I love Bob’s Burgers. I don’t know if it’s the puns, or the fact that I completely identify with Louise’s murderous rants and Tina’s awkward “uuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhh”s, but the show has me firmly in its grasp.

So what better way to celebrate National Cheeseburger Day (September 18th) then by releasing a limited edition, Tina Funko Pop figurine exclusively available from BoxLunch. BoxLunch, a “cause-driven pop culture gift store”, is donating a meal to those in need for every $10 spent in their stores and online.

Tina’s Funko Pop will retail for $12.90, and for each one sold, BoxLunch will be donating 10 meals to Feeding America, from now until February 27, 2018.

Need more Bob’s Burgers merch? There are shirts, pins, backpacks, and homegoods available too! Click here to see the full line of Bob’s Burgers merchandise available!

I want this soap dispenser and I can’t figure out why.

Not a fan of the show? Why did you click this article? That’s fine though, BoxLunch has merchandise from many different fandoms that still go out to help the hungry in America, so go take a look and let us know what you find!

PAX West just keeps giving and giving. We got an opportunity to meetup with Think Geek to check out some of their incredible products.

Think Geek and Musterbrand have joined forces and  premiered a Zelda: Breath of the Wild themed line of clothing, accessories, and home decor  at PAX West 2017. We got a chance to get a up close and personal look at the new line, and talk about a couple of my favorites.

I’m usually hesitant to make clothing purchases online without getting my hands on it in real life first. There are just so many things that can go wrong when buying clothes – the size could be wrong, the color isn’t true to what you saw on your screen, or, my biggest nightmare, the quality of the materials is inferior compared to what you expected. I’m also a bit of a snob when it comes to fabrics and knitted items, because my mother was a seamstress for most of my life and taught me how to look for quality in fashion. I also am a knitter/crocheter myself, and am very picky about knitted styles and textures. Shane would say the same thing, only because Rarity is is favorite pony.

I was happily surprised when I got to feel the textiles from the BOTW clothing line. Made of 100% cotton, the ponchos and hoodies on display were amazingly, buttery soft – they’d be perfect for wrapping yourself in at the office or at home this fall when things start to get a little more chilly. One was bright blue with a yellow Hylian crest on the back – the other is a fawn color, and was inspired by Link’s Hylian hood.

The two jackets on display, both a chocolately brown, had subtle details that tie them into the Zelda universe, so they could be worn pretty much anywhere without being ostentatious.

The first jacket, a short jacket with a front zipper, is 65% cotton 35% acrylic, and has detail stitching on the back of the Eye of the Sheikah in light blue thread on the back. The lining is tan, with a patterned print of the Traveler Shield.

The second jacket was a longer overcoat, with a bright blue lining, and the master sword stitched in blue on the back. It has a small interior zipper pocket for you to put your keys or other small items in to keep them safe. The coat also has nice heavy metal clasps you can use in addition to the zipper to keep out the cold.

I could totally see waterproofing both jackets and wearing them all fall and winter long here in the cold, wet, Pacific Northwest.

These items were just my favorites, for the full line of Zelda: Breath of the Wild items from Think Geek, click here and let us know what you think!

Shane, Taylor and I had the opportunity to meet with En Masse Entertainment and demo three of their titles.

We first got to test out TERA.  TERA isn’t a new game, however, En Masse has been working to move  TERA to console platforms. This brought a new set of challenges since combat, options and menu tress had to be reconfigured and mapped to a controller. We got to demo the XBOX ONE version; Taylor had never played  TERA before, but Shane and I both play online and are familiar with game play and story. Characters were pre-selected and geared for us, and we just happened to pick characters that fit our personalities.  Taylor was the DPS, a striker Porpori, Shane was a high elf sorcerer, and I played a human female lancer.

We were placed into a specific instance that the developers had created for us to enjoy. We were outside in a snowy area with a few BAM (Big Ass Monsters) to fight through. We were shown how the combo system worked, chaining different abilities together. Shane was familiar as he played the PC version with a Dualshock gamepad before.

We were given a few opportunities to get used to our characters moves, as we were led to fight a very strong beast at the end. The three of us were enjoying quite a difficult battle, but I got overzealous and died. Shane and Taylor pulled the boss too far from his patrol zone, and he reset! We were told he wasn’t supposed to be in that are to begin with, so his AI got confused. The demo for PAX was very specific so that players could get used to the new controls. After I spawned back in, we got the boss back down to 30% health and kept hammering it until it died!

The demo we played was very fun, and was a blast to get to check out early. There were some slowdown’s and draw distance issues, but these were all known to the team and they explained to us that they are going to be fixed. No specific details were given to specs. There aren’t any plans for PS4 Pro or XBOX ONE X support, but the game will benefit from faster hardware.

The change from playing on PC to playing with a controller wasn’t that hard at all (although I do have a hard time using controllers), and the game felt exactly like what I get when playing  TERA on my computer at home. The different ability bars were very fun, and pretty intuitive. Holding down the LB button would let you access the second set of spells. The menu’s were completely redone to support controllers better. Shane quickly found the emote wheel and started dancing the moment he got a chance.

The console crossover will go into the BETA phase in the next few months for both PS4 and XBOX ONE, with a full release sometime next year.  Servers for the respective platforms will still be separate, so no cross platform game play will be available.

Next we split up to test out the new side scrolling beat-em-up Closers, on PC. Shane and I got to wander through New Seoul and test out the game mechanics. Set in New Seoul after a futuristic war, Closers follows teens with amazing psychic abilities as they try to protect their home. While we didn’t get to experience much of the story due to demo limitations. The game is a 2.5Dbeat em up, with anime style characters. We started in a hub world, and our party would then set out on missions. Shane played a ranged character, and I played an up close brawler. We had to keep our combo count going, so there was an incentive us to play aggressive. Each character had a special “Closer” ability that would cancel the attacks of any enemy. Even big boss moves. If the animation started, we could run up and stop the attack all together and beat them down wit hour specials. Closers is going into alpha testing in September, and should be released before the end of the year.

