Briefly: All the way back in January, X-Men: Days of Future Past director Brian Singer revealed that Ellen Page, Anna Paquin, and Shawn Ashmore would reprise their roles in the upcoming sequel.

Sadly, one of those characters has been cut from the film.

Singer today revealed that a rescue scene shot early in production (during Paquin’s only week on the project, and her only scene in the film) has been left on the cutting-room floor. Singer states:

“Through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous. It’s a really good sequence and it will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it. But like many things in the editing process, it was an embarrassment of riches and it was just one of the things that had to go. Unfortunately, it was the one and only sequence Anna Paquin was in, the Rogue character was in. Even though she’s in the materials and part of the process of making the film, she won’t appear in it.”

Of course, it had nothing to do with Paquin herself, and Singer would love to work with the actress again:

“She did a fantastic job. She was awesome in the sequence. She’s a brilliant actress. I would work with her in a heartbeat. She completely understood. It’s very disappointing, but she’s very professional and she knows that stuff happens, particularly with material you shoot early on in production. Films evolve.”

What do you think of the cut? Were you looking forward to seeing Paquin reprise her role? Sound out below!

Briefly: We learned only yesterday that Paul Rudd had entered negotiations with Marvel to play Ant-Man in the upcoming Edgar Wright film.

Now, Marvel has officially announced that Rudd has signed on for the film.

In a post of Marvel.com, producer Kevin Feige stated that “When Edgar Wright came to us with the idea of Paul Rudd, we felt a huge sense of relief because the first step in creating any Marvel Studios film is finding the right star. We knew early on that we had found the right person in Paul. When he not only agreed to do it but became as enthusiastic as any actor we’d ever met with about doing the work, we knew we’d found the right guy. We couldn’t be more excited for our audiences to see what he’s going to do to bring Ant-Man to life.”

Ant-Man hits theatres on July 31st, 2015. Do you think that Rudd is the right choice for the part? Or would you rather have seen another actor in the role? Sound out below!

Briefly: Edgar Wright may have found his Hank Pym.

Back in October it was rumoured that both Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd were on the short list to play the character in Wright’s next film, Ant-Man.

Now that JGL has moved on to Sandman, it seems as though Marvel has shifted its focus towards Rudd, who The Wrap today confirmed has landed the role and is now in early negotiations with the studio.

We’ll be sure to keep you up-to-date on the situation, as well as let you know when the official announcement is made. Are you looking forward to the film? Are you happy with the casting? Sound out below!

The new Marvel CG Animation film Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United had its ups and downs, sometimes literally. The film, while interesting, had a bit of a dull plot, but it’s still worth watching for fans of the characters.

The story is simple: Hulk is kidnapped by Hydra with the help of Abomination and has his power stolen to fuel a new weapon. When the weapon fails it creates a being of pure energy, Zzzax, who then begins to steal power from the earth. Iron Man tries to stop it using his technology, and Hulk tries with brute force, but soon the pair realize the only way to defeat the new villain is to team up.

hulk-iron-man-320x205

One of my problems with the film was Hulk’s sudden ability to form fully functioning sentences. While fighting Abomination, the two have full-on intelligent conversations. Then, as he fights and later teams up with Iron Man, it’s tough to get used to his language and sentence structure. Overall, he sounds much more intelligent than the Hulk most are used to.

The plot itself was slow-moving at times. Zzzax is a boring villain as far as bad guys go. He basically is just an energy ball at first who is trying to steal all energy he can find. Eventually, he takes over a few of Stark’s suits, creating havoc, but later begins to mold himself into a human-like body. He’s a bit boring, mostly just using electric currents to attack both heroes when he wasn’t in a suit.

What I liked was the pure fun of it. Sure, Hulk is suddenly smart, and Iron Man isn’t as clever as he usually is (he leans on Jarvis a bit more than usual). The humor and one-liners kept the slow plot going a bit, especially Hulk’s random attacks on Iron Man. Also enjoyable was seeing the suit Iron Man eventually fits Hulk with.

Overall, the film was 2/5 stars. If you’re a fan of the animated films, definitely check it out, otherwise you’re probably safe to skip this one.

Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United is available now on Amazon.

Briefly: Following the triptych poster released earlier today, Sony has debuted five new images from The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

The stills don’t reveal much from the film, but we do get to see Spidey in action (and dodging electricity), as well as another look at Jamie Fox as Electro.

Take a look at the images below, and let us know what you think! The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theatres on May 2nd, and look for the first trailer this Thursday!

And here’s a new synopsis for the film:

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

Briefly: Remember that low-res spy shot of the new The Amazing Spider-Man 2 poster that we showed you last week? Preceding the debut of the film’s first trailer this Thursday, that poster has been officially released.

