowth, and Marowak. Alola Form Raichu is an Electric/Psychic-type, whose ability, “Surge Surfer,” doubles its speed when Electric Terrain is active. Alola Form Meowth is a Dark-type. And Alola Form Marowak is a Fire/Ghost-type. It’s design and movements appear to be based on the fire dancers of Hawaii.

Wow! That is a lot to digest. What do you think of this new trailer? Let us know in the comments!

As fans of Fire Emblem Fates, we couldn’t be more thrilled with the latest pre-order from Good Smile Company’s Nendoroid series of figures: Elise! Fans will remember her as the youngest of the four royal siblings of Nohr.

318a2be2a69619dca55be042d19a4bf0

Elise’s starting class in Fates was Troubadour, so it stands to reason that she would come with a Heal Staff and “healing effects” accessory. Look at her! She looks like a freaking magical girl!

b1c60e3c16efa9613fa2788ddb379b6d

And no troubadour is complete without their horse! Elise is packaged with a special equine wearing gear to match its rider. The horse’s front legs are also posable.

88e4b0c9b658caa3552adef084df255c

Elise is a princess of many moods and as such comes with three different facial expressions to swap out as you please: a standard expression, a smiling expression (seen in the header), and an upset expression. I adore her “upset” face. The sculptor did an amazing job with the puffed-out cheeks and pursed lips.

You can pre-order Nendoroid Elise now for ¥5,370 before tax. She is available at the official Good Smile Company online store. Nendoroid Elise is scheduled to ship in January 2017.

Nendoroid Corrin (Female) is also planned! This concept art is the only information on the figure we have at this time.

Dragon Warriors (a.k.a. Dragon Quest) has some of the best enemy designs in the RPG genre, thanks in no small part to concept art from Akira Toriyama of Dragon Ball fame. The video game series has spawned tons of merchandise and while most of it stars the popular Slime character, other monsters do occasionally get their turn in the lime light. The time around, Square-Enix is celebrating some of the bigger and badder monsters of the series in their new Legendary Dragon Warrior Plush line. The three characters immortalized in this line are Zoma, Sidoh, and Dragonlord.

GOODS-00105038

Zoma stands 290 millimeters tall and is 230 millimeters wide. His skull bling hangs from an actual chain, which is a nice touch.

GOODS-00105037

Sidoh is 330 millimeters tall and 330 millimeters wide. His tail has a little mini-head on it. Freaky stuff.

GOODS-00105036

Dragonlord measures 340 millimeters tall and 300 millimeters wide. His design may seem more simple than the other two but keep in mind that he is from the very first game in the series.

These plushes are available to pre-order now, costing¥6,264 each. They are scheduled to ship in late September 2016.

It is great that Square-Enix is branching out from beyond the more “popular” monsters as subjects for plushes. Now, can we get a Don Mole plush already?

This edition of “Crowdfund This” double-dips into the world of mobile gaming as well that of toys. I am talking about Jelly Realms by Loading Crew Crafts. This free-to-play game belongs to the Match 3 Puzzle genre but adds RPG elements a la Puzzle and Dragons.

plushies

One of the titles of the cooler elements is its tie-in with a line of plushes made in the likeness of some of the game’s characters. Besides Nomura the Rogue (second from the left) and Kohath the Paladin (second from the right), the remaining roster are part of various stretch goals. I am personally rooting for the spell-casting narwhal, Narlock.

1e568ff8e39fa5d3c7f0182837ad49a1_original

Why bother with collecting plushes? Well aside from the fact that they are cute and cuddly, each toy will come with a code that will unlock a “Legendary Orange”quality version of that character which will have the highest capacity for stat growth in the game. To be clear: you do not need to purchase these toys to play the game. Every character can be unlocked through normal gameplay.

Speaking of gameplay, there are plenty of features for backers to look forward to. Players will have the ability to design their own jelly avatar as well as customize its skills and those of the whole party. There is a large cast of undersea characters to meet and recruit (along with some real-world guest stars). The game’s cutscenes will also be different depending on who is in your party. Over 50 characters are currently planned for the game, so that are plenty of potential combinations there!

The Jelly Realms Kickstarter campaign has 11 days left and at press time, has received $1,739 of the needed $33,000. You can read more about the Kickstarter (and pledge!) here.

BeeFy and Co. is one of my go-to booths at conventions like WonderCon and San Diego Comic-Con. Owner Menh Voong has such a fun art style to begin with, and lately he has been mixing in characters from popular culture along with his original critters.

