Marvel Studios is currently searching for a female lead in the upcoming sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger. The New York Daily News is reporting that Marvel is looking at Anna Kendrick (50/50), Imogen Poots (Fright Night) and Felicity Jones (Like Crazy) for the female lead in the upcoming Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

So, what role will they filling? That is currently unknown but many are speculating that it could be S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Sharon Carter, the niece of Peggy Carter, who we saw played by Hayley Atwell in the first movie. Take this with a grain of salt though right now because as stated it is just speculation at the moment. All three are great choices but I have to lean towards either Anna Kendrick or Felicity Jones myself with Jones being my top choice after seeing her performance in Like Crazy. So, who would you want to see?

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is set to hit theaters April 4th, 2014.

Not only has The Hollywood Reporter learned who Marvel Studios desires to direct the highly-anticipated Guardians Of The Galaxy, but they have also found out some other names that they are considering for the film just in case their top choice doesn’t quite work out. It appears that James Gunn (Super) has beat out Peyton Reed, and the directing team of Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden as Marvel Studios top choice to direct the upcoming “space-epic” Guardians Of The Galaxy.

After a lengthy search, sources say that Marvel executives now are talking exclusively with Gunn, whose previous credits include the genre films Slither and Super. The studio is said not to have ruled out others in the running —  Peyton Reed (Bring It On, Yes Man) and Half Nelson helming team Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden were in the mix, according to sources — in case talks with Gunn’s reps do not lead to a deal.

It is also being said that James Gunn was chosen for his “sensibility and his ability to mix comedy elements with action and horror” which is something that he definitely shares with fellow director Joss Whedon. And we all know how well that one turned out. But if you’re unfamiliar with the director his credits include Dawn Of The Dead, Tromeo & Juliet, Slither, and Super.  Back in February of last year, James Gunn had expressed an interest in directing a superhero film involving superheroes that aren’t as he stated “the most popular in the world” and that he wanted to work on something with a bigger budget. Gunn even went on to reveal that he had been discussing a project with Marvel Studios. So, this definitely would fit what Gunn was looking to do. With a recent plot surfacing online you should probably expect some form of official announcement coming up soon. So, what do you think of this one? As usual sound of with your thoughts in the box below.

After his demise in Marvel’s The Avengers tons of speculation began floating around if we would see the return of fan-favorite Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) in the future. One of the most popular rumors was that maybe he could return as another fan-favorite character The Vision. Well, one fan over at TheRPF forums has sculpted out his “vision” for us to check out. And by my bad pun I definitely mean he made a sculpt of Clark Gregg as The Vision. There will be no more bad puns in this article I promise you.

So, what do you guys think? Would you like Clark Gregg to return as The Vision or would you prefer Agent Coulson to stay on the R.I.P. list?

So, besides the line-up and the release date there isn’t too much known so far about the upcoming “space epic” that is Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy. But it appears that a summary of the movie’s plot has made its way online. It’s On The Grid is reporting that the film will be about:

“A U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants.”

So, with a pretty legit site like It’s On the Grind reporting this it could just be true. Of course we will have to wait until we get some confirmation from Marvel on it. The U.S. pilot could be referring to Peter Quill aka Star-Lord or possible even Vance Astro aka Major Victory if they’re including him in the film as well. Personally I am leaning towards it being Star-Lord being that he’s already been announced and I don’t think Marvel will be cramming the team with TOO many characters. But like I said…we will just have to wait and see on this one.

Production has been delayed on Iron Man 3 following the injury of Robert Downey Jr. on set. Disney has released the following statement:

“While performing a stunt on the set of Iron Man 3, Robert Downey Jr. sustained an injury to his foot. There will be a short delay in production while he recuperates.”

No other information regarding the extent of Downey’s injury is known nor how long production will be delayed. Iron Man 3 has been filming since late May and is scheduled to be released May 3rd, 2013.

It’s now official, Avengers 2 WILL assemble once again on May 1st, 2015. This is the date fellow writer Shawn speculated last week! Can he see the future?!

Joss Whedon will write and direct the sequel to the massive success that is The Avengers.

