From the beginning, one of the main selling points of Lego Dimensions has been its ability to bring characters from a wide variety of franchises together under one roof. Heading into the second season of the Toys To Life title, it’s safe to say that Sonic The Hedgehog’s reveal during E3 season had to have been the most surprising, bringing one of gaming’s biggest icons into the Lego world. Hot on the heels of two new game announcements featuring the blue blur, Traveler’s Tales and WB Games have given us our first footage of Sonic in action.

Lego Dimensions Sonic Level Pack

At first glance, it’s surprising how well represented Sonic’s world is. Featuring some of the game’s iconic enemies and locations in the trailer ranging from Green Hill Zone to the city in Sonic Adventure, imagine my surprise when the developers went as far as to have the destroyed robots drop trapped animals when destroyed! Equipped with many of the attacks that have become synonymous with Sonic over the years, including the Spin Dash, Homing Attack, and the recently added dive kick, rings and robots are abound in what looks to be a faithful Level Pack. If anything, the only aspect that seems lost is the sense of speed that his actual games typically have… Assuming TT isn’t purposely basing their adaptation on Sonic Lost World. In that case, they nailed it!

But the most surreal part of watching Sonic’s trailer is seeing him explore all these other universes. I mean, Sonic in Portal. Sonic in Adventure Time. Sonic fighting side by side with the Justice League! What a time to be alive! Scheduled to be released on November 18 and packaged with his trademark Tornado biplane and Sonic Speedster, this is looking to be an interesting 12 months for Sega’s mascot.

Just a couple of hours ago Nick finished up their panel for the hit 90’s game show Legends of the Hidden Temple, and with that, they premiered the trailer for it.

The trailer shows off a bit more of the story and will give some insight into the lore of the temple, and all of its inhabitants. The trailer also provides plenty of references to the original show (including a certain colored monkey statue that shall not be named.) Check it out below and tell us in the comments if you’re excited for it!

Briefly: This we did not expect.

Earlier today in the still-ongoing Warner Bros. panel in Hall H, the studio finally screened the first, impressive trailer for next Summer’s Wonder Woman.

Now, director Zack Snyder himself has debuted the first footage for Justice League.

The trailer re-introduces us to each member of the League, and begins with Ben Affleck’s Batman in search of Aquaman.

The tone looks starkly different than the dark and brooding Batman v. Superman, and offers a much more lighthearted feeling. As one would expect, it’s a gorgeous trailer with a bunch of slow motion… and the oft-questioned ‘The Flash’ effect actually really cool.

Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you think!

Briefly: Starz Ash Vs. Evil Dead is by far one of the goriest properties that I’ve seen on television.

It’s so gory, that apparently the just released red-band trailer for the series upcoming second season has been banned from San Diego Comic-Con.

Of course, the series itself has a rather large presence at the convention, including an offsite event, a signing, screening, and panel. Here’s the schedule:

“Ash vs Evil Dead” Autograph Session

Saturday, July 23rd at 2:00 PM – “Ash vs Evil Dead” Cabin at Petco Park Interactive Zone

“Ash vs Evil Dead” San Diego Comic-Con Panel

Saturday, July 23rd at 6:45 PM – Room 6A in the San Diego Convention Center

“Ash vs Evil Dead” World Premiere Screening of Season Two Premiere

Saturday, July 23rd at 10:00 PM – Room 6DE in the San Diego Convention Center

The second season roars back into action with Ash leaving his beloved Jacksonville and returning to his hometown of Elk Grove, Michigan. There, he confronts Ruby. The former enemies have to form an uneasy alliance as Elk Grove soon becomes the nucleus of evil.

Take a look at the trailer below, and be sure to let us know if you’re excited for the return of Ash.

During their Anime Expo 2016 panel, Intl Creates had two big announcements regarding their Azure Striker Gunvolt action platforming series. First, the first and second games would be getting a physical release in the form of the Striker Pack, courtesy of Yacht Club Games. But perhaps more surprisingly, the series will soon be getting its own anime adaptation in the form of an OVA.

While little was said about what the show would cover, we do know that it’s likely to be a single episode considering how it’s being classified. Whether or not it will be a short episode or movie length is unknown, but chances are it will be long enough to cover the events of the first game.

The irony is that Mighty No. 9, which was co-produced by Intl Creates, announced its own anime version a few years ago at the very same convention, but not much has been said about it since. Yet, much like the games that they’re based off of, Gunvolt is ahead of the game, with its sequel, AND its anime counterpart debuting in 2016. No extra Kickstarters required!

Check out the teaser below and let us know what you think. Expect the OVA to be out by the end of the year, with the Striker Pack hitting stores on September 30.

Azure Striker Gunvolt is one of the highlights of the 3DS eShop. The developer behind 2D platforming classics like the Mega Man Zero series took their expertise and showed that they didn’t need Mega Man to shine, creating some compelling mechanics that showed how creative minds can reinvigorate an old genre. With the second game on the way, it looked like the team wanted to give us all an interesting way to catch up.

At Anime Expo 2016, the team announced that they were partnering up with Yacht Club Games, (the group behind the excellent Shovel Knight), to deliver both the first and second games to store shelves as physical copies. Called the Striker Pack, $29.99 will get you both the first and second game one one cartridge, which will mark the first time the series is being released outside of digital platforms. Taking some obvious inspiration from their previous works, the simple, yet effective action platforming made it more important to tag enemies for long range damage instead of shooting them to death. With the second game introducing a second character who locks on by dashing into his foes, these two play styles seem to be suited for both the defensive and offensive player.

With the anime being announced during the same panel, it looks like Gunvolt is making big moves. Check out the game in action below, then make sure to check back with us as we post our hands-on impressions of the new mechanics from the show floor. Are you planning on picking up the game when it releases on September 30? Let us know in the comments!

2005 was the year that Phoenix Wright took the courtroom by storm here in the West, and where Phoenix was, Maya Fey wasn’t far behind. But after getting in her fair share of trouble across the first three games as Nick’s spirit channeling assistant, the pair went their separate ways, failing to make a significant appearance in the series since.

As you might have heard, that’s about to change with the sixth mainline Ace Attorney game. Considering Spirit of Justice partially takes place in a country known for spirit mediums, you know Maya can’t be far. Splitting protagonist duties between two characters for the first time in series history, Phoenix will be by Maya’s side in the country of Khura’in while Apollo takes back his starring role as he holds the fort at the Wright Anything Agency. As detailed in our E3 preview, Phoenix will take on a court system that has banished lawyers, (thanks to its method of viewing the final moments of the deceased when they were killed), with some new mechanics that will help turn the tables. On the other side of the world, Apollo and Athena will use their unique skills, (including Athena’s psychoanalyzing that debuted in the fifth game), creating a unique gameplay experience for each.

Naturally, we’re expecting plenty of strange spirit shenanigans with Maya back in the mix, but will we see the return of any of the other Fey girls? What’s Pearl up to these days? It can’t be any weirder than that time Maya helped Nick fight Marvel’s strongest heroes in Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. Either way, make sure to watch the trailer below and watch Maya’s return fully voice acted, then check back with us as our coverage of the Spirit of Justice panel goes into detail on what we can expect from the next big turnabout.

As a longtime fan of the Ace Attorney series, I always imagined that it must be really hard to make a sequel for a game like this. As a simple lawyer, how can the development team keep finding new ways to prove that people are lying through text? Obviously, whoever’s working at Capcom is a lot more creative than I am, because they’ve pulled off new mechanics well so far. Their impeccable track record is seemingly continuing in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney- Spirit of Justice, the sixth mainline game for the popular handheld series, asking the lawyer to examine the senses of the victims at the time of death.

E3 2016 Phoenix Wright Screen 1

Finding himself in a foreign country that detests lawyers, with a legal system that relies on Spirit Mediums to take us back to a victim’s final moments to identify their killers, (kind of like Minority Report in reverse), how is someone supposed to defend the innocent with rules like these? With that said, how can the defendant be innocent when you’re watching what seems to be the crime in action, with your client committing the crime? In typical Wright fashion, you bluff until you find a clue that can blow the case wide open. Except this time, examining memories themselves will be the only way to do so.

E3 2016 Phoenix Wright Screen 2

When viewing the victim’s death, the sensations that they’re feeling manifest into words in the vision. While not meaning much at first glance, this method of cross examination will let you point out contradictions in new ways. In the demo version, the time of death was called into question since the victim heard the Song of Ceremony, which wasn’t supposed to take place until some time after. Perhaps the most obvious sense, his sight, also played a role as the person apparently blacked out right before feeling the blow to his head that led to his death. Once these contradictions came to light, it wasn’t long before the court started questioning their full proof methods, but in typical Ace Attorney fashion, not before taking some humorous pot shots at our favorite lawyer. Just be prepared to get it your guesses wrong on your way to success, which gives the game plenty of chances to show off the return of five “chances” before you get a game over as opposed to the health bar that’s been a mainstay since the second game.

E3 2016 Phoenix Wright Screen 3Comparing testimony to the senses that the victim experienced is your path to justice.

This mechanic takes some time to get used to, but I have complete faith in the development team. Like with the psychological profiles and nervous ticks from the last two games, I fully expect to be challenged in new, exciting ways when Spirit of Justice releases exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS in September.

Back at Wondercon, the developer panel for Hyrule Warriors Legends promised that Marin, Link’s rescuer at the beginning of The Legend Of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, would be the first paid DLC character for the handheld adaptation. We’ve waited a few months since then, but we won’t be left hanging much longer, since the Link’s Awakening Pack DLC has been confirmed for a June 30 release.

We were wondering how Marin would hold up in battle considering the only things she was really good it in her only appearance was singing, sitting and disappearing. True to the her character, Marin attacks with a giant bell, with the ability to control water and music notes that damage enemies on contact. Her special abilities allow her to summon the Wind Fish, which either belly flops on enemies after falling through the sky, or swims through the air, taking any opponents it makes contact with along for the ride.

Aside from the new character, Linkle is also getting some new attacks thanks to her new boots. These weapons force her to put her crossbows away in favor of some flashy kicks to put her enemies away. As if her stylish fighting style didn’t already resemble a certain red coat wearing demon slayer enough, watching Linkle put her feet to good use is exciting to watch. I can’t wait to find out for myself in a few days!

This DLC pack will also include new Koholint Adventure Mode map and 15 My Fairy costume pieces. Available to those who purchased the season pass as well as gamers who want to buy it on its own, it’s looking like this first DLC pack will give us plenty to look forward to. Considering one of our major complaints with the game in our review was its lack of new content and how annoying it was to unlock it, this pack can only help in that department.

Are you planning on downloading the pack and playing with Marin? Let us know!

One thing that Monster Hunter has lacked is a pure support type character. Certain weapons, like the Hunting Horn for example, allow its wielder to buff and heal the team, but they’re also capable fighters in their own right. On the flip side, the games have never had a shortage of Palicos, CPU controlled cat sidekicks who either join you in battle, or can be discovered on the field with important items. Now that Monster Hunter Generations is debuting these mascots as a playable class, I couldn’t wait to take down a giant monster with such an adorable fighter. As I quickly learned however, this wasn’t the best idea after one of my partners also chose it, leading to a largely ineffective combination. In other words, do not pick more than one Palico!