IMG_0442

The newest pop culture release is “BMaxpoo,” modeled after Baymax from Disney’s Big Hero 6. The 10-inch tall plush features articulation in its head and arms, removable soccer ball and health gauge accessories, plus a light-up feature on its stomach. BMaxpoo is still available at the BeeFy and Co. online store for $25.

IMG_0439

The SDCC-exclusive plush was Rexypoo, perhaps the most chill T-Rex you will ever see. This dinosaur came with a plush slab of meat that can stick to its tongue. There were only 100 of this guy made.

IMG_0441

With teeny bean-sized plushes being all the rage, it makes perfect sense that the characters from Menh’s “Adventures of Ryupoo” series get in on the action. The new plush line, called “ittypoos,” currently consists of Ryupoo the panda and Unipoo the unicorn.

IMG_0443IMG_0444IMG_0446IMG_0448

Also on display were the slightly larger “minipoos” line. These plushes stand 5 inches tall.

IMG_0449

Attendees also got an up-close look at an upcoming plush. This hot dude is styled after a sriracha bottle. I love the art on the label, done in typical BeeFy-style.

Many of these cuties and others are available from the official BeeFy and Co. store.

The biggest license at Bandai’s booth at San Diego Comic-Con was easily Power Rangers. Merchandise from the series took up the majority of the booth’s real estate. And, I have to tell you, it is a good time to be a Power Rangers fan!

IMG_0372IMG_0374

While there were several items that limited in edition, the majority appeared to be open edition.

IMG_0419IMG_0414

Nostalgia was the name of the game with these toys. Many of the placards read “Legacy” on them and harkened back to the first several seasons of the show.

IMG_0401IMG_0377

Some of the toys on display will be exclusive to certain retailers, like Toys R’ Us or Walgreens. Those effected had the store’s emblem on the placard.

IMG_0223IMG_0228
Real talk: I love Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir so much. But, the merchandise on display, for the most part, disappointed me. The quality reminded me of those Sailor Moon dolls from the 90’s. They just don’t look enough like the characters, especially Adrien (there is something about his eyes that is off, too). The two-pack that was SDCC-exclusive seemed much better in terms of matching the design.

IMG_0222

The portion of the Miraculous toy selection that I liked a great deal was the plush assortment of Tikki and Plagg, the sidekicks /confidantes for Marinette and Adrien. I thought the pair were very cute and their size (6 inches tall) fit their characters nicely.

IMG_0392

One of the big draws for Bandai’s booth was the corner of Gashapon machines filled with Dragon Ball mini-figures. Quite a few attendees were excited about their inclusion. I even witnessed a fan working all four machines at once! That is some dedication, right there.

IMG_0383IMG_0239

Oh, did I mention there was giant plush of Tubbs the cat from Neko Atsume a.k.a. Kitty Collector? It wasn’t not for sale but visitors could pose with it and take pictures. Figures of the game’s lovable felines were also on display at the booth. Attendees had the opportunity to purchase a set of desktop figures starring some of the game’s stars.

IMG_0384

I personally know several people who will be excited about this one: a prototype of Dark Souls III‘s Artorias the Abysswalker along with concept art for the Faraam Knight. Both characters will be part of Banpresto’s DXF Figure line.

What items are you excited about? Let us know in the comments!

I have been a fan of Martin Hsu’s for many, many years. His art perfectly captures the whimsy and fantasy of imagination. He brought with him many con-exclusives, several of which were one of a kind.

IMG_0147

Martin’s Dragon Boy character was given special treatment with these classic figures, customized by the artists: Sean Chao, Jeremiah Ketner, Frank Montano, Cassia Harries, Jim Evans, and Mark Nagata.

IMG_0146

Dragon Boy also materialized as a con-exclusive resin figure, limited to nine pieces. This photo was taken mid-day on the second day of SDCC and the line was already mostly sold out!

IMG_0148

Also for sale was “Dragon  Boy Tales,” an art book that featured daily sketches by Martin. Some of the original art was also for sale at Martin’s booth. You can learn more about the process behind “Dragon Boy Tales” on here.

IMG_0145

For me, the highlight of the Martin’s booth was his adorable Dragon Dog plush. The fellow was inspired by Dragon Boy’s companion, Blacky. He is mostly made of a minky fabric. However, its tongue has a more sponge-like quality and the nose is leathery. I loved the combination of textures!

