Briefly: Nope. This still doesn’t look anything like the Archie that I grew up with, though I’m still oddly intrigued by the premise of this series.

CW today debuted another short look at next month’s Riverdale premiere, featuring plenty of new footage that adds to the series’ already dark tone.

As a new school year begins, the town of Riverdale is reeling from the recent, tragic death of high school golden boy Jason Blossom — and nothing feels the same… Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) is still the all-American teen, but the summer’s events made him realize that he wants to pursue a career in music — not follow in his dad’s footsteps—despite the sudden end of his forbidden relationship with Riverdale’s young music teacher, Ms. Grundy (Sarah Habel). Which means Archie doesn’t have anyone who will mentor him — certainly not singer Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), who is only focused on her band, the soon-to-be-world-famous Pussycats. It’s all weighing heavily on Archie’s mind — as is his fractured friendship with budding writer and fellow classmate Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse). Meanwhile, girl-next-door Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) is anxious to see her crush Archie after being away all summer, but she’s not quite ready to reveal her true feelings to him. And Betty’s nerves – which are hardly soothed by her overbearing mother Alice (Mädchen Amick) aren’t the only thing holding her back. When a new student, Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes), arrives in town from New York with her mother Hermione (Marisol Nichols), there’s an undeniable spark between her and Archie, even though Veronica doesn’t want to risk her new friendship with Betty by making a play for Archie. And then there’s Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch)… Riverdale’s Queen Bee is happy to stir up trouble amongst Archie, Betty, and Veronica, but Cheryl is keeping secrets of her own. What, exactly, is she hiding about the mysterious death of her twin brother, Jason? Riverdale may look like a quiet, sleepy town, but there are dangers in the shadows…

Every year the Golden Globes come and go, and every year a select few walk away with the fancy awards.

The list of nominee’s have officially been released, and the lineup is quite interesting! This is going to be an exciting award show. I personally hope to see  Deadpool walk away with a couple Globes.

The 75th Golden Globes air January 8th and is hosted by Jimmy Fallon (Editors Note: Can we have a drinking game for all his fake laughter/outbursts?).

And that’s it! What are you thoughts? Are there any nominees that you think should be dropped from the list; or any that should be added? Let us know!

Briefly: I’ve been excited for the idea of Riverdale since it was first announced. Today, The CW debuted the very first teaser for the midseason drama, which is set to premiere on January 26th… and while the teaser looks very CW-like, it doesn’t look all that Archie-like.

The series looks interesting enough, and based on the official synopsis (below) sounds like a fun, popcorn murder mystery, but after thoroughly enjoying Mark Waid and Fiona Staples’ recent Archie series, I can’t help but want more from this.

Then again, I shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. Take a look at the teaser below, read the synopsis, and be sure to let us know what you think!

Briefly: This is so exciting.

I don’t give myself much time to watch TV these days. Work, life, trying to start exercising, transiting, and more take up the bulk of my days.

That said, I’ve loved every second of HBO’s Westworld that I’ve been able to experience over the last couple of months. It’s beautiful, succinct, mysterious, and offers a world so interesting that I simply can’t get enough of it, and after not hearing and early renewal from HBO (as they often announced) I was a little worried that 10 episodes is all the Westworld we’d get.

Today, with a mysterious teaser on their official Facebook page, HBO revealed that Westworld has been renewed.

Fans of the show, however, will be waiting for quite some time once season one concludes next month. In an interview with EW, HBO’s programming president Casey Bloys noted that “My suspicion is sometime in 2018 because of how big the world is and what goes into shooting it. So I don’t have a date exactly – they’re going to have to map it out and write the scripts – but my guess is sometime in ‘18.”

2018 is better than never. What have you thought of Westworld thus far? Sound out below!

The first time I saw a character on television or in the movies that I could somewhat relate to was Artie Abrams (Kevin McHale) on Glee. I was ecstatic that there was someone in a wheelchair on primetime television who wasn’t just playing the token disabled person, but had a vital role in the show’s storyline and was treated as part of the gang by his peers. Of course as soon as I found out McHale was an able bodied actor and not actually a real life wheelchair user a part of me was disappointed.  Over the years Hollywood has overcome adversity in television and movies with the inclusion of more minorities and gay/lesbian characters casted in prominent roles, but what still seems to be lacking is the representation of the disabled community on the big screen.

There are more than 56 million Americans with disabilities in the US and 95% of disabled roles in movies and television go to able bodied actors. When I was 9-years-old I went on an audition for a popular children’s show and even though I got rave reviews at my read through, the director decided to cast an able bodied actor to play the role because i didn’t look “normal” enough because of my physical disability. Sure since then shows like American Horror Story, Breaking Bad and The Middle have cast actors with actual disabilities like Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and Osteogenesis Imperfecta in prominent roles. Reality TV has even gotten on board as well with shows like TLC’s Little People, Big World and Sundance’s Push Girls, but that’s still such a small percentage of working disabled actors compared to our able bodied counterparts playing the roles meant for us. With the exception of shows like Freeform’s Switched At Birth (a drama that predominantly features deaf and hard of hearing actors) there hasn’t been a show on television that focuses not only on the  disability, but the person living with it…until now.

