Disney just hosted their first Facebook live event, and while there was a graphical hiccup or 2, their announcement was pretty damn cool.

Director Rich Moore took to the stage with Wreck It Ralph co director Phil Johnston and John C. Reilly  himself to announce that Wreck It Ralph 2 is officially happening (even though Reilly accidentally announced it a couple of times.) and that the film will be releasing on March 9th, 2018, which really isn’t that far away. You can watch the full video right here on their Facebook page if you’re interested. Are you excited for the sequel? Tell us below in the comments!

Wreck It 2

Earlier this morning, Disney Animation teased fans with a special surprise.

The company took to all of their social media accounts to announce that they’ll have breaking news about their animation studio tomorrow morning at 9AM PST on Facebook.

Since then the company has stayed completely silent on it. Could it be related to a new project their working on, or maybe perhaps they’ll be announcing some Comic-Con plans.

What do you think? Leave your theories and comments down below, and stay tuned to Geekscape to find out what this breaking news is.

*WARNING: Contains minor spoilers for the two people who haven’t seen the movie.*

Chances are that you’ve probably seen Zootopia by now. I mean, once a movie makes over one billion dollars, it’s safe to say everyone has, right? But upon second viewing, Disney’s latest animated feature stands just as tall as it did when it hit theaters back in March. Following the escapades of Judy Hopps, the first bunny cop who’s stepping foot into the sprawling metropolis straight from the country, and Nick Wilde, a con-artist fox who gets pulled into Judy’s first big case, the film’s relative ease at weaving together a crime caper with social commentary on racial prejudices within a family friendly package staring anthropomorphic animals is a cinematic feat in and of itself. If for no other reason though, the Blu Ray release is worth picking up just to see how much went into making this film come to life from concept to big screen.

Zootopia Review Banner

Watching Zootopia again felt like it was my first time seeing it. Once you know what the general plot is going to be, that gives you more time to focus on the city itself, with background action that’s always interesting enough to catch your eye. Whether its the internally impatient animals waiting for their turn at the sloth run DMV, or the dozens of rodents going about their business in Little Rodentia, there’s always something going on outside of the main characters themselves. This was a major focus for the creators, making sure that they captured what they felt a city full of animals who behaved like humans would look like.

Which is why the Special Features go into a huge amount of detail about how much work it took to make Zootopia feel as authentic as possible. If you loved the movie on its own, it’s hard not to have even more admiration for it after watching how much care was put into getting things just right. The map for example, was built with real life practicality in mind, placing the deserts of Sahara Square behind the arctic Tundratown, acting as a ventilator in the same way as an air conditioner. Melted ice from Tundratwon then goes on to create the waterfalls and rain in the Rainforest District, and so on. All logic that I never would have considered as a viewer, but that makes sense in the best way a city with four different climates could.

Zootopia Image 5

Aside from the environments, the animals themselves were researched heavily, leading to multiple trips to sanctuaries like Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida to observe the behaviors of each species. The hard part comes not only from adapting said behavior to a two legged version, but to get the scale just right. While previous animal films like Disney’s Robin Hood made its animals human sized, Zootopia stays true to their actual size. So making a city where lemmings can co-exist with giraffes and elephants was a unique challenge in itself, creating structures that accounted for these differences. The attention to detail didn’t end there, considering Judy and Nick alone consist of close to 10,000 individual furs each. My hands are cramping just thinking about it.

ZOOTOPIA

Once all of these details come together, the movie’s most memorable takeaway is still its plot and the themes across its 108 minute run time. While a few scenes early on come off as heavy handed with its take on racial prejudice, Zootopia does a brilliant job of sprinkling hints of these ideas until they’re forced into the forefront of the film at the start of the third act. If Frozen‘s big twist came from the fact that its Prince Charming was a two faced villain, then Zootopia doubles down by making its main character, the one who is discriminated against through most of the film, come off as the accidental villain as she turns the town’s underlying paranoia towards predators into a full on epidemic. All of this is proceeded by a highly entertaining crime caper where the “token” bunny cop that no one believes in uses her wit to force a team up with a criminal in order to solve a series of disappearances without the resources of the ZPD. With parodies based on everything from The Godfather to Breaking Bad, there’s plenty of humor to give even more life to an already excellent plot.

