It appears after the cliffhanger ending of this weeks episode of Arrow, we will see Diggle begin to help train Oliver in his quest to save Starling City. These new promotional photos from the sixth episode of Arrow were just released and feature Oliver Queen training with bodyguard John Diggle. We also get a peak at the Royal Flush Gang’s bank heist in the episode. In the series we will see the gang given a more realistic approach versus their cyborg versions in the comics.

THE ROYAL FLUSH GANG INVADES STARLING CITY — A gang of bank robbers, dubbed The Royal Flush Gang, hits a local bank and seriously wounds an off-duty police officer during a heist. Diggle (David Ramsey) tells Oliver (Stephen Amell) he needs to deviate from his father’s list and start helping the citizens of Starling City. Meanwhile, Tommy (Colin Donnell) asks Thea (Willa Holland) for relationship advice, but things get awkward when she realizes he was asking about Laurel (Katie Cassidy). Moira (Susanna Thompson) confronts Oliver about all of his recent disappearances in the middle of family functions. John Behring directed the episode written by Moira Kirland & Marc Guggenheim (#106).

Kieron Gillen has earned himself a  pretty famous fan. In the letters page of this week’s Journey Into Mystery #645, Gillen received a very special letter from this fan.

Tom Hiddleston, who has brought the god of mischief to life on the big screen and gone on to amass a very large fan base, decided to share his thoughts on the writer’s take on Loki during his run.

Now that right there is awesome.

Christopher Nolan has said before that he was interested in directing a James Bond film during some point in his career. Well, not it turns out the people behind Bond are interested in Nolan as well. Skyfall director Sam Mendes has gone to stated that he was influenced by Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight when making the recent film. So, if they are pleased with the film…why not go after the influence? The producers of the Bond films stated:

“We would of course be interested to have a discussion with him. We would like to do the same type of movie. It would be a dream to be with Nolan. But we always have an open mind when it comes to directors.”

Just this past summer Nolan stated that he’s very serious about the prospect of directing a Bond film, however the timing behind it would have to be right. Would you guys be interested in seeing a Nolan helmed Bond flick? I don’t even know why I asked that because of course you guys would.

By Crom! Arnold Schwarzenegger will once again tell us what is best in life as he returns to the role that made him a star as Conan The Barbarian, in Universal Pictures The Legend Of Conan. Schwarzenegger will reprise his role as the Cimmerian warrior in a film to be produced by Fredrik Malmberg and Chris Morgan. Chris Morgan (47 RoninWanted) is expected to write the script for the film.

The only film that The Legend Of Conan will adhere to will be 1982’s Conan The Barbarian. The film will pretty much just ignore Conan The Destroyer and the reboot that starred Jason Momoa altogether.

“The original ended with Arnold on the throne as a seasoned warrior, and this is the take of the film we will make. It’s that Nordic Viking mythic guy who has played the role of king, warrior, soldier and mercenary, and who has bedded more women than anyone, nearing the last cycle of his life. He knows he’ll be going to Valhalla, and wants to go out with a good battle.”

Schwarzenegger added:

“I always loved the Conan character and I’m honored to be asked to step into the role once again. I can’t wait to work with Universal and the great team of Fredrik Malmberg and Chris Morgan to develop the next step of this truly epic story.”

There’s no word yet if the film will be R-rated like that original film, but one can only hope.

Probably some of the most unexpected news of the day. Matthew Vaughn, who directed X-Men: First Class, has decided not to direct the sequel X-Men: Days Of Future Past for 20th Century Fox. Instead, Vaughn’s next project will be the big screen adaptation of The Secret Service, a comic book series which he co-plotted with writer Mark Millar and artist Dave Gibbons.

With the film having a release date set for July 18th, 2014 and filming set to begin in January, the studio is now looking for a replacement for the director. They may already have a director on the top of their list though, none other than the director behind the first two X-Men films, Bryan Singer. Matthew Vaughn will still produce the film but won’t be sitting in the directors chair. If anyone is to direct this film, Bryan Singer would probably be the smartest choice for Fox.

