Vblank Entertainment has released a new trailer for Shakedown Hawaii, a sequel to their 2012 hit indie game Retro City Rampage. The game introduces a new 16 bit art style, destructible environments, and much more! Shakedown Hawaii is planning on launching on Steam, PS4, PSVita, and 3DS, but doesn’t have a solid release date yet.

Briefly: As I’ve likely expressed numerous times on the Geekscape Games podcast, aside from a few exceptions, fighting games are not generally my thing.

That said, Capcom has just debuted a 3+ minute CG trailer for Street Fighter V, and it’s probably the coolest look at the game that we’ve seen next.

All of the game’s participants appear in the video, and it does a fantastic job of… well, making me want to play Street Fighter V.

Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you think! Street Fighter V hits stores on February 16th!

Briefly: It seems like it was just yesterday that Bethesda revealed an exciting campaign trailer, along with the official release date for their upcoming, beyond anticipated shooter Doom (well, it was yesterday), and today the publisher debuted the game’s official box art.

Sadly, it might just be one of the most generic pieces of cover art that I’ve ever seen.

It’s unfortunate, as the game itself looks bad-ass, and is one of the first ‘pure’ FPS titles that I’ve been legitimately interested in in years.

You can take  a look at the box art below, and then I’d advise you to re-watch yesterday’s awesome trailer in order to remember what game it’s for, as ‘armored soldier holding gun’ seems to apply to more games than not these days.

Are you looking forward to Doom? Sound out below!

The HIGHLY anticipated sequel to DICE’s 2008 smash hit has just received it’s own story trailer.

Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst was first announced at E3 2013. It was met with uproarious praise from journalist and gamers a like. Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst is a sort of reboot/re-imagining of the first title. Players take up the role of Faith, a “runner” living in a dystopian future much like that you would find in yourself in while watching Total Recall or iRobot. “Runner’s” are parkour courier who race across the rooftops of the city, delivering contraband and illegal messages. The game features a first person freerunning mechanic that was quite well received.

Enough vamping, time to check out the incredible story trailer!

Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst comes out May 24th on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Interested gamers can sign up for a beta of the game on the official website. The beta has no announced release date as of this writing.

The latest release in the DOOM series is shaping up to be quite the entry in the legendary franchise.

With a huge emphasis on single player (a trait that we will be seeing a lot more of in FPS titles in the future), DOOM aims to bring us back to the games roots. Intense blood, intense gore and intense horror.

Today, Bethesda and ID Software released the incredible Campaign Trailer AND we got ourselves a release date! Check out the trailer below!

Get a closer look at the adrenaline-pumping, single-player campaign in the latest trailer for DOOM – the all-new FPS from id Software arriving worldwide on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on Friday, May 13th. As the iconic DOOM Marine, you wake to learn that the Union Aerospace Corporation’s facility on Mars has been decimated and overrun by hordes of demons. Humanity’s survival rests in your hands – and your hands alone. Fight Like Hell.

In DOOM’s campaign, there is no taking cover or stopping to regenerate health as you beat back Hell’s raging demon hordes. Combine your arsenal of futuristic and iconic guns, upgrades, movement and an advanced melee system to knock down, slash, stomp, crush, and blow apart demons in creative and violent ways.

This gamer cannot be happier with how this title is coming together!

You can get your hands on DOOM on May 13th! Get it on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Well it seems like the cat’s out of the bag.

Announced via Youtube ad, LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been prematurely been announced for PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PSVita, PS4, PS3, Wii U, and 3DS.

Not only did it start popping up on Youtube ad’s, but it also started popping up on the official Xbox Store and even Amazon (which has now been taken down.). On top of that, a listing also appeared for a special $70 PS4 & Xbox One Edition that includes an exclusive LEGO Finn Minifigure plus the game’s season pass. The PS4 version even includes an exclusive level & character pack.

The game is set to launch on June 28th. Check out the trailer Below! Are you excited for this game? Comment below and tell us!

Briefly: It’s finally happening.

