Sony Pictures have debuted a new still image from Neill Blomkamp’s (District 9) highly anticipated sci-fi film Elysium, featuring Matt Damon. This image further proves that if you take an actor and make him bald…he looks like a bad ass. No, seriously. Think about it.

In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

Elysium hits theaters August 9th, 2013.

After grossing nearly $400M at the worldwide box office, a sequel to Snow White & The Huntsman was immediately green lit. But, after it was revealed that star Kristen Stewart and director Rupert Sanders had been involved in an affair (cry about it some more Twilight fans) many wondered if either would be returning for the sequel.

There was also talk about just giving Chris Hemsworth’s Hunstman character his own spin-off film rather than a direct sequel. Well, earlier today it was revealed that Kristen Stewart has indeed signed on to reprise her role in the sequel but director Rupert Sanders will not be involved with the project.

“The script has already been written and production will begin late next year. However, Rupert Sanders definitely won’t be a part of the project. Rupert didn’t want to be a part of it to begin with because he is desperately still trying to save his marriage. The search is still on for a new director.”

So, unless Chris Hemsworth signs on to reprise his role, I could definitely care less about this movie. The first one was enjoyable but that was mostly due to Sanders directing and Chris Hemsworth being involved. I am definitely interested to see who they bring on to direct though because that can definitely make or break this sequel.

Not long ago a rumor popped up that Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed) was on the list of contenders to direct Star Wars: Episode VII. The writer/director has actually had meetings at Lucasfilm and it now appears that Trevorrow has actually known about the project and been attached for quite some time. Watch the following video and skip ahead to the 21:15 mark.

I can’t speak with any specificity as to what the next thing will be. There are amazing opportunities that have arisen as a result of this. One of them, I will say, will probably create a good deal of ire against me on the Internet when people find out what it is. So, I just want to say in advance that I promise you, for all those who love the mythology that I will be tackling, trust that I love it as much as you do. And I will respect it, and hopefully make it not suck.

This video actually dates back to June. Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Trevorrow is directing. He definitely has writing experience and that Kathleen Kennedy & George Lucas have mentioned that there are multiple writers involved with the project. Trust us, this should be officially announced sometime very soon.

UPDATE: Well, the director has taken it to Twitter earlier today to announce that he is definitely NOT involved in this project but another one. Well, that’s a little disappointing and now brings up the question of what exactly he is working on.

The classic children’s story Pinocchio, written by Carlo Collodi in 1883, is being brought to the big screen for a live-action adaptation from Warner Bros. pictures. The film will possibly be directed by Tim Burton and star Robert Downey Jr. Apparently, Burton and Downey haven’t signed on yet, but both parties are interested and have been talking to the studio for months now. The initial draft of the script was written by Bryan Fuller and they’ve brought in Jane Goldman (Kick-AssX-Men: First Class) to rewrite it.

“Jane Goldman is in negotiations to work on the script for the project, lending considerable heat to what would see Tim Burton direct Robert Downey Jr. for the first time.”

The adaptation is being described as:

“In the version being developed at Warner Bros., Downey would play Geppetto, the woodcarver who creates a puppet who dreams of becoming a real boy and whose nose grows when he tells a lie. When Pinocchio goes missing, Geppetto embarks on a quest to reunite with his marionette.”

I cannot tell a lie. I may not be a Tim Burton fan but if Robert Downey Jr. gets on board, so will I.

Well, it look’s like you’ll definitely want to get in line to see The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in theaters next month. Not only will you get to see the trailer for Man Of Steel but you’ll finally see some footage from Paramount Pictures & J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness. Yesterday, it was revealed that fans will be able to see the first nine minutes of footage from the sequel, if they see The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in IMAX 3D. And now, it’s been revealed that a full-length theatrical trailer will be attached to non-IMAX screenings.