IMG_0149

Another fan favorite was the Kindreds “Powder” figure set. This con-exclusive completely sold out. It was a 50-piece limited run. Made of resin, these figures had some heft to them. There was something quietly touching about this set. I think it was the concept behind it, that feeling of being safe and protected. Plus, I loved the fact that the child figure can either ride atop the bear figure or hide between its forepaws.

IMG_0144

At Martin’s booth, I was introduced to the smartphone app, PowerCore. The app allows you to register products (there were several at the con that participated in this program) and unlock special stickers that can be used in online chat. Each QR code is unique and is used to authenticate your purchase. It is a pretty cool added incentive for collecting designer toys.

You can check out more of Martin Hsu’s work at his website.

Over at Kotobukiya‘s San Diego Comic-Con booth, fans of both American and Japanese licenses found figures that fit their needs. While there was plenty of items on display that were already released, let’s focus on those teaser pieces!

IMG_0320 IMG_0323 IMG_0322 IMG_0321Kotobukiya’s Bishoujo figure series was well represented at their booth. From the horror film branch of the line, there was a prototype of Bishoujo Edward Scissorhands as well as concept art for Bishoujo Tiffany and Chucky. On the gaming side, Ibuki and R. Mika from Street Fighter both had concept art on display.

IMG_0340 IMG_0343 IMG_0342

There were also prototypes and concept art for DC Comics-branded Bishoujo figures. Of the three on display, Squirrel Girl was by far my favorite. The design is playful and captures the character’s essence very well.

IMG_0329

Springing from a partnership between Kotobukiya and Supercell, here are prototypes of five statues based on the games, Clash of Clans and Clash Royale.  The characters included are Barbarian, Archer, Wizard, P.E.K.K.A, and the Prince.

From the Japanese gaming sector, Tales of Berseria‘s Velvet Crowe and Touken Ranbu Online‘s Shokudaikiri Mitsutada will both be getting the ArtFX J treatment.

IMG_0300IMG_0319IMG_0309

Anime fans weren’t forgotten either. Edward Elric and Roy Mustang from Full Metal Alchemist will be joining the company’s ArtFX J series. Yu-Gi-Oh also has its own line of ArtFX J figures, many of which are scheduled to be release in the fourth Quarter of 2016 or the beginning of 2017. There was even a prototype Cu-Poche (a series I personally adore). The figure in question was of Maho Nishizumi from Girls Und Panzer.

IMG_0330

There was plenty of Star Wars merchandise to go around but one of the most impressive of was this ArtFX statue of Darth Vader – A New Hope ver. The 1/7-scale figure was rather imposing up close.

IMG_0339 IMG_0335IMG_0336

Characters from the Marvel universe were in abundance. I thought the battle-damaged bases for the Captain America and Iron Man ArtFX+ figures were nice touches. And check out that Thanos! He is a Fine Art Statue rather than one of the ArtFX figures, which explains the increased price tag.

IMG_0345 IMG_0352

There was a large lineup from the DC universe as well. They had figures of classic heroes (and villains) in several different art styles. Those from the Batman and Superman series had the most variety.

Did you stop by Kotobukiya’s SDCC booth yourself? What did you think of their offerings? Let us know in the comments!

Entertainment Earth‘s San Diego Comic-Con booth was a treasure trove of pop culture collectibles. A ton of different licenses were showcased within the display cases that the surrounded the booth (which was then surrounded by lines of attendees). Here are some of the highlights!

IMG_0455 IMG_0456

With Star Trek celebrating its 50th anniversary, there was plenty of merchandise to go around. One of the highlights was the Kirk versus Spock bobble head set taken from the episode, “Amok Time.” The figures are numbered and the base plays music from the show. Another item was a crossover between Star Trek and The Big Bang Theory. Part of Bif Bang Pow!’s new Pin Mate line (more on that in a moment), the set places the cast of TBBT in Star Trek uniforms.

IMG_0462

IMG_0477

One of the con-exclusives this year was a pink variant of the Wonder Woman Chair Cape (to commemorate the hero’s 75th anniversary). The Chair Capes stem from the desire to share a love of pop culture in daily life. Beyond the con-exclusive Wonder Woman variant, there was also capes from Batman BeyondSuperman, among others.

IMG_0463

Batman was another hot property and inspired one of the con-exclusives, a Jack-in-the-box based on Joker from The Dark Knight. I’ll admit, this one creeped me a bit. There was also a set of Pin Mates starring the characters of Suicide Squad.

