Still only logs from the rumormill, Christopher Nolan was supposedly recently approached by Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G .Wilson to direct the next film.

Skyfall director Sam Mendes recently turned down the job of directing the next film in the Bond series, and it has left the leaders of James Bond Films scrambling for the next director. This is all still speculation as Nolan has a lot on his plate with the pre-production of his next film Interstellar. Sam Mendes has said that 12 -18 months of pre production would be needed for Bond 24.

I personally think this would be a great choice. I still firmly believe that James Bond is the GREATEST superhero of all time, think I’m wrong? He is literally Batman without the leather fetish. Both are masters of martial arts, smart as a whip, great with the ladies and has a shit ton of gadgets at his fingertips. They are also both orphans and have both been raised by geriatric mentors. So getting the best Batman director to direct the next Bond film makes perfect sense.

More info as it comes out.

I guess I’m not ENTIRELY surprised about this. Angry Birds and all it’s hubbub is like the modern day PacMan Fever. Sure some will say that the over producization ( Add THAT to your Funk & Wagnall dictionary) of Angry Birds is SLIGHTLY over zealous, and you can walk into any WalMart and find anything from shirts and hats to candy and toys. Well now the crazy popular mobile game is going to hit the big screen. Check out the EXPANSIVE Press Release below.

Sony Pictures Entertainment has won the exclusive worldwide distribution rights to the eagerly anticipated Angry Birds animated film, making it one of the most high-profile deals of the year. The 3D film is being developed, produced, and financed by Rovio Entertainment and will be released worldwide by Sony Pictures on July 1, 2016. Several major studios pursued the global film rights in recent weeks, with Sony Pictures Entertainment emerging as the winner.

Michael Lynton, Chairman & CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment, Amy Pascal, Co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Mikael Hed, CEO of Rovio Entertainment jointly announced their partnership today. John Cohen and David Maisel – producer of Despicable Me and executive producer of Iron Man, respectively – are both on board for the new Angry Birds feature film. Cohen will serve as producer and Maisel is executive producer.

Commenting on the announcement, Mikael Hed said, “Sony impressed us with their great attitude, determination, and professionalism. They convinced us that we have found the right partners and team to help us market and distribute our first motion picture. Michael, Amy, Jeff Blake, Sony’s marketing and distribution head, and their teams will be the best possible collaborators as we get set to take our franchise to the next level.”

Lynton and Pascal said, “Every studio in town would love to add Angry Birds to their slate. There are few titles out there that bring this kind of excitement, brand awareness and built-in audience to the table. We’re thrilled to be distributing this film and we hope this is just the beginning of what will be a long relationship with Rovio as we look for ways to work on future projects together.”

David Maisel and John Cohen said, “We are very excited to join with Sony Pictures in presenting this movie to the world in 2016 and we will have many more announcements as we begin production in the coming months.”

Angry Birds is one of the world’s biggest entertainment franchises, starting in 2009 with the original mobile game that remains the number one paid app of all time. Angry Birds has expanded rapidly into entertainment, publishing, and licensing to become a beloved international brand.

Angry Birds has been praised for its great value and simple, casual gameplay. Players use a slingshot to launch birds at green pigs in an attempt to get their eggs back, with the game setting the model for what is possible in terms of game development and commercial success. To date, the Angry Birds and Bad Piggies games have been downloaded more than 1.7 billion times across platforms and versions.

The upcoming movie marks Rovio Entertainment’s first foray into feature films, although fans have already been introduced to the Angry Birds world with the weekly Angry Birds Toons animated series. Rovio launched the series in March through its Angry Birds apps as well as on select video-on-demand channel providers, Smart TVs, connected devices, and on select TV networks around the world. Paving the way for a full-length feature film, Angry Birds Toons has been a massive success for Rovio clocking in over 150 million views from the Angry Birds apps alone within the first six weeks.