“TrekMovie has exclusively learned from multiple trusted sources that the first trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness will premiere with screenings of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey on December 14th. To be clear this Trek trailer is a completely different thing than the 9-minute preview of the beginning of the new movie which will be shown at IMAX screenings of the Hobbit film.”.

This week’s episode of Arrow may not have been the strongest of the series but it wasn’t horrible. The episode showed us what passed for quieter times in Oliver’s life and allowed the show to focus a bit more on some of the supporting characters.

The central focus of the episode centered around Oliver expanding his mission out to help anyone who needs his help, and not just solely focus on his list of targets. We’re introduced to the series incarnation of The Royal Flush Gang, this time around a group of bank robbers rather than cyborgs. Really…you were expecting the cyborgs? This change in Oliver’s mission statement came through the influence of Diggle, who continues to be endlessly useful in his role as Ollie’s partner. On the side we saw the romance sub-plot between Tommy Merlyn and Laurel Lance but it really wasn’t that interesting. Come on, we all want to see Ollie and Laurel together.

The main problem with this episode was that the villains really lacked any development.  The encounter between Olliver and the father in the bar was well done, but other than that the rest of the gang wasn’t really fleshed out much. The whole concept of a working class family just suddenly into becoming professional bank robbers just came off a bit weird. Overall the episode just felt like a filler episode but it did broaden Oliver’s range from just the list to every criminal which is very important. John Barrowman aka “The well dressed man” was nowhere to be seen this time around but hopefully he’s back next week so we can get one step closer to finding out just who the hell he is. Here’s to hoping that next week gets us back on track with the great start the series had.

The comic references and easter eggs you might have missed:

stepping up as a hero rather than a ma

– A lost donor to Laurels legal aid foundation named Stagg: Simon Stagg is a fictional DC Comics businessman. Stagg is the unscrupulous owner and CEO of Stagg Enterprises and the father of Sapphire Stagg.

– The Royal Flush Gang holding up a bank in Keystone City: Keystone City is a fictional city in the DC Comics Universe. Specifically, it is the home of both the original Flash, Jay Garrick, and the third Flash, Wally West.

– Coast City: Coast City, was a city located in California. This made it one of the few fictional cities in the DC Universe to have a specifically given location from the start. The city is primarily the home to Hal Jordan aka Green Lantern.

Robert Kirkman sat down with the people over at Entertainment Weekly and chatted about AMC’s The Walking Dead series. During the conversation Krikman revealed that some pretty major things are in store for everyone in the fall finale. One major event would be introduction of another fan-favorite character from the comic series.

“There’s a new character added. A big deal fan favorite from the comic book is introduced into the show in this episode, so be on the lookout for that.”

Many are currently speculating that the character would be Tyreese but this has yet to be confirmed. However, there is quite a bit of evidence that it could be him. explained Kirkman. EW speculates that the character in question is none other than Tyreese. Actor Chad Coleman (The Wire) has been spotted on the Atlanta set recently and his role has yet to be revealed. Could Coleman be the series Tyreese?

Earlier this week director Brian Singer tweeted that he would be teaming up again with costume designer Louise Mingenbach for the sequel to X-Men: First Class. Instantly, fans assumed the worst and believed they would see the return of the leather costumes seen in the first films. Well, the latest Tweet from the director should ease your concerns about this one:

So, ease your concerns. We’re sure to see the return of the yellow and blue costumes that we saw last time around at least. Hopefully, we will even see some more traditional comic costumes as well. We’ll find out in a few months when production on X-Men: Days Of Future Past gets into production! So far it sounds good.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Transformers 4 (which most likely won’t be the name of the film) will focus on Mark Wahlberg’s character (the character’s identity is still being kept secret) and his daughter. The film;s third lead in the film will be her boyfriend, who is a race car driver. Currently Isabelle Cornish (Limitless) and Nicola Peltz (The Last Airbender) are two of the actresses currently up for the female role. It’s also been revealed that there are currently five young actors up for the boyfriend role in the fourth installment.