ABC’s new comedy Speechless starring Minnie Driver and Micah Fowler is a story about a family who moves from town to town searching for a school that can provide a full time aid for JJ DiMeo (Fowler), who has cerebral palsy and is non verbal. Maya (Driver) is his overbearing mother fighting for the rights of her son to give him as normal a life as possible. What makes it real is Fowler himself actually has CP and gets around with the use of a walker and wheelchair (however unlike JJ, Micah is able to speak). To add to the authenticity the show’s creator Scott Silveri has loosely based the sitcom off his own life living with his older brother who also has CP, so he gets it. The show shies away from strictly assigning the stereotypical disabled character as an inspiration and instead shows Fowler as a normal 16-year-old boy who’s into girls and likes to curse.

speechlesslogo

In the opening scene we see the DiMeo’s pull into a handicapped spot only to be yelled at by an older woman complaining there’s no handicapped placard on their van. The joke’s on her when JJ comes down his ramp in his chair and the woman angrily drives off. Across the lot are some snarky teenagers staring at the boy and his family to which JJ responds by flipping them off.

When JJ arrives at his new school we find out that the wheelchair accessible ramp is located in the back of the building and is actually a ramp for janitorial use. Maya becomes infuriated that the school is not accessible which reminded me all too much of my own mother and the battles she had to fight to give me as normal a life as possible while living with a physical disability. Words like “crippled” are used nonchalant by other characters in the show and corrected by Driver as this is felt to be a derogatory term in our community. More accurate and familiar moments come when JJ’s class welcomes him to the room with a standing ovation for being an inspiration just because he’s in a chair. The teacher then introduces a student to JJ saying “Zachary’s cousin is deaf so he gets it.” Yeah. I hear that line about once a week. My favorite was when a girl came up to me at a show and said “I totally get what you’re going through because I was in a wheelchair at Coachella once when I broke my leg.” Um I know you’re trying to sympathize but no you do not get it. JJ feels the same way and thinks it’s ridiculous the school sees him as inspirational and want to make him class president. His response to this, “Eat a bag of dicks.”

Other laugh out loud moments come when school staff run in fear from Mama DiMeo and when the janitor tells her “These people know who you are. They even had a big meeting on how to handle you.” My own mom who was watching with me laughed hysterically because every one of my schools feared her as well, and held numerous meetings of what to do when she came in. Once JJ gets rid of his fairy godmother sounding aid whom he hates, he asks Kenneth the janitor if he’d be his voice since JJ thinks he sounds cool. Kenneth seems to get JJ’s sense of humor and wit immediately, throwing out lines for JJ like “Back off jackass! Do I look like a mailbox to you?!” And while Speechless does a good job at showing the person, not just the disability, it also is nice  that the show doesn’t just focus on JJ but the whole DiMeo family and what it’s like living with a special needs individual. JJ and his siblings Dylan (Kyla Kennedy) and Ray (Mason Cook) seem tight and while they are aware of his special needs they seem to treat JJ no differently than any other brother and sister would. The show presents real moments of exhaustion and frustration from Maya and her husband Jimmy (John Ross Bowie) that come from constantly fighting a battle for their child that seems never ending. It also explores how sometimes the siblings of a special needs child can feel left out at times because of all the extra attention the disabled child needs. We see this with Ray as he feels his mom isn’t paying enough attention to him and what he wants. This can happen often with other children in special needs families and it’s important to remember while someone like JJ needs assistance more than his brother and sister, Ray and Dylan need just as much attention from their parents as well. The most heartwarming moment comes at the end of the show when JJ comes to his brother’s aid and gets up on stage at the school fair with the help of his new voice to tell his peers he accepts the nomination for school president so that his brother Ray can stay at their new school. JJ sacrifices his happiness for the happiness of his brother.

If Speechless teaches us anything it’s that people with disabilities are just like everyone else, we have actual feelings, wants and needs just like the rest of mankind. JJ’s character is just another clever and sarcastic teenager into girls that loves his family and hates school; he just happens to be in a wheelchair. This show is important in today’s day and age with the onslaught of open mindedness and individuality this decade’s millennials possess and it hits close to home especially for me because I am part of this community. To be honest I was expecting this show to be like all the others throwing either the “your disability is an inspiration” or “if i was disabled like you I’d kill myself” storyline around Speechless does neither, and I thank Silveri for that.

Just in the last few years people with disabilities have been breaking down the stereotype throughout the entertainment industry. Ali Stroker became the first person in a wheelchair on Broadway in Spring Awakening. Jillian Mercado who has Muscular Dystrophy was offered a modeling gig with Beyonce’s clothing line Formation, and Peter Dinklage whom we all know as Tyrion Lannister (who has a form of Dwarfism) has won both an Emmy and Golden Globe for his work on Game of Thrones. It’s time for Hollywood and the rest of the world to stop looking at us like the freak or treating us like the butt of the joke, but to start respecting us and recognizing our talents despite our limitations. We’re no longer hiding in the shadows but making our voices heard and Micah Fowler is a part of this revolution.

Speechless airs Wednesdays on ABC at 8:30pm EST/PST

Melissa Sanchez is a Illustrator and Graphic Designer from Los Angeles who was born with a rare condition called Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita. It affects the joints and muscles and leaves her in chronic pain on a daily basis. She gets around with the use of a walker and wheelchair. Despite her disability she lives as normal a life as possible; she graduated from USC, has worked at record labels and loves to go to punk concerts often, considering 75% of her time is filled with doctors appts and hospital visits. She’s also obsessed with horror movies and Disneyland.

Briefly: Following the series’ full trailer from just a few days back, HBO today revealed a sharp official poster for its upcoming Westworld.