E3 2016 Monster Hunter Generations Screen 1

Essentially a pure support class, the Palico has a series of fundamental differences that separate it from your typical hunter. Most noticeably, it doesn’t have a stamina meter, allowing it to run, climb, jump and attack to your heart’s content. Its weapon never goes dull, and it has two extra lives, meaning that it can die twice before it starts detracting from the team’s total pool of three lives. On top of that, it has more starting health than any other human character without eating food before going on a mission. Coming equipped with its own special abilities, it can even heal and buff the party, summon its own items, and trigger special attacks that are unique to it.

So at this point, you might wondering what the problem is. I had the same thought while I was playing, feeling like this character was a glorified Easy Mode. I quickly learned that wasn’t the case. First of all, the Palico does very little damage with horrible range, having to get right up on a monster in order to hurt it. This naturally leads to taking more damage, which is harder to recover from since it can’t carry any items other than the ones generated from its special abilities. To access them, you’ll have to charge your special meter, which can only be done by successfully attacking enemies. But as we mentioned above, that can be easier said than done.

E3 2016 Monster Hunter Generations Screen 2

After learning these details in the midst of a battle, I started to appreciate how well a team could gain an advantage with a strong performing kitty. From an offensive standpoint however, you’re essentially going in with a three person team assuming you’re in a four player party. Add in a second Palico, and you’re down to two, which is what happened with my group. We fought the Rathalos we were preying on for the full 15 minutes, but despite it limping and drooling for a long time, (telltale signs that it’s near death), we couldn’t do enough damage to seal the deal before our time was up.

With just a taste of what a full support character can do, I’m looking forward to learning more about the Palico class in Monster Hunter Generations. What abilities will it learn? What weapons can it wield? Is there a way to make it stronger, and will its support capabilities suffer? We’ll be sure to let you know when the game releases on July 15 for the 3DS, but you’ll be able to get a taste for yourself when the demo goes live to the public on June 30.

The short version of my time playing Nioh at E3 is that I died. I died, then I died again, and then I died some more. This upcoming action game from Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja is delivering on its promise to deliver a challenge rivaling Dark Souls, but even with that knowledge, I wasn’t expecting to find myself being manhandled so badly. If I was at home, I probably would’ve chucked the controller across the room a few times over, but I didn’t want to leave the convention in cuffs, so a deep breath had to suffice. Behind all the bloodshed however, is a beautiful, technically sound game that’s showing a lot of promise, mostly for its deep combat mechanics as we return to the days of samurai and demons.

E3 2016 Nioh Screen 1

As William, an English samurai based off of William Adams, your skill with the blade will be tested as each of the demo’s stages were full of deadly opponents who would jump at the chance to make your day a little bit worse. By making the mistake of entering a yokai haven, I never made contact with any of the demons since the human enemies kept me at bay with their synchronization and powerful attacks. Using three different stances that William can switch on the fly, each one favors either speed, power, or a balanced fighting style that helps you adapt to incoming threats. The problem as that as more enemies began to show up, it became easy to get overwhelmed, quickly teaching me that I would have to have my eyes on all enemies at all times. This isn’t one of those games where enemies will stand around waiting for their turn to attack either, because they won’t be shy about attacking you off camera, from behind, or while you’re in combat with another foe.

When battle became hard to keep up with, I was able to back off and use my bow and arrow to do some damage with afar. Thankfully, you’re able to recover some of your energy and items if you reach your corpse from a previous death, so you can start with a bit of an advantage compared to where you started. Even then, you can’t do too much at once, because William has a very strict stamina bar that dictates the actions he can use. If you swing too much, dodge one too many times, or sprint for too long, he’ll begin to move slower and lose his ability to defend himself. As you can imagine, this becomes difficult as more enemies pile on you, and only becomes worse when you see how two attacks landing can lead to your death.

E3 2016 Nioh Screen 2

When I finally got past the *first* area after about 40 minutes of futility, I was quickly met by a pair of ninjas. They attacked much faster than I could, dashed backwards when I tried to counter, and would constantly surround me whenever I tried to mount any kind of offense. Before I could figure out a way to get by their attack patterns and move on to the real demons, my hour was up and I left a humbled man.

So far, Nioh can be great. It looks amazing, hints at plenty of depth and is very rewarding when you’re finally able to clear those hurdles. My only concern is that I have yet to figure out if the game is hard because it’s designed to make you play carefully and precisely, or if it’s simply just cheap. Unfortunately, an hour isn’t enough time to determine this, but depending on where it falls will determine whether or not the game will be as great as it could be. Or maybe I just suck, but either way, I’m looking forward to finding out for myself when the game releases for the PlayStation 4 on October 28.

What happens when you need to keep making games about a popular anime series that hasn’t made a new episode in years? Apparently, you pass it between developers! After Spike Chunsoft’s 3DS effort disappointed last year, Koei Tecmo and Omega Force, (the team behind Dynasty Warriors and its spin offs), are trying their hand at the giant slaying franchise with Attack On Titan. By turning the tables on their usual formula and putting the player in a mob of soldiers that serve as fodder for the Titans, our hands-on time at E3 gave us glimpses of the series done justice.

Attack On Titan is split up into two major gameplay sections. The primary play mode is when you’re in control of one of the human characters, who traverses the smoldering towns with their 3D Maneuvering Gear. As you would expect from a game bearing the anime’s name, movement was the most exciting part of the time I played, feeling like a Survey Corps bad ass as I swooped in and out of the Titan’s range. Of course, you’ll have to get the controls down first, which had a moderate learning curve before things felt natural.