The list includes Luke Grimes (Brothers & Sisters), Landon Liboiron (Terra Nova), Brenton Thwaites (Blue Lagoon: The Awakening), as well as newcomer Jack Reynor and Hunter Parrish (Weeds). It’s also being said that these actors are being offered a strict three-picture deal, meaning that this will likely be the start of a new trilogy, and to expect an April-November shoot.

Sony is currently testing for various supporting roles in some of their upcoming movies. Included in that list is the role of Harry Osborn, son of Norman Osborn, for the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man. Currently the studio is looking for an actor “dark and edgy” to fill the role which was originally set to be filled by a “bigger athletic actor”.

Currently Brady Corbet (Melancholia), Dane Dehaan (Chronicle) and Alden Ehrenreich (Beautiful Creatures) are the names testing for the role, but we could see more names added to the list due to “character is evolving”.

Deadline reports that Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige has been named as “Motion Picture Showman Of The Year” by the Publicists of the International Cinematographers Guild. If you’re somehow unfamiliar with that name, since joining Marvel in 2000, Feige has overseen all of the creative aspects of the company’s film productions. He became President of Marvel Studios in 2007 and most recently produced Marvel’s The Avengers, which was the biggest movie of the year.

Feige will be honored at the 50th Annual Awards Luncheon on February 22nd. Awards committee chairman Henri Bollinger stated:

“Kevin Feige’s understanding and appreciation of publicity and promotion in the role of a movie’s success has led to a string of blockbuster feature films adapted from the pages of Marvel comic books during the past ten years.”

It’s truly a well deserved award and congratulations on winning it Mr. Feige.

“I LOVED that in comics, you could read all your individual heroes and you could follow their adventures, then every few years there’d be a crossover event that would bring them all together, in one book.

Then they’d go their separate ways again, have their own adventures, and a few years later, they’d get back together again.

I want to replicate that in movies.”

Not long ago it was revealed that Ubisoft was planning a big screen adaptation of Splinter Cell. Now it has been revealed that Eric Singer has been hired by Ubisoft to write the screenplay for the film. Singer is best known for penning the film The International.

It has also been revealed that Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises, Inception) has signed on to star as Fisher in the film. Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures, released the following statement:

“Tom Hardy is currently one of the biggest talents in the film industry, and he has a phenomenal ability to take on complex and varied roles with his broad range of acting skills. His involvement in the ‘Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell’ movie is exciting news for movie and video game fans alike. Meanwhile, Eric Singer is one of the most talented writers of the moment, and … we’re confident he’ll bring a fresh approach and create a thrilling story … while still respecting all the codes and traditions of the franchise that are so important to fans.”

Wow, with talent like Hardy for Splinter Cell and Michael Fassbender for Assassin’s Creed, Ubisoft is definitely not playing around with their film adaptations of their franchises. Could  we finally see some good adaptations of video game franchises coming? Let the games begin!

I didn’t even get out the front door of my comic shop before I opened up All New X-Men #1. As soon as I was done reading it I looked at the shelves hoping for more. Brian Michael Bendis and Stuart Immonen’s new series will launch the old children of the atom into the present of today after the events of AvX. Things are different now but a lot of the same. The mutant world is as chaotic as ever but now with the appearance of new mutants all over the globe we have Cyclops and his extinction team as wanted criminals fighting for mutants everywhere.

Bendis gets right to work with this issue building the stories of these new characters and re-establishing the longtime central theme that some X-books have been missing as of recent: a world full of fear and prejudice. We see the writer really do a great job of exploring both the fears of people coming face to face with mutants the first time as well as the people who discover they are mutants finding out that they are. We see the book bring in quite a few plot points at a fast pace but it works very smoothly and is an exciting read. It’s pretty impressive how well Bendis threads the plot points together in this issue.

The art work is beautiful and Immonen definitely is the right artist to be drawing the X-Men. Immonen’s characters are fantastically drawn in this dialogue heavy book and the moments never seem boring. The art never loses sight of being character-centric even when there’s a lot going on at the moment. And trust me when I say this issue has quite a bit going on in it.

