Blizzard delivered this morning with the reveal of their new hero, Orisa. The OP from 4chan was pretty accurate with their predictions for this character – she is a quadruped robot tank, functioning as a team anchor – although “Orisa” is way better than Anchora for a character name.

Orisa’s general look looks a lot like a centaur bot, but with a oxen look more than a horse look. Her voice line “your safety is my primary objective” reminds me a lot of Big Hero Six.

Orisa seems like a blend of Winston, and Zarya. She has a stationary shield that sounds a lot like Winston’s bubble, although it doesn’t protect you from attacks on all sides. Orisa’s cannon reminds me a lot of Zarya’s cannon, but with no reload, and she can also deploy a graviton charge that draws enemies into an explosion, slowing/stopping them in their tracks. Her Fortify lets her reduce damage taken and makes her impervious to anti-action effects, which could make her a great counter for Mei’s freeze ray.

From what I’ve been able to see from various game play videos, Orisa looks to be a hard hitter.I personally cannot wait to give her a shot in game, and see if she can help me diversify my go-to hero list (although Mei and D.Va can never be replaced in my heart!).

Orisa is available now in PTR – if you have access, give her a try and let us know what you think!

2016 has been a productive and successful year for Overwatch. Even though it’s only been out for seven months, Overwatch has revolutionized gaming. The Overwatch team at Blizzard has shown (and continues to show) dedication and passion for their creation. This love for the game has translated into the players and as a result created a supportive community. As the game continues to grow, it is questioned whether or not Overwatch can keep up with the momentum. Can Blizzard continue to build on an already Game of the Year? Here’s what Blizzard says to expect  in 2017:

In early 2017, Overwatch will be getting a new map called Oasis. Oasis is a control map equipped with jump pads for more versatile attacks. Blizzard also made it so the environment can kill you; they included moving cars!

There will be new season events, which means more skins!!! We have already experienced the awesomeness of the Summer Games, Halloween, and Holiday events, but this is just the beginning. We are getting more seasonal events but be aware that they are not all traditional; we may be getting something that we aren’t expecting.

Blizzard will also be working on new upgrades for the command wheel. These upgrades will allow the player to customize their command wheel. They will be able to add up to 4 voice lines, 4 emotes, and 4 sprays.

Another upgrade will be to the team chat. Players want other players to be on team chat because teamwork is an important element to winning games. So Blizzard will have a button that’ll encourage players to join team chat. Personally, I am not sure how they will implement this function or if it would work, but I am excited to see what they come up with.

Overwatch will be also getting new heroes, maps, and game modes. Unfortunately there isn’t any information on what types of new heroes and maps at the moment. One game mode Blizzard plans to expand on is custom games. They want to add a server browser that will help players find other players’ custom matches. This will be useful because you won’t have to wait for you friends to get online for you to enjoy a game with no rules.

Knowing Blizzard’s plan of action for 2017 has made me confident in their abilities and excited to what is to come. Hopefully theses additions will make an already Game of the Year a Game of the Generation.

If you’re new to this series, think Sim City, but in space. Anno 2205 is the sixth installment of the franchise and will allow players to venture to the moon. From the official release:

In Anno 2205 players will join mankind’s next step into the future, with the promise of building a better tomorrow by expanding into space. Players must develop rich metropolises on Earth that are capable of launching missions to the moon as they race to establish production colonies on the lunar surface. By mining the Moon’s resources to send back down to Earth, Anno 2205 players will receive the benefits of technological advancements and the tools to help expand their cities and transform them into thriving metropolises.

The new Anno 2205 Engine paves the way for players to build cities on islands five times the size of those in previous Anno games. It also allows for a high level of graphical detail in the game, so players can immerse themselves in futuristic cities that come to life with flying cars, more than a million thriving citizens, churning factories, and grinding mines. Gameplay uses a revolutionary session mode that lets players control several sessions on Earth and on the Moon simultaneously, and connects multiple regions via different sessions.

“We’re proud to take players beyond the realms of planet earth with the biggest Anno game ever,” said Benedikt Grindel, studio manager at Blue Byte. “The development team has been working hard to ensure we are integrating fresh and innovative new content, whilst remaining faithful to the roots of the Anno franchise.”

