Briefly: It seems as though a version of Batman: Arkham Origins is headed to nearly every game-playing device on the planet. Warner Bros. has announced that a mobile edition of Batman: Arkham Origins will be coming to iOS and Android devices this holiday season.

Developed by NetherRealm Studios, who recently released the phenomenal Injustice: Gods Among Us, and also developed the 2011 iOS title Batman: Arkham City LockdownOrigins looks like a great evolution of their previous mobile Batman title.

You’ll play as Batman as he fights his way through Gotham City’s most dangerous locales and encounters a number of DC Comics’ most deadly assassins. As you progress, you’ll be able to upgrade your character’s skills and fighting tactics, but you’ll also be able to unlock a number of unique Batsuits by earning in-game currency and rewards, and fans that also own a console version of the game will be able to access exclusive bonus content that is not available elsewhere.

Batman: Arkham City Lockdown was a fantastic mobile experience, and a great on-the-go companion to Arkham City. The game felt a lot like Infinity Blade (which isn’t a bad thing), but definitely had a certain charm that’s present with all NetherRealm titles. If you haven’t played it already, I’d definitely recommend giving Arkham City Lockdown a download, as it’ll give you a great idea of what the Arkham Origins mobile game will feel like.

Watch the first trailer for the mobile version of Batman: Arkham Origins below, and let us know what you think!

Briefly: With just over a month to go until Batman: Arkham Origins hits stores, Warner Bros. Interactive has debuted a new trailer for the game showcasing the Deathstroke Challenge Pack that’s included with preorders.

The pack includes (of course) Deathstroke as a playable character (complete with three costumes), a 100-to-1 mode, and two exclusive challenge maps. The pack looks like a lot of fun, and should definitely be able to sway a few people into preordering.

Take a look at the new trailer below, and let us know if you’re excited! atman: Arkham Origins hits PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and Wii U (sans multiplayer) on October 25th!

Batman: Arkham Origins features an expanded Gotham City and introduces an original prequel storyline occurring several years before the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City. Taking place before the rise of Gotham City’s most dangerous villains and assassins, the game showcases a young, raw, unrefined Batman as he faces a defining moment in his early career as a crime fighter that sets his path to becoming the Dark Knight. As the story unfolds, witness identities being formed and key relationships being forged.

After a lengthy bidding war, FOX has acquired the rights to create the television series, “Gotham,” based on the popular DC comics Batman universe.

The show, which is being developed by Bruno Heller, creator of CBS’ “The Mentalist,” will be about a younger Jim Gordon, still a detective in the Gotham Police Department. Bruce Wayne/Batman will not make an appearance, but the show will have other characters and villains from the Batman universe.

The Commissioner Gordon character was introduced in Detective Comics (1939) as a supporting character to Batman and has remained virtually unchanged ever since. Armed with his signature bushy, salt and pepper mustache, Gordon is one of Batman’s most loyal allies in the fight for justice in Gotham City. He was most famously portrayed by Gary Oldman in the Christopher Nolan ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy.

Personally, I think this could be a potentially great series and a great avenue of exploration for the DC universe. Gordon is one of my favorite characters in the series and it will be interesting to see how they fill the void without Batman in the picture. I’ve been looking forward to a grittier ‘Law & Order’ direction for the Batman franchise, so we can see how the criminal justice system in Gotham functions (or doesn’t). I hope we’ll also get to visit other Gotham locations like Arkham Asylum or The Iceberg Lounge.

Briefly: This is damn cool.

The Dark Knight Trilogy: Ultimate Collector’s Edition is set to hit stores this Tuesday, and one of the great new special features just so happens to be Christian Bale’s screen test for Batman Begins. He performs complete in Batman Forever Batsuit, and even auditions opposite Amy Adams.

It’s really neat to finally be seeing this all these years later. On an interesting note, it appears that Bale’s oft-revered / oft-hated Batman voice is present in the audition, albeit in a toned-down form.

Take a look at the audition below, and let us know what you think!

PAX Prime is over and it’s time to sift through the ashes! The brain trust of Noah Roman, Garrett Medina and Ash Paulsen join me this week to discuss everything that they witnessed in Seattle! What were the highlights from the weekend? How is PAX different than E3? Is the 2DS still a joke? What games are we looking forward to the most? Were there any indies that jumped out? Does Garrett play too much Pokémon? And Ash and Garrett talk about meeting Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune! It’s a packed episode of video game talk so you’re not going to want to miss it!

