Holy crap guys. This game NEEDS to get funded. The team over at Gun Media have secured the rights to Friday The 13th and are turning it into an asymmetrical multiplayer game!

Initially designed as an original slasher concept, Gun Media were able to snag the rights to Friday The 13th from it’s creator Sean S. Cunningham. They are turning their brilliant idea into the first Friday The 13th game since the legendarily hard NES title. Check out the trailer, and Kickstarter pitch videos below.

Friday the 13th: The Game is a third-person, asymmetrical multiplayer title where one player controls Jason Voorhees while the remaining seven control camp counselors trying to survive the night. That’s right…1v7 multiplayer set in the semi-open world of Camp Crystal Lake! It’s a classic horror fan’s dream, no shaky cam, no found footage. We want you to know we’re revitalizing the golden era of slashers, and putting you at the controls of each horrific, blood-splattered moment.

Friday the 13th is the definition of horror to the millions of fans around the world. A masked killer going after the young and vulnerable; it grabs our attention, it frightens us, and yet we all come back for more. Friday the 13th: The Game will give you the feeling of horror and dread that you expect from Jason Voorhees. This will be the ultimate asymmetrical horror experience unlike anything you’ve seen – a title we’re proud to introduce that is worthy of the name ‘Friday the 13th’.

This looks freaking incredible, and I am pretty sure that Gun Media is going to knock it out of the park. They’ve assembled a team that consists of the films creator, Sean S. Cunningham, Tom Savini and Kane Hodder (the most recent actor to don the Hockey Mask of horror).

They’ve already raised just over $177k of their $700k goals. For more information be sure to head over and check out their Kickstarter to check out their Pre-Alpha screenshots!

We’re all pretty huge fans of Mark Webber around these parts.

Sure, we all loved him in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, but then he broke our hearts with The End of Love, and absolutely shattered us with last year’s The Ever After.

Mark is back to (probably) break our hearts all over again, and this time he’s taken to Kickstarter to make his new movie happen. Interestingly enough, we really have no idea what the movie is about. The campaign page is called ‘Mark Webber’s Secret Movie’, and it’s labelled as “a film so potent, vulnerable & personal that he can’t tell you what it’s about yet.”

Interested already, aren’t you?

So are a lot of other folks apparently. Even though Mark hasn’t really detailed anything about the project, his amazing track record and the enthusiasm that he exudes in the campaign video has already brought him more than halfway to his goal.

Here’s what Mark says about the project:

I’m returning home to make my most vulnerable and personal story yet…

Over the last few years I’ve developed a style of directing that uses real life situations and people, to tell stories that hit in a way you don’t normally experience. “The End Of Love” I starred in with my actual 2 year old son, “The Ever After” with my actual wife. Doing so gives me a level of vulnerability and intimacy that’s impossible to achieve in a traditional setting, that I use to push the bounds of truth, rawness, beauty, connection and emotion in storytelling. With this next film, due to the subject matter, and how I’ll have to shoot, I must keep the plot details and cast completely secret. It’s crucial in order to be able to successfully capture certain aspects of the story. Although the images I’ve included of my mother and I are very telling…

In keeping with the personal theme of the film, the rewards available to backers are also surprisingly personal. You’ll find no mass-printed t-shirts or posters among the rewards, but instead, some really rare items like Mark’s watermarked shooting script from Scott Pilgrim, one only 10 CD’s ever made of The Ever After soundtrack hand signed by the amazing Moby and Daniel Ahearn, and even some private acting lessons. Pretty cool, huh?

The project has just over two weeks left in its campaign, so watch the Kickstarter video for Mark Webber’s Secret Movie below, and head here to back the project!

What do you think the project could be about? Share your ideas in the comments below!

We also had Mark on the show just last week to talk about his Secret Movie, so be sure to head here to listen.

Briefly: Back in January, celebrated developer Harmonix revealed that it would have to push its Kickstarter-funded reboot of popular rhythm game Amplitude to this Summer.

Unfortunately, it looks as though the game is taking the route of every Kickstarter project that I’ve ever backed and has been delayed once more.

Now, this isn’t just a case of shipping estimates being impossibly ambitious in order to procure more backers, but instead Harmonix has decided to vastly expand the title, and just can’t possibly finish the new content in time.

In an update to the project’s Kickstarter page, Harmonix’ Alex and Ryan detail just what’s going on:

Greetings, beloved backers!

This is Alex Rigopulos, writing to you through a cartoon speech bubble. Ryan and I are eager to fill you all in on a number big developments in Amplitude Land.

As the game came together this year, it became apparent to all of us that it was shaping up to be something really special. The gameplay is as fun and addictive as ever, the HD visuals are gorgeous and hypnotic, and the soundtrack is killer.

The game is fulfilling all of our hopes and ambitions for it, and at a certain point, we made a major call: We’ve decided to double down, increase the project budget, and make the new Amplitude bigger and better than the scope of game we originally pitched to you all last year.

I will now hand the mic over to Cartoon Ryan, who will tell you some more details.

Hey there…

Although we had originally promised about 16 songs total, we have decided to cram as much awesome music into Amplitude as possible. We now upped the total count to 30 songs! If you are a backer at the appropriate tiers, you will also get a 31st song too, voted on by the Song Senate—our group of backers that chipped in at the Song Senate tier. (Side note: In a display of true Amplitude community good will, the Song Senate decided to keep the “most wanted” song in the main game soundtrack, instead of keeping it all to themselves. THANKS, SONG SENATE!)

You guys may also recall that early in the dev cycle, we decided to add a concept album wrapper to the otherwise vanilla solo mode. This is all new for Amplitude and we think it adds a bit more depth and interest to the game and the songs themselves. The core campaign now includes 16 all-original songs, written in-house by our amazing musicians. You have heard some of these tracks in past posts and at the conventions… songs like “Decode Me” and “Wetware”.

In addition to the basic play modes that were promised originally, and the single path/single environment in which they would be presented, we decided to expand both of those dimensions by adding 2 more playable environments, unique path topology per song, and more play modes. We are now shipping a solo campaign, solo free play, 2-4 player “free-for-all”, and an all-new team play mode (1v3, 2v2).

Over the course of the project, we created the original nanoblaster and the backerblaster, and also made 3 additional nanoblasters for players to choose from in solo and multi play. (v0.9 Chubs is my personal fave, displacing v1.1 Raven)

We have added leaderboards, allowing players to compete asynchronously against each other online for score, both per-song and across the whole game.

Oh! One last thing: There is a new, still-to-be-announced way to play the game that will change the way you think about Amplitude’s 6-lane track. More on that at a later date! Now back to Alex.