A taste of what the combat looks like in ‘Closers” courtesy of En Masse entertainment.

Our final demo, Kritika, is a third person action RPG which is also already available to play on PC. We got a taste of the new instance that was just released as part of the Shattered Table update. This game felt a little more button mashy, trying to do as much damage while waiting for cool downs on abilities, but was still fun to play even with just two people in the instance. We each got to check out their latest character class, Psion, which is set to be released sometime in October. She was a cute, punk girl with a short skirt that reacted very well to the physics of her jumps. Shane was very intrigued (of course).

She’s definitely waifu material – but will she make Josh’s list?

That was our visit to the En Masse media suite. We were very grateful to be able to check out some of their new content. TERA for consoles is definitely going to be a day one pick up.

Loot Crate is partnering with Quantum Mechanix Inc. to launch a new Star Trek themed crate filled with high quality collectibles.

“QMx has been serving the Star Trek community for over a decade,” said QMx CEO Andy Gore. “In that time we’ve come to admire the diversity, creativity and passion of Star Trek fans. It’s why we wanted to build a crate full of collectibles for Star Trek fans.”

“The assortment of high-quality products as well as the exclusive subscriber opportunities will unite generations of Star Trek fans by celebrating iconic moments and characters from the entire franchise. Star Trek will always ‘long live and prosper’ and we are thrilled to be part of the journey.” said Chris Davis, CEO of Loot Crate.

The crate will ship bi-monthly and is priced at $39.99 per crate, or $35.99 per crate if you sign up for the year. Each crate contains over $65.00 in merch, including figures, ships, prop replicas, and clothes. The Star Trek Mission Crate is available for pre-order now, and is a must have for any true trekkie.

Uncle Kent 2 is now available to stream (free!) on Amazon Prime. Haven’t seen Uncle Kent? Apparently, you don’t need to in order to watch Uncle Kent 2.  The trailer doesn’t really reveal much in the way of a storyline – I watched the whole thing and was … confused about what I had just seen (and I’ve seen weird videos that Shane sends out).

The Indie film focuses on comic book artist Kent Osborne’s pilgrimage to San Diego Comic Con, where he “loses his mind and watches the end of the world”.

The movie follows Kent as he prepares to go to SDCC, haunted by weird post-apocalyptic dreams and earwigs from the 80’s. He even stops by our very own Geekscape booth (where you can see our own Jonathan London and more) on his way towards the end of the world! If you’re into weird indie comedies, this one’s worth the Amazon Prime purchase!

During San Diego Comic Con, I got to sit down with the Cole Egger (CEO), and Zac Cooner (COO) to talk about their new geek app, Cosmunity. Cosmunity, which came out in February, allows you to follow your fandoms, find friends and events interested in the same fandoms all from one focused, convenient app.

So why use Cosmunity instead of just joining Facebook groups?

“It really comes down to having a more focused platform, where there are no other distractions from your fandoms.” says Zac, “When you step into Cosmunity, you step into a new world entirely, whereas on Facebook groups, you’re still in Facebook so you’re gonna get baby photos, your grandma’s status updates, news about Donald Trump, and you don’t get that on Cosmunity. In Cosmunity you’re focused on fandoms.”

There are so many different communities you can join. If you don’t see yours you can still create your own!

It also gives you a degree of anonymity; we all have those people we meet and connect with at conventions, but we aren’t sure that we want them to be able to see EVERYTHING on our social media profiles. With Cosmunity, acquaintances can only see a limited amount of information that you provide, instead of being able to see all your family members, embarrassing photos and statuses from years ago.

But what about my close friends that I want to connect and share with on the app? Fear not, by early August, you should be able to find your friends within the Cosmunity app by sharing your contact lists, so you can all geek out together.

One thing that seemed particularly interesting was their promotional show.

“We’re starting a reality show called “Making the Con” where we capture the stories of all the individuals who come to the conventions, tapping into what drives them to be here.” said Zac, “Not just their times at the convention, but also leading up to the con, so all the blood sweat and tears that go into cosplay, budgeting to come, and what goes into. Cons are quite expensive, so there’s a lot of information that goes into coming.”

“One of the stories that I saw that I like, are all the SyFy buses branded with quotes, and one of them is “saved all year to sleep at Hall H”. And I think that is really representative of the community, and the time commitment that goes into “making the con” that some people don’t understand or pay attention to.” said Cole, “But there are so many unique stories and efforts that go into making conventions, not only SDCC but over 900 cons nation wide.”

You can share your tips and tricks for the best con experience on the app, by uploading links and content directly to your Cosmunity profile, and there are plans for integrating with other apps in the future.

Cosmunity also lets you look at local events in your area, so you can find a Dungeons and Dragons night at a local comic shop, or an anime fan club meetup, where you can meet and make new friends within your fandom community.

The focus on fandom communities also makes a perfect platform for fandom marketplaces, so vendors and artists can tout their wares directly to the fans who appreciate them the most.

Just click on “Listings” at the top of the screen in your fandom to see everything for sale.

“These are showcased within the particular fandom, so you don’t have to go searching for them on giant site of unrelated content.” said Cole. “It also benefits the vendors and artists because they don’t have to pay a fee in order to sell their products in that focused community platform, 100% of the money they make goes to the artists.”  Compare this to Etsy, which costs $0.20 to post an item and then a 3.5% transaction fee, PayPal which takes $0.30 plus 2.9% of the transaction, and eBay, which takes 10%, and it already becomes a great option for creators.

Download Cosmunity and let us know what you think of it in the comments below!

