Welcome to Walking Dead Weekly! As the title implies, each week (bearing a new episode of course), we’ll be taking a look at the latest episode of the AMC series. I’ll let you know how I felt about each weekly offering, and will also compare it to what Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard were doing with the comic at the same time.

This week’s column is coming a little later than I had hoped, as I had quite a bit of catching up to do. See, I used to be a huge fan of the series, and then that damn farm came, which was a fantastic (and small) arc in the comic, but absolutely drawn out and boring as hell in the show. I gave up on Season 2 about halfway through. When I heard nothing but good things about the Season 3 premiere, I figured now was as good a time as any to catch up!

Needless to say, there will be spoilers ahead. If you haven’t watched the episode yet, I wouldn’t read any further! I’m sure most of you have however, based on the fact that over 10 million people tuned into the premiere!

Episode Thoughts – “Seed”

First off, I have to say how good it feels to be back in this universe. I remember how insanely excited I was for October 31st, 2010, when The Walking Dead would see its first episode. A serious drama about a world overrun with zombies, that would be based on Robert Kirkman’s fantastic ongoing adventure? Yes please! Then as quickly as it came, it would be over: after a fantastic premiere, a couple more great episodes, and a few more decent to mediocre ones, the first season would come to a close, and almost another year would pass before we’d get another look at Rick and the gang.

October of 2011 would host the premiere of the show’s second season, and honestly, I barely remember any of it. What I do recall is seeing the first few episodes before realizing that I simply didn’t care about what the show was offering at that point. I stuck with it for a couple more episodes before it dropped off my radar completely.

Season 3 premiered just this past Sunday, and it was Geekscape staffer Scott Alminiana’s thoughts on the episode that really made me consider giving it another shot:

The opportunity for a weekly column fell into my lap shortly afterwards, and I was in. I powered through the remaining episodes of Season 2 (seriously, how the hell did you all do it?), and after a few boring ass hours and a really intense one (damn that finale), it was premiere time (side note: finally Shane is gone, FINALLY)!

The premiere opened with an unsettling close up of an old-man walker and a pal, just seconds before being ended by Rick and friends. I instantly noticed just how much older Carl looked (growing up unfortunately does not follow production schedules), but the writers had it all covered, the farm went down ages ago, and the survivors have already been through a winter since we last saw them.

RIP Owl. 2012-2012

The group is weak and hungry: hunting is rarely successful due to the fact that it has been very cold, and any buildings found tend to have been raided long before the survivors’ arrival. Things look bleak, and seem to only be getting bleaker, as walkers are hot on their tail.

We’re not far from the moment that everyone had been waiting for at this point. After much anticipation, and a brief tease during the season two finale, our survivors finally come across a seemingly abandoned (well, by living things) prison. Sure, the place is full of walkers, but clear them out, and this could be the safe haven they’d been waiting for.

More zombies in one frame than the whole of season 2!

The rest of the episode is really action heavy, and that’s something I absolutely welcomed after last season. The yard and surrounding area need to be cleared of dead, and it’s up to the gang to do it. Of course, this is easier said than done, and once everything appears to be peachy, another wave of walkers pops out. The only thing that really bugged me here were the zombies clad in riot gear (ripped straight from Left 4 Dead 2). The group acts extremely scared of these guys, but beside the fact that they’d be harder to kill, they’re also basically harmless: thick gloves prevent them from scratching anyone, and they’re also wearing face shields, preventing anyone from being bitten.

Look familiar gamers?

Aside from a few moments that may surprise you after this point (and a rather disturbing idea from Lori), plotwise nothing more really happens until the episodes closing moments, when it’s revealed (unsurprisingly) that the West Georgia Correctional Facility was occupied long before Rick and the others arrived.

Overall, I thought the episode was a great return to form for the series, and I’m happy to say that once again I’m a fan of the show. I can’t wait for David Morrissey to pop up as The Governor and personally introduce the group to this season’s tagline: Fight the dead,  fear the living.

I have to point out just how amazing the show looks too: cinematography is very strong, and as usual the makeup/effects are freaking phenominal (I definitely had a couple “FUCKING SICK” moments throughout the course of the episode. As far as I’m aware, The Walking Dead offers simply the most disturbing (in a good way) zombies ever to appear on screen.

Comic Comparison

Well, the prison took a little longer to make it to the show than some of us would have hoped (it was introduced in Issue 13, but by my count this is episode 20). Now that it’s here though, it seems like so far we’ve got a pretty accurate representation of what was portrayed in the comics.

He doesn’t say it in the show, but you can sure see it in his eyes.

There of course are some differences between the show and its source material in this episode, mostly having to do with group members. Fan favorites Daryl and Glenn are thankfully still around, despite one never existing in paper form, and the other deciding to stay back on the farm (which never went to shit). Hershel manages to get himself bitten near the end of the episode (which leads to a moment akin to Episode Two of The Walking Dead game), while in the book of course, he never leaves the farm.

