Late last night, Sony released an intriguing teaser to their YouTube channel, inviting all of us to see the future of Playstation in just a few weeks.

The internet (being the internet) immediately went wild with speculation that in just 20 days, the next iteration of the Playstation will be revealed. Rumours of the impeding launch however, have been running rampant for the better part of a year.

The Wall Street Journal has apparently confirmed with a reliable source that February 20th will indeed see the anticipated console’s revelation, and that the newest Playstation will be available for purchase before the year’s end.

Are you ready for a new Playstation? Do you believe that the Playstation 4 will be revealed in just a few weeks, or will Sony simply be showing this year’s lineup of AAA PS3 titles? What kind of features would you like to see available if a new console was announced?

Maybe we’ll get really lucky, and Sony will release a new version of Home.

Gamers occupy an amazing time, our passion is evolving from the waste of time that once was a game of pac-man, to giant franchises and opuses like Halo. Games are taking the next step.

The hyper stylized, wonderfully emotional and powerful MASTERPIECE of a game, Journey, has just been nominated for a Grammy! I can understand your amazement, “A GAME?! WIN A GRAMMY?!!?!?!”, what once was just a dream of musical producers of Jet Set Radio is now the possible future for Journey and the games composer Austin Wintory!

Journey is nominated for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media, and is up against some real Juggernauts. Tintin, The Artist, Dark Knight Rises, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and Hugo are all competing against this magnificent piece of art.

Some of you may be saying, “Whats Journey, and why should I care?”, well let me educate you.

Journey is a PSN downloadable game, where players take up the role of an anonymous and silent protagonist. There is NO dialogue at all in this game, and the entire narrative is up for interpretation to the player. The only kind of feedback you get is the incredible soundtrack that is programmed perfectly. The background music is constantly changing and reacting to what is happening on screen. Take a peak at my personal favorite level in the game to get an idea of what this is all about.

Lets cross our fingers and hopefully Journey will make musical history.

Today from a Konami Japan Press Release, it was announced that the Japanese Xbox 360 release of the MUCH anticipated Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, will not actually happen. The press release in English reads:

This time, we plan to release on February 21, 2013

Customers We have been looking forward to the launch in the Xbox360, to everyone of the persons concerned, and

You get all that? No reason WHY was given, but Konami has said that the US release of the 360 version will happen with no problems. This is a really peculiar happening, if we find out more we will keep you up to date.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance ships on both Xbox 360 and PS3 on February 21st (MY BIRTHDAY!) 2013.

One of the draws that made LittleBigPlanet so charming is the ability to download costumes for Sackboy and Sackgirl to dress them up as your favorite charaters, or just goofy attire. With literally hundreds of costumes available, playing dress up with the little sacks can end up being pretty expensive. Well, good news for you obsessive costume collectors, they won’t be confined to one game anymore.

Both upcoming titles in the franchise, LittleBigPlanet Vita and LittleBigPlanet Karting will support all costumes downloaded since the first game invaded our PS3s so many years ago. Or at least all of them will be available for them on Vita. Karting won’t support a small handful for some reason, including the popular Ezio outfit from Assassin’s Creed 2. Too bad, I was looking forward to stabbing people in the neck as I passed them on the track.

The ability to transfer won’t be available on day one as the team is still trying to properly integrate the past DLC into the new games, but it shouldn’t be too much longer after release.

LBP Vita is scheduled for a September 25th release, with Karting following suit on November 6th.

You read that right baby! Pyschonauts, the classic adventure game from Tim Schafer will be out for download on the PSN! From the PSBlog post:

Psychonauts was Double Fine‘s first game, and it came out for the PlayStation 2 way back in 2005. We love it a lot. It’s the story of a gifted young psychic cadet who must delve deep into dangerous minds and put a stop to a sinister conspiracy. And on August 28th, you will be able to download it to your PlayStation 3 as a PlayStation 2 Classic.

If you never played Psychonauts, you’re in for a treat! If you played it before, why not buy it again, just for old time’s sake? Ha ha! Tell a friend or two or a hundred.

This is pretty big fucking news, like on the same level as Pyschonauts being released on the steam network!

So fire up the PS3’s and whip out dem credit cards, August 28th baby!

The Alien franchise is very near and dear to many hearts in geekdom. Of course, the importance of canon, storytelling, characters, and mythology surrounding this universe goes without saying. One should only expect amazing video games based on the universe.