Josh and I were fortunate enough to get a chance to sit down with Hearthstone’s Production Director Jason Chayse at Blizzard’s Ice Cream Citadel during San Diego Comic Con last week. Josh is a newcomer to the popular digital card game, while Courtney is an avid Hearthstone fan and former World of Warcraft addict.

Death Knights distributing delicious cool treats in their air conditioned paradise. We may have loitered to take advantage of the A/C.

Courtney: I was confused about the new update when I first saw it, because it seemed like you could only get the expansion if you paid for it. But you can actually get the packs by playing like in the past?

Jason: Yeah so we’re actually changing the single player content. We’ve taken the best aspects of adventures and expansions and fused them into this sort of uber Hearthstone release.

So you’ll have a pack you can open, and on top of that there are going to be eight free missions, and there will be an introductory prologue, and once you defeat the introductory prologue everyone will be given a free Death Knight hero card, which will be a new card type we’ll be releasing.

There will be two more wings of missions after that, which will be free, and you’ll earn card packs by defeating those. At the very end you’ll fight the Lich King. This is also something new , he’ll play slightly differently depending on what class you play against him with. “Ok, so this is Rexxar, the hunter, so we’ll play this way against you, or Jaina the mage, so we’ll play this against you, and that’s the first time we’ve tried that too.

Courtney: That’s been the way I’ve defeated previous heroes in the past, realising that the would be weaker against a certain class.

Jason: Yeah! It should give you a run for your money.

Courtney: With Hearthstone, it’s obviously based on World of Warcraft, are you going to be introducing any of the other Blizzard franchises like Blizzard like Overwatch or Diablo?

Jason: You know, we feel like we have a lot of room still within the Warcraft universe to keep expanding with Hearthstone. There are no shortage of amazing characters or locations or stories we have left to tell. Every once in awhile you’ll see one of the other franchises bleed in, like there’s the Overwatch cardback, there are some Starcraft flavored card backs, but we want to do in it a way that will still feel like they can be part of the Warcraft universe.

Courtney: And there are going to be new boards? My favourite part is to click on the different little things while I’m waiting.

Jason: Our art team does an amazing job with those each time. They come up with amazing things you can trigger and discover. There will be a brand new Ice Rend flavored board that would be appropriate for the next release.

Josh: I literally just downloaded the game, so I don’t have as much time to play yet. Learning a new card game is overwhelming at the start, but everything seems so accessible, so easy to get into so, it’s easy to see why it’s resonated with so many people. You can either spend a lot of time with it and build huge card libraries or just play with friends for fun. And having that tie to Warcraft is great as well, because if you’re not ready to jump into a totally new card game but you have that familiarity with Warcraft, it helps ease the transition.

Jason: If there are particular characters you remember from your Warcraft days, you can go “Oh here’s Ragnaros doing his stuff, or here is a classic character, the heroes you know, like Thrall  Uther. But what you said about making it accessible to new players to get in, that was a big priority for us when we were first designing Hearthstone. We were always huge believers in collectable card games, and we play a ton of them going way  back when, and we felt the fun was  buried too deep for people who had never played them before, so that was our main goal. How do we take the fun parts that people love about collectable card games and make them a little easier to access so people could get in and start having fun in the first five minutes.

Josh: Now that you mention other card games, what other sources did you draw inspiration from?

Jason: From all of them. We had people who played Magic the Gathering and the other classic games but we  had people who played some digital ones that have been around , so we drew a lot of inspiration from all of them. So we thought about what we loved from the genre as a whole, and how we could hold onto that, and what we could improve on.

Josh: With the new inclusion of the Lich King, if you could chose any character from Warcraft that isn’t in the game yet, which would be the big addition you would want to make to Hearthstone?

Jason: That’s a good question. I think we’re always looking for ways to stay current with the new expansions that the World of Warcraft team is coming out with, and how that could be introduced in a meaningful way. We’ve added a lot of them, a good example is with the Whispers of the Old Gods expansion, there were some classic old gods, these beings from outer space, and we were really inspired by that, and had to figure out who these gods were and did a lot of design with the original World of Warcraft team to realise what these gods look like because they hadn’t been fully sketched out before. So who’s to say in the months to come who might show up.

Courtney: You just released the new Quest cards, are you looking to add new cards like that to help revamp old decks and make the game feel fun and new to those of us who have been playing for a while?

Jason: That’s always our goal. With each new set we want to introduce new cards, new mechanics that mix up the meta, and leads to new types of decks that you may not have seen before. One example with the new Knights of the Frozen Throne set, is a card called Prince Keleseth, it’s a 2 mana card for 2/2. But it has an interesting battlecry: if you have no cards in your deck that cost 2 mana, then all your minion cards are buffed by +1/+1. SO it’s an example of a build around card type.

Courtney:  THAT SOUNDS GREAT! I WANT THAT CARD!

The card that Courtney needs to get before her brother.

Jason: Yeah we’ve excited for it. So you look at it like, “Huh can I make a deck that doesn’t require any 2 mana cost cards? What if I try this? Or I try this combinations of cards?” The benefit can be pretty powerful to get +1 for everybody. The design team is always thinking of different build around ideas like that that push the meta and deck creation in new ways that haven’t been done before.

Courtney: You guys also came up with the potion creation cards, and I love those.

Jason: There’s another example that we’re going  to be introducing into the new set, the first time we’re introducing a new type of card called the Hero Card. You’ve been playing for a while so you know about Ragnaros, and Jaraxxus, which can replace your hero –

Courtney : A great death saving card!