While known for distributing world renowned motion picture franchises such as Spider-Man, Sony Pictures has been building a strong reputation in contemporary animation through its house production unit, Sony Pictures Animation, and hit films including Hotel Transylvania, The Smurfs, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Surf’s Up, Open Season, and Aardman’s Arthur Christmas and The Pirates! Band of Misfits.

I don’t know what to think just yet. Obviously this movie wasn’t meant for ME and is going to be a goofy kids movie, but I watch god damned Ponies so who am I to decide.

Valve is a company that likes to take risks and innovates in ways other companies don’t. Their inventory and item crafting system for Team Fortress 2 changed how the community interacted. Now it appears that they are doing it again. This time with, trading cards? We got a Press Release from Valve today and it reads:

May 15, 2013 — Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Counter-StrikeHalf-Life, Left 4 Dead, Portal, and Team Fortress) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced Steam Trading Cards, a new service that rewards gamers for gaming on Steam.

Released in beta today, Steam Trading Cards allows customers to earn Steam rewards for playing the games they love. Those who participate will receive game-specific trading cards that can be collected to earn rewards such as game badges, profile backgrounds, emoticons, coupons, and more.

The group of titles participating in the Steam Trading Cards beta includes Don’t Starve, Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Team Fortress 2, Portal 2 and Half-Life 2. The service will expand over the coming months to include many more titles on Steam.

Some of the available cards for CS: GO
Some of the available cards for CS: GO

They seem like they are taking what they did with TF2 and bringing it to the entire system. Some of the cards can be obtained just by playing the game while some need to be collected through other means.

The biggest feature that this is bringing is the Badge Crafting. Players can take certain cards they’ve collected and craft them into badges. Badges give the player experience points that level up their Steam Profile. This gives them on gameplay bonuses like avatars, emoticons for chat and more friend slots. The big feature you can get are random rewards. These can range from profile showcases for certain games, background image wallpapers all the way up to free DLC and discount coupons.

For more information on the new cards or to sign up for the beta head on over to the official trading card page.

Just in from our friends over at IndieWire. Today at a press event Robert Rodriguez and Univision Communications announced that they will be teaming up to produce a brand new Television Network.

The English language El-Rey will be geared toward young adults with programming focused on pretty much everything, from unscripted and sports all the way to dramas and animations. Rodriguez was quoted as saying:

I’m thrilled to be partnering with Univision on this groundbreaking initiative to deliver high-quality original programming to our community and the wider, mainstream audiences, El Rey Network will serve as a launching pad to satisfy the tastes of young adults looking for exciting, cinematic, action-packed content. As a broadcast leader in media, Univision is the best partner to support us in achieving this vision.

But that is all boring news compared to what kind of scripted series are planned. Rodriguez announced that he will be adapting the 1996 film ” From Dusk Til Dawn” as a series. He will be writing and directing and plans on expanding the lore of the film. He has also brought on board Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Star Trek) to produce an action adventure series for the network. Both shows will be filmed in Austin at Rodriguez’s headquarters.

So keep an eye out on the TV Program Guides this December for El-Rey

The team that brought us the hilarious Reno 911 is working on a new film. A horror comedy about an expecting couple that get themselves in a hellish situation.

Not too long ago rumors started spreading of a new offshoot of HUB’s My Little Pony: Friendship of Magic. Titled Equestria Girls, the leaks and rumors all had the same thing to say. Humanized ponies, in High School. When I saw the first screenshots I was a little bemused by Hasbros choice of direction. Well now we have official word in the form of a trailer. Check out “Equestria Girls”.

Coming out in theaters June 16th, Equestria Girls looks as if it is a MAJOR departure from the show. I must reserve judgement until I see it, but frankly this has ZERO appeal to me. Granted I am not the designated target market for this kind of film, but I was also not the target market for the show and I freaking love that! I just find it kind of… dis-empowering that after destroying evil a billion times, the most difficult thing Twilight Sparkle is going to face is being Prom Queen.

