This must be absolutely nerve-wracking! Peter Jackson’s adaptation of JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit is set to premiere in New Zealand this Wednesday, but the film isn’t even finished post production!

The team has less than 48 hours to complete the movie, so it’s a definite race against the clock. Everything of course, is detailed in the latest Hobbit video diary. Maybe if they didn’t spend so much time on these, the movie would be done (though they’re very cool and are a pleasure to watch)!

Since you’re probably not going to the premiere, you’ll be able to check out The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey on December 14th. Excited? Will you be seeing the movie in traditional 24fps, or are you lucky enough to live near a 48fps showing?

I can’t wait!

New Line today released the first television spot for the upcoming (and highly anticipated) first chapter of the Hobbit trilogy.

Peter Jackson of course returned to direct the film, which looks nothing short of fantastic at this point. As most of you know, the film will also be shown in a new 60 frames per second format in some theatres, which is nearly 3 times the FPS of a traditional film. At any rate, it will be interesting to see how the new format pans out.

Check out the spot below, and let us know what you think! The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opens on December 15th.

Been awhile since you read The Hobbit? Here’s the synopsis for the film:

The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

MGM/New Line today released a new poster for the upcoming The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. The poster gives us a peek at a confident looking Bilbo Baggins (portrayed by Martin Freeman) and his weapon of choice, Sting.

The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey is the first part of the Hobbit trilogy of films, and opens on December 14th.

What do you think?

So, the trailer only has three new bits of footage but I don’t think any of us has a problem with that at all. Something is better than nothing right?

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is in theaters December 14th, 2012

Ian McKellen from the Hall H line with an unidentified fan standing next to him.

Sir Ian McKellen, aka “Magneto” and “Gandalf” made a unique visit to the Hall H line the night before Peter Jackson debuted footage from both of his new films, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey(2012) and The Hobbit: There and Back Again(2013) at the San Diego Comic Con. At around midnight the mega-star came down to the line of fans with no fanfare, body guards, or retinue of assistants and just told everyone he saw the line from his hotel room window at The Hilton. He knew they were in line for Hall H and that the film he stars in would be featured the next day as part of the Warner Bros. roll out of films coming 2012-2014.

He exclaimed, “You are all crazy!” to the crowd as he smiled and waved playfully to the swarm of fans.  I would have thought that after a few minutes of that he would have been on his way back up to his room but he actually posed with fans for pictures and signed autographs for at least a half hour in the line.

He even took this photo with longtime Geekscapist Alice Acheron!

Fans of the film were very respectful and no one at anytime rushed or pushed to be near the star. The only rude comment made in the half hour was myself yelling for him to turn around so I could get a photo with my I-Phone (see above) in which he obliged willingly. Everyone near me started snapping pictures and the shot would have been dark if it had not been for everyone’s flashes going off. The moment itself was really cool and just part of the magic that can happen at Comic-Con Intl.

Here’s a video I took of Ian’s surprise appearance:
