Last week we showed you Fox’s list of possible directors for the sequel to last years phenomenal Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The list included some great names, such as J Blakeson (The Disappearance Of Alice Creed), Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later), Rian Johnson (Looper, Brick), and Guillermo Del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy)

Shawn had commented that Matt Reeves had stepped down from his other projects, signaling that he may have ben the chosen one.

Looks like that is in fact the case! Deadline has revealed that Matt Reeves will in fact be at the helm of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The film is set to release on May 23rd, 2014.

What are your thoughts? Looking forward to the film? What did you think of his previous efforts, Cloverfield and Let Me In?

David S. Goyer has been doing his rounds to promote his upcoming series Da Vinci’s Demons. When speaking with Italian site badtaste.it, the topic of Man of Steel came up, and Goyer of course had a few words to say about it. Check out the interaction below!

Moderator: You are quite good at writing two kinds of stories: fantasy completely original stories, with a supernatural aspect, and also adaptations (especially from comic-books) that you reinvent in an original way. We know you’re working on a new comic-book adaptation, a DC Comics adaptation. What does this work have in common with you previous works?

David Goyer: Are we talking about Man of Steel? What Christopher Nolan and I have done with Superman is trying to bring the same naturalistic approach that we used adopted for the Batman trilogy. We always had a naturalistic approach, we want out stories to be rooted in reality, like they could happen in the same world we live in. It’s not that easy with Superman, and actually this doesn’t necessarily mean we will make a dark movie. But working on this reboot we are thinking about what would happen if a story like this one actually happened. How would people react to this? What impact would have the presence of Superman in the real world? What I really like to do is writing “genre” stories without a cartoonish element. I did the same with Da Vinci’s Demons, and I’ll do the same with Man of Steel.

David of course has quite a few superhero writing credits under his belt. From Nolan’s Batman trilogy to Ghost Rider, Blade to The Crow, he’s been heavily invested with the stuff for decades. I know I can’t wait for Man of Steel, how about you?

Man of Steel soars into theatres on June 14, 2013.

Looks like the Academy has found it’s host for the upcoming 85th Annual Academy Awards. Funnyman Seth Macfarlane, creator of hits like Family Guy and Ted will headline the ceremony, which is scheduled for February 24th. 2013.

Seth had a pretty big year with the release of the well reviewed and well received Ted. Seth definitely resonates with younger audiences, and the Academy is likely hoping that his presence will draw a wider audience to view the show.

From the press release:

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – Seth MacFarlane will host the 85th Academy Awards®, telecast producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced today. This will be MacFarlane’s first appearance on Oscar’s stage. The 85th Academy Awards will be broadcast live on Oscar® Sunday, February 24, on the ABC Television Network.

“We are thrilled to have Seth MacFarlane host the Oscars. His performing skills blend perfectly with our ideas for making the show entertaining and fresh,” said Zadan and Meron. “He will be the consummate host, and we are so happy to be working with him.”

“It’s truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars,” said MacFarlane. “My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don’t find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast.”

“Seth is unbelievably talented,” said Academy President Hawk Koch. “We couldn’t be happier with the creative team we’ve assembled. With Craig, Neil, and now Seth, we’re off to a great start.”

MacFarlane made his feature directorial debut this summer with the box office success “Ted. “He also co-wrote and produced the film, and voiced the title character. “Ted” has brought in over $420 million worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing films of the year.

MacFarlane is the creative force behind the television series “Family Guy” and co-creator of “American Dad!” and “The Cleveland Show. “In September he hosted “Saturday Night Live” for the first time, for the show’s 38th season premiere. An accomplished live performer, MacFarlane has played to sold-out audiences at London’s Royal Albert Hall and New York’s Carnegie Hall. In 2011 he released his debut album, “Music Is Better Than Words,” which earned two Grammy® nominations. He also has earned 13 Emmy® nominations and won two for his work on “Family Guy.”