Check out a brand new teaser trailer for A Good Day To Die Hard. The trailer introduces us to John McLane’s son, Jack. Details regarding the plot are still a bit scarce but the trailer does confirm that John will be heading to Moscow to help his son out of a bit of a spot. And of course that includes a lot of people getting killed and plenty of property damage. Like father…like son?

A Good Day To Die Hard hits theaters February 14, 2013.

While the film was originally believed to be a prequel, director James Mangold has confirmed that his upcoming film The Wolverine will take place after all of the previous X-Men films. Yes, that even includes The Last Stand sadly. In The Last Stand we saw Logan forced to kill Jean Grey. Professor Xavier and Scott Summers (Please Fox…fix this one!) are believed to be deceased, and the team has parted ways. Could the recent rumor of Jean Grey appearing in the film turn out to be true? Could they be fixing the things about The Last Stand that pissed everyone off so much? Mangold stated:

“Where this film sits in the universe of the films is after them all. Jean Grey is gone, most of the X-Men are disbanded or gone, so there’s a tremendous sense of isolation for him.”

“That’s something that for me was very important, that I land in a very specific place in his timeline. I wanted to be able to tell the story without the burden of handing it off to a film that already exists and having to conform to it. The ideas of immortality reign very heavily in this story and the burden of immortality weighs heavily on Logan. For me that’s such an interesting part of Logan’s character that is nearly impossible to explore if you have a kind of league or team movie.”

We will have to wait and see what they’re up to. For now though, check out the newest still from the recent issue of Empire Magazine!

The Wolverine slices into theaters July 26th, 2013.

The third episode of Arrow lets off another shot and it continues down the path that this show has been on. The show has been getting progressively better with each episode with the action seeming to get stepped up a notch and the character development becoming more interesting.  In “Lone Gunmen”,  we see Oliver Queen finding himself tasked with taking down a deadly assassin known as Deadshot (played excellently by Michael Rowe), while dealing with personal crises unresolved from his time on the island.

This week’s episode brings in yet another popular DC character very smoothly and in a fashion that is acceptable to both fans as well as the general audience. I’m not quite sure if it’s the stars or the tone of the drama with this series, but with only three episodes down that are full of rich plot developments as well as perfect amounts of action, this show is becoming one of our favorites (well, some of us) of the new season.

The performances in this episode were the strongest of the three, especially for star Stephen Arnell. And while he only had a few lines (keep in mind that Deadshot doesn’t really say much in the comics) I think Michael Rowe’s performance as Floyd Lawton, aka Deadshot, was fantastic and I would hope for more of it. Well, that is if he survived that final showdown… We’re hoping he did and comes back with a vengeance. Or is that too comic cliché? Overall, the action and the performances in this episode were the best of the three so far.

One thing I feel I have to comment on, while I loved Nolan’s Bat-films, is that Arrow is doing a much better job of the detective angle. I’m really impressed by how much detail they are paying to this and I did feel it was one thing that the Bat-films lacked.

The episode ended with plenty of cliffhangers and questions that left you wanting more, including a pretty big revelation for one of the main characters.

And of course, there are the comic book references &  easter eggs that you may have missed:

The “New 52” reference: Floyd Lawton aka Deadshot is staying in room 52 at the hotel.

Black Canary foreshadowing: In the club scene we are introduced to Dinah Lance being proficient in hand to hand combat which could foreshadow the chance of seeing her become her DC Comics alter-ego, Black Canary.

Felicity Smoak: This character isn’t actually a Green Arrow character. Felicity Smoak is a character who was introduced in Firestorm during the 80’s. The character was the manager of a computer software firm in New York City.

Did we miss anything this week? Let us know! And check back next week when we take a look at the next episode: “An Innocent Man”.

