This news almost slid under the radar. The best selling childrens novel series, Artemis Fowl is going to be brought to the big screen!

Artemis Fowl is about a 12-year-old Artemis who is a millionaire, a genius – and above all, a criminal mastermind. But Artemis doesn’t know what he’s taken on when he kidnaps a fairy (Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon Unit) to harness her magic to save his family. These aren’t the fairies of the bedtime stories – they’re dangerous.

In the official release from Walt Disney Films, Producer Harvey Weinstein said

If you would have told me five years ago I would be producing a project with Disney I would have thought you were crazy! I feel as though everything is coming full circle considering Bob De Niro and Jane Rosenthal brought me this book while I was still at Miramax and within hours I told them I wanted the rights to the film. I am thrilled to be reunited with Alan Horn who I worked with while he was at Warner Bros. and we had tremendous success with ‘The Aviator,’ ‘Starsky and Hutch’ and ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.’ It is also exciting to partner with friends Alan Bergman, Sean Bailey and of course Bob Iger who has been incredibly generous to me over the years. This is a special project for me because my children absolutely love this book. This story is for everyone and there is no one better than Disney to make a film that will excite people young and old.

Not much else was announced, Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal have also been announced as Executive producers with Michael Goldenberg ( Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix, Green Lantern) is set to do the screenplay.

Earlier this year we talked about the hilarious new dark comedy Bad Milo. The film centers around a man who has been living with intense stomach pains. Turns out he actually has a demon living inside of him that he must learn to control.

Well now our friends over at Bloody Disgusting have released the poster for this crazy film.

Catch Bad Milo on VOD August 29th and in theaters October 4th!

The biggest prescence at SDCC this year was undoubtedly Ubisoft Games. They pulled out all the stops this year in promotion of their three newest games. AC:IV Black Flag, Watch Dogs and Splinter Cell: Blacklist. Their method of promotion was crazy over the top and probably the best thing I have ever done at Comic Con. They hosted a party, on a pirate ship.

Friday night of the convention, I wandered down to the 5th street marina, behind the convention center. When I got there I was shocked to see the setup Ubisoft had (though a few nights before I was informed we already checked it out, but I do not remember!) on the floating museum The Star of India. Custom liveries, an awesome Assassin’s Sail and some 3D projection on the sails. They went ALL out.

I got to the event early, and was waiting for our fellow writer Jake Lopez to arrive. I checked in with the nice gals at the press desk and wandered around. Soon the press line setup in preparation for some AAA+++ level celebs. That is when I ran into an old Con friend, Kristen! It was a HUGE case of small world syndrome. We caught up and she started getting ready to run the press line. When 9:45 came around they started off the festivities, LITERALLY with a bang.

I was less than 100 feet from the cannons and my whole body felt the blasts. As soon as they went off I knew tonight was going to be insane. I contemplated waiting for Jake and Kristen, but the temptation of free booze and food was too much to handle. I jumped on board and was blown away AGAIN! The whole ship was done up with lights and AC4 paraphernalia. On the stern Schick was giving away free straight razor shaves. A pirate told me I needed one but if I lost the beard I’d look like a 12 year old. I grabbed a rum and coke (argh!) and went to the bow. On the way I partook in some next level sammiches. Real talk, this was the best catered food from the entire trip. I put on my best Jack Sparrow swag and hit the Bow. The first game of the night was Just Dance 14. Some Ubi Team members were playing and tearing it apart. The graphics for this game have always impressed me, and the music is always the catchy pop you expect from the radio.

Not physically capable of dancing, I left the bow and went down a level. Below deck was HOT, with all the lights and the people it was only getting hotter. I wandered around, gawking at all the AC4 props and posters. Pirate pictures were being taken at the back, while more game demos were at the front. I got another rum and coke and hit up the games. This was when Jake texted me and said that they weren’t letting anymore people on the ship! Fearing I would have no friends on board and would need to rely on my own social faculties I crushed my rum and grabbed a beer. I went down another level and continued to be blown away. They had a giant projector playing AC4 trailers and a mofuggin DJ! At the bottom level looking up through the hold at the sky, my thoughts that this was going to be a crazy night were just reinforced.