Enter Aliens: Colonial Marines. This FPS shooter, with Xeno-baddies vs. Marine combat, is sure to spark gamers’ interest. The concept sounds great. Squad-based combat set in dark, creepy environments filled with Aliens running around on walls, ceilings, vents, and who knows what else. Even better, players are allowed to be Aliens themselves. Unfortunately, SEGA may have much to work on before this title goes gold.

Honestly, I’m worried about this game. It seems that the excitement that’s down on paper didn’t translate very well into gameplay. I wanted to like this game, but it felt very generic in a universe that spawned so much inspiration. I wasn’t able to actually play as a Xenomorph, but I was able to view live gameplay of SEGA employees who were playing as them. I won’t criticize the player model movement, or even the graphics engine itself. What worries me is the level of expectation I, and I’m sure many fans have or had.

E3 2012 Off-Screen Gameplay Footage

Over the shoulder gameplay footage from Comic-Con 2012

Xenomorph attacks are class based into two classes. Also keep mind that different classes may arise as the year goes by. The attacks themselves were pretty standard. Claw, jump, run on walls and ceiling, and pouncing.

Playing as a Marine is what you’d expect. You’re able to aim down the sights, use secondary fire options, and heavy weapons. The sense of urgancy that’s clear from the films is absent, and instead, it feels like I’m just shooting aliens and not Xenomorphs. Yeah, it was cool fighting alongside other players, helping each other out whenever we got cornered, but it’s just not what I expected.

A prime example is the screenshot above. That screenshot alone makes me want to buy the game. Playing the game should be able to translate feeling too. With a solid four months of crunch time, there is still hope for Colonial Marines. With some tweaks here and there, perhaps the horror in the title will arise, and Aliens: Colonial Marines will be able to proudly represent the Alien Universe.

Aliens: Colonial Marines is hitting the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC February 2, 2013.

Yet another installment of the Resident Evil franchise is upon us. Die-hard fans of the series rejoice while others who aren’t too involved, like me, may ask what all the fuss is about. Story and gameplay is what matters most to me, and Resident Evil just happens to have three different campaigns. Sounds awesome, right?!

I was able to play two out of the three confirmed campaigns. I took on the roles of Jake and Chris in their own separate missions. Both campaigns have similarities in gameplay, but are different enough to differentiate one from another. Both characters also moved differently and had different fighting styles. At one point or another, the player is going to have to chose whether or not you want to conserve bullets and fight hand to hand, or in Chris’ case, blade to fist.

HUDs are different as well as weapons and enemies. Sizes of enemies and bosses will also vary depending on what campaign you’re playing. If you haven’t caught any of the trailers yet, you can view the Comic-Con 2012 and E3 2012 trailers below:

Anyone who thinks RE6 will be better when playing cooperatively is 100% correct. I personally can’t wait to bump the game up to the highest difficulty and play through each campaign.

As for who I enjoyed playing as more, I’d have to go with Chris. Having access to more weaponry and looking cool taking down foes with my shiny blade made for a good time. The beauty about this game is that different people with different play styles will like each campaign for their own reasons.

Resident Evil 6 is set for an October 2, 2012 release date.

Assassin’s Creed III

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the last few months, Assassin’s Creed III is using the American Revolution as backdrop for our newest adventure. Desmond will be making a return, and Ubisoft promises to make Desmond actually fun to play as. While it is a considerable leap from Ezio’s time period, Ubisoft did rule out the possibility of going back in time rather than the trend of going forward, meaning that another AC game could take place in between Ezio’s time period and the American Revolution.

I admit to being skeptical of this next installment of the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Being a fan of the franchise, I feared of a changing gameplay formula due to the drastic change in scenery. Not only that, but I was also skeptical of the game’s story. I was afraid of Conner, our new Assassin we’ll be taking control of, was only helping the Americans just because. I am pleased to report that Conner actually has a reason for helping the colonists. Still, it’s what you’d expect: Top British officials are Templars, and Conner will help the colonists earn their freedom from the Templars themselves.

Below, you’ll find a walkthrough of Boston, MA.

Assassin’s Creed III gameplay is not unlike its predecessors. Any veteran to the franchise should be able to pick up the game and get the hang of it fairly quickly. As someone who doesn’t delve too much into the multiplayer part of the franchise, it’s easy to forget the controls and tricks to avoiding death by assassination. Still, a quick refreshing match should allow to make a decision to keep playing or not.

