Briefly: Yep, we just had our first look at Jon Bernthal’s Punisher a few hours ago (well, after we saw the back of his head back at NYCC), and now Netflix has debuted a batch of new stills from Daredevil‘s heavily anticipated second season.

The images feature our beloved trio, another, even better look at Punisher, and even a shot of the mysterious Elektra.

As much as I love pretty much everything with Netflix’ name on it, the second season of Daredevil is by far my most anticipated. It’s been far, far too many years since we’ve seen a close-to-decent Punisher performance onscreen, and Jon Bernthal’s intensity should lend itself well to the role.

For now, take a look at the new stills below, and be sure to let us know what you hope to see in the season! Daredevil‘s second season will hit Netflix sometime in 2016!

Briefly: Sure, we saw a split second shot of the back of his head back in the first teaser for Daredevil‘s second season back in October, but following our first look at Doctor Strange yesterday, EW has just given us our first real look at Jon Bernthal’s Punisher.

EW notes that Daredevil‘s upcoming season will bring with it a ‘faster pace, more romance, and some morally complex storytelling that introduces the controversial gun-touting super-antihero The Punisher.’

The article also reveals that, unlike the slow-burn beginning of Daredevil‘s first season, ‘season 2 opens with an action scene and very quickly introduces Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher. Co-showrunner Doug Petrie notes that “The advantage of any sequel is you can dive right in. We hit the ground running and then we ran as fast as we f—ing could.”

We can’t freaking wait. Head over to EW for more revelations from the first-look article, and be sure to let us know if you’re excited for Daredevil‘s return!

Oh, we also got a shot of Karen and Matt playing pool all flirty like:

Briefly: We’re all shaking uncontrollably at the fact that Marvel / Netflix’ Jessica Jones is finally just a couple of days away, and now Netflix has gone and debuted a new, barely-there teaser for next year’s second season of Daredevil.

It doesn’t feature any real footage (unlike the NYCC trailer), but instead looks to teaser all of our new favourite characters’ connections to Hell’s Kitchen.

It’s called ‘Pick Your Poison’, and simply shows off Foggy, Karen, and Matt’s favourite watering hole, Josies, before panning over to Luke’s, bar of choice for our new, damaged heroine Jessica Jones.

You can take a look at the teaser below, and be sure to let us know just how many episodes of Jessica Jones you’ll be watching this Friday!

Briefly: Just two more weeks to go.

After hearing nothing but positive buzz for Jessica Jones after its NYCC premiere last month, the long, long wait for the Netflix series to finally debut has been pretty excruciating.

The full trailer at the end of October didn’t help, and today Netflix debuted 20 gorgeous new stills for the series to keep you enticed until all 13 episodes of Jessica Jones‘ first season debut on November 20th. The stills are a mix of production and behind-the-scenes, but they all look freaking fabulous.

I’m so glad that I’ll have Fallout 4 to keep me entertained while I wait for the episodes to hit the celebrated streaming service (and to keep my occupied once I finish it until Daredevil‘s second season launches next year).

In any case, you can take a look at the stills below, and be sure to let us know just how excited you are for Jessica Jones!

Taking place after a tragic ending to her short-lived super hero stint, the new series follows Jessica Jones as she rebuilds her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.

Briefly: Finally, finally, finally, Netflix has debuted the first trailer for its upcoming Marvel series, Jessica Jones.
Sure, the teasers that we’ve seen so far have been cool as hell (and the key art that was released just a few days back would look gorgeous on any wall), but we really had no idea of the treat we were in for with this trailer.
We see Jones, we see Luke Cage, we see Kilgrave and more, and it does a fantastic job of setting a mysterious, desperate tone for the anticipated series.

Anyone else calling in sick to work on November 20th? I might just have to.

Don’t mind me, I’ll just be sitting here, watching this trailer on repeat. Take a look at the video below, and let us know what you think! The entire first season of Jessica Jones hits Netflix on November 20th.

“Taking place after a tragic ending to her short-lived super hero stint, the new series follows Jessica Jones as she rebuilds her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.”