After launching on Steam late last year and quickly becoming a top-seller, and shortly thereafter revealing that the title was headed to Sony’s Playstation 4 everywhere but North America, the game has officially been confirmed for a North American release.

We’re still awaiting an official release date, but the game will feature a huge 1080P/60FPS update, both Japanese and English audio, all of the game’s released DLC, as well as (for the first time) trophy support.

Valkyria Chronicles Remastered will launch this Spring, though a official release date has not yet been confirmed, and will cost a cool $29.99 US.

Even better, pre-order and launch copies of the physical edition come in a slick ‘Squad 7 Armored Case’, which you can take a look at below!

Valkyria

Not familiar? In the game, the year is 1935 E.C., and the continent of Europa has been plunged into the Second Europan War between the Autocratic East Europan Imperial Alliance — also known as The Empire — and the Atlantic Federation over the precious resource Ragnite. The Empire is sweeping through the continent like an unchecked wildfire and has its eyes set on the rich Ragnite deposits of the Principality of Gallia. Although peaceful Gallia remains neutral in the conflict, its citizens will need to defend home and country against the inevitable invasion. Players follow Lieutenant Welkin Gunther and the vaunted Squad 7 of the Gallian Militia as they take on the seemingly insurmountable forces of the Empire.

Valkyria Chronicles was one of the very best titles on the Playstation 3, so I’m beyond excited to replay it on the PS4 (well, if I can ever get through my backlog). Take a look at the Remastered trailer below, and be sure to let us know if you’re excited!

In a new update to backers that will shock no one, Comcept has revealed that Mighty No. 9 has been delayed yet again from it’s February 9th release.

It now has an unknown release date yet to be announced. Comcept revealed back in September that the game’s single player was finished, but not the multiplayer. This has caused a lot of backers to get frustrated with the project and suggest to the company to just release the game as it is now and patch in multiplayer later (which wouldn’t be a bad idea.).

Are you still excited for Mighty No. 9?

Considering that the long running Tales series of RPGs was once seen as being in danger of missing out on Western releases, we’ve sure been getting them like clockwork in recent years. Not that we’re complaining, since each of the recent releases from the Vita’s Tales of Hearts R, to late last year’s Tales Of Zestiria, and the Xillia series in between, have been solid titles in their own right. So to no one’s surprise, (but still to our excitement,) a new game in the franchise has been confirmed for the West!

Titled Tales Of Berseria, this time around, our lead is a pirate with a mysterious secret.  Seemingly part beast, her left arm transforms into a giant claw, leading to all the flashbacks and melodrama that comes with being an anime inspired heroine. What it also leads to is some really interesting battle footage, with attacks and combos that look much more exciting than most of the game’s predecessors. But why read about it when you can watch it yourself?

Not bad, right? Check out these additional screenshots below, and discuss your favorite Tales memories in the comments below! And as always, we’ll be sure to report back when more details on Berseria, as well as all of your other favorite games, become available.

In their own version of a Christmas, GalaxyTrail has just revealed a sequel to their wildly popular franchise Freedom Planet!  It seems not long ago that we wrote about the possibility of a 3DS port of the original, however, we are excited to hear that it’s getting a continuation!

While the trailer sets the baseline for their new story, information about the mechanics of their new game can be found at their website.  It already appears to have much of the Sonic-esque momentum based combat that we’ve all come to know and love from the first game.

The Freedom Planet franchise is about a spunky dragon girl and her friends who go up against a deadly alien force, and uses momentum based combat similar to the Sonic the Hedgehog games of the 16-bit era.  It was designed as a throwback to platformers of its style, but we believe this sequel will cement it as its own franchise, and step out of the shadows of the games of yesteryear!

Freedom Planet 2 will be available on PC and Wii U.

‘Super Mario Maker’ is in for another surprise update come December 22nd.

On top of finally getting a Bookmark feature for courses, the game will also be gaining new course items. These include bumpers, invisible p-switch doors, and a fire koopa clown car. On top of this, you’ll also be able to see who has the fastest time on a course, and who beat it first. Are you excited for this new update? What course elements would you like to see added? Comment below and check out the trailers below for a more in depth look.