The gametype I played was a form of conquest/domination while looking for enemy assassins. It’s amazingly fun for those who are good at it and can get quite frustrating for first time users. New game modes, new environments, and new weapons should keep the multiplayer fresh for veterans.

Assassins Creed III is shaping up to be another great addition and is set for an October 30th release.

Babel Rising casts you as an angry god set on destroying everyone and everything that is contributing to building a tower set to reach the heavens. Anyone familiar with the Tower of Babel story can already get the gist of this Xbox Live Arcade title. Still, is Babel Rising worthy of your attention?

Babel Rising is all about gameplay. If you’re looking for a dense story, you can stop reading now. The concept is simple: hurl stones, fireballs, ice, and gusts of wind at figures who are building a tower. The campaign consists of missions with objectives and is better served as a tutorial for leaning the four different set of powers you have. Each power set has a total of two types of attacks, basic and heavy. As you use your powers, a meter will fill up based on what power you use. Once one of the meters fills up, you will be able to use a special attack meant to deal a great amount of damage.

Your tools of destruction are Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water. None are similar and depending on what game mode you’re playing, you will have the option to choose what two sets you want with preference being an underlining reason for choosing.

Babel Rising has Kinect functionality which allows players to control the elements with their hands rather than a controller. While some might enjoy this Kinect functionality, I found that using a controller was overall more responsive to what I wanted to do and who I wanted to attack. The resulting conclusion will have you sitting on the couch while trying to drive up your high score.

Babel Rising offers up both multiplayer and cooperative modes. These multiplayer modes are not Xbox Live enabled. Babel Rising is a case of what you see is what you get. While it’s good to pass the time, there’s really nothing serious or “hardcore” about Babel Rising.

Babel Rising is available today on the PSN and XBLA for $9.99 and 800 Micorsoft Points respectively. Babel Rising will also be available on iOS devices, Android, and Windows PC.

When I think of batshit crazy games, I think of Suda 51, the madman behind such titles as Killer 7 and No More Heroes. When news arose that the designer was working on a new zombie hack and slash starring a cheerleader who bashed heads in while rainbows flew out of their bodies, why wouldn’t I want to play it?

Over at Warner Bros. Interactive’s booth, LolliPop Chainsaw was on display in all its glory. Traveling through the high school where the zombie outbreak starts off, controlling the smooth moving Juliet was a breeze. Divided between dodging, weaker pom pom attacks and stronger chainsaw attacks, combining these attacks were keys to taking out as many zombies as possible.

So far, the game wasn’t all just button mashing away until you win. Lining up stunned enemies and chopping them down with a single attack results in multi kill bonuses that earns more money for upgrades. While they weren’t in the demo, different enemy types and bosses are promising to be abound when the game releases on June 12th.

On top of hidden bonus zombies, unlockable costumes and combat that expands as you play, the final version of Lollipop Chainsaw is looking to be one of Suda’s best efforts yet. Enjoy these screenshots and look back for a full review later this week.

There’s been a lot of recent buzz and hype regarding Lucasart’s newest addition to the already long line Star Wars video games. Much of the buzz is being generated by the graphical power Star Wars: 1313 is showing off. Now, to better understand how much graphical power this game is giving, look it at this way:

The above screenshot is running off a pre-alpha build.  That’s right. The fine men and women hard are hard at work in the early production stages of Star Wars 1313.

Perhaps the most exciting piece of information released by LucasArts at E3 2012 was the list of departments working on this title. All departments of Lucasfilm have, or are going to have their hand in crafting 1313. Behind closed doors, I was able to see a short, but very sweet behind the scenes video featuring employees from Industrial Light & Magic, Skywalker Sound and Lucasfilm Animation Ltd. Their enthusiasm and talent make 1313 a stand out among past Star Wars video games. If there’s anything gamers should know coming out of the behind the closed doors presentation, it’s the creators’ mantra:

“We never want to see anything in a cutscene that we wouldn’t want to play.

1313 be a third person shooter of sorts, with some extreme platforming mixed in. Finding the perfect balance should deliver a great cinematic gaming experience.