Ubisoft’s next slam dunk title, Watch Dogs, is looking better and better every day. Set in the near future, players take the role of  Aiden Pearce, a man who was done dirty and is getting revenge on the people that did it. The major gameplay mechanic in Watch Dogs is being able to hack into the city’s electronic surveillance systems and utilities.

So, if you weren’t sold already, here are six minutes of gameplay footy to help you decide whether or not to pick Watch Dogs up!

Just hitting Steam Greenlight today The Forest has got some great vibes already. Check out the trailer and more info below.

Just filed last Friday in a California District Court is this juicy little lawsuit. In it, G.I. Joe writers David Elliot and Paul Lovett, are asking, NAY DEMANDING $23 MILLION be paid in damages for creative theft and copyright infringement.

In the complaint, the plaintiffs claim the story of G.I. Joe Retaliation was similar in every material way. The two where hired to write the first Joe film in 2009, but were passed over for the sequel. When retaliation was released, Elliot and Lovett were PISSSED! ( That’s 3 S’s mad. Like a cobra).

I say give the charges a read, the legal description of a “Reboot” is worth it enough. It appears that they are going after EVERYONE, including our friends over at Hasbro. As Geekscape’s Law & Order expert, we will most likely see this settled out of court.

More info as it comes out.

Just announced from EA’s financial reporting. The video game publisher has just signed and exclusivity contract with Disney to develop and publish any new games set in the Star Wars universe. From the Press Release:

“This agreement demonstrates our commitment to creating quality game experiences that drive the popularity of the Star Wars franchise for years to come,” said John Pleasants, Co-President of Disney Interactive. “Collaborating with one of the world’s premier game developers will allow us to bring an amazing portfolio of new Star Wars titles to our fans around the world.”

“Every developer dreams of creating games for the Star Wars universe,” said EA Labels President Frank Gibeau. “Three of our top studios will fulfill that dream, crafting epic adventures for Star Wars fans. DICE and Visceral will produce new games, joining the BioWare team which continues to develop for the Star Wars franchise. The new experiences we create may borrow from films, but the games will be entirely original with all new stories and gameplay.”

What does this mean for gamers? Can we hope/pray that the recently leaked Battlefront III footage may mean someone at EA is ready to finish the game?

Borderlands 2 writer Anthony Burch made a little mistake on Twitter. He snapped a pic of sleeping head of VP, Steve Gibson. What he didn’t realize is that a giant banner for the next DLC was in the background.

Bae Caught me slippin!
Bae Caught me slippin!

What does this mean for you, the consumer? Well it is most likely the last episode of their season pass of DLC. We can expect the tease we got a month ago was for this. Assault on Dragons Keep looks like it may be a blast!

No release date or official word from Gearbox has been issued. The tweet was removed rather quick, but as Scarlett Johansson can attest to, once online its permanent.

IT MUST BE CHRISTMAS IN APRIL!  Rockstar Games has just put out this rad new set of trailers for the upcoming GTA 5! I’d like you to meet Michael. Franklin and Trevor.

The three different styles and tones from each of these videos has me pumped in so many different ways. Looks like we can be Tony Soprano, Ice Cube and a fucked up Walter White. You can get your hands on GTA 5 this September!

Just confirmed by numerous sources, Microsoft will be announcing their newest Xbox iteration next month.

The event comes on the heels of countless leaks and rumors of the fabled “Xbox 720”. We can report a new log out of the Rumor Mill. The console may be titled “Xbox Infinity”. Someone from Reddit is claiming to have leaked information from the Xboxevent.com signup page.

Xbox Infinity

We cannot confirm this as of yet. If you would like to check out the press event, you can head on over to the Xbox Event page come May 21st and watch the live stream!

If you CAN’T watch, then be sure to check out our live blog of the event!

Mere hours ago we talked about the official announcement for the newest game from Bethesda and the creator of Resident Evil, Shinji Mikami’s. Code named Zwei, it was supposed to be Shinji Mikami’s return to classic survival horror.