Actress Heather Langenkamp, who you may know best as Nancy in the original Nightmare On Elm Street, has revealed that she will be appearing in J.J. Abrams highly anticipated sequel Star Trek: Into Darkness. The actress reveals that her part is small, but she worked on the film’s make-up effects with her husband.

“I had the opportunity to play a small part in Star Trek, so I’m looking forward to that. I can’t tell you anything about that, but that was a thrill for me. My husband and I worked on the makeup effects for Star Trek. He designed some of them, so that’s the thing we’re looking forward to most. Hopefully we’ll be working on something else in January. We don’t know what that will be yet, but hopefully it’ll be a really fun job.”

Star Trek: Into Darkness hits theaters May 17th, 2013.

A few months back Mark Millar, the man behind Supercrooks, revealed that Ryan Reynolds or Bradley Cooper would be his ideal choice for the role of Johnny Bolt in Nacho Vigalondo’s upcoming big screen adaptation. Earlier this evening on the Millarworld Forums Mark Millar confirmed that production on the film is moving ahead as well as that Millar would be contacting Cooper’s people tomorrow in order to begin talks. Even though this doesn’t mean that the actor will accept this does mean that this project IS indeed moving forward. Can we just go ahead and say “Hell yeah!” right now?

“We’ve got a great director, a great screenplay and as of Christmas we’ll have time to start prepping this sucker. Who we gonna call? Bradley Cooper. I am literally calling up his guys tomorrow and want to secure him as Johnny Bolt. It’s about TIME he did a super-movie and having him as a likeable super-villain in a super-heist flick sounds about perfect. He’s our ideal choice and we’re going to pursue this tomorrow.”

Millar also confirmed that there is another Millarworld film that will be going into production in the spring and we should expect an announcement in the next few weeks.

Did you pick up this week’s issue of The Avengers? Well, you may want to run back out to your shop and pick this one up. During Brian Michael Bendis run the writer has killed a number of characters, and pissed off some people with who he killed, but this week we saw Bendis bring back a very iconic character. Spoilers lie ahead! You’ve been warned.

That’s right, ladies and gentlemen. The Wasp is back! Is it coincidence they brought her back just in time for Marvel Studios Ant-Man? Probably not.

So, how is she alive? Well, you’re going to have to hit your local comic shop and find out.

Actress Ming-Na Wen (ER) has been cast in ABC and Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot. She will join the cast as Agent Melinda May. The agent is being described as “Soulful and slightly damaged by her combat experiences, Melinda is an ace pilot, a weapons expert and a soldier who can, and has, gone beyond the call of duty.” This would be the same character that we saw in the original casting breakdown for the series as Agent Althea Rice, aka ‘The Cavalry’.

We know Coulson will return to the show as well, which means that there are still four more roles to fill, if the previously released descriptions still hold true.  Whedon is co-writing the pilot script with his brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, who will all executive produce along with Jeffrey Bell and Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb.

The gruesome and bloody first red band trailer for Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead remake has arrived! The film, produced by Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell, looks like it’s going to be full of enough bloody goodness to please both fans of the original series as well as new fans.

In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up long-dormant demons that possess each of those friends in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

Ryan Meinerding, a concept artist for Marvel Studios, had created an awesome variant for  Rick Remender and John Romita Jr.’s Captain America #1! Better set some money to the side because this is one of the best variants that I have seen in awhile and sure to sell out quickly. The future of Marvel is now!

Thrust into a bizarre, inhospitable world far from home, the all-new, high-adventure, mind-melting, tough-as-nails, sci-fi, pulp-fantasy era of Captain America is NOW! With no country and no allies, what’s left for the Sentinel of Liberty to protect? The Saga of Dimension Z begins here!

Speaking with Hollywood.com, Wanted co-writer Derek Haas offered a small update on the upcoming sequel to big screen adaptation of Mark Millar’s Wanted. Haas and Michael Brandt are currently getting ready to send out a second draft of the script to Universal.

The team had actually left the sequel after creative differences between them and Universal. Universal then hired multiple writers to tackle the Wanted 2 script after Haas and Brandt departed but in 2011, the studio reapproached them for the job.