For those of you who haven’t read up on it yet, 1313 puts you in the role of a bounty hunter who starts to unravel the inner-workings of the criminal underworld located on level 1313 of the planet Coruscant. The official press release is as follows:

Calling all Bounty Hunters!  Star Wars 1313 ™ is a brand new mature videogame franchise set in a never-before-seen world, the most dangerous place in the Star Wars ™ galaxy.  Level 1313 is a dark, vast subterranean metropolis beneath the surface of the planet Coruscant where the criminal underworld thrives.  A third person action adventure game, players will take on the role of a lethal bounty hunter navigating through this ruthless world in a high-octane thrill ride.

Star Wars 1313 will feature epic action adventure game play including exotic weaponry and gadgets that bounty hunters depend on for survival.  In addition, the game will feature a combination of agile cover-based combat, epic platforming and seamless playable cinematic game play.  Players will experience awe-inspiring and action-packed cinematic sequences, constantly staying engaged through the threat, pressure and tension of this criminal underworld.

In a fully integrated game development approach, LucasArts is bringing in top artistic and technical talent from all parts of the Lucasfilm organization, including Industrial Light & Magic, Skywalker Sound and Lucasfilm Animation Ltd.  Through shared tools and technologies while using the Unreal engine as a foundation, the teams are able to create a more emotional and visceral connection between the game and the player.  With cutting edge full body performance capture, high-end Hollywood visual effects techniques and leveraging Lucasfilm talent across the board, Star Wars 1313 promises to deliver a completely immersive experience set in a brand new mature Star Wars world.

The information contained in this fact sheet relates to a pre-release product that may be substantially modified before its first commercial release. Accordingly, the information may not accurately describe or reflect the product when it is first commercially released. This fact sheet is provided for informational purposes only, and Lucasfilm makes no warranties, express or implied, with respect to the fact sheet or the information contained in it.

It is unclear as to when exactly 1313 takes place in the Star Wars universe. One of the things I found most interesting about 1313 was the repeated use of the word franchise. It looks like we’ll be able to look forward to sequels. 1313‘s release date has not been announced. In fact, I was told that the character we’ve grown used to over the course of a couple of days is a placeholder. We’ll get an introduction as to who the character is, and hopefully soon.

Check out some more shots from the game:

From the same studio that brought you Uncharted comes a new take on the post-apocalyptic genre and an action-packed title. The Last of Us is brutal, beautiful, and driven by a combination of action and suspense.

Ideally, you’d have one badass friend alongside you to help you survive a post-apocalyptic world. In The Last of Us,  your sidekick is a teenage girl who is severely desensitized to the brutal behavior displayed by yourself and enemies.

The Last of Us is definitely one to look out for, and I will be doing just that starting tomorrow. Check out the gameplay trailer and some screenshots below!

The makers of Heavy Rain debuted a new title today, and it’s visually stunning to say the least. Beyond: Two Souls is set to explore what lies  past life and human existence as we know it. Staring Ellen Page (Inception) as the character lead, Beyond looks to be a promising title.

Below, you can find the the trailer and some awesome screenshots!

The adventures in Arkham City continue with Harley Quinn’s Revenge. If you haven’t played through Arkham City’s story already, be warned: Spoilers follow!

Harley Quinn’s Revenge starts not long after the events in the game’s standard story mode. With Joker dead, Harley Quinn has obviously lost and and vows to extract revenge on Batman. Surprising, right? The game starts with Robin as the protagonist. You play as Robin for roughly half of the DLC’s campaign, which, depending on your skill level, can last up to two hours. It is also important to note that the entire DLC story takes place in and around the Steel Mill.

Harley Quinn’s Revenge a simple story compared to the standard on-disc campaign. A group of GCPD cops have been kidnapped by Harley Quinn’s thugs, and have retreated into Joker’s old lair in Arkham City. Without spoiling the DLC’s story, I can say you’ll have few things to do other than the main mission objectives.

There are Harley Quinn balloons scattered around the mission area, but it’s hardly enough to get a gamer to replay the DLC for a reason other than simply wanting to experience it again.

Sadly, Harley Quinn’s Revenge just isn’t up to par with Rocksteady’s previous installments into their Batman franchise. It doesn’t really advance the overall story and is instead an event that can be played if you choose to do so. As someone who adores the past two Batman video game titles, I have to say it would be best if you waited until Harley Quinn’s Revenge went on sale.

Harley Quinn’s Revenge is available now for $10 on both Xbox Live and PSN.