IMG_0469

IMG_0473

Let’s talk about Pin Mates for a second. They are part of Bif Bang Pow!’s movement to combine simple, nostalgic toy designs with current pop culture icons. In the Pin Mates case, the figures are made of wood and hand-painted. Convention-exclusives from this line include previously mentioned Star Trek/ The Big Bang Theory set and the Suicide Squad set plus a two-pack from Antman, which I though was pretty clever.

IMG_0457

Also of a nostalgic nature is the four-inch wooden push puppet of Guardians of The Galaxy‘s Groot. I am told this will not be the only GotG puppet to be made. However, they may not all be of the “push” variety.

Entertainment Earth has listed their remaining SDCC-exclusive merchandise on their online store. Supplies are limited, so don’t miss out!

Nickelodeon’s panel, “Happy Happy! Joy Joy!” celebrated 25 years of original animation on the kids’ channel. And there were no better guest speakers to join moderator Hector Navarro than Craig Bartlett (creator of Hey Arnold!), Butch Hartman (creator of Fairly Oddparents), Arlene Klasky (co-creator of Rugrats), and Jhonen Vasquez (creator of Invader Zim).

To start the discussion off, the speakers on the panel were asked what were their favorite shows that they didn’t work on. Butch chose Spongebob Squarepants. Craig’s was Fairly Oddparents. And both Arlene and Jhonen named Ren and Stimpy as their choice.

The panel then went on to describe their favorite “fan moment.” For Craig, it was seeing fan art and comments. One particular moment was when Carolyn Franke wrote a Hey Arnold! piece for The AV Club. Butch’s favorite experience was seeing a Fairly Oddparents  merchandise question on a gameshow. He also enjoyed meeting fans. Arlene told a story about her doing a signing at Cal State Fullerton during which a fan told her, “Thank you for everything you have done.” Jhonen also told an anecdote. During a signing, he met a fan who watched Invader Zim as a child. He now had children of his own and watches the show with them. Jhonen liked being part of a family’s memories.

The discussion then transitioned to Arlene discussing her memories of Rugrats. When asked about her favorite moment from the show, Arlene replied that it would come from the future, “if” Rugrats was brought back.

The idea for Rugrats came from the time when Arlene was home with her young children. She had taken 14 months off of work and was considering not returning. However, she couldn’t “turn off” her creative thinking process.

SDCC 2016 Hey Arnold 1

Craig was then given the floor to talk about Hey Arnold! and the series’ upcoming movie, Hey Arnold! The Jungle Movie. He never believed he would get a chance to create more Hey Arnold! material. But as fans who grew up watching the show became adults, they pushed for more Hey Arnold! on social media. Their online chatter allowed for the movie to be made.

SDCC 2016 Hey Arnold 2

The characters’ designs have received an update as they are a year older in the film. The Jungle Movie will answer a lot of questions fans had while watching the show. The storyline deals with Arnold searching for his missing parents. The movie will premiere around Thanksgiving 2017 as two-hour TV event. Fans can expect the next SDCC to have plenty of Hey Arnold! content.

SDCC 2016 bunsen

Butch’s next series is called Bunsen is a Beast. In the show, Bunsen is the first beast to attend a human school. There, he befriends a human boy named Mikey. The two learn about each others’ different worlds. The show focuses on the pair’s friendship. Bunsen lives in a Monster House, which is a living entity and provides gags of its own in the show. Within the house are doors to different worlds and anywhere the friends want to go. That mechanic offers a limitless supply of story idea. Bunsen is a Beast premiers in 2017.

Finally, the floor was given to Jhonen. Invader Zim was his first cartoon experience and he had no clue how “things went down.” He transitioned directly from the comic book world. When Jhonen first saw Zim’s walking animation, he had the feeling of “Oh my god, this is really happening.” It was a challenge to translate the art style from his comic book for animation. Eventually, he began change his style a bit and designed things with the animation process in mind. Jhonen felt that was the toughest part of the process. It was noted that Invader Zim comics are still being published today.

One of the big highlights of the panel was the premier of the Jhonen’s animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles short, “Don vs. Raph.” He loved Ninja Turtles as a child. He felt that it had a “sense of person” behind the art. He loved the idea that there was a person whose life revolved around writing and drawing such material. That concept inspired his career path. Working on “Don vs. Raph” was a refreshing change of pace for him. The short can be viewed here.

