It was only yesterday that we received the first official poster for the upcoming release of Jurassic Park 3D. If that wasn’t exciting enough (for me, it was), Universal today released a trailer for the 3D remaster.

Of course, it’s nothing that we haven’t seen before (time and time again), but the simple fact that Jurassic Park is coming back to theatres is enough to make me giddy. I was just three years old when the film officially released, so I’ve never had the opportunity to see it on the big screen.

Are you excited for this one? Or does that fact that it’s a 3D conversion turn you off of it?

Looks like Brett Ratner is set to take on another comic book property. Let’s just hope that this one turns out better than his last attempt!

MGM and Paramount announced today that Ratner has signed on the direct Hercules: The Thracian World, an adaptation of the Radical Studios original graphic novel by Steve Moore and Admira Wijaya. The script has been adapted by newcomer Ryan Condal.

Being that the film isn’t set to start production until 2013, not a whole lot is known about it. Dwayne Johnson of course will play the herculean hero, and at this time the film has no other stars attached.

It’s been a rather good year for Radical Studios, as production just wrapped on a film adaptation of their popular property Oblivion. Oblivion has some major stars attached, including Tom Cruise, Andrea Riseborough, Olga Kurylenko, Morgan Freeman, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Melissa Leo.

Are you excited to see Dwayne step into this role? Are you excited that Ratner is taking it on? Is Kevin Sorbo the only real Herc?

Yep, when Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel hits on June 14th, you’ll have the choice to see it in 2D, 3D, and IMAX! Is this exciting news? Or will the simple fact that a 3D version exists ruin the experience for you?

Check out the press release below!

BURBANK, CA, November 7, 2012 – Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that director Zack Snyder’s upcoming action adventure “Man of Steel” will be presented in 3D in select theaters, as well as in 2D and IMAX®, so fans of the iconic superhero will be able to experience the much-anticipated movie in their format of choice.

Snyder stated, “The film is going to be a visually exciting experience in all formats: 2D, 3D and IMAX. Anticipating how audiences today embrace 3D, we designed and photographed the movie in a way that would allow ‘Man of Steel’ to captivate those movie goers, while respecting fans who prefer a more traditional cinematic experience. We’ve taken great measures to ensure the film and the story come first, and 3D is meant as an enhancement.”

The film stars Henry Cavill in the role of Superman/Clark Kent, alongside three-time Oscar® nominee Amy Adams (“The Fighter”), Oscar® nominee Michael Shannon (“Revolutionary Road”), Academy Award® winner Kevin Costner (“Dances with Wolves”), Oscar® nominee Diane Lane (“Unfaithful”), Oscar® nominee Laurence Fishburne (“What’s Love Got to Do with It”), Antje Traue, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni, Harry Lennix, Michael Kelly, Richard Shiff, and Academy Award® winner Russell Crowe (“Gladiator”).

Warner Bros. Pictures presents, in association with Legendary Pictures, a Syncopy Production, a Zack Snyder Film, “Man of Steel.” The film is slated for release on June 14, 2013 and will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Love it or hate it, 3D is here to stay. It also tends to make a pretty insane amount of money! When it’s good, it tends to be very good (and vice versa of course).

Pixar has had pretty major success in bringing its older titles to the 3rd dimension (CG films tend to mean an easier conversion). James Cameron also did a phenomenal job converting 1997’s Titanic. Now it’s Spielberg’s turn, and in just five months his beloved Jurassic Park will hit theatres once more.

We haven’t heard much about this one (despite the fact that it’s happening), but today the teaser poster was made available online for your viewing pleasure. Look’s like it won’t be long before we see even more, as a trailer is set to be released tomorrow!

I’m looking forward to the rerelease! I thought that Titanic 3D was a stellar experience, and certainly hope that Jurassic Park looks similar! The film will hit theatres on April 5th, 2013.