While he didn’t give much away about the sequel a small bit of what to expect in the film was revealed. According to Haas, the film will see an introduction to the new female character that will be teaming up with Wesley.

“The only thing I can tell you is that Wesley [James McAvoy] is now, four years later, recruiting a young woman who is in his situation in the first movie. She’s got a sh**ty life. He’s sort of in the Fox role. This new girl is brought into the world.”

I’m actually glad that they won’t be bringing back Angelina Jolie, who was rumored to be returning for awhile, in the sequel. While the film strayed away from the comic it was based on it was definitely fun and I hope that the sequel is just as fun and action-packed.

Twenty years ago, director Quentin Tarantino burst onto the scene with release of the classic Reservoir Dogs. Reservoir Dogs will be back on the big screen screen in select theaters on Tuesday, December 4th and Pulp Fiction will hit the big big screen on Thursday, December 6th.

The official press release:

“There is no doubt that Quentin Tarantino’s writing and directorial style has reinvented filmmaking as we know it,” said Shelly Maxwell, executive vice president of NCM Fathom Events. “Join Vincent, Jules, Marsellus Wallace, Mr. Orange, Mr. Pink, Mr. Blonde and the rest of his infamous characters as they return to the big screen in this special two-night Fathom event.”

“Reservoir Dogs”
Released on Oct. 23, 1992, and named the “Greatest Independent Film Ever Made” by “Empire Magazine,” Tarantino’s directorial debut assembles four perfect strangers to pull off the perfect crime. But when their botched robbery reveals a police informant among them, their simple robbery explodes into a bloody ambush. Nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival (1992) and awarded the International Critics Award at the Toronto International Film Festival (1992), “Reservoir Dogs” is raw, violent and unforgettable.

“Pulp Fiction”
Two years after his groundbreaking debut, Tarantino released “Pulp Fiction” – hailed by critics and audiences worldwide as a film that redefined cinema. Recognized as one of AFI’s “Top 100 Films of the Last 100 Years,” “Pulp Fiction,” set in the basking sun of L.A., follows a burger-loving hit man (John Travolta), his philosophical partner (Samuel L. Jackson), a drug-addled gangster’s moll (Uma Thurman) and a washed-up boxer (Bruce Willis), as their four tales converge in a story of violence and redemption. Honored with an Academy Award® for Best Original Screenplay (1994) and earning seven total nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director, “Pulp Fiction” has been listed as one of the best films of all-time by Time and Entertainment Weekly.

Miramax and Lionsgate Home Entertainment will release the “Tarantino XX: 8-Film Collection,” on Blu-ray™ Nov. 20. The set contains eight films personally selected by Tarantino to illustrate the first 20 years of his career, plus two extra discs packed with over seven hours of exclusive, never-before-seen interviews and special features. The set also features striking, original artwork designed and illustrated by MONDO (www.mondotees.com). Tarantino’s newest film, “Django Unchained,” will be released in theaters on Dec. 25.

Word is that Mark Wahlberg (Ted) may be “having early conversations” with Michael Bay that would set the actor to star in the next installment in the Transformers movie series. But besides that they don’t have too many details regarding the role minus that the story would “revolve around an adult star (the part being discussed with Wahlberg) and his teenage child.”

The idea would be that the child would then grow to be the focus of further entries in the series. Earlier this week there were two roles revealed for the film, one being a female high school student and the second being her race car driving boyfriend. Could this be the role that was mention? Guess we’ll find out soon with production set to begin on the film pretty soon. I actually don’t mind having an actor like Wahlberg on board with this film at all. He’s a fantastic actor and could really bring something fresh to the franchise. What may also help seal the deal is the fact that Wahlberg and Bay just finished working together on the body bulding flick Pain And Gain, but of course only time will tell as far as this one goes.

According the movie’s official Facebook page the Red Band trailer for the film will debut tomorrow. Are you excited? I know we are.