Jacob Lopez is Geekscape’s longest running videogame writer! Six years ago, Jacob (known as Jake108 around these parts) asked to do a preview of Halo 3 for the site and the rest is history. Now on the verge of GTA 5, Batman Arkham Origins and the rest of the Fall releases, Jake and I sit down to talk about what’s exciting and not so exciting. We also provide an update on the PS4 vs XBox One debate and discuss the drawbacks of buying on Day 1 Also, Josh Jackson calls in to offer his 2 cents on the debate and talk about why he’s not going to replay Wind Waker and a familiar Geekscapist calls in to talk about removing my skin! Yippee!

Briefly: I felt pretty iffy about Batman: Arkham Origins: Blackgate when it was first announced. A sidescrolling, hand-held only spinoff of the franchise to be released on the same day as its console brethren felt like a simple cash-grab, and a way to monetize those without a home console.

How wrong I was. Blackgate looks bad-ass.

A new trailer takes us through Blackgate‘s plot (which sadly sounds nearly identical to Arkham Asylum), and gives us a good look into the gameplay. I’m not sure if the cutscenes shown are directly from the game, or created just for the marketing, but I seriously hope they’re in the final product as they look wonderful.

Take a look at the short trailer below, and let us know what you think! Batman: Arkham Origins: Blackgate hits 3DS and PS Vita on October 25th! Maybe this will finally give me a reason to dust off the ol’ Sony handheld.

Last week, the internet exploded all over itself on the news of Ben Affleck being cast as Batman in Zach Snyder’s sequel to Man of Steel; mostly I saw pure rage and incredulity. “Ben Affleck is a terrible Batman!” yelled multiple sources. Hmm… the last time that I saw such outrage over casting news was when some no-talent pretty-boy was cast as The Joker. And we all know how that turned out. Also, let’s not forget that schlub Michael Keaton being cast as the original Tim Burton Batman! That was a disaster! We’re talking Mr. Mom, here! The Internet has a very short memory as far as these things go. According to the mass culture, every casting idea is the worst ever until it actually works. Remember the rage of Daniel Craig as James Blond? And here the Bond franchise just released its strongest performing movie of all time (unadjusted for inflation).

Yep, you all hated him too.
Yep, you all hated him too.

But this isn’t a polemic on how the internet masses go far too insane over casting news. Instead, I’d like to propose an idea that might just make the internet lose their minds (again): Ben Affleck should take over complete creative control of the Batman franchise. Outside of the serials from the 1940s, there are 8 widely available Batman films that anybody can pick up at a video store. There was the Batman movie from Adam West’s delightfully campy adventures in the mid-60s TV show, followed by two Tim Burton films, two by Joel Schumacher, and three by Christopher Nolan. Which ones do people remember the most fondly? The ones by Burton and Nolan. These films all have a seriousness and darkness in tone that Schumacher’s lacked and was not a part of the 60s TV series. Even Burton’s moments of humor were dark and sometimes quite disturbing, as he was heavily influenced by not only Frank Miller’s mature The Dark Knight Returns, but also Grant Morrison and Dave McKean’s dark Arkham Asylum series.

Each of these different directors left their marks on the series, and each Bat-Actor has brought something unique to the role as well. Michael Keaton managed to play the parts of Bruce Wayne and Batman in an almost understated, quirky way. This made the “let’s get nuts” scene seem downright frightening! Val Kilmer was a bit more straightforward, almost reserved, and ended up almost not bringing anything noteworthy to the role while a newly movie starred George Clooney was unable to be taken seriously, what with the nipples, one liners and everything. Then there’s Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne, arguably the best yet, with his perfect balance of privileged heir and dark knight. His Batman was borderline psychotic, as it should have been, because what sane person dresses as a bat and fights crime?

Those are nipples alright.
Those are nipples alright.

And now we have Ben Affleck, playing an older Batman in his forties. Will he be portraying the more Neal Adams Detective Comics version of Batman? Will there be a more somber tone to this entry given Batman’s age? With Affleck’s background as a director of mystery films like Gone Baby Gone and The Town, will we finally get the detective aspect of Batman on film? Just which Batman will Affleck be?