Final verdict: If Bendis and Immonen can keep the series going as strong as this start…we’re in for a great run here. All-New X-Men #1 is definitely a solid  jumping on point for a new of generation X-readers as well as long time X-fans.

Grade: 4.5/5

The third Marvel NOW! ‘Next Big Thing’ press conference is going and during it writer Rick Remender revealed there will be three more characters joining the team in Uncanny Avengers.

Starting in issue #5 we will see Wonder Man, Sunfire and The Wasp join the team. Remender says that all three of the characters are there for a specific reason and explains the reason behind each character:

“Sunfire is brought in for a reason that I don’t want to give away yet, because it deals with the aftermath of the first arc. He and Wolverine have business. He has a natural reason for being there, and I love Sunfire. I’ve never had a member on any team that I feel I can write as surly as Sunfire.”

On the Avengers side, we’ve got Wonder Man, who’s going to play an interesting role. He’s now something of a pacifist, and a major reason he’s on the team is for PR purposes; using his Hollywood skills to help bridge the worlds of mutants and humans.

They don’t have a government source of funding. They’re not going to be getting orders from any government organization, so their funding comes from The Wasp.”

Last week it was revealed that DC super villain Count Vertigo would be appearing on The CW’s Arrow…well, a version of the character that is. This take on the DC villain will be quite different than his comic incarnation and apparently he won’t even be called Vertigo.

In the episode we will see the character appear in, a deadly new drug called Vertigo “becomes all the rage” in Starling City. According to TV Line, Seth Gabel (Fringe) will be playing the “scary and nightmarish” antagonist, who has even been described as “Oliver’s deadliest adversary to date.” The episode is set to air in early 2013.

Two new Agents have joined the cast of ABC and Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D pilot. Actress Elizabeth Henstridge and actor Iain De Caestecker have been cast in the roles of Agent Jemma Simmons & Agent Leo Fitz.

The two S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents have been described as a “brother and sister who always bicker and annoy one another. They came up together and are masters in their fields: Fitz is good with weapons and gadgets while Simmons is into science. And during the show, Agent Simmons and Agent Fitz will apparently be given the nickname “Fitz-Simmons.” The two relatively unknown actors will join join Ming-Na and Clark Gregg for the pilot, which is set to shoot next January.

Steven Spielberg’s upcoming adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson’s Robopocalypse is currently in the pre-production and casting process. Recently it was confirmed that Ben Whishaw (Skyfall) is on board for the film and Chris Hemsworth (The Avengers) was in talks for the male lead. There was also talks that Anne Hathaway (The Dark Knight Rises) was in negotiations for the female lead for the film and now the actress has confirmed that she is indeed on board for the film. The actress revealed to Empire:

“If Robopocalypse happens, I will be in it. And I believe it’s quite real, though you never want to hang your hat on anything.” While not giving away any details on her character, she reveals how she got the role. “Whenever I’m taking time off, I always joke to my team that I’m on vacation unless Steven Spielberg calls. And I was on vacation and Spielberg called. So I was like, ‘OK, put my money where my mouth is’.”

Robopocalypse is set to hit theaters April 25th, 2014.

When talking about the upcoming sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man a short bit back, director Marc Webb revealed that we would be seeing Peter Parker donning a new suit in the film. Talking about the sequel via his official Twitter, the director was asked about what kind of changes we would see to the suit in the sequel. .

I’m definitely curious if the suit is going to resemble that of the suit we’re going to see in Superior Spider-Man, which closely resembles the movie suit a bit. While some people weren’t fans of the suit in the last film I actually liked it much better than the one in the previous films and it looked great in action on the big screen. The most interesting part of his statement however is “Gnarly web shooters”. Definitely curious to see what the director means by that one.