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2012 will be presented on Sunday, February 24, 2013, at the Dolby Theatre™ at Hollywood & Highland Center®. Don Mischer will direct the telecast for the third consecutive time. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 225 countries worldwide.

What do you think of the choice? Will you be tuning in?

Last week, MachinimaFlixist and Geekscape grouped up to hold an awesome (and awesomely successful) advanced screening of the upcoming horror Sinister. It was a ton of fun (or so I hear, I’m stuck up here in Canada), and an awesome experience for everyone involved.

Apologies to those who wanted to go but couldn’t! The screening turned out far more successful than we could have imagined: as we let you know previously, we actually had to ask for a bigger venue as we sold out the original so fast.

If you missed the screening, you’ll get a shot to see Sinister when it releases on October 12th. The film is said to be one of the scariest of the year, and currently holds 100% on RottenTomatoes. I know I’ll be lining up!

We managed to grab a few photo’s at the screening (just a few, in all our excitement we forgot that our phones also double as cameras). Also take a look at the exclusive poster that was created for the screening!

Folks lining up long before the film.
Huge lineup! A little bit closer now!
Sinister‘s director Scott Derrickson was there! Here he signs posters before the show.
The exclusive poster, created just for the screening!

Did you make it to the show? What did you think!?

Thanks again to all who made the screening such a success!

In an announcement that surprised nobody, Columbia Pictures announced today that both Andrew Garfield and Mark Webb will be coming back for a sequel to this years The Amazing Spider-Man.

The first film did quite well both critically and financially. The Amazing Spider-Man currently holds a 73% Fresh rating on RottenTomatoes, and has raked in over $750 Million at the box office.

Emma Stone has not yet been confirmed, but is expecting to reprise her role as Gwen Stacy in the currently untitled sequel.

Whatever it’s called, the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man is set to begin production early next year, and will swing into theatres on May 2nd, 2014.

Are you excited for this news? The community seems pretty torn on the first film. How did you feel about it?

A few weeks ago we showed you the trailer for Barry Levinson’s (Bugsy, Rain Man) upcoming found footage title The Bay.

The film looks terrifying and absolutely fantastic. This new clip is no exception, and really showcases (realistically I might add) just how unlikely humanity typically can be to help someone in need.

Check out the new clip below and get excited, this should be great.

The Bay hits theatres (and VOD) on November 2nd.

Need a plot refresher? Here’s the synopsis:

The quaint seaside town of Chesapeake Bay thrives on water; it is the lifeblood of the community. When two biological researchers from France find a staggering level of toxicity in the water, they attempt to alert the mayor, but he refuses to create a panic in the docile town. As a result, a deadly plague is unleashed, turning the people of Chesapeake Bay into hosts for a mutant breed of parasites that take control of their minds, and eventually their bodies. A brutal and harrowing creature feature for the 21st century, THE BAY chronicles the descent of a small town into absolute terror.

Just 17 more days until season 3 of AMC’s The Walking Dead will hit your television!

Seems as though most folks are excited enough as is, but here’s a new TV spot to get you a little more riled up!

Again, season 3 premieres on October 14, and it should be pretty interesting to see what this gang does when it heads to prison!

Season three also looks a lot more interesting than the second, which I honestly had a hard time getting through. How about a new episode of your version Telltale!?

A few days ago the first trailer for The Collection hit the net (spoiler: creepy as hell. Check it out here). Looks like LD Entertainment is ramping up promotion, as today they released the first poster for the upcoming film.

What do you think of it? Were you a fan of the first film? I haven’t seen it myself, but I’ll definitely be checking it out before this one releases!

The Collection is in theatres November 30th.