The series premieres on October 2nd and stars Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Rodrigo Santoro, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Ben Barnes, Jimmi Simpson, Clifton Collins, Jr., Simon Quarterman and Angela Sarafyan.

Westworld is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin, exploring a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged.

This thing looks freaking crazy. Take a look at the poster below, and be sure to let us know just how excited you are for this one.

Westworld

Briefly: We got our real first look at Ash vs. Evil Dead‘s upcoming second season in the too-gory-for-SDCC trailer released last month, and Starz today has debuted another look at what is sure to be one of the best series’ of the Fall.

This time around, that look comes in the form of a two-minute feature that tells us a little of what we can expect this time around, while also featuring some sweet, sweet interviews with cast and executives.

The second season roars back into action with Ash leaving his beloved Jacksonville and returning to his hometown of Elk Grove, Michigan. There, he confronts Ruby. The former enemies have to form an uneasy alliance as Elk Grove soon becomes the nucleus of evil.

Take a look at the video below, and let us know if you’re excited for the season!

The more we see about HBO’s upcoming series Westworld, the more I cannot wait for it to air. Check out the newest trailer below to see what I mean.

WESTWORLD is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin, exploring a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged.

Based off the 1973 film of the same name, Westworld takes place in an amusement park of sorts. Attendees can come and indulge in all sorts of fantasies, set in the American Old West.

When the project was first announced, I took it upon myself to wrangle up a copy of the Michael Crichton original. I highly suggest the film to any Sci-Fi fan out there.

HBO’s Westworld airs October 2nd and stars Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Rodrigo Santoro, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Ben Barnes, Jimmi Simpson, Clifton Collins, Jr., Simon Quarterman and Angela Sarafyan.

Briefly: Following that phenomenal sizzle reel that Netflix released last month at SDCC, the company has finally debuted the key art for its next highly anticipated Marvel series, Luke Cage.

We’re still way too far off from the September 30th premiere, which really, really can’t come close enough, but… at least we can re-watch Stranger Things a few more times before this one finally releases?

After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) becomes a fugitive who attempts to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But soon he is pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city – forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.

Take a look at the art below, and be sure to let us know if you’re excited for this one.

LukeCageKey

Briefly: Aw yiss.

We were all expecting to see some footage from Marvel / Netflix’ Luke Cage during the San Diego Comic-Con panel, but I certainly didn’t expect to be blown away by the footage that was shown.

Yeah, it’s definitely a teaser, and doesn’t reveal much at all about what we’ll see in the series, but I’ll be damned if it isn’t a blast to watch. The sound track and the slow-motion action fit together perfectly, and we cannot freaking wait for the September 30th debut.

Briefly: Preceding the official American Gods panel tomorrow (from 3:15-4:15PM in room 6BCF), Starz has debuted the first official poster for its upcoming, incredibly anticipated American Gods.

The series posits a war brewing between old and new gods: the traditional gods of mythological roots from around the world steadily losing believers to an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs. Its protagonist, Shadow Moon, is an ex-con who becomes bodyguard and traveling partner to Mr. Wednesday, a conman but in reality one of the older gods, on a cross-country mission to gather his forces in preparation to battle the new deities.

I’m actually not overly familiar with the book myself, but based on that description, it’s definitely jumped to the top of my must-read list.

You can take a look at the poster below, and be sure to check back for more SDCC and American Gods coverage as it’s announced!

AmericanGods

Today marks the first (unofficial) day of San Diego Comic-Con 2016. Preview night is usually relegated to damaging your liver and scoping out all the sick deals before you try to wait in line for Hall H.

I got to check out the VR Convention, just across the street from the convention center. There were multiple vendors there all showing off their great VR products and innovations. The group that caught my eye the most was Radiant Images.

They’re a manufacturing and rental house out of LA that focuses on 360 cameras. We were able to check out a few of their products.

The one that most of you will be able to check out, is the Mobius POV VR. A head mounted full 360 head shell that captures the wearers entire view.

Mobius POV VR

The device was INCREDIBLY light, and has a brace that runs down the wearers back. Keeping the device very still. The directors/editors can choose how to stitch together the footage, so that you can get the feeling of being on the shoulders of the character. It’s not just going to be the cheesy First Person Shooter footage feeling.

There will be an upcoming scene in Suicide Squad that will feature footage shot on this rig.

The other very compelling camera setup they offer is the Jaunt One, code named Viper (after the probe droids from Star Wars). It features 24 cameras that all output at either 8 or 4K resolution.

Jaunt One VR

The thing that piqued my interest the most about this rig, was its portability. This can be hooked up to a wire mobile rig or even a drone. It can be used for high speed environments, like sporting events.

The last setup we were demoed was the Nokia OZO. A handheld unit that is designed for mimicking the human eye.

Nokia OZO

Each of the OZO’s 8 sensors are 64 millimeters apart. The perfect focal distance to mimic the human eye. The handle of the unit features a 500 GB SSD quick swap drive. So that when one hard drive is full, you can swap them out for an empty one and keep on shooting. These cameras were used to film all the VR and 360 footage at the Euro 2016 football tournament.

Radiant Images is an incredible team of people that really want to push the future of 360 and VR footage. Designing and renting out their own, in house made camera rigs. They have those that fly and they have those that zip across the sand at incredible speed.

Be sure to check out their official website for look at some of their other incredible products.

Briefly: Starz Ash Vs. Evil Dead is by far one of the goriest properties that I’ve seen on television.

It’s so gory, that apparently the just released red-band trailer for the series upcoming second season has been banned from San Diego Comic-Con.