Sadly, show only fans appear to have missed out on this one.

Another thing that was skipped over in the premiere (as mentioned above) is the entirety of the Winter season. Issue 9 had the group taking shelter within a gated community, having missed the warning of the fact that everyone inside was dead. This actually happened before the farm section in the book, but since we hadn’t seen it, I definitely hoped it would show up here as it was a fantastic issue and plot point.

Michonne looks to already be establishing herself in the series (after a quick introduction in last season’s finale), yet in the book she wouldn’t show up for another 6 issues. Also, her undead companions look absolutely disgusting (in a good way).

Again, this episode was very heavy on the action. That being said, there isn’t really a ton of things to compare! In both cases we get an introduction to a major set piece that is part of the most-loved story arc from the book, and if this episode is any indication, will be the same for the series.

Home sweet home?

In closing, all I can really say is that I can’t wait for more. If the rest of the season follows the source material as closely as this opening episode, we’ve got some absolutely fantastic television ahead of us.

See you next week!

Well, it’s been a few days, so it’s time for more Wreck-It Ralph viral! We’ve already had a look at two of the worlds that we’re set to visit in the film: Ralph’s home game, Fix-it Felix, and racer Sugar Rush.

The latest ad gives us a look at the game Ralph wants to end up in, Hero’s Duty. This world pretty much looks like every space themed shooter since Halo, which has to be a deliberate decision, and of course would be parodying that fact.

I can’t wait for Wreck-It Ralph to hit on November 2nd. The film looks original and hilarious, and I’m really excited to see characters from many different game companies in one place.

Check out the latest viral below, and let us know what you think!

Just a couple weeks until launch means that it’s the perfect time for more Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth news! The brawler is set to launch on October 30th for Xbox 360, while Wii U players will have to wait for launch day (November 18 in North America).

Ubisoft today revealed the full roster of playable characters for the title, as well as a cool piece of key art to show them off. Here is who you’ll be able to suit-up as:

1.      Black Widow
2.      Captain America
3.      Doctor Doom
4.      Dr. Strange
5.      Hawkeye
6.      Human Torch
7.      Iceman
8.      Iron Man
9.      Loki
10.     Magneto
11.     Phoenix
12.     Queen Veranke
13.     Scarlet Witch
14.     Spider Man
15.     Storm
16.     Super Skrull
17.     The Hulk
18.     Thor
19.     Venom
20.     Wolverine

Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth is a motion-based title (for Xbox 360 users, the Kinect Sensor is required), so it will be interesting to see how it plays. The game certainly looks cool, but of course, gameplay is everything! Check out the gameplay trailer below, and let us know if you’re planning on picking this one up!

The long running copyright case over who owns Superman looks like it may finally be ending. Deadline has just reported that Warner Brothers has won the legal battle after a Judge determined that a 20 year old agreement between the estate of Supes’ co-creator Joe Schuster and DC Comics negated the heirs’ ability to terminate the copyright they had granted.

Deadline has an upload of the dismissal, in which judge Otis Wright III stated “The Court finds that the 1992 Agreement, which represented the Shuster heirs’ opportunity to renegotiate the prior grants of Joe Shuster’s copyrights, superseded and replaced all prior grants of the Superman copyrights. The 1992 Agreement thus represents the parties’ operative agreement and, as a post-1978 grant, it is not subject to termination”.

Rights from some of Superman’s early titles were set to return to the heirs on October 26, 2013.

What are your thoughts on the case and its conclusion? I wasn’t extremely familiar with it, but to my uneducated eyes, it simply looks like the estate made a bad deal back in the day, and now wants to undo it. In that case, isn’t the ruling just?

You may not recognize the Waterman Entertainment name, but you’re pretty well guaranteed to be aware of some of their film properties. The company has been responsible for some pretty big hits, including titles from Casper, Alvin and the Chipmunks, and Stuart Little.

Today Cooper Waterman, Head of Development for the company, proudly announced that he had acquired the feature rights for iconic cat Heathcliff directly from the current holder, Actor Peter Gallagher.

Gallagher sounded pretty excited about the announcement as well, stating “Their track record is impeccable.  Casper, Stuart Little and Alvin are examples of incorporating elements that past audiences loved and adding a contemporary flair that makes these properties endure with a whole new generation. That is exactly what I was looking to achieve with Heathcliff.  We want our existing fans to identify with the characters they know while introducing him to an entirely new audience.  As a creator I know that they will be attentive to our lasting vision for the brand and welcome our input, which is very important to me”.

Waterman entertainment has also recently acquired some other big properties, including the children’s classic The Brave Little Toaster and Mr. Ed. These films, as well as Heathcliff are planned to be mixtures of live action and CGI.

Now, today is the first time I’ve ever heard of this particular cat (who Garfield looks strangely similar to), but I hear from older fans that this is pretty big news. Heathcliff debuted in comic strip for, in the early 1970’s, and had a quite successful TV series that ended in 1988 (two years before I was born).