E3 2016 Attack on Titan Screen 2

Once they did however, combat was fast and fluid. Following the story of the anime, (which might look familiar since it’s the only story we’ve had animated for a long time), I made it my personal mission to make Mikasa look like as much of a pro under my control as she does in the source material, which I met with mixed results. Allowing us to target any limb on Titans both big and small that are powering through the towns allows you to get special advantages depending on the situation, whether you need to stop their movement or take away attacks with a successful amputation. Of course, the only way to finish one off is to slice off the nape of their neck, which is where I focused on most of the time. While it sounds simple enough, there’s a lot to take into account when lining up your perfect slice. You’ll need enough distance, momentum and timing to pull off the kill, and failing could lead to you being caught by one of the monsters. Running out of steam for your Gear and your blades going dull can also become a problem, forcing you to find new items to help you regroup. Trust me, there’s nothing worse than thinking you killed a powerful opponent, only to see your swords bounce off of them. To make matters worse, every kill is ranked, only furthering the embarrassment when you screw up.

But being a great Survey Corps member is about more than being able to kill enemies, because like Dynasty Warriors, there will be many times when you have to protect allies and key points on the map. Allowing too many of your comrades to die or letting Titans run wild will eventually lead to your game over’s, which is why it’s important to play to your character’s strengths. Mikasa for example, has a special ability that lets her slice up multiple limbs at once after it builds up. How other characters will play wasn’t shown as of now, but we’re looking forward to finding out as the game’s release draws closer.

E3 2016 Attack on Titan Screen 1

When not slicing up your enemies, you’ll be able to punch them really hard instead. Taking on Eren’s Titan form, you’ll be able to give the opposing giants a taste of their own medicine. Perfect for when you want to set aside the technical gameplay of the core mode for some old fashioned button mashing, playing as a Titan allows you to jump far across the map with a single leap and charge into enemies at high speeds when not punching and kicking them to death. Sure, you’ll probably level a few houses in between, but let’s face it. Those people probably would’ve been killed one way or another.

Overall, I’m impressed by what we’ve seen so far, and can’t wait to dive deeper into this universe once again. With multiple missions and characters to discover, let’s hope the full version continues to deliver when it releases for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, PC and PlayStation Vita on August 30.

*WARNING: POTENTIAL EARLY GAME SPOILERS*

As fun as open world crime games can be, I’m kind of over the typical formula that most of them take. From Grand Theft Auto IIIThe Godfather: The Game and the first two Mafia games, each of these are examples of a title that asks the player to go through the motions as a low level mobster who climbs through the ranks to become one of its top members. This fatigue left me skeptical of Mafia III‘s ability to change my mind, figuring that it would be more of the same. One look at 2K’s Mafia themed E3 booth told me otherwise, which was only furthered by the details that would be revealed over the course of the conference. Once my time seeing the game in action was over, I went from having little interest to seeing it become one of my most anticipated games of 2016.

E3 2016 Mafia III Screen 2

Yes, at the start of the game, you’re a low level member of a mob. Except this time, instead of joining the Italians, you’ll be part of the black mob in the fictional town of New Bordeaux, (inspired by 1960’s New Orleans). At least, that’s the plan. But it’s clear early on that the Italians are just as vicious in 1968 as they were in previous decades, wiping out their supposed allies in the process. As Lincoln Clay, the sole survivor of the black mob’s eradication and a Vietnam veteran who had just found a place to call home with the group, he’ll gather the enemies of his friend’s murderers and embark on a quest for revenge that will see the Italians get taken down piece by piece.

Even without all the details though, you’ll know you’re right outside of the 1970’s with an authentic feel, which includes speedometers, interiors and architecture that feels right out of the era. Serving as a mostly untapped time period within this genre, watching Mafia III in action felt instantly compelling because of it, not shying away from some of the more controversial topics at the time. With Vietnam being a guaranteed theme thanks to Lincoln’s background and hints at civil unrest due to the anti war sentiment rising throughout the country, at least one of the Italian lieutenants that you’re asked to take down was even hinted at being part of the Ku Klux Klan, showing in game renderings of a cross burning. As a black character, it will be interesting to see how far the game is willing to delve into the dark side of history at the time, especially while being fresh off of the Civil Rights movement.

E3 2016 Mafia III Screen 1

But history aside, the reason why most of us play these games are to shoot up hundreds of bad guys and feel like a bad ass while doing it. New Bordeaux is divided up into districts, each of which is controlled by a different lieutenant that’s responsible for a different racket. Much like the early Assassin’s Creed games, Lincoln must gather information across a variety of missions before he can approach each target. Allowing players to choose between using stealth, starting shootouts or going in with a group of loyal AI partners to help you fight off enemies and escape with your life, we’re promised multiple ways to approach the same situations.

Once the territory is taken however, that’s where the real fight begins. It’s up to Lincoln to divide up the claimed parts of the city between his own three lieutenants, each of which have as much of a grudge against the Italians as you do. Cassandra, the leader of the town’s Haitian gang, Thomas Burke, who runs a local scrapyard when he’s not leading the Irish gang, and Vito Scaletta, the Mafia II protagonist who is aiding Lincoln after another stint in prison, (and an attempt at a normal life), each give you missions and support when out on the field, which can be called upon at various points in battle. At the end of the day though, they want power just as much as you do, which is why intense negotiations take place once each district is completed. The three underbosses will plead their case as to why you should give them your newly claimed land, each with different in-game benefits to go with the choice. The characters will remember what you’ve picked in the past, guilt tripping you for neglecting them while using their past success to convince you to pile more on top of them. Keeping in mind that you’re working with criminals, shunning one too many times can lead to them turning on you, unlocking bonus missions where you have to put their potential coup to an end before it gets started. Your choices will determine if you’ll ever come across one of these scenarios, but it’s definitely looking like the game will be worth playing multiple times to see the various scenarios play out.

E3 2016 Mafia III Screen 3

A new setting, a new time period, a new approach to taking on missions, and a new level of consequence that comes with your choices. After learning what we have, is there a reason NOT to be excited about Mafia III? Check out the E3 trailer below and get up to speed, then let us know in the comments what you’re most looking forward to when the game releases for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on October 7.