Of course, the series itself has a rather large presence at the convention, including an offsite event, a signing, screening, and panel. Here’s the schedule:

“Ash vs Evil Dead” Autograph Session

Saturday, July 23rd at 2:00 PM – “Ash vs Evil Dead” Cabin at Petco Park Interactive Zone

“Ash vs Evil Dead” San Diego Comic-Con Panel

Saturday, July 23rd at 6:45 PM – Room 6A in the San Diego Convention Center

“Ash vs Evil Dead” World Premiere Screening of Season Two Premiere

Saturday, July 23rd at 10:00 PM – Room 6DE in the San Diego Convention Center

The second season roars back into action with Ash leaving his beloved Jacksonville and returning to his hometown of Elk Grove, Michigan. There, he confronts Ruby. The former enemies have to form an uneasy alliance as Elk Grove soon becomes the nucleus of evil.

Take a look at the trailer below, and be sure to let us know if you’re excited for the return of Ash.

Holy tomato, we’re heading back to the days of paper classified ads, genuine interest in music videos, and the seductive lure of satellite television! That’s right, we’re going intergalactic and eating everything with 1986’s TerrorVision. The French exchange student from Better Off Dead, the Wolfman from Monster Squad, and Beef from Phantom of the Paradise do their best to avoid becoming space monster poop, and the HMN guys do their best to find something, anything critical to say about this charming 80s time capsule. Now, mother’s going to make you take your pill so we can all enjoy Horror Movie Night!

FX is planning on making a big splash this year in San Diego. Along with planning a live Archer event, FX is also bringing an immersive Virtual Reality experience to any and all American Horror Story fans. However, the VR experience is part of much larger art exhibit!

FXhibition SDCC

At the Hilton Bayfront, fans of FX shows Archer, American Horror Story, The Strain, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, and Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll will be treated to an immersive experience that places fans in their favorite worlds. As for the horror fans out there, “American Horror Story will curate a virtual reality experience unlike any other that takes participants on a unique journey through terrifying encounters inspired by the hair-raising series.”

Horror and VR experiences seem to be the perfect match and it’s sure to garner some attention during the convention. Lucky for fans, FX has set up a website that allows you to reserve a spot for your VR experience! Starting July 19th, you can book your spot at AHSReservations.com.

As for the other FX shows, here’s what’s planned for the FXhibition:

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’s Paddy’s Pub will offer an escape from the heat providing water on tap for fans to stay cool throughout the day. A real bar will house the water taps and consumers will receive a branded collapsible cup to enjoy their drink. The FX Lounge will also be available throughout the day to provide shade and entertainment, where guests can rest their feet in seating inspired by some of the world’s most iconic chairs re-interpreted as notable props from various FX series, including the American Horror Story: Hotel Mattress as a Barcelona Bench and Archer’s Martini Olive as an Oliva Chair.

On display in the FX Sculpture Garden, fans can take advantage of social media worthy photo opportunities with iconic characters sculpted as busts including, Archer’s “Pam Poovey,” American Horror Story: Asylum’sWhite Nun, Man Seeking Woman’s Troll, The Strain’s “Quinlan,” Baskets’ Clown and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s “Frank Reynolds” as the “troll” character from The Nightman Cometh.

Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll’s turbulent rock culture will be illustrated through a dramatic larger-than-life installation, featuring a smashed guitar with broken pieces several feet in size for a life size exhibit.

For more information on the FXhibition, you can visit their site here as we get closer to SDCC!

Briefly: Netflix doesn’t go to San Diego Comic-Con.

The company has been producing some of the most loved, talked about, recommended, and anticipated series for years now, and though they craft some of the very best products bearing the Marvel moniker, Netflix still hasn’t made an appearance in San Diego.

That, according to Deadline, is set to change this year with Luke Cage.

It appears that Cage himself, Mike Coulter will be in attendance, along with showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker and co-star Alfre Woodward. Rumour has it that Netflix will debut some new footage from the anticipated series, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see a panel added to the schedule sometime in the near future.

Are you looking forward to the series? Are you planning to attend the SDCC panel? Be sure to let us know in the comments below! Luke Cage premieres on September 30th!

Some of the most fantastic panels have taken place inside of Hall H on Saturday night’s these past few years. However, we’re in for a change as it seems DCTV is doing away with our Hall H after dark parties. Instead, Warner Bros. Television has opted for owning Ballroom 20 for what seems to be the majority of Saturday. While this sounds great too, it’s also worth mentioning that Ballroom 20 does not sit nearly as many people has Hall H does. This may spell trouble for anyone looking to attend any one of DCTV’s panels, including Gotham and in addition to iZombie.

What’s also troubling here is that DCTV panels seem to be going on during the daytime on Saturday. This means DC fans may have to choose between a potential Justice League panel and their favorite DCTV show.

That being said, WBTV seems to have spreads its wings this year, even hosting a panels on Sunday! Check these listings and let us know where you’re heading this SDCC!