The sequel will be the culmination of Marvel’s ‘Phase Two’ films that begins with Iron Man 3 on May 3, 2013. That will be followed by Thor: The Dark World (November 8th, 3013), Captain America: The Winter Solider (April 4th, 2014), Guardians of The Galaxy (August 1st, 2014). With news breaking that Fox is going to let Daredevil’s rights revert back to Marvel director Joe Carnahan has decided to let us check out the sizzle reels that he used to present his vision to the studio of what his film would’ve been like. The reels are comprised of  footage from other movies and some comics art, and man does it look like we may have actually been getting an awesome Daredevil movie. Watching these kinds of makes me sad that Fox is letting go of the rights.

Source: IGN

In a follow up to yesterday’s piece it’s appearing that Fox is just giving up on the Daredevil reboot and allowing the rights to revert back to Marvel. This project has been in the works for awhile now but just kept hitting road bump after road bump. Following his tweets yesterday director Joe Carnahan (The Grey) clarified a bit on what his tweets meant today.

Guys. To clarify. DD pitch was tremendous and everyone flipped for it. The clock ticked down at Fox, that’s why it went tits up.

I will post the piece we did since it should be seen be all now…then you guys decide.

With less than two months before they had to get a movie into production before losing the rights it was pretty apparent that this would end up happening. However, I was quite interested in seeing what Carnahan had in mind after reading about it. It actually sounded like it would be a good movie. Well, he could always pitch the idea to Marvel and see if they want to go with it and give him a chance. However, the problem with that right there is that Marvel has a pretty big stable of characters and films planned already meaning that it doesn’t necessarily mean that we will see the man without fear on the big screen anytime soon.

Last week reports hit the internet that there would be an exchange between Fox and Marvel Studios to allow Fox time to get their planned Daredevil reboot into production. Then reports came in that Fox would rather lose the rights to the character than give up the characters that Marvel was asking for. Well, it’s not looking too good for the movie in general because in order to hold on to the rights they need to get it into production by October 10th. Earlier today director Joe Carnahan (The Grey) who was set to direct the upcoming reboot made some very discouraging tweets about the project.

Think my idea for a certain retro, red-suited, Serpico-styled superhero went up in smoke today kids.

We shall see. Time is NOT on anyone’s side.

This could either mean one of two things. Either Fox is giving up the rights on Daredevil and letting them revert back to Marvel or  they are going to go with another filmmaker who could get this movie going faster than Carnahan. Either way it doesn’t look good for the man without fear right now. We’ll be sure to keep you updated.

Pretty much right after the news broke that Joss Whedon will be helming and scripting the highly anticipated re-assembly of Marvel’s The Avengers, Marvel Studios issued a statement detailing his contract. In doing this they just may have revealed when we will see the team assemble next. And apparently an “insider” at MTV News backs this up:

“Marvel has a very set agenda of what they want to do, they are already kind of ahead of the game [on the sequel] because they’ve got the guy that did it before doing it again and something tells me Joss already has the template [for the film],” an inside source told MTV News. “In terms of the time frame, I think that it is well in the works. … It looks like the release date might be May 1, 2015, but that can change depending on people’s schedules.”

I mean if you look at the studios upcoming slate of movies, the 1st of May in 2015 seems a pretty damn obvious, especially considering Whedon’s contract and “creative contribution” ends in June of 2015. It would also follow Marvel Studios trend of releasing their big films towards the start of May just like they did with Iron Man, Iron Man 2 (which was the last week of April), The Avengers AND the upcoming Iron Man 3.

So aside from the uber awesome geektastic news that Joss Whedon is returning for Avengers 2, Disney also released the news that Whedon would be helping to develop a live action television series for Disney/ABC set in the Marvel Studios Movie-verse. Considering Whedon’s fairly awesome track record with producing quality genre shows, this is just about as good of news as the Avengers 2 announcement, at least to this geek. While Whedon would probably be too busy to be day to day on a new series, and do much apart from help develop it and (maybe) direct the pilot, no doubt his stamp would be felt on the show due to the writing staff he would bring in, as well as other considerations.

So that begs the question….just what Marvel characters would be ripe for exploitation on the small screen? You can forget about any of the Marvel A-listers, and even some of the B-listers like Iron Fist and Black Panther who have potential movies in development. The following are characters/concepts that are not only very unlikely to ever get their own movies, but are right within Joss Whedon’s wheelhouse as a writer and producer.