It (of course) shows off Electro, but also totally features a HUGE, mechanized looking Rhino, and a Martin Short in The Santa Clause 3-esque Green Goblin.

Take a look at the full image below (click for larger), and be sure to let us know what you think! Look for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer this Thursday!

In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

Briefly: An eagle-eyed theatregoer snapped a photo of the first official poster for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 after a showing of Disney’s Frozen tonight.

The image looks to feature our first official look at Paul Giamatti’s Rhino, as well as the Green Goblin (wasn’t he supposed to be a surprise villain). The photo is pretty low quality, but we’ll be sure to share a higher-res version as soon as it’s available.

Take a look at the image below, and let us know what you think! The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theatres on May 2nd, 2014!

Briefly: There may be three The Amazing Spider-Man films currently in the works, but that’s not all that Sony has planned for the franchise.

During a presentation to investors earlier this week, Sony Pictures Entertainment Co-Chairman Amy Pascal stated that “We are going to access Marvel’s full world of Spider-Man characters, so be on the lookout for new heroes and villains.”

Deadline reports that Sony Pictures Entertainment chief Michael Lynton later added “We do very much have the ambition about creating a bigger universe around Spider-Man. There are a number of scripts in the works.”

The Spider-Man franchise is obviously a hugely popular one (so far grossing over 3-billion dollars worldwide), but did anyone else already feel as though Sony was getting a little sequel happy when they announced three new films at once? Now there are spinoffs in the works too? Does this mean we’ll be seeing a franchise-related film every six-months sometime in the next few years?

If all the films were high enough quality, then I’d be all for it. The Amazing Spider-Man was definitely a disappointment however, so I’m not really sure how to feel about this development.

Are you looking forward to more films in the franchise? What heroes or villains would you like to see receive spinoffs? Sound out below!

The best promises are the ones you can’t keep.

Briefly: Sony has revealed a trio of new stills from next year’s anticipated The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

None of the new images reveal much of the feature, but we do get another look at Jamie Fox as Electro, Peter and Gwen staring longingly at each other, and… Spider-Man playing a fireman.

I hate it.

Sure, it could work in a comic book as a quick little gag or a panel to lighten up a serious situation, but it just looks silly here. Maybe the image is out of context and everything is much better than it looks here… but I’m not holding my breath.

Take a look at the new images below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the film! The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theatres on May 2nd, 2014. The first trailer will release next month with The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

And you thought the Thor movie would be the biggest comic book news this week.

This morning, Disney and Netflix announced a huge partnership, bringing four original shows exclusively to the platform. Expect to see Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and Daredevil in 2015 as Marvel looks to expand on its stranglehold on entertainment, (and our collective lives in the process.

Iron Fist Luke CageWill we see Luke Cage and Iron Fist team up on our televisions?

Check out the press release below:

Led by a series focused on “Daredevil,” followed by “Jessica Jones,” “Iron Fist” and “Luke Cage,” the epic will unfold over multiple years of original programming, taking Netflix members deep into the gritty world of heroes and villains of Hell’s Kitchen, New York. Netflix has committed to a minimum of four, thirteen episodes series and a culminating Marvel’s “The Defenders” mini-series event that reimagines a dream team of self-sacrificing, heroic characters.

Produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Television Studios, this groundbreaking deal is Marvel’s most ambitious foray yet into live-action TV storytelling. All four series are set for 2015.

“This deal is unparalleled in its scope and size, and reinforces our commitment to deliver Marvel’s brand, content and characters across all platforms of storytelling. Netflix offers an incredible platform for the kind of rich storytelling that is Marvel’s specialty,” said Alan Fine, President of Marvel Entertainment. “This serialized epic expands the narrative possibilities of on-demand television and gives fans the flexibility to immerse themselves how and when they want in what’s sure to be a thrilling and engaging adventure.”

“Marvel’s movies, such as Iron Man and Marvel’s The Avengers, are huge favorites on our service around the world. Like Disney, is a known and loved brand that travels,” said Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos. “With House of Cards and our other original series, we have pioneered new approaches to storytelling and to global distribution and we’re thrilled to be working with Disney and Marvel to take our brand of television to new levels with a creative project of this magnitude.”

Jessica JonesJessica Jones gets her chance to shine.

“Groundbreaking” isn’t the word to describe this. Four series over the course of multiple years that will be spearheaded by Daredevil? Who’s to say that we won’t see these characters cross over throughout the course of this run? The possibilities are exciting, and will only serve to expand Marvel’s popularity with mainstream crowds. At the very least, this should get the bad taste that the Daredevil film left in our mouths.

We know you all have opinions, so let us know and the comments as we count down to 2015, which is looking to be a big year for the Marvel universe.