It’s surprising that everything came together so well considering how different the film was when it came to its original concept, all the way to late in its development. Using a concept where all predators would have to wear collars to measure their aggression levels, Nick would have been the focus in this version as he went through life seen as a vicious con artist, whether or not it was true. With a much more in your face version of the discrimination found in the final release, Judy would eventually be added in, and even took the form of a spy film before settling on what we ended up getting. In Nick’s case however, him being seen as a threat just because he’s a fox ends up shaping him in a huge way after the revisions as well, keeping that layer of development that makes him the most tragic character in the movie.

Even after the credits have rolled, there’s still plenty to see in Zootopia. the ZPD Forensic Files highlight many of the film’s easter eggs, many of which I had completely missed the first time around. Hidden Mickey’s, Pascal from Tangled, and a couple of elephants who are big fans of Anna and Elsa are just a few of the secrets that flew completely over my head. In depth interviews with the animators, a music video for Shakira’s Try Everything, (as famous pop star, Gazelle,) and a set of deleted scenes and characters in the form of the Gerbil Jerks, round out the full feature set of one of the best movies Disney has ever produced.

Zootopia Image 4

Aside from some heavy handed dialogue early on and Gazelle being placed on a pedestal, (I get wanting to get mileage out of Shakira, but why was she the ONLY voice of reason outside of Judy in the two minutes of screen time she had?), Zootopia could be looked back on as the best film Disney has ever produced. With plenty of visual humor, striking environments and cute, charming characters to keep the kids entertained while the adults ponder the expertly woven themes found in the film, not only is there something for everyone, but everything it does is done to the best of its ability. The special features only further prove how much passion went into getting this just right, and they succeeded in every way. Good job, Disney. You’ve delivered another masterpiece!

Final Score: 5/5

Anyone who saw Zootopia since it released in March, (and considering it just passed the $1 billion mark, chances are that you have,) surely caught at least some of its many easter eggs, which ranged from references covering everything from Frozen to Breaking Bad. But as an ongoing Disney tradition, the film also had a series of of hidden Mickey’s scattered around its sprawling animal metropolis.

In this teaser trailer for one of the special features on the film’s upcoming home release, this clip reveals just a few of the Mickey logos that were placed throughout the movie. Did you catch the one in Clawhauser’s fur? Or how about in his cereal? The clip alone shows some very obscure locations for these icons, so chances are that even with the ones shown here, there will still be plenty sprinkled throughout for fans to comb over for the months going forward.

Let us know what other Hidden Mickey’s you’ve spotted on your own, as well as your favorite Zootopia easter eggs you’ve spotted through your viewings. Zootopia will release on DVD, Blu Ray and for digital download on June 7.

Briefly: Wow.

I don’t really even remember Disney’s animated Beauty and the Beast, but this looks freaking stunning.

Disney has just debuted the very first teaser trailer for next year’s live action version, which boasts an all-star cast consisting of Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as the Beast, Luke Evans as Gaston, the handsome, but shallow villager who woos Belle, Kevin Kline as Maurice, Belle’s eccentric, but lovable father, Josh Gad as Lefou, Gaston’s long-suffering aide-de-camp, Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, the candelabra, Stanley Tucci as Maestro Cadenza, the harpsichord, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, the feather duster, Audra McDonald as Madame Garderobe, the wardrobe, Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, the mantel clock, and Emma Thompson as the teapot, Mrs. Potts.

Yep, what a cast, and what a gorgeous teaser. You can take a look at the video below, and be sure to let us know what you think! Beauty and the Beast hits theatres on March 17th, 2017!

Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is a live-action re-telling of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs. “Beauty and the Beast” is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within.

Today, a bit of everyone’s childhood has died.