Ultimately, it’s impossible to be a Batman purist given how many interpretations we’ve had of the character; from the original Detective Comics, to Denny O’Neil, to Frank Miller, but I believe it is safe to say that the more serious and darker edged Batman films are the ones that the public craves. And who better to take on the task of helping to craft a serious series of films based on this character than Ben Affleck? He co-wrote and directed two serious and critically acclaimed crime films based on previously published works. Having read Gone Baby Gone, it’s clear to me that Affleck understands how to use the most important details from the source material and still remain faithful to the spirit of it, even while making some major changes. The Town was adapted from Prince of Thieves by Chuck Hogan, a crime thriller that was one of the best heist films since Heat (a comparison which can also be made with The Dark Knight). And then there is Argo, Affleck’s period piece about the Iranian hostage crisis, which shows that his first two films were no flukes. While he did not write Argo, the writing on his first two directorial efforts was strong, mature, and made for spellbinding films. It is rumored that Affleck will have some input on the screenplay for this upcoming Superman sequel. This can only be a good thing given his writing chops. He does, after all, have an Academy Award for co-writing Good Will Hunting.

Can we forgive him for this one yet?
Can we forgive him for this one yet?

And Affleck’s skill behind the camera is undeniable after three critical knockouts. In front of the camera, well, he needs to be directed by the right person. You give Affleck to John Woo or the guy who made Gigli, and you get an actor who is just filling space (in his defense, both directors have a lot of past acclaim, but have hit the skids in the last decade or two). But if you watch the performances Affleck has given under the direction of Richard Linklater, Gus Van Sant, Kevin Smith, Terrence Malick, and Affleck himself, you will see a mature and measured actor giving what is needed to every role. Now Affleck being directed by Zack Snyder may be cause for concern, but with Affleck adding to the screenplay it’s possible that Synder’s tendency for style over substance won’t deaden an already strong script.

In the end, I know of few other auteurs (and yes, Ben Affleck is an auteur with a specific voice whether the ragegasm-fueled-Internet-hatedom wants to admit it or not) who would be a palatable successor to Christopher Nolan (who was coming off Following, Memento and Insomnia when given his first “at Bat”, arguably not as respected a series of three films as Ben’s). Affleck has proven to have the maturity and the skill to pull off something amazing. Besides, this Internet rage is all much ado about nothing. We are talking about Ben Affleck portraying Batman in a Superman movie. Get a grip on your rage-boners, Internet. There are more serious things to argue over… like who should be in the Justice League movie.

Make fun of him all you want... he's happier than you.
Make fun of him all you want… he’s happier than you.

F.J. DeSanto is a film producer whose credits include Frank Miller’s ‘The Spirit’ (but I love him for producing the animated ‘Turok: Son of Stone’)! But he’s also a comic book writer! Now he’s on Geekscape talking about his new Archaia comic book ‘Cyborg 009’, based on the classic manga from legendary creator Shotaro Ishinomori! I also talk some Turok (because Turok is awesome) and F.J. helps to explain the new climate of creator ownership in comics, including the BOOM! and Archaia acquisition! PLUS! Ian Kerner calls up to talk about Ben Affleck being cast as Batman in Man of Steel 2!

Briefly: I didn’t expect to be reading this news today.

Warner Bros. has just announced who will play Batman in the currently-untitled Man of Steel sequel… and it’s Ben Affleck.

This, of course, won’t be his first time playing a comic book character, as he starred in 2003’s critical failure DaredevilI’m sure that a worldwide outcry is about to occur, and there will be anti-Affleck petitions by morning… but I’m actually really intrigued. Affleck is an incredible director, and I think that he has some fantastic acting chops. I’m excited to see what he can do! Plus, remember that “A hero can be anyone. Even a man doing something as simple and reassuring as putting a coat around a young boy’s shoulders to let him know that the world hadn’t ended.” Or even Ben Affleck.

The film will begin production in 2014, and will hit theatres on July 17th, 2015. Take a look at the full press release below, and let us know what you think of the news!

BURBANK, CA, August 22, 2013 – Ending weeks of speculation, Ben Affleck has been set to star as Batman, a.k.a. Bruce Wayne. Affleck and filmmaker Zack Snyder will create an entirely new incarnation of the character in Snyder’s as-yet-untitled project—bringing Batman and Superman together for the first time on the big screen and continuing the director’s vision of their universe, which he established in “Man of Steel.” The announcement was made today by Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, and Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

The studio has slated the film to open worldwide on July 17, 2015.