What do you think of the news? Are you excited? What if it ends up just like Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel?

Did you that Lego Batman had a movie coming out?

I didn’t, so it was a pleasant surprise today when the first trailer was released! The movie looks largely the same as last year’s Lego Batman 2 however, so for anyone that has played the game, I’m not sure how exciting the film will be.

In any case, I’m sure that kids and Batman fans that haven’t played the game will have a blast.

Check out the trailer below, and let us know what you think!

Warner Brothers Interactive just sent out some VERY cool news regarding the upcoming Scribblenauts Unlimited. If the game wasn’t already anticipated enough, this is going to make it a hell of a lot more so for Nintendo fans.

Exclusive to the Wii U version of the game, you’ll be able to summon characters and items from BOTH the Mario and Zelda franchises! I wonder if this means you’ll be able to mess around with these characters using the object editor!

Scribblenauts Unlimited is set to release with the Wii U on November 18th. The game will also be available for 3DS and PC (though without the Nintendo characters and items).

From the press release:

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announces that its highly anticipated Scribblenauts Unlimited game will feature even more than ever before, with Nintendo themed bonus content.  Players can summon dozens of their favorite characters and items from the Mario™ and Legend of Zelda™ franchises exclusively in the Wii U™ version of the game.

Players will delight in producing fantastical and sometimes hilarious interactions between the Mario and Legend of Zelda characters and objects, alongside everyone’s favorite word-wielding Scribblenauts adventurer, Maxwell. Discovered Nintendo characters and objects will behave in the fun and fantastical ways they do in their respective game worlds.

Looking forward to the game? I was extremely addicted to the earlier titles when they released, and will be sure to pick this one up at launch!

Whether you live in LA, or are just a fan of video games, you’ve likely heard the term Carmageddon. The former of course (I hear), is a crappy closure on a huge highway that TONS of people take daily. The latter was a well received (and highly controversial) racing game from 1997.  Here we’re talking about the one that sounds more fun.

You may have also heard news this past year that Carmageddon developer Stainless Games had plans to reboot the series. A successful Kickstarter was launched back in May, and the company will now be bringing a new vision of the series to modern machines. One of the cool bonuses for the crowd-funding going so well: an iOS port of the original title.

The game launched in the App Store (iTunes link to the game) just a couple of hours ago, and as a thank you to everyone who helped out, the game will be FREE for its first 24 hours of availability.

I never had an opportunity to play the game when it originally released (I was 7 and Mario Kart 64 was the only racing game I cared about), but from what I’ve read, the game is a rather faithful port of the 1997 title. Stainless Games did a fantastic job a supporting all of what iOS has to offer too: the game features full support for the newly released iPhone 5, will sync saves automatically via iCloud (THANK YOU), and more!

If you were a fan of the game, or are just looking for a neat piece of nostalgia (or want to see what all the bloody controversy that caused the game to be banned from many countries) was about! The price is right, and the port is excellent (though again, the game is from 1997, so feels rather clunky today).

I hadn’t heard of upcoming superhero comedy Alter Egos until today, but now that I’ve seen the trailer, it’s definitely on my radar. Comic-lover Kevin Smith apparently felt strongly about it too, as his own Smodcast Pictures is set to distribute the picture.

The plot sounds rather ridiculous: protagonist Brendan is shocked to discover that his girlfriend has been having an affair… with his own alter ego. At the same time, superheroes everywhere seem to be losing public support. Hilarity will ensue I’m sure, as Brendan deals with the repercussions of his alter ego’s actions.

Check out the trailer below, and let us know what you think! The very indie Alter Egos opens to a limited theatrical run on October 19th, and will hit VOD on November 20th.

Alter Egos takes place in a world in which superheroes have recently lost all government funding and public support. It centers on an underappreciated superhero who jeopardizes a dangerous mission with his own emotional crisis — his girlfriend is cheating on him with his alter ego.

CW’s Arrow has been in the headlines quite frequently recently. The show premiered last Wednesday to rather impressive numbers, and showed off a cool sizzle reel at last weekend’s New York Comic Con.

CW has to be aiming for the ladies with this latest ad (well, and most of the other ones). The new poster features a scantily clad Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) staring deeply into the camera. Dreamy right?

What were your thoughts on Arrow? Geekscape was rather mixed on the pilot: Molly felt as though the show missed the mark, while Shawn felt it wasn’t a bullseye, but wasn’t too far off. My thoughts fell somewhere in the middle. The show was intriguing enough for me to keep watching, but not strong enough for me to care (at this point anyways).

Check out the new poster below, and let us know your thoughts!

You can watch Arrow Wednesdays at 8 on The CW.

Remember Zod? He’s back! In toy form.