#5. Avengers Academy

No one does ensemble shows quite like Joss Whedon, and no one does shows about teenagers and younger people with special abilities taking on adult responsibilities better than Whedon either. Now that the Avengers has been established, how about a series where future wanna be heroes can train to be big time Avengers one day? The show can just use the title of the current comic as simply a jumping off point, and the characters from the current comics aren’t neccessarily needed. If he wanted, Joss can just do teenage or early twentysomething versions of some of his favorite B- list Marvel heroes, the kind that you know would never make it into a proper Avengers movie. Maybe take some Avengers no one cares about (I’m lookin at you, Sersi and Quasar) and just run with ’em. The one drawback to this concept is that Disney/Marvel might not want to oversaturate the name/concept of Avengers and make it seem less special by using it in a weekly televsion show. But if anyone can make it happen, it would be Joss Whedon.

#4. S.H.I.E.L.D

I would say that S.H.I.E.L.D is the obvious choice for an ongoing live action television series set in the Marvel movie universe, due to the fact that the covert agency played a part in all the films since the first Iron Man. In fact, it may be a little too obvious, which is why it is closer to the bottom of this list. But still….a S.H.I.E.L.D series would be like a lot like Alias or Mission Impossible, but set in a world where there are super heroes and villains in it, as well as magic and aliens as well. The most recent comic book version of S.H.I.E.L.D has the entire concept of the organization going back hundreds of years to the time of Leonardo da Vinci, and that might make for an interesting series that could span several seasons if done right.

#3. Spider-Woman

There is almost no one out there, especially no one with a Y chromosome anyway, that can write realistic and nuanced female action heroes quite like Joss Whedon. Obviously Buffy the Vampire Slayer is the most famous example, but also Black Widow in the Avengers would have just been “the hot chick” in the group under someone else’s direction, but under Whedon’s auspices she was maybe the most interesting and nuanced character on the team.

Which is why I think that Spider-Woman could be the perfect choice for a Whedon helmed series. As a character, Jessica Drew is damaged and with a strange past that she can’t make heads or tails of (think Dollhouse, only better) and she has a unique origin story to boot. On top of all that, the character has serious ties to S.H.I.E.L.D and Nick Fury (sweeps week cameo from Sam Jackson!) Because Jessica Drew isn’t as famous as other Marvel heroes, her supporting cast and roster of villains are more of an open book for Whedon to play without pissing off a huge fanbase of angry geeks. Lastly, she has a visually striking costume and overall look, and it’s time that television gave us a super hero who wore a costume and made it work, and didn’t shy away from that aspect like Smallville did for ten years.

#2. Damage Control

Originally created by the late, great Dwayne McDuffie as kind of as a sitcom set in the Marvel Universe, Damage Control is the company that cleans up the massive city wide damage done whenever super heroes battle super villains. I mean, somebody has gotta clean that shit up, right? First appearing in a series of mini series in the late 80’s and early 90’s, the characters kept popping back up in the Marvel Universe over the years, usually during some big event like Civil War that has a lot of collateral damage done to poor old Manhattan. The company has ties to both Tony Stark and S.H.I.E.L.D, which makes them fit in perfectly in the Marvel Movie verse. The lighter, jokier tone would fit in perfect with Joss Whedon’s sensibilities as well, and the fact that not many people are familiar with the comic means they have all but a blank slate to use; they can use the name and concept but create all new characters. This one is a bit of a no brainer.

#1.She-Hulk

Ok, I’d say it is pretty well established among geekdom how good Whedon is with strong female characters. Well, Marvel has one of the strongest female heroes out there already with Jennifer Walters, otherwise known as the Sensational She Hulk. For the last few decades, Bruce Banner’s less angry cousin the She-Hulk has been played as a quippy, off the cuff character by creators from John Byrne to Peter David and most recently Dan Slott. Jennifer Walters in the comics is a gamma powered lawyer who deals in court cases that deal strictly with super heroes and super villains and other strange phenomenon. Whedon kind of already has experience with the idea of lawyers who only handle otherworldly cases on his show Angel, which frequently featured the demonic law firm of Wolfram & Hart. Plus, She-Hulk by her very nature ties into the Hulk, who already stole the show in the Avengers movie and is a much beloved character. I know that Marvel Studios and Guillermo del Toro are planning an Incredible Hulk tv reboot, but I think this is an even better idea. Not to mention, getting a tall built actress and painting her green is a lot easier and cheaper than a CGI monster week in and week out.