Nintendo again took to the internet this morning, livestreaming Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata unboxing his own Wii U, and giving us even more details about the fast approaching console.

Iwata (naturally) chose to pick up the sexy black premium Wii U package (let us know which one you’ll be gettting!). Aside from the console and gamepad, you’ll also get an HDMI cable, and a nice charging stand for the tablet style controller as well as one for the console itself. His edition also included a beta code for the next Dragon Quest title (though I can’t verify if that will be included in North America).

I am so envious of this man.

He went on to explain that each Wii U console will support 12 separate user accounts (finally!). Each user will have individual console settings and game saves, as well as bookmarks and play history. Multiplayer progress will also be synced across appropriate accounts. This is freaking exciting, I hated the lack of this on the Wii!

Even more awesome details would be revealed before the end of the broadcast: you’ll be able to pause your gameplay and jump right into a web browser on the GamePad (hopefully for something like Geekscape or Gamefaqs, and not for an adult video fix). The gamepad can of course act as a universal remote as well, and should allow you to control all of your media peripherals. As previously demonstrated, you’ll be able to send content from the gamepad screen to the television screen to share it with others in the room.

I am unbelievably excited for this controller.

Another piece of fantastic news: it appears as though Friend Codes are no more! Instead you’ll get a much less clunky (though still pretty clunky sounding) Nintendo Network ID, which should be usable between multiple Nintendo consoles, and even smartphones and web browsers. It certainly sounds interesting and I can’t wait to try it out myself.

Seriously Friend Codes, burn in hell.

I’ve saved the best for last: this one is going to rock you to your very core. Karaoke is coming to the Wii U. KARAOKE! A standalone microphone peripheral will be available at some point in the future. Karaoke will be a subscription service and cost about $25 for a 90 day pass. A subscription will grant you access to the entire catalog of songs, which is an interesting (and fantastic in my opinion) way of doing things. This has only been announced for Japan at this point, but hopefully it will make its way to North America!

The Wii U launches in just 11 days. Will you be getting one?

You can also watch the unboxing for yourself if you’re so inclined! Check it out below! It’s an awesome watch and reveals even more small tidbits!

Well it’s about time. The newest Die Hard chapter is just a few months away, and until today, we’ve really had no idea what A Good Day to Die Hard is about.

MovieHole today learned just what we’d all been wondering: what the hell is John McClane up to?

The plot, as we have all learned, featured McClane traveling to Russia to be with his son. So what’s going on with his son? What I’m being told is the son of John McClane, Jack, (played by Jai Courtney) is in fact an undercover CIA Operative. Cringe if you will, but this is slightly hinted at in the first teaser trailer released in September where Bruce Willis’ McClane says the line ” The 007 0f Plainfield, New Jersey.” This is referring to where the McClane / Gennaro family originally hail from, the city of Plainfield, NJ and McClane Jr being a secret agent, ala Bond 007.

CIA Agent Jack McClane meets his estranged father, the reluctant hero that is John McClane, in Moscow and who is apparently completely unaware how super-trained an agent his son actually is. Jack is so highly trained, that he’s deep undercover with Russian heavies who have their hands on some nukes, but once his cover is blown, both the younger and older McClanes are left with no alternative than to fend off Russian mobsters aplenty in unfamiliar territory.

So there it is! I know that so far the trailers for the film have left people feeling underwhelmed. Does this change things? In any case, are you looking forward to the film?

A Good Day to Die Hard romantically lands in theatres on February 14th, 2013.

A preview of Thursday’s release of the World War Z trailer is now online thanks to the folks at Entertainment Tonight.

Based on the Max Brooks novel of the same name, World War Z pits Brad Pitt vs zombies in a desperate attempt to stop the terrifying pandemic before it’s too late!

Check out the footage below, and let us know what you think! World War Z opens on June 21!

Honestly, the zombies look a little ridiculous to me. Why do they all seem to move so fast? Why do they look like they’re travelling in packs? Hopefully the film looks a little more polished by the time it releases!