Well, just now, like just NOW, we got an official title and teaser trailer. Check out The Evil Within.

Still no word on release date, or platforms.

Just announced not that long ago, Nintendo has announced that they will be releasing a new Legend of Zelda game for the 3DS, and it is set in the ” Link To The Past” universe! Is it a sequel? A prequel? OR A prequel to the sequel? We do not know, hell it doesn’t even have an English title yet! What we do know is that there is some sick in-game footy just sneaked out by Games Radar. CHECK IT OUT!

My favorite top down Zelda game was Link’s Awakening DX, and this bit of footage has made me SUPER excited for this!

What is this?! A BOX?! Psy isn’t the only thing to come out of Korea recently.  A Korean game ratings board website has posted a new stack of games. One of them is something called Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection for PS3. Couple that with the recently Tweeted pic from Hideo, we can rumormill  that this is most probably true.

Metal Gear Solid Legacy

From this image we can surmise that the collection will have MGS 1, 2, 3, 4 AND Peace Walker. AGAIN, nothing is confirmed as this is still in the rumor mill, but the Korean Gaming site was also the one that broke the news for Resident Evil Revelations.

You can be sure that as soon as more info is released we will tell you about it!

So the rumors have been quelled. Earlier this week Bethesda tweeted this “Mysterious” trailer for their next game. What trailer? THIS!

When I first saw it I thought they were making a new Nine Inch Nails video. Well as of not too long ago it was officially announced over at Tango Gameworks Site what them and Bethesda are doing! From their site:

Our latest project’s codename is “Zwei” and it is a survival horror game.
The above image ( The banner image for this article) is a collage of different environments we put together for this announcement and is intended to give a feel for the tone and the direction the production is taking. (However, neither the code name nor the image is intended to tell you exactly what is in the game.)

As a master of the ‘survival horror’ genre, Shinji Mikami is committed to making a game that is the realization of pure survival horror, an experience which he defines as one that pushes the limits of fear and exhilaration. He and his team at Tango are committed to attaining this vision.

Shinji Mikami, if you don’t know, is the man who created Resident Evil. He invented modern survival horror.

The game is being developed by Tango Gameworks and is going to be published by Bethesda… so there’s that. No info about release, or platforms have been announced. Just…be excited.

I do not think I have been this excited for an album to drop since the Aquabats! Debuting at Coachella and SNL last night this is another teaser for ‘Get Lucky’ from the album Random Access Memories.

You can get your hands on Random Access Memories May 21st!

This trailer… I have…no words. I cannot believe Ubisoft has made such an incredibly absurd game. Just watch this trailer for Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.

This trailer this so freaking 80’s I should be wearing leg warmers and spandex!

You can get your hands on this next level standalone game May 1st on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3!

The sequel to the crazy popular hyper difficult dungeon crawler, Dark Souls, is finally getting some details released. Set for a 2014 release date, we got TWO, count’em TWO videos to show you. One is some gameplay footy from the game itself and the other is a dev interview.  Watch with me!

Developer Interview

Now that we got those into your eye holes, peak at these just released screenshots! They look a tad stylized, so who knows what the final product will look like.

A couple of weeks ago over on the Battlefield 3 subreddit, user Radarbeamer posted a depressing picture. An empty Bad Company 2: Vietnam server. The game that made him fall in love with the series.

Battlefield Vietnam

Now the game is only just two years old, and the entire community has vanished. Well a few guys over at the same subreddit have put together a Rejuvenation Weekend of sorts. Starting Friday the 19th and going until Monday morning, they are asking all fans of the mod to flood the servers on their respective platform and play the game!

If you’ve gotten this far and are asking “What the hell is this all about?” well let me bring you up to speed. Battlefield: Vietnam was the second game in the series, and it came out in 2004. It was one of the first games to take players into the Vietnam war, and is probably still one of the best. The guns, the vehicles and even the music was there. Players had the ability to turn on radios in the vehicles and cycle through period music. The best song had to be Flight of the Valkyries. Loading up a Huey and charging a beach, Apocalypse Now style was epic.