Things are about to get interesting when it comes to the Marvel/Twentieth Century Fox deal. Fox had until October 10th of this year to start work on a reboot of Daredevil, or the rights would revert back to Marvel Studios. But their director of choice David Slade didn’t pan out, and there was no way production on Daredevil could have begun by the October end date.

But according to Variety, Marvel Studios is willing to give Fox and extension on the Daredevil property, if Fox relenquishes rights to two characters from the Fantastic Four universe: Galactus and the Silver Surfer. (ain’t nothin’ free folks) Fox would really like to keep the Daredevil franchise, as they are  in discussions with Joe Carnahan (Smokin’ Aces, The Grey) to direct what is said to be a  “Frank Miller-esque, hardcore 70s thriller” take on Daredevil. Carnahan has yet to receive an official offer, though multiple sources are telling Variety that he is the choice.

Fox is said to want a grittier, less family friendly take on Daredevil, something Disney would be less likely to do. Maybe this will all work out for the best?

If Marvel/Disney gets the rights to Galactus/Silver Surfer back, not only does that mean we’d get a proper version of the world devourer on screen (and not a stupid giant cloud like in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer) but it would likely be in an Avengers sequel. And how awesome would that be?? And the addition of the Silver Surfer to the Marvel Studios cast means we could one day see a proper version of The Defenders on screen as well. This could all be good news.

If the Silver Surfer ends up back at Marvel Studios, that means all the main Defenders characters will be free to use if they ever want to do that franchise.

UPDATE:

So, maybe there wasn’t as much to this story as we thought. According to Deadline, Reports that Fox and Marvel Studios are going to do some trading with its Fantastic Four franchise to keep Daredevil in the fold were being adamantly denied by Fox studio insiders. With Fantastic Four being rebooted with Josh Trank as director, the article states that Fox insiders think it would be crazy to let two major FF characters go to Disney, especially when the studio is said to be very lukewarm about rebooting Daredevil.  Although Joe Carnahan has come to the studio with a take, it sounds like Fox is ready to let it revert to Disney-owned Marvel, unless Disney is interested in co-financing. That is what the current talks are really about, insiders said told Deadline. I’m sure this isn’t the last we’ve heard of this story.

Following yesterdays big news that Christopher Eccelston (Dr. Who, GI Joe: The Rise Of Cobra) would be playing Malekith The Accursed in Thor: The Dark World the actor has briefly commented on the upcoming project.

“’Thor 2′? Yeah I start shooting in August. I haven’t seen a script yet which makes me nervous but yeah! Alan Taylor is directing who has done ‘Game of Thrones’ so it should be good.”

Exploring Thor’s relationship with the Asgardian all-father Odin, as well earthbound companion Jane Foster, “Thor: The Dark World” follows the God of Thunder to The Nine Realms beyond Asgard and earth. And as his evil half-brother, Loki, returns for Asgardian justice, a new threat rises. Also rejoining Thor are his fellow Asgardians, Lady Sif, gatekeeper Heimdall and Warriors Three, as they encounter mythical Norse creatures among evildoers.

Thor: The Dark World is set for release on November 8, 2013.

A few weeks ago, we speculated as to who the villains might be in Thor: The Dark World. Well guess what, we were right! Thor will indeed face off against Malekith The Accursed and his Dark Elves of Svartalfheim.

Deadline is reporting that Christopher Eccleston (the ninth Dr. Who and Destro in GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra) has been cast as Malekith The Accursed. Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, and Anthony Hopkins are all set to reprise their roles from the first film and Zachary Levi has also joined the cast The sequel begins filming Thursday in the UK and is set for release Nov. 15, 2013.

By now we have all heard about the test footage for Ant-Man that was shown at this years San Diego Comic-Con and I have been talking about this movie quite a bit in the recent months. A few weeks ago I reported that Simon Pegg had tweeted that “Edgar Wright will shoot Ant-Man next year”. And now it seems that news has been confirmed. From what I have been hearing and reading around, Marvel is going to be aiming to have Ant-Man step into Marvel’s London production branch as soon as principal photography on Thor: The Dark World wraps.

There has been a rumor for quite some time that Marvel was aiming to adding a third in-continuity film during their “Phase Two” and this would totally make sense. I mean the buzz alone on Ant-Man after Comic-Con has been ridiculous. If this all pans out expect Ant-Man to begin production around late spring/early summer 2013.