Briefly: It may not be quite as cute as Yoshi’s Woolly World, but it’s pretty damned close.

We fell in love with Yarny back at E3, but EA has just debuted a brand new trailer for the game which 1. deepens said love for Yarny, and 2. gives us a freaking release date.

The trailer also gives us some insight onto Unravel‘s plot, which I can’t wait to untangle (ha) when the game launches.

Unravel will release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and as we’ve just learned, it’s just a few months away. The game is set to arrive on February 9th, 2016, so you’ll just have to watch the below trailer to get your fill of totes adorbs until then.

Take a look at the new trailer, and let us know if you’ll be picking this up!

Did you know that legendary game designer John Romero pitched a PC port of Mario to Nintendo?

This morning, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the popular DOS game ‘Commander Keen’, John Romero decided to look back through his archives and find an unreleased pitch to Nintendo for a PC port of ‘Super Mario Bros. 3’. It’s a very interesting thing to watch and imagine what could have happened if it was accepted. What do you think of the video? Do you think it would have been as good as it’s NES counterpart? Comment below!

11 Bit Studios’ This War of Mine was always a game that felt made for touch devices, so I was beyond ecstatic when the title officially released on iPad and Android tablets back in July.

This War of Mine is premium title (that bears a price tag to match) with a fantastic interface, incredibly gorgeous, stylized graphics, made-for-headphones audio, and a message that’s absolutely impossible to ignore. It’s a game that’s likely sucked up more time on my iPad than any other, and with it comes an experience that I’ll likely never forget.

If you’re unfamiliar with the title, “in This War Of Mine you do not play as an elite soldier, rather a group of civilians trying to survive in a besieged city; struggling with lack of food, medicine and constant danger from snipers and hostile scavengers. The game provides an experience of war seen from an entirely new angle.”

You really have no idea of the choices and despair you’re in for with this title, and even with that, I’d emlore you to give it a shot.

Today, This War of Mine became even more portable, as 11 Bit Studios’ latest update has added Universal support to the game. According to the update notes, this comes after a “massive amount of requests from you for the smartphone version,” and that the new version “has been created from scratch to work flawlessly on smaller touch-screen devices while keeping the same level of emotional engagement in stories about civilians in war.”

I’m actually a little scared to play this one on the go, as This War of Mine can be a tremedously depressing experience. In any case, I’m glad that the developer has listed to the requests, and has given players another device to play the celebrated title on.

You can take a look at the trailer for This War of Mine below, and you can pick it up on the App Store for $14.99 right here.

Already played the game? Are you an emotional wreck because of it? Be sure to let us know in the comments below!

Briefly: As much of a mess as last year’s Assassin’s Creed: Unity turned out to be, the just-released trailer for Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate… actually looks pretty cool.

I mean, none of the characters look to be losing their faces, or falling through the city, or <insert bug here>, so that’s already a marked improvement over last year’s game.

Plus, a London setting? Way cooler than last year.

In any case, you can take a look at the bloody launch trailer below, and let us know if you plan to give this year’s Assassin’s Creed a chance? Me? I’ve got about 100 games in my backlog right now, but I’m definitely itching for some of that parkour action.

You can also take a look at the ‘Gangs 101’ video below, in which director Scott Phillips takes us through the new gang and influence system in Syndicate.

Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate hits Xbox One, PS4, and PC tomorrow!

Well it’s about time. The incredibly fun to watch vignettes covering all the perks you can experience in Fallout 4 is coming to a close. We’ve had StrengthPerceptionEnduranceCharismaIntelligence, and Agility. Now it’s time for us to get Lucky!

It’s a bitter sweet moment now that this campaign is over. We’re sad that we don’t get to see anymore new videos coming out of Bethesda, but at the same time that means FALLOUT 4 is almost here!

Fallout 4 hits PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on November 10th!

The Jackbox Party Pack 2 is anything but an ordinary party game.  It’s an experience.