Alan Young, most known for his roles as Mr. Ed and Uncle Scrooge on DuckTales, has sadly left us today. The legendary VA passed late Thursday night due to natural causes. While sad, it should be noted that Young was 96, which is a very long time. One of his last performances was in the 2013 console remake DuckTales: Remastered and a small role in a couple of Paul Ruddish’s excellent Mickey Mouse shorts(which will be linked below). While Young has finally ascended to that money bin in the sky, one things for certain: he was and will always be the one and only Uncle scrooge. May you rest in peace good sir.

Some unexpected and sad news has just broken.

Today, Disney has announced that due to continued decline in sales, they have decided to cancel their Disney Infinity series. Not just this, but they also revealed that they will be exiting console game publishing altogether. This is a pretty big blow, not just for toys to life, but also for the games industry itself as an entire publisher exits stage left.

Infinity launched on August 18th 2013, and was made to directly compete with the mega hit Skylanders franchise. If you’d like to read more you can find the company’s concession post right here. What do you think of Disney Infinity’s cancellation? Do you think Disney should completely leave the game console market?

Besides fan blogs’ accounts of constructions at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom, news of progress on Pandora, the upcoming area in Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom themed to James Cameron’s AVATAR, have been few and far between. Okay, they have been pretty much nonexistent. The Official Disney Parks Blog finally posted some snippets and photos earlier today and I must say I am disappointed.

AVATAR flora

Let’s be honest: the “buzz” surrounding AVATAR has all but fizzled out. I get that company money is a tad scarce lately (blame Shanghai Disneyland) but they really should have put more focus on opening this “land” sooner. And to make matters worse, these images of ambitious concepts are making the already far-off 2017 opening window look unrealistic.

AVATAR floor

Don’t get me wrong; I would love to be proven incorrect about Pandora. I am a huge Disney fan and fervently want the Parks to succeed. But I can’t see this business move as anything but a mistake.

Briefly: Zootopia was a freaking masterpiece.

Sadly, it was also a film that I largely ignored until it released to critical fanfare and essentially filled my Facebook news feed with praise.

I still don’t know a lot about the film (aside from the fact that it was awesome), which is why I’m beyond excited to watch this just released 45-minute long documentary chronicling the creation of this year’s best animated film.

“What did it take to bring the world of ‘Zootopia’ to life? Fusion spent two years with the production team of Disney’s smash hit film. In ‘Imagining Zootopia,’ you will travel with the team to Africa to explore the animals in their natural habitat and find out how the storytellers and animators dealt with the very real themes of prejudice and bias.”

Briefly: Following the first trailer for Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book from back in January, Disney has just released a series of incredible promotional images for the film, which show off the stunning characters alongside their respective voice actors.

Directed by Jon Favreau (“Iron Man”), based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, “The Jungle Book” is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat.

Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley), and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray). Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johansson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire.

The all-star cast also includes Lupita Nyong’o as the voice of the fiercely protective mother wolf Raksha, and Giancarlo Esposito as the voice of wolf pack’s alpha male Akela. “The Jungle Book” seamlessly blends live-action with photorealistic CGI animals and environments, using up-to-the-minute technology and storytelling techniques to immerse audiences in an enchanting and lush world.

After years of teasing and empty promises, it looks like Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg will be teaming up once again for a 5th Indiana Jones movie. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, they had this to say:

“Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019,” said Disney chairman Alan Horn. “It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”

Series veterans Kathleen and Frank Marshall are set to produce. Not much else is known about the movie other than it’s scheduled to premiere July 19th, 2019. Are you excited about a new Indiana Jones movie? Which of the 4 films is your favorite?

As reported by Disney, Big Hero 6 is returning back as a tv show for the brother network Disney XD in 2017.

The series will pick up immediately after the events in the film. Hiro is now the newest prodigy at San Fransokyo Institute of Technology. The show will focus on two aspects the daunting academic and social challenges of being the big/little man on campus and the challenges Off campus, as the stakes are raised for Big Hero 6 as they must protect their city from an array of scientifically enhanced villains.