That’s right, Man of Steel baddie Zod has just has his big reveal, though likely not how Warner Brothers would have wanted. Two unfinished commercials depicting tie-in toys have been leaked online, and of course give us our first look at Zod, and an apparent robot army (I wonder if that will make it into the film).

Unfinished is a key word of course. These leaked ads are using footage from Superman Returns, and as these toys aren’t launching until Spring, there’s still a lot of time to flesh them out. Also, they’re toys, so it may not be an very accurate representation (I doubt the real Zod’s arms will be this stretchy)!

Check them out below! The first one doesn’t really look to have anything to do with the film, but look like pretty badass toys anyways.

Will you be picking up any of these?

It’s been nearly 25 years since the iconic Who Framed Roger Rabbit hit the big screen. It was an insanely impressive, wonderfully heartfelt comedy that blurred the lines between animation and reality.

Due to the insane popularity of the first film, sequel talk began almost instantly, but nothing concrete ever really came of it. What is known however (thanks Wikipedia!) is that the film actually looks to be a prequel. Who knows what the final screenplay will look like, but at one time the script revolved around Roger meeting his future wife, and his rise to fame and stardom.

Director Robert Zemeckis is of course doing the rounds for the upcoming drama Flight (which I hear is quite fantastic). In a quick interview with ShowBiz411, he iterated that while he’s sad about the unfortunate retiring of Bob Hoskins (sadly due to being diagnosed with Parkinsons), he’s ready to go with the prequel. “I have a script at Disney, and we’re just waiting for all the executive changes to settle down there,” Zemeckis stated in the interview.

Hopefully things settle down soon! Who doesn’t want another taste of that world?

We’re now just a couple weeks away from the launch of the highly anticipated Wreck-It Ralph, and Disney today has given us a look at another one of the worlds we’ll be visiting in the film!

Sugar Rush is a little Mario Kart and a lot of Candy Land. It’s also where Ralph will meet one of the films other main characters, Vanellope.

Watch the retro styled ad below, and get ready for Wreck-It Ralph on November 2nd!

Excited? I sure am!

“Walt Disney Animation Studios and Emmy-winning director Rich Moore (TV’s ‘The Simpsons,’ ‘Futurama’) take moviegoers on a hilarious, arcade-game-hopping journey in ‘Wreck-It Ralph.’ Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly, ‘Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby,’ ‘Step Brothers’) is tired of being overshadowed by Fix-It Felix (voice of Jack McBrayer, ’30 Rock’), the ‘good guy’ star of their game who always gets to save the day. But after decades doing the same thing andseeing all the glory go to Felix, Ralph decides he’s tired of playing the role of a bad guy. He takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a game-hopping journey across the arcade through every generation of video games to prove he’s got what it takes to be a hero.

On his quest, he meets the tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Jane Lynch, TV’s ‘Glee’) from the first-person action game Hero’s Duty. But it’s the feisty misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman, ‘The Sarah Silverman Program’) from the candy-coated cart racing game, Sugar Rush, whose world is threatened when Ralph accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens the entire arcade. Will Ralph realize his dream and save the day before it’s too late? ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ crashes onto the big screen on November 2, 2012, in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters.”

As most of you know, AMC’s popular adaptation of the ongoing Image series The Walking Dead premiered its third season last night.

I’m hearing pretty good things about the premiere. I gave up on the show partway through Season 2 (come on, admit how boring it was), but upon reading all the positive reviews may have to give the series another chance. Our writer Scott liked it, commenting via twitter that “The season premiere of The Walking Dead was better than the entirety of season 2”. Sounds pretty good to me.

AMC must be having some sort of celebration today, as the huge amount of viewers that tuned in to last night’s airing was just revealed. Over 10 million viewers tuned into the first showing, an over 50% increase from last season, as well as breaking the record for the most watched basic cable telecast ever.

From the press release:

Last night, AMC premiered season three of “The Walking Dead” and outdelivered cable and broadcast hits including “Hatfields & McCoys,” “Jersey Shore,” “Modern Family,” “The Big Bang Theory” and “The Voice.”

The 9pm ET premiere garnered 10.9 million viewers and a 7.4 HH rating making it the highest rated episode in series history, and growing more than 50% over last season’s premiere. The season 3 premiere now reigns as the biggest telecast for any drama series in basic cable history among all viewers. “The Walking Dead” encored at 10pm with 3.5 million viewers and midnight with 850,000 viewers delivering 15.2 million viewers for the night.

Looks like Zombie fever has never been stronger. Let’s hope they’ll all check out the Geekscape co-produced Doc of the Dead when it hits too!

Did you know that there was a Need For Speed movie in the works?

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Jesse Pinkman himself, Aaron Paul has just been attached to the project. Scott Waugh (Act of Valor) is set to direct the film, which starts production early next year.

Breaking Bad is almost over, so it’s no surprise that the Emmy winner is moving over to movies.  Need For Speed will of course compete with the Fast and the Furious series of films, though the addition of Aaron Paul might make me actually want to see this one.