Evil Dead hits theaters April 12, 2013.

Director Jeff Wadlow has been teasing fans by tweeting images from the set from the upcoming sequel to KICK-ASS. The most recent tweeted image is the following logo, which we’re pretty sure is the symbol of The Motherf*cker’s supervillain group, known as the Toxic Mega C*nts in the comic series.

KICK-ASS 2 hits theaters June 28, 2013.

Quentin Tarantino’s latest flick keeps looking better and better as we get closer to the release date. This actually could be the best trailer that they’ve released yet. It’s filled with plenty of new footage, plot details, and character motivations. Check out a new international trailer for the film!

With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. Iron Man 3 suits up and hits theaters May 3, 2013!

A new red-band trailer has been released for writer/director John Hyams’ Universal Soldier: Day Of Reckoning. So, I’m not just saying this because I am a huge fan of Scott Adkins and Jean-Claude Van Damme…but this movie looks brutally insane and some of us here at Geekscape definitely can’t wait to see it. The last Universal Soldier was tons of action-packed fun and I have high hopes for this one as well.

Jean-Claude Van Damme, Scott Adkins, Andrei “The Pit Bull” Arlovski and Dolph Lundgren star in UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: DAY OF RECKONING, which ups the ante in the UNIVERSAL SOLDIER series, giving you more hard-hitting, bloody, no-holds-barred fighting action. John (Adkins, The Expendables 2) wakes up from a coma after his wife and daughter were slaughtered in a brutal home invasion. Haunted by images of the attack, he vows to kill the man responsible, Luc Deveraux (Van Damme). While John tries to piece his reality back together, things get more complicated when he is pursued by a relentless UniSol (Arlovski). As John gets closer to Deveraux and the rouge army of genetically enhanced warriors led by back-from-the-dead leader Andrew Scott (Lundgren), John discovers more about himself and begins to call into question everything he believed to be true.

Universal Soldier: Day Of Reckoning is available On Demand starting October 25th with a theatrical release on November 30th!

Frank Grillo (Warrior, End Of Watch) may just be the next addition to what’s shaping up to be a great cast for Marvel Studios Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The actor tweeted earlier that he just recently met with the studio for what sounds like a fairly important role in the highly anticipated sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger.

So, just what role is Grillo up for? Well, according to radio host and comedian Matthew Aaron, Grillo revealed that he’d met with Marvel Studios and the actor is set to play Crossbones in the sequel. So, is the actor really up for the role? Well, I’m pretty sure Grillo’s response says it all.

Well, this is definitely a busy and exciting news day for Marvel Studios. Grillo is an awesome actor and I can’t wait to see if they pick him for the role. And based on the response on Twitter…it’s not just me. We’ll be sure to keep you guys updated as soon as anything official is announced.

With ratings that hit the mark for the network, it looks like The CW’s Arrow will be sticking around for awhile. After just two episodes the CW has made the decision to pick up the series for a full 22-episode run.

Being that the series premiere became the network’s most watched episode of a TV show in over three years, this isn’t really all that surprising at all. Honestly, I don’t think anyone would be surprised if we get a second season as well. Are you guys ready for more Arrow?

Well, it looks like we may be finding out who will be under the helmet sooner than expected. A casting call reports tht Avi Arad’s Arad Productions along with Edgar Wright’s Big Talk Productions are currently in the pre-production stages of the quite highly anticipated “action adventure sci-fi thriller”, Ant-Man. Doesn’t that description of the film just get you excited?

Filming is reportedly scheduled to start January 2013 for a November 6, 2015 release date. One can only assume that they will begin filming this early due to the amount of VFX that will be required for this film.

The project will shoot at Pinewood Studios in England, and other locations around London and the United Kingdom. So, with production set to begin in a few months…we should definitely be on the lookout for casting announcements soon. There is word currently that Nathan Fillion may be in the running for the lead. Someone get a towel because some nerdgasms are about to occur.