I grabbed a vodka this time from what felt like the eighth bar I passed on the ship and went back upstairs. My journalistic duties had to be met, time to play some games. I went upstairs and posted up behind the Splinter Cell station. That is when I ran into Jake! He informed me of the details of the screw up outside, basically no one was counting how many people were coming on. We both then jumped on the two stations to play. I was playing an introductory level while he played something more into the story. Both were on the 360 and I felt what I was playing was a 99% completed game. The controls were much tighter than previous SC games and the narrative was playing out nicely. Shooting felt fluid and didn’t carry a penalty. There were times when Batman level discretion worked and times where Matrix level shootouts worked. All and all I was very impressed with this iteration.

AC4 SDCC Party (22)
Jake108 Demoing Splintercell

Next up was some AC4 multiplayer, but not after MORE Vodka! We got in line behind some actors who were dressed as Multiplayer characters, playing as themselves. Could that be considered masturbation? At this time I noticed a reoccurring actor. They had a fully decked out Kenway assassin walking around, being filmed. Doing some crowd hiding and various other AC moves. I am pretty sure my confused face will be in the background of some promo footage. At this time it was my turn at the multiplayer. The Ubisoft guy running the station told me the rules, we were playing pistols only and told me the controls. Then I realized that I was up against a couple of celebrities that I did not recognize.  It was time to crush some 1%.

AC4 SDCC Party (21)

Not much has changed since AC3. The same kind of maps and gimmicks  were present. That’s not to say it’s a BAD thing. It was a joy to play. The pistols only mode made for a nice new difficulty twist. You had to present yourself to your target. This gave them the opportunity to guard the shot or flee. This ALSO gave your pursuer a chance to line up his shot on you. There were some cheap moments where I was killed with no real feedback as to what I did wrong, no indication of enemy or kill cam happened a few times. I don’t know if it was all random or just glitches. When it was all said and done I finished third, behind another journalist and an Ubisoft employee. We were playing with PS4 controllers but it was running on a PS4 dev PC. I snapped some pics while they were changing the gametype but they came out awful.

AC4 SDCC Party (24)

After that I got another drink and tried to get in on some Watch Dogs. What I got to watch was the last play of the night unfortunately. The game looked GORGEOUS and it was playing at a smooth as silk frame rate. They had a LAN VOIP setup and a Ubi rep was walking players through the mission. I really wish I was able to get a chance to play, but just as I was ready to sit down they closed it off for the night.

I met back up with Jake as he just finished up a round of AC4. We parted ways from there, he going back to his hotel and I went back to the bar.  The DJ started to kick it into high gear, some great EDM started filling my ear holes. The heat of the ship was getting to me so I jaunted upstairs. Just in time to see a Woman in some VERY high heels lose her shit and fall down the stairs. She caught herself just before disaster. Boat stairs and fashion DO NOT MIX!

Back up top I saw the place was packed. The Hollywood elite were there and I barely recognized any of them. I then ran into Kristen again and her friend whose name escapes me. We were in line to get our final drinks of the night before the bars closed when I felt a tap on my shoulder and a whisper in my ear.

Spring Break

AC4 SDCC Party (35)

The sultry voice poured the motto of our vacation into my brain. I turned around and it was our boy Derek! He made it onto the ship after all! His expression was priceless, his ability to comprehend the moment was gone. I had to bring him back to reality and tell him that yes, we were on a mother fucking pirate ship. We crushed the drinks and hit the dance floor. The four of us doing our best White person dance moves crammed in the bottom of the shipped danced til a few minutes before closing. W e decided to leave it there and head home. As we were leaving I caught Kenway assassinating a sexy pirate girl, though I couldn’t figure out why. There was no way she had ANY hidden blades on her.

Be sure to click on these Vines for some more footy!

It’s the first official day of the best gathering of geeks all year. Derek, Juan, and I were invited up to the Konami Gaming Lounge at the Westin. We met up with Robert the ruff and grumble (and awesome) driver at noon today. Once inside the lounge, we were greeted by the team at Konami and shown the setup. We got our hands on the three games present: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, Pro Evo Soccer 2014 and the much anticipated (and just released) Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection.