So come Winter 2010 and players of the wildly popular Bad Company 2 were greeted with a joyous announcement. DICE was releasing a Vietnam add on! New maps, new weapons and the same gritty environment from the past! It was awesome! I myself, consider Bad Company 2: Vietnam one of the best games in the series, if not THE best. That’s right, even beating out Battlefield 3. My favorite gaming moment was on Cao Son Temple. Playing as the US army, we had to push up from a small river village, past a temple and into Vietcong controlled docks. I was playing as a medic. The battle was so intense that I only fired my weapon once, and I missed! I racked up a total of 0 kills and 65 deaths. I got MVP of the game for my revive and healing skills.

So if you love awesome games then this is a no brainer! You can get Bad Company 2 on STEAM HERE! Grab the Vietnam Expansion HERE! Keep an eye out for the midweek madness, as Bad Company 2 was just on sale for $3!

So, saddle up and prepare for battle! See you on Steam!

I weep. I…weep (as does Jonathan, he’s quite literally inconsolable right now). In a move that can only be called, shocking, Disney is shutting down loved video game developer Lucas Arts. Confirmed this morning, the guys at Game Informer have just put validation to the rumor from late last night. The quote from Disney on the manner is cold and dark like Vaders robot shoulders

After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games. As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.

I guess it makes sense, from a business point of view. The company hasn’t put out that many AAA titles in recent years, and games such as Forced Unleashed 2 have had only average responses from critics. It appears though that Lucas Arts will exist in name only as it moves forward.

It is good to note that the stunning looking Star Wars 1313 will most likely still be released, though third party partners are being looked at to help the game get finished.

Some of my favorite games have come from the company. Our fearless leaders all time favorite, Monkey Island, is one of their most known titles, changed the way developers created adventure games and how writers approached humor in games.

We at Geekscape send our sincerest condolences to the employees that have been laid off, and hope that their future endeavors be as memorable as Lucas Arts.

What are your thoughts on the closure of Lucas Arts? What have been some of your favorite games from the company? Let us know!

Yesterday was a day of fools, with countless internet pranks and viral marketings. Valve announced Half-Life 3 and Reddit bought Team Fortress 2. So you can understand my, caution, when I saw that the trailer for Thief 4 had leaked. Well, turns out it is legitimate and some of the devs are slightly pissed. Take a watch with me!

After this trailer leaked, the guys over at Eidos scrambled and put it up officially on their website.

The Thief series of games puts players in a 18th or 19th century steampunk world, as a master thief (hard to believe, a game called thief where you play a thief!). Thief 2 is known as one of the greatest stealth games of all time.

No official release date or anything else besides this fancy trailer have been announced. You know that when more information does come out, we will be sure to keep you up to date!

Just announced earlier today, Netflix is already planning their next original series. Titled “Sense8”, it will have the creative powers of the Wachoswki’s and J. Michael Straczynski. We have the full PR Release below!

Only On Netflix: Sci-Fi Giants The Wachowskis And J. Michael Straczynski Team-Up To Create “Sense8”

Coming in 2014 from Georgeville Television, a new science-fiction thriller from the acclaimed directors of Cloud Atlas and The Matrix Trilogy and the creator of Babylon 5

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., March 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Netflix will bring Georgeville Television’s Sense8, a gripping global tale of minds linked and souls hunted, exclusively to its members to watch instantly in late 2014.

The 10 episode season one of Sense8 marks the first foray into television by the Wachowskis, the creative geniuses behind Bound, The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolutions, V for Vendetta, Speed Racer and Cloud Atlas, and is the latest project from veteran show runner J. Michael Straczynski, creator of the Hugo Award-winning Babylon 5 TV series and whose film credits include Changeling, Thor and Underworld Awakening,

“Andy and Lana Wachowski and Joe Straczynski are among the most imaginative writers and gifted visual storytellers of our time,” said Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos. “Their incredible creations are favorites of Netflix members globally and we can’t wait to bring Sense8 to life.”