Apparently a recent casting call has gone out revealing that producers are looking for extras that are particular experts with fire. Could this possibly mean in the sequel we may see Thor and company exploring Muspelheim, the realm of eternal fire, home of the fire demons and their ruler Surtur?

It’s not entirely unlikely being that he was featured in the video game for the original movie. Maybe we will Thor travelling across the different dimensions? Maybe not. This is entirely speculation right now but would this be something you would want to see?

One of the most anticipated movies in Marvel’s “Phase Two” is Captain America: The Winter Soldier. When announced at San Diego Comic-Con fans nearly lost it. Hell..even Ed Brubaker lost it and even tweeted “HOLY SHIT” when he found out about it. The Huffington Post recently sat down with Anthony Russo, one half of the directing team behind the sequel, and had a little chat about the movie. Below are some of the highlights of the interview.

When asked what they thought landed them such a big project:

Well, first of all, Marvel’s this incredible company that has shown in the past that they think outside the box with directors. I mean, it’s shocking the people they’ve hired, over and over again, and they’ve had great success as a result. They like character, and they like storytelling and they like fun. We were surprised, but they were big fans of “Community” and you can sort of draw a line between some things we did on “Community” and a Marvel movie.

How they sold themselves to get the job directing the sequel:

We were comic book geeks from a young age and big fantasy geeks. We got to talk to them in detail about that history. They knew that we understood the brand really well and the characters really well. It was a long process, actually, of talking to them over and over again, through a series of meetings over a long period of time. And I think they just — we were really passionate about the movie, incredibly passionate about the movie. They felt that, and they felt like it was the right match.

In regards to what appealed to them about Ed Brubaker’s “Winter Soldier” story:

Well, we like the [story.] I can’t talk too much about specifics, that’s the way Marvel handles things. I can say in general that there’s sort of a darker, edgier sensibility at work there that we found appealing, and that is going find its way into Captain [America] in the modern day.

When asked if we would possibly be seeing World War II flashbacks:

Certainly Cap has this complicated history. We’re making the movie for first-time viewers, not just for fans, so, because Cap does have this complicated history — he was this skinny guy who became a super-soldier, he was born back then and he’s living [now] — in the storytelling, you need to convey that to an audience who doesn’t know Cap’s story.

When asked if the expected heavy visual effects were intimidating to them:

They said to us early on in the interview process, “We don’t expect you to know anything [about special effects and so forth] — you don’t have to know everything about this stuff, because we’re here for that.” They’re very respectful of directors. They’re an amazing company to work with.

In regards to if any of the comic creators were involved and have offered advice:

We’re actually going to have lunch with Brubaker soon. But no, they haven’t been involved. In the same way that they would develop a new comic-book series, they give its own space to develop. But certainly everybody is aware [of what’s in the comics], has read everything, is aware of all their other material. But they do like each thing to be its own, organic process, which is nice.

So, if you haven’t seen the new suit that Tony Stark will be donning in Iron Man 3 by now…you may be a bit behind. However we have some new concept art featuring the suit in action for you to check out. The suit looks fantastic on screen from the footage that I have seen.

Described as a “technological crisis thriller,” set in the world of international war, arms & terror, Marvel Studios’ “Iron Man 3” stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Andy Lau, Ashley Hamilton, James Badge Dale, with Sir Ben Kingsley and Jon Favreau. Shane Black (“Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”) takes over directorial duties from Jon Favreau, who helmed the first two “Iron Man” films. Principal photography will occur primarily in North Carolina and China. And “Iron Man 3” is set for release in May 3, 2013.

Source: Stark Industries

Now while none of this has been confirmed we have news that Thor may be going head to head wituh dark elves in his upcoming sequel. During a recent interview James Grogan revealed that stuntmen working on the next film are training to be elves.

“The other day for example, this is quite random but I was working on Thor 2,” he explains, “I had a load of stunt guys in and the director came in and he said ‘Look, we want you all to be elves,’ and I was like ‘What the hell is an elf anyway?’ and he said ‘I want you all to walk around like these supernatural animals,’ honestly it was the most ridiculous thing ever but you just have to not be self aware and get on with it.”

Now while this isn’t confirmation that these are the villains with a title such as The Dark World it could be entirely likely. And if so that means we would be seeing Thor go head to head with Malekith The Accursed who rules over The Dark Elves. But as stated above this has not been confirmed yet. Keep checking back for updates.

