Star Trek: The Video Game is (finally) just four days away from release! Namco Bandai today released two new behind-the-scenes videos for the title, showcasing plenty of new information including how the game’s sounds were crafted, and just what the story is about.

We’ve been watching progress on the title for some time now, and it’s quite easy to see from these latest videos, just how polished the game has become. Star Trek: The Video Game helps bridge the gap between 2009’s Star Trek, and next month’s Star Trek Into Darkness. The game also features full voice acting from what looks like all of the movie’s stars.

Watch the new videos below, and let us know if you’re planning to pick up the game! Star Trek: The Video Game hits shelves on April 23rd!

Wow. This trailer is flat out amazing.

Paramount has just debuted a new (and final) theatrical trailer for JJ Abrams wildly anticipated Star Trek Into Darkness. The preview doesn’t feature much new footage, but the simple way that everything is cut together makes for an emotional 2.5 minutes. It’s goosebump inducing, really.

Star Trek Into Darkness hits theatres on May 17th, and we couldn’t be more excited! Watch the new trailer below, and let us know what you think!

In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes ‘Star Trek Into Darkness.’ When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Paramount today released a new poster for JJ Abrams wildly anticipated Star Trek Into Darkness. This has to be one of the coolest images I’ve seen from the film; simply the scale of this giant, prominent ship falling to Earth makes me shiver in anticipation of seeing it happen on the big screen.

Check out the poster below, and let us know what you think! Star Trek Into Darkness flies into theatres on May 17th.

2013 is just flying by, isn’t it? It seems like just yesterday that we were celebrating the new year and throwing out our Christmas trees, and now we’re just a month away from some of the biggest movie releases of the year, including Iron Man 3 and Star Trek Into Darkness.

Marketing is in full swing for both films. Yesterday, an intense new clip for Iron Man 3 was released, and today, Paramount unveiled a new poster for Star Trek Into Darkness. This one features Benedict Cumberbatch walking away from a burning city. As expected, it looks pretty badass.

If you were lucky enough to be in London during last night’s Earth Hour and just happened to look out into the dark, dark night, you may have noticed something very cool glowing amongst the stars.

Paramount used the evening to hold an awesome promotional event in the city; while all of the lights were off, a gigantic starfleet symbol appeared in the sky. I wonder how many UFO reports the city received over the course of the evening…

Star Trek Into Darkness flies into theatres (and our hearts) on May 17th.

After three years of development (and three years of everyone wondering when it would be coming out), developer Digital Extremes today finally revealed when we’ll be able to get our hands on Star Trek: The Video Game.

Unsurprisingly, it’s right around the time that the highly anticipated Star Trek Into Darkness will hit theatres. Star Trek: The Video Game will launch for PS3 and Xbox 360 on April 23rd, just a few weeks before the next film is set to premiere.

Namco Bandai has also revealed a new making-of video for the title, which features Executive Producer Brian Miller taking us through the game’s Co-Op mode. Check it out below!

What do you think? Will you be picking this one up?

There have been plenty of names rumored to be attached to this project, and finally, it appears as though we’ve finally learned who will direct Disney and LucasFilm’s Star Wars: Episode VII.

Coincidentally enough, it turns out to be none other than one of the names that we listed for the five directors who should direct the next chapter in the franchise, which we posted on the day that the Disney news broke. According to The Wrap (as well as also being confirmed by Deadline), J.J. Abrams (Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness, Super 8) has signed on to direct Star Wars: Episode VII, which is currently slated to release in 2015.

Ben Affleck was reportedly also up for the gig at one point but it ended up going to Abrams in the end. Previously, Abrams had stated that he would likely watch the next Star Wars as a fan, but seemed uninterested in directing. It looks like the “lure of the force” was too strong and Abrams is now in control of the two largest sci-fi franchises of all time. Abrams is currently in post-production of Star Trek Into Darkness while Toy Story 3 writer Michael Ardnt is scripting away on the next chapter of Star Wars, which should hit theatres in just two short years.

After a fantastic first teaser and a gorgeous longer look just a week later, I didn’t think I could be more excited for Star Trek Into Darkness.