Are you a fan of the games? Are you interesting in seeing it turn into a movie? What are your thoughts on Aaron Paul? Magnets?

Need For Speed is set to open February 7, 2014.

The final day of New York Comic Con 2012 is well underway, and CW had some highlights to show off from its hottest new show. Arrow premiered this past Wednesday to HUGE numbers: as we reported earlier this week, the pilot was CW’s most watch show in three years.

All is not perfect in Starling City however, due to their drastically different feelings on the pilot, we posted two separate reviews: Molly thought the show missed the mark, while Shawn felt as though it wasn’t far from it.

Whether you liked it or not, the teaser shows off some cool moments to come from Arrow‘s first season, albeit with a very CW feel. Check it out below, and let us know what you think!

Arrow airs Wednesdays at 8pm on The CW.

It felt like October would never arrive. Not that there’s anything particularly wrong with September: it’s typically a nice crisp end to those unbearably hot Summer nights. But October meant it would be time for another episode of Telltale’s The Walking Dead.

Telltale pulled another fast one on us. Just as with episode three, the release date was announced only a day before the episode was actually set to come out. As I mentioned after the date was revealed, I absolutely love that they’ve been doing this: when I saw the date, I said “OH SHIT” instead of “Oh Cool, just a few more weeks”.

In case you need a refresher, Geekscape is IN LOVE with this game (check out our reviews of the previous three episodes here, here, and here). Jonathan has called the Telltale series “the best iteration of The Walking Dead” on numerous occasions, and I’ve gone on to declare it my favorite piece of zombie fiction period. I’ve played a lot of games this year, but at this point The Walking Dead sits atop the pile as the best gaming experience I’ve had in 2012.

There are light spoilers ahead. If you’ve managed to listen to all of our praise without yet playing the game: first, what is wrong with you? Second, stop reading this and go play it unless you hate things that are awesome.

The end of Long Road Ahead (hopefully you’ve picked your jaw up off the floor by now) found our survivors arriving in the city of Savannah. The alone, broken soul that used to be Kenny is determined to find a boat in the river city to take himself and the rest of the group far away from the horrors that they’ve faced. Clementine has also been talking to a mysterious male on the radio, who can’t wait for her to get to the city.

The finale of ‘Long Road Ahead’ had me seriously worried for Clem’s safety

In playing the previous episodes, you likely know pretty much what to expect from this one: great writing, characters that you really care about, countless gruesome, disturbing moments, and a conclusion that will stick with you for days and leave you itching for more.

Clementine gets into danger very quickly in ‘Around Every Corner’

The episode begins with the group walking into Savannah on their mission to reach the river. Not even a few minutes after entering town, shit goes down and hordes of walkers shamble towards the location of the survivors. This forces  Lee and the others to break into a nearby house through some pretty disturbing means. The house becomes a makeshift base for the survivors, but they won’t stay a unified group for long: while some group members wish to leave in search of a boat, others want to stay to take care of the injured.

Just like in previous episodes, Around Every Corner does nearly everything very well. The game looks great as always, with its uniquely styled cel-shaded look. Voice acting is among the best in gaming: even with the distinct visuals, I found myself often forgetting that I was looking at something animated, the performances are simply that believable. The plot is strong, but at the same time does not seem as well paced as the previous episodes. This one also lasts a bit longer than past chapters, though I almost wish that it didn’t: I felt like certain scenes dragged on for longer than they needed to.

Clementine’s small stature makes her very useful in many situations.

I also came across a few technical issues that were not present in Long Road Ahead (though Starved for Help did contain some of them). Gameplay was often very choppy, with cuts between camera angles sometimes freezing the action for a second or two before buffering enough to continue. I also had an incident where a muzzle flash decided not to go away, and instead chose to light the remainder of the scene very awkwardly. Of course, neither of these are game breaking issues, but do add a high level of distraction to an otherwise extremely polished experience. Hopefully any issues present here will be resolved for the release of the finale, No Time Left. I played the PS3 version of the game, so I cannot vouch for whether or not these issues are present in other editions.

Just as with prior episodes, the best part of the Telltale version of The Walking Dead is the level of control that you feel. You are the leader of this group, you are responsible for everyones well being, and if anything happens, that’s on your head. I can’t think of any time in my many years of game playing where I have felt like this, or especially where I have cared about a group of characters as much as I do here. I swear Telltale, if No Time Left brings any harm to Clementine, there’ll be hell to pay.

I also love the very noticeable ways that the games characters have grown: Clementine has morphed from a scared little girl to a brave as hell, extremely useful member of the group, and Lee himself has adapted from a man, damaged and bitter from his past, to a father and leader. These are characters that feel human and real, and since you’ve been through so much together, it feels like you personally know them. I have never had this feeling, with any other game in history.

Lee finds himself alone and in trouble.