There are racing games, and then there are EXTREME racing games! Or at least there were, but they have really gone out of style in recent years. Even kings of extreme like SSX have become more tame in more recent titles. But does that stop Mad Riders? No! This digitally released ATV racer has style to spare, with gorgeous visuals to boot. But is that enough to deserve a go around, or does this title stall at the gate?

Mad Riders features 40 plus tracks over about a half a dozen locales, all of which look fantastic in motion, (though I can’t say the same for the character models. The audience has a severe lack of faces.) By performing well in races, players will level up, unlocking new tricks, vehicles and outfits along the way. Like great arcade racers of the past, collecting special icons, racers can manually trigger boost charge stations, shortcuts and ramps… but not until you unlock the ability to do so. It feels really limiting in the beginning, since you literally can’t do anything but drive forward or boost when the game starts up, but as the game expands, that’s where it reaches its full potential.

Performing tricks throughout the races nets extra experience points while earning more boost power for extra speed. Plus, it gives you great practice for when other modes come into play. Some of the usual features include checkpoint races where racers have to hit certain spots to advance and trick contests where the racer with the most successful tricks throughout a lap wins. But Mad Riders has some lesser used ideas that make it speed ahead of the competition. Race modes like Perfectionist, where racers repeatedly complete the same lap for a set amount of time to earn the fastest single lap, are great to play. Especially with friends both locally and online.

For all of its modes, Mad Riders is pretty straightforward, which is probably its biggest flaw aside for the slow progression. Even with the large amount of tracks, many of them feel the same. The AI isn’t too difficult, so it won’t take too long to place 1st in every track the game has to offer. Not to mention that there’s nothing more puzzling than being warped to the back of a ramp because your back tires scraped the side of a rail, barrier or edge. Hey game, just because I was close to falling doesn’t mean I actually fell!

Complaints aside, Mad Riders was a pleasant surprise that took me back to a simpler times in gaming. Feeling like the closest thing we’ll ever get to a new Jet Moto, while this racer doesn’t do much to reinvent the wheel, (aside from a few great game modes,) it’s racing, online capabilities and trick systems are simple, yet effective. Plus, for only $10, you can’t go wrong with so many tracks and vehicle types, even if many of them feel similar. So if you’re an arcade racing fan, want a gorgeous HD racer or miss simple, classic style titles, should you download this title? Frankly, you’d be mad not to.

The extremely anticipated sequel to the most successful Transformers game ever, The Fall of Cybertron keeps the hype machine fueled. Featuring bigger and more expansive environments, FoC embarks players on new adventures that are built around their characters abilities and alternate forms. PLUS WE GET SOME DINOBOTS BABY!

Check out the gallery below for some tasty, tasty pics.

Kratos is back and bloodier than ever! The fine folks over at the Playstation blog have just released a trailer for God of War: Ascension, but be warned it’s a tad bloody…as if you expected anything less from Kratos.

Not much is known about the story or game play thus far, but on Monday, April 30th at 8am Pacific Time there will be a live streaming event on PlayStation.Blog and the official God of War: Ascension Facebook page that will give a glimpse of what’s in store for the game. I’m looking forward to this one so I’ll be keeping an eye out for more details when they are released.

Well, terrified is probably overstating it, but let’s just say I’m nervous.

Ever since Team Ninja revived the classic series on the Xbox in 2004, I’ve been on board with anything that has Ryu Hayabusa on the cover. When it came to action games, nothing would quench my bloodthirst better than the unforgiving, yet rewarding fights that gamers were guaranteed when they saw the words Ninja Gaiden on the box. But 2004 was a long time ago. Since then, head designer Tomonobu Itagaki left his team amidst a dispute with publisher Tecmo, Tecmo themselves have merged with Koei and as for the team itself, it’s had its share of hits, (like Dead or Alive Dimensions,) and misses, (the controversy surrounding Metroid: Other M comes to mind.) Last year at E3 when I saw the new Ninja Gaiden on display, I ran over to the open demo, anxious to see how one of my favorite franchises was moving forward. I booted up the game, selected hard mode, (of course!) and got down to cutting foo’s up.

But instead of being excited when I walked away, all I could think was, “what happened?”

I remember when a boss like this would be difficult.