In a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Ubisoft’s chief sales and marketing officer Geoffroy Sardin released some interesting details of about the upcoming big screen adaptation of Assassin’s Creed starring Michael Fassbender.

“Another thing that is very important for the lifecycle is the transmedia offer. All the figurines, the books, the publishing, and we have a movie in the next coming year. So it’s not only about games, we are talking about a global brand, and this is the life cycle management we want to set up now.”

It looks like we will see the film go into production sometime next year, most likely after Fassbender finishes up with X-Men: Days of Future Past, most likely either late Summer or early Fall. This also means that we will most likely see a 2014 release for the film.

Take a first look at some images from Wolves, the directorial debut of David Hayter, the writer of X-Men & X2 and the voice of Solid Snake. This upcoming werewolf flick starring Jason Momoa (Game Of Thrones) and Lucas Till (X-Men: First Class) features Till as Cayden Richards, an eighteen-year-old werewolf accused of murdering his own parents, who goes on the run and winds up in a small town named Lupine Ridge that has a history of supernatural happenings. Jason Momoa will play the villain, a “badass werewolf patriarch.”

Cayden Richards, 18, has it all: Captain of the high school football team; straight-A student; gorgeous girlfriend. But when he wakes one dark night to find his parents brutally murdered, he is horrified to realize that he is turning into an animal: a wild, savage wolf.

Panicked, Cayden runs, determined to find out what is happening to him. His quest leads him to the strange, isolated town of Lupine Ridge, where two clans of wolves are on the brink of war.

The opposing clans are lead by Connor, the powerful, pure-blood alpha of a savage pack and John Tollerman, an old farmer, committed to protecting the human citizens of Lupine Ridge. But when Cayden falls for Angelina, the beautiful, young mate promised to Connor, a battle to the death is inevitable.

And as the past begins to reveal itself, Cayden’s place in the world becomes clearer – as does his power to put an end to the savage violence building up around and within him…

The film currently has no release date set.

With the recent addition of Mark Wahlberg to the cast of the fourth chapter in the Transformers franchise, we should probably start expecting more news to come from that film very soon. The first details to the film were revealed to TMZ [via BleedingCool] where the director talked about just where the next film would take place after Transformers: Dark Of The Moon. The director revealed:

“The movie is going to continue 4 years on from the attack on Chicago which was in the last movie. So it’s going still to have the same lineage but going in a full, new, different direction and it actually feels really natural how it is going in that direction.”

So, this definitely means they won’t really have to address Chicago too much being that it’s gone and over and the Decepticons (Come on…obviously they’re going to be in it) will have had time to regroup and plan out their attack. Fingers crossed that we’re going to be getting some of the cooler ‘cons that haven’t been used yet.

Get a first look at Tom Cruise in All You Need Is Kill, the adaptation of the manga of the same name, showing Cruise running from an explosion in a powerful mech suit. All You Need Is Kill stars Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton and is directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Jumper).

The story unfolds in a near future in which a hive-like alien race, called Mimics, have hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, shredding great cities to rubble and leaving millions of human casualties in their wake. No army in the world can match the speed, brutality or seeming prescience of the weaponized Mimic fighters or their telepathic commanders. But now the world’s armies have joined forces for a last stand offensive against the alien horde, with no second chances.

Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously demoted and then dropped—untrained and ill-equipped—into what amounts to little more than a suicide mission. Cage is killed within minutes, managing to take an Alpha down with him. But, impossibly, he awakens back at the beginning of the same hellish day, and is forced to fight and die again…and again. Direct physical contact with the alien has thrown him into a time loop—dooming him to live out the same brutal combat over and over.

But with each pass, Cage becomes tougher, smarter, and able to engage the Mimics with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt), who has lain waste to more Mimics than anyone on Earth. As Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated battle becomes an opportunity to find the key to annihilating the alien invaders and saving the Earth.