Around Every Corner definitely hits its high point with its conclusion. Unlike previous chapters (which felt much more resolved when the credits rolled), this one ends with a scream-at-your-TV cliffhanger just a few moments after a FREAKING MAJOR plot point.   I seriously have no idea what could possibly happen in the finale, and I both don’t want to find out (out of fear for my beloved characters) and cannot wait.

It had to be impossibly hard to follow the nearly perfect Long Road Ahead, and while not entirely successful, Telltale still gave us a great chapter here and a nice calm before the final storm. Overall, I feel like The Walking Dead: Episode 4 – Around Every Corner was probably the weakest episode of the game so far. Of course, when you’re talking about the weakest link of the best game of the year, it is still and incredible experience. In my opinion, it simply didn’t flow as flawlessly as previous episodes have, and the overall plot was not nearly as interesting as those that we’ve received in the past. That being said, the conclusion of the episode was quite possibly the strongest yet, with an insane cliffhanger that simply leaves you itching for more.

And itching I am. As much as I do not want this experience to end, I cannot wait for another taste.

The Walking Dead: Episode 4 – Around Every Corner scores a solid 4.5/5. I’ll say it again. Talltale’s The Walking Dead is the best game that I’ve played this year. I cannot wait for the finale, and I am insanely glad that we’ll be getting a second season.

Now Telltale, just keep Clementine safe. Or else.

Today NYCC attendees were treated to an exclusive teaser of the upcoming remake of The Evil Dead (titled simply Evil Dead). Since you’re not there and are instead reading the news online, all you get is this image (sorry)!

That little girl is clearly dead, and in all likelihood very evil as well, so it all fits right in with the film!

Evil Dead will hit theatres in Spring 2013!

Looking forward to this one?

Another huge day at NYCC, another HUGE announcement!

The Marvel Television Presents panel has just wrapped up, and in its conclusion dropped a huge bombshell. Jeph Loeb announced at the panel that fan-favourite Agent Coulson is in fact alive, and that Clark Gregg would be returning to the role for the SHIELD pilot.

Gregg of course has played Agent Coulson in many of the Phase One offerings, including Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, and The Avengers.

Writer/Director Joss Whedon also stated during the panel “There was never gonna be a SHIELD show without Agent Coulson,”

Gregg is also set to play Principal Coulson in the next season of Ultimate Spider-Man.

Excited? How upset were you when you thought he died? How will he even return!?

Update: As MTV Geek and others are now learning, it appears as though Gregg’s Agent Coulson is actually set to headline the S.H.I.E.L.D series!

As I stated in the title, this looks amazing and I cannot wait.

I hadn’t really looked too much into Marvel Heroes before today. The title had been in development hell for a number of years before being picked up by Gazillion Entertainment . This iteration is actually coming to fruition, and will feature a story penned by the wonderful Brian Michael Bendis.

NYCC was a pretty big day for the title, as a number of new playable characters were revealed, as well as a new trailer showing off some of the many features of the game. Newly announced characters include Nova, Luke Cage, and Jean Grey.

There is still no release date set, but the game already looks like a lot of fun. Amazingly enough, the full game will be entirely free to play (supported by micro transactions of course). The game will be PC only at first, but the developers confirmed via Twitter that a Mac release was also in the pipeline.

Watch the trailer below and let us know what you think! The game doesn’t have a release date yet, but there is currently a closed beta going on!

As we reported earlier this week, NBC’s cancelled Munsters reboot would be seeing its pilot air as a Halloween special. NBC later announce that the airing would take place on October 26th.

The network today released a teaser for the upcoming special, which was directed by Bryan Singer:

Are you looking forward to seeing the pilot? Sad that it won’t be a series? It definitely looks to retain the silly feel of the old Munsters!

Need a plot refresher? Here’s what the pilot will be about:

The pilot, written by Bryan Fuller and to be directed by Bryan Singer, is described as a reinvention of the 1960s sitcom about The Munsters, a family of “monsters” — vampires, werewolves and Frankenstein, and their “plain” cousin (Charity Wakefield) — that will feature striking visuals in the vein of Fuller’s ABC dramedy Pushing Daisies. O’Connell will play family patriarch, the handsome and gangly Herman Munster, a great dad and devoted husband. He is married to Lily, a vampire, with whom he has fathered a 10-year-old boy, Eddie (Mason Cook). Strong but sentimental, Herman works at a funeral home, and worries that Eddie’s transformation into a werewolf and burgeoning awareness of his family’s origins will crush the boy’s spirit.

As you must all know by now, Dan Slott’s upcoming Superior Spider-Man will have a new character donning the spider-suit. New, as in NOT Peter Parker.

This is causing a lot of controversy throughout the comic universe, which I believe is completely unfounded as not a single issue has been released as of yet.

Honestly I’m extremely excited. Superior is being labelled as a darker, more mature title, and who doesn’t want to see Spidey in that kind of world? Dan Slott has also done some fantastic work in his career, and I can’t wait to see what he does here.