Releasing almost a year after the first one, The Jackbox Party Pack 2 is more of the same wacky humor you’ve come to expect, but with completely different games. So, is this the party of the year, or should you not bother with an RSVP? Just like my Rare Replay review, I’m not sure if I can do this game justice by giving it a regular review. That’s why I’ve decided to take a look at each of the 5 games separately and talk about what did and didn’t work.  Jackbox 2 opening

Fibbage 2:

Out of all five games in the original party pack, this is the only returning game to the sequel, but for a reason.  Fibbage 2 is still as charming and funny as it was when it debuted. For those who don’t know: Fibbage is a game where the players are given a true statement with a missing answer. The players, then, type in their own lies in hopes of the other players being fooled into thinking that it’s real. The updated sequel adds hundreds of new facts as well as a new DeFIBrillator which for one round can get rid of all lies but one, thus leaving you with only two choices. There’s really nothing bad to say about this game as it’s one of the best in the collection. Definite play if you’re picking the game up.Wed_Oct_14_20-48-14_PDT_2015

Quiplash XL:

Originally starting out as a small Kickstarter project earlier this March, Quiplash is another pre-existing game that has been updated for this new collection. This game tasks players with competing against each other to see who has a better response for the current on screen prompt. What do you NOT want to find in a burrito: A half-eaten turd or a dead rat? If there’s a downside to this it’d have to be that the game can end a little prematurely with only 3-4 people, so it’s best you play with at least 6-8 people. With 100’s of different questions and the ability to have over 1000 people playing at once, you’re in for one game you won’t forget anytime soon.Wed_Oct_14_20-50-19_PDT_2015

Bidiots:

Now we’re getting into the new games. Bidiots is a new drawing game that’s been stated to be the spiritual successor to one of the previous party pack titles, Drawful. In this game, you and your friends are a group of people at an art auction, and it’s your job to create and sell art for the auction in order to please your rich art clients. In-between rounds, you’ll get hints from your clients telling you what the prices on specific items are so you don’t end up over or under bidding on it.

You can also get free $1000 loans from the bank in order to ensure you have enough money to buy art pieces. Beware though, because at the end of the game you lose 1,500 points for each loan you take. Even though the game has some really good ideas and potential, the game ends up becoming a bit confusing at times with people not knowing what to do. While I do commend the team for trying something new with drawing games, it ultimately ends up being the weakest game of the pack. It’s good for a play every now and then, but not all the time.Wed_Oct_14_20-49-11_PDT_2015

Earwax:

I’m just going to say it right now in advance. Out of all the new games in this collection, Earwax is the game you’ll have the most fun with. Think Apples to Apples or Cards Against Humanity, but with sound effects instead. Each round, a judge is picked to determine a category, and afterwards, the rest of the players must choose 2 options from a list of 6 randomized sound effects. Once everyone’s done, Players get to vote on what they think was their favorite answer, but in the end it’s up to the judge to determine the winner. Sound effects are very varied and range from things such as an anvil dropping on someone’s head to a crying baby.

Not to mention Fart Noises.  Lots and lots of fart noises. If there was one problem with the game though, it’d have to be that you can’t preview the sounds you choose. So, the first couple of times you play it might be a guessing game to see how well some sounds interact with others. Although, I can see why they didn’t as that’d make the game too loud and give away your answers. All in all, this is a must play if you’re planning on buying this game.Wed_Oct_14_20-49-50_PDT_2015

Bomb Corp:

This game is just weird; like really weird. In Bomb Corp, you and up to 3 players are hired at a bomb defusing company. Your job is to defuse as many bombs as you can in one day (while also filing the occasional paperwork.) The only catch with these tasks are that depending on how many people are playing, instructions on how to complete the tasks are scattered throughout everyone’s devices using the game. The humor is spot on as most of the characters joke about how they can die at any moment while also talking about other nonsensical things during their break. If you want to take a serious shot at beating this, it’s best to play by yourself, but if you and all your friends are drunk or just want to yell at each other, this is another great party game to play together.Wed_Oct_14_20-54-49_PDT_2015

Overall:

Overall, The Jackbox Party Pack 2 is the most fun I’ve had with a party game since last year’s Jackbox Party Pack. The team really tried something new with these 5 games and didn’t want to just re-skin the 1st pack. While Bidiots feels like a slight misfire, other games like Earwax, Fibbage 2, and more make this collection even more memorable than its predecessor. If you haven’t picked up the game yet, I strongly suggest dropping $25 on both collections if you haven’t yet, because you’re going to be in for one hell of a family game night. The Jackbox Party Pack is Available now to Download on PS3, PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Amazon Fire TV.