Briefly: The coolest thing to come out of New York Comic-Con? Maybe, though it was also cool to hear that next month’s Jessica Jones is awesome.

The very first teaser for the yet-undated (well, 2016) second season of Marvel / Netflix’s Daredevil was shown off at the convention, and the 30 fantastic I-should-probably-rewatch-Daredevil seconds are now online to make you wish it was next year already.

The teaser shows Matt, Foggy, Karen, and Claire all looking fairly somber (probably about all the shit that happened at the end of Daredevil’s incredible first season), and also gives us our first beyond-brief look at Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, and Elodie Yung’s Elektra.

We cannot wait to see more footage. Take a look at this teaser below, and let us know what you hope to see in the next season!

Marvel has officially announced that Scott Glenn will reprise his role as ‘Stick’ when Marvel’s ‘Daredevil’ returns to Netflix in 2016 for season two. According to the announcement, Stick will return to the series to get Matt Murdock’s (Charlie Cox) help for a new mission. He is set to appear in three episodes in season 2.

The appearance of Stick in season 1 was definitely a highlight for me, the back story to Matt’s super training with Stick made his abilities seem plausible. I am riding such a high with all these Marvel – Netflix casting announcements. I really am more excited for these street leveled shows than the big budget Avenger films.

Stick

Superheroes are inherently champions for social justice. Those two words are unfortunately diluted and just by mentioning them hear I fear I may have lost half our audience. But if you are repulsed by those words then you are repulsed by equality, and I’m not sure if we can see eye to eye there.

At this year’s New York Comic-Con, WGN America are debuting Underground, a new thriller I’m so excited about. Set in the American south before the Jim Crow era, slavery is practiced as simply a way of life. Restless slave Noah organizes a small team to plan an escape from the Macon plantation that imprisons them, sparking the legendary exodus of American slaves to the free north. Not that life would get any better for them in yankee territory, but just for the chance to live and breathe as free people is a fight worth taking. The series, I’m told, has just wrapped production on its first season in Baton Rouge.

Creators Misha Green and Joe Pokaski have a heavy genre lineage, coming from Sons of AnarchyMarvel’s Daredevil, and Heroes. Joining them is Oscar-winner Akiva Goldsmith executive producing, the series is primed for a 2016 premiere on WGN America. Check out the robust cast:

Aldis Hodge ( Straight Outta ComptonTurn) as Noah, a restless slave on the Macon plantation who plans an escape.

Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Friday Night Lights, True Blood) as Rosalee, a shy house slave.

Christopher Meloni (Law & Order: SVU) as August Pullman, a secretive man who walks a tightrope between morality and survival.

Alano Miller (Jane the Virgin) as Cato, a cunning and charismatic man despised and feared by his fellow slaves.

Jessica de Gouw (Arrow) as Elizabeth Hawkes, a socialite who shares abolitionist ideals with her husband, John (Marc Blucas, Blue Bloods), a lawyer whose principles clash with the legislation he’s sworn to uphold.

Adina Porter (The 100The Newsroom) as Pearly Mae, a wife and mother and Mykelti Williamson (Justified) as her husband and preacher Moses.

Amirah Vann (Girls) as Ernestine, head house slave and devoted mother.

Johnny Ray Gill (Rectify) as Sam, Rosalee’s half-brother and a talented carpenter.

Chris Chalk (The Newsroom, Homeland, Gotham) as William Still, an abolitionist.

Reed Diamond (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) as Tom Macon, a plantation owner and political candidate.

Jussie Smollett (Empire), the IRL brother of Smollett-Bell in the cast as Josey, a wild-eyed runaway who doesn’t trust anyone.

Underground will be screened in Room 1A06 at 2:45pm and will be followed by a Q&A panel on Sunday of New York Comic-Con.

There’s a game I like to play when I watch movies, called “What Broke My Suspension of Disbelief?” Sometimes it’s something big, like a Jaeger bashing a Kaiju with an entire ship, and sometimes it’s small, like the fly on that dude’s forehead in Troll 2. And don’t even get me started on the cannibalism in Fried Green Tomatoes (because I’ll be discussing that in a future article). Whatever causes it, it’s always entertaining to look back on a movie, be it good or utter garbage, and contemplate that one scene where the people writing the script just asked too much of you, their devoted audience.