Thanks, Cartoon Ryan. So that’s all of the good news. Now for the bad news that comes along with it: It’s impossible for us to finish all of these extra songs, environments, features and modes on the same schedule. Our previous target for shipping the game was this summer. Now that we’ve committed to this expanded scope, though, we won’t be able to complete and ship the game until the end of this year on PS4 (with the PS3 version coming shortly thereafter).

Kickstarter backers who paid for the “early access” reward will be able to play the PS4 version in December, prior to the holiday break. For everyone else, the PS4 version will become available in January. (We’ll follow up with the exact dates in December and January for PS4 as soon as we have them. PS3 will follow shortly behind.)

We know that this schedule slip will be a disappointment to many of you. (Frankly, it’s disappointing to us as well, as we’re all dying to play the finished game…) However, our judgment was that our highest priority is to deliver the best game we possibly can to our fans—the definitive version of Amplitude. We want to over-deliver for our biggest supporters, and that’s simply going to require some extra time.

Some of you might wonder—will this delay mean that synchronous online multiplayer will be added? I’m sorry to say, it will not, as that is impossible within our budget means for this game, even with the expanded budget. However, our hope is that this release of Amplitude will be successful enough to justify a sequel or feature expansion pack that could include this. In the meantime, the newly added leaderboard system will enable plenty of heated asynchronous online competition!

Finally, I should add that the physical rewards are beginning production, and we’ll have more news on those in the coming weeks.

From the whole Amplitude team, thank you for your continued support and patience. We think that when you see the finished product at the end of this year, you’ll agree that the wait as been worth it!

TL;DR? Basically, it’s coming in December for early access members, and January for everyone else. Game modes have been expanded, and the track list has increased from a decent 16 to a whopping 30 tracks.

Sound like a good reason for a delay? Yeah, I thought so.

Are you looking forward to playing the Amplitude reboot? Sound out below!

Shenmue 3 wrapped up its Kickstarter in spectacular fashion, closing out at $6.33 million. This total makes the continuation of Yu Suzuki’s Dreamcast epic the highest funded game in the crowdfunding website’s history. Not bad for a game many in the industry thought didn’t have a big enough audience!

Following its announcement at Sony’s E3 2015 press conference, Shenmue 3 adds this latest accolade to its growing list of accomplishments, including becoming the fastest game to reach $1 million and the second fastest project amongst all categories to do so after a mere two hours of its launch. In addition to Sony already commiting to helping fund development for the PS4 version, it seems like what seemed like nothing more than a pipe dream might hit our consoles and PC as early as December 2017.

Still, producing Shenmue might still be an uphill battle, considering that the first game was infamously in the $70 million range to develop in 1999.  Considering developing a game of this nature now should be cheaper, it remains to be seen if Suzuki and his team are going to give it all the modern bells and whistles that could skyrocket the final cost.

Either way, we’re just excited that the game is finally coming. Will Ryo avenge his father and defeat Lan Di? What role will the mysterious Ling Shenhua play? Will we find any more sailors? And what’s up with that tree!? Here’s to hoping we’ll find out when the game is finally released!

Briefly: Typically, our Crowdfund This pieces look at Kickstarter and Indiegogo campaigns in their infancy that pique our interest.

Unfortunately, with E3, San Diego Comic-Con, and a million other things going on at once, this one slipped under our radar, and now definitely needs our help if we want to see it happen.

It’s called The Unwantedand it’s “a frightening supernatural thriller that examines a haunted hotel years after a horrifying incident occurred.”

The idea for The Unwanted originated from the Elisa Lam tape, which features “real security cam footage of a woman in an elevator that, over the course of four minutes, looks as if she’s becoming possessed – drifting in and out of the elevator, unbalanced and frightened. At the end of the video, she slowly pinwheels her splayed hands about, as if pleading with something we cannot see, her body then contorts and she disappears from view. She went missing and was found dead in a SEALED, inaccessible rooftop water tank weeks later. The County Department of Coroner ruled the death “accidental due to drowning” and said no traces of drugs or alcohol were found during the autopsy. This happened at the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles two years ago.”

You can take a look at the footage here, but be warned that it’s creepy as hell.

Now, the team notes that they are “NOT basing our film on this footage. Instead, it inspired us – in a horrifying way – to create The Unwanted. A film with elements of The Exorcist, The Gates of Hell and The Sentinel. A film that asks the question – what if you were possessed by TWO different entities in a horrible, haunted place and the only way to stop them was to stop yourself?”

Sushi Girl co-writer Destin Pfaff is now helming this one, and with the cult fanbase that the star-studded film has, it’s crazy to me that The Unwanted sits at just $7700 of its $85000 goal.

So, The Unwanted needs our help. As always, there are some fantastic rewards up for grabs, including shirts, scripts, digital downloads, Blu-Rays, producer credits, and much, much more. The biggest reward of all? Getting to see this movie me made, of course (does that sound like a MasterCard commercial, or what)?

So, you know what to do. Take a look at the project’s Kickstarter video below, and head here to back! Are you looking forward to The Unwanted?

Briefly: I am so excited.

Last month, we featured a unique-as-hell looking game called Perception in our ‘Crowdfund This’ column. I also talked about the game extensively on Geekscape Games (probably more than once), and I’m happy to say that the game finished its Kickstarter campaign with $168,041 of its $150,000 goal.

That means the game is funded, and will definitely be released. Aw yiss.

Crafted by new studio The Deep End Games, which it turns out is made up of a lot of ex-Bioshock dev Irrational Games employees, the game is “a first-person narrative horror adventure that tells the story of Cassie, a blind heroine who uses her extraordinary hearing and razor-sharp wits to unravel the mysteries of an abandoned estate that haunts her dreams. The gameplay has Cassie using echolocation to see, which amounts to some extremely original mechanics, and potential for some absolutely gut-wrenching scares.”

The game’s campaign just finished, and the developers released the following thank-you note:

We are completely overwhelmed, overjoyed and humbled at the reception our game has received. This has been the most exciting, exhilarating month and we have you to thank.

We are so proud to be able to make this game thanks to you. Words cannot express the level of gratitude and sheer joy this has brought us, and we can’t wait to make this game and put it in your hands!

Moving forward, we will keep you all posted regarding what’s going on with Perception. We can’t wait to show you more footage, screen shots, excerpts and more.

A few weeks back, the developer announced that acclaimed comic writer Joshua Fialkov (check out my Emerald City Comic-Con interview with him here) was joining the team, which skyrocketed my already astronomical excitement for the title. Two new modes for the game have also just been revealed, ‘Silent Night’, and ‘Mode 7’. You can take a look at footage from each below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the game!