6:30 p.m.-7:20 p.m. Riverdale Pilot Screening and Q&A — Things aren’t always what you expect in Riverdale. Based on the iconic characters from Archie Comics and produced by Berlanti Productions (The Flash, Supergirl, Blindspot, Everwood), this one-hour drama is a bold, subversive take on the surreality of small-town life. As a new school year begins, the town of Riverdale is reeling from the recent, tragic death of high school golden boy Jason Blossom — and nothing feels the same. Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) is still the all-American teen, but the summer’s events made him realize that he wants to pursue a career in music — and not follow in his dad’s footsteps — despite the sudden end of his forbidden relationship with Riverdale’s young music teacher, Ms. And Betty’s nerves — which are hardly soothed by her overbearing mother, Alice (Mädchen Amick) — aren’t the only thing holding her back. When a new student, Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes), arrives in town from New York with her mother Hermione (Marisol Nichols), there’s an undeniable spark between she and Archie, even though Veronica doesn’t want to risk her new friendship with Betty by making a play for Archie. Riverdale may look like a quiet, sleepy town, but there are dangers in the shadows. Riverdale makes its Comic-Con debut with a screening of the complete pilot episode, followed by a Q&A with series stars and executive producers. Riverdale is from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios, with executive producers Greg Berlanti (Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Blindspot), Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Supergirl, Glee), Sarah Schechter (Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Blindspot) and Jon Goldwater (Archie Comics). Riverdale premieres midseason on The CW. Become a fan of Riverdale on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/CWRiverdale, and follow the show on Twitter at @CW_Riverdale. Room 6BCF

7:25-8:15 p.m. Frequency Pilot Screening and Q&A — Based on the New Line feature film, Frequency is the story of a father and daughter who are supernaturally reunited two decades after his suspicious and untimely death. New York detective Raimy Sullivan was only 7 when her father, Frank Sullivan, an undercover cop, abandoned his family in pursuit of a case that led not only to his family’s breakup, but also his eventual death undercover. Always believing her dad died in disgrace as a corrupt cop, Raimy set forth to surpass him in law enforcement, rising through the ranks to detective. But everything she knows changes when somehow Raimy and Frank connect — across two decades — over Frank’s vintage ham radio in the garage. Where once Frank was lost in the shadows of his undercover work in 1996, he has now miraculously been found by his now-grown daughter in 2016. As they forge a new relationship while working together in two time periods to close an unsolved serial murder investigation, their emotional connection transcends time to not only repair the broken bonds of their family, but also defy fate and change the course of destiny. Frequency makes its Comic-Con debut with a screening of the complete pilot episode, followed by a Q&A with series stars Peyton List (The Tomorrow People, The Flash), Riley Smith (Nashville, The Messengers) and Mekhi Phifer (Torchwood, ER), along with executive producers Jeremy Carver (Supernatural, U.S. version of Being Human) and Jennifer Gwartz (Lethal Weapon, Veronica Mars). From Lin Pictures in association with Warner Bros. Television, Frequency premieres Wednesday, October 5, at 9/8c on The CW. Become a fan on Facebook at www.facebook.com/CWFrequency and follow the show on Twitter at @CWFrequency. Room 6BCF

8:20-9:15 p.m. Time After Time Pilot Screening and Q&A — Using the 1979 novel and movie as a launching point, Time After Time chronicles the epic adventures of a young H.G. Wells. At the age of 28, the 19th century scholar has yet to publish any of his landmark science fiction novels, but his idealistic thinking and radical ideas have led him to actually create a time machine. When his longtime friend — the charismatic (and secretly psychopathic) Dr. John Stevenson, aka Jack the Ripper — finds himself cornered by the authorities at Wells’ London home, he escapes to present-day New York City using the time machine. Naturally, Wells follows, but instead of the Utopian society he imagined would be in the future, he finds a world more aligned to Stevenson’s temperament. Fortunately, Wells meets up with Jane Walker, an assistant curator at a museum staging an exhibition on H.G. Wells, the Father of Science Fiction. As Wells and Jane come together, they will not only play a dangerous endgame with Stevenson, but also find themselves involved with the incredible characters and scenarios that inspired Wells’ War of the Worlds, The Invisible Man, The Island of Dr. Moreau and more. An epic love story charged with danger and adventure, Time After Time gives an unpredictable spin on the mythology of H.G. Wells by looking at the world of today through the eyes of yesterday. Time After Time makes its Comic-Con debut with a screening of the complete pilot episode, followed by a Q&A with executive producers Kevin Williamson (The Vampire Diaries, Dawson’s Creek, The Following, Scream movies) and Marcos Siega (Blindspot, The Following, The Vampire Diaries, Dexter, Cold Case, Veronica Mars) and series stars Freddie Stroma (Harry Potter films, Pitch Perfect, Game of Thrones, 13 Hours, UnREAL) and Genesis Rodriguez (Identity Thief, Man on a Ledge, Entourage, Big Hero 6). Based on the novel written by Karl Alexander and produced by Outerbanks Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television, Time After Time premieres midseason on ABC. Briefly: US residents are in for a treat!

The rest of us won’t be able to watch Cinemax’ Outcast until it premieres on June 3rd, but the network has just released the entire first episode of the anticipated series online for US viewers.

Kyle Barnes has been plagued by demonic possession all his life. Now, with the help of the Reverend Anderson, a preacher who has personal demons of his own, the young man embarks on a journey to find answers and regain the normal life he lost. But what Kyle discovers could change his fate — and the fate of the world — forever.

Based on the Skybound/Image comic title by creator Robert Kirkman (“The Walking Dead”) and artist Paul Azaceta, Patrick Fugit (“Gone Girl”) stars as Barnes, a man searching for answers, and redemption, who sequesters himself from those he loves for fear of causing greater hurt.

Philip Glenister (“Life on Mars”) stars as Reverend Anderson, a West Virginia evangelist who believes he is a soldier in God’s holy war against the forces of evil on Earth. An inveterate drinker and gambler, he doesn’t believe God intends people to sweat the small stuff.

