Deadline reports that Corey Stoll (House Of Cards) has signed on for the lead role of ‘Dr. Ephraim Goodweather’ in the pilot for FX’s upcoming adaptation of The Strain. Del Toro will direct the pilot based on a script written by him and Chuck Hogan. Carlton Cuse (Lost) will serve as showrunner and executive producer on the project which according to the site “already has a full writing staff in place churning out scripts”. FX has reportedly already commited $500,000 to creature creation. Del Toro stated about the casting:

The-Strain-1

“To me, having the right lead for The Strain series was perhaps the most important creative task,” del Toro told the site. “To be able to secure the perfect actor in Corey Stoll sets the project on the right track. To embody a character like Ephraim Goodweather – who transitions through every emotion and situation imaginable, and which anchors the narrative of the series – requires amazing talent and craft. Corey has both in spades as he has demonstrated it over and over again.”

Actress Hayley Atwell, who portrayed Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger, recently made a semi-cryptic statement in an interview that seemingly implied that a new Marvel: One-Shot starring the character was on the way. At the Iron Man 3 red carpet premiere last night, Marvel Studios co-President Louis D’Esposito has confirmed the rumors of, stating that he had just directed a brand new One-Shot that would focus on a strong female character.

This new short will make its debut at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Last year D’Esposito’s previous One-Shot Item 47 debuted off site for a select group (that I was lucky enough to be among) through viral marketing, so you may want to keep your eyes out while walking around the area. Atwell will also reprise the role for next year’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Keep an eye for more updates to pop up over the new few months.

While attending the Hollywood red carpet premiere of Shane Black’s Iron Man 3, Yahoo Movies caught up with Joss Whedon and a took a few minutes to discuss the highly-anticipated 2015 sequel to The Avengers.

“I have actually finished a draft, we’re in a very good place. It’s going really well, eventually somebody will explain to me that it’s not. But I’ve been writing, meeting with actors, and we’re starting to storyboard and all the preliminary processes. This is the part where it’s all still fun. It’s an evolution, and that goes on all through shooting and it never stops. I’ve done enough shows and movies to be comfortable with that. You do come to a point where we all agree …‘Oh, I’ve got these two characters, two of my favorite characters from the comic books; a brother/sister act. They’re in the movie, that’s exciting.’ You lock certain things in. But then there’s a certain fluidity when you’re working with Robert [Downey Jr.]. He’s going to want to do something new on the day, and you’re going to want him to, because it’s going to be funny. So you always keep yourself open. I try not to think of it as topping The Avengers, I try to think of this as its own movie.”

“And by the way, Shane [Black] not helping! Iron Man 3 not helping! I see this and said, ‘Aw, man, he really got it right!’ The pressure continues! When Tony sees another superhero, he increases his swagger. Tony, he sees Thor, and he says, ‘Yeah, I got a suit of muscles that big. I invented it! Oh, you can pick up a hammer? You’re so special!’ He sees it as a challenge! He loves it.”

The most interesting point of this conversation was the two new character additions that Whedon mentioned. If he’s talking about actual siblings, could we see the inclusion of Wanda & Pietro Maximoff, better known as Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver? It’s already been revealed that their rights are up in the air and whichever studio, Fox or Marvel, uses them first gets first dibs. However, there are a handful of other characters that this could be implying as well. Ah, the many possibilities!

Director Marc Webb has posted his latest Twitter tease from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and it appears be some form of Oscorp diagram from someone or something called “Patient Zero”. Could this be the original spider that Richard Parker experimented on or something completely different? Could “Patient Zero” actually be Peter?

In The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

In the most recent issue of Empire Magazine, director Zack Snyder and his Producer-wife, Deborah Snyder confirm that a Justice League film is dependent on the box office success of this summer’s Man Of Steel. The director also went on to confirm that if the film does do well at the box office and Warner Bros. decides to move forward with the project, he will definitely be asked by the studio to direct.

Snyder didn’t specify whether he would accept the job or not but did show some enthusiasm towards the prospect of creating A DC Cinematic Universe.

“I have a hard time having perspective. But I have to say that it is everything that I could have hoped for. Touch wood that I am not insane, but it feels really good.”

It’s highly likely that Man Of Steel will perform well and there’s definitely a chance that we may get our first official news regarding the planned project at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

Sylvester Stallone has been talking about bringing in some “fresh blood” to the next chapter in The Expendables franchise and it appears the first piece will come in the form of the director. Stallone has  just revealed via Twitter that relatively unknown Australian director Patrick Hughes (Red Hill) is set to direct The Expendables 3.

Stallone did also go on to reveal that he did attempt to get Mel Gibson to direct the movie and was also interested in Jon Woo but things didn’t quite work out. Both Jackie Chan and Wesley Snipes are also said to be on board for roles in the upcoming threequel, but haven’t confirmed their involvement yet.

Marvel Studios and director James Gunn are currently in full swing putting together the cast of Guardians Of The Galaxy. Just yesterday it was revealed that Ophelia Lovibond had joined the film’s cast and now it’s been revealed that actor Lee Pace, who was actually up for the lead role of Peter Quill at one point, has entered into final negotiations to play the villain in the upcoming Phase Two film.

There’s currently no word at the moment which cosmic character Pace will be playing but speculation has already begun that he could be playing the character Korvac in the upcoming space-epic. We should begin to learn more as we near production starting this June.