No word yet on the villains, but hopefully we can get some Marvel bad guys and get some animated character  synergy. This is a Marvel property after all, even if it is separate from the MCU. At the least, can we get another Stan Lee cameo!?!

This week on Monday Music we have a nice treat for all the geeks out there. Disney has teamed up with record producer Rick Rubin to create a Star Wars inspired compilation album, and what we have seen so far is outstanding.

Head Space features a trove of well known electronic music producers. Most of you will recognize artists like Flying Lotus and Röyksopp right off the bat, but I can tell you that the entire group of people involved are some of the best. Head Space get’s inspiration and elements from all of the Star Wars films. C-3PO’s Plights features samples of the droid lamenting existence, as well as blaster shots from the movies. Baauer’s Cantina Boys gets really dirty with some classic samples you will immediately recognize.

What is very interesting to note is the Rick Rubin/A-Trak Re-Work of the song Jabba Flow from The Force Awakens. The original artist, Shag Kava, is actually J.J. Abrams and Lin-Manuel Miranda!

You will not be disappointed with this release. Check out the track list below.

1. C-3P0’s Plight – Kaskade

2. Help Me! – GTA

3. Force – TroyBoi

4. Cantina Boys – Baauer

5. Jabba Flow: Rick Rubin Re-Work (feat. A-Trak) – Shag Kava

Ten years ago when High School Musical premiered, what should have been a throwaway made for TV Disney Channel movie ended up becoming a phenomenon among tweens and tweens at heart. As the latter, at the ripe old age of mid 20’s, a trip to Amoeba Music saw me walk out with a cheap Blu Ray copy of High School Musical 2 out of curiosity. From that point on, I was hooked, consuming everything I could as long as it had to do with the East High Wildcats. Because while the idea seems crazy now that we live in a world with such films as Big Hero 6, Wreck It Ralph and Frozen, there was a time when Disney was having a hard time recapturing the magic that many of us grew up with. For many of us however, HSM came the closest in years to replicate those whimsical musicals I grew up with, effectively becoming its own renaissance for a new generation. Without our obsession with East High, there might not have been a Glee, or this renewed interest in the arts in schools, which is an amazing achievement in itself.

This is huge praise, I know. But before you roll your eyes too hard, know that there’s a reason why the ten year anniversary of the first film is being lauded so much. As the franchise that launched the careers of superstars like Zac Efron, and… Zac Efron, these modest musicals have left an undeniable impact on those who fell in love with Troy, Gabriella, Chad, Taylor, Ryan and Sharpay so long ago, mostly thanks to the music featured in the films.  To celebrate the 10 year anniversary of its debut, we compiled the top 10 songs from the franchise! But first…

Honorable Mentions:

Before we show 0ur East High pride with our main list, two songs that didn’t make the original cuts of the first two movies deserve a shout out. One for being one of the most vocally impressive songs on the entire soundtrack, and the other one for being completely embarrassing, which is quite a feat when you’re a grown man watching HSM.

I Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You

This bonus track on the first movie’s soundtrack is one of my favorite songs in the entire series for the the fact that it really shows off how well Lucas Grabeel, (Ryan Evans,) can belt out a tune. Despite Ashley Tisdale, Vanessa Hudgens and the melded hybrid of Zac Efron and alternate Troy voice, Drew Seeley are typically the main focus, it was great to hear Lucas shine in this underrated track.

Humuhumunukunukuapua’a

The one song on the entire soundtrack that could simultaneously make you question your taste in entertainment while annoying the crap out of everyone around you. For this reason, Humuhumu is endearing in a strange way. It’s a dumb song, but try not to laugh at yourself while singing along with Sharpay as Ryan’s frustration continues to boil over. Seriously, try it!

Now, on to the celebration! After painstakingly drilling the soundtrack into my ears and pouring dozens of minutes into deep deliberation, here is the definitive High School Musical song list on Geekscape!