What I played felt like a completely different game. So many key aspects that made the first two so great were gone. When I was trudging through the streets of whatever European town Ryu was in, I couldn’t help but be distracted by the lack of essence dropped by enemies, numerous “cinematic” action sequences that inturrupted the fast paced game play with almost every kill and Ryu’s red glowing arm that would activate an attack that instantly wiped out all the enemies on screen after a small amount of foes were slaughtered regularly. Wall running, a trademark of the series, was gone in place of really… slow… kunai… wall climbing. Oh, and half assed stealth sections were added where a mysterious fog would keep enemies from seeing you. I understand that they’re trying to make 3 stand out from the previous two, but all of these areas had no flow. It was like they were just slapped together for the sake of some kind of false variety.

My biggest fault with it though… was that I didn’t die. Not once. I beat all the enemies, climbed all the boring walls and took down a giant mech with hardly any effort. Remember, this was on hard in a game with a reputation for being challenging on easy. Knowing that I could just haphazardly run through the game without a care in the world, how is this Ninja Gaiden?

These soldiers just line up to die.

I’ve tried to stay away from reviews, and I’m about to boot up my GameFly copy to see how it turned out, but the fact that I’m even getting what was always a must buy franchise through GameFly is telling for me. If I wanted a button masher where I could just headbutt my controller through to the credits while half my game consists of quick time events, I’d play God of War. But if this is the direction Ninja Gaiden is heading in, I fear for it. I fear for Dead or Alive. And I fear for one of my favorite developers in Team Ninja. As I start this game up, I’m hope I’ll find that the fear is unfounded… but from what I’ve played so far, I’m afraid that it won’t be.

Street Fighter X Tekken is only a few days away and fighting game fans across the country are frothing at the mouth for the chance to play this new crossover. As we get our arcade sticks ready in anticipation, there are several new features and mechanics that haven’t been used in this type of fighter before. It’s never good to go into a fight unprepared, but we’ve got you covered. With these tips, you’ll be sure to have a leg up on the competition , or at least you’ll improve your chances of not getting beaten into a bloody heap.

Think Street Fighter IV meets Tekken Tag Tournament:

Seeing as this is the first of two crossovers featuring the two franchises, Capcom has taken the driver’s seat at the first round. It makes sense that this version would take after their most popular fighter at the moment and use similar graphics and mechanics. Some SFIV combos work when using characters from that fighter with plenty of differences to make them somewhat fresh while using the traditional six button layout. Whereas every character on the roster has enhanced “EX” versions of their special attacks after using a third of your super meter. The only real difference is that super moves are done with one quarter circle and three punches like Marvel vs Capcom rather than the Street Fighter style of double quarter circles with one punch or kick.

Poison Finally Makes her (?) 2D Fighter Debut!

But if this was exactly like SFIV, there would be no reason to buy it, (unless you REALLY want Tekken characters to use,) so naturally, Tekken’s mechanics come into play as well. Combos that juggle opponents are essential to victory, and the wall bounce animation from Tatsunoko vs Capcom and MVC3 returns to help chain moves together. Before you get too cocky, you’ll always want to make sure to watch your health, because like Tekken Tag, the round is over when your first fighter is KO’d. There’s no shame in switching!

The Tekken Characters Actually Work!

When the game was announced, I had my doubts on how well the Tekken characters would be adapted to the 2D world of Street Fighter. After playing the game, I’m happy to say that not only do they work, but they’re some of the most enjoyable characters on the roster. Sure, they took some liberties with how they play, (some characters like Jin have been given projectiles while all characters can jump ten feet in the air like the SF guys,) but for the most part, all of them keep their signature moves and combos while fitting in a 2D environment. So when you see a guy tearing it up with Julia and Kazuya, make sure you say hi to me.

Julia Promptly Preparing Ryu’s Anus.

The Art of Tagging Out

Tagging out in a 2 on 2 game is going to be important no matter how you look at it, so it’s fortunate that the game has numerous ways to do it. If you want to be a bore about it, pressing the mid punch and kick buttons uses a standard tag, but leaves your incoming character vulnerable. To make things way more interesting, by linking a combo with a double tap of the fierce or roundhouse buttons, the last hit will trigger a launcher tag, which will knock the opponent in the air and automatically switch to your partner so they can continue the juggle. Just make sure not to miss the launcher unless you want your fighter to stand there for a good second, (an eternity in a fighting game.)