Capcom hosted a Monster Hunter panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con with a focus on the recently released title, Monster Hunter Generations. The event was moderated by Tristan Corbett, the Monster Hunter Brand Manager at Capcom.  Joining him were two very special guests, Yasunori Ichinose and Shintaro Kojima, Generations’ Director and Producer, respectively. IMG_0487

The discussion quickly dove into upcoming DLC, the first highlight being the Okami-themed armor set for Felynes.

IMG_0488

There are many collaborative DLC in Japan and with Generations releasing there first, many DLC have already been made available to Japanese players. However, this DLC is exclusive to players in the West. It was a sort of amusing concept, given that this Felyne-specific armor is based on Okami‘s Amaterasu, a goddess in wolf-form.

IMG_0489 IMG_0490

The creation of this DLC sparked a poll amongst the development team: “Which is better, cats or dogs?” In the end, cats won. Kojima-san remarked that neither himself nor Ichinose-san participated in the poll.

IMG_0493

The second DLC discussed also featured a Felyne-only armor set. The Mega Man set is particularly special because much of the Development team were fans of the series. A trailer was shown highlighting the set and it was noted that the armor will have different color skins depending on what attacks the Felynes use (they couldn’t go into more detail than that). The color change was akin to Mega Man switching weapons and gaining different abilities based on the bosses he defeated.

It should be noted that, as in previous Monster Hunter titles, all DLC is free.

IMG_0500 IMG_0503

The panel then moved on to how the game’s monsters are designed. The first monster they mentioned was Amatsu, whose mention earned quite a bit of applause from the audience. The monster is an old favorite from Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, a game for the PSP that never saw a release outside of Japan. Its concept is based on the snake-like dragons found in Eastern mythologies.

IMG_0505

Amatsu’s eye color changes and chest glows when it enters its “enraged state.”

IMG_0509 Amatsu has the ability to fly because its body is filled with gas, which allows it to float. Its fins are used to navigate in the wind. The concept was inspired by kites. Monster designs sometimes draw inspiration from animals. In Amatsu’s case, it was the Leafy Sea Dragon.

IMG_0512

Amatsu uses water-based attacks in which water shoots from its mouth. The animation is based on explosive chemical reactions.

IMG_0520 IMG_0524

The gear that can be forged from materials found when carving Amatsu’s corpse are based loosely on Shinto ceremonial garb. The majority of the armor sets created from “big boss monsters” are bulky but Amatsu’s set does not because it did not fit Amatsu’s image.

IMG_0525

The second and final monster discussed at the panel was Nakarkos, a monster that made its debut in Generations. It was inspired by the idea of a dragon zombie. The team pointed out that zombies do not exist in the games’ world and that the concept was strictly for design purposes. Nakarkos is actually a monster that covers itself in the bones of others.

IMG_0530 IMG_0535

The initial design was more lizard-like but another designer changed it to a cephalopod/kraken-like creature.

IMG_0537 IMG_0544 IMG_0549

Nakarkos’ design fit well with the Jurassic Frontier, a location new to Generations.

IMG_0556 IMG_0558

Two different armor sets can be crafted from Nakarkos’ materials. The pair are based on the concept of the heroes and villains of American comic books. The “villain” sets can be seen above.

IMG_0560 IMG_0561

And here are the “hero” sets.

The panel finished off with a trivia contest in which attendees guessed panelists’ favorite weapon class. Those who guessed correctly won a poster signed by Ichinose-san and Kojima-san plus some Japanese badges.

I spoke with John Warden at Hasbro’s booth during San Diego Comic-Con. John is most likely to be known for his current work as Design Manager for the company’s Transformers toy line but he has also held the impressive position of Lead Designer for the G.I. Joe line in the past.

What can you tell me about the exclusives available at San Diego Comic-Con this year?

From Transformers, we have three really cool exclusives. First of all, we’ve got the Titan-Class Fortress Maximus, which is a very unique item specifically designed for San Diego Comic-Con 2016. The Fortress Maximus is one of the biggest Transformers we’ve ever created. He has the ability to change into a city as well as a space station. This specific version comes with a Master Sword, which is really unique and hasn’t been out since the 80’s. It also comes with a unique deco scheme that is only available here at San Diego Comic-Con as well as a unique set of labels and exclusive packaging. The face-plate with the head on the Titan Master is unique. And last but not least, it has unique sounds for this version. So it is a must-have.

sdcc 2016 transformers 1

The other items we have are Titan Force, which is a three-pack of exclusive figures for Comic-Con. We’ve got Brainstorm, which is done up in the IDW-style deco. We’ve also got the Energize Sentinel Prime, which is based the idea that he has been resurrected from the IDW series. Last but not least, we’ve got Wind Blade, who has a City Speaker-style deco. She has the same color scheme as Fortress Maximus. Same blue, same grey – which is really rad.