During a night of shocking announcements, arguably the most surprising one of all was the sudden reveal of the long lost Shenmue 3 during Sony’s E3 press conference. Disappointingly attached to the condition that it be funded through Kickstarter, fans answered the call, leading the crowdfunding campaign to break through its $2 million goal in about nine hours, becoming the fastest video game to reach $1 million, clocking in at 1 hour and 42 minutes according to Guinness World Records. From this goal being met in record time, to someone ALREADY claiming the Ryo replica jacket and all three slots for dinner with Yu Suzuki for contributing $10,000 proves how passionate the fanbase is for this game. Or am I thinking crazy?

Either way, now that the initial goal has been met, the game has the potential to be expanded through a new set of stretch goals. Serving as what many consider the first true 3D open world title, Shenmue 3 is hoping to add three full cities to explore, a rapport system to help Ryo build relationships with the characters he meets, (sailors or otherwise,) and subtitles in multiple languages. The full list of goals is as follows, including the ones that have already been met:

Shenmue 3 Stretch Goals

Are you planning on backing this project? Is Shenmue 3 a dream come true for you, or is it too little too late? Let us know what you thought of the reveal below, and keep checking back for more E3 news, previews, and the fallout of the show in the coming days!

Briefly: This looks incredibly original, and I sure hope that it receives the funding that it’s looking for.

We’ve seen some pretty incredible gaming successes on Kickstarter over the past month. Yooka-Laylee surpassed each and every one of its stretch goals in under 24 hours, and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night flew beyond its goal in just a day.

Perception, an insanely original premise by a new studio (which contains a ton of ex-Irrational Games devs) called The Deep End Games just hit Kickstarter, and while it hasn’t yet received the same success as the previously mentioned titles, in less than a day its reached over $30,000 of its $150,000 goal.

Perception is a first-person narrative horror adventure that tells the story of Cassie, a blind heroine who uses her extraordinary hearing and razor-sharp wits to unravel the mysteries of an abandoned estate that haunts her dreams. The gameplay has Cassie using echolocation to see, which amounts to some extremely original mechanics, and potential for some absolutely gut-wrenching scares.

As always, there are some incredible rewards available for backers, but I’m mostly excited for the potential of this insanely ambitious looking game. Plus, it’s a horror title, and we all know that I’m a sucker for those.

Take a look at the campaign trailer for Perception below, and let us know if you’ll be backing the project. Be sure to visit the campaign page for all the info about the title.

Koji Igarashi took to Kickstarter with the intention of reviving what he’s coining the “Koji-Vania” genre that was made famous when he co-directed Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. To say that he was successful would be an understatement.

Following in the footsteps of last week’s Yooka-Laylee, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night proved that fans are more than willing to fork over the cash to get their 2D Castlevania fix. In less than 24 hours, the project’s Kickstarter page raised the $500,000 needed to fund the project, signaling another resounding rejection of a major publisher’s decision to pass on classic games.

Led by Igarashi, Bloodstained looks to capture the spirit of Konami’s series by creating an exploration platformer complete with RPG elements, memorable bosses and a variety of weapons, (including a whip!) As Miriam, an alchemist who carries the magi-crystal curse, she will be tasked with exploring a castle that attracts demons, all while discovering the reasons for why her friend, Gebel, has summoned it. Using her alchemic know-how to craft weapons along the way, it’s looking like she’ll fill the void that the Belmonts have left behind.

Developed by Inti. Creates, (of Mega Man 9, 10, Zero and Azure Striker Gunvolt fame,) and bringing in the voice talents of David Hayter, (which is surely a jab at Iga’s former publisher,) the promises that Bloodstained is making is enough of a reason for any 2D fan to get excited.

Want to contribute? As of this writing, the project is sitting at $1.5 million, with most of its stretch goals met! By participating in the community through creating fan art, interacting on Twitter, and a variety of other tasks, more stretch goals and giveaways will unlock as we approach the funding date. To donate, visit the Kickstarter page, and let us know what you hope Bloodstained will deliver!

When former Rare developers reach out to the gaming community to help fund their Banjo-Kazooie inspired 3D platformer, it turns out that gamers are as passionate for the genre as the developers are.

Enter Yooka-Laylee, a project with obvious ties to the N64 days of old. Featuring team members who have worked on childhood classics such as the Donkey Kong Country series, Goldeneye 007, and of course, the two classic Banjo games, newly formed developer, Playtonic Games, have traded in the bear and bird with the bat and chameleon!

Described as a passion project that’s set to revive the “buddy duo” platformer, Playtonic is promising huge, colorful worlds with multiple abilities, near-countless collectables and a cast of characters that will charm us back to 1999, (Y2K scares not included.) Looking to design the game on a smaller budget than what Banjo cost over a decade ago, the purpose of the Kickstarter was to make sure Yooka-Laylee would be the best game possible while being able to maintain their vision.

Fans apparently agreed in a big way, with the project’s funding in 40 minutes and becoming the fastest video game to reach $1,000,000 on the crowd funding website in the process. Less than a day after launching, the campaign had met all of its stretch goals, with new goals being added to improve a game that has already captured so many. What started as a small project has exploded into something much bigger, with a potential orchestral soundtrack as the next goal while sitting on close to 1.5 million pounds, with 41 days left to donate as of this writing.

Scheduled for an October 2016 release on every major console in addition to PC, and it’s clear that Microsoft missed out on a demand that’s all too obvious. For more info, check out the Yooka-Laylee Kickstarter page here.

This is so cool.

Regular folk will read this project’s creator as as Frank Sanders, but long time Geekscapists know him better as Sandstone. He’s been with us for as long as we can remember, and we really, really love him, so we’re beyond ecstatic that he’s finally getting to make the short film he’s been talking about for ages.

It’s called CHRISTMASacre, and… well, you’re already sold, aren’t you?

Need more? Here’s the synopsis, which is just as bad-ass as the title is:

Christmassacre is a short film about Jesus and Santa teaming up to rid the world of lowlife criminals and crooked cops.

The world has turned the chaos. Everywhere you look you see people jumping at every opportunity to take advantage of their fellow man. We expect this of politicians and we expect this of a portion of our society best suited behind bars. What we do not, and should not expect however, is for those that are tasked to protect us to turn against us with violence and malice. Sadly, what we want and what we get are often two dissimilar truths, and now The Immovable Object and The Unstoppable Force have come to set shit straight by any means necessary.