Atlus and SNK Playmore have delivered their next reveal trailer for the upcoming fighting game, The King of Fighters XIV. Showing off Team Official Invitation, the first full team of new characters, this odd group seems to have a few sinister surprises behind their varied personalities.

First up is Kukri, a mysterious hooded man who can control, and even dissolve into sand when attacking his opponents. Using these skills to teleport, do damage from both sides of the screen, and overwhelm his opponents with a tidal wave, the sand effects are some of the best visuals we’ve seen from the game to date.

Moving away from the supernatural in favor of straight up ass kicking, Mian draws inspiration from Chinese Operas and integrates that with her Bian Lian martial arts. Showing off some of her impressive looking combos, the only time the masked fighter shows her face is when she’s ready to unleash her most powerful attack to take down her opponent. In her case, looks can be very deceiving, in more ways than one.

Lastly is the team’s leader, Sylvie, who we got to try at E3 this year. As a former member of the NESTS organization from the KOF 99 – 2001, the seemingly wacky girl obtained power over electricity, which she isn’t afraid to unleash in battle. Aside from her unorthodox fighting style and appearance, she seems to be hiding a much darker side of herself, which peaks out when her strongest technique is pulled off. It makes you wonder what kind of power she really holds if she’s able to take the lead in a team as powerful as this one.

With that in mind, I can’t help but feel this team will play a major role in the game’s story. Aside from their team name, which implies that they’re special guests of the tournament, teams featuring all new characters have often been primary antagonists in the past. Sylvie’s change in demeanor only confirms this, which is more the reason as to why I can’t wait to play this when it releases on August 23 exclusively on the PlayStation 4.

While no stranger to crossovers, Strider Hiryu’s latest appearance might be his greatest one yet. Capcom has announced that the purple clad ninja’s gear and trademark weapon will be available for your hunters in Monster Hunter Generations.

As the star of his own brutally difficult side scrolling platformer that were all the rage when it released in 1989, Strider was unique with the game’s futuristic setting, robotic gear, and the ability to wall climb. Largely forgotten until his re-appearance in Marvel Vs. Capcom skyrocketed him to gaming super-stardom, the character has since received two more games, and guest appearances in non-Capcom games such as Project X Zone 2. With most of his modern following stemming from these crossover games, it’s no surprise that Monster Hunter Generations would add Hiryu to its growing list of cameos, joining Arthur from Ghosts n’ Goblins, Ametarasu of Okami fame, and Marth’s equipment found throughout Nintendo’s Fire Emblem  series, Strider seems like a perfect fit.

Out of all of the guest appearances, which ones are you looking forward to the most? Are there any you hope return from Monster Hunter 4? Let us know in the comments, and make sure to check out our impressions of the E3 demo when you’re done!

It’s been too long since we’ve had a chance to play a new Rhythm Heaven game. Feeling the need to rectify this, Nintendo announced the next game in the addicting minigame series, Rhythm Heaven Megamix, during their Nintendo Treehouse presentation. Oh, and it’s out now!

From the minds behind the WarioWare franchise, Rhythm Heaven consists of dozens of music based mini games that range from conducting interviews, to singing with a choir and playing Ping Pong. It sounds mundane on paper, but with the crazy characters, charming music and adorable animations that give the game so much personality, Megamix is promising to be even bigger and much better. Featuring new games alongside popular picks from the Game Boy Advance, DS and Wii versions, experiencing the insanity of the game with friends will be even easier thanks to up to four players being able to join in with one copy of the game. StreetPass battles and bonus games that you can unlock with strong performances look to round out what looks like an already packed game, and it doesn’t hurt at all that the wait for the game is non-existent.

If you haven’t played one of these games before, this is looking like the perfect entry point. At $29.99 on the Nintendo eShop, the online store just got a lot more interesting. Are you planning on jumping back into the rhythm, and what minigames are you hoping return?

If 721 Pokemon wasn’t enough for you to catch, get ready for three more!

Revealed during the Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon Nintendo Treehouse demo, we were able to meet Yungoos, Pikipek and Grubbin. Seemingly some of the first Pokemon we’ll meet by filling that Rattata, Pidgey and Caterpie role, each one has its own unique typing and abilities to help them in battle. Yungoos for example, is a Normal type that has either the new Stakeout ability or Strong Jaw, which increases the strength of bite based attacks. Pikipek is a woodpecker that falls under the typical Flying / Normal typing, with Keen Eye or Skill Link as its possible abilities, the latter of which is especially useful since it ensures that multi hit attacks will always strike the maximum of five times. Lastly, Grubbin is a Bug Pokemon with the Swarm ability, making it more likely to run into wild Pokemon in the field.

Check out the trailer below to see them in action, alongside the official in game confirmation of the Mythical Pokemon, Magearna, who gets a Special Attack boost when its partner faints in a multi battle thanks to its Soul Heart ability, (and is a perfect way to strengthen its signature move, Fleur Cannon,) and an overview of the new Battle Royal battle type! What are your thoughts on the first of many new monsters we’ll be able to catch?

Last week, Microsoft held their annual E3 Press Conference, and with it, they finally rose the curtain a bit more on Rare’s anticipated pirate adventure game Sea Of Thieves.

The cinematic sheds a bit of backstory onto the game and hints at exciting features that you’ll be able to experience such as ship battles, treasure hunting, and of course, kraken battles. All this to the beautiful tune of a sorrow song very reminiscent of the sea chantey What Do You Do With A Drunken Sailor? While the game has no solid release yet, studio head Craig Duncan has confirmed that they want to put the game into closed beta soon so that fans can finally experience it. Sea Of Thieves will launch for Xbox One and Windows 10 in the future.

Not much has been known about Detroit: Become Human since it’s “PS3 Tech-Demo” from way back in 2012. It appeared that it was going to be another “David Cage” game, mostly an interactive choose your own adventure movie.