10. Stick To The Status Quo

As the song that sets the tone for the rest of the films going forward, Stick To The Status Quo gives the majority of the secondary cast their only time to show off their vocal prowess while making the main characters look REALLY judgemental. In addition to introducing us to Martha, the pop and locking nerd, and Zeke, the jock who loves to bake, it gave us the stoner kid playing the air cello! As one of the big mysteries surrounding HSM, he was never to be seen again. I guess we really aren’t all in this together, especially if you fail a drug test.

9. Now Or Never

One of HSM‘s trademarks is its awesome basketball themed musical numbers. Benefiting from the much higher production budget of the theatrically released High School Musical 3, Now Or Never is like Get Your Head In The Game on steroids. Serving as a high energy introduction leading to the final movie while showing off a badass Troy casually walking through a crowded court while no-look passing, the introduction of the new main character, Jimmy Zara, and Gabriella willing her man out of an asthma attack through the power of song, and you get one of the most memorable scenes in the franchise.

8. I Just Want To Be With You

Naturally, considering all three films are essentially love stories, you can expect duet after duet between the two leads. But while HSM 3 excelled with some incredible ballads between Troy and Gabriella with songs like Right Here, Right Now, and Can I Have This Dance, I Just Want To Be With You had the benefit of hitting an emotional high as the last time we saw the Romeo and Juliet of East High, (minus the suicide,) share a stage together. And did they sure make it count, with simple, yet strong choreography that made you feel like they only had eyes for each other. I mean, I’m sure the fact that Hudgens and Efron were dating at the time didn’t hurt.

7. What I’ve Been Looking For

An often overlooked track in the original film, this song was the how we were introduced to Sharpay and Ryan Evans, the mean girl, (and boy,) of East High. In this alternate universe where the theater majors were the most popular kids in the school, they immediately show why they’re at the top of the ladder with a fast paced, vocally strong track that’s over way too soon. Troy and Gabriella get their own rendition right after, but to anyone with ears, (which apparently excludes Ms. Darbus, the drama teacher,) the Evans kids blew them out of the water this time.

6. Start Of Something New

As the most appropriately named song in the series, Start of Something New is what launched the phenomenon, when an innocent karaoke session turned into the love story of our time. With instant chemistry between Efron and Hudgens, it was impossible not to get sucked into this scene, ignoring certain peculiarities as to how Troy suddenly knew the lyrics half way through despite being glued to the lyrics screen at first, or how this teenage New Year’s party didn’t have a drop of alcohol in sight. Easily one of the most iconic moments across all three films, I can’t think of a better way to hook the audience in. Considering we’re still talking about the movies 10 years later, it did an amazing job, regardless of whether or not it was actually Zac singing.

5. Gotta Go My Own Way

I wasn’t a huge fan of Gabriella’s other solo songs, but MY GOD does this song send you into a downward spiral of sadness. Gotta Go My Own Way accomplishes two things; it further proves that Efron and Hudgens have amazing on screen chemistry through their singing, as well as their acting. I mean Zac alone has this way of showing 1000 different emotions with one longing stare, that’s enough to make our hearts melt when we’re not throwing our underwear at the screen. It’s kind of silly when you realize this song is really just Gabriella quitting her job and going home as opposed to an actual break up song, but that doesn’t make it any less sad when you watch it.

4. Work This Out

Easily my favorite ensemble track, Work This Out has an infectious type of energy that’s only matched by its addicting choreography. I know I can’t be the only one who memorized the steps to this work anthem, one which serves so many purposes. Need an awesome work out song? Bust out the moves at the squat rack and become the envy of the gym! Need a pick me up when life isn’t going your way? Let Troy and company convince you that you can push through it. Do you hate your job? Use Work This Out as a way to convince yourself to just deal with it, no matter how miserable you are! I mean, if the infinitely happy East High kids can get hate work and get through it, then what’s your excuse?