Jason: Exactly. So this time, we;re going to introduce them for all classes. SO you can play Deathstalker Rexxar, and as soon as you play him from your hand he’ll fly up onto the board and corrupt and replace the  base Rexxar, and he’s an unholy , death knight version of rexxar. He’ll give you 5 additional armor, he’ll do 2 damage to all your opponents minions when he comes into play,  but his real power to play with him, which is like the potion thing you were talking about, his hero power replaces the bow which does 2 damage to the enemy hero, and instead becomes something called “build a beast”. So what it will do, is you choose it, and it will present it with 3 different beasts from the game, you select one, and it brings up the next set of cards (another 3 beasts) and it will stitch those two beasts into an uber beast, sort of Frankenstein style, sort of like with the potions only now you’re making a beast that can go on the board and fight on your behalf.

Courtney: Which is so cool because that’s something I remember seeing when  I played the Lich King expansion in World of Warcraft when it came out, all the corrupted constructs wandering around.

Jason: So you’ll get that with playing the heroes in the new set. There will be a ton of references, so in addition to the cards we have the missions we talked about. So the bosses will be Professor Putricide that people fought in IceCrown Citadel in the raid, Blood Queen Lana’thel which is a well known boss, they’ll all make their appearances in Hearthstone with similar types of mechanics and ideas translated into Hearthstone as well.

Courtney: I’m way excited for this now as well.

Jason: We’re really excited for it as well.

Courtney: One last thing I wanted to confirm. You said all the side adventures are free, so we don’t even have to pay in game gold this time?

Jason: Not even gold. You will have all the missions unlocked. But sort of like in the past on launch day you’ll have access to the prologue and then you have access to the first wing with a pack prize. Then the next week you’ll have access to another wing, then the final wing with the Lich King waiting at the end.

Courtney: I’m really excited for this new set now. I think I’m going to really start getting into the game again, since I took a break from it.

Jason: I think you’re going to love it. We’re also making some changes with Fireside Gatherings that we’re really excited about. We have this idea that the best way to experience Hearthstone is to play in person with other people who also love Hearthstone and play around a kitchen table or cafe bar, and play collectively as a group. We launched the program about 3 years about when Hearthstone itself came out, and it’s been growing dramatically since then have had about 10 thousand Fireside Gatherings across the world. But we’re about to do something within the game itself where it can detect if you’re playing within a Fireside Gathering, you’ll basically register that you’re playing in a real location, and it will recognise that you’re playing with your friends and you can customise your own tavern and name it, and it unlocks a new game mode called a fireside brawl that you can only access if you’re at a Fireside Gathering.

What do you guys think about the changes coming in the newest expansion? What are you most excited for? Let us know in the comments below!

Critical Role announced today at their San Diego Comic Con panel that they will be releasing a comic book that will reveal the origins of Vox Machina (you know, all the stuff that happened before they started streaming).

The comic is being written by Matt Colville, who was a writer for the video game Evolve. The special thing about the artist for this new comic, Olivia Sampson, is that she is a fan of the show, and her fanart stood out.

“We wanted to lift the community and give them the opportunities they deserve” Matt Merecer said.

The release date for the comic book is still up in the air, but “You should have something by the end of the year.” said Mercer.

Mercer also gave a little teaser abbout the next campaign saying that it will be set about 20 years after this campaign, and on a new continent.

“You mean we could go and meet ourselves!?” cried Laura Bailey, who literally could not even with the idea.

“There could be baby Trinkets! Tova, you have to come back.” she said to Noel Stevenson in the audience, who has guest starred on the show.

When VR first came out, I thought it was just a cheesy gimmick to suck more money from gamers. My first experience with VR, a roller coaster ride and ocean diving experience, while fun, didn’t justify the cost of getting a VR accessory.

Then I tried the Monkey King at SDCC.

Monkey King is a virtual reality experience (not interactive, but so beautiful and well thought out that it makes up for it). Created by Digital Domain, Monkey King is an immersive story experience that puts you in the Chinese folktale of Wukong the Monkey King. Each of the three, 8 minute long episodes gives you a 360° look into this version of the tale, and is so detailed, sometimes it’s hard to stay focused on following the main characters. You feel like you’re actually part of the story through the whole experience.

I was really drawn into the story of Wukong, which is a very popular legend in China. I had never heard of the tale before hearing from Digital Domain, and their VR experience is an amazingly beautiful way to be introduced tp the story.

This is Digital Domain’s first foray into a direct consumer experience, and as far as I’m concerned it’s a very successful one – like I’m considering getting PlayStation VR so I can watch the whole story, and any more that Digital Domain comes out with. The three part story will be available July 26th for PlayStation VR, and will be available in Mandrin and English.

What do you think of the Monkey King? Let us know in the comments below!

People always seem really surprised when I tell them I’ve never been to a convention. “Really?! But you’re such a nerd, I thought you’d be a pro!”.

My nerdness does include a lot of nerdy things, but they tend towards science geek and bookworm. I’ve been more inclined to save money to go explore places with history, aquariums and zoos rather than being a sardine in a building. Oh and that’s another thing, I hate crowds.

So why am I at San Diego Comic-Con? Because it makes me uncomfortable.  Because it’s forcing me to do something new. Because, scientifically, if i decide the result before trying the experiment, that’s not really science.

So what new scary things has Courtney faced since landing on Tuesday?

1. New people

I’ve never been to San Diego, and before planning this trip, I didn’t know anyone there. I’ve also never actually met any of the Geekscape crew (other than Shane) other than communicating online. Which totally ramped up my anxiety.

2. Crowds

I grew up in Alaska. We have like 10 square miles per person. If there are more than 3 people in an aisle at Fred Meyer’s, I get panicky and disoriented and end up leaving the store.

Comic con crowds are so much worse. Preview night was just a taste. I bumped into so many people and apologized so often I could give Derek a run for his money. Personal space doesn’t exist.

3. I have no idea what I’m doing

I like having lots of advanced planning and a rough idea of what I’m doing for a trip, and this one just seems like a black hole of unknowns.