Last month’s surprise announcement of the new movie featuring both Superman and Batman created a wave of excitement and immediately fueled discussion and debate—among fans as well as in the media—about who would put on the cape and cowl of Bruce Wayne’s alter ego.

Snyder successfully re-imagined the origin of Clark Kent/Superman in the worldwide blockbuster “Man of Steel,” which has earned more than $650 million worldwide to date, and climbing. The director will now create an original vision of Batman and his world for the film that brings the two DC Comics icons together.
Affleck will star opposite Henry Cavill, who will reprise the role of Superman/Clark Kent. The film will also reunite “Man of Steel” stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.

In the announcement, Silverman stated, “We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some. His outstanding career is a testament to his talent and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character.”

Snyder also expressed his excitement about the casting of Affleck, noting, “Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”

Kroll added, “We are so thrilled that Ben is continuing Warner Bros.’ remarkable legacy with the character of Batman. He is a tremendously gifted actor who will make this role his own in this already much-anticipated pairing of these two beloved heroes.”

Affleck recently starred in the Academy Award®-winning Best Picture “Argo,” which he also directed and produced, earning acclaim and a BAFTA Award nomination for his performance in the film, as well as a number of directing honors. In 2010, he starred in and directed the hit crime thriller “The Town.” His recent acting work also includes “The Company Men,” “State of Play,” and “Hollywoodland,” for which he received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor. Earlier in his career, Affleck starred in and co-wrote (with Matt Damon) “Good Will Hunting,” for which he won an Oscar® for Best Original Screenplay.

The new Super Hero film is being scripted by David S. Goyer from a story he co-created with Zack Snyder. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan and Wesley Coller serving as executive producers.

Production is expected to begin in 2014.

The film is based on Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster, and Batman characters created by Bob Kane, published by DC Entertainment.

Briefly: Just yesterday, we saw some new Batman: Arkham Origins screenshots that gave us a great look at the game’s Batcave (among other things). Today, Warner Bros. Interactive debuted a new trailer, filled with never-before-seen footage for the anticipated title.

The trailer does a great job of garnering even more excitement for the game, and also reveals one of Black Mask’s assassins, Firefly. Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the game! Batman: Arkham Origins hits PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and Wii U (sans multiplayer) on October 25th!

Briefly: Batman: Arkham Origins is now just a few months away from stores, and Warner Bros. Interactive has just debuted some new screenshots for the title.

The new screens offer what appears to be a pretty neat reveal: Origins will feature the Batcave. Sure, we got a glimpse of it all the way back in Arkham Asylum, but maybe this time we’ll be free to visit?

Take a look at the screenshots below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the game! Batman: Arkham Origins releases on October 25th, 2013!

-The PS3 edition will also include the Knightfall pack as an exclusive piece of content

Sounds pretty cool, but will you be dropping $120 on it?

Briefly: While it’s been rumoured since the game’s announcement, it only just became official: Batman: Arkham Origins will mark the series’ first multiplayer offering.

Created by Brink (uh-oh?) developer Splash Damage, the game’s multiplayer campaign is titled “Silent Predator”, and features some intriging 3 vs. 3 vs. 2 gameplay. Three players act as Joker’s thugs, three as Bane’s, and the other team consists of Batman and Robin (Tim Drake). The Joker and Bane teams will be playing the game as a third-person shooter, while Batman and Robin will be sneaking through the shadows trying to one-up their opponents. It sounds almost like a spiritual successor to Splinter Cell’s fantastic Spies vs. Mercs multiplayer mode.

Take a look at the first trailer for Batman: Arkham Origins multiplayer below, and let us know if you’re excited. The mode will be available on PC, Xbox 360, and PS3… so every platform except for Wii U.

At the San Diego Comic Con last week, I was lucky enough to see the world premiere of the seventeenth DC Universe animated feature, which hits DVD and Blu-ray on July 30th. I’m going to admit right off the bat–I’m going to have a hard time being totally objective in this review of Warner Brother’s and DC Entertainment’s latest animated straight to video film Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, which is based on Geoff Johns’ mini-series event Flashpoint  from just over two years ago. You see, Flashpoint was the event that led to DC’s universe wide relaunch known as “The New 52,”  which, in my opinion, has been frought with more negatives than positives. But even putting that negative bias aside, the truth is that The Flashpoint Paradox is a movie that while exhibiting some entertaining ideas and fun action sequences, tries to bite off more than it can chew and ultimately suffers for it.