With the current wave of superhero movies being made in the past decade or so, few things are as ridiculous as forcing two complete strangers to fall in love as they are being shot at by lasers and buildings are falling down around them. As the title implies, this article is FULL OF SPOILERS, so don’t read it unless you’ve seen pretty much all of the MCU films as well as most of the other recent superhero movies. Or you don’t care about having romantic subplots discussed.

My wife and I finally got around to seeing Ant-Man at the theater this past weekend, and something has been bugging me (heh) ever since: that kiss. I’m obviously no Puritan when it comes to my movie tastes; I watch stuff like Wolfcop and Dr. Giggles for Horror Movie Night on a weekly basis, and I did just watch a bunch of guys in superhero costumes punch each other silly.

So why does this 20-second portion of Ant-Man stick out so much to me? As the title here states, it’s completely unnecessary to the film, and a bit unrealistic to have occurring after a week of Hope Pym beating the tar out of Scott Lang in the basement and staring daggers at him and Hank. It’s unrealistic in a movie about a guy who invents a shrinking suit and has the ability to control ants – that’s saying something. Part of me realizes that their kiss was shoehorned in for the comedic relief with grumpy Dad (and to set things in motion for Ant-Man 2), but the rest of me is having trouble letting go and enjoying the rest of the movie. If they had just given a subtle hint that they were going to hook up in the next movie, I would be here writing about how amazing, witty and just plain FUN the script is. But nope, they had to turn The Wasp into a Battle Babe.

“What’s a Battle Babe,” you say? I thought you’d never ask! Battle Babes are strong female characters who are introduced as valuable allies in the beginning of a movie, only to be relegated to love interests or damsels in distress by the third act. The most damning part of the phenomenon is that I can’t think of any film where a male character goes through the same devolution (probably because that would be emasculating, and the majority of people consuming superhero and action movies are male). Concrete examples will paint the picture best, I think.

LillyBar640

Hope Pym (Evangeline Lilly) in Ant-Man; as mentioned above, teaches Scott Lang to fight and control ants, helps coordinate the main heist and then pisses it all away by inexplicably falling for Scott Lang (who killed her old boyfriend Darren Cross just hours before). It’s like watching the Karate Kid lip-locking Mr. Miyagi for no reason after winning the All-Valley Karate Tournament.

"Marvel's Thor: The Dark World"..Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) ..Ph: Jay Maidment..© 2013 MVLFFLLC. TM & © 2013 Marvel. All Rights Reserved.

Dr. Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) in Thor; she starts the movie as a freaking ASTROPHYSICIST and is not once seen using that massive intellect in either the first or second film to do anything but get into situations that require her godly boyfriend. Sif (Jaimie Alexander) is an even worse case/better example, as she spends Thor and Thor II kicking ass from one end of the Bifrost to the other and is written as a Thor clinger. Luckily, she pops up in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. free of romantic BS.

RASPUTIN

Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) in Avengers: Age of Ultron. It was hinted that she and Cap had a bit of mutual attraction in The Winter Soldier, but luckily nothing came of it (thereby saving my favorite MCU movie from certain disaster). But as soon as the Avengers start partying in AoU, sparks fly between Natasha and Bruce Banner. It’s not even subtle, and sets up an interesting dramatic point about Natasha’s experiences as a child assassin, but forcing the relationship just to get there is an low point in an otherwise light summer blockbuster. It also dismantles most of the badassness Black Widow has cultivated in her preceding films. Once a lethal assassin, now just a lady without a baby…

3f9176e1ff65c93c683fd98be97c0571

Sgt. Rita Rose Vrataski (Emily Blunt) in Edge of Tomorrow. Sargeant. SARGEANT. That right there denotes that she’s pretty tough and can kill Mimics with the best of them. She realizes Cage (Tom Cruise) is looping after each death, and trains him accordingly, only for him to fall in love with her and keep trying to get her to safety each loop. Rita does go down fighting, but still qualifies for the title since she’s sexualized almost from the get-go and you know from the first minute Cage meets her, she’s going to be the love interest.