Briefly: It’s not officially official yet (Director James Mangold is still in negotiations), but it looks like we’re set to get another The Wolverine.

Deadline reports that the film is now in the works, with Mangold in talks to write the treatment for the film (and likely subsequently direct, since he did a pretty bang-up job on the first).

No information on the film’s storyline has been revealed, but we’ll be sure to share it as soon as we hear more!

But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy – the Winter Soldier.

Briefly: Another day, another new clip from Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World.

Unlike yesterday’s clip, which showed off Thor in battle and the awesome power of Mjolnir, today’s clip shows off the heartfelt reunion between Thor and Jane Foster.

Take a look at the clip below, and let us know if you’re looking to the film. Thor: The Dark World hits theatres on November 8th!

http://youtu.be/RQ61yFJOH7s

Marvel Studios’ “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

“Maybe I should learn to fly.”

A fitting opening to an episode that proved that “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is hitting its stride in its fourth episode, with an offering of mix-it-up action with emotional and humorous beats peppered around where you’d like them. What “Eye Spy” did well was set up what we were going to see (SEE what I did there? AND THERE?) while still making it entertaining to watch. With our eye… balls… No, I’m not gonna do that. We’re done now.

We knew that Coulson was probably right about his wayward agent Akela Amador. We knew that Ward’s mention of Skye’s training would come back as a beat later. We knew that the feed was looking at the van before they did. All this, but the storytelling rhythm managed to make us still want to see what would come of it. Especially noteworthy was the very ending shot (not THAT ending shot, but the story end), with the voice-over on Akela Amador finally getting her first uninterrupted, unwatched, sleep in years. From the emotionless, inhuman faces of the opening shot to this very vulnerable idea of someone closing their eyes to sleep, it was an inspired arc.

Agent Coulson had something of an Obi-Wan Kenobi moment this episode, getting to delve into his regrets of the past with former agent Akela Amador. The concept that his trainee had gone to the dark side did not sit well with him — or at all — and he clung to the thought that there was another explanation. This shows a certain vulnerability in Coulson, as he reenacts his own resurrection through the thought-to-be-dead rogue agent. Unlike the agent we saw making the hard choice with Dr. Hall in the previous episode, this was a Coulson not quite willing to take that commitment. Though it remained firmly in the line of saving everyone, even one person doing wrong, if you can.

 ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

“Go for short bus.”

Even Ward got to participate in this episode’s speckling of humorous lines, proving that, despite Skye’s running joke, he is not a robot. He continues to break out of his shell at a similar pace as the show itself. Even though he’s not as much a vehicle for the audience as Skye intends to be, it’s important for us to emphasize with him as much as anyone else, as he was the character we started with. There is more to Ward (hopefully), and as he peels back, he may prove to be one of the more interesting characters. Fitzsimmons were regulated to their usual background science chatter, but their participation in the entire scene in the van was precious enough to save them this episode from what otherwise would’ve been their descent into obscurity and uselessness.

Coulson-and-Skye-590x393

“You value me.”

Our lady spy Skye is developing: she still hasn’t learned how to use a gun quite properly but that’s a note I appreciate. Showing her learning, and failing, instead of just becoming badass overnight is a smart choice and keeps her from teetering over the edge into truly annoying. She’s also showing signs of being subtly (and sometimes not so subtly) overwhelmed by what’s been going on, which is another thing to remember: she used to live in a van down by the river. It’s reasonable for her to be in over her head right now, and it’s a note to appreciate when that comes out in the character, even if some may find her quips obnoxious.

Skye has also developed as far as her relationships, as clearly Ward is giving her more responsibility — you don’t let just anybody see through your eyes these days — and she’s developing a possible two-way fondness for Agent Coulson. Something that’s going to bite her in the ass when her continuing Riding Tide connections surface (possibly even in the next episode, if our preview is any indication. But don’t trust previews. I mean it. I know.) Skye and Coulson’s moments in the van allow us to remember that she’s a little girl out of her depth and he’s just a human beneath that suit (or is he) fighting daily against the superhuman. It’s the taste of humanity that we crave, and have come to expect, in Whedon pieces and I’m hoping that the next episode doesn’t split that open too soon.

We also saw Melinda’s value continue to rise. She sure does not go slowly into that good fieldwork. Kicking it into high gear, she proved that she was going to protect Coulson, even if that potentially meant from himself and his emotional decisions. Though they seemed to smooth things out by the end, I don’t expect this will be their last disagreement on how to run matters.

agents-of-shield-eye-spy

“That’s not me anymore.”

A telling line for Agent Coulson tonight, whose changes are beginning to wear on those who knew him best before. It’s possible that his and Melinda’s fight is a result of his new and possibly not improved (for SHIELD) loose attitude, but we also know this his former protege noticed it — and something else? Did she close her eyes and see that Coulson is not truly Coulson? SHIELD strings us along for another episode with the promise of a development in that direction. With Melinda on the case, I think we are guaranteed to see more and more of this mystery unravel.