Final Score: 5/5 BUY IT!!!

Briefly: They’ve already taken on StrengthPerceptionEnduranceCharisma, and Intelligence, and today Bethesda debuted part six of their fantastic and hilarious Do You Know What Makes You S.P.E.C.I.A.L. ad campaign for November’s release of Fallout 4.

This week’s S.P.E.C.I.A.L. video focuses on Agility. Study it carefully to ensure your survival and to discover what makes you S.P.E.C.I.A.L.!

Seriously, these videos have been an absolute blast thus far, and I really can’t wait to see the final video in the series (mostly because that means that Fallout 4 is SUPER close).

You can take a look at the Agility video below, and be sure to let us know how excited you are for the game! Fallout 4 hits PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on November 10th!

File this under “Odd Decisions”. EA has just confirmed on their Twitter that Star Wars Battlefront will NOT feature in game VOIP.

They go on to say that the only way you will have voice chat on consoles is if you use the built in party system on either the PS4 or Xbox One.

In previous “Battle” titles (BF4 and Hardline) there was in game VOIP on the PC versions of the games, though in all my hours of playing Battlefield 4 I only used squad chat ONCE. That’s not to say that it was an unused feature by some, but if it is something that DICE and EA saw little usage of, then cutting it from the features list makes sense.

What doesn’t make sense is the lack of inclusion on consoles. You have to have a premade party to be able to chat, which this particular geek thinks is absurd. Games like GTA Online and Metal Gear Online have built in team chat, so it not being added to Battlefront seems odd.

Battlefront, unlike other DICE titles, does not feature a squad function. Where multiple players join a five man group, where a squad leader can designate objectives as targets and is a mobile spawn point. They do have an option to have a “partner” but it is a max of two players, so if you run with two other buddies then someone is getting left out.

Is the lack of VOIP dissuading anyone from getting the game? Let us know!

This is the year of Back To The Future, and this is the month of Marty McFly’s adventure into the distance future! The folks over at Psyonix have teamed up with Universal to bring us the greatest time machine ever! Check out the quick teaser below.

https://youtu.be/MWTGyIwgvZw

The DeLorean Time Machine will be available for purchase on the legendary date, October 21st 2015. You can add it to your collection for a mere $1.99 or if you want more content, snag the Battle Cars DLC for $3.99 tomorrow!

Released last year in November, The Jackbox Party Pack was created as a way to bring back the somewhat dying tradition of having a group of people gather around to have a game night.

Not only were you able to play with friends and family around you, but you could also invite virtually anyone by having them play with their phones, tablets, and PC, making the game extremely easy to stream. As a result, the game ended up exploding in popularity (twitch specifically). Now, almost a year later, Jackbox Games invites you once more to gather (or kidnap) all your friends and family for another round of insanity. Old favorites such as Fibbage & Quiplash return while new games such as Bidiots, Earwax, and Bombcorp seem to take a different approach from what the previous pack offered.

And the best part? The game launches NEXT WEEK for Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Amazon Fire TV! In the meantime, mark your calendars and enjoy this delightfully quirky trailer for the game.

After 2 years of exclusivity, It seems like Sonic Lost World is jumping ship to PC later this year.

Announced earlier today on twitter, Sonic Lost World will be blasting its way to steam November 2nd. Its initial Wii U release garnered mixed reviews so it’ll be interesting to see if Sega improves or changes anything about the game. Even though this is a great chance for new people to try out the game, it seems like many Wii U owners are a little snake bit seeing as how the game was originally a Nintendo Exclusive. Hey, at least Nintendo owners still have a great exclusive Sonic game. Right?Sonic BoomUhhhhh, never mind. Anyone up for a round of Mario and Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics?