Those assertions weren’t far off apparently, as the first ACTUAL trailer hit the web not to long ago. What surprised me personally, was how fucking cool this game looks.

Original announcements placed the player in the role of Kara, the subject of the PS3 Tech-Demo. A brand new off the line Android trying to survive in Detroit City. Now it looks like you’re taking the role of Android investigator Conner.

The sci-fi settings, the LA Noire like investigations/interrogations have got me PUMPED for this title.

I’ve never been a huge fan of David Cage games, but it looks like things are going to change for me.

No announcement on release date as of yet.

Just when you thought that Spider-Man has ran out of ways to surprise us in a video game adaptation, here comes Insomniac Games to prove us wrong. Announced during Sony’s E3 2016 press conference, Spider-Man PS4,  (a working title if you couldn’t tell,) will bring the wall crawler to Sony’s console exclusively in a way that’s never been seen before.

As breathtaking as it was to swing through New York in past games, the mechanic has become somewhat passe, especially when it hasn’t been improved on much since Spider-Man 2 released over a decade ago. With that in mind, color me surprised when the teaser for the new game showed Spidey truly making the city his own. Whether bounding off of tables and crashing through a window from the inside of a cafe while in pursuit of a bad guy, seeing the city break apart while he finds himself locked in battle with an enemy, or his slick webbing animations that help him tie up crooks in style, the minute of footage already gives us hope that this could be the best Spider-Man game yet. The improvements to movement, combat and environment interaction are already apparent, so with a developer with the reputation that Insomniac has earned at the helm, we’re guessing this is going to be great.

This has been a big year for Spider-Man, and 2017 can only get better once this game finds its way into our hands if the placeholder date is anything to go by. Are you ready to throw on the underoos one more time?

After what feels like ages, Crash Bandicoot is finally making his long awaited return to gaming. And no, I don’t mean his much talked about cameo in Uncharted 4. Years of patience finally looks like it’s going to pay off, as Sony announced during their E3 2016 press conference that their former mascot would make his long awaited comback… In a remaster and as a Skylander? Sure, it might not be a brand new game, but we’ll have plenty of time to get reacquainted with the Playstation’s former mascot across both sets of games.

E3 2016 Crash Skylander

Coming exclusively to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, Crash will join Spyro for the first time in Skylanders Imaginators, the sixth game in the toys to life series that will let players design their own characters. As a debuting feature for the series, the upcoming game developed by Toys For Bob promises to bring a level of creativity that hasn’t been possible throughout the series until now. But aside from these features, this will mark the first time Crash will be playable in a new game since 2008’s Mind Over Mutant.

Retailing at $99.99, ($25 dollars more than the standard edition for some reason,) special care is being taken to faithfully bring Crash into this world. Using trademark weapons and attacks like his Spin Attack, Bazooka and TNT Crates as part of his move set, the series has proven that they can do right by these guest characters when you consider how well Bowser and Donkey Kong came off. Unlike Nintendo’s guests however, Crash will be compatible with every version of Imaginators, including on the Xbox and Wii platforms. They’re even bringing in Jess Harnell, Crash’s voice actor, to reprise his role.

E3 2016 Crash Skylander Starter Pack

Regarding the remaster, the package will include the first three games from the PS1 days, including Crash Bandicoot, Crash 2: The Wrath Of Cortex, and Crash 3: Warped. Promising to build them from the ground up as a partnership between Activision and Sony, it seems like the former will be taking the reigns with this current gen adaptation. While it would have been great to see team members from Naughty Dog work on the project that made them household names again, let’s hope a team like Vicarious Visions takes these beloved characters and makes a faithful recreation of a series that many of us hold so dearly. But you know… No pressure or anything.

What do you think of Crash’s big return? Comment below and let us know, and make sure you check him out in the latest Skylanders Imaginators trailer below.

When Capcom promised that it would bring the Resident Evil franchise back to its horror roots after Resident Evil suffered both critically and financially due in part to its action heavy direction, we never would have expected the series to get the full PT treatment. Yet, after Resident Evil 7 debuted at Sony’s E3 2016 press conference, we’re left with something that is undeniably creepy, but looks a lot more like something we’d expect from Silent Hill.

Based on the trailer below, we don’t have a whole lot to go on. Taking place in America in the aftermath of the events in Resident Evil 6, the first person horror game takes players through a decrepit house, full of all of the grotesque imagery that we would be more likely to see in a certain playable teaser. Using a variety of jump scares, the dark atmosphere, and visual tricks to keep the player feeling tense, that sense of horror that the series has been lacking definitely feels like it’s back in play. Considering that the entire game can be played using PlayStation VR only makes the idea that much more terrifying.

This trailer is such a departure from past Resident Evil games that I can’t help but have a mountain of questions after watching it over. Where are all the monsters? Why do ghosts seem to be such a major part of the scare factor? Will there be any zombies or tie ins to the Umbrella Corporation? And how will the Wesker family tie in to the whole thing after the conclusion of Revelations 2?  We’re definitely intrigued with this new direction, and I’m glad to see that someone is picking up the PT mantle after so many indie games have ultimately failed. Still, I can’t help but laugh at the irony that after years of being accused of ignoring their fans, Capcom finally listens… To Konami’s!

Plus members, go download that demo and tell us what you think in the comments. There’s definitely a lot to talk about, so I’m looking forward to your thoughts on this new direction! One thing is for sure though, RE7 is putting the horror back into the series that put it on the map.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is scheduled to release on

The last time we parted ways with Kratos, he had just finished killing Zeus after slaughtering most of the Greek gods, and stabbed himself with the Blade of Olympus, seemingly killing himself while releasing the power of the blade for the world’s use. Fast forward to the new God of War that Sony debuted at their E3 2016 press conference, and he seems to be doing pretty well for a guy who had a sword through his body. With a son, a new world and a new life for him to enjoy, it seems he’s finally picked up the pieces of his life well, all things considered. But after being known as the God of War and the most fearsome warrior the Spartans have ever produced, it seems all that he’s interested fighting for these days is the title of World’s Best Dad.