Derek and I grabbed a beer and went upstairs to the MGS room, while Juan hit up Castlevania on the PS3. Metal Gear Collection certainly has all the MGS Games a fan would want: pretty much all of them. We sat down with some new friends and got the rundown. All the games but MGS 4 are on the same disk, with MGS 1 and the VR missions being PSN downloads. The collection also includes two digital graphic novels that were originally on the PSP, and have all updated with glorious motion graphics. The collection also includes an amazing 100-page art book that chronicles the history of MGS art.

Konami House (1)
Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection

After that we headed downstairs and caught up with Juan. He had been playing Castlevania and only had good things to say, so I then hopped on the PC version and played through the demo. The PC version looks a lot better than the PS3 version that was there. The edges were much sharper and it played much more smoothly. The game controls are very tight, it felt very DMC/ God of War but that isn’t a bad thing. The two set pieces we had available had awesome atmosphere and the mood was perfect.

Konami House (2)
Blurry Castlevania 2 (sorry)

The last game we got our hands on was Pro Evo Soccer 2014. The game was far from done, with a late fall anticipated release date. The graphics weren’t yet complete, but the player models were great. The game physics were extremely fluid and everything felt very real. The juggling and crossovers were intuitive and it felt as if they added a lot of depth to this year’s edition of the game. The only weird thing was that when we were playing it, the players in the background were getting into fights or getting red carded all over the place. Nothing of our doing was causing these incidents. We would suddenly be presented with a replay of a bad kick to the face that occurred on practically the opposite side of the pitch. The funniest moment was when two of my team mates did synchronous bicycle kicks into the chest of one of Derek’s team all Mortal Kombat style.

The presence Konami has  at SDCC is very strong, their upcoming lineup is fantastic and everything we played was very enjoyable. Be sure to check them out on the floor right accross from the Geekscape booth row 3900!

The crazy funny and super raunchy looking Hell Baby has been on my radar since it was first hinted about way back earlier this year. We’ve shown you the poster and the Greenband trailer before BUT NOW, we have what you all have been waiting for. The Redband trailer! And WHY NOT top it off with a new poster as well, just because I like ya!

HELL BABY, a comedy scripted by Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant (Night at The Museum, Reno 911!: Miami) marks their co-directing debut. Jack (Rob Corddry) and Vanessa (Leslie Bibb) are an expectant couple that moves into the most haunted fixer-upper in New Orleans — a house with a deadly demonic curse. Things soon spiral out of control for Jack and Vanessa, as well as their-not-so-helpful neighbor F’Resnel (Keegan-Michael Key), Vanessa’s friendly psychiatrist (Michael Ian Black), Vanessa’s Wiccan sister Marjorie (Riki Lindhome) and the detectives assigned to look into the rising body count (Rob Huebel and Paul Scheer). Only the Vatican’s elite exorcism team (Garant and Lennon) san save them — or can they?

Way back in 2003 a small Korean film called “Oldboy” was released upon the world. Based on a Japanese Manga, it follows the tale of a man who is imprisoned in a room for over a decade without knowing why or who had captured him. Upon his release he goes on the hunt for the person responsible. Called one of the greatest “revenge” films of all time, Oldboy is a legend.

Well now we have ourselves the trailer for the US remake! The remake has been in the works since 2009, with numerous directors and studios on board at different points. Even a nice little lawsuit over the rights! Well now that everything is settled and the film is in the can, Spike Lee has given us what appears to be a faithful recreation of the Korean classic. Here is the official redband trailer.

This trailer got me so incredibly excited I hurt myself. It feels as if they captured the feel of the original film almost perfectly. And did we get a peak of the infamous hammer fight scene? I think we did!

The film is set to release this October 25th and it stars Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen and Sharlto Copley.

The fifth episode of The Aquabats Super Show is airing this Saturday. This one looks like it is going to be the biggest, and craziest episode yet! It has a stack of awesome guest stars and written by Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance fame! Check out the promo for “Anti-Bats” below!