The last 24 hours have been interesting. Ubisoft started a mysterious live stream on their YouTube channel. A static shot of of some cave paintings, rhythmic chanting and the crackle of a fire. Then, the now suspended Twitter account for IGN Turkey let loose with the news that Far Cry Primal was the next in store for the franchise. Still, the live stream ran for almost 24 hours. And then we got ourselves THIS trailer.

The award-winning Far Cry franchise that stormed the tropics and the Himalayas now enters the original fight for humanity’s survival with its innovative open-world sandbox gameplay, bringing together massive beasts, breathtaking environments, and unpredictable savage encounters.

Welcome to the Stone Age, a time of extreme danger and limitless adventure, when giant mammoths and sabretooth tigers ruled the Earth, and humanity is at the bottom of the food chain. As the last survivor of your hunting group, you will learn to craft a deadly arsenal, fend off fierce predators, and outsmart enemy tribes to conquer the land of Oros and become the Apex Predator.

Key Features:

– RISE ABOVE EXTINCTION
You will play as Takkar, a seasoned hunter and the last surviving member of your group. You have one goal: survival in a world where you are the prey.

– STONE AGE BY FAR CRY
This isn’t the Stone Age you thought you knew. This is the Stone Age with irreverence and mayhem. This is the Stone Age by Far Cry.

– A WORLD RULED BY GIANT BEASTS
After the last Ice Age, the glaciers retreated to leave behind a land blooming with nature and resources where humans and animals alike can thrive – provided they have what it takes to prove their dominance.

This is an interesting departure from the previous three titles. The player is sent back in time, to ancient time. I definitely got vibes of The Forrest, Ark and other survival games in a similar ilk.

With Far Cry Primal and Horizon Zero Dawn, the hunting pack motif is going to be really strong in the next couple of years.

You can catch your own copy of Far Cry Primal February 23 2016 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Briefly: They’ve already taken on StrengthPerception, and Endurance, and today Bethesda debuted part four of their fantastic and hilarious Do You Know What Makes You S.P.E.C.I.A.L. ad campaign for November’s release of Fallout 4.

This week’s S.P.E.C.I.A.L. video focuses on Charisma. Study it carefully to ensure your survival and to discover what makes you S.P.E.C.I.A.L.!

Seriously, these videos have been an absolute blast so far, and I can’t wait to see the rest of them (mostly because that means that Fallout 4 is SUPER close).

You can take a look at the Charisma video below, and be sure to let us know how excited you are for the game! Fallout 4 hits PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on November 10th!

Following total atomic annihilation, the rebuilding of this great nation of ours may fall to you. That’s why Vault-Tec has prepared this educational video series for you to better understand the seven defining attributes that make you S.P.E.C.I.A.L.!

Awesome news for Xbox and PC owners.

Today, Project Spark announced that starting Monday October 5th, the game will be going completely free to play. This means that not only will you be able to download the game for free, but it also means that any previous DLC content that would previously require in game purchases will now also be free add-ons! This means that right out of the gate you can start creating to your hearts content.

Unfortunately, this does mean that since the game will no longer have an in game store, that there are no plans for future adventure or creation bundles after the update. Sadly, this means that fans eagerly awaiting a 2nd episode of Conker’s Big Reunion can sadly forget about seeing it.  If you’d like to find out more info on what this update entails, you can check out the full list of changes right here.  Will you be trying out Project Spark now that it’s completely free? What kind of games are you planning on creating?

Seriously, Bethesda. Just give us Fallout 4 right now, okay? Every day they seem to be releasing more and more tantalizing tid-bits of information to keep us gamers excited.

Today they released this short little video detailing the Character System in Fallout 4. The new perk system looks WAY better than it was in previous titles.

Fallout 4 hits store shelves November 10th on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Fallout 4 is getting closer and closer to our grubby little hands. Bethesda has us chomping at the bit with these awesome videos detailing all the different stats your character can have.