4. My handicap

I have a chronic illness that causes a lot of pain and fatigue, which means I usually limit my physical activity. So walking around for 10 hours a day seems super daunting.

Despite all this, I came to Comic-Con. I’m working on overcoming all these crazy things that now seem kinda unimportant. Let’s see where the week takes me.

With a little less than two months until its premier, Netflix released another Death Note trailer today.

Unlike the trailer released in March, the new trailer gives us a better look at the story of Death Note for those of us who maybe less familiar with the anime. From what I could see in the trailer, Light (Nat Wolff) seems to be a lot different than the boy portrayed in the anime, with Ryuk (Willem Dafoe) prompting him to use the Death Note instead of Light jumping right in on his own and writing names. We also get to see and hear more of L (Keith Stanfield), in this trailer, and the conflict between him and Light. All in all, it will be interesting to see how Netflix’s interpretation will compare to the anime.

What did you think of the trailer? Are you ready for the premier August 25? Let us know in the comments below!

Stan Lee’s L.A. Comic Con celebrates its 7th anniversary this year, and it seems like just yesterday that we were setting up the Geekscape booth at their very first outing! It’s been amazing watching them grow over the years, and we’re very happy to be a part of it.

Now Stan Lee and company have taken another big leap forward as Entertainment Weekly has been named as their Official Media Partner. What does this mean for con lovers? If you’re fortunate enough to be able to attend Los Angeles’ largest pop culture convention, your 3 day pass will include a one year subscription to Entertainment Weekly magazine, on top of all of the panels, photo-ops and autograph opportunities with celebrities from your favorite fandoms (maybe even the godfather of comics himself!).

We’ve heard rumblings about some rumored unannounced guests and you’re going to want to get your passes now!

One day Stan and I will celebrate our birthday together.

The con runs October 27th-29th and passes are on sale now at stanleeslacomiccon.com, If you hurry, a 3-day pass is still only $70!

And for those who can’t attend the con (college, why you gotta get in the way of my nerdy dreams?), Entertainment Weekly will be covering convention news in their magazine as well as on their website. Announced guests at Stan Lee’s L.A. Comic Con this year include Stan Lee, Marc Silvestri, Camilla D’Errico, Terra Strong and Ming Chen… and it’s only going to get even bigger!

Lucasfilm announced today that Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are no longer directing the Han Solo Star Wars spin off. Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, said that while Lord and Miller were “talented filmmakers who have assembled an incredible cast and crew” that the directing duo and Lucasfilm had different visions.

The amazing part is that the film has been in production since February, and that there are still weeks left on the shoot as well as reshoots scheduled later this summer.

No hint yet on the who the new director(s) will be, but the release date of May 26, 2018, is still on.

Who would you pick to head this movie? Let us know in the comments below!

Fox has announced that it will be releasing the next installment in the X-Men series in November 2, 2018. Dark Phoenix will be directed by Simon Kinberg, who was a writer for X-Men: The Last Stand, and was a producer for X-Men: Apocalypse, and X-Men: Days of Future Past. This will be Kinberg’s first time in the director’s chair, so we’ll have to see what he does with this addition to the X-Men saga.

Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, and Kodi Smit-McPhee will all be returning for Dark Phoenix. Jessica Chastain, who has an impressive resume including  The Help, The Martian, and Zero Dark Thirty, is in talks to play Shi’ar Empress Lilandra, the main villainess.

Good lord how does she get dressed in the morning?

What do you think about the announcement for this latest X-Men film? Let us know in the comments below!

Adam West made more of an impact on my childhood than I realised. I think the first time I heard him on TV was in The Fairly Odd Parents where he played himself as a nutty old actor who played Cat Man (a nod to West’s role as Batman on TV in the ’60s). I didn’t realise that he had played the original Batman when I first watched the show, I just thought the animators were riffing on cheesy old TV shows. When I realised that his role on Batman also gave rise to Mermaidman and Barnacle Boy on Spongebob Squarepants, I started to look at who he was and realised that he was a really interesting and prolific actor, not just some silly old guy with a cool voice. West’s appearances on Family Guy are some of my favorite moments on the show, with his over the top crazy old guy routine. He reminded me a lot of my grandfather, who was about the same age, and also liked to do over the top things to get people to laugh, and had an amazing radio voice.

Mr. West passed away today at 88, after a battle with Leukemia. We will all miss his voice in our favourite shows.

The Black Panther peaked my interest in his debut in Captain America: Civil War,  and I am beyond excited for the Black Panther movie slated to come out next February. We got an unexpected look at the new poster for the movie this morning ahead of the release of the teaser trailer tonight.

Take a minute to savor that eye candy, we can wait.

Yes. Please. I’m not as familiar with the Marvel Universe as I could be, but I was instantly taken with Chadwick Boseman’s portrayal of the Black Panther; you could feel how close he was with his father, how much he cared about his country, his intense hatred for the Winter Soldier. This movie has a stunning cast (Lupita Nyong’o and Forest Whitaker to name a few!), and I can’t wait to see more about this movie tonight when the trailer drops (if you’re into sportsball, the trailer debuts at 6 PM PT during the NBA finals game).

What do you think about this poster? Let us know in the comments below!

Shortly after the discontinuation of the NES Classic, it’s now rumored that Nintendo will be releasing an SNES Mini before Christmas this year. The NES and SNES are apparently meant to be novelty items, not permanent (re)additions to the Nintendo console lineup.

If the NES was any indication of how popular this console could be, it’s a good idea to go out and get one right away to avoid missing out, or getting scalped on eBay.
We’re still waiting on an official announcement to hear what games will be available and what the price point will be. Regardless, the SNES Mini is on my Christmas wish list (I never got the chance to have one as a kid!).
What about you? Are you going to try to snag a SNES Mini to add to your collection?