A few weeks have passed since the last exciting trailer, and today Paramount has treated us to a few stills. Each still looks absolutely wonderful, and every second that I look at them makes me more and more giddy to finally get to see this movie.

What do you think? Again, Star Trek Into Darkness flies into theatres on May 17th.

Alright! It’s an Unexpected Journey Into Darkness! My almost complete thoughts on ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”! Why 48 fps doesn’t bother me! Are there really pacing issues? What IS the Geek Movie Of The Year? Star Trek Into Darkness gets a new trailer and 9 minutes… but what does it mean!?! Getting into comics? What should you read? ‘Adventure Time’ gets an awesome game! PLUS! Jonathan opens the FINAL issue of Nintendo Power! The sadness!

Just 11 days ago we showed you the fantastic first teaser for the high much anticipated Star Trek Into Darkness. The action-packed preview ran just over a minute long, and a full length trailer was said to be releasing shortly afterwards.

That preview has just been released, and as everyone expected, it’s AWESOME. I can’t wait for more (and I’m disappointed I don’t live near an IMAX).

There’s been no word as to just who Alice Eve will be playing in Star Trek Into Darkness. That is until now. Frosty from Collider tweeted:

That would be Dr. Carol Marcus, as in James Kirk’s love interest and the Mother to his son David.  Marcus also was the creator of ‘Project Genesis’, which was responsible for bringing Spock back to life after he sacrificed his life to save the Enterprise from Khan in Star Trek 2. Could this be a possible plot spoiler? We’re going to have to wait and see.

Are you one of the Trekkies with your fingers crossed that the rumors that Klingons would appear in the J.J. Abrams Star Trek Into Darkness turned out to be true? Well, it appears that some new footage was screened today for a select few at the Bad Robot Avid Post Production Webinar, and it turns out the rumors have indeed turned out to be true.

Thanks to the clever folks over at TheFilmStage, the first full synopsis for the highly anticipated Star Trek Into Darkness has just been revealed! While the first footage from the film is set to premiere with The Hobbit in just a few weeks, we finally have an idea of what to expect! If you’re trying to avoid any potential spoilers, you’ll probably want to avert your eyes beyond this point (then again, why did you even click the link!).

In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness.

So Kirk & crew find themselves on a manhunt. Who could they be hunting for? Jonathan thinks he may have just cracked this mystery (and I absolutely believe he has)!

This is Benedict Cumberbatch. It’s widely known that he’ll be playing the villain in JJ Abrams’ second Star Trek film. His character however, remains nameless, and likely will for some time. I’ll warn you again, there are potential spoilers ahead, so if you’d prefer to be in the dark (pun intended), stop reading!

To find the probable identity of the Into Darkness baddie, we had to go back… way back. All the way back to 1966 in fact, to Star Trek season one, episode three. Check out the synopsis, and see if anything sticks out:

The starship USS Enterprise is on an exploratory mission to leave the galaxy. En route, the damaged ship’s recorder of the SS Valiant, an Earth spaceship lost 200 years earlier, is found. The record is incomplete, but it reveals that the Valiant had been swept from its path by a “magnetic space storm,” and that the crew had frantically searched for information about extra-sensory perception (ESP) in the ship’s library computer. The recording ends with the captain of the Valiant apparently giving a self-destruct order.

Kirk decides that they need to know what happened to the Valiant, and the Enterprise crosses the edge of the galaxy where it encounters a strange barrier which damages the ship’s systems and warp drive, forcing a retreat. At the same time, nine crewmembers are killed and both helmsman Mitchell and ship’s psychiatrist Dr. Elizabeth Dehner are knocked unconscious by the barrier’s effect. When he awakens, Mitchell’s eyes glow silver, and he begins to display remarkable psionics.

Mitchell becomes increasingly arrogant and hostile toward the rest of the crew, declaring that he has become godlike, enforcing his desires with fearsome displays of telepathic and telekinetic power. Science Officer Spock (Leonard Nimoy) comes to believe that Valiant crew members may have experienced the same phenomenon, and destroyed the ship to keep the power from spreading. He advises Kirk that Mitchell may have to be killed before his powers develop further, but Kirk angrily disagrees.