Theories are, naturally, bouncing all over the internet. He’s a robot. He’s Vision; that’s a popular one. What do you think? Let me know, or I’ll assume that you’re all the robots instead.

Jeez. You’d think a robot would have something more productive to do with its time.

Briefly: Yesterday, we saw Malekith wake up. Today, it’s time to check out Thor in battle.

Marvel has released another clip from next month’s anticipated Thor: The Dark World. This time, Thor teleports into battle using his trusty Mjolnir, and proceeds to take down all of the bad guys without even trying. Of course, the encounter’s former leader offers the tried and true ‘I had everything under control’ line.

In any case, it’s cool to get a look at the action in the film. Thor: The Dark World is looking great so far, and I can’t wait to see more! Take a look at the clip below, and let us know what you think! The film hits theatres on November 8th!

Briefly: Marvel today debuted a second clip for the highly anticipated Thor sequel, Thor: The Dark World.

While the film’s first clip was a dialogue-filled exchange between Thor and his adoptive brother, this new clip takes a much more silent approach. It features the The Dark World‘s villain, Malekith, waking up inside The Ark, and actually only contains one spoken line.

This movie is going to rock, right?

Briefly: It looks as though the Marvel television universe is set to get bigger.

Deadline has learned that the company is planning a 60-episode package containing four series and a miniseries, to shop to VOD and cable networks. No concrete information about any series or characters has been revealed at this time, nor is there any talent currently attached, but Marvel is allegedly looking at Netflix, Amazon and WGN America as network candidates.

With the roaring success of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (which was recently ordered for a full season), I can imagine that there will be a lot of network interest these projects.

It’s unknown whether or not Marvel’s potential Agent Carter series is included in the package, but we’ll be sure to share more information as soon as we have it!

Briefly: Earlier this month, Ant-Man director Edgar Wright tweeted a behind-the-scenes costume test for the anticipated film. Today, the world learned just who’s on Marvel’s short list to star.

This guy:

PaulRudd

And this guy:

JGL

Yep, that’s Paul Rudd and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Variety states that another potential actor could emerge before negotiations are finished, but that it’s unlikely at this point.

Who would you rather see in the role? I have to cast my vote on Gordon-Levitt, as I’ve been a major fan of his for years, but that’s just me. Sound out below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to Ant-Man! The film hits theatres on July 31st, 2015!

Over the weekend of NYCC 2013, Marvel announced that the playable demo for Lego Marvel Super Heroes will be available later this week for Xbox 360 and PS3. If you’re impatient, like I am, you can head on over to the official homepage at Lego to download a PC trial version right now!

In the demo, you can expect to see heroes such as The Hulk and Iron Man take it to the villains Sandman and Abomination. Demos are suppose to give you a good idea if you’ll end up liking the game enough to purchase when it releases. When Lego Marvel Super Heroes launches on October 22, 2013 for every current-gen system with the PS4 and Xbox One version following in November, you won’t need a demo to tell you that this will be a game you’ll want to play.

Briefly: Back in March, Marvel announced a new, original live arena show called Marvel Universe LIVE!

Today, the company debuted the first teaser trailer for the show, as well as a “Meet the Creators” featurette.

Marvel Universe Live is now in production; the tour will launch in July 2014 with an 85 city North American run before heading overseas.  The show features state-of-the-art special effects, pyrotechnics, aerial displays, martial arts and countless other elements, and with a budget coming in at over 10 million dollars, I’m sure that the final product will be impressive as hell.

Take a look at the new videos below, and let us know if you plan on seeing Marvel Universe LIVE!

Briefly: Following the film’s first clip from earlier this week, Marvel has debuted another new featurette for November’s Thor: The Dark World.

The video spotlights just what Loki’s been up to since The Avengers (being stuck in an Asgardian cell, mostly), and the interesting dynamic of Thor needing his evil adopted brother’s help.

I can’t wait to finally see the film. The serious tone that Thor: The Dark World looks to take is one that I think Iron Man 3 desperately needed. In any case, take a look at the featurette below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the film! Thor: The Dark World hits theatres on November 8th!

Briefly: I’m hoping that these helmets are being touched up in post production (they’re looking pretty awful right now), but this is a pretty cool find in any case!

ComicBookMovie‘s DCMarvelFreshman has compiled a new shot of the Guardians of the Galaxy Nova Corp. It’s clearly composed of a few different set photos, but the image does give a pretty good look at what the Corps costumes look like. Take a look at the image below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the film! Guardians of the Galaxy hits theatres on August 1st, 2014!