“We’re excited to work with Netflix and Georgeville Television on this project, and we’ve wanted to work with Joe Straczynski for years, chiefly due to the fact his name is harder to pronounce than ours, but also because we share a love of genre and all things nerdy,” said Andy and Lana Wachowski. “Several years ago, we had a late night conversation about the ways technology simultaneously unites and divides us, and out of that paradox Sense8 was born.”

“We are proud to be working with Netflix on this new series,” said Straczynski. “Lana, Andy, and I are fans of each other’s creations, and have been looking for something to do together for nearly a decade.”

Sense8 is being produced by Georgeville Television, in association with Studio JMS. Georgeville Television is a Reliance Entertainment company and independent television studio, formed by veteran film and television producer Marc Rosen, in partnership by Motion Picture Capital’s Leon Clarance and Producer Deepak Nayar. Formed in 2012, Georgeville Television currently has two series in pre-production, including NBC’s Crossbones starring John Malkovich. Rosen, Clarance, and Nayar will serve as executive producers on Sense8.

Studio JMS, launched last year by Straczynski and CEO Patricia Tallman, was founded to produce a wide range of film, television, comics and other media properties. In addition to The Flickering Light, Straczynski’s feature directorial debut, and Sense8, Studio JMS has created a new comics imprint, Joe’s Comics, published in partnership with Image Comics. Its first series, “Ten Grand,” will debut in May. In addition to Sense8, Motion Picture Capital is producing The Flickering Light, which begins filming in Berlin later this year.

“Sense8 is a dream-come-true creatively, and we look forward to working closely with our new partners at Netflix, with whom we could not be more excited to bring the Wachowski’s first TV series ever to life,” said Rosen.

The Wachowskis are starting production next month on their new sci-fi adventure Jupiter Ascending for Warner Brothers, starring Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis.

“We’re delighted to once again partner with Joe, and have the opportunity to work with Lana and Andy, two of our movie-making heroes, on their television debut,” said Clarance. “They have created a brilliant concept, which will be a wonderful story to produce, and a rich conceptual world for viewers to experience.”

I am already giggling with enjoyment. The Wachowski’s are two of my most favorite creative minds out there. I’ve never been a “fan” of Babylon 5, but I respect it for what it is.

House of Cards is a Juggernaut right now, and I believe Netflix is going down the right path. Is Netflix the next “Big Time Network”? Personally, I think so!

Way back in December we showed you the trailer for a mysterious upcoming new game titled Phantom Pain. We, and pretty much the entire internet, speculated that this was actually the next game in the Metal Gear franchise. Well…we were right! Check out the trailer for Metal Gear Solid 5!

As always I’m left impressed. No release date or anything else has been posted, but we can expect this to ship out on the PS4 at least.

I just took a break from the AMAZING Bioshock Infinite to post this mind blowing news. We got some official, gameplay footy from the next in the Battlefield franchise. Check out these 17 minutes of glory! OH MY GOD ENJOY!!!

OH MY GOD! I am so stoked it is hard to describe with words! Watch that video again, watch it again!

It looks like the rumors of this game coming out this Fall are correct. The new Frosbite 3 engine looks AMAZING! The hyper accurate destruction, facial animations and sound are all obvious step ups from the previous game. The command features are very Brothers In Arms, but are along the lines of what the rumored features of the Commander feature.

This entire announcement corroborates the leaked information from EB Games outlets. There is not much else to say except WATCH THAT VIDEO AGAIN!

No official console announcement has been made as of yet, but it is expected to see BF4 on PS3, PS4, XBOX360 and PC this fall! and possibly on the Xbox 720 and the WiiU. This game is going to be HUGE and is one of those titles that makes you go out and buy a new graphics card!