Now, the project is already well into principal photography (as you can see from the screenshots on the Kickstarter page), and everything is looking really solid so far. The campaign has a goal of just $1000, and as Frank states, ” We need the extra little amount to pay the final actors travel expenses and food for being so kind as to come work on this project. We will also need a few more tools in editing.”

Sounds reasonable, doesn’t it? Now take a look at this short teaser:

Now, as always there are some pretty sweet (and CHRISTMASsy rewards available to backers, including signed promo photos, bloody Christmas ornaments, fake needles (that double as pens), Santa suits, and more.

Now, take a look at the campaign video below, show your holiday spirit, and help out a fellow Geekscapist! You can head here to back the project.

Briefly: Is it sad that Harmonix’s Amplitude reboot is one of my most anticipated releases of the year?

Nope. It’s not. Because Amplitude freaking ROCKS (no pun intended).

The game was recently pushed back to Summer, but that’s totally okay, because the fact that it exists at all is amazing.

Harmonix has just released the first gameplay trailer for the game, and it’s so damned smooth. I can’t wait to disappear for a week when this one drops and do nothing but play (not even sleep)

Take a look at the trailer below, and head to the official Playstation blog for info on the newly-announced Team Multiplayer mode.

Being Vice President of the world sounds like it would be a pretty sweet gig. Everyone has to do what you say, you can boss everyone around, and it would make you the most powerful person on the planet (aside from the President, of course.) But between all the unearned vacations, publicity events and empty promises, you just might have to work on occasion, especially when it comes to saving the planet that elected you.

Citizens of Earth does just this, putting players in control of the newly elected VP in a turn based RPG seeped in classic gaming roots. During his first vacation, (the day after he was elected,) the bane of the Western world in the form of protesters show up at his door. After getting his mother and brother to get rid of them, it’s clear that there’s more going on than simple political discourse. When stop signs, coffee machines, and bears made of honey come to life and begin attacking the adoring public, it’s up to the honorable vice leader to set things right.

CoE_Screenshots (5)

As someone of such high importance however, you can’t expect him to get his hands dirty when it comes to the actual Earth defending, which is where the loyal citizens come in. Using his expert campaigning skills, up to 40 different characters can be recruited, each with unique jobs, skills and combat abilities that help in and outside of battle. While simple, the turn based battle system finds a unique way to put these skills to good use. Using three party members at a time to fight, each has two basic attack types. Standard attacks can be performed without penalty, while building up one point of energy needed for special moves. These special moves need a certain amount of energy to initiate, but when they typically deal out huge damage, status effects, or healing bonuses for your team, it’s clear that the cost is well worth it.

Aside from the energy system though, this might sound like your typical RPG conventions that have been done to death for close to three decades. What makes Citizens of Earth stand out that makes it a must play for a long time role playing aficionado? For starters, each member gives bonus stats to whoever they’re fighting with. Adding depth to the level system, each character can be customized to a degree by having the right team members with them to fit the stat you want to raise.

In addition, the experience earned unlocks more than just stat points and new attacks. EXP earned in battle also goes towards upgrading the citizen’s talent, often related to their day job. If you recruit the baker for example, his shop will have better healing items as he becomes stronger. The pilot can teleport you to a larger variety of areas. The cop gives you extra bounties to hunt. Get the picture? When you consider that there are 40 citizens to level, part of the fun is seeing how their abilities can help you both in and out of combat.

CoE_Screenshots (114)

Such a daunting task sounds like it can be overwhelming, and honestly, it was at first. It’s disheartening seeing your current party level up so high, then try to switch them out, only to have the newbies be too weak to compete. As the game progresses though, this problem becomes alleviated thanks to a few lenient features the game has included. First, the VP can restart a battle and change up the party, allowing him to throw in a strong party member to help boost the weaker ones. Second, KO’d party members still gain EXP, so having to scramble for your revive items isn’t as important, especially when they gain all of their health upon leveling up. Lastly, once the Teacher is recruited, unused party members can be put into class, leveling them up over time. It still can be a little more time consuming than I would have liked, but it’s also completely optional.

Aside from the game play, Citizens of Earth stands out even more with its unique presentation. Its humor, off the wall enemies, (smiling cops? Bubble Bees? Stop Vines?), and 2D navigation with enemies on the map are highly reminiscent of Earthbound, which is completed by a nearly fully voiced script and a political cartoon inspired art style. The only thing more charming than the hammy delivery of everything the VP does, is the bright, vibrant world filled with on screen enemies, (that can be ambushed and instantly killed if you’re strong enough,) potential party members and NPCs that bring the world to life. If nothing else, this title will surely make you smile across its story mode.

CoE_Screenshots (84)

Yet, its biggest shortcoming brings it down pretty hard, which is the overall speed of the game. My enthusiasm to compete the adventure took a dive after experiencing how slow everything moves. Battles take a long time to start, which isn’t helped by enemies that either absorb attacks, constantly call for reinforcements, or completely heal, making me dread fighting certain enemies. Imagine fighting basic enemies for close to 10 minutes because you want your weaker teammates to level up, but the enemy keeps healing when on the verge of death? Making the campaign sour even more are the constant load times, slowing the game to a crawl. When entering buildings begins to feel tedious, it becomes an obvious issue.

Yes, Citizens of Earth won’t reinvent the wheel, but that’s not what it’s trying to do. Serving as a delightful throwback to some of the greatest RPGs of yesteryear, it does enough to inject its own style, personality and unique mechanics to make it stand out to even the most jaded gamer. Even still, the slow pace of the fights, their generally basic mechanics, and constant loading times cause the VP to fall from grace. Even still, if you’re in need of an old school RPG with modern sensibilities, you can’t go wrong with this ticket.

Final Score: 3.5/5

Briefly: All the way back in May of 2014, Guitar Hero creator Harmonix took to Kickstarter in an attempt to reboot their classic, critically acclaimed, and beloved rhythm game Amplitude. The campaign was a huge success (because the game is freaking awesome), raising over $840,000 of its $775,000 goal.

So the game is coming, and is well on its way through development. It just won’t be coming out as soon as we’d hoped. Here’s what Harmonix had to say:

As you all know, 2015 is the year we bring Amplitude back to Sony consoles. While our expected delivery date according to our Kickstarter page is “March,” our release plans have changed. We’re currently targeting a summer release.

WAIT, WHAT? WHY?

This is our first time working on PlayStation 4, and it’s been a big learning experience for the team. We’ve put a lot of work into our proprietary engine to support some of the new, awesome content we’re bringing to the reboot. These factors combined have bumped production out a few additional months.