If you want to deal the most damage while being a bit of a show off, the strongest way of utilizing your partner is through the double team supers or the cross rush technique that gives you control of both characters at once. With a quick quarter circle with the two middle attack buttons, the double team super, called cross arts, links together each of your fighter’s super moves for a huge amount of damage. If your opponent manages to survive, your second fighter will take over to finish the job. A backwards quarter circle with the two mid attack buttons activates cross rush, which lets you create combos that are otherwise impossible by having both of your fighters on screen at once for an all out assault. Be careful with this technique however, because both characters will be vulnerable to attack.

Talk About Double Teaming.

Infinity Gems

To give an aspect of customization to each team, players can equip up to three gems that give your team an attribute boost. Each one has various effects, such as boosting your power, increasing your defense or building your super meter. Some are automatically active where as others aren’t usable until certain conditions are met, like landing three punches for example. Some of these have drawbacks, such as the super meter boosting gem that reduces the amount of damage that your fighter deals in exchange for the increase. Keep in mind that buying the limited edition and preordering through certain retailers will nab you exclusive gems. I can’t say I’m happy about certain players having a statistical boost above those who buy the regular game or don’t preorder, so I can only hope that gems can be disabled in versus modes.

Opening Pandora’s Box

Just to get it out of the way, I can’t stand these new mechanics that help players come back from behind. To me, you should be able to win on your own and not need a crutch when you’re simply not the better fighter. With that said, if I had to choose one that I can tolerate the most, Pandora would be it. Unlike OTHER Vs. games, Pandora can only be activated when you have less than 25% health, but it sacrifices your active fighter. The character that remains receives infinite meter, a boost in power and a speed increase, but there’s a huge drawback. The Pandora user has a small amount of time to win, but if they don’t end it soon, they automatically lose. I was in a match where Hugo got me in his grapple attack for the win, but his Pandora meter ran out right before he landed the attack. Hugo collapsed and both characters were on the ground, but I was awarded the win. So if you’re going to activate it, be ready to go all out!

It’s All or Nothing!

So that about scratches the surface with Street Fighter X Tekken. If you were bored interested enough to read these tips, you’ll have more of a fighting chance. By building on the solid SFIV engine, throwing in the aspects of Tekken and creating options new to this version, fighting game players will have their hands full. How excited are you for its release this Tuesday? Let us know below!

Are you in LA this Thursday?  Do you like fighting games? If you don’t, do you like free food and drinks? Of course you do! Well you’re in luck, because Capcom is throwing a huge Street Fighter X Tekken party from 8PM to midnight on March 1st.

Gamers will get another chance to try out the upcoming fighting game before its release, using a tweaked Street Fighter IV engine to bring the two universes together in this huge crossover brawler. Featuring the best of the best from the the Tekken and Street Fighter rosters, we’ll finally be able to play out some of our potential dream matches. Ryu vs Kazuya? Guile vs Paul in the battle of Americans with screwed up hair? Or Zangief vs. Kuma in a bear vs bear wrestler match?

Come play the game, meet some people, check out the cosplayers and hang out. But make sure to register ahead of time, because space is limited to the first 1000 and ID is required since the event is 21 and over. If you haven’t done so, you can register here.

As you may or may not know, EA is planning on launching Mass Effect 3 copies into space starting tomorrow. Their journey can be tracked on their official website until it makes landfall. Rules regarding how to snag a copy before release will be posted soon. Until then, I’ll be working on my omniblade.

From the official website:

To celebrate Commander Shepard’s war to take Earth back, Mass Effect 3 will be the first console game launched into Earth’s upper atmosphere on a historic voyage. And you have a chance to take home a piece of that history.

Starting February 23rd, various cities across the globe will host their very own Space Edition launches. Starting with San Francisco, CA and ending in Berlin, Germany.

Track the packages on their flights and be the first to arrive at the landing zone to win an early copy of Mass Effect that has survived space travel. Each Space Edition also comes with an on-of-a-kind fan prize package. Other prizes will also be given out to runner-up participants (subject to availability).

Check back soon for rules and contest entry.

The launch dates are as follows:

San Francisco: February 23 – 7:00 AM & 10:00 AM

Las Vegas: February 24 – 7:00 AM & 9:00 AM

New York: February 25 – 7:00 AM & 9:00 AM

London: February 27 – TBD

Paris: February 28 – TBD

Berlin: February 29 – TBD

Can anyone help me calculate trajectories?