Need a refresher on the plot? Here’s the synopsis:

When Elena’s (Emma Fitzpatrick) friends take her to a secret party at an undisclosed location, she never imagined she would become the latest victim of The Collector, a psychopathic killer. The Collector kidnaps and transports her to an abandoned hotel he’s transformed into his own private maze of torture and death. Upon learning of his daughter’s disappearance, Elena’s wealthy father (Christopher McDonald) hires a group of mercenaries to retrieve her from the vicious grips of The Collector. These mercenaries coerce Arkin (Josh Stewart), the only man to have escaped the wrath of this heinous monster, to lead them through the gruesome labyrinth. Now, Arkin finds himself fighting for his own life in order to save Elena. “The Collection,” directed by Marcus Dunstan and written by Dunstan and Patrick Melton, is a suspense horror film with nonstop thrills at every turn, starring Josh Stewart (The Dark Knight Rises), Emma Fitzpatrick (The Social Network), and Christopher McDonald (Requiem for a Dream).

Sony has been doing some pretty cool stuff with their game consoles as of late. From Cross-Buy (Buy a game on a PS3 or Vita, get a free/discounted copy for the other), bringing the amazing Playstation Plus service to the Vita, and now their PS3 collections.

The Playstation Collections have all been first party games. Titles like God of War (collecting all 5 games in a $39.99 package), Ratchet & Clank, and Infamous have been collected and sold for a great price.

It seems as though Ubisoft wants in on that action, as this November, exclusively to the PS3 they’ll be releasing the Ezio trilogy of Assassin’s Creed games. On November 14, for just $39.99, you’ll be able to get your hands on the compilation, featuring Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin’s Creed Revalations, and Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood. The collection also includes any DLC released for those titles.

This is a perfect entry into a great series if you haven’t yet had an opportunity to enjoy it!

This is a very, very cool special edition.

EW has just revealed a ‘Broken Cowl’ edition of the Blu-Ray for The Dark Knight Rises. The limited edition combo-pack (as well as standard Blu-Ray, Digital, and DVD editions) will hit shelves on December 4th.

The combo pack includes a Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital Copy of the film, in some of the coolest packaging I’ve seen in quite a while.

Check out the photos below, and let us know which edition you’ll be adding to your collection!

20th Century Fox announced today that they have hired Mark Millar as a creative consultant for their Marvel film properties.

Millar is obviously no stranger to either the comic or film world. He has written for a variety of huge and hugely popular titles, and two of his own creations (Wanted and Kick-Ass) have spawned highly successful films. Fox would clearly like a repeat of the success of these films, and as Deadline reports Millar has been tasked with finding new creative avenues for the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises, which may be able to do just that.

Speaking with Deadline, Millar had this to say about the hire:

“As someone who has spent his entire life obsessed with both comic-books and movies, this is essentially my dream gig as it’s a unique combination of both,” stated Millar. “I spent ten years working at Marvel and am really happy with the work I did on the comic side of things so the idea of working with these characters now in a brand new medium is enormously exciting for me. I really like the Fox team, love this bold new direction they have for their franchises and am proud to be working alongside some of modern cinema’s biggest talents. James Mangold is incredible, Matthew Vaughn’s one of my closest pals and Josh Trank gave us, in my opinion, one of the greatest superhero movies of the last decade with Chronicle. The invitation to join this crew was maybe the coolest phone-call I’ve ever had.”

What do you think of this? Are you a fan of Millar’s work?

I’ve always found the Paranormal Activity franchise to be very intriguing. Oren Peli’s directorial debut felt like a breath of fresh air in the tired genre. The film felt raw and real, and was a genuinely terrifying experience.

It seems like now there is a new (typically bad) found footage title every few weeks unfortunately, and the film that I felt reinvigorated the genre is likely solely responsible for this.

I have also really enjoyed the Paranormal Activity sequels to this point. While not fully maintaining the fresh feeling of the original, the films are so well tied together that the series really needs to be watched as a whole, and feels much stronger that way. I was especially impressed and surprised with the plot of the second film, beginning long before the events of the first, and following through until right after.

The series is turning into a yearly event from Paramount (and why not, the films are inexpensive to make and have a fantastic return). October is approaching, and so is the series’ fourth instalment. I just hope the series can stay away from Saw syndrome, where a very cool and scary idea turned into a joke.