Are you looking forward to the adaptation? What did you think of the novel? Speaking of the undead, have you checked out our Doc of the Dead Kickstarter?

Well I had no idea this was happening so soon. Machinima today released a new trailer for the upcoming Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome. They also announced that the miniseries would premiere on their YouTube channel THIS FRIDAY!

I was a huge fan of the 2004 Battlestar series (well, on and off in the later seasons), and I was very excited at the prospect of seeing William Adama fight in the first Cylon war.

Syfy of course passed on a series after seeing the pilot, but will air it in its entirety after it concludes on Machinima. However it turns out, I’m excited to get back into this world, even if it’s only for a short time.

Again, the first chapter of Blood and Chrome will hit Machinima this Friday! Are you planning to check it out?

Welcome to Walking Dead Weekly! As the title implies, each week (bearing a new episode of course), we’ll be taking a look at the latest episode of the AMC series. I’ll let you know how I felt about each weekly offering, and will also compare it to what Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard were doing with the comic at the same time.

Last week ignored the prison altogether and caught us up with the lonesome duo of Michonne and Andrea. The episode introduced us to the “safe haven” of Woodbury, reintroduced the less popular Dixon brother Merle, and gave us our first look at David Morrissey expertly portraying the evil fuck that is The Governor. The episode was my favourite of the entire series, and I absolutely couldn’t wait to see what followed.

Let’s get right down to business! As always, you’ll see plenty of spoilers below! You’ve been warned!

Episode Thoughts – ‘Killer Within’

Holy Fucking Shit. I finished watching Killer Within just moments ago, and it’s nearly impossible to think of any other words to describe what I just witnessed. I know that I made this statement just last week, and I don’t mean to sound like a broken record, but tonight we got the best episode of The Walking Dead ever. It may just be nerves, but that may have been one of the most intense 40 minutes of television that I’ve ever witnessed. Can you tell where I’m going with this?

Killer Within takes us back to the venerable prison, and as the episode opens we get a glimpse of someone (who appears to be wearing an inmate uniform) breaking a prison gate and allowing walkers into the area.

An unlocked gate means walkers are free to roam.

The survivors are beginning to make the prison yard their own: clearing bodies and planning ways to utilize the space while Glenn and Maggie have fun in the guard tower. Hershel is also looking quite spry for a man who appeared to be dead just two episodes ago: at one point in the episode, he’ll even don crutches and make his way outside. The two remaining inmates come and ask to be allowed into the group, and out of the cell block where they’ve seen the bodies of so many dead friends. Rick refuses, and instead of staying in their block the inmates decide that they’d rather leave altogether.

These guys do seem different than the other inmates.

Things then shift to Michonne and Andrea in Woodbury. Andrea seems to be getting more and more keen on staying in the town, while Michonne trusts the area and The Governor less and less (any why wouldn’t she after finding their new army vehicle riddled with bullet holes and fresh blood). Andrea shares information about Hershel’s farm with Merle, who wants to go find clues of his brother’s whereabouts. Governor quickly shuts the idea down, but states that if Merle can get more concrete information, Governor will accompany Merle himself.

Can zombies use guns now? Or is The Governor just fucking evil?

Back at the prison, just as Axel and Oscar are about to be set free, droves of walkers begin to surround our survivors. Just when you think things couldn’t possibly get any worse, the prison’s sirens start blaring, which is sure to attract any stragglers in the area. There are simply too many walkers to comfortably handle, so the group is forced to break into small chunks to have any chance of escaping. Carol and T-Dog find themselves in walker-filled corridors, and unfortunately, T-Dog spends his last breaths ensuring that Carol can safely make it out of harms way. This entire sequence is insanely intense, paced wonderfully, and of course looks just as great as The Walking Dead always does. I was already in love with this episode before finding out what would occur next.

Of course they kill him off, right when he gets some damn lines!