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hasn’t even hit theatres yet , and James Gunn has already confirmed that he will be writing and directing Volume 3. In a Facebook post, Gunn said

In the end, my love for Rocket, Groot, Gamora, Star-Lord, Yondu, Mantis, Drax, and Nebula – and some of the other forthcoming heroes – goes deeper than you guys can possibly imagine, and I feel they have more adventures to go on and things to learn about themselves and the wonderful and sometimes terrifying universe we all inhabit. And, like in both Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, we will work on creating the story that goes beyond what you expect.”

The passion and dedication Gunn shows towards this project is why I believe the first movie did so well, and I’m excited to see how well Gunn lives up to the high expectations set forth by fans.

We also got a sneak peek at when the next Guardians installment will fit into the Marvel timeline:

“Much of what’s happened in the MCU for the past ten or so years has been leading, in a big way, to the Avengers’ Infinity War. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will happen after all that. It will conclude the story of this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and help catapult both old and new Marvel characters into the next ten years and beyond. I will be working side-by-side with Kevin Feige and the gang to help design where these stories go, and make sure the future of the Marvel Cosmic Universe is as special and authentic and magical as what we have created so far.”

More Marvel storylines? The next ten years? Yes please!
What are your thoughts on James Gunn continuing his take on Guardians of the Galaxy? Let us know!

Spider-man: Homecoming definitely looks like it’s going to be worth watching this summer.

I’ve been interested to see what Marvel was going to do with the Spiderman story after his cameo in Captain America: Civil War. The scenes with the young Spidey were hilarious as he switched between fangirling over the fact that he was SO CLOSE to the Avengers while simultaneously fighting them.

I’ve never seen a Spiderman movie that I actually liked. I always thought the Peter Parker they portrayed would be more likely to become a stalker or serial killer than a superhero. But Tom Holland comes across more as a cute, quirky, nerdy guy who just wants to become an Avenger. I also like the addition of Tony Stark (obviously played by Robert Downey Jr.) as a sort of surrogate uncle/mentor figure (although, I could just be happy to see RDJ on screen, and who can blame me?).
What do you think of this latest Spiderman reboot? Watch the trailer and tell us in the comments!

The hardest part of playing Dungeons and Dragons, especially when you’re first starting, is figuring how the rules work. The Player’s Handbook gives you the framework of the game, spells, character creation, but it’s hard to find exactly what you need quickly. If you’re the Dungeon Master, you have additional materials to consult as well, like the Monster Manual, loot tables, crit charts – the list goes on. Looking up information on the fly can be time consuming and slow the pace of play.

Up until now, there haven’t been any official electronic resources from Wizards of the Coast, although there are some decent 3rd party apps, as well as pirated (illegal) PDFs of the handbooks.

Last week, Wizards teased us with the release of D&D Beyond, which promises to be an in-depth, cohesive, digital resource of all things 5th edition D&D to be released in 3 Phases. Phase 1 of the beta was released today, and it is already more than I had hoped for.

Phase 1 has several sections: the compendium, spells, magic items, and monsters. The compendium includes the basic rules of the game; how to run the game, how combat works, how to do different ability checks and when each type is appropriate. The layout is easy to navigate and makes finding details quick and easy, without having to pause the game for long periods of time to find the rules as written.

Each section has clickable links that lead you to more detailed information. Organized and easy to use!

Spells, Magic Items, and Monsters all have extensive browsing and search abilities. For instance, you can look at spells based on class, or do a search with the filters and look for spells by name, school of magic, or casting time.

You can click on individual spells listed and get a general idea of what is required for each spell, and who can cast it. This is basically a digital spell card.

Magic Items can be browsed through by type of item (like a ring) or with the search function, by how rare an item is, or what abilities it gives the bearer.

The filters for searches are very details for each section. This shows exactly how far down you can drill to find an item to purchase or verify that a player is using their items within the rules as written.

Monsters can be filtered by regional type, class range, abilities or just by what kind of monster it is (like a fey or dragon).

I haven’t had the chance to use D&D Beyond at the table yet, but just by searching for some basic information while creating a campaign, I have high hopes for it’s usability. I definitely think that this will be a good tool for getting more people to start playing D&D, since the fat handbooks are intimidating when you first start, and finding information in them can be difficult.

I’m looking forward to seeing what else Wizards has in store for Phases 2 (character building and character sheets) and 3 ( Homebrew Integration and Campaign Management).

D&D Beyond is an open beta worth signing up for, whether you’re new to the game and just looking to start, or a seasoned adventurer.

Sign up here, and let us know if you like this new edition as much as I do!

I’m not really into action movies, for me, after a while, they all seem the same. The same stunts, the same explosions, the same bad jokes, the same plot.

The plot for Baby Driver seems a little simplistic. Quirky, young guy with a weird name (Baby?) has a gift for driving fast, gets involved with some criminals. He meets a girl, falls in love, despite the warnings of his criminal cohorts (Jamie Foxx tells him “You catch feelings, you catch a bullet.”). Boy and girl now have to find a way out so they can be together. Not necessarily a fresh story.
But Baby Driver has caught my interest. It could be because it has two of my favorite actors in the line-up (Kevin Spacey and Jon Hamm, mmm yes PLEASE!). Or it could be the film style, which seems much different than the classic action movie (to me, anyway). The shots seem to be more artistic, and sometimes remind me more of a Wes Anderson movie, then Fast and Furious.

Either way, I’m ready to go see this movie when it comes out later this summer in August.

Check out the trailer for yourself below, let us know what you think!

Blizzard delivered this morning with the reveal of their new hero, Orisa. The OP from 4chan was pretty accurate with their predictions for this character – she is a quadruped robot tank, functioning as a team anchor – although “Orisa” is way better than Anchora for a character name.

Orisa’s general look looks a lot like a centaur bot, but with a oxen look more than a horse look. Her voice line “your safety is my primary objective” reminds me a lot of Big Hero Six.