3. Bet On It

The song that made me consider paying for golf just to prance around on the greens, Bet On It gets credit for being awesome in spite of itself. Some of the most flamboyant dance moves you’ll ever see accompany over dramatic angst and awful special effects while exclaiming that Troy won’t lose himself in his pursuit of his basketball dreams. Yet, between every aggressive camera point and grain of sand thrown, it somehow manages to be amazing despite its cheesiness, with one of Efron’s most addicting performances to date. I mean, how can you hate a song that gave us this?

HSM Bet On It 2

Or this?

HSM BEt On It 1

How about this?

HSM Bet On It 3

An unsubstantiated rumor says this scene took all day to shoot and ate up most of High School Musical 2‘s budget. I say it was money well spent.

2. Breaking Free

Out of the numerous duets throughout the films, Breaking Free is easily the standout between all of them. Foiling the plans of their rivals in the Evans twins and even their own friends who were selfishly trying to keep them away from singing to focus on basketball and math… stuff, Troy and Gabriella blow the songs up to that point out of the water with a breathtaking performance that includes such feats as Efron’s pants soaking moonwalk, or Gabriella’s mysteriously disappearing lab coat. I mean, even Troy’s hard ass dad can’t help but be impressed. If Start of Something New was what got our foot in the door, Breaking Free kicked it down, capturing the magic that helped the series become a phenomenon.

1. Scream

Yet, above all else, Scream captures everything there is to love about High School Musical. Effeminate dance moves, a rain storm of basketballs, Zac Efron with his shirt off… I mean, what isn’t there to like? If that wasn’t enough, spinning rooms, punching balls, banging on lockers, a sudden thunder storm and faster stair walking than I could ever hope to achieve help create the closest we ever got to an aggressive version of Troy. Thanks again to the expanded budget of a theatrical film, this High School Musical 3 standout resonated with me in a big way, as the East High star was forced to decide between his lifelong love of basketball and his newfound love of theater. Of course, with Gabriella moving away to college, this number would lead to Troy making his ultimate decision, one that would see these characters off into the sunset, as we would soon after say goodbye to these characters as they moved on to college without us.

So from the screams, to the status quo and everything in between, those are our top 10 High School Musical songs. Was there anything we missed, or something we were completely off base with? It seems like January is just that month for Celebrity Deaths

Not only did we lose the incredible Alan Rickman today, but it seems another death may have been overlooked as well. That person is Brian Bedford who’s most popular for portraying Robin Hood in Disney’s Robin Hood. The iconic actor died late Wednesday from cancer. It’s been tough this week with the consecutive losses of Bowie, Rickman, and now Bedford, but we shouldn’t be mourning their lose. Instead, we should be thinking about how amazing lives they led while they were still alive and how many were inspired by them to go on and do greater things. These people may be lost to us now, but they’ll never be lost to time.

Briefly: More gorgeous footage from a beautiful-looking feature.

I’ve never actually seen Disney’s original The Jungle Book, but with an incredible cast like this one, and some absolutely fantastic footage to back it up, you better believe that I’m excited for this one.

The Jungle Book also looks absolutely built for 3D, and I’m at my happiest when a film has an effective, well thought out 3D version.

The April 15th feature stars Scarlett Johansson, Idris Elba, Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Giancarlo Esposito, Christopher Walken, Lupita Wyong’o, and more, and is directed by Iron Man and Chef‘s Jon Favreau.

Take a look at the new, extended trailer below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the film!

How fanatical am I? Not too much—I mean, I don’t go around dressed up in costume or anything—although my hot neighbor (who I’m carpooling to the theater with and who thinks this is film isn’t any more significant than say, The Scorch Trials) immediately asks, “Han Solo?” Guess I nailed it, subtly.

Here I am, ready to head to the theater.

The real benefit to seeing something as soon as it comes out isn’t just to avoid spoilers, it’s also great because your expectations have been formed strictly between yourself and the film’s marketing team. There have been more than a few times when a film’s accumulated hype left me disappointed with the actual delivery—the product of unchecked adoration from the fanbase. Returning to such a film years later, my expectations palate cleansed, I find it to be much more enjoyable. Sometimes, a lot of bad reviews will having me dragging my feet to see something; only to realize, when I finally do see it, it’s just my cup of awesome.