Marvel Studios ‘Phase Two’ is coming and some of you may be unfamiliar with what is coming so we are here to help. First off we are going to start with…

Ant-Man (TBA)

There have actually been three different men to wear the Ant Helmet. The first and most famous is Hank Pym, a brilliant scientist that discovers a form of subatomic particles that he dubs “Pym particles.” These particles allow him to shrink down to microscopic levels. After exploring his surroundings as a pint-sized adventurer, he develops a hi-tech helmet that allows him to telepathically control all ants. Eventually, Pym realizes that his particles work the other way too, and he assumes a second superhero identity: Giant-Man. So in case anyone was still not taking him seriously, he’s now got the ability to squash them.

The second Ant-Man is Scott Lang, a single father who works as an electronics expert under Tony Stark. When his daughter gets seriously ill and the only doctor who can save her is kidnapped…Lang has no choice but to steal Pym’s Ant-Man tech and rescue the doctor himself. Pym is so impressed by by Lang’s skills that instead of having him arrested, he allows Lang to continue being Ant-Man.

The third Ant-Man, Eric O’Grady, is known as “The Irredeemable Ant-Man”. He is a low-level S.H.I.E.L.D. employee that steals an Ant-Man suit and proceeds to do nothing with it beside leering on women in the shower and stopping crime in exchange for cash and girls numbers. The Avengers eventually catch on to his act and begrudgingly try to whip him into shape.

From the test footage the suit is very much along the lines of the Eric O’Grady suit but we will most likely get Hank Pym as far as the character…even though O’Grady could possibly be the funnier one here. Apparently the film will be involving Ant-Man’s “echo time locator”. Which sadly is something I don’t actually know much about. While the movie does not have a release date it has been reported to start filming next year.

Check back next for the next ‘An Introduction To Marvel Studios Phase Two’ focusing on The Winter Soldier.

While there has been no confirmation on who he will play it has been reported that actor Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker) is in negotiations to join the cast of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Everyone is going to say it and we are going to say they may just be right. But keep in mind that I am saying they might be, not that they are. The Hollywood Reporter believes Mackie may be playing the role of ‘The Falcon’.

While Marvel would not comment nor divulge character details, it is believed that Mackie will portray the Falcon, one of mainstream comics’ first black superheroes and perhaps its first American one.

While this could be entirely true I am not going to place my bets on that one yet. Mackie may just be playing a supporting role. If anything he could just be playing a descendent of Gabe Jones who was played by Derek Luke in Captain America: The First Avenger. Only time will tell my friends!

Saturday is the big day for Hall H every year. It’s the day when the big guns come out and if you missed Hall H this year…you missed out on the best Hall H in years.

So, the panel started with Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’ and the 8 minutes of footage was just as good as what we had already seen. Following that we got to check out footage from ‘End Of Watch’ and ‘Silent Hill: Revelations’ which both looked great.

So let’s get into what you all want to know.

Legendary and Warner Bros. brought it. If you’re read the trending “#holyshit” in regards to ‘Pacific Rim’ that is honestly the best way to describe it. The footage looked amazing and unless someone bootlegged it you will not see this footage any time soon. They are going silent on it but when you do see it…be prepared to be amazed.

Following this we got a teaser trailer that made about 6,000 people lose their shit as soon as they heard that trademark Godzilla scream. The teaser was great and the fact that they will be taking a realistic approach to the movie make it seem like this one is going to be fantastic.

‘Man Of Steel’. What can I say about this? It brought fans to tears. This movie is Superman’s version of ‘Batman Begins’. I don’t even like Superman and I got choked up watching this. There were actually quite a few fans that went up to ask questions with tears of joy in their eyes. It looks phenomenal and Cavill looks perfect as Superman/Clark Kent. I don’t believe you will see the full footage that we saw but I can now confirm you will be getting a teaser trailer attached to ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ next week. Get excited.

‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ aka the panel that had more screaming fans than any. They showed 13 minutes of footage here and if you’ve been hearing anything negative about him shooting at 48 frames per second…have no worries. The film looks beautiful and will either live up to or surpass the ring trilogy. We did not get to see Smaug but we did get treated to some great scenes including one involving Gollum and Bilbo. Ring fans…you will not be let down.

