Filming on Thor: The Dark World is currently under-way in England and thanks to some pics SuperHeroHype has received we might have our first glimpse of The Dark World! It could technically be anything from ruins to pieces of Asgard or maybe even a gateway to Svartalfheim? In any case the following images are from the set in Bourne Woods, UK.

Local residents received a letter that informed them that a movie called Thursday Morning would be filming from August through September. The letter contained the following:

“We will be establishing a fictional village set in another realm, with yurts and village like dressing in the bowl. The sequence involves a battle between two kingdoms, ending in our comic book hero arriving to save the day,” the letter read. “The sequence will involve approximately 300 extras who will arrive in the early hours prior to call time to go through costume and makeup.”

Thor: The Dark World stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, Zachary Levi, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Christopher Eccleston. It’s being directed by Alan Taylor and is set for release on November 8th, 2013.

So, what’s the best way to celebrate a franchise’s 50th anniversary? With a TV movie! Duh. BBC has announced that Dr. Who is going to be getting a TV movie titled An Adventure in Space and Time that is going to explore the genesis of Doctor Who from its first broadcast on Nov. 23, 1963. The 90-minute movie will explore all aspects of the series, including the many personalities who came together to bring the show to life. Given the nature of the Doctor, who regenerates in different bodies (and has thus, been played by different actors), his origin story has the potential to be really great. And fans are likely to be wondering (and hoping) if the other actors who have played the doctor appear in the special. Doctor Who has had at least 11 different actors playing the Doctor, beginning with William Hartnell and including Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and the current Matt Smith. Mark Gatiss wrote the film with Steven Moffat and Caroline Skinner producing it. The latest season of Doctor Who starts in the UK this month with BBC America following in the fall.

Following yesterdays big news that Christopher Eccelston (Dr. Who, GI Joe: The Rise Of Cobra) would be playing Malekith The Accursed in Thor: The Dark World the actor has briefly commented on the upcoming project.

“’Thor 2′? Yeah I start shooting in August. I haven’t seen a script yet which makes me nervous but yeah! Alan Taylor is directing who has done ‘Game of Thrones’ so it should be good.”

Exploring Thor’s relationship with the Asgardian all-father Odin, as well earthbound companion Jane Foster, “Thor: The Dark World” follows the God of Thunder to The Nine Realms beyond Asgard and earth. And as his evil half-brother, Loki, returns for Asgardian justice, a new threat rises. Also rejoining Thor are his fellow Asgardians, Lady Sif, gatekeeper Heimdall and Warriors Three, as they encounter mythical Norse creatures among evildoers.

Thor: The Dark World is set for release on November 8, 2013.