Alarmed that Mitchell may take over the Enterprise, Kirk decides to maroon him on an unmanned lithium-cracking facility on the remote planet of Delta Vega. Once there, the landing party tries to confine Mitchell, but his powers have become great. He goes on a rampage, kills navigator Lt. Lee Kelso and escapes, taking with him Dr. Dehner, who has now developed similar powers.

Kirk follows and appeals to Dr. Dehner’s humanity for help. Before Mitchell can kill Kirk, the doctor attacks and weakens him. Mitchell fatally injures Dehner, but before he can recover from the effort, Kirk uses a phaser rifle to create a rock slide, killing Mitchell.

Back on the Enterprise, Kirk makes a log entry that both Dehner and Mitchell gave their lives “in performance of duty,” rationalizing that they did not ask for what happened to them. Spock admits to feeling sympathy for Mitchell too, and Kirk comments that there is hope for him.

This paragraph from a certain character’s IMDB bio also sounds rather fitting:

Mitchell was briefly stunned by direct contact with the strange energies of the barrier, but he recovered quickly. As his recovery continued, however, he began to display a widening array of psionic abilities. These abilities, or perhaps the energy itself, began to fundamentally alter Mitchell’s personality: he became progressively more emotionally distant, cruel, ruthless, and convinced of his own magnificence. Worse, with the passage of time his abilities continued to grow stronger at a geometric rate. They were accompanied by only two physical manifestations: a curious silver light or glimmer that appeared in Mitchell’s eyes, and a later accelerated graying of his hair, beginning at the temples and sideburns.

John Dalberg-Acton once said “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” That’s the basis of Star Trek Into Darkness. Benedict Cumberbatch will play Lt. Cmdr. Gary Mitchell, who the Enterprise crew will be forced to hunt down after his newfound powers send him over to the dark side.

1966’s version of Gary Mitchell

Agree? Disagree? Let us know!

Well, it look’s like you’ll definitely want to get in line to see The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in theaters next month. Not only will you get to see the trailer for Man Of Steel but you’ll finally see some footage from Paramount Pictures & J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness. Yesterday, it was revealed that fans will be able to see the first nine minutes of footage from the sequel, if they see The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in IMAX 3D. And now, it’s been revealed that a full-length theatrical trailer will be attached to non-IMAX screenings.

“TrekMovie has exclusively learned from multiple trusted sources that the first trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness will premiere with screenings of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey on December 14th. To be clear this Trek trailer is a completely different thing than the 9-minute preview of the beginning of the new movie which will be shown at IMAX screenings of the Hobbit film.”.

Actress Heather Langenkamp, who you may know best as Nancy in the original Nightmare On Elm Street, has revealed that she will be appearing in J.J. Abrams highly anticipated sequel Star Trek: Into Darkness. The actress reveals that her part is small, but she worked on the film’s make-up effects with her husband.

“I had the opportunity to play a small part in Star Trek, so I’m looking forward to that. I can’t tell you anything about that, but that was a thrill for me. My husband and I worked on the makeup effects for Star Trek. He designed some of them, so that’s the thing we’re looking forward to most. Hopefully we’ll be working on something else in January. We don’t know what that will be yet, but hopefully it’ll be a really fun job.”

We’re still 7 months away from the release of JJ Abrams second Star Trek film, Star Trek Into Darkness, but it looks like you won’t have to wait quite that long to head back to the final frontier.

Bleeding Cool has revealed that a prequel comic titled Star Trek Countdown To Darkness will launch in January. The book will be a four issue mini-series that leads directly into the upcoming film.

Nothing is known about the plot at this point, but I’m sure we’ll get word of that soon!

The countdown to the motion picture event of 2013 begins here, in this blockbuster 4-issue prequel mini-series that sets the stage for the upcoming STAR TREK film! Like the best-selling STAR TREK: COUNTDOWN in 2009, this all-new series leads directly into the next movie, with a story by STAR TREK writer/producer Roberto Orci and Mike Johnson (STAR TREK ongoing series), and drawn by the original STAR TREK: COUNTDOWN artist, David Messina! STAR TREK 2013 PREQUEL is the can’t-miss lead-in to the new adventures of the Enterprise crew!

Will you be picking this one up? Are you looking forward to Star Trek Into Darkness?