In a traditional scenario, we’re sometimes tasked with shipping a game to meet publisher demands or in some cases, meet a deadline to make sure the game is available to be purchased during the busy holiday season. In these cases, developers have to re-evalute production needs and make difficult calls to meet deadlines, including removing or shrinking features and – in the worst cases – sacrificing quality in other areas.

With Amplitude and our promise of open development, you’ve given us the opportunity to create the game we want to make and, more importantly, make the game that you want. In order to meet that goal, we don’t want to cut any corners, and we want to stay true to our vision and deliver the best Amplitude experience possible.

We had an amazing showing at PlayStation Experience in December, letting fans play the game for the first time, and we got amazing feedback. We know we have a ways to go, and we’re committed to getting there and making this truly feel like a worthy successor to the game you remember from 2003.

SO WHAT’S NEXT?

We’re still making solid progress and look forward to sharing what we’re working on during production, as promised over the coming months. We also have some exciting plans for PAX East in March; backers who backed at the VIP party level – that is totally still on so please check your inboxes.

You can also expect a far more polished multiplayer mode that will be available for hands-on at PAX (those of you who joined us at PlayStation Experience know that even though multiplayer was playable, it needed some serious work). We hope you can join us in March and challenge us to a multiplayer match!

Thanks so much for your continued love and support. We’ve hit the ground running upon returning to the studio after the holiday and look forward to getting Amplitude in your hands as soon as we can.

-Team Amplitude

So, not a huge delay seeing as the game was originally slated for March, but in any case we’ll be waiting a few more months to play the reboot of what’s possibly the most fun music game, ever.

Are you looking forward to Amplitude? Sound out below!

We love Video Games Live. In fact, we were just talking about the VGL and its incredible co-creator Tommy Tallarico on the latest episode of Geekscape Games!

I was lucky enough to experience a Video Games Live performance back in April of 2011, and since then I’ve been eagerly awaiting for VGL to return  somewhere near me, as it to this day remains one of the most mind-blowing musical experiences that I’ve ever been a part of, and I would really, really, really love to experience it again (and I missed it at SDCC… bah).

My iTunes library is filled with frequently-on-repeat Video Games Live content, and as such I’m beyond excited for the currently-in-crowdfunding Level 4 album to finally be released.

The Kickstarter is already over its funding goal with just three days left to contribute, but Tommy and co. have set up some stretch goals to bring us even more content, and if it can get enough funds, another full length concert video (who wouldn’t want that?). Video Games Live: Level 4 is set to be a studio recorded album, and being able to relive another concert would just be icing on the cake. Check out the Kickstarter video for the campaign below, and keep reading to learn how you could win an AMAZING VGL price pack.

So, you want to hear about what you could win, huh? Well, one lucky reader is set to win a HUGE digital Video Games Live prize pack. Here’s what it includes:

Briefly: This one’s got just a few days left of it’s nearly-there Kickstarter campaign, and I definitely think that we can push it over the edge!

This one’s called 5th Passenger, and it’s an original science fiction/horror feature film with cast members from Star Trek and Stargate, and it also features a strong female lead! Kari actually had an opportunity to interview some of the creative team behind the project back in September 0f 2013, so if you’re looking for more 5th Passenger, be sure to head here.

Here’s the film’s plot:

Set in 2151, after the Yellowstone Caldera volcano erupts throwing the Earth into chaos, 5th Passenger tells the story of a secretly pregnant female officer and her four man crew adrift in deep space in an escape pod after their transport ship explodes before reaching the new home planet. They fight amongst themselves as they run low on air, but must work together to find a vicious alien hiding aboard their craft before it kills them all.

Sounds pretty cool, huh? Now check out their Kickstarter video, and read on for more info.

Yeah… this looks freaking awesome. And how about that cast and crew!? Doug Jones, Tim Russ, Marina Sirtis, Robert Picardo, Manu Intiraymi, Hana Hatae and even MORE!

As always, there are plenty of rewards up for grabs for people who back the project, including stills, digital downloads, premiere tickets, DVDs, autographs, producer credits, and more! There’s really something for everyone here, and with just three days left in its campaign, it needs just $3600 to make its goal.

You can head to the 5th Passenger Kickstarter page here, and be sure to let us know if you plan to back!

One of the highlights of my trip was getting a hands on with the most unique Indie game at PAX Prime 2014, Tetropolis.

Now you may be asking yourself, “How on EARTH can NextGen Pants combine two drastically different games?”, well I’m about to tell you!

You play as a discarded Tetromino. You came out into the world destined to be a complete, four square piece. Aspirations of being a T or an L, but alas out of the machine you were missing your last cube. You are quickly discarded, some unseen force deems your garbage. You fall into a pit of other Tertrominos. This is when the cinematic ends and the player takes over.

I quickly got my bearings and moved forward, finding a lone cube piece sitting there. I rolled over and soon the main character was born. Born of two less main characters. This is where the demo and the journey began.

Tetropolis plays like your standard Metroidvania style game. Going through levels, finding power ups and items, and back tracking with said new power ups to get a little bit further. If you can’t figure it out by it’s name, think Metroid and Castlevania.

The levels themselves are actually giant Tetrominos that, if the player reaches a control room, can move and rotate them around in order to solve puzzles, get around obstacles, or reach the levels boss fight.

The controls are very easy to learn. Left stick rolls your Tetromino around like a ball, while the right control stick rotates you in place. A button makes you jump, X uses abilities, and Y transforms you to other shapes you acquire.

The version I played at PAX, you can play too yourself! Head on over to their Kickstarter Page and get the demo RIGHT NOW for free!

The atmosphere was really great, I had a strong Oddworld/dystopian vibe going while I played it. Ominous machinery and propaganda posters adorned the level. The Developers said that there is going to be a strong narrative throughout the game. They said they wanted it to specifically not be in any one language, that the narrative would move forward just on visuals alone. The one thing you can understand in ANY language is Tetris, and they wanted to have that ubiquitous appeal come through with Tetropolis.

I am personally going to back this game, the little that I got to play on the show floor sold me. It was cute and endearing. Balanced complexity and ease of use very well.

This is very cool.

Subscription box services are all the rage right now, and Hero Chest sounds like a phenomenal option for comic book fans. If I didn’t reside in Canada, I’d definitely be subscribing to this one.

As a guy who only makes it into my LCS to pick up my pull list every month or two, I know that there’s a lot of cool stuff that I’m missing. Hero Chest could be a great way to expand my comic book horizons.

