Briefly: Super Mario Odyssey remains one of the coolest-looking games that was shown off at this year’s E3. The title looks to bring a ton of new ideas to the series, and the idea of being able to play such a breathtaking Mario title on the go is beyond exciting.

Since the game’s initial announcement last year , the main question about the game on every gamer’s mind was in regards to multiplayer. The Wii U’s under appreciated Super Mario 3D World and its intense, insane four-player multiplayer led to some of the most fun times I’ve ever had playing a video game.

Revealed today on Nintendo’s Treehouse livestream, the company revealed that while the game won’t have the same frantic multiplayer mode as the last title, it will feature two player co-op.

In co-op mode, Mario no longer controls Cappy. The second player will control the newly-living hat, who can fly around, attack, and control some camera movement. He (it?) is also invincible, so you can play with a non-gamer spouse or even your kids, and they won’t be able to cramp your style too much.

According to Polygon, it sound like Nintendo may have even added a few teamwork-oriented puzzles to the game to force players to work together.

In any case, while I’d love a more in-depth multiplayer mode, I’ll take what I can get, and Super Mario Odyssey looks freaking fantastic.

Rewatch the game’s E3 trailer below, and let us know if you’ll be picking this one up on October 27!

If you are anywhere in the vicinity of Nintendo NY (formerly Nintendo World) in New York’s Rockefeller Center on October 7, I would totally head on over for a grand shindig to honor release of VIZ Media’s Super Mario Adventures.

The book is a compilation of manga, written by Kentaro Takekuma and illustrated by Charlie Nozawa, that ran in issues of Nintendo Power from 1992 to 1993. As one would expect, the story follows Mario and Luigi and their adventures to rescue Princess Toadstool and thwart Bowser. The entire series is contained within the single full-color volume. Super Mario Adventures will retail for $14.99.

At the Nintendo NY event, party-goers can expect themed cupcakes, photo-ops with Mario and Luigi, plus an autograph/ Question and Answer session with surprise VIZ Media guests. Attendees who purchase Super Mario Adventures at the event will also receive an exclusive poster (while supplies last). The release party takes place on Friday, October 7 from 6PM to 8PM.

Are you planning on attending? Let us know in the comments!

It is a big day for those gamers who double-dip into the realm of manga. VIZ Media has announced their acquisition of two very special titles: Super Mario Adventures and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Super Mario Adventures, written by Kentaro Takekuma and drawn by Charlie Nozawa, first appeared in the pages of Nintendo Power magazine. They ran from from 1992 to 1993. This full-color manga is a collection of those works. Super Mario Adventures will be available beginning this October.

If you have any experience with the Mario series, then you can probably guess the plot. Princess Toadstool gets kidnapped by Bowser and Mario and Luigi spring into action to rescue her. Nostalgia abounds, to be sure.

The second title, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess by Akira Himekawa, follows the plot of the similar-titled game. Expect lots of wolf-Link action. This series will debut in March 2017. To tide you over until then, I would highly recommend the Viz’s other titles in The Legend of Zelda series.

As the November release of Super Mario 3D World draws ever so closer, Nintendo of Japan has posted a new  game play trailer.

A Mario game isn’t a Mario game without power ups, and the trailer shows that there are plenty to go around, both new and old. The game’s signature cat suit gets tons of screen time in addition to old favorites like the Mega Mushroom, Propeller Block, Boomarang Suit and Fire Flower, some of which with new and creative uses thanks to the 3D environment and clear pipes.

Old favorites are great, but what’s most exciting are the new power ups featured outside of the cat suit. The cherry that was shown at E3 gets more time to shine, showing how making multiple copies of your character can have big advantages within the new puzzles and challenges found in the game. The Goomba head that Mario wore in previous videos turns out to be an actual Goomba, which the plumber uses to hide in after knocking it out. Yup, wearing enemy corpses is the new form of stealth in the Mushroom Kingdom. Most surprisingly however, is watching Mario climb into a Koopa Troopa shell and ride around while taking out all of the enemies around him. It’s pretty exciting stuff, especially for platforming fans like me!

The Wii U is desperate for a killer app, and 3D World looks like it might be just that. Four playable characters with their unique Mario 2 abilities, more power ups than we’ll know what to do with, creative stages and new concepts promise that November will be a great time for Wii U owners. Is this latest game from the legendary franchise enough to win you over? Let us know below!