Rick, Daryl, Glenn, and the surviving inmates rush to turn off the generator, fearful that it may be used to open the main gates. When the group makes it to the generator room, they also find the one who caused all this madness: the inmate that Rick left for dead in the season’s second episode, Andrew, ready for revenge. Ironically enough, it’s inmate Oscar (who Rick of course hasn’t trusted up to this point) that saves Rick’s life and kills the bastard. When Oscar then flips the gun and offers the handle to Rick, you know this character’s going to be around for quite awhile.

Andrew deserves worse…

The final quarter of the episode is more emotional and gut wrenching than absolutely everything the series has given us to this point. The stress and fear from the events that have just transpired have forced Lori into labour, and of course there’s nobody with medical experience around to help. It’s simply Carl, Maggie, and Lori in a boiler room, and Lori leaves it up to Maggie to deliver the child. Again, just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse, they get so much fucking worse. Lori needs a caesarian section which they all know she won’t make it through, and all they’ve got is a dirty knife (not even any fucking anaesthetic). The scene is a heartbreaking introduction to a new baby girl, and to top things off, Carl gives himself the duty of making sure his mom doesn’t turn.

A life gained, a life lost.

I already felt tears welling up at this point in the episode, and this wasn’t even half as heartbreaking as it would get. After things calm down: walkers are taken care of, sirens are off, the surviving members head back to the yard. Rick spots Maggie holding the new baby girl, and upon asking “where is she?” immediately realizes what happened, and breaks down like we’ve never seen before. An absolutely tearjerking and heartbreaking end to a character, a relationship, and an episode. Of course only moments before the walkers found their way onscreen, Lori and Rick shared a loving smile, an almost wordless confirmation stating “we’re going to get through this, we’re going to be okay”. Now they’ll never get the chance.

Lori radiates love in the last smile she’ll ever give Rick.

Again, Killer Within was phenomenal. Even now I’m thinking about it, and I’m sure I will be long into the next chapter. At the opening of the third season, I wasn’t sure if we were setting ourselves up for disappointment after a fantastic opening, but now a quarter way through the year I’m pretty certain we’ve got a winner on our hands.

As usual, during the credits we got a peek at what to expect next week, and while I’m sure it can’t possibly match what we saw tonight, it doesn’t look like things are about to calm down either. Check out the preview for Say the Word below, and as always, let us know what you thought of this week’s offering!

Comic Comparison

Of course, the most pressing event to compare with Killer Within is the life and death of Lori Grimes. Both the relationship between Lori and Rick and the way Lori’s death is portrayed is striking different between paper and screen.

The couple seems to have few issues in the comic (while in the AMC version Rick appears to almost hate her). Sure, Lori slept with Shane, but Rick was very quick to forgive, stating that it was a different world, and that he was glad Shane was there to protect her. The pair were happy, loving, and a role model to other couples in the group before Lori’s untimely (and unexpected) death in issue 48.

Not as intense, but certainly as emotional.

The death of course happens at different times and in different contexts as well. The television characters don’t even know that The Governor exists at this point, while in the comic he causes Lori’s (and baby’s) death. The show instead has Lori dying in childbirth, leaving her newborn child to survive (at least for now, though I don’t see them killing off a newborn).

As for other differences, the book leaves Dale legless after a walker bite, while of course the series has Dale already dead so that job falls to Hershel. The comic has Hershel successfully farming the prison yard, but in his current state I don’t see that happening in the show.

Different dude, same disability.

Axel has found himself welcome in the group and very useful in Robert Kirkman’s version, yet AMC still sees him as an outcast, though hopefully that will change now that the surviving inmates saved Rick’s life. The physical character also looks substantially different from his paper origins.

Axel leaves the task of Santa Claus to Hershel in the series.