Each Hero Chest is set to contain:

– A recently released Trade Paperback (compilation of 6-10ish comic issues, usually of a single story arc in one place)

Part of the 7DFPS game jam in 2013, SuperHot stood out from the rest of the games created. With the mixture of interesting art design and controlling time a big gameplay mechanic, turning a first-person shooter into a real-time strategy game as well is something special indeed. Since time moves when you do, carefully planning out each step in hopes of evading bullets while setting up your limited shots is a challenge. Just have a look at some of the latest gameplay footage below for SuperHot and tell me that isn’t intriguing as hell.

Wanting to fully flesh out this amazing idea past the 7 day prototype built in 2013, SuperHot is looking towards Kickstarter to get it done. With a goal of $100,000 to complete this project, it may seem a little ambitious for what we have seen so far. After seeing some of the things the developers want to do in SuperHot, the amount seems more than fine. From the Kickstarter page, some of the goals are:

Story driven single-player campaign. SUPERHOT is more than just a shooter with a gimmick. We want to deliver a solid, interesting campaign built around a carefully constructed, not overly in-your-face story.

Improved visuals. We are keeping the original game’s minimalistic artstyle while making everything look a lot better. SUPERHOT is all about style.

Infinite mode. A lot of people have asked us for an endless, arena-style mode that will allow them to play SUPERHOT for as long as they want. Master the game’s mechanics and get ready for the ultimate time-bending challenges.

More weapons – shotguns, machineguns, grenades that change the way you play around with the time-bending mechanics.

More enemy types – thanks to improved AI the foes will use tactics and be able to work together to hunt you down.

More levels – imagine fighting in the middle of a motorway during rush hour, or close combat in an elevator – and other amazing, movie-like scenarios.

Slow-motion explosions!

Oculus Rift support. Dodge bullets flying right in front of your face and lean behind corners for increased immersion!

It’s about time we see some new innovations in FPS games. If you would like put some cash down to support SuperHot, $15 will get you Steam key as well as a DRM-free downloadable copy when the game releases. To see more pledge tiers, head on over to their Kickstarter page and have a gander.

In unexpected and exciting news, Harmonix has announced a new Kickstarter campaign to revive one of their classic titles from the PS2 era, Amplitude.

For those unfamiliar with this gem, Frequency and Amplitude were the baby steps that would eventually grow into the gaming juggernauts known as Guitar Hero and Rock Band, (or at least they were, until over saturation sent the music genre back to niche status as quickly as it rose to prominence). Anyway, rather than playing a single instrument, players would have to switch between different tracks mid song to get a whole song to play. For example, getting a sixteen beat combo on the guitar track would trigger it to play on its own for a set time. The idea was to move to the next instrument and keep the combo going. It was an innovative, rewarding system that proved to be ahead of its time.

Since Amplitude‘s release, we haven’t seen the slightest hint of its return since the PSP release of Rock Band Unplugged, (which eventually got ported to Xbox Live Arcade and PSN). With this announcement, it looks like Harmonix is heading back to basics before it resumes work on Rock Band and Dance Central, and I couldn’t be happier.

I didn’t know Brian Gallagher when he came over the house to podcast but we were best friends by the time he left. We talked about his new film Ardmore Junction, how you can help him get the film finished on his kickstarter and also discussed Sleepaway Camp.

Briefly: We’re now just a couple of weeks away from being able to see the Kickstarter funded Veronica Mars movie (either on VOD/ in theatres on March 14th, or premiering at SXSW along with the Geekscape co-produced Doc of the Dead).

It’s an event that many fans never thought they’d see, and it’s absolutely incredible how fast it came to be funded. The Veronica Mars movie became both the fastest campaign to reach both 1-million and 2-million dollars. Now, you can watch the first two minutes.

still haven’t seen the show, so I (unfortunately) don’t really have any idea what’s going on; I really wish the series was on Canadian Netflix so I could have binge-watched before the movie’s release. In any case, take a look at the movie’s opening below, and let us know where you’ll be watching the full feature!

This may be the most useful project that we’ve ever featured on Crowdfund This.

RPG’s are freaking cool. And I don’t mean Pokemon X/Y or Final Fantasy XIV or Bravely Default (even though I have all three in front of me right now and they’re all fantastic), I’m talking tabletop; Dungeons and DragonsPathfinderWarhammer, etc. Sadly, not nearly enough people have any idea where to get started when it comes to tabletop gaming.

I’m, unfortunately, one of those people. About a year and a half ago, I decided that I wanted to get into D&D. I went out and bought a shit-ton of miniatures (awesome deal on Craigslist), picked up the (now unavailable) Dungeons and Dragons Starter Set, grabbed a bunch of my friends, and… we got as far as character creation. Sure, I loved every second of it, but as soon as it came time to actually play the game, play our characters, and actually role-play, everything fell apart; people got silly, we had no idea what we were doing (even with the instructions, it was tough), and we only attempted to play one more time before much of the group decided that it wasn’t for them.

I’ve still been interested in the game since that time, but simply haven’t had an opportunity (or group) to really learn about what I was doing (and what any of it meant). Saving Throw may be just what I (and you) need to really figure things out.

Just take a look at the Kickstarter video below to get an idea of what it’s all about:

It’s really a simple idea, and I’m not sure why it hasn’t been done before, but here it is: an instructional series on how to play tabletop RPG’s. I’m in!

The project describes itself as “an instructional web-series and website, designed to teach you not only how to play, but why. We love pen & paper role-playing games and want to share that passion with you, your friends, and the world.

With over 40 years of history, RPGs can be an intimidating prospect for some geeks. And with new systems emerging each year knowing the choices and rules becomes daunting. That’s where Saving Throw comes in!

Saving Throw will teach you what you need to get started in a friendly and engaging manner where YOU are in control. Episodes will be bite-sized and shareable because we know you’ve got that life-thing that keeps getting in the way!”

'Saving Throw' hosts Ivan Van Norman, Amy Vorpahl, and Ben Dunn
‘Saving Throw’ hosts Ivan Van Norman, Amy Vorpahl, and Ben Dunn

The project is already at $6978 of its $8000 goal (a great start), but the group (including Ben Dunn, who you may recognize around these parts) has a variety of stretch goals in place to take Saving Throw even further, and you can be a part of it!

As always, there are plenty of awesome rewards up for grabs, including, shirts, bags, PDF’s, custom-written songs, producer credits, and a lot more! You probably always wanted to learn how to play RPG’s (or didn’t know that it interested you until now), and here’s your chance! You can check out the campaign page for Saving Throw here, and be sure to let us know if you back the project!