Framed as Kratos teaching his son how to hunt in a Norse setting, this is a *VERY* different God of War than what we’re used to. With the camera fixed on a behind the back third person view, the axe wielding Kratos uses both his fists and his weapons to attack different enemies. From wildlife to the towering giants we’re used to fighting throughout the series, there’s little that’s recognizable when comparing this trailer to the past games. To me, this is definitely a good thing, since it’s rare that developers will take such a huge chance on an established franchise. From the gameplay to Kratos’ bushy new beard, all we know for sure is that the former god is preparing his son for something. As we see dragons flying in the distance, we have no idea what that thing is, but this set up has me begging for more. And I say that as someone who wasn’t a huge fan of the originals to begin with.

I felt like this was the definite highlight of Sony’s presentation, but I’d love to hear your thoughts on these bold, new steps that the series seems to be taking. Do you miss the chain wielding sociopath from the past, or is this more subdued papa Kratos something you’re willing to go with? Share your opinions below, and catch up with the game’s massive trailer below.

Heading into the Microsoft E3 2016 conference, we were expecting to be wowed by your usual suspects. Your Gears of War 4‘s, and Halo Wars 2‘s of the world definitely left an impression, but none more so than We Happy Few, a first person horror game where you’re trapped in a community filled with people who are drugged into a state of false happiness. When watching the trailer, let’s just say we’ll have plenty of trouble sleeping tonight.

As a character who obviously has something wrong with him, it was immediately apparent that something was off. Everyone he comes across has a false albino face, with fashion and attitudes that you’d expect to find in a 60’s sitcom. It’s not until your supposed family convinces you to break open a “pinata” that you realize you just cracked open a dead animal. Nothing is right in this world, and refusing to take your happy pills threatens to destroy their false utopia. As a “downer,” your character is tasked with escaping these happy few, who are out to eliminate anything that could get in the way of this illusion.

This trailer showed off a very intriguing take on the foundation of narrative driven  first person titles such as Bioshock, and has the potential to leave a strong impression on us once its released. I mean, if a few short minutes during the trailer managed to shock us so bad, imagine what the full product will be like!

We Happy Few looks like it could be one of the surprise hits of E3, but what do you think so far? If you really want to do this to yourself, you can watch the trailer again and share your thoughts, and be sure to check back with us as we deliver all of our news and previews from the event.

One of the major focuses at Microsoft’s E3 2016 presentation was its implementation of the Xbox Play Anywhere program, an ecosystem between the Xbox One and Windows 10 where game saves, progress, achievements and even purchases are shared between both versions, including digital copies of the full games. Announcing that Gears Of War 4 would be the first release to be included as part of this program, that might be enough reason for some to consider picking up the fourth game in what is considered one of the Xbox’s premiere exclusives. But then we saw the trailer, and realized it didn’t need it, because it’s clear how good this fourth game is starting to shape up.

Playing as a new squad years after the conclusion of Gears of War 3, the team takes on a new threat called The Swarm. Showing off a variety of enemies in their ranks, it wasn’t always enough to shoot through their grunts to progress. In what was the most welcomed improvement that I could make out throughout the footage shown, you’ll have to rely on wit as much as firepower to overcome your new foes. Using pieces of the environment like a catapult to wipe out an enemy blockade or shooting beams that get blown into unsuspecting soldiers adds a new layer to the familiar formula. New weapons like a buzz saw launcher continues to show positive steps forward, all while the co-op campaign, impressive visuals and realistic weather effects round out what’s looking like a game worthy of the hype. It doesn’t help when you’re greeted by old man Marcus Fenix after a job well done either!

Well, that’s Gears of War 4! And I have to say, what we’ve seen so far looks very promising. What do you think about the Xbox Play Anywhere program, and is the next Gears game on your radar as the October 11 release date draws closer? Comment below and share your thoughts, and be sure to check back throughout the week for our hands-on impressions of the game.

When tuning in to Ubisoft’s E3 2016 press conference, the last thing I was expecting to wow me was a VR game about the eagles of Paris. Yet, that’s exactly what happened when the company announced Eagle Flight, a VR exclusive dog fighting (?) game where you play as one of four eagles who are competing for territory during a time where humans have long become extinct.

Taking advantage of the unique perspective provided by VR platforms, Eagle Flight promises intuitive gameplay that will have you soaring through the skies and between obstacles with ease. By putting a unique spin on typical multiplayer modes like Capture the Flag and replacing it with being the first to sink your claws into a rabbit, the lighthearted premise is only topped by the absurdity of the whole thing. Because when these eagles need to gain an advantage over their opponents, they can turn the tide by shooting anyone in front of them with fireballs. Wait, they can do that? Maybe we’re on the right track by driving them to near extinction before they become advanced enough to kill us all.

I’m kidding, but what’s not a joke is how fun this game looks. Watch the trailer below and see for yourself, then check back with us throughout E3 week for our full hands on impressions once we’re able to check it out for ourselves.

When Matt Stone and Trey Parker took the stage during Ubisoft’s E3 2016 press conference, we knew that meant  more details on the upcoming follow up to 2013’s South Park: The Stick of Truth, couldn’t be far. Alongside the announcement of a December 6 release date, the debuting trailer shows how much the game has changed in the past year.