8

Evey (Natalie Portman, again!) in V for Vendetta. V spends half of the movie using her to help him kill his enemies, and then confesses his love for her before dying. I can’t believe how badly the Wachowskis screwed up Alan Moore’s original storyline by adding that. She was supposed to have been imprisoned and tortured by V to shape her into his successor, instead we got Lolita with Guy Fawkes masks.

un-wallpaper-del-film-elektra-con-un-primo-piano-di-jennifer-garner-elektra-186878897

Elektra (Jennifer Garner) in Daredevil and Elektra. While I realize that Elektra and Daredevil were an on-again-off-again couple in the comics, the films really played her up like a girl with a crush, particularly in the self-titled sequel. You’re supposedly the great martial arts “treasure” and more or less throw it all away at the end of Elektra to smooch the father of the girl you saved. Because every warrior woman is just wasting time until she can put down the katanas and start a family.

Even the pictures I found from each film portray these women as sexy and/or weak. It’s sort of creepy.

Now, those are some of the worst offenders in recent memory, but there ARE ways to do it without making me roll my eyes. Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) in Captain America and especially Agent Carter kicks so much ass and while she does have feelings for Cap, it never gets in the way of her busting skulls. She finds herself in peril but never waits for some dude to save the day; she’s a proactive heroine. Gamora (Zoe Saldana) in Guardians of the Galaxy is ALMOST a Battle Slut, and will likely become one in the sequel, but I think James Gunn did a great job poking fun at the trope a bit and didn’t leave her waiting to be rescued by Peter Quill.

Maybe my problem with Battle Babes and all the unnecessary romance in comic book movies is that, for me, unconsummated affection works better than forcing strangers to fall in love while evading death. That comic book movies seem to utilize Battle Babes most of the time, doesn’t make me love the genre any less, but their prevalence in a film is an easy barometer for me to tell how good the adaption is.

So, what do you think? Am I crazy? Are Battle Babes anachronistic? Leave a comment!

Post script: I just realized that Batman does kind of get the Battle Babe treatment (thanks to Talia’s betrayal) in The Dark Knight Rises. So there’s one.

Following yesterdays announcement that Elodie Yung has been cast as ‘Elektra Natchios’ in the second season of ‘Marvel’s Daredevil’. Marvel released a teaser image signaling her arrival to Hell’s Kitchen.

CJWAIh4UsAACqAD

According to Deadline, Elodie Yung (G.I. Joe: Retaliation), is set to play Elektra in Daredevil‘s second season.

It’s going to be very interesting to see the direction that the show is going with the addition of The Punisher, who will be portrayed by Jon Bernthal, and now Elodie Yung’s Electra. Season 2 of Daredevil has already started production, so it’ll be interesting to see if Elektra is a late addition to the season, or a cameo like Stick.

I really don’t remember her role in G.I. Joe: Retaliation and I’m not familiar with any of her other works, so I may have to check out some clips to see if she’s going to be a good fit. I’m just really more excited about the character Elektra being brought in. She was hinted at in season 1 by a throwaway comment from Foggy regarding Matt’s past girlfriends. So I’m sure we will see some flashbacks with them possibly sparring.

Briefly: Well this came out of nowhere.

Marvel has just announced that The Walking Dead and Fury actor Jon Bernthal has been cast as Frank Castle, and that he’ll first appear in next year’s second season of Daredevil.

Marvel states that “He is a vigilante who aims to clean up New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen by any means necessary, no matter how lethal the results.” The first season of Daredevil marked some of the most graphic TV that I can recall watching, and I can’t wait to see just how far they can turn things up with Punisher.

Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television stated that “Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences. Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”

I knew that Punisher rights reverted back to Marvel recently, but I certainly didn’t expect them to jump on the character like this. What do you think of Bernthal for role? Is there anyone else you’d rather have seen as Frank Castle?

Daredevil‘s second season hits Netflix in 2016.

Can’t really say I’m surprised about this one. The hugely popular Netflix original series, Daredevil , is getting greenlit for a second season.