So on to the next big gun aka Marvel Studios. Let’s just say I batted 100 here with this one. We had a special appearance by Edgar Wright where he showed us the ‘Ant-Man’ test footage and it looked so fucking good. The suit was definitely a mix between Pym and Eric O’Grady’s and will translate really well.

Following that we got two title announcements. ‘Thor: The Dark World’ and ‘Captain America: The Winter Solider’. You read that right fans…lose your fucking mind because we will see what you wanted since day one.

Remember when I told you that Guardians Of The Galaxy are coming to the big screen? Guess what…they are. We were shown some concept art that you see above and given our first look at the team that consists of Rocket Raccoon, Star-Lord, Drax, Groot and Gamora.

Marvel then brought out the cast and director of ‘Iron Man 3’ who brought with them some footage of  a few scenes including a teaser trailer that is going to make Marvel fans lose their fucking minds. We got a first look at Tony trying out his new suit with the extremis tech. The biggest “holy fucking shit” moment of the teaser? Let’s just say the crowd went wild seeing a certain Ben Kingsley as the Mandarin. And yes…he had the rings on.

Check back tomorrow because I may do a more detailed podcast where I can get more into it.

A few of us Geekscapists had the chance to see an advance screening of Marvel’s latest one-shot ‘Item 47’. ‘Item 47’ will be released as a bonus feature on the home release for ‘The Avengers’.

We got a special introduction by a certain Robert Downey Jr. himself. Well, not himself but a video of him sitting on the toilet congratulating fans that had completed a scavenger hunt gaining them access to the screening while he dropped “a water moccasin”. The short revolves around Bennie and Claire (Jesse Bradford and Lizzy Caplan), a down on their luck couple who come across a Chitauri weapon left behind in the rubble of the aftermath of “the battle of New York”. It also features Agent Sitwell, previously seen in ‘Marvel One-Shot: The Consultant’, ‘Thor’ and ‘The Avengers’.

If you’re a fan of Marvel’s previous One-Shots you will definitely enjoy this one. The previous One-Shots averaged around five minutes while this one came in around twelve minutes. The one-shot was directed by Marvel co-president Louis D’Esposito, who was in attendance with the cast as well as the writer behind it. Kevin Feige was also in attendance a few feet from us but not answering any questions. You could definitely tell that everyone had a great time making it and the fans really enjoyed it. I can definitely say us over here at Geekscape in attendance really enjoyed it and can’t wait for you all to see it.

This screening just shows how much Marvel cares about their fans and realizes that they are the ones that make these movies possible. I really hope they continue with these One-shots and even expand upon them making an even larger Marvel universe for us all to enjoy.

‘The Avengers’ will be available to assemble in  your home on September 25th.

Scott Alminiana and myself had the chance to catch an advance screening of the Marvel short ‘Item 47’ tonight that was followed by a q&a.

While they could not say much a few questions definitely gave us an idea of what we are in store for tomorrow at the Marvel Studios panel. The most exciting of these being the following. A question was tossed out asking if we would be seeing Ant-Man or The Wasp in an upcoming Avengers movie to which the people from Marvel studios replied.

You may want to be in Hall H tomorrow because you may get an announcement. Or you may not.

And having sat in through numerous q&a’s I could tell you that the tone that it was answered in basically was saying “You’re getting that one tomorrow”

Not too long ago we reported that ‘Chuck’ star Zachary Levi may be joining ‘Thor 2’ as Fandral. Levi was originally up for the role in 2010 but had to back out due to a third season of ‘Chuck’.

Recently Levi spoke with the Huffington Post about the talks on the internet of him replacing Joshua Dallas who would not be returning.

“There was quite a lot of rumbling that went on,” Levi laughed. “That all of a sudden popped up. I was in Japan at the time and I was on Twitter and people started Tweeting me that Josh Dallas had to back out of the film and they were saying, “Oh opening! Opening!” And I think maybe my fans knew that I had to back out of Fandral back in the day, then they started this whole stuff about me in the movie.”

“I can’t really comment on that at the moment, but I would be honored to be in that movie. I would be crazy honored to be in that movie. It would be this very amazing kind of kismet, serendipitous, roundabout way of being about to play the role as well. I have no intention of not acting. I’m constantly going for the roles that I can get & that I’m passionate about. It’s kind of 1 hand feeding the other. I think the more I can succeed in my acting career, the more exposure that gives to myself […]. So I’m fully trying to do that.”