Much like the South Park TV show, it’s clear that the upcoming Ubisoft RPG, The Fractured But Whole, had its story thrown together in a few weeks based on its latest trailer. As anyone who watches the show can tell you, that’s far from a bad thing since the results are often hilarious. But seeing how the conflict in this trailer has not only completely changed from last year’s reveal, but how the town has now includes locations and references from its most recent season, such as SoDoSoPa and the returning PC Principal, (who Cartman apparently has locked up in a storage unit,) it’s clear that most of these revisions have to be recent. A quick look at the trailer shows how the town will have gone through quite a few changes since the last time we visited it, setting a perfect stage for the boy’s own super hero civil war.

Spoofing Marvel and DC’s multi-film universes, the kids of South Park split off into two factions as their super hero personas after they can’t come to an agreement on how they will release their own film universe. From here, all hell breaks loose, which is clear from the footage of the boys fighting each other, Kyle siding with Cartman, your characters fighting with a drunk Randy, and other lunacy that we’ve come to expect from the quiet mountain town.

The game play is also getting an overhaul to match the town, which was detailed in the game play segment of the presentation. Instead of a strict turn based battle system, The Fractured But Whole uses a grid based movement system somewhat reminiscent of the Mega Man Battle Network series. Attacks can move enemies from one space to another, resulting in extra damage when they’re pushed into cars or tables for example, while elements like summoning popular characters for one off attacks, special abilities for each hero and unique classes make their return. All in all, this more involved battle system makes the game look like an interactive episode even more so than before.

Even better news for digital purchasers, is that for those who digitally pre-order the game, they’ll get a free download for PS4, Xbox One or PC versions of The Stick of Truth right now! So if you missed out on it the first time or just want to play it again, it’s a pretty strong incentive. Physical copies will also include vouchers for the game at select retailers on a future date.

With new characters, locations and powers, including the ultimate reveal of PC Principal, my excitement is through the roof for The Fractured But Whole. That December release date also means it won’t be delayed for four years this time either! Watch the trailer below and share your highlights with us, but make sure you check your privilege before you do.

We’ve known about Tekken 7 for over a year now, but we still weren’t sure if it was going to release on platforms outside of the Playstation 4. That uncertainty was squashed during Microsoft’s E3 press conference as the next King of Iron Fist Tournament was confirmed for both Xbox One and PC with an extra surprise in the form of its story mode.

More surprising than the story mode itself, was the reveal that Akuma from Street Fighter would be part of it. Not relegated to a simple guest character, series bad guy, Heihachi, is confronted by Capcom’s demon as they brawl within a temple that’s burning to the ground. Not only is the special care taken to get Akuma authentically represented instantly apparent thanks to his fireballs, EX meters, and Raging Demon  finisher, but the story fight in itself was looked incredible. Integrating QTE’s into the middle of a match is another interesting design choice, which will ideally bring a level of excitement to help the narrative stand out from your standard one on one bout.

Alongside this announcement, franchise producer, Katsuhiro Harada, took the stage to announce that Tekken Tag Tournament 2 would be available for free as a backwards compatible Xbox 360 title all week for Xbox Live Gold members. Featuring the largest roster in Tekken history, the 2012 game is the perfect way for Xbox owners to get caught up ahead of the seventh game’s early 2017 release.

If nothing else, this trailer and reveal is a reminder of what could have been if Tekken X Street Fighter was ever released. How do you think this story mode will pan out, and how hard are you refreshing the Xbox Live Marketplace to claim your game? Share your thoughts, (and GamerTag,) below so we can get some games going!

Dampening the surprise a little bit thanks to a previous announcement, most of us knew Halo Wars 2 was on its way. What we didn’t know was that we would get a chance to play it a lot sooner than we thought.

Starting today through June 20, Xbox One gamers will be able to participate in a Halo Wars 2 beta, giving them limited access to the game’s core features about eight months prior to its February 21 release date. The team at 343 Industries did a great job of hooking us right before the big announcement, since the teaser trailer, (which can be viewed below,) did a great job of introducing its new characters while setting the stage for such a massive conflict.

For those who are unfamiliar, Halo Wars was an attempt to bring Real Time Strategy games that have been popularized on the PC to consoles, featuring the popular characters and units from the main Halo franchise. Receiving a certain level of acclaim in its own right, it wasn’t enough to keep Ensemble Studios, the talented team behind the popular Age of Empires franchise, from being shut down. Because of this, many thought we would never see a Halo Wars sequel until 343 and Creative Assembly took the reigns.

After what we’ve seen so far, let’s just say we’re happy that this revival is happening. Eventual Xbox Play Anywhere support will allow cross play and cross save support between console and Windows 10, allowing us to keep the fight alive no matter where we are. What say you, gamer? What are your thoughts on Halo Wars 2, and will you be online this week throughout the game’s beta period? Sound off below!

During Microsoft’s E3 press conference, the company announced that Forza Horizon 3, the third game in the open world arcade style spinoff of the Xbox’s premiere racing simulator, will be releasing on September 27. With such a quick turnaround between sequels, one would assume that the next game would have minimal improvements as it was rushed out the gate. After watching the trailer, we came away feeling like that’s far from the case.

As my favorite racing game in years, Forza Horizon 2 set a high bar for modern racing games, with a level of exploration and creativity that’s rarely seen in the genre. The third game looks to take it to even greater heights, taking place in a city with a variety of terrains. Of course, more terrains means more vehicles, which is why offroad vehicles and buggies will make their debut as racers zigzag through forests and deserts for racing supremacy. If you want to share the road with your friends, Horizon 3 will also allow four player drop in drop out co-op, which will be cross compatible between Xbox One and Windows 10. Now you have no excuse to take on the streets alone.

But talking about it isn’t enough, because Horizon 3 needs to be seen to fully appreciate how gorgeous it looks. Does this look like something you’re willing to pick up come September? Share your thoughts with us below, and keep checking back for all of the news coming out of Microsoft’s conference.