CBM just revealed the cover for the second issue of the upcoming title, which depicts the still unknown new Spider-Man locking lips with a surprised looking Mary Jane.

Are you looking forward to the series? What do you think of this cover?

Fantastic news for all adventurers out there. Cartoon Network today announced the season 5 return of everyone’s favourite Human/Dog duo, and it’s coming a lot sooner than you might think!

MTV Geek reports that we’ll be getting even more awesome guests this season, including Community’s Donald Glover and the return of Prince Gumball himself, Neil Patrick Harris.

If you’ve never seen Adventure Time, it has to be one of the most absurdly hilarious shows around. It’s also enjoyable for both children and adults alike (maybe even more so for the older folk).

The premiere will be a two-parter, and will air on November 12th.

Well, I’m excited.

No info has been revealed, but TVLine has just revealed that the legal dramady has been signed for a 16 episode third season.

The first half of season two finished with quite the cliffhanger. The second half is set to premiere in January, and I couldn’t be more excited!

Not familiar with the show? You should check out the trailer below, and then fall in love with the series just as I have.

More cool news from NYCC – Jeff Lemire has a new limited series coming next year! As usual he’ll be writing and illustrating the title, which is Lemire’s first forray into Sci-Fi. Vertigo described it as “a mind bending Sci-Fi thriller about the end of the universe”.

From the Vertigo panel:

Arriving in 2013, Vertigo will publish TRILLIUM, a limited series written and illustrated by the incomparable Jeff Lemire (Sweet Tooth, Animal Man, Justice League Dark, Essex County Trilogy, Ghosts).

We asked Lemire to share some thoughts about the new series and here’s what he said: “As Sweet Tooth moved towards its conclusion earlier this year, I started to look ahead to what my next creator-owned project for DC/Vertigo could be. I pitched a number of ideas to editor Mark Doyle that I wasn’t totally happy with.  Finally he pushed me to leave my comfort zone, and get away from the genres and themes that I’d become known for.

Sci-Fi is something I’ve wanted to tackle for a while. I experimented a bit with it last year when I did the ULTRA THE MULTI-ALIEN short story for Vertigo’s STRANGE ADVENTURES anthology and enjoyed that project so much that I was eager to do more. I’ve also always wanted to do a really powerful, human love story. There have been so few love stories done really well in comics. Preacher and Blankets come to mind as recent successes, but in my mind, it’s still a difficult and rather unexplored genre in the comics medium. It seemed like just the kind of challenge Mark was pushing me to undertake. So, I combined these two interests along with my ongoing fascination with in World War 1, and turn of the century exploration, and the results are TRILLIUM.”
It’s the year 3797 and botanist Nika Temsmith is researching a species of strange plant-based life forms on a remote science station near the outermost rim of colonized space.

It’s the year 1921, and war-scarred explorer William Pike leads an expedition into the dense jungles of Peru in search of the fabled “Lost Temple of The Incas,” an elusive sanctuary said to have strange healing properties.

Two disparate souls separated by thousands of years and hundreds of millions of miles. Yet they will fall in love and, as a result, bring about the end of the universe. Even though reality is unraveling all around them, nothing can pull them apart. This isn’t just a love story, it’s the last love story ever told.

Lemire continued, “It will be my most ambitious creator-owned project and my most challenging. I think fans of my previous work will see traces of both SWEET TOOTH and THE UNDERWATER WELDER in its chemistry, but I really do want to push myself in new directions as well.

TRILLIUM is a mind-bending sci-fi thriller about the end of the universe. And, it’s a story about the dawn of human exploration and its natural conclusion thousands of years away. But most of all it’s a love story. And I can’t wait to share it with you.”

I’m in. How about you?

You read that right! This January, Dynamite entertainment is set to launch a pretty huge book in the Bionic franchise: Steve Austin and Jamie Sommers, as enemies!

Here’s the press release:

Coming from Dynamite in January 2013, in association with NBCUniversal Television Consumer Products, two classic icons will clash in The Bionic Man vs. The Bionic Woman #1! Written by Keith Champagne and featuring covers by Ardian Syaf, Sean Chen, Jonathan Lau, Jack Herbert, and drawn by Jose Luis, this series is not to be missed!

In The Bionic Man vs. The Bionic Woman #1, Steve Austin joins forces with the FBI to track down a mysterious, seemingly-bionic, serial killer. But when the Bionic Man disappears, only Jamie Sommers has a chance to find him. But if their paths cross, will it be as friends, lovers…or mortal enemies? Nothing will ever be the same!

“Growing up a huge fan of Steve Austin and now having such a strong admiration for the work Kevin Smith and Phil Hester have done to redefine the characters, I almost have to pinch myself that not only do I get to play in this world, but I get to tell THE Steve Austin/Jamie Sommers story I’ve carried with me all these years,” says writer Keith Champagne. “Expect plenty of twists and turns before it’s all over because I’m putting both Steve and Jamie through their bionic paces. Let’s see what they look like when or if they make it out to the other side.”