After only 11 days from it’s premiere, Netflix saw the overwhelming success and decided to fund the next installment, with some crew changes. Doug Petrie (Buffy the Vampie Slayer) and Marco Ramirez (Sons of Anarchy) are now on board as LEAD showrunners with the project.

Rumor has it that production may start as early as July which moves it parallel with Luke Cage and ahead of Iron Fist and Defenders.

He got a job at Paramount after grad school because he wrote his doctoral thesis on the languages in ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’. Now a professor himself, he comes on Geekscape to talk about Daredevil, Batman V Superman, Star Trek, Doctor Who, Flash, Arrow and the latest news in the geek world. Marvel and Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ is a 13 episode masterpiece. From the incredible performances to the perfectly picked classic Daredevil moments from the past 40 years, it changes the game for comic book adaptations. But what did you miss? How is this going to shape things to come for the great Marvel Cinematic Universe? Luckily, Ian Kerner is here to help me make sense of what I argue is the greatest thing Marvel has produced yet!

Briefly: Daredevil is just around the corner, A.K.A. Jessica Jones is well into production, and today Marvel announced that Cheo Hodari Coker has joined Luke Cage as series’ showrunner, and also that the series will debut in 2016.

Cheo has produced popular shows like Ray Donovan and Southland, for which he also won the 2013 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Writing for a Dramatic Series.

Here’s the full release, straight from Marvel:

Netflix & Marvel Television announced today that Cheo Hodari Coker will serve as executive producer and showrunner of the anticipated series, “Marvel’s Luke Cage.” Coker is writing the first two episodes of the series that will premiere in 2016, everywhere that Netflix is available.

Most recently, Coker served as a co-executive producer on the second season of “Ray Donovan,” and prior to that was a supervising producer on the critically-acclaimed, fourth season of the drama “SouthLAnd.” Coker was a part of the “SouthLAnd” team that earned the show a 2012 Peabody Award. Coker also garnered a 2013 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Writing for a Dramatic Series for his work on that show. Coker’s feature film credits include Fox Searchlight’s rap biopic “Notorious.” He authored the book “Unbelievable: The Life, Death, and Afterlife of The Notorious B.I.G.” as well. Coker started his writing career in journalism and was a staff writer at the Los Angeles Times and contributed to VIBE, Rolling Stone, Essence, among other publications. He is a graduate of Stanford University.

It was previously announced that Mike Colter (“The Good Wife,” “American Horror Story: Coven”) will play the charismatic lead character, Luke Cage, in the series.

“Marvel’s Luke Cage” is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.

It was revealed back in December that Colter (pictured below) would play Luke Cage, who will first appear in this year’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones.

Briefly: Following yesterday’s fantastic full trailer, Marvel has revealed six of the supporting cast members for next month’s Daredevil.

Announced actors include Person of Interest‘s Rob Morgan as Turk Barrett, a smalltime criminal in Hell’s Kitchen, while Dexter‘s Matt Gerald will play Melvin Potter, a machinist caught between a rock and a hard place.

Under the Kingpin’s umbrella, we’ve got Falling Skies‘ Peter Shinkoda as Nobu, a Japanese businessman with an agenda all his own; Law and Order: SVU‘s Wai Ching Ho as Madame Gao, a powerful woman running her own trade, Camp‘s Nikolai Nikolaeff and Grimm‘s Gideon Emery as Vladimir and Anatoly, two Russian brothers looking to forge new names for themselves in America.

Marvel’s Head of TV Jeph Loeb says that “With an already tremendous cast, these six actors help to fully flesh out Matt Murdock’s world and give life to Hell’s Kitchen. We’ve been blessed to work with such amazing actors on this series to create a truly remarkable first season.”

Daredevil, of course, “follows the journey of Matt Murdock, who was blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, now fighting against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City.”

There is exactly one month left until Marvel’s Daredevil premieres on Netflix. As most of the world has finished House of Cards (except me) and working their way through The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (except me, again, guys my work commute sucks), Daredevil is creeping right around the corner. Like the real Daredevil. And now the full-length trailer is now online.