Already a tabletop gamer? What’s you’re favourite system? What are your thoughts on D&D Next? Sound out below!

We’ve all been missing our Whedonites—you know, the familiar faces we see in all of Whedon’s films/tv shows/home movies turned massive cult favorite (we’re looking at you, Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog)—and here to save the collective geekscape (see what we did there?) from the terrible pangs of withdrawal is Lust of Love, a charming romantic comedy starring Whedon alums Dichen Lachman (Dollhouse, Being Human, Last Resort), Fran Kranz (Dollhouse, The Cabin in the Woods, Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing), Enver Gjokaj (Dollhouse, The Avengers) and Miracle Laurie (Dollhouse, Any Day Now). Even Felicia Day (The Guild, Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog, Dollhouse) and Maurissa Tancharoen (Dollhouse, Dr Horrible’s Sing Along Blog) make an appearance.

Written and directed by Anton King, Lust for Love follows loveable-but-socially awkward Astor (Fran Kranz), who seeks the assistance of Cali (Dichen Lachman) when Mila (Beau Garrett) the love of his live—and Cali’s best friend—breaks up with him.

We had chance to interview Dichen Lachman on her multi-faceted role on the film: she both starred in the film and, as Producer, was instrumental in getting the movie made, including running a successful Kickstarter campaign for the initial production costs.

Q: What was about this project that interested you? What drew you to this movie?

A: I just thought it was fun. It was something we could achieve with alternative funding options. It’s rare to come across material that’s sweet and charming in this budget range—it’s normally horror films that are produced at this level—and this was just a really charming film.

Q: It’s been mentioned a few times that this seems to be a Whedonite reunion. How did that come about?

A: Well, I was new to LA when I started shooting Dollhouse, and so I made a lot of really strong, lasting, meaningful friendships. When Anton [King] said ‘Let’s do this,’ the show [Dollhouse] had been over for about a year and a half, and I thought, ‘what a wonderful opportunity to work with all these people again.’

l-r, Baeu Garrett, Fran Kranz and Dichen Lachman in Lust for Love.
l-r, Baeu Garrett, Fran Kranz and Dichen Lachman in Lust for Love.

Q: Besides acting in Lust for Love, you were also a Producer. What was that like?

A: I just learned so much, you know, even though the film is released I’m still learning. I have so much more respect for those pro-Producers, because they’re like magic, they just know. Know the right people to work with, casting, how to manage all the personalities on a set. I was learning as I went. And it was amazing, such an experience.

It was a lot of work—there’s just so much. Like rights clearance, getting music cleared. It’s really expensive. And editing—what you see on the screen is very different from what was on the page at the beginning and after watching the same sequence, you know, 100 times, it’s very hard to see the right thing to do. So I discovered how important it was to make sure to get the right voices in the room with us.

And even after the film is released, there’s so much with marketing and trying to get the film out to everyone.

When we first started talking about making the movie, I told Anton, ‘I don’t know the first thing about producing!’ and he said ‘who else is going to give you the opportunity to be a romantic lead?” And I sort of took a moment and then agreed. And it was just such a great project, we really just all fell in love with the script.

Editing Lust for Love
Editing Lust for Love

Q: That brings up a great point. The movie is very diverse and has a lot of strong female characters. Was that something that drew you to the project?

A: Well, Anton wrote some very interesting female characters, very off-beat. And really the film is very light, very charming. I didn’t really think it was doing ground-breaking work, but then I went to this screening, and this Japanese-American girl came up to me and told me that this movie had inspired her. And that meant a lot.

I mean, it does portray an Asian woman as a lead romantic character, and the opposing romantic lead [Karim Saleh as Franck] is Lebanese. But the movie never even brings up those things, they’re just people. It’s just who they are.

Q: Kickstarter has been successful for a number of smaller films seeking production funding. What was like running a Kickstarter campaign? Was it something you would use again?

A: Well, we used Kickstarter for our shooting costs, and we did have to supplement with more traditional fundraising methods. I’d never done a Kickstarter campaign before, and it was remarkable—things like Kickstarter are definitely going to change the way films like this are financed…it was just an amazing experience. It is something I would use again, with the right project.

It was a little difficult, because we had this pressure, knowing that there were fans out there that come out and supported this movie. And the development cycle is so long—three years from script to screen–so it was sometimes a problem keeping people updated with what we were doing and were we are. A lot of the time that only status was ‘still working!’ And sometimes people would be annoyed that we didn’t have any more to say. So I spent a lot of time, you know, answering emails personally and letting people know what we were doing.

The cast of Lust for Love.

Q: So, any other projects coming up?

A:  At the moment it’s really just getting this movie released and getting the word out…getting people to watch any way they can. We’ve got it streaming, and on DVD–there’s a lot of options!

Los Angeles will soon be hosting their first science fiction one-act play festival called Sci-Fest! I was able to speak with David Dean Bottrell about this unique festival. David Dean Bottrell is a veteran character actor and screenwriter probably best known for playing the creepy and psychotic “Lincoln Meyer” on season three of “Boston Legal.”  His more recent work includes oddball characters on “True Blood,” “Justified,” and “Mad Men.”  In addition, he is also an award-winning stage and short film director. Read on to learn more about Sci-Fest!

2012 Headshot - David Dean Bottrell

What is Sci-Fest? How is it different from other play festivals?

To my knowledge Sci-Fest is completely unique.  It’s the first-ever festival of one-act science fiction plays.  Once we put the word out, we received almost 400 submissions.  In the end, we picked the nine one-acts that will make up the festival.  They will be spread out over 2 evenings.  They’re all fantastic.  Sort of like 9 mini-twilight episodes.  All very different.  Some scary and disturbing.  Some hilarious.

How did it get started?

I occasionally work as a screenwriter and about 2 years ago, I happened across a short story by Ursula Le Guin called “The Wife’s Story.”   It’s this creepy tale  being told in the first person by this strange female character.  The writing is amazing and it has a fantastically unexpected, very chilling ending.  I loved it, but realized I couldn’t turn it into a movie or TV show without totally ruining it.  Then I realized it could be done as theatre — As a story being told to the audience by a compelling performer.  It was from that kernel that the idea for the whole festival sprang.  Amazingly, when we asked Ms. Le Guin for the rights, she gave them to us.  The story is going to be performed by Tony-Winner, L. Scott Caldwell who played “Rose” on the TV show, “Lost.”  I’ve seen her on stage before and I think she’s going to blow the roof off the place.

scifest2

You have some pretty big names in sci-fi attached to this project! Would you please tell us about them and how they are involved?