Paranormal Activity 4 hits theatres on October 19. Check out the newest trailer and let us know what you think!

I’m not quite sold on this one yet. From the trailer it doesn’t present the insanely tense atmosphere that some of the previous titles have. I guess I’ll find out in October! If it’s horrible, at least we’ve got The Bay to look forward to.

Don’t know what The Guild is? Netflix it, YouTube it, iTunes it, go to WatchTheGuild. Just do whatever you need to do to see the available five seasons.

The Guild is insanely hilarious, and if you’re reading Geekscape, you likely fit right into the shows intended audience. The show revolves around a ragtag group of MMO gamers, and the trials and tribulations of their lives.

Seen them? Great, now watch this trailer for the upcoming Season 6, which premieres on October 2 (just six more days).

What do you think? Looking forward to the new season?

Gus Vant Sant (Good Will Hunting) and Matt Damon are pairing up again for what looks to be another touching drama.

The film is called Promised Land, and will be available for your viewing pleasure on January 11th, 2013). It features a pretty stellar cast with the likes of Matt Damon, John Krasinski, Frances McDormand, Rosemarie DeWitt, Titus Welliver, and more.

Take a peek at the trailer, and let us know what you think! The plot synopsis is as follows:

Promised Land is the new contemporary drama directed by Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, Milk). Matt Damon plays Steve Butler, an ace corporate salesman who is sent along with his partner, Sue Thomason (Frances McDormand), to close a key rural town in his company’s expansion plans.  With the town having been hit hard by the economic decline of recent years, the two outsiders see the local citizens as likely to accept their company’s offer, for drilling rights to their properties, as much-needed relief. What seems like an easy job for the duo becomes complicated by the objection of a respected schoolteacher (Hal Holbrook) with support from a grassroots campaign led by another man (John Krasinski), as well as the interest of a local woman (Rosemarie DeWitt). Promised Land explores America at the crossroads where big business and the strength of small-town community converge.

The trailer is very effective, and the films looks pretty powerful from this short glimpse. It’s great to see another team up between Van Sant and Damon. Here’s hoping for another Good Will Hunting!

A small but interesting piece of news for A&E’s upcoming Psycho prequel, Nestor Carbonell looks to have a part in the series.

Just shortly ago from showrunner Carlton Cuse’s (Lost) twitter account:

Carbonell of course played the mysterious and unaging Richard on NBC’s insanely popular drama Lost. You’ll likely also recognize him as mayor Garcia of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy.

No other information has been revealed, so who he will portray is still a mystery. A great casting choice however, Carbonell is typically fantastic.

Jaimie Alexander, currently reprising her role as Sif for the Thor sequel, broke news last night that she had been seriously injured during filming. From her twitter account:

Today I sustained a pretty horrible injury. I’m lucky I’m not paralyzed. Thank you (with all of my heart) to those who’ve looked after me.

No further details were given, but it looks as though the actress is already on the road to recovery, as today she followed up:

Received great news today! Meds are kicking in. Awesome funny nurses here at the hospital. Physio tomorrow. All good. #HappySif#Thankful

I’m sure we’re all glad that she didn’t turn out paralyzed, and that she’s starting recovery so quickly! Thanks to ComingSoon for breaking the story.

Dead Space is a fantastic series. I picked up the first title from a bargain bin not knowing much about it, but upon popping it into my PS3, I quickly learned that I was in for a huge treat.

The game is more action than survival horror (definitely not in the same style as the Silent Hill series). Even with the action heavy gameplay, it still manages to be creepy as hell.Dead Space has excellent visuals (even today) and great a soundtrack. The plot is also very strong, featuring a deep story revolving around religion and corruption.

Dead Space 2 also received much praise. I’ve had that one on my shelf since launch day, but have yet to open it up. I do plan to play the hell out of it, but that time simply hasn’t come. It also had a fantastic ad campaign with the extremely memorable “You Mom Hates Dead Space 2″ series of videos.