That promo has be freaking stoked! It is awesome to see the new villains The Anti-Bats! Back in the day a buddy of mine had made his own custom Anti-Bat costume, so seeing these guys made me happy!

So with all these new characters in the show we gotta have a huge list of guest stars, and it is a doozie of a guest list!

Martin Starr (Shred Center M.C.)

Noel Wells (Rachel Moonbug)

Mikey Way (Asthma Lead Singer)

Matt Gorney (Skillsawz)

Kyla Broderick (Asthma Bass Girl)

Brad Davis (Asthma Beard Man)

Derrick deVilliers (Asthma Mask Drummer)

Mark Fordham (SilverSkull)

This all could have only come from one place, the mind of Gerard Way. After he hosted the Aquabats Panel at San Diego Comic Con last I was excited to know that he had an episode planned. I think this time I am going to get up nice and early (Alaska Time sucks for TV sometimes) and watch it live instead of my DVR.

See you Saturday!

We’ve all seen our fair share of DBZ games. We’ve all seen our fair share of DBZ for that matter, but the 3D fighting games that have come out in the last few years have always been a personal guilty pleasure of mine. Some of them are much better than others, some offer complexity while some are simple as hell.

The latest iteration of the DBZ 3D fighters, Battle of Z (These names are getting bad) looks crazy. Incorporating 4 player coop in 8 player battles! Watch the trailer here!

The game is said to feature new Super Saiyan forms from the movie Battle of The Gods that came out this year.

No release date has been announced, but it has been confirmed that it will be coming to North America on the PS3, Xbox 360 and the Vita.

Last month we showed you the incredibly crazy trailer for upcoming History Horror Thriller, Frankestein’s Army. Today we can show you the official poster for the film. And GOD DAMN DOES IT LOOK AWESOME!

Frankensteins_Army_Theatrical_Poster_Hi2

Set to hit theaters and On-Demand July 26th, this movie looks crazier and crazier the more I learn about it.

In the waning days of World War II, a battalion of Russian soldiers find themselves lost in enemy territory. Stumbling upon a village decimated by an unseen terror, they discover that a mad scientist (Hellboy’s Karel Roden) conducts experiments to fuse flesh and steel, creating an unstoppable army of undead soldiers. Leaderless and faced with dissention amongst their dwindling ranks, they must find the courage to face down an altogether new menace – or die trying.

Hot off the presses and blowing up the internet is this brand new trailer for the upcoming Lego movie. Now you’re probably thinking to yourself ” A movie…. about Lego?”. Yeah I was thinking the same thing, then I watched the trailer. If you’ve ever played a Lego game, that genuine funny you feel when you play is perfectly captured in this trailer.

The Lego movie comes out February 7, 2014 and stars Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, Alison Brie, Charlie Day, Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman.

The second season of The Aquabats Super Show is in full effect! Well our friends at the HUB have got you covered with a pair of exclusive screenshots from this Saturday’s episode, ” Bad Apple ” !

This is one thing I love about this show is the creative monsters and costumes the team comes up with. These two new buggy baddies look great!

From the release:

Afterward, the awkward homecoming is interrupted when a giant worm swallows Jimmy’s mom whole and The Aquabats! must act fast to save her, on“The Aquabats! You read that right! Legendary musician Mark Mothersbaugh is guest starring in this episode! So be sure to tune in or set your DVR for Saturday!

While you’re at it check out our interview with the shows producer Jason deVilliers  and star Ricky Fitness!

This JUST IN! THIS JUST IN! After rumors of Paramount finalizing everything for a fifth Terminator movie, it has come out today that Ahhhrrnold himself will reprise his role as the cybernetic organism with living tissue over metal endoskeleton AKA The Terminator.

Fresh out of the 21st Century Financial Education Summit, Arnold was quoted as saying

In fact, I’m very happy that the studios want me to be in Terminator 5 and to star AS the Terminator, which we start shooting in January and I’m also going to do King Conan – to play that role and also to do another Twins movie. So I feel very proud of that. I feel very happy and I’m looking forward to doing those films.

Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) are working on the script, while Justin Lin was lined up to direct the film at first, but wandered off and did Fast 6 instead.

It will be interesting to see how they work his age into the film. It made sense in T-3 as he was based off an already living person (Sargent Candy). They could de-age him ALA X-Men, but I think it may get a little too uncanny valley for viewers. Also, how will the events from Salvation play into this film, as that is now technically canon.

Nothing else to report, but  you can expect a boat load come San Diego Comic Con!

Almost a week away from release, The Last of Us ad train is leaving the station. This compelling and well thought out TV commercial was done in a very clever way. Usually “Live Action” trailers are just some dude dressed as the character, this is different.

Grab your copy of The Last of Us June 14th!

Whoa whoa whoa whoa…whoa. I think I can already call E3 2013 best of show. Square Enix just blew my mind with this trailer for Murdered: Soul Suspect.

This announcement is the purest definition of Teaser. There is barely any information online about this game. What I have been able to find out is this. Murdered is an action adventure, puzzle game published by Square and developed by one of their internal studios, though which one is a mystery. It was first teased back in February where the Square official Twitter posted “What is the hardest case to solve?”. Today we got this trailer.

Lets hope we got ourselves another L.A. Noire type game on our hands.

More info from us about this during our E3 coverage. Murdered: Soul Suspect is confirmed released on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. No next gen release has been announced yet.

You can file this under wacky. Last Thursday, the LAPD responded to an alarm at a video game developer studio where they saw an armed suspect in the window. That armed suspect turned out to be a statue of Ghost from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

This all took place in LA at game developer Robotoki’s office. The story goes as follows: The company installed a new security system that had an “armed threat” panic button. When pressed the police would be notified of, well an armed threat. So come last Thursday evening, the team over at Robotoki were all going home for the night when an unnamed employee saw a mysterious new button in the office. Of course he felt the need to press it. He then promptly left the studio, and Robotiki head, Robert Bowling was left alone in the office. A little back story on our friend Robert here. He worked on CoD:MW2 and was given a statue of one of the games characters, Ghost, as a gift. This statue stands in the window of Robotoki’s office overlooking the street.

Photo Tweeted by Robert Bowling. @fourzerotwo
Photo Tweeted by Robert Bowling. @fourzerotwo

So when Police arrived they could not find a way into the building. They proceeded to circle the building and saw our friend Ghost in the window. Now peek at that statue, in todays time where the perceived threat of a crazed gunman is so high, you can imagine what the LAPD’s next move was. Gear up and storm the building! Our friends over at Polygon have this picture from the security camera.

When the police entered they apparently thought Robert was a hostage and had a standoff with Ghost. It got really tense when he did not comply, but stress was eventually lowered when they realized he wouldn’t respond to anything they said.

When it was all said and done no one was in trouble and there was no false alarm fine, the Police were actually pretty good about it and were reportedly, “Good Dudes, and all smiles.”.

I love me some hyper violence, WW2 films and a little bit of sci-fi history. So when I saw this trailer for Frankenstein’s Army I flipped out.

Frankenstein’s Army stars Karel Roden, Joshua Sasse, Robert Gwilym, Alexander Mercury, Luke Newberry, Hon Ping Tang, Andrei Zayats, Mark Stevenson and you can check it out On-Demand July 26th and in select theaters.

2011  saw the release of Payday: The Heist. A surprise hit from Overkill Software and Sony Entertainment, it puts players in the role of high profile thief’s. Missions range from your normal run of the mill bank robbery to breaking VIP’s out of jail. The game plays a lot like Left 4 Dead (There was even a L4D crossover) but with Police and SWAT instead of zombies. You can get additional points for hand cuffing bank managers and civilizations and destroying video evidence.

The game was surprisingly fun and very difficult. Waiting at key locations for drills and saws to cut through doors added a level of urgency. Recently announced from Sony was the much wanted sequel, dropping “The Heist” from the title, check out the new gameplay trailer for Payday 2

You can get your hands on Payday 2 for Steam, PSN and XBLA this August!

YEAH BUDDY! This just came across my desk and as SOON as I saw the title I knew I was stoked for it.