The story of The Flashpoint Paradox is relatively straightforward, and much like the comic, centers around the Flash, Barry Allen. This is the first DC animated film to center around the Flash, and although the official title has the words Justice League in it, make no mistake…this is a Flash story through and through. The opening shots of the movie feature Barry Allen as a little kid, and shows us a close relationship with his (single?) mother Nora. One day, she is brutally murdered in a home invasion while Barry is away at school, and this quest to find her killer is what leads Barry to the life of a crime scene forensic scientist. It is during his time as a forensic scientist that Barry has the accident that makes him into the Flash, but we don’t see that presented here. I realize most hard core comic book fans are at least vaguely aware of the Flash’s origin story, but having said that, many casual fans who don’t know it might be sampling this movie, and jumping from the traumatic event of Barry Allen’s childhood to his adult superhero career might be jarring. If you are wondering how Barry Allen becomes the Flash, it isn’t covered in this movie. In fact, almost all of this movie expects you to know the basics of the DC Universe in some form, and that is but the first example of many.

DC-Slider_20130417_flashpointparadox_oec5aldvv5_

So we flash forward (no pun intended) to the Flash fighting his villains, collectively known as the Rogues, and just as he is about to succumb to their evil machinations, Flash calls in his Justice League friends to bail him out. This is where we get our Batman cameo, with classic Batman the Animated Series voice actor Kevin Conroy providing the voice of Bruce Wayne once again. Conroy is the definitive voice of Batman in my opinion, so any chance to hear him as the Dark Knight is a treat, even if it is really brief in this movie. This is maybe my favorite sequence in the whole movie, as the Justice League have to individually disable a bomb planted on each of the rogues by Flash arch nemesis Zoom, the Reverse Flash. Unfortunately, we don’t get a whole lot of insight into what makes the Reverse Flash hate the Flash so much, although he is pretty brilliantly voiced by C. Thomas Howell. If you’re not already a comics fan, you are screwed if you want further insight into just what his deep seeded animosity is based on. Still, this brief scene of the JLA doing their thing and finding unique ways to disable each bomb is maybe my favorite part of the whole movie. Sadly, for me it all kind of goes downhill from here.

Justice_League_The_Flashpoint_Paradox_Of_97377587_thumbnail

After the opening credits, we cut to Barry Allen waking up in his office to a very different world. Barry wakes up to a world where his mother Nora was never murdered and is alive and well, but  in this world, Barry is no longer the Flash and has no super speed. There is a very different (and gun loving) Batman protecting Gotham, Cyborg is America’s #1 hero, and Wonder Woman and Aquaman are at war (or, more truthfully, Themyscira and Atlantis are at war.) A war that has resulted in Aquaman sinking continental Europe, and Wonder Woman and the Amazons taking over England and killing all the men. Superman is nowhere to be found. Barry doesn’t understand or remember how this world came to be, so he seeks out the one person he thinks can help him…Batman. But this Batman isn’t Bruce Wayne, and to say anymore is a fairly massive spoiler, so I’ll stop short of that. But I will say it is one of the cooler reveals of both the movie and the original comic. Barry and Batman try their hardest to restore the alternate timeline back to the normal one, all while an impending World War III is about to happen if Wonder Woman and Aquaman go to war.

Flashpoint Paradox Justice League 02

So all of this sounds cool right? Cool alternate universe story, good animation, all the stuff of fanboy dreams. But something about the whole things bugs me, and I can’t put my finger on it. And it could very well be under the circumstances that I saw it at San Diego Comic Con, to a packed house of enthusiastic fans. While that sounds like the ideal conditions, it left me with a bad taste in my mouth. See, this world exhibited in this movie is extremely violent and dark; Wonder Woman and Aquaman start a war simply because they have an affair that goes sour for example, and Wonder Woman kills Aquaman’s wife Mera by beheading her, and then begins wearing her crown as a trophy. We even have a rather gratuitous shot of Diana holding Mera’s severed head up (this got cheers from the audience for some reason.) Also getting applause was a Batman who killed wantonly, lot of severed limbs and horrible deaths, and even a scene where Wonder Woman kills a little kid. The more over the top the violence, the more they ate it up, and this seems to be the version of these characters we’ll be seeing for years come. It might be the DC Universe that these fans wanted, but it wasn’t the one I wanted. So while technically this is what you’d call an “Elseworlds” story, it sets the stage for a much darker animated DC Universe, and it isn’t one I’m really looking forward to, but it going to be the one we’re stuck with.