I hope to get to the second title soon, as the release of Dead Space 3 is fast approaching! The game is set to hit shelves in February 2013. Developer Visceral games teased us today with a long look at what to expect from the third game. Check it out below and let us know what you think!

Of course you’ve heard of Telltale’s video-game version of The Walking Dead, their fantastic adaptation of Robert Kirman’s insanely popular series.

Here at Geekscape, we’ve been gushing over the title since the first episode hit in April, and have been enthusiastically eating up every tidbit of information since (check out our reviews of the currently available episodes here, here, and here).

Are you afraid of online purchases? Or simply want a physical copy that you can take with you when the zombie apocalypse happens? You’re in luck as Telltale recently tweeted the following:

You’ll be able to pick up a copy of The Walking Dead on an old fashioned disc on December 4th!

However, you should instead pick up the game right now if you haven’t, as it’s one of the best of the year!

The film still doesn’t have an official title, but today it got its first star. Variety was first to break the news today that Gina Carano, MMA fighter and star of 2011’s Haywire is the first name attached to the film.

Carano is now attached to a few titles currently in production. She’s set to appear in the upcoming Fast and the Furious 6 as well as something called In the Blood.

It sounds like producer Adi Shankar was set on Carano pretty early on:

I don’t know how I’m supposed to make a movie that is supposed to be the female version of ‘The Expendables’ without Gina Carano in it. It would be like making Twix without caramel or Jamba Juice without jamba.

I wonder who else we’ll see attached. Carano is much younger than a lot of people were anticipating. Will the film be a mix of younger and older stars, or will we miss out on the classic action heroines completely? Whatever the case is, we’ve got our eyes on this one!

We reported last month that artist Tony Moore was suing Robert Kirkman for co-ownership of The Walking Dead franchise.

Looks like that likely did not happen however, as Deadline reports that the pair has just settled out of court. A joint statement did not reveal details, but stated that “all parties have settled the entire matter to everyone’s mutual satisfaction”.

The two have been warring back and forth for some time now between various titles, credits, and of course money, so it’s certainly good to see an end to the feud. I don’t see them working together again any time soon however.

Did you know that Universal was planning to reboot The Mummy franchise?

Deadline broke the news today that Universal Pictures has set their sights on Total Recall‘s Len Wiseman. Jon Spaihts (Promethius) is currently working on the script, and the film is shooting for a Summer 2014 release.

Film producer Alex Kurtzman in a Deadline interview had this to say about the project:

“When I first heard Universal was relaunching this, that is the image that popped into my head, the period tale, the old monster, but when Bob and Alex pitched it, there was a great new take and approach, and a very different mummy as well,” Wiseman told me. “It’s a darker twist on the material, a scarier version.”

The film will apparently take place in more modern times than previous iterations, which is a very interesting move. The previous franchise took place around the 1920’s.

Wiseman also had this to say about the film and its title character:

“One of the things that interested me with this mummy is, he’s still in essence a man,” Wiseman said. “They haven’t turned his brain into a monster brain. He still has a personality and is very cunning and calculating. He’s a true character in any form, and in creature form, even if he is that staggering creature, it becomes more important that he’s a thinking, calculating person.”

I totally forgot about this franchise. I don’t think I’ve seen any of the titles since The Mummy 2 was in theatres. A modern take is a cool idea, but I’m a bit wary of it coming from the writer of Promethius and the director of this summer’s Total Recall, as neither of those turned out too hot.

What are your thoughts? Looking forward to this one? Hoping for Brendan Fraser to return?

Looper hits theatres this Friday, and I couldn’t be more excited. The movie looks fantastic, and ever since Brick was released in 2005 I’ve been wanting another collaboration between Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Rian Johnson. Today, a third official trailer for the film was released, in a very different style than past iterations. Check it out below!