The first Iron Sky was a pretty ridiculous concept to begin with. Nazi’s. From the Moon. It was bad, but bad in that good kind of way. It was a super fun, crazy cool looking Sci Fi adventure. I loved every minute of it. This time around they want to go darker and more over the top.

According to their IndieGoGo Page the production of the last film was plagued with problems. From financiers jeopardizing the story to not having complete control over distribution.

This time around they want to make the film exactly the way they want to. They have some lofty goals, and the first round of Crowd Funding starts at $150k! This will secure them a script, proper budgeting, and put together a promo reel.

So if you are interested then head over to their IndieGoGo Page and help out!

While most of us are proudly celebrating the 36th anniversary of Star Wars, or about to celebrate National BBQ day, some die hard fans of the INFAMOUS Super Mario Brothers Movie were in Los Angeles at the Nuart Theater watching the film. The film’s costar John Leguizamo filmed a nice little message for fans. Take a peak after the jump.

Now I didn’t realize this was a “bad” movie when I saw it as a kid. I didn’t really get the ability to tell if a movie was bad until my 20’s, but growing up with a MARIO BROTHERS movie was awesome. Who could have thought video games could be movies?!

If you want more information on the screening check out the official unofficial fan page HERE.

Reports and rumors are coming on how the Xbox One will handle initial installs and game trading.

From what we can gather from a few initial statements from MS employees is that the Xbox One game disks will ONLY be used for initial installation of the game, and that each game will come with a unique code (Think the same kind of license key you get on PC games) that is tied to your account. A once a day account verification with will need to be done to verify that you still own the product. If you would like to transfer the game to another account, you will need to pay an additional fee to move the product code. Unconfirmed reports of the fee being in the neighborhood of 35 GBP! That is $53 is freedom cash!

Xbox’s Major Nelson has said that these reports are “vague”, but he has refused to comment on whether or not these reports are true or not.

This is a terrible terrible start for this console. The restrictions for the console: Mandatory Kinect, Once a day account authorization, And fee to transfer games make this the least desirable console for gamers. On top of that, the fee for Xbox Live going up for this release there is no point for gamers to purchase this console over the Playstation 4 or WiiU. It also gives stores like Gamestop almost ZERO incentive to carry their products as the fee to transfer cuts them out.

Like I said on the last episode of the Geekscape Podcast, this is the most unappealing console out there.

UPDATE: Our writer Joshua Jackson has put up an extensive writeup of the collect rumours.

The literal comedy geniuses from Mystery Science Theater 3000, Mike Nelson, Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy are taking on on The Doctor and some Daleks!

Released just yesterday, the guys at RiffTrax jump in front of this semi-canonical Doctor Who flick, and it looks absolutely hilarious. Here is a nice little sample for you!

From the release:

Before Matt Smith, before David Tennant, before Christopher Eccleston, before even the scarf and afro guy, there was Peter Cushing. Well, not before, exactly, because this feature-length movie isn’t a canonical part of the Doctor Who universe or storyline. So it’s sort of more adjacent, than before. It’s nearby, if nothing else. Approximate, at least. Like, Dr. Who is in it! But instead of a mysterious Timelord alien, he’s kind of just a confused human grandpa with the last name Who. But he does have a TARDIS! Of course, instead of a disguised alien craft it’s just, like, this junky thing he made with his granddaughter. Oh yeah, he hangs out with his granddaughters. Yeah. But then they travel through space and fight the most classic Dr. Who bad guys of all, the Daleks! Of course, in this imagining of Dr. Who, the Daleks are just some dopey trashcan looking guys with plungers sticking out of ‘em that talk funny — oh, that’s how they still are? Seriously?? PERFECT! IT’S CANON AFTER ALL!

So if you want this, you can get it VOD with jokes already pre synced! Check out the official page!

Holy shit. Holy. Shit. Watching this trailer. Jesus. Produced by Werner Herzog and Errol Morris, The Act of Killing looks at a group of death squad leaders who killed over 1,00,000 Indonesian people back in the 60’s. These executioners are praised as national heroes. This documentary shows them taking their memories of the murders they committed and recreating them in film. This results look shocking.