Unlike the previous teasers, this gives us the best look at the series overall to date. I was already stoked and prepared to binge on its premiere weekend, but now I wish the premiere could happen like right freaking now.

Of note is the location: Hell’s Kitchen. I work about a couple blocks away from Hell’s Kitchen, it’s about a twenty minute walk. Hell’s Kitchen today isn’t really a crime-ridden hell hole that it was until just maybe ten years ago. It’s interesting that in this Marvel Cinematic Universe, Hell’s Kitchen remains the dark place it used to be known for. Perhaps the Battle of New York in The Avengers drove the wealthy upper middle class away? I hope there’s at least some explanation.

A small reminder: Marvel’s Daredevil premieres the same weekend of Game of Thrones and will be at least week two into Mad Men‘s last leg. Prepare to watch TV all weekend.

Also, for funsies, compare this new series trailer with the one from the 2003 theatrical film. There’s no doubt that a decade plus change can highlight a change in cultural sensibilities, but it remains startling just how different the recent past is.

Marvel’s Daredevil premieres April 10th. I know you’re ready.

Briefly: Daredevil looks so damned good, doesn’t it? From the first images to the bad-ass first trailer, and now the just-released Matt Murdock character poster, it’s clear that were in for a treat when the Netflix / Marvel collaboration launches on April 10th.

“Marvel’s Daredevil” follows the journey of Matt Murdock, who was blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, now fighting against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City.

First, here’s the new poster in motion:

And here’s the still version for you to stare at:

DD

My body is ready, and April 10th can’t come soon enough! How excited are you for Daredevil‘s launch?

For starters, I want to acknowledge that yes, we already know that all Marvel television properties are a part of the blockbuster Marvel Cinematic Universe. You don’t need to tell us twice.

But a teaser image posted on the official Twitter account for Marvel’s Daredevil (set to premiere on Netflix this April) hints at a more direct connection than we would have expected.

Carl Creel is the Absorbing Man, who appeared in early season two of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., portrayed by Brian Patrick Wade. This is entirely speculation, but is Wade reprising his role? Or is his S.H.I.E.L.D. character the child of this Carl Creel, also played by Wade? Is it time travel? Just a coinky-dink? The crux of this is just who the hell is fighting poppa Daredevil.

My guess is the one that makes the most sense: it’s Carl Creel Sr. in that poster, because it’s an old poster. If it were new, it would be brandished with “Like us on Facebook” or some garbage. It has to be circa twenty years or a little less than the time period Daredevil actually takes place.

Which on that note, can we speculate why there’s hard crime in Hell’s Kitchen in 2015? The second wave of gentrification has changed Hell’s Kitchen, and it isn’t the dangerous neighborhood it was when the Daredevil comic books were first being published. I’m curious to see Daredevil almost entirely because of this: How different is the Marvel Universe’s New York to ours?

Daredevil premieres April 10 on Netflix, which is just two days before Game of Thrones. You are not going anywhere that weekend.

Briefly: Well, after that mysterious and enticing teaser trailer from yesterday morning, Marvel and Netflix has just debuted the full teaser trailer for Aprils Daredevil.

It’s way, way better than the Ant-Man trailer, and (as we knew long ago) it’s going to be 13-episodes of the man without fear goodness. Guess who’s not going to work today?

The production values here look high, I dig the way Charlie Cox presents himself as Matt Murdock, and I love seeing that Frank Miller inspired black suit in motion. It’s going to be very interesting to see how Marvel handles an actual superhero in a TV show, and I cannot wait for April 10th.

Take a look at the teaser below, and let us know what you think! Daredevil hits Netflix on April 10th.

“Marvel’s Daredevil” follows the journey of Matt Murdock, who was blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, now fighting against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City.

Briefly: Marvel and Netflix have just debuted a promising 15-second teaser for April’s 13-episode Daredevil series, noting that a full trailer for the series will premiere online tomorrow.

In the teaser, we get to hear Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock for the first time, and he’s sounding pretty stellar. Take a look at the teaser below, and check back tomorrow for the full trailer.