A big space epic featuring an unlikely cast of Marvel characters, including Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Groot and Rocket Raccoon, who must team up in order to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions.

A few weeks back the actor revealed that he had a mystery project coming up and when asked by a fan if he could give a hint as to what the role was, Canto responded with:

Well, there are a few mutants that the actor could be playing but there’s a high chance that he could be playing the Brazilian mutant Roberto da Costa, aka Sunspot, who was featured in the original version of the X-Men: First Class script. We’ve heard plenty of rumors regarding the lead role in Relativity’s upcoming remake of The Crow. There’s now official word that actor Tom Hiddleston is in talks to star as Eric Draven, the role made famous in Alex Proyas 1994 cult classic by Brandon Lee, in F. Javier Gutiérrez’s (Before The Fall) remake/re-imagining of the film based of the comic series by James O’Barr. Draven is a resurrected murder victim who rises from the grave a year after his death in order to exact revenge on the thugs who murdered both him and his fiance.

The script for the film was written by Cliff Dorman (Warrior) and is scheduled to go into production this fall. Hiddleston has met with the producers of the film and even sent them a make-up test for that he did on his own in London. The actor will undergo a professional make-up test in the next few days for the film to see if he has the right look for the role.

The official website for 300: Rise Of An Empire has revealed some new images from the upcoming film that focus on the lead protagonist Themistocles, played by Sullivan Stapleton, and Artemisia, played by Eva Green.

characterposter1
characterposter2

Walking the line between savvy statesman and battle-hardened soldier, this Greek general has no illusions about what motivates men, kings or gods. He knows well how the game is played. A master strategist, Themistokles holds an unflinching vision for the glory of Greece and will do whatever it takes to realize that vision—whether leading the charge on the battlefield or subtly working his influence behind the scenes. Now, facing the onslaught of the massive Persian navy, he may be outnumbered but not out-maneuvered. Knowing there’s more at stake here than his life and the lives of his men, he will gamble everything on a daring plan that could seal the fate of Greece and the future of democracy.

Sullivan Stapleton takes on the nuanced role and describes Themistokles as a “people person,” just one of the many facets that make up this richly developed character—a man of wit and persuasive charm, as well as steely determination.

characterposter3

characterposter4

A woman commanding armies in a man’s world, this skilled and ruthless warrior—the real power behind Xerxes’ throne—knows that the rules have never applied to her. And never will. Meeting Themistokles head-on with the Persian armada, Artemisia will set the sea on fire, assaulting Greece not only for power and glory but for vengeance, the roots of which are known only to herself…and for which she is willing to sacrifice thousands and alter the fate of nations.

Bringing the volatile, vindictive and unapologetically ambitious warrior Artemisia to life is Eva Green, who says, “I love playing evil characters, but ones who are complex, and have a reason to behave in such a way… It’s always more interesting.”

Additionally, a new synopsis for the film has been released that reveals that actor David Wenham (who played Dilios in the first film) would be reprising his role in the upcoming prequel.

Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes, and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster “300,” this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistokles attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war.

“300: Rise of an Empire” pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes, and Artemisia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures present, a Cruel and Unusual Films/Mark Canton/Gianni Nunnari Production, “300: Rise of an Empire.” The action adventure stars Sullivan Stapleton (“Gangster Squad”) as Themistokles and Eva Green (“Dark Shadows,” “Casino Royale”) as Artemisia. Lena Headey reprises her starring role from “300” as the Spartan Queen, Gorgo; Hans Matheson (“Clash of the Titans”) stars as Aeskylos; David Wenham returns as Dilios, and Rodrigo Santoro stars again as the Persian King, Xerxes.

The film is directed by Noam Murro, from a screenplay by Zack Snyder & Kurt Johnstad, based on the graphic novel Xerxes, by Frank Miller. It is produced by Gianni Nunnari, Mark Canton, Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder and Bernie Goldmann. Thomas Tull, Frank Miller, Stephen Jones and Jon Jashni serve as executive producers.

The creative filmmaking team includes director of photography Simon Duggan, production designer Patrick Tatopoulos, editor Wyatt Smith and costume designer Alexandra Byrne. The music is composed by Federico Jusid.

“300: Rise of an Empire” will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company. This film is not yet rated.

300: Rise Of An Empire hits theaters August 2, 2013

Michael Bay and Jonathan Liebesman’s upcoming reboot of the franchise has already received plenty of criticisms from the online community. These initially came about from the leaking of a not-so-great script for the film (which I can confirm from a source close to production is definitely not the script that is being used) and a not-so-popular title for the film.

Well, the script for the film has been rewritten by Snow White And The Huntsman scribe Evan Daugherty and the title has been officially changed to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. A logo for the film was revealed by Paramount Pictures during their CinemaCon presentation which confirmed the title change. The upcoming film is currently in production and stars Megan Fox, Will Arnett, Danny Woodburn, Alan Ritchson, Pete Ploszek, Jeremy Howard and Noel Fisher.

Columbia Pictures has moved up the release date for director M. Night Shyamalan’s After Earth. The film, which stars Will Smith and his son Jaden, was originally set to hit theaters on June 7th has been moved up to May 31st. The film will open alongside The Purge and Now You See Me. This date change seems to come hot of the heels of the release of a new trailer for Man Of Steel, which was set to originally open shortly after. We’d be scared too after seeing that trailer.