Another major difference between media: only Lori and T-Dog die in this episode, yet in the book when Lori passes, so does almost everyone else. After her death, the comic has Carl and a sick, heartbroken, one-handed Rick on their own for quite some time. This is of course still plausible (though AMC is very unlikely to kill off this many established characters), as Governor still doesn’t know that the prison exists in the series: the comic has everyone dying simply because he wants to take it.

Speaking of The Governor (who AMC introduced us to just last week), this character again shows that he’s substantially different from the pervy looking dick that the comic portrays him as. David Morrissey’s Governor (who in this episode strangely revealed that his name was Philip, though just last week stated that he would never tell) is a much more sly and seductive (and clean cut) character, and though I doubt we’ve seen what he’s capable of, it’s surely more than we’ve seen so far. As I mentioned last week, the comic version of the character spends the better part of a week brutally beating and raping Michonne, and also decides to cuts Rick’s hand off among other things, simply in an attempt to get some information. I also don’t see the same fate coming to the Morrissey’s version of the character: it would certainly be tough to act a one armed, one eyed, penisless, evil shell of a man. In any case, I’m of course excited to see where they take the character.

Governor douchebag: different personality, just as evil.

Honestly, after what I saw tonight, I absolutely can’t wait for next week or for the rest of season 3. Since the premiere four weeks ago each episode has somehow managed to surpass the prior chapter. It’s not a trend that can continue I’m sure, but if Say the Word is half as good as Killer Within was, we’re still looking at some great TV.

As always, thanks for reading, and see you next week!

In early September Shawn posted the first trailer for Barry Levinson’s The Bay. I hadn’t heard of the film before that, but after watching the preview I was instantly excited and couldn’t wait for the feature to release. The Bay hit theatres and VOD two days ago, and I made it a priority to check this one out as I’m generally a fan of found footage films (minus absolute crap like the abysmal Paranormal Activity 4).

The found footage style is typically used to enhance the sense of realism in a film by putting you right in the action. Because you’re witnessing events through very few points of view, the sense of mystery and scale are also substantially different from standard films. After seeing The Bay, I can honestly say that you’d be hard pressed to find a film that feels more real than this. You could literally show The Bay to someone who had never heard of it (which seems to be most people at this point), and they’d be likely to think it was a documentary. The whole thing feels and looks that realistic.

Must. Resist. Swimming.

The fact that the film treats itself similarly to a documentary certainly adds to the realism as well. The Bay opens with flashes of real news footage depicting swarms of dead fish, birds, and other mysterious happenings. It explains that while these events where heavily covered by the media, what you were about to witness was never made public. It was only after all media from that day was leaked by a Wikileaks type source (over 3 years after it happened) that anyone started to believe what had transpired.

Nobody seems interested in helping their neighbors.

The Bay takes place in the small town of Chesapeake Bay during the 2009 4th of July weekend celebrations. Weeks earlier a pair of marine biologists warned the town mayor of the dangerous levels of toxicity in the area’s water (and steroids among other things due to the mass amounts of chicken waste constantly being dumped there). The mayor withheld this information from the public, not wanting to cause any controversy before the upcoming local elections. This is obviously a poor idea, and on the day of July 4th, a parasitic pandemic begins in the area. Anyone who ingests any water (whether drinking or while swimming) becomes host to the isopod larvae (which grow to full size in a matter of hours due to the steroids and high temperatures of the bay). These things disgustingly eat right through their hosts on their journey to freedom, typically killing them in the process. The Bay portrays the events in the town as they occur from a few different perspectives (a confused reporter, and a terrified doctor make for the most interesting), as well as communications with the CDC as they attempt to make sense of the terrors that are ripping the town apart.

Kether Donohue is believable and gripping.

The film is further enhanced by the strong performances that it offers. Every character that has a camera turned to them looks absolutely horrified at what’s occurring around them. Each gives of a sense of confusion and terror that never wavers throughout the whole of the movie. Kether Donohue (Pitch Perfect) gives a wonderful performance as both the heartbroken narrator of the title and a student reporter that finds herself caught in the middle of the terror. Kristen Connoly (The Cabin in the Woods) believably plays a happy new mother on her way to the cursed town, unaware of the fate that awaits her family upon their arrival.