Here’s a synopsis, right from Johnson himself:

“Looper is a time travel movie, set in a near future where time travel doesn’t exist but will be invented in a few decades. It’s pretty dark in tone, much different from Bloom, and involves a group of killers (called Loopers) who work for a crime syndicate in the future.

Their bosses send their targets hogtied and blindfolded back in time to the Loopers, and their job is to simply shoot them in the head and dispose of the body. So the target vanishes from the future and the Loopers dispose of a corpse that doesn’t technically exist, a very clean system.

Complications set in from there.”

It sounds extremely intriguing, it looks fantastic, and this close to release is still a very mysterious title. I know I’ll be lining up on Friday, how about you?

We’ve already seen set photos and a number of other leaked images, but Fox today released the first official image for the upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine sequel. What do you think?

“Shit that guy is ripped” is the first thing that came into my mind. If The Wolverine turns out half as good as Hugh Jackman looks here, it will absolutely blow the abysmal first film out of the water.

Looks like the results are in for the 64th Annual Primetime Emmys! From what I’m seeing on twitter it looks like some were rather surprised with the results (though isn’t that always the case). Let us know what you think below!

It was very interesting to see something other than Mad Men win the best drama category. Homeland has to be pretty awesome to beat out all the others. I’ll definitely be checking that one out.

Also, do people actually find Jon Cryer funny?

It was also great to see Aaron Paul finally get some recognition. That guy is golden.

What are your thoughts? Do you agree with the awards and nominations? Are you angry that Community only had one nomination?

Thanks to CinemaBlend for the list.

MGM/New Line today released a new poster for the upcoming The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. The poster gives us a peek at a confident looking Bilbo Baggins (portrayed by Martin Freeman) and his weapon of choice, Sting.

The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey is the first part of the Hobbit trilogy of films, and opens on December 14th.

What do you think?

With no Dredd 3D showings near me until this evening, I decided to take a stroll down to The House at the End of the Street. It’s a large house, with some pretty faces and some half-decent performances, but is it worth the 101 minutes and your ~$10? Read on to find out!

The film begins with an odd, yet intriguing opening. No introductions, no explanations, just a creepy looking girl slowly stumbling down a hallway. She treks her way to her parents room where she proceeds to kill them both brutally. The scene likely intended to feel much more dramatic, but it felt as though it was executed rather poorly. The camera is constantly jumping around, and irritatingly shifting in and out of focus for the duration, adding a high level of distraction to the scene rather than the discomfort that was likely intended.

The previous scene cuts away, and we’re introduced to Elissa (Jennifer Lawrence) and her mother Sarah (Elizabeth Shue). The pair has just moved into the area (made possible due to the events next door causing a huge drop in property value). As seems to be common in these films (even just a few weeks ago in The Possession), the family has been broken by a recent divorce, and mother and daughter are definitely having trouble getting along. I found many of the mother-daughter conversations to be among the weakest points of the film. Dialogue feels extremely forced, and the two characters will needlessly change tones and moods without a moments notice. Maybe this is realistic? I recall my sister doing this frequently.

A BBQ is hosted to welcome the pair to the neighborhood. It’s here that we spend a little  too much time on some extremely disposable characters (most of which we will never see again). The purpose of the feast is to learn how negatively the neighborhood feels about the house and its remaining resident Ryan, the (seemingly) only remaining member of the family. The feeling is extremely negative: though he is said to keep essentially to himself, one of the neighbors mentions that they wouldn’t mind if the house was to burn down with him inside.

The House at the End of the Street took too long to get to this point, and the pace doesn’t seem to ramp up for some time. When we’re finally introduced to the mysterious Ryan, an intense relationship (with an extremely awkward feeling performance from Max Thieriot) seems to bloom between he and Elissa almost instantaneously. He states that he’s never been able to speak to anyone as he can to Elissa, and she appears to eat up every word he says, all within a day or two of meeting.

Ryan of course,  isn’t being completely honest. He seems like a nice enough guy, but it’s then revealed that he keeps his murderous sister locked in the basement. What’s up with that? Seems like Elissa bit off more than she could chew with this one.