My aim here is to provide your expectations a solid baseline—something you can hang onto in the oncoming storm of reviews and reactions that will be thrust at you from all sides now—until you’re able to see it for yourself and enjoy forming your own genuine experience and reaction, good or bad.

Again, all spoiler free, cause I hate when the beans are spilled beforehand—Star Wars: The Force Awakens is everything we need it to be. It is an organic extension of the galaxy far far away constructed in episodes IV, V and VI. Satisfaction, excitement and anticipation are the words in play. Some of the more elaborate wish fulfillment that might’ve taken place is instead solid and healthy story development as a new generation rightly takes the reins of the galaxy.

The tropes and mechanics you want are all there. The comedy is fitting with the proper Star Wars tone; as is the drama, story dynamics, character development and interactions—which were sadly all lost in the prequel trilogy. The action and cinematography are taken up a notch without violating what came before. So the production is very solid, any remaining uncertainty is only to what degree the story will resonate with you.

Zero complaints for me—although, the end result feels a bit more “The Empire Strikes Back” in that it leaves you hungry for more—which isn’t a bad thing! My expectations were already at a level where they wouldn’t have been fully slaked unless I left the theater having finally been taught to use the force and handed my very own genuine lightsaber. Again, short of becoming a literal Jedi in just over two hours, it was everything I needed it to be. I’m looking forward to watching it again and again, picking up all the little things I’m sure I missed during this first viewing.

Bottom line? No regrets. Looking forward to seeing it many more times. I think Star Wars: The Force Awakens is very hard to dislike—unless you believe in general that movies pretty much suck and sci-fi/fantasy anything is rather stupid (in which case we probably wouldn’t be having this conversation anyway and I wonder why you’ve read this far in the first place—good luck with your sad life).

Star Wars!

Here I am, in the theater’s parking garage afterwards. Because. . . the force?

It’s Christmas time! Well, not quite. But it sure feels that way knowing that a new Star Wars movie is only a few days away! To help get us prepped, comic book writer and artist and all around storyteller Yehudi Mercado arrives on the show! Beyond our excitement for ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, we also talk about the new trailers for ‘Star Trek Beyond’, ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ and ‘TMNT: Out of the Shadows’! Also what is Disney Playmation and is ‘Krampus’ an instant Christmas classic?

Briefly: Last night Marvel surprised all of us by debuting the very first action-packed trailer for next year’s Captain America: Civil War on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

The trailer features Cap and Bucky buddy-buddy once again, a fantastic line from Iron Man about an ailing friendship, and much, much more.

Marvel has since released three new one-sheets for the anticipated flick, bearing the tagline ‘Divided We Fall’, and showcasing Cap and Iron Man, naturally, fighting each other.

The movie looks cool as hell (if not Marvel’s standard-at-this-point way too busy), and these posters are worthy additions to the film’s just-beginning marketing campaign. I’m sure we’ll see about 40,000 more posters for this one before the film releases next May, and I’d sure hope that the rest of them could look as good as these three.

Take a look at the images below, and be sure to let us know, whose side are you on?

“Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Briefly: Well, I certainly didn’t expect to get off of a train and have this waiting for me.

Following the official word that Doctor Strange has begun production, Marvel debuted the very first trailer for next year’s Captain America: Civil War on tonight’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Now, I know it’s almost Thanksgiving in the US, so I have to say that I’m damned thankful for this trailer, as crap is it cool.

Briefly: It’s times like these that I wish I didn’t live all the way up in Canada.

The sights and sounds were all absolutely incredible, and we’re happy to bring some photos from our pal Andrzej’ phenomenal visit to a galaxy (not that) far, far away.

Take a look at the gallery below, and let us know if you’ll be visiting Disneyland this holiday season.

Briefly: It’s about damned time.

Following last week’s weird-as-hell live-action trailer, EA has finally (on the eve of the game’s release, no less) detailed just what Star Wars: Battlefront‘s pricey season pass will contain.