Orisa seems like a blend of Winston, and Zarya. She has a stationary shield that sounds a lot like Winston’s bubble, although it doesn’t protect you from attacks on all sides. Orisa’s cannon reminds me a lot of Zarya’s cannon, but with no reload, and she can also deploy a graviton charge that draws enemies into an explosion, slowing/stopping them in their tracks. Her Fortify lets her reduce damage taken and makes her impervious to anti-action effects, which could make her a great counter for Mei’s freeze ray.

From what I’ve been able to see from various game play videos, Orisa looks to be a hard hitter.I personally cannot wait to give her a shot in game, and see if she can help me diversify my go-to hero list (although Mei and D.Va can never be replaced in my heart!).

Orisa is available now in PTR – if you have access, give her a try and let us know what you think!

Hayao Miyazaki, known to many in the states as the Walt Disney of Japan, is coming out of retirement. Miyazaki has created some of the most memorable movies of my life, including My Neighbor Totoro, Porco Rosso, Spirited Away, and my all time favorite, Howl’s Moving Castle.

The vast amount of detail in Howl’s bedroom is amazing (Howl’s Moving Castle, 2004)

His movies not only have gripping stories, often with strong female leads, but also interesting supporting characters, and are beautiful to look at. The amount of detail and care that goes into every scene is amazing, and I would argue, better than many modern American cartoons and movies.
I was very sad when Miyazaki announced his official retirement in 2013, a few years after the release of Ponyo. The announcement today of his work on a feature length film is one of the most exciting things I’ve heard from the movie world this year, and hopefully more details about this new project will come out soon – until then, we’ll just have to be content with the vague date of before the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Switchmas is finally here, and one of the most exciting announcements from the Nintendo Switch Event was the concurrent release of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Shortly after the press conference ended, Nintendo posted not only a Collectors Edition, but also a Masters Edition of the much anticipated title on their website. The stand alone game will be $59.99.

The Collectors Edition, priced at $99, a Nintendo Switch Sheikah Slate Carrying Case, Sheikah Eye Collectible Coin, Relic of Hyrule: Calamity Ganon Tapestry and Weather-Worn Map, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Sound Selection CD.

The Masters Edition includes all that as well as a Master Sword of Resurrection figure, and will sell for $129.99.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will have amiibo compatibility with the Wolf Link amiibo from Twilight Princess HD (which will be re-issued as a stand alone February 3, 2017), the Zelda 30th Anniversary series amiibo. There will be new The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild amiibos, including one for Zelda and a Bokoblin, which will retail for $15.99 each, except for the larger Guardian amiibo, which will be $19.99.

Breath of the Wild promises to be an amazing experience, if you didn’t get to see the new trailer, take a look below!

Which version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will you be purchasing for your Switch? Let us know in the comments below!

The Geekscape staff have done a great job of covering so many different aspects of what we want out of the Switch, but what about tabletop applications?

I like to play games with friends in the same room, which means hauling your gear over for a LAN party (console or PC).The gear is heavy and cumbersome (I’ve almost broken my monitor on more than one occasion), everyone’s rig takes up a lot of room, and it’s hard to get everyone into the same room without overloading a power circuit. This is one of the reasons why I love playing tabletop games, especially Dungeons and Dragons, because you can have a large (read: more than 2 or 3) friends come over and play without having quite so much hassle.

What does that have to do with the Switch? Well, I’m hoping it could mean that there will be options for tabletop gamers to use the Switch to enhance their role playing for table tops. There are some great programs already available for PC, like TableTop Simulator, and Roll20, which allow you to have your player sheet, character avatar, maps, ambient sound and music, and roll your dice, all digitally. If these programs, or one like it, could run on the Switch, it would be like creating your own RPG with your friends, that you could see on TV in real time.

There are two ways that I think this would work. The first option option would be to have one Switch that would be controlled by the dungeon master would be able to show maps on the TV, control the character placement, and could also incorporate sound effects and music. The second option would be if every player and the dungeon master had their own Switch. The players would be able to access all their player sheet, have custom spell cards, and roll dice available on their individual tablets. The dungeon master would be able to control the map display and character placement. Currently in Roll20, dice rolls are shown in a chat on the side bar, as well as on the map, so that the whole group can see how good or bad your roll is.

This is a screenshot from Roll20, which operates in a browser. The turn order and character placement make playing live a lot easier.

Custom figurines are also really popular in Dungeons and Dragons, and could possibly cross over into an amiibo option that you could integrate with the Switch, so that as your character changes and levels up, you can level up your character in game.

I haven’t been able to find anything specifically related to tabletop gaming for the Switch, however, there are some options available already for the NVIDIA Shield, and Steam Machine, so it’s not a completely crazy idea for Nintendo to add this capability to the Switch.

Do you think tabletop gaming would marry well with the Switch? Let us know in the comments below!

30 years after Blade Runner was released, the trailer for its sequel, Blade Runner 2049 made its debut today. I’ve seen enough to avoid all future trailers. I’m sold.

With Ryan Gosling playing opposite a returning Harrison Ford, even those who are unfamiliar with the original should stand up and take notice. The trailer has a the same feeling as the 1982 original, with an updated feel, and promises to be every bit as good.  The only disappointment here so far, is that we have to wait until October 2017 for the movie’s release.  Check out the trailer for yourself below, and let us know what you think in the comments!

I have never enjoyed playing paladins. They always seem to fall into one of two categories: either they are rigid, sanctimonious killjoys, or air headed do-gooders, who are so syrupy-sweet, it makes you a little sick. I like characters with a dark side to them (I think it keeps things interesting), and even when I made a paladin and tried to make her different, she fell into the stereotype.