The House at the End of the Street was boring. It takes far too long to introduce its characters, and there are very few of them that we actually give a damn about (a decent performance from Jennifer Lawrence was about the only saving grace). Again, much of the dialogue feels forced, and does little to further plot or character. I can’t really pinpoint a time where the experience fell apart for me, because it rarely (if ever) feels like it’s fully together.

We then get a few instances of Cabin in the Woods level stupidity before the finale hits (I loved Cabin in the Woods, I’m referring to the deliberate stupidity of the characters). Ryan conveniently forgets to lock the door that has been constantly locking for years, and then after this puts the key to said door within easy rich of his prisoner. The finale approaches quickly now (though some scenes do seem to drag on forever).

Shortly before the film ends, there is a moment I found absolutely brilliant, that could have redeemed the rest of the experience. Of course however, it goes nowhere, and the rest of The House at the End of the Street degrades back into a nigh-unwatchable mess.

My recommendation: avoid this house at any cost, even if it’s just to tide you over until Dredd 3D shows (check out our review for that one here!).

This is some awesome news for Del Toro fans (read: pretty much everyone)

Deadline reports that a TV adaptation of the acclaimed vampire series The Strain is in the works for FX.

Del Toro himself, along with Chuck Hogan actually wrote the source material, and both will be handling the TV rewrite. Del Toro is also set to direct the pilot of the adaptation!

Deadline states that Del Toro originally envisioned The Strain as a television project. Networks weren’t interested however, and it was turned into a novel instead. The networks then came crawling back, but their pleas went unanswered until after the trilogy was completed.

Carlton Cuse (Losl) is set as showrunner, and will concurrently be running the A&E Psycho prequel Bates Motel. In an interview with Variety, Cuse spoke of the series, stating “These are very scary vampires, these are not romantic vampires. They will give you nightmares.”

The synopsis of the novels opening helps further this claim:

A Boeing 777 arrives at JFKand is on its way across the tarmac, when it suddenly stops dead. All window shades are pulled down. All lights are out. All communication channels have gone quiet. Crews on the ground are lost for answers, but an alert goes out to the CDC. Dr. Ephraim “Eph” Goodweather, head of their Canary project, a rapid-response team that investigates biological threats, gets the call and boards the plane. What he finds makes his blood run cold.

In a pawnshop in Spanish Harlem, a former professor and survivor of the Holocaust named Abraham Setrakian knows something is happening. And he knows the time has come, that a war is brewing.

So begins a battle of mammoth proportions as the vampiric virus that has infected New York begins to spill out into the streets. Eph, who is joined by Setrakian and a motley crew of fighters, must now find a way to stop the contagion and save his city – a city that includes his wife and son – before it is too late.

It sounds terrifying, and it sounds perfect for a network like FX. I don’t get any Vampire Diaries vibes from this one either (no offence fans), meaning we may actually get some vampire horror back on TV!

Today is actually the first I’ve heard of the series, but it sounds extremely intriguing. The pilot isn’t set to shoot until next September, so you’ve got lots of time to get acquainted with the novels!

Seems like there have been no shortage of set photos leaked from the procduction of Kick-Ass 2 (Check out some previous leaks here, here, and here). Today has been no exception: the latest images give us our first look at Christopher Mintz-Plasse as The Mother Fucker. Dude sure looks grown up from the first film!

Take a gander at the shots below, and let us know what you think!

Kick-Ass 2 hits theatres on June 28, 2013.

We let you know earlier this month that Halloween (John Carpenter, not Rob Zombie) was set to return to theatres next month. A trailer has just been released for Michaels return, so check it out!

Halloween will return to theatres beginning on October 25th, and the new mini-documentary You Can’t Kill The Boogeyman: 35 Years Of Halloween will be screening with it.

Looking forward to this? Will you be seeing it over any other horror films this Halloween?