And then the last exclusive that we have is really special. It rises out of a partnership with Xiao Mi and Hasbro. It was initially a China-exclusive and we brought it over here especially for Comic-Con fans. It is a version of Sound Wave that is able to change into a Xiao Mi tablet, which is just incredible. Fans so far have really been super-excited about this item, not just because of its great design but also its intricate transformation. It is a really elegant Transformer; really cool packaging. Couldn’t be more excited to be here.

IMG_0234

How do you decide what toys will be sold as convention-exclusives?

Usually we try to decide our convention-exclusives maybe about one year in advance. A lot of it has to do with pop culture, the world that surrounds Transformers. Throughout the years, Transformers has always been a sort of reflection of pop culture and I think Comic-Con is a great place where fans of all sorts of cool stuff are able to come together and enjoy their hobbies and things that they love about all the wonderfully nerdy stuff. But when it comes to Transformers specifically, we have meetings. We think about what kind of big news we have on the horizon and we try to figure out the items that best fit in the universe of Transformers that help not only grow the franchise but also do a good job of exciting fans and cutting to the core of that Comic-Con fan. Like, what does that fan really want? We have a bunch of meetings about it. A lot of thought goes into it. It is usually about a year of planning or so.

How did you make the transition from G.I. Joe figures to Transformers?

Not a lot of people know that I worked on G.I. Joe but I worked on it for six-plus years. In a lot of ways, it is very different because you are dealing with 3-3/4 inch figures. You are dealing with a different level of detail. You are with a human design and costume design as opposed to robots. But I feel like there is a common core between those wonderful franchises and that is character as well as the emotional attachment that fans like me that grew up in the 1980’s still have. They have wonderful characters like Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Duke, and even some of the strange characters like of the Vipers from the Cobra team. It is about detail and I think when you bring to life one of the details that someone may have forgotten, it’s a subliminal thing. I think there is a lot of that same kind of thinking that I like to bring to my design philosophy and to Transformers, too. When I do a character like Skull Smasher or Hard Head or something like that, when you look at those types of characters and work with the designers on them, we want to cut to the core of what that character means but also to advance it to the next level. In some ways, it’s no different than when I did a version of [G.I. Joe‘s] Snake Eyes with a lot of extra detail on it but in a way that’s, I think, what fans want. It is almost like the memory is stronger than the nostalgia itself.

IMG_0233

If you could work on any other toy line, what would it be?

That is really, really hard. You know, at Hasbro, I’ve had the opportunity to work on so many great things that this makes this question especially hard. Through my career, I’ve worked on Star WarsPokémonG.I. Joe, and now Transformers as well as a number of other licensed products. Honestly, I think if I ever had the opportunity, I am a big Robotech fan. I have always liked Robotech. I think a lot of us fans do but I think right now I am just enjoying the present. Being a designer on Transformers feels like the best day of my life somedays. Somedays like this [during San Diego Comic-Con], you get pretty exhausted, just you are on your feet all-day and stuff like that. But it is the energy that the fan community brings, meeting people, and having people come up and talk to you and you tell you are doing a great job, it really gives you a great boost and inspires you to try new stuff. I think of all those things, I just really happy to be on Transformers. I feel like I am really at home on this brand. It is great.

IMG_0232

A convention staple, Camilla d’Errico’s booth at San Diego Comic-Con had a seemingly nonstop crowd of fans. Her distinct art style certainly left impression on me that first time I saw it. SDCC 2016 also celebrated the launch of Camilla’s most recent project: an adult coloring book.

How did you get started in the industry?

I got started in 1998 when I did my very first Comic-Con, like San Diego Comic-Con. Now that I think about it, it’s been 18 years since I’ve been coming so it’s half of my life that I’ve been coming here. I got started by going up to where they do portfolio reviews in the Sails Pavilion. I would wait and talk to editors and have them critique my work. One particular editor took a liking to me and saw what potential I had. I started my first comic book in 1999 with Committed Comics. They took a chance on me and I really appreciated that.

Camilla d'Errico booth display

What are the inspirations for your work?