Gabriel Bateman (“Stalker”) stars as Joshua Austin, an eight-year-old who lives across town from Kyle. To his family’s dismay, he appears to be in the clutches of demonic possession, but there’s something very different about this possession and its connection to Kyle Barnes.

Other cast members include: Wrenn Schmidt (HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire”) as Kyle’s adopted sister, Megan Holter, a child psychologist who makes it her mission to fix the people around her; Reg E. Cathey (HBO’s “The Wire”) as Rome’s Chief of Police, Chief Giles, who has seen enough to know there’s some truth to his friend Rev. Anderson’s assertions about demons; Kate Lyn Sheil (“House of Cards”) as Kyle’s former wife, Allison Barnes, who has lingering doubts about what happened in their marriage; Julia Crockett (“Law & Order: Criminal Intent”) as Kyle’s mother, Sarah Barnes, whose apparent mental illness tainted his childhood; David Denman (“13 Hours”) as Megan’s husband, Mark Holter, a by-the-book small town cop whose temper can get him in trouble; and Brent Spiner (“Star Trek: The Next Generation”) as Sidney, whose dapper appearance and smiling demeanor hide malevolence.

This is fabulous news!

After the phenomenal success of this years X-Files miniseries, Fox Executives have been in talks with the show’s creators to have another installment of the hit sci-fi show!

At a Fox TV press event today, Chairman Dana Walden was quoted as saying:

We have had conversations with Chris Carter, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. I believe everyone is on board to do another installment of the show. Hopefully this season we will be able to get it done and that the same time next year (May), we will have something to announce.

The next run of X-Files is planned for a 2017-2018 release. No word of when principle filming will begin.

In a sad turn of events, it would seem Peggy’s adventures have ended, both in her prime in Agent Carter, and as Captain America’s last tie to his old life in Captain America: Civil War. I think it would be fair to state that Agent Carter wasn’t treated as well as it could have been.

AgentCarterS02

For now, the only surviving Marvel television show is Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. If we are to believe reports for the upcoming Agents spin-off show, we could expect some incoming news on Marvel’s Most Wanted this summer. Fans of Hayley Atwell will be delighted to hear that she has already signed onto a new show, Conviction, which is also set to premier on ABC.

We’re back with another recap of tonight’s ArrowMonument Point wasn’t just an episode that was actively setting the stage for a Darhk vs. Arrow bout. It also served as a pivotal point for Team Arrow, which is something they’re probably going to remember for the rest of their lives. So without further ado…

Warning: Spoilers Ahead!

Monument Point

What may come as a surprise to some, Monument Point has served as a plot device in DC lore, previous to appearing in Arrow tonight. Unfortunately for the city itself, it’s no stranger to disaster.

Arrow 421

In tonight’s episode, Team Arrow, I mean Felicity, managed to reroute a nuclear missile so that it would hit 20 miles east of his destination. This destination turned out to be Havencroft, which is a suburb of Monument Point. While Monument Point may be safe from widespread destruction, those living in the city are still in danger of fallout and radiation. It’s quite possible that this disaster will not be ignored by larger entities and may play as a pivotal factor in the next season of Arrow.

All the Best Cowboys…

Daddy issues are frequent in this show, and have been since Oliver watched his dad commit suicide right in front of him. This week, we got a few of doses of daddy-drama when Donna, Felicity’s mom, confronted Lance regarding his lie about knowing the Black Canary’s true identity. After a few stern words, Lance revised his report stating that he knew, and cooperated with his daughter’s heroics. While this may jeopardize his reinstatement in the police force, Lance can at least rest easy knowing he made Donna happy.

Arrow 421 fel and dad

The second dose came when Felicity was forced to contact her father to help save the world. While Noah regarded the whole affair as making up for missed bonding time, Felicity kept their interactions strictly professional. There’s no telling as to what Noah will become after this ordeal. Who knows? Maybe he’ll go live out at that cabin the woods, or rent another cabin somewhere near by. I hear there’s a cabin near Central City that recently went back on the market.

]

The third dose came when Thea had a run in with her father. Merlyn explained that the only reason why he’s working with Darhk was, of course, to perserve his life, as well as his daughter’s life. To be fair, had Oliver not taking the mantle of Ra’s Al Ghul away from Merlyn, he’d probably be utilizing the League of Assassins to take down HIVE. Still, doesn’t Merlyn have a few loyalists still? Don’t be surprised if they show up at the end of this season.

Darhk

Darhk wasn’t in much of this episode. However, in the bit he was in, he looked fierce. It’s been properly stated that the reason why Darhk wanted nuclear annihilation, besides being able to rebuild afterward, was because his power thrives on the death of others. Nuclear bombs, of course, are the quickest way to kill people. Since one bomb went off, killings tens of thousands, we can assume that Darhk is mighty powerful right about now.

Arrow 421

There’s really no telling as to what Oliver is going to do now that Darhk is more powerful than he has been all season. Maybe we’ll get another couple of flashbacks as to how he was able to survive that magical situation on Lian-Yu. The two arcs have to be connected somehow, and I’m sure Oliver will probably have one last thing up his sleeve that doesn’t involve learning magic in some back room at a casino.

A.R.G.U.S

A.R.G.U.S. was seen at the tail end of this episode helping out Team Arrow. Most of the agents, including the head of A.R.G.U.S. herself, helped by fending off a number of HIVE soldiers. Their presence here is meaningful because it explains why no one is helping out at Central City.