I feel like I’m looking forward to Daredevil and Marvel’s other Netflix projects more than any of the MCU films this year. What are your thoughts?

“Marvel’s Daredevil” follows the journey of Matt Murdock, who was blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, now fighting against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City.

From Comic Book Resources: Marvel’s Daredevil will premiere exclusively on Netflix on April 10, 2015. Starting at 12:01 AM Pacific time that day, all 13 one-hour episodes will be readily available. In a post-House of Cards era, we know the deal already.

In addition, Marvel Studios has released a neat little motion poster with a static version (seen below).

The showrunners have likened Daredevil to The Wire, which is a ballsy statement for sure. Hell’s Kitchen in 2015 is a different place than it was when Daredevil first fought crime there in the comic books, so it’s really fascinating to me how they’re trying to depict a gritty city corner in the larger, cosmic Marvel Universe. I for one am looking forward to this show just to see how they address this paradox.

Will you be watching? Wait, of course you are. Never mind.

Briefly: We got our first look at Charlie Cox as Marvel/Netflix’s Daredevil all the way back at NYCC, and this week EW gave us a new look at Matt Murdock in both lawyer and superhero forms.

EW also notes that Cox will don the classic red suit at some point during the series (now shut up, haters), but as we know, he’ll begin the story in the Frank Miller inspired duds.

Marvel’s TV Chief Jeph Loeb notes that “There aren’t going to be people flying through the sky; there are no magic hammers. We’ve always approached this as a crime drama first, superhero show second,” While showrunner Steven S. DeKnight adds “It’s a little grittier and edgier than Marvel has gone before, but we’re not looking to push it to extreme violence or gratuitous nudity.”

However things turn out, at this point we could not be more excited. Take a look at the two new images below, and let us know what you think. Daredevil will hit Netflix in 2015.

It looks like Lego Batman is getting his own movie and the season 5 premiere of The Walking Dead was great! Brett Weiss, the author of ‘The 100 Greatest Console Games 1977-1987’ calls in to talk retro gaming! And which X-Men character would be the biggest drug addict?

Briefly: Lots of good stuff coming out of NYCC today. We saw the first trailer for Sony’s Powersthe first few minutes of The Walking Dead premiere, and now we have a great look at Marvel’s new Daredevil.

It’s totally taking a note from Frank Miller’s The Man Without Fear, and that’s totally awesome.

“Marvel’s Daredevil” follows the journey of Matt Murdock, who was blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, now fighting against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City.

Marvel’s first original series on Netflix is Executive Produced by series Showrunner Steven S. DeKnight (“Spartacus,” “Buffy: The Vampire Slayer,” “Angel”) and Drew Goddard (“Cabin in the Woods,” “Lost,” “Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” in addition to writing the first two episodes of “Marvel’s Daredevil”), along with Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Smallville,” “Heroes”).

Briefly: Following the casting of Rosario Dawson less than a week ago, Marvel has just announced the next addition to Daredevil.

Here’s what Marvel had to say:

Marvel and Netflix are proud to announce that acclaimed actor Elden Henson has joined “Marvel’s Daredevil,” an all-new 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015.

With a diverse body of acclaimed work, including the “Hunger Games” and “Mighty Ducks” franchises, Elden Henson will play Foggy Nelson, Matt Murdock’s best friend and legal partner. In a town full of crime and corruption, Foggy’s friendship to the community and passion for improving it have made him a friend to its many residents from all walks of life.

Henson joins Charlie Cox (previously announced as Matt Murdock), Vincent D’Onofrio (previously announced as Wilson Fisk) and Rosario Dawson in the critically-lauded cast of “Marvel’s Daredevil.”

Marvel’s head of TV, Jeph Loeb stated that “Elden plays one of the most important characters in the world of ‘Marvel’s Daredevil,’ and we’re thrilled to see Foggy Nelson brought to life by such an incredibly talented actor. He perfectly captures the heart and soul of this series, bringing an added resonance to Matt Murdock’s fight against the injustice in their great city.

Are you happy with the casting choice? Is there anyone else you’d have rather seen in the role? Sound out below!