I am inspired by so many things. I take a lot of inspiration from nature and the beauty of color. If I could eat color, I would. But you can’t, trust me; I’ve tried. I’m inspired by a lot of juxtapositions, too. A lot of times my art work is described as “cute and creepy” because I like that balance. I like that little bit of a twist and a surprise. To me, one of the most I interesting and inspiring things is that as humans, we are not just one thing; We are a mix of things. One of my favorite characters that inspired me growing up was Scully from The X-Files  because she was a scientist. She was very rigid. She didn’t believe in all of those things but she believed in God, who science can’t prove exists. She was a devout Christian. I love that contrast and I think that ever since then, I have wanted to have that in my artwork.

You are also known in the designer toy community for your figures, both original and customized. Is there any piece that you are particularly fond of?

I think my fondest figure was the figure I did with Dark Horse. It was a bust of my painting, “No Ordinary Love.” I think I am the proudest of that because it was the very first time that a company created a statue out of my painting. It brought it to life in a three-dimensional way, which was so cool! It took the longest to develop and it was a real collaborative effort.
Camilla d"Errico Pop Manga coloring book

What can you tell me about your Pop Manga Coloring Book?

I am really excited about my coloring book because it is the first adult coloring book that I’ve done. I had a really good time and a challenging time, too, to take my artwork and create it so that was patterned as well. Half of the book is new art. It was created specifically for the book so it very, very detailed. It was a challenge to get that much detail into it. The other part was older pieces that I took and created them into works that had patterns in them. It was a reinvention of my artwork. It was really neat and I am excited to see what people can do with my art. For some of these pieces, I have never imagined them in color. So going to see people coloring them, I have to give up of that ownership of it and just accept that is a collaboration between me and the public.

You can check out Camilla’s work at her website. Her Pop Manga Coloring Book is available now, priced at $15.99.

Square-Enix’s booth at San Diego Comic-Con was a freaking wonderland for fans of any of the company’s franchises (okay, mostly Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts but I did spot the odd Dragon Quest item). An entire half of the booth’s real estate was dedicated to pleasing us toy collectors with displays set up showcasing upcoming products as well as items available to purchase on the show floor. Here are the highlights for the figures not yet produced!

Starting with the Final Fantasy series, we have Cloud, Barret, Sepiroth, and Squall. All four are from Square-Enix’s Play Art -Kai- line which have interchangeable limbs and certain degrees to which it can be posed. These gentlemen share the same tentative price tag of US$149.99 and all have an undecided release date.

SDCC 16 Square-Enix FF15 figures

There were also Play Arts -Kai- figures from Final Fantasy XV , these guys are scheduled to be released this September.

SDCC 16 Square-Enix World of Final Fantasy Static Arts mini

And the winner for the cutest figures go to these Static Arts mini figures from World of Final Fantasy. Shown here are Tama (the white bunny-squirrel-looking one), Cactuar Conductor, Chocochick, and Magictek Armor (fans of Final Fantasy VI will no doubt recognize that one). Again, release date is “to be determined.”

Moving on to Kingdom Hearts! Lots of prototypes to see. Ones that particularly caught my eye were the Roxas Play Arts -Kai- and the Static Arts mini figures of several critters from the Kingdom Hearts universe: Meow Wow, Chirithy, and the Heartless. Adorable!

Finally we get to franchises that don’t actually belong to SE. We’re talking American comic book heroes. The majority of them were Marvel (Wolverine, Deadpool, Ironman, Spiderman, and Venom) but DC was represented as well (the lone Batman figure).
Did you stop by the booth? What stood out for you? Let us know in the comments!

This past week has been a bountiful one for news of Pokémon Sun and Moon. Not only did fans get a brand new trailer but several new species of Pokémon were announced. There is quite a bit of information to go over so let’s take each piece one at a time.

https://youtu.be/TyIkvadJU1Q

I dare you to watch this trailer and not be moved. I get some serious goosebumps every time I see it. In the video, we see the return of the series’ “Pokémon-Amie.” A keen eye will spy a Porygon blowdryer being used in that portion. New features shown included trainers posing during battle. Here’s hoping for some Sailor Moon-style poses!

corocoro8161

Magazine scans containing new Pokémon information were posted on Serebii.net. From the Japanese magazine, CoroCoro, we are introduced to Kiteruguma (Normal/Fighting-type) and Mimikkyu (Ghost/Fairy-type). Kiteruguma is a the red panda mascot costume-looking one on the left page.

corocoro8162

On the right page is Mimikkyu. This species is draped in a Pikachu costume with its real body hidden underneath (which explains it isn’t an Electric-type).