Arrow 421 argus

Zoom has the city under siege with a meta-human army at his command, but I’m sure SWAT has it covered.

Anarky

Anarky made another appearance this episode, just when I was beginning to forget about him. He’s still hellbent on taking down Darhk, and may prove to be a vital asset to Team Arrow down the line when it’s time to take Darhk down.

Arrow 421 Anarky

Remember, Anarky has been involved in each of Team Arrow’s attempts at taking Darhk down. The last time he was involved, Anarky had kidnapped Darhk’s family, leaving Darhk vulnerable for Team Arrow to come in and find his weak point.

That’s all for this week! As always, thanks for reading!

Briefly: Outcast is finally almost here.

Cinemax has just debuted a new poster and teaser for the anticipated series, this time around showing a lot more creepy, creepy footage.

You can take a look at the poster and trailer below, and be sure to let us know if you’re excited! Outcast hits Cinemax on June 3rd!

OutcastPoster

Tonight’s episode of Arrow moved us one step closer to a final resolution between Damien Darhk and Team Arrow. While the episode seemed to move alone steadily, it was nice not having to flashback to Lian-Yu. Also, it would be nice to at least see Oliver talk to Constantine once in a while!

Warning: Spoilers Ahead!

The Diggles

After many years of searching for the man who killed his little brother, John Diggle came to the realization that he had to do it himself. It was the right choice, especially after Andy kept coming at Diggle and threatening his family. Still, it’s probably going to be a little difficult if this whole event ever comes up in conversation with Diggle’s nephew.

Arrow 420 Diggles

The death of Andy signifies Diggle’s transformation. This was also marked by the contrasting views Lyla had when Diggle came back injured from his encounter with Andy. Diggle came close to reverting back to his own self by putting himself in danger without thinking of any repercussions that may follow his death. However, by the end of the episode, it was clear Diggle has changed for the better.

Magic 101

This episode also saw Oliver attempting to learn magic to combat Darhk’s abilities. During his training session, Oliver fought Deathstroke, Darhk, and other past enemies from Lian-Yu. This was a pretty cool segment, and it was nice seeing the Deathstroke suit dusted off.

Arrow 420 Mt

During this training session, we also learned that the reason why Darhk chose Star City as his base of operations was because of the existence of a magical “nexus”, similar to the one found on Lian-Yu. It’s assumed that this is where Darhk gets his powers, using that totem to channel his magical abilities. By the end of the episode, we found that two can play that game:

Thea

After taking some time off from the team while Oliver left to Hub City, Thea found herself in a bad situation in which she was drugged and kidnapped to a shelter under Star City. The shelter is of course operated by HIVE, and we’ve seen a glimpse of this place earlier this season. The dome is powered and its air is filtered by plants. HIVE was obviously thinking long term here, as they should be.

Arrow 420

As for Oliver’s ex-political advisor, he’s clearly under the control of HIVE, presumably not by choice. He mentioned that he was taking “vitamins” given to him by Ruvé Adams, Darhk’s wife. Of course, we know that this pills are used to take control of people, turning them into agents of HIVE. We saw this happen to Andy Diggle, and there’s no word yet on if the effects can be reversed.

Genesis

Finally, we caught wind of Darhk’s endgame. It’s assumed that Darhk plans on nuking the world and rebuilding his own in the future. His endgame is peculiar because it affects the entire world. You would think that Vandal Savage would have something to say about this.

Arrow 420 Darhk

If you remember more than a few weeks back, Damien Darhk appeared in a Legends of Tomorrow episode. In it, Darhk was seen trying to buy nuclear weapons. It’s clear now that nuking the planet has been in Darhk’s head for a few decades, if not longer. His yearn to control the planet also falls in line with his teachings within the League of Assassins, and it’s also probably what got him cast out of the league entirely, paving way to the Ra’s Al Ghul we saw last season.

Hub City

Lastly, but certainly not least, I wanted to expand a little on Hub City. The city is patrolled by The Question. Question is an expert martial artist, vigilante, sometimes conspiracy theorist, and a master detective. If he looks familiar to you, much of his persona was borrowed to create Rorschach of Watchmen.

Arrow Question

The city also pays homage to Ted Kord, also known as the Blue Beetle. Kord Industries has also been featured repeatedly on Arrow.

Briefly: Finally!

just finished the first season of FOX’s Wayward Pines last week (and loved every second of it), and I’ve been eagerly awaiting news of the upcoming second season ever since.

Last week we saw the first teaser poster for the upcoming episodes, and today FOX has debuted an awesome first teaser trailer. Yep, it’s full of mystery and doesn’t explain much of anything, but it shows off new and returning cast, and reminds us that this season is set to be all about some new residents.

The 10-episode psychological thriller picks up after the shocking events of the season 1 finale, with the residents of Wayward Pines battling against the iron-fisted rule of the First Generation. Dr. Theo Yedlin (Jason Patric) — a new resident of Wayward Pines — awakens from suspended animation and finds himself in the middle of this rebellion, as he tries to understand what Wayward Pines really is and help preserve the endangered human race. CJ Mitchum (Djimon Hounsou), an original resident of Wayward Pines and a historian for the town with extensive knowledge of its complex origins, is the only one who can provide a unique bridge between the current world of Wayward Pines and the previous world that humans inhabited. Megan Fisher (Hope Davis), is in charge of the scientific research being conducted on the Abbies, and remains deeply involved in the development of the hearts and minds of the future of humanity — Wayward Pines’ “First Generation”.