Be sure to check out The Act of Killing when it is released July 19th.

The guys over at Bungie are doing their thing again. Much like with past Haloz, they are pumping out some incredible live action meets CG  advertisements for their newest game, Destiny. Check it out!

Yesterday I got to experience one of those amazing life moments that only Geekscape could provide me. I had the opportunity to talk with Executive Producer/Director Jason deVilliers and Composer/Actor/Drummer/Superhero Ricky Fitness (Falomir) of The Aquabats Supershow! We talked about new, old and what to expect in the future. Follow me!

First off, how are you guys doing?

Jason: We’re doing great!

Right on. Lets jump into it then. I just watched the first episode of Season 2. Was completely blown away. How are you guys feeling about it? Do you feel like its the right progression from Season 1 and what are you overall thoughts so far.

Ricky: I am very excited about this upcoming season. All The Aquabats are more comfortable, and the whole crew really has found it’s groove. Everything is tighter, bigger explosions, better locations. I love it I am really excited.

I know what you mean. I re-watched Season 1 last night and this morning the first episode of Season 2. I can see how everything is tighter. Now the new animation style for the cartoons was really interesting. Where did you guys come up with that? It seemed like a HUGE departure from what you had in Season 1 and the original pilot.

Jason: The animations from Season 1 were serialized from episode to episode. In the Season 2 episodes, the ones that start airing June 1st, will have it’s own animation style. The one you just saw, the Heavy Metal/Ralph Bakshi style with the hand drawn over shot footage will only be in that one episode. Each episode will cover the origin of The Aquabats from the eyes of each member of the band. It will provide a perspective from each Aquabat on how they joined the group. You’ll see stop motion, computer graphics and hand drawn animations. They will change from episode to episode quite a bit.

Now I saw that you had Tony Hawk and Eric Koston as guest stars in the new episode. Can you talk about any of the new guests stars you have coming in and is there anybody that you’d really like to have guest star?

Jason: We completed shooting on the first five episodes and we hope there will be more this year. We definitely have an idea of who we’d like to have involved but I can’t talk about it yet, I can talk about who we have already filmed. Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance co-wrote and co-directed an episode with us, the Antibats episode. His brother Mike Way, the bassist of MCR, plays a character in that episode. Then we have Marks Mothersbaugh from Devo who is a really talented composer, will play Jimmy The Robots father in an upcoming episode. Leslie Hall, she is a cewbrity who makes some awesome stuff online and  has a pretty big following, she will be playing a camp counselor in the summer camp episode. Then Martin Starr from Freaks and Geeks will be making a guest starring role. We definitely have a big variety of guest stars.

Do you feel like with the show being as successful as it was, that you now have a bigger reach and are able to get bigger guest stars? Were there people you weren’t able to get in the first season that you could now?

Ricky: That’s hard to gauge.

Jason: I know that there are celebrities that love the show that watch it with their kids, and there were a few people we tried to get last season that were unavailable that we hope to get on a few episodes. Last season we had Lou Diamond Phillips, Jon Heder, Samm Levine, Al Yankovic. We had some really really great stars who were apart of last season. We have relationships with some great people through Yo Gabba Gabba and we know of people that watch that show that really want to be in it but it’s all just a matter of scheduling.

Now the scoring you guys do in all the little parts is really amazing, and in this first episode you have a nice little homage to Monkees with the chase montage. Do you guys have a different goal from episode to episode or are there any major songs that you couldn’t get into the first season that you were able to get into this second?

Ricky: There’s definitely going to be some awesome new songs. We can really go in any direction we want and that’s OK because that’s how The Aquabats are, and that’s also the point of the show. To be random and have fun. There are good songs that are going to be coming out in the second season. We all had a hand in scoring and that was a huge learning experience in it’s own. I believe the music this season will be a lot better.

Do you guys plan on bringing any of your back catalog from your albums to the show or doing remixes? When you guys did Pool Party for Yo Gabba Gabba you kind of changed it up for the younger audience, so will you guys be doing anything like that for this season?