The pass will run you $50, and will, first of all, give you a two-week head start on each of the game’s four upcoming expansions. It also includes:

-Over 20 new pieces of galactic tech including weapons, vehicles, and Star Cards for both Rebels and Imperials (what the heck is a Star Card)
-4 more heroes and villains for you to fight as or against
-16 additional multiplayer maps featuring new locations
-4 exciting new game modes
-Exclusive “Shoot First” emote

Seeing as the core Battlefront experience features just 13 maps (and only one large map for each planet), it seems like a fairly substantial expansion. That being said, is Battlefront just coming out of the gates light with content?

In any case, it’s still going to sell like crazy, and seeing as EA hinted at Battlefront sequels today, it’s pretty clear that the franchise is (this time) here to stay.

Take a look at the game’s launch trailer below, and let us know if you’re going to be picking up the season pass!

Briefly: It feels as though it was just yesterday that Disney/Pixar debuted the first poster for next year’s Finding Dory (it was), and today the company has launched the first teaser trailer to go with it.

The trailer debuted this morning, naturally, on Ellen DeGeneres’ EllenTube, and even from this hilarious, brief first footage, its clear that Finding Dory should easily match the tone, heart, and humour of Finding Nemo.

As announced at D23, the film “reunites Dory with friends Nemo and Marlin on a search for answers about her past. What can she remember? Who are her parents? And where did she learn to speak Whale? Also featuring the voices of Albert Brooks, Diane Keaton and Eugene Levy, Disney·”

Pixar hit a home run with this Summer’s Inside Out, and I already know that I’ll be bawling my eyes out when The Good Dinosaur hits theatres later this month. That said, Finding Nemo remains one of my favourite animated films of all time, and as such, I’m incredibly excited to see some footage from this one.

Take a look at the trailer below, and be sure to let us know what you think! Finding Dory swims into theaters on June 17, 2016.

Briefly: I… don’t know what to make of this trailer.

Yep, the fact that we’re even getting a new Star Wars Battlefront all these years later is pretty amazing (even with all of the game’s apparent limitations), and while I can’t wait to get my hands on it, I can’t help but feel as though this trailer is far more weird than it is interesting.

It’s essentially more than one minute of watching people get raptured… followed by everyone’s beloved Anna Kendrick awkwardly delivering a Star Wars line before getting raptured herself.

The music builds throughout the trailer, and its then revealed that they’re all being raptured to a far better world than our own; one filled with endless Star Wars battles.

In any case, you can take a look at the odd-as-hell video below, and be sure to let us know if you plan to pick up Star Wars Battlefront when it launches on November 17th!

Briefly: We haven’t heard a lot from the Finding Dory front in quite some time now (aside from a little bit of news at this year’s D23), but today Disney has debuted the very first teaser poster for its anticipated sequel, and it’s pretty damned adorable.

Whether you’re ready or not, Star Wars Battlefront is just around the corner. Along with keeping the hype train rolling with character posters for The Force Awakens, EA is doing their part by steadily release promos for their upcoming game.

Each tour takes you though one of four planets. After choosing a planet, you’ll be prompted with an interactive menu that allows you to explore aspects about the gameplay and maps.

Check it all out here!

Star Wars Battlefront is set to release on November 17th!

It’s been 5 years since our last foray with Alice In Wonderland and today the first full trailer for the sequel debuted online. ‘Alice Through The Looking Glass’ returns with most of the cast — among them Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Mia Wasikowska and Helena Bonham Carter and the voices of Stephen Fry, Alan Rickman and Michael Sheen. This time Tim Burton is not directing, and James Bobin (Muppets) will have that honor.

Newcomer Sacha Baron Cohen plays Time, who is part-human, part-clock. When Alice returns to Wonderland, she must go on a quest to borrow the Chronosphere, a metallic globe inside the Grand Clock’s chamber. This sends her into the past, where she comes across friends and enemies at different points in their lives, and a race to save Depp’s Hatter before time runs out.

Disney’s ‘Alice Through The Looking Glass’ is in theaters May 27!