Take a look at the teaser below, and be sure to let us know what you think! Wayward Pines returns on May 25th!

We’re back with another recap for The Flash! After a few ups and downs, I wholeheartedly believe that tonight, we were dealt one of the best episodes of the series. This episode, we saw a Barry Allen without speed. While it may not be the first time we’ve had an episode  where Barry struggles to live without his speed, we haven’t seen an episode where things truly become dire right in front of a helpless Barry. If Grant Gustin hasn’t solidified his role as Barry Allen for you, I don’t know what it’s going to take for that happen. Let’s get on with the recap!

Warning: Spoilers Ahead!

Caitlin

Caitlin continues to have one of the most underrated and interesting character arcs this season. Let me reiterate by saying that we first found Caitlin working at a STAR Labs competitor at the start of this season. She was apprehensive at the notion of even returning to STAR Labs, let alone become part of the team again. This was completely understandable since she lost Ronnie at the end of season one. Now, having ben kidnapped by Zoom, Caitlin is continually being exposed to “the darkness.”

The Flash 220 Caitlin

Now, I’m not going to jump the shark and come right out and say Caitlin will assume her role as Killer Frost, but what I think we can expect in the third season is a darker Caitlin. You can’t be next to Zoom, especially for these next few days that can be described as the darkest days Central City has had, and expect to be completely fine afterward.

Iris

This episode marked Iris revealing her feelings about Barry. While there have been hints here and there over the course of the first season and this one, this marked an important step in developing their relationship out further. As long as it doesn’t feel forced, and as long as Iris doesn’t get the Felicity treatment, I’m fully on board.

The Flash 220 BarryIris

Last season, Iris felt like an accessory. She was the daughter, she was the love-interest; And after Eddie died, she had to rediscover herself. In doing so, she had to forge her own path into becoming part of Team Flash. At the time, Barry was involved with Patty, eliminating her role as the love-interest for the time being. So as long as she keeps her identity and doesn’t revert back to what she was in the first season, I think we can expect a great dynamic to be added in season three of The Flash.

Cisco and Dante

The Flash 220 Cisco

The brotherly love was strong with this episode. Cisco has been repeatedly made to feel left out of his own family, and Dante wasn’t helping the cause. Their relationship was on full display when Cisco met up with Dante at the bar, but for viewers who are new to the show or don’t quite remember their relationship from season one, a full transition took effect. Who knew all you need to repair a relationship with an estranged family member is an evil doppleganger from another Earth trying to kill you both?

Barry

In dramatic fashion, it would appear Barry got his speed back, but not without disappearing into the Speed Force. Seeing this transition was hard to watch, depending on how invested you are in the show. But regardless, it was very cool seeing this happen. As to where Barry went, he’s probably lost in the Speed Force, and he’s going to need some rescuing. There have been multiple interpretations as to where this place is, and/or how it happens. In the Justice League animated series, Wally West runs so fast, in trying to defeat a merged Brainiac and Lex Luthor, that he becomes one with the Speed Force and needs the rest of the League to help get him out.

In another instance, specifically in Young Justice, Wally is again subject to becoming part of the Speed Force.

Now, how would I imagine Barry gets out? Well, it’ll be up to Team Flash. However, I would love it if Jesse and Wally use speedster-like powers to tap into the Speed Force and save Barry.

Another thing I’d like to point out is the possibility at an answer as to what exactly that time wraith was a few episodes back. If you remember, Barry went back in time to have Eobard Thawne teach him how to get faster. During that trip, a time wraith chased Barry around and nearly killed him.

The Flash 220 Time Wraith

If you look closely, this time wraith is wearing Flash’s cowl, but no suit. The body also looks charred. Could it be possible that this time wraith was born when Barry entered the Speed Force? If so, it would make sense that all that would be left of Barry is a charred body and the cowl. After all, when Zoom went into STAR Labs, he only picked up Barry’s suit, which was missing the cowl.

The Flash 220

Jesse and Wally

I believe we have just witnessed the origins of Jesse Quick and Kid Flash and I could not be more excited. The wave that knocked the two over was probably Barry, in Speed Force form, I guess you could say. In the comics, there have been multiple instances where a speedster becomes one with the Speed Force. In one comic arc in particular, Barry turns into the lighting that strikes him at his origin, making him the Flash. Seeing what happened to Jesse and Wally was reminiscent of that.

The Flash 220 Wally

I would say the chances of seeing two speedsters helping Barry out in the coming episodes are pretty high. Since they were hit by the result of Barry getting his powers back, it’s hard to say just how fast they’ll be, but we can assume they won’t be as fast as Barry. Here’s to hoping seeing them in action in the penultimate episode this season!

Who’s in the Mask?!

Things are starting to ramp up to another big reveal at the end of this season. One, if not the most mysterious story threads this season has been the identity of the man in the mask being held in Zoom’s lair. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I believe the man in the mask is the real Jay Garrick. However, what’s key here is that this Jay Garrick is that of Barry’s father’s doppleganger.

The Flash 214

A major hint was dropped tonight when Barry visited his father at his far-away cabin. During their conversation, Henry informed Barry that his mother’s maiden name was Garrick. How this version of Jay Garrick will relate to Hunter Zolomon is yet to be seen. However, one theory would suggest that they’re step-brothers, or brothers. We’ll just have to wait and see!