There are also tons of cameos from other DC Universe characters, to the point where they are just there as fan service and not much else. Lois Lane (once again voiced by Dana Delany) is a war correspondent and underground freedom fighter on “New Themyscira”, and we get even more cameos from characters like Etrigan the Demon, Deathstroke, (voice acted once again by Teen Titans‘ Ron Perlman) and even Captain Marvel, renamed Captain Thunder. But due to the movie’s eighty minute running time, there just isn’t time to properly develop these characters beyond just as “hey, I know that guy!” and on to the next shot of someone being bloodied up a bit. Some of the subplots should have been cut out entirely to make the movie flow better and seem less like cameo-palooza.

The-Flash

Overall, this movie is a mixed bag. The voice acting is hit and miss; Barry Allen is voiced by Grey’s Anatomy’s Justin Chambers, and I hate to say, his voice acting is rather flat and bland, which doesn’t help when the character who he is portraying has a bit of reputation as being a bit boring and bland as well. Other voice actors fare better, like Kevin McKidd from Rome as Batman II, and veteran actor Cary Elwes as Aquaman. But unlike most DC Animated movies, where the voice acting is often the best thing in it, this time it wasn’t very memorable. The animation style is more anime influenced than any other DC animated movie thus far, and is actually pretty good and a nice change of pace from the usual style these movies go for.  This is the first of the DC Animated films without the influence of Bruce Timm, and you can tell. I miss his guiding hand, and I just can’t help but feel he would have made the production team of producers James Tucker and Alan Burnett and director Jay Oliva try a little bit harder. The final product is perfectly ok, but I kind of expect better from Warner Brothers animation and DC at this point.

To say that the downloadable characters released for Injustice: Gods Among Us were contentious would be an understatement. After a generally well received announcement of Lobo, the releases of Batgirl, Mortal Kombat’s Scorpion and Man of Steel villain Zod divided the community amongst people who felt more Batman and Superman characters was overkill, along with a guest character taking a slot in what many assumed was a DC exclusive fighter. But most of all, some were mad because there were still vital pieces of the DC Universe missing, especially Justice League mainstay Martian Manhunter. At EVO, NetherRealm Studios showed they were listening, answering the fan’s request and adding Manhunter to the Injustice cast along with an extra surprise.

The reveal trailer showed Manhunter going against John Stewart’s Green Lantern, displaying some impressive use of his shape shifting and telepathic abilities. Stewart on the other hand, is a new skin for the Hal Jordan version in the standard game, so while his moves are the same, it sounds like the developers were able to secure the Justice League Unlimited voice actor from the animated series for both. It would have been nice to see some new constructs, but then again, I’m happy that Stewart is in at all. Completing the Justice League animated cast on top of a brand new character is better than expected.

Injustice Zatanna

Will Zatanna make the DLC cut?

But the good news doesn’t stop there. Ed Boon recently tweeted that MM and Stewart won’t be the final additions, stating that the next one is a, “BIG fan favorite request!” What this means is anyone’s guess, but the character request polls were led by Zatanna and Red Hood. Considering the backlash towards more Batman characters, I’m guessing Zatanna is getting in. While I personally would be happy with Hood, (or Black Canary and Huntress for that matter,) Zatanna would be a great addition to a roster with a lack of magic users save for Raven.

The moral of the story? Don’t buy season passes!

Martian Manhunter and John Stewart will be available on July 30th for $4.99. Whether or not a second season pass for the new wave of fighters, who the next character will be, and how many characters will be added from here is unknown, but details will be posted as they become available.

That didn’t last long.

Damian Wayne suffered a pretty horrific death in Batman Inc. #8 back in February, but that doesn’t mean that we won’t be seeing him around.

A new Damnian Wayne centric miniseries titled Damnian: Son of Batman is set to launch this October. The four issue series is written and illustrated by Andy Kubert, and heads into a future where Damian survives and eventually takes on the role of Batman.

Whether Damian permanently returns following the series is still unknown, but of course it wouldn’t be the first time that a character came back from the dead.

In speaking to the New York Post, Kubert States “I had a big affinity for Damian when I drew Batman issue #666 (in 2007). I really liked that Batman and always wanted to revisit him. Damian is a bit different than the ‘Bruce Wayne’ Batman. Grant Morrison tweaked his character in a way that made it very endearing for me to draw. And to write. Basically, what I’m doing is exploring the path that Damian has taken to become Batman. I think readers will see him in a different light than before.”