Pokemon Sun Moon Salandit

In other news, Nintendo revealed Salandit, a Poison/Fire-type. It possesses a brand new ability, Corrosion, that grants Salandit the ability to inflict the poison status on Steel-type and Poison-type Pokémon, which are normally immune.

If you are into the designer toy scene, you have no doubt heard of Martin Hsu. The artist has done many custom-painted toys as well as beautiful paintings but he is perhaps most well-known for his own Dragon Boy character. And while Dragon Boy and his faithful Dragon Dog, Blacky, have been made into figures, neither of the pair has touched upon the plush medium. That is, until now.

Martin_Hsu_DragonDog_Plush02
For San Diego Comic-Con, Martin is releasing an 8 inch-tall Dragon Dog plush. The limited edition toy will come with a blank name tag (or rather “dog tag”) for you to name your own Dragon Dog.

Martin_Hsu_DragonDog_Plush03

And if you can’t make it to SDCC, be sure to head over to Martin’s online store this Thursday, July 14, at Noon Pacific for a chance to pre-order a plush of your own. Each Dragon Dog will cost $35 and US orders of two puppies or more will include free shipping. The sale will run for 24 hours only.

Martin_Hsu_DragonDog_Plush07

Martin Hsu will be at San Diego Comic-Con at booth #4530. Be sure to come by and say hello!

Man, Capcom and Nintendo are killing it with these crossovers! They already announced DLC starring outfits from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Strider, Fire Emblemand Okami. And now, we can add Star Fox to the growing list. This one feels very fitting for the cat-like Palico and Prowler buddies, given their furry exterior.

Not only will Captain Fox McCloud be made available as a costume but it appears as though Slippy Frog, Peppy Hare, and Falco Lombardi are also getting similar treatment.

Monster Hunter Generations for the Nintendo 3DS releases on July 15. Will you be joining the hunt?

Elsa, the beloved Snow Queen of Disney’s blockbuster film Frozen, will soon get a figma in her likeness thanks to Good Smile Company and Max Factory. This isn’t the first piece of merchandise from the movie to be crafted by this group; both Anna and Elsa were sold as Nendoroids in the past. However, I think can safely say this figma is the most impressive of the Frozen figures. Without further ado, let’s take a look at her.

figma Elsa - Let it go

Given that figma allow you to switch up facial expressions (and pose the figure as well), there is of course a singing face included. I can practically hear “Let It Go” in my head.

Before we move on, take a moment to appreciate the details in this figure. The shimmering bodice and cape are especially impressive. I also dig the icy high heels.

figma Elsa - snow magic

Here we see Elsa’s second face, a sidelong glance. She comes with two ice magic effect parts. Note, her legs are visible through the slit in her dress.

figma Elsa with Olaf

Elsa is also bundled with an articulated Olaf figure. His arms are posable and his eyes can be moved. This photo also shows Elsa’s smiling face.

figma Elsa with long cape

That cape is seriously impressive!

figma Elsa is available to pre-order now for ¥7,000 (before tax) and is scheduled to release this December. The figure’s listing has been spotted at AmiAmi and HobbyLink Japan.

Monster Hunter Generations for the Nintendo 3DS releases in North America on July 15. Capcom has been generous with the DLC announcements so far, with armor sets themed to characters from StriderFire Emblem, and Okami. We can now add The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker to the list.

Your Palico friends will be able to equip this set (I presume Prowlers will, too). I personally found the set a tad jarring in the video. In a still image, it is kind of cute but put it in motion and it is not my cup of tea. But to each, their own! I am sure there will be plenty of hunters who will fall head over paws in love with this DLC.

MH4U to MHGen Save Data bonus

In other news, those of us who hunted in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate will be rewarded with several bonus goodies as a reward for having save data for the game on our system. What data you ask? Yuri Araujo of Capcom-Unity explained it this way:

The Save Data in question is the “Extra Data” that gets saved on your SD Card. In MHGen, all data is actually stored on the SD Card as well so you would need to be using the same 3DS to get the Bonus content.
You can, however, transfer your entire 3DS to a new one and claim your bonuses on that one.

The bonus pack includes items to get you started in the game on good footing as well as the exclusive Baby Tigrex Armor for Felynes. The design is based on the monster’s look in Poka Poka Airu Mura DX and it is super adorable!

If you are still on the fence about getting Monster Hunter Generations, the 3DS eShop has an impressively-thorough demo available. Give it a shot!