Ricky: We just talked about that, we’re trying to figure that out. We want to re-record some of our older songs and put a new spin on them. That’s definitely in the works. There weren’t any back catalog in season one. We’d like to bring some back, and we think the kids will like it.

I’m also a huge Mega64 fan, and was totally stoked to see that you had them do some of the commercials from season one. I noticed that in the first episode of season 2 Rocco Botte did the voice over for the Sonic Boom commercial. Are you guys going to be doing more with them, possibly have them be guests on the show or do you guys plan on doing anything in any of their work?

Jason: That’s a good question. We shot the first episodes up in Utah and that made it harder to work with our friends out in California. I think we have Rocco doing voice overs on three commercials for the new episodes. Those guys are really really funny and we’d love to have them ON the show playing characters. With the next episodes we have planned it’s a definite possibility. They’re very talented.

I think it’s interesting to see their humor, toned down a bit, because they can be crude compare to you guys.

Ricky: Yeah haha, but working with kids programming you have to do that.

Now, as far as the progression from Season 1 to Season 2, was there anything in Season 1 that you weren’t able to do. Like you ran out of time or money or something that even the network said you couldn’t do that you were able to do in Season 2?

Jason: You know, the network, The HUB has been so gracious with us. They very rarely say we can’t do something. You know, we only get restrictions like if someone is riding in the Battletram that they have to be wearing their seatbelts. It’s more like just TV regulations for children’s shows. When it comes to creative stuff, the HUB has been really good at letting us do what our imaginations come up with. But, working on a tight budget, our show doesn’t quite lend itself to doing everything we want to do the way we want to do, but there is something about having that low budget that forces you to think outside the box. If you want to have a massive explosion or blow up a building, and you can’t, you have to think of another way to do it. I think a lot of our gags and things we have and the way we do things in the show have to do with having to get really creative to make things work. That also goes along the path with The Aquabats Show, trying to pay homage to the shows we grew up with in the 80’s. They had a kind of camp to them, the way they introduced model work or monster costumes where you can see the zipper. We don’t try to hide that kind of stuff. And I think really have a lower budget helps us with that.

Well I asked everything I wanted to ask, is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?

Jason: Just having the show become what it has, having the band grow as much as it has, having the reviews and ratings. It’s constantly growing bigger and bigger from word of mouth. When we got picked up by the HUB after filming our pilot, we’d never dream in a million years we’d be where we are now. Just having wrapped shooting  on the first episodes of Season 2 that start airing in June and having Season 1 on DVD just came out yesterday, and the fact the show is what we want it to be. We make the show we’d want to see if we were kids today, and the fact that there are people out there that support it and the fact we got nominated for an Emmy is is unreal. Rick?

Ricky: You pretty much covered it, very well said. I love to keep doing what we’re doing. There is such a loyal fanbase that support us that have stuck around forever and to all of our new fans thank you so much for watching. It’s a lot of fun and I hope you guys enjoy these new episodes!

And with that our call ended. I can’t be anymore excited for Season 2 to kick off. Keep and eye out for my review of the Season 1 DVD set and the Season 2 premier episode coming soon.

Side by side of COD: MOD 3 and Ghosts. There is a HUGE leap of “visual fidelity”. Granted, COD MOD 3 was running on VERY old tech, this jump is substantial.

Just reported from our friends over at Deadline, the signature show for the SyFy network will be coming to a close. The good news is that the fifth and final season will be a sort of closer, or an ender if you will. It will be abbreviated and finish up the story. From the news break:

“Warehouse 13 has been an incredible signature series for us,” said Syfy President of Original Content Mark Stern. “We are grateful to the loyal and passionate fan base and know that Jack Kenny, his gifted creative team, and outstanding ensemble cast will give them an amazing finale season.” Saul Rubinek, Eddie McClintock, Joanne Kelly, Allison Scagliotti and Aaron Ashmore star in the drama from Universal Cable Prods.

So all good things must come to an end, I am just bummed that the most adorable actress on TV (Allison Scagliotti ) wont be on any more to make me go “Awwww”.