The first issue of Damian: Son of Batman  will release on October 30th. Take a look at some key art for the series below, and let us know if you’ll be adding it to your pull list!

Bah. This game can’t release soon enough.

Warner Bros. Interactive has debuted the first TV spot for the upcoming Batman: Arkham Origins. The preview is short, sweet, and to the point, featuring an extremely quick duel between Batman and Deathstroke.

Of course, the purpose of the spot is to advertise the fact that you can play as Deathstroke if you preorder the title. Sounds like a pretty good incentive, huh?

Watch the first spot below, and let us know what you think! Batman: Arkham Origins hits stores on October 25th!

The ‘Man of Steel’ has flown into theaters and geeks are as divided about it as two halves of an exploding Krypton! What was there to love? What was there to hate? How did it compare to the comics or earlier depictions of Superman? There is a ton to talk about! Luckily, our resident comics expert, Ian Kerner, is here to help us navigate all of the issues? Does ‘Man of Steel’ do a good job of setting up the future of the DC cinematic universe? If you listen to one assessment of ‘Man of Steel’, this one should be it! PLUS: We say a sad goodbye to James Gandolfini, beloved among TV and film geeks everywhere.

E3 attendees (those lucky jerks) will have the chance to play Batman: Arkham Origins on the show floor tomorrow, but for everyone else, Warner Bros. Interactive has revealed a new gameplay trailer for the title.

The preview features a ton of awesome in-game footage, and should quell most worries that gamers had about the title. Arkham Origins looks awesome, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

Following the full trailer from just a few days ago, Warner Bros. Interactive has released a new teaser image for the upcoming Batman: Arkham Origins. The image reveals nothing new about the game, but does spotlight the legions of villains you’re set to face in the game.

Are you looking forward to Arkham Origins, or are you on the fence since it isn’t being developed by Rocksteady? Take a look at the image below, and let us know what you think!

Yesterday, the full Batman: Arkham Origins trailer hit the web, showing Batman and Deathstroke duke it out like only they could. Batman is great and all, but wouldn’t it be awesome to have t a master assassin like Deathstroke at our fingertips? Well, if you pre-order the game from Amazon, you can.

Whether or not this DLC will be offered from other retailers is yet to be seen, but if  it’s anything like the content from previous Batman games, it’s sure to be available to everyone eventually. And will Deathstroke have his own mini campaign like Catwoman and Joker did? Or will he go the Robin and Nightwing route and only work for challenge maps? Those details haven’t been ironed out yet, but if kicking ass with Deathstroke isn’t enough of an incentive, (and if it isn’t, what’s wrong with you?) then the $10 credit should sweeten the deal.

Let us know below who else should make an appearance in the newest adventure of the Dark Knight! Batman: Arkham Origins hits on October 25th.

Remember that terrible rumour from April stating that series regular Kevin Conroy wouldn’t be returning to voice Batman in Batman: Arkham Origins, and that Warner Bros. Interactive was instead looking for younger talent for this Arkham prequel?

Well… it wasn’t true.

During this weekend’s Dallas Comic Con, Conroy confirmed his involvement in the new title, and the fact that he’s been working on it for more than nine months. Conroy certainly sounds excited for the project, as outlined in the conference video below (the Arkham Origins talk opens the Q&A, though the whole presentation is worth the watch)!

We know that a lot of you were extremely disappointed when the rumour began to make its rounds. Are you feeling better about the game now that you know of Conroy’s involvement?

Batman: Arkham Origins releases on October 25th!

Update: Things are getting a little confusing here. Despite Conroy confirming his involvement in the game, Warner Bros. Interactive today announced that Roger Craig Smith (Ezio in Assassin’s Creed, Chris Redfield in Resident Evil) will portray Batman in Arkham Origins. It was also revealed that Troy Baker (Booker DeWitt in the amazing Bioshock Infinite) will voice the Joker.

Now, what does this mean? Could Batman: Arkham Origins have us jumping through time and playing as both an older and younger Batman? Could Conroy be playing a different character entirely? Maybe Conroy was confused, and actually talking about Rocksteady’s upcoming, unannounced title?

Let us know what you think of the new casting, and watch a new trailer for the game below!