We already have some remarkable people on board and more seem to be signing up every day.  Some of our directors include Dan Castellaneta (“The Simpsons”), Jack Kenny (Showrunner, “Warehouse 13”) and Philippe Mora (director of “Communion,” “The Howling II & III”).  On the acting front, everyone can expect to see Tim Russ (“Star Trek: Voyager”), David Blue (“Stargate Universe”), Dean Haglund (“The X-Files”) , David H. Lawrence, XVII (“The Puppetmaster” on “Heroes”) and Adrienne Wilkinson (“Xena: Warrior Princess) who will appear in a taped segment.  We will have even more well-known Sci-Fi actors on board soon.   We’re just waiting make sure they can clear their schedules.  I’ve been astounded by the people who are expressing interest.

scifest3

scifest4

scifest6

scifest7

What is your involvement with the festival?

Well, I came up with the idea, so I guess you say I created it, but I instantly knew I couldn’t pull it off by myself.  My producing partners are Lee Costello and Michael Blaha, both of whom are very talented, experienced producing veterans.  Together, we’re sort of unstoppable.  I’m also acting in one of the shows.

What should people expect?

They should expect the unexpected!  All the shows are unique in content and style.  The subjects range from time travel to alien invasion to androids to post apocalyptic worlds.  We really managed to pick material that spans a wide range of all the sci-fi genres.

What plays will be showcased?

7 of the plays are brand new.  “The Wife’s Story” is a world premiere stage adaptation of a classic Le Guin story, but the centerpiece of the festival will be Ray Bradbury’s “Kaleidoscope” which a beautiful longer one-act that’s maybe 35 minutes long.  It’s a very compelling, poignant story about 7 astronauts adrift in space.  Basically, it’s “Gravity” but without the happy ending.  It’s truly a beautiful piece of writing.

What are you most looking forward to?

I can’t wait for opening night.  This journey has been mind-blowing already.  The response has been so amazing, we’re hoping to make the festival an annual event.

When is the festival scheduled for?

We are currently schedule to open in May 2014 at a beautiful venue in Hollywood.  Tickets will probably go on sale in early April.  More details on that soon.

Sci-Fest currently has a Kickstarter campaign running. Could you please tell us more about that?

Our Kickstarter just launched.  I’ve done these before and it’s always hair-raising since the money tends to all come in at the last second.  We had a source of funding evaporate, so we are now reaching out deep into the Sci-Fi fan base for both more major donors and for folks who are willing to help out with even a few bucks.  All donations are very welcome and it all adds up.  Yesterday we received a very generous challenge grant, so we are scrambling to match the funds!  If anybody can help out, today would be a great day to do it!  Please feel free to go to our Kickstarter page at: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sci-fest/sci-fest We would truly appreciate their support ASAP!

Where can people get more information?

To learn more, everybody can visit our website at www.Sci-Fest.com.  The can also “like” us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SciFest2014 or follow us on Twitter @SciFest2014.  This has (and continues to be) a community effort.  Together we’re going to create a truly unique and memorable festival.

This is damn cool.

Today, Machinima released the very first episode of Ghost Source Zero, a neat new sic-fi by original G.I. Joe Writer Larry Hama and Nerd Rage Productions founder Mark Cheng.

The project “takes place in the midst of the Artificial Intelligence Revolution. With Americans watching on their Living Wall flat screens and Genius Phones, Homeland Security’s Cyber Crime Division is the only thing trying to stop the ‘bots and ‘borgs from taking over, and they are so underfunded they have to allow a reality show crew to embed with them just to meet payroll-‐ forget about the pensions. But are the robots really trying to usurp humanity? Or are they just seeking a seat at the table?”

Sounds cool, huh? Well, why not watch the pilot below, and look below to learn how you can help Ghost Source Zero continue. Yep, the creators want to make even more.

Hama and Cheng would love to turn Ghost Source Zero into a film serial, so they’ve taken to Kickstarter to raise the funds. The campaign has raised a fantastic $29, 754 of its $65, 000 goal in just a few days, so it’s well on its way to becoming a reality.

The creators are looking for money to fund:

-production coordination
-locations
-travel
-audio engineering
-legal
-food
-YOUR MONEY WILL GO TOWARDS MAKING THIS FILM – AND OUR DREAMS – COME TRUE!!

Ghost Source Zero looks like a great project, and is certainly one that I’d love to see come to fruition. As always, there are plenty of amazing rewards up for grabs, including digital downloads, posters, Blu-Rays, credits, tours, costumes, and more! There’s some seriously cool stuff here.

Take a look at the project’s Kickstarter video below, and if you’re interested, head here to back the film!

Briefly: Earlier this year, the Veronica Mars movie hit Kickstarter… and was completely funded in just over 10 hours.

Apparently there are a lot of fans (Marshmallows) that want to see Kristen Bell back in the classic role, and now we know just when you’ll get that wish!

The first trailer for the film, which is titled simply Veronica Mars, has just debuted online. Now, I’ve never seen an episode of Veronica Mars before, but it’s definitely something that I’ll be looking into before the movie hits theatres this March (especially since the trailer is pretty great).

Are you a fan? Are you looking forward to the character’s return? Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you think! Veronica Mars hits VOD and theatres on March 14th.

This is super cool, and not even a little bit like Night Trap (the project even states it in its FAQ):

Contradiction is an all new murder-mystery game that uses  hundreds of short live-action video clips to create a fully interactive crime drama, in which you can move around freely, interrogate characters and trap them into confessions.

The game’s creator, Tim Follin, is no stranger to the industry. He spent years as a game musician writing music for consoles such as the ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, NES, SNES, and beyond, and for games like Ecco the Dolphin, Starsky & Hutch, and Lemmings. Now it’s Tim’s turn to create his own world, in a medium that’s never really been successful before.

The game’s current build running on an iPad

According to the project’s Kickstarter page, the game allows you to “move around at will, investigate locations, collect evidence and make notes. But the heart of the game is interviewing characters, asking them questions and spotting the lies they tell. It’s a system that’s designed to make you feel like you’re actually having a conversation that flows as quickly and naturally as it would in real life.”

It sounds like an extremely ambitious idea, and one that I really hope comes to fruition. Tim is looking for a very reasonable £10,000, and is already sitting at £1562 with 26 days remaining. He’s got a excellent shot at being successful, and of course, we can help! There are plenty of awesome rewards available for backers, including the finished product, blooper reels, your name in the credits, game music, or you could even name one of the game’s characters.

Take a look at Contradiction‘s Kickstarter video below, and head to the campaign page for more info (and of course to donate)! This is one project that I’d really love to see happen.