Fans should know that you will be able to build cities up to five times larger than any previous installment of the Anno series. Gamers will also be able utilize a new session mode that will let you control several sessions on Earth, as well as the Mon simultaneously.

Fans can pre-order the game now for access to a closed beta that will arrive closer to launch. Anno 2205 is set to release November 3, 2015.

Evolve is a game that doesn’t come around too often. It’s a game that requires team-based tactics, and, well, the desire to be an actual monster. The premise is simple: a team of four vs. one giant monster.

evolvekraken

Each member of the team has their own unique tactical abilities that aid the team in either battle or locating the monster. Before each round, the player who takes the role of monster has a slight head start in order to feed on other wild animals that roam the map. The size of these wild animals vary, each presenting percentage needed for the monster to “evolve.” Once evolved, the monster will be able to level up abilities and change appearance. The only catch is, once you start evolution, you become extremely vulnerable.

To start, players who choose to be hunters will have to choose one class out of the four available options. The first, Assault, is exactly what it sounds like. Armed with weapons that deal out heavy damage, the Assault class should be the ones to deal out the most damage. No matter what variation of Assault class you choose, each comes equipped with two weapons, two explosives, a personal shield.

The second class comes in the form of a Trapper. In the round I played, the Trapper had a pet that would continually track the monster. This pet was more of a beast and would also participate in battle, at one time even reviving a downed teammate. The Trapper is armed with Harpoon Traps that will stick out of the ground and hook onto monsters until they destroy them. This weapon is extremely useful for slowing a monster down or even escaping a lost battle. More on that later.

Next, we have the Medic. This class is perhaps the most important of all as they will be the key to your team’s survival. Because of this, don’t be surprised if the monster should target the Medic first. Of course, being the Medic requires that you take on the responsibility of reviving a downed teammate as fast as you can. Your efficiency is key to your team’s success. Because of this, it is important that you get a grasp on what the Medic’s abilities are, otherwise you’ll find yourself pressing every button the controller trying to revive someone in a moment of panic.

Finally, we have the Support class. In the demo, I immediately went straight for this class only because I wanted to be Bucket, a drone that is usually tasked with piloting his human comrades. Bucket was armed with sentry guns and a UAV device that allows the player to track the monster so that it will appear on all teammates HUDs. By no means should the Support class be the first one into battle. If anything, this member should hang back and help set up a perimeter using their sentry bots. Doing so effectively will, in a way, overwhelm the monster and perhaps shift its focus onto your bots, rather than your team.

In my first round as a Kraken, I had an amazingly fun time. At the start of the round, I was able to level up a couple of abilities to start with. Of course, I went after a health upgrade and the Vortex, which was more akin to force-push for you Star Wars fans out there. I began my time as a Kraken hunting prey so that I could consume them in an effort to evolve quickly. Even as a monster, you must be wary of what prey you choose. Should you choose a bigger beast to fight, it may be more than you can handle.

evolvekraken1

Being a Kraken is just as fun as it sounds. Fighting a Kraken is just as difficult it sounds, too. I’m sure after the round I played, opponents of mine might have used a word other than “difficult.” During the match, I quickly found out that I had much more fun engaging the enemies in short bouts, rather than head one. This created a sense of unpredictability and forced the hunters to come to me on my terms. I was able to set traps, lay mines, and even lead an Assault-class hunter straight to a larger AI beast roaming the map.

evolvekraken4

After killing all but one member of the hunters, I had about a minute and a half to kill the last remaining opponent. Should the timer run out, the entire team would respawn. Unsurprisingly, the last hunter left the battle and decided to engage in a game of hide ‘n seek. With only ten seconds remaining, I decided to feed on one last prey so that I could evolve and be ready for the next wave. Unfortunately for the hunters, their last teammember was killed by another beast roaming the map, with only seven seconds left on the clock.

Evolve is shaping up to be a game to get on launch day. If I were you, I’d start getting a group of friends together in preparation. Evolve hits store shelves October 21!