Still only logs from the rumormill, Christopher Nolan was supposedly recently approached by Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G .Wilson to direct the next film.

Skyfall director Sam Mendes recently turned down the job of directing the next film in the Bond series, and it has left the leaders of James Bond Films scrambling for the next director. This is all still speculation as Nolan has a lot on his plate with the pre-production of his next film Interstellar. Sam Mendes has said that 12 -18 months of pre production would be needed for Bond 24.

I personally think this would be a great choice. I still firmly believe that James Bond is the GREATEST superhero of all time, think I’m wrong? He is literally Batman without the leather fetish. Both are masters of martial arts, smart as a whip, great with the ladies and has a shit ton of gadgets at his fingertips. They are also both orphans and have both been raised by geriatric mentors. So getting the best Batman director to direct the next Bond film makes perfect sense.

More info as it comes out.

A few months ago, Warner Brothers Interactive announced “Batman: Arkham Origins,” a prequel to the wildly popular “Arkham” games that achieved a task that many thought was impossible; making a great Batman game. While new developer Warner Bros. Games Montreal has some huge boots to fill with the legacy left behind by Rocksteady Games, their first official teaser hopes to put these concerns to rest.

Check out Batman going toe to toe with master assassin Deathstroke and tell us what you think! Be sure to check back on May 20th when the full trailer is released! Same bat site, same bat web page!

Batman: Arkham Origins will release for every major platform on October 25th.

Warner Bros. Interactive has announced Scribblenauts: Unmasked, combining 5th Cell’s popular puzzle franchise with the popular heroes and villains of the DC Comics catalogue. Featuring a wealth of familiar faces and locations such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Gotham City and Metropolis, gamers will finally have control of this world at their fingertips.

Scribblenauts is known for the insane amount of objects that players can generate. If you type out something, chances are it will show up, with your imagination being its only limit. Having that type of control over the DC Universe is sure to make comics fans rejoice, and who knows? Maybe we’ll finally be able to create some resemblance of the fanfics floating in our heads.

What will you make? An evil Batman? A tiny, top hat wearing Grodd? A dancing Oracle? We’ll get our chance when Scribblenauts: Unmasked is released for the Wii U, 3DS and PC this fall.

Warner Bros. Interactive today released a nice new batch of screenshots for their upcoming, highly anticipated prequel, Batman: Arkham Origins. The shots look fantastic, but fail to really reveal anything that we didn’t already know about the game. In any case, it looks like the title is coming together quite nicely, and it better be, as October is just six months away.

In other news, it looks like Batman may be getting a new set of pipes. Kotaku has learned (via South Africa’s NAG Magazine) that Warner Bros. Montreal has decided to look for younger talent to voice the Dark Knight, as “the game features Batman in his early years.” It makes sense, but it’s still sad news for us fans. The news hasn’t been confirmed by either Conroy or Warner Bros. however, so there’s always the chance that it’s not true (fingers crossed).

Check out more screenshots from Batman: Arkham Origins here.

Following yesterday’s awesome (yet basically footageless) announcement trailer, the first screenshots from Batman: Arkham Origins are now available for your viewing pleasure. The screenshots feature plenty of the baddies we’ll be dealing with in this Arkham prequel, including Deathstroke, Black Mask, and the Penguin.

Now, if you didn’t catch it in the news yesterday, Arkham Origins is not being crafted by Rocksteady. This time around, Warner Bros. Games Montreal is taking care of the game’s development, while Rocksteady works on a secret, not yet announced project. My biggest concern is that this different team won’t be able to match the sheer quality of the first two titles, but as Rocksteady has given the Montreal team its blessing, Origins should turn out pretty fantastic.

Check out the screenshots below (click for larger versions), and let us know what you think! Batman: Arkham Origins (and its portable spinoffBlackgate) hit shelves on October 25th.

Along with today’s announcement of Batman: Arkham Origins, Warner Bros. Interactive announced a very exciting portable spinoff.

Very little information was announced about this side project, but we do know that it’s being developed by Armature Studios, a relatively new developer… made up largely of ex Retro Studios employees (creators of the Metroid Prime trilogy). Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate will release for 3DS and Vita on the same day as its console sibling (October 25th). It’s said to be a 2.5D Super Metroid / Castlevania style action game. That sounds absolutely amazing.

Look for more news from both games in the coming weeks. We couldn’t be more excited!