The new Unearthed Arcana offers a change from that status quo. While these paladins are probably still going to fall into a lawful alignment, they do create an interesting alternative for those with a craving for a new lawful evil. Wizards offers two new Oaths for paladins: Oath of Conquest and the Oath of Treachery.

The Oath of Conquest boils down to three simple words: might makes right. The tenets of this oath ensure that you not only conquer your enemies, you crush and subjugate them. At third level, you can Channel Divinity as a Conquering Strike to strike fear into your enemy for one minute, or a Guided Strike, which adds +10 to your attack roll. At higher levels, paladins under the Oath of Conquest earn additional spells and skills that help them strike fear and control their enemies (like Hold Person, and Blight) and increase the damage dealt to their enemies.

The Oath of Treachery is designed for egocentric paladins who are less concerned with bettering a cause, and more interested in doing what’s best for themselves. It’s a great tool for when your paladin has had enough of being following the status quo, and has forsaken their Oath. Channel Divinity with this oath, and you can Conjure Duplicate  to create an exact copy of yourself to confuse your enemy, or Poison Strike which adds 2d10+ your level poison damage (20 + your level on a roll with advantage). Higher level perks give you the ability to have advantage against enemies in groups, Treacherous Strike, which lets you attack as a reaction on a missed attack by an enemy, and at level 15, invisibility.  Oath of Treachery would be an interesting multi-class with a rogue assassin, and cause some serious damage.

Wizards of the Coast has again given us some amazing new options for character creation, and in my opinion, flushed out the paladin class to be more interesting.

What do you think? Do these new oaths make you more inclined to play a paladin? Let us know!

Wizards of the Coast has been releasing new content for 5 edition Dungeons & Dragons left and right the last few months. The biggest changes I’ve been happy to see were the changes and additions to the various classes you can play in 5th edition. These tweaks for existing classes help to balance some classes, and add more options for merging your character’s backstory with their playstyle.

You lookin at me? YOU LOOKIN AT ME?
You lookin at me? YOU LOOKIN AT ME?

Take, for instance, the new Divine Domains for Clerics. The original information in the Player’s Handbook includes seven different Divine Domains (Life, Light, Tempest, Nature, Trickery, and War), with accompanying gods and ideals. Each domain gives the cleric spells and abilities related to the domain, and helps shape the background and story of the character, as well as their holy symbol. For instance, a Cleric in the Tempest domain may be associated with Zeus, and would have the ability to cast spells associated with the weather, and use Channel Divinity to deal maximum damage with a storm spell instead of rolling.

The Unearthed Arcana, released November 21st, announced three additional domains for clerics to choose from – Forge, Grave, and Protection.

The Forge Domain gives players skills and spells associated with smithing (like searing smite, wall of fire, elemental weapon), and clerics can use their ability to Channel Divinity to create simple items starting at level 2. A Forge Cleric also gets increased AC (armor class) and resistance to damage and fire damage at higher levels, making it a great option for a tank.

The Grave Domain is reminiscent of necromancy. Clerics in the Grave domain have spells that allow them to raise the dead, deal necrotic damage and detect the dead. They also have the ability to cast spare the dying as a bonus action at first level, and turn a critical hit by an enemy into a normal hit (once per rest), preventing your party from taking as much damage.

Protection Domain gives clerics spells that allow them to increase party defenses with shield spells, and giving enemies disadvantage on attack rolls. At 6th level, you also gain the ability to heal yourself when you heal an ally. Protection Clerics have the ability to be deal out a lot of damage, and help the party block damage and resist damage. This would be great for a small group, who might be squishy or not have a dedicated healer.

Ten domains seem like a lot of choice to have when creating a character, however, considering how diverse some pantheons can be, the wide variety of choice when creating a cleric and deciding their religious path gives the player more tailored options.

For details on all three new domains, click here.

What do you think of these additions to the Cleric class? Are there too many options to choose from? Let us know in the comments below!

Three months after the release of Nights of Karazhan, Blizzard announced the newest expansion for Hearthstone today at BlizzCon 2016. The Mean Streets of Gadgetzan, has a fun, 1930’s gangster feel, and plenty of shady characters to help your hero mete out some damage.

Meant to give you a gritty, big city feel, Gadgetzan is run by 3 different crime factions, each supported by 3 hero classes. The Grimy Goons: arms dealers with their classic mobster pinstripes  supported by the hunter, paladin, and warrior. The Kabal, fringe casters who have been corrupted with dark mana, more reminiscent of classic villainous casters, are in the potion trade, and are backed by mage, priest and warlock heroes. Last, but not least, we have the Jade Lotus faction, heavily inspired by Pandaria, filled with assassins hungry for gold and jade, with the rogue, shaman, and druid heroes filling their ranks.

The developers also revealed some exciting new card features. If you want to wait until the expansion is released at the beginning of December, stop here! But do keep an eye out for teasers leading up to the release in the next couple weeks.

SPOILERS

msg-2

There are two big changes in card types coming with this expansion.

The first are tri-class cards. Each faction is associated with 3 different hero classes, and with that come a tri-class card that allows you to choose a card from one of the 3 classes associated with your faction. For instance, if you are playing a mage, you would be able to choose a mage, priest, or warlock card to put into your hand. Every faction’s card has a different mana cost and minion associated with it, but seem balanced across the board.

The second exciting reveal comes with the Kabal Leader card, Kazukus, which allows you to create your own spell. First you discover the cost of the new spell, either 1, 5, or 10 mana, then choose two powers, like deal 6 damage to all minions, and summon 3 minions that died this game. This card promises to be a lot of fun and offer a lot of choices for players within the game!

Even though I haven’t spent any money on Hearthstone, preferring to acquire expansions with in-game gold, The Mean Streets of Gadgetzan has me rearranging my budget for a pre-order.

How many of you are going to pre-order? What new cards are you excited for? Let us know in the comments below!