All You Need Is Kill is scheduled to hit theaters on March 14, 2014

The Killing is returning months after AMC cancelled the drama series following the second season. Deadline reports that producer Fox TV Studios is currently working out a deal with Netflix to bring the show back from the dead. We’ll see AMC team up with Netflix for the third season, AMC will be airing the episodes first before they hit Netflix.

It’s no surprise that with the stars of the show, Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman, breaking out that they’d want to continue on with the series. The series may have taken a drop during season two after viewers became frustrated by them dragging out the first case over two seasons…but Linden and Holder will be back for those who stuck around and wanted more.

Enos and Kinnaman are contractually obligated to return for season three, even though they’ve both been pretty busy at the moment. Enos has World War Z hitting theaters next year and Kinnaman is currently shooting RoboCop. We’ll keep you updated on this one for sure. If you haven’t watched this series do yourself a favor and catch up. Season one is available to stream on Netflix and you definitely won’t be disappointed.

Well, you can take Steven Spielberg’s name off the list of potential directors for Star Wars: Episode VII. It’s kind of funny because a while back Spielberg wanted to shoot a Star Wars film. Back in 2002 the director stated:

“I’ve asked [Lucas]. He won’t let me do one. I wanted to do one 15 years ago, and he didn’t want me to do it. I understand why – Star Wars is George’s baby. It’s his cottage industry and it’s his fingerprints. He knows I’ve got Jurassic Park and Raiders. But George has Star Wars and I don’t think he feels inclined to share any of it with me.”

Well, it seems that Steven has changed his mind on the matter. When asked about the possibility of directing the film Spielberg stated:

“No! No! It’s not my genre. It’s my best friend George’s genre.”

Well, even though he’s one of the three directors to be getting Michael Arndt’s treatment, it definitely looks like we can count Spielberg out of the running for this one.

What started off as a rumor ended up becoming something real. Not too long ago it was rumored that Mark Wahlberg was up for the lead role in the next Transformers film but that rumor was quickly debunked by Michael Bay. Earlier this week, director Michael Bay thanked the internet for the rumor that Mark Wahlberg was up for the male lead in the film and now Bay’s official website had issued the following press release confirming that Mark Wahlberg has indeed joined the cast of Transformers 4!

HOLLYWOOD, CA (November 8, 2012) – After an exceptionally successful collaboration on the upcoming “Pain and Gain,” Michael Bay has cast Academy Award®-nominee Mark Wahlberg in the highly anticipated “TRANSFORMERS 4.” The film will hit theaters June 27th, 2014.

“Mark is awesome. We had a blast working on “Pain and Gain” and I’m so fired up to be back working with him. An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers’ legacy,” said Bay.

Bay will direct the next installment in the “TRANSFORMERS” series, which begins shooting next spring. From Paramount Pictures, a division of Viacom, Inc., in association with Hasbro, the film will be produced by Don Murphy & Tom DeSanto, Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Ian Bryce, and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, Bay, Brian Goldner and Mark Vahradian.

Bay’s first “TRANSFORMERS” film was a box office sensation in 2007, opening at #1 and earning more than $700 million worldwide. His second installment “TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN” in 2009 grossed more than $830 million worldwide. In 2011, “TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON” was an even bigger hit worldwide, grossing more than a billion dollars to become the 5th highest grossing film of all time. To date, the franchise has earned more than $2.6 billion worldwide.

From acclaimed director Michael Bay comes “Pain and Gain,” a new action comedy starring Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Mackie. Based on the unbelievable true story of three personal trainers in 1990s Miami who, in pursuit of the American Dream, get caught up in a criminal enterprise that goes horribly wrong. Ed Harris, Tony Shalhoub, Rob Corddry, Rebel Wilson, and Bar Paly also star. The film is based on magazine articles by Pete Collins, with a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely and produced by Donald DeLine, Michael Bay and Ian Bryce.

“PAIN AND GAIN” opens in theaters everywhere April 26th, 2013.

Personally, I think Wahlberg is a fantastic actor and definitely a great addition to the next film. How about you guys?