With ‘Thor 2’ getting ready to go into production he may just be biting his tongue until the possibility of an announcement at Marvel Studios Comic-Con panel on Saturday in Hall H. I’ll be making a giant update Saturday night full of all the juicy details of Hall H unless somehow I get eaten by a frost giant while in line. For Asgard!

UPDATE: While it was just yesterday that he was unable to discuss the matter, Levi proudly confirmed on the Tonight Show he will be playing Fandral and appearing at Comic-Con this weekend to promote. This also confirms we will be getting ‘Thor 2’ casting news at Saturdays Marvel Studios panel.

‘Thor 2’ swings into theaters November 15, 2013.

If you’ve been keeping up on San Diego Comic-Con news you may know that Marvel is announcing a brand new game title. This game will be developed by High Moon Studios who are best known for ‘Transformers: War For Cyberton’ and the upcoming ‘Transformers: Fall Of Cyberton’. Well, it look’s like the monkey is out of the bag on this one. Pun fully intended there. There’s already a website up all but officially confirming that this IS the game we will be getting. Some of you may be sigh’ing but I am all for it. It’s a monkey with guns. Why would you not want to play this?

www.hitmonkeygame.com even includes a link to the Marvel HeroHQ discussion forum.

The character Hit-Monkey was created by Daniel Way and Dalibor Talajić in 2010 and appeared in a three-part miniseries before seemingly being killed at the hands of Deadpool a few months later. Is it likely we will get an appearance by Mr. Wade Wilson himself? I think we all hope so.

So, I was reading an article on LA Times Hero Complex and came to a section where they brought up something really interesting.

Why would Whedon sign up for that? He might not. But it’s intriguing to note that Whedon made the big push to put Thanos in “Avengers” and that Warlock was one of the reasons: ”For me, the greatest Avengers was ‘The Avengers’ annual that Jim Starlin did followed by the Thing ‘Two-in-One‘ that contained the death of Adam Warlock,” Whedon told Slash Film. “Those were some of the most important texts and, I think, underrated milestones in Marvel history.”

With him having set the gears for the movie in motion could it be entirely out of the question for Marvel to pursue him to direct? Especially due to it wouldn’t be entirely new territory for him being that one of Whedon’s best known works is Firefly. Attaching his name and the Marvel studios logo would definitely fill seats. Could Whedon be the perfect choice for this film? We will have to wait and find out during the Marvel Studios panel at Comic-Con Saturday in Hall H.

After ‘The Avengers’ hit theaters it was revealed that Marvel had a shot a short film in secret. The short film that will be featured on the Blu-Ray as well as receiving a screening during Comic-Con next week is titled ‘Item 47’. Now thanks to Entertainment Weekly we have details on the cast and just what the 12 minute ‘Item 47’ is about and how it is expanding the Marvel universe.

The film is the latest in the company’s series of shorts dubbed “One-Shots,” a comic book term for stories that wrap up in one issue. Lizzy Caplan (Party Down, pictured) and Jesse Bradford (Flags of Our Fathers) star as a down-on-their-luck couple who find one of the discarded alien guns from the finale to The Avengers — and proceed to make some incredibly bad decisions.

Item 47 refers to the gun itself, which S.H.I.E.L.D. would like very much to retrieve from the hapless young troublemakers. “The world is topsy-turvy now. There’s been an alien invasion, and things are crazy,” explains Marvel Studios co-president Louis D’Esposito, who directed the film himself. “So when this gun literally fell into their lap, this is a sign: We’re going to rob a few banks, we’re going to buy a boat, we’re going to the Caribbean, and all our problems will be solved.”

Two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents (Maximiliano Hernández, returning from Thor and The Avengers, and Lost’s Man in Black Titus Welliver, making his Marvel debut) are given the job of cleaning up the mess and stopping this modern Bonnie and Clyde (not coincidentally named Benny and Claire.)

The goal was to show some non-superpowered people reacting to the aftermath of The Avengers. “Anything that expands the world and shows you the more human elements of it, that just makes the world more colorful and fun for the average viewer,” says Eric Pearson, who wrote the screenplay for Item 47, as well as the previous two One-Shots: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor’s Hammer and The Consultant.

Well it look’s like next week if you are attending San Diego Comic-Con you will be able to snag one of these posters for ‘Iron Man 3’ featuring some of the concept art. Tony Stark? Check. Extremis armor? Check. Awesome? Check.