“Bionic fans have asked for The Bionic Man vs. The Bionic Woman from the get-go. But we wanted to wait till we shipped over a years worth of Bionic Man’s before releasing this. Now, prepare for ultimate bionic action!” – Dynamite President Nick Barrucci

Sounds good to me! It has been awhile since I’ve had any thoughts about Steve Austin (despite watching the show on VHS all through my childhood), but this book sounds freaking cool.

What do you think?

I’m a big fan of the [REC] series of films. I’d place the first film among my favourite horror movies, and it’s one of the few that truly was able to terrify me (oh man that ending). The second film was a cool sequel, in that it followed the first by only moments – you were looking at the aftermath of what happened, with the same characters and the same building.

[REC] 3 changed things up completely, and was almost unrecognizable as a part of the series: it dropped the setting and characters, dropped the found footage aspect, and was much more action oriented. A cool film, but I was itching to get back into that apartment. Looks like that’s exactly what we’ll be getting! [REC] 4: Apocalypse will return to the story of the first two, though without the found footage feel.

Check out the teaser below, and let us know if you’re excited! What do you think of the series so far? What about the American remake Quarantine?

Geekscape may be mixed on the show (check out Molly’s review here, and one from Shawn here), but it looks like ratings wise, The CW has a winner on their hands with Batman Arrow. Last nights pilot was their most watched show in three years.

From the press release:

Last night’s premiere of ARROW was right on target with the network’s goal of broadening out and bringing new viewers to the network – it drew 4.02 million viewers, the most watched telecast on the network of any show, on any night, in three years (11/12/2009).

ARROW was the most watched premiere on the network since THE VAMPIRE DIARIES (9/10/2009).

This was the most watched show in the Wednesday 8PM time period in more than three years (5/13/2009)

Versus last year’s premiere of H8R in the time period, it more than doubled its audience (4M vs. 1.3M) and was up 57% in A18-34 (1.1/4), and 117% in A18-49 (1.3/4)

The ARROW premiere also gave SUPERNATURAL a boost last night, it was SUPERNATURAL’s most watched episode (2.6M) since 10/15/10, and was its best A18-34 rating since 3/4/11 (1.0/3)

Last night was The CW’s best Wednesday night in total viewers (3.3M) in more than two years (5/12/10) and in two years in A18-34 (1.0/3, 12/10/10) and in A18-49 (1.2/10, 10/13/10)

ARROW tied NBC’s original comedies in the 8-9PM hour in total viewers (4M) and in A18-34 and A18-49.

Over four million viewers tuned in the see the birth of a CW-ized Oliver Queen. It will be interesting to see who sticks with it!

Missed the premiere but interested in checking it out? If you’re in the US, CW has made it available to watch online.

What did you think of the premiere? Planning to keep watching?

I’ve been rather torn on the Playstation Store for the past few years. On one hand, there’s some great content inside, and Playstation Plus is one of the best deals in gaming. On the other hand, you’re very unlikely to be able to find any of that content due to the way the store works.

an aged photo, but the store looks largely the same at this point.

There’s almost nothing featured on the front page in the current store. Searching is nearly useless, as when searching for a specific title, you’ll often have to sort through dozens and dozens of preview videos and add-on DLC before you’ll actually get what you’re looking for. Download management is non-existent, and the manner in which to download previous purchases is painstaking at best.

But in all that negativity, comes a positive: Sony has announced that the store is getting a redesign, and it will launch on October 23rd (or October 17th in Europe)!

Eurogamer states that the current tiled look is all but gone, instead replaced with a more elegant Metro styled interface. Instead of tiles leading to more tiles, leading to more tiles, selecting “Games” will lead you too a much easier to follow list of options. Filtering by price (!), genre, rating, and other options are also included.

That sorry excuse for a search menu is gone too, replaced with what is said to be a very usable replacement. Spelling mistakes and abbreviations are all okay, and the search is said to get smarter the more people use it.

The entire store is also HTML5, so it should be very fast, and very easy for Sony to update on their end!

It may be sad, but I’m excited. How about you?

Comic writer extraordinaire (and Eisner Award winner) Ed Brubaker is busting into a new form of media!

The multi-award winning scribe has just sold his first two television projects:

Rising Suns follows an American Yazuka boss fighting for his life and falling for the FBI agent who is hunting him. This one will come from 20th Century Fox, and Kyle Killen (creator of Awake and Double Life) will also serve as an executive producer.

NBC has also taken interest in a title from Brubaker. This one remains untitled, but will follow an agent-in-training as she erases all traces of the agent she is shadowing.

Of course, nothing more is known about these titles, but one from one-line synopses we have so far, they certainly sound interesting!

Will you be checking these out whenever they make it to the small screen?