Isopods: not even once.

As I mentioned above, the film feels shocking real. The fact that everything explained during its duration is perfectly plausible is the most terrifying thing of all: why couldn’t this happen? What the fuck happens if it does? I’ve calmed down now, but as the credits rolled I was literally thinking “I’m never freaking swimming again”. The Bay is just that believable, The Bay is just that scary, The Bay is just that real.

The only major issue I can see people having stems from the marketing of the film. While it may be terrifying, The Bay is not the horror movie it presents itself to be. The few jumpy moments that it offers are covered in the released trailers and clips. Again, while you’re bound to be scared and disturbed throughout the film, it isn’t for the reasons you think after checking out those marketing materials.

Shhh. Tell your friends it’s real.

In my opinion, The Bay is the best and most effective found footage film ever (though I’d love to hear your opinion). While you may not be sleeping with your lights on afterwards as some did with Paranormal Activity, it will definitely make its way into your thoughts the next time you head to the beach. Like Contagion (though much more memorable), The Bay gives us a window into a horrifying pandemic that destroys not only lives, but an entire community. Another scary aspect of the film is the idea that none of this should ever have happened, and that human greed and corruption can lead to the deaths of many.

Take a trip to The Bay, just stay out of the water. The Bay scores a handheld 4/5.

Video game movies are a weird anomaly. They’re projects that have plots, atmospheres, and scenes already perfectly laid out,  yet whoever is in charge typically decides to throw all that away, and whatever ends up releasing is an abysmal shell of what could and should have been. Without fail, video game movies SUCK (the latest example of this would be last week’s Silent Hill: Revalation).

So what happens when you make a video game movie about a game that never existed? Wreck-It Ralph is born, and apparently it freaking rocks.

Ralph’s home game, Fix-It Felix Jr.

The premise of Wreck-It Ralph is phenomenal, yet so simple that I’m really surprised it hadn’t been thought of before. Ralph has been doing the job of video game villain for 30 years, and he’s tired of it. The bad guy doesn’t want to be the bad guy anymore, so Ralph sets out to prove that he’s not as much of a villain as everyone makes him out to be. Unbeknownst to Ralph, his leaving the Fix-It Felix arcade cabinet sets off a series of events that could get his own game unplugged, as well as many others in the arcade. Along the way Ralph meets an array of loveable characters, and the film also features countless cameos from other games throughout its duration.

The bad guy never gets invited to parties.

The world of Wreck-It Ralph takes an almost Toy Story approach to explaining how it works. When people are around (the hours that the arcade is open) everyone simply does what they were programmed to do. After hours however, each character has a life of their own just as we do outside of our own work. Being a villain, Ralph is not a very popular guy, and after 30 years he’s understandably lonely and upset about the whole situation.

Ralph ends up in game central (a power bar, which brilliantly explains how the games connect to one another) in order to find a game in which he can win himself a medal (meaning he’ll be seen as a hero instead of a villain). He’ll eventually meet the hilarious Vanellope von Schweetz, an adorable outcast (just like Ralph) that just wants to be a part of her own game (the colorful Kart racer Sugar Rush). The relationship that grows between the two is where Wreck-It Ralph really shines: the pair are hilarious, touching, and at times heartbreaking.

2012’s most adorable animated duo.

As mentioned above, Wreck-It Ralph‘s premise and plot are effective and engaging, and thankfully this goes for the rest of the film too. Voice acting in the movie is top-notch from every single character: there is no weak point, though John C. Reilly (Ralph) and Sarah Silverman (Vanellope) stand out as especially excellent. Visuals are equally impressive, with detailed characters and worlds that tend to go on for as far as you could possibly see. I also love the manner in which the art style changes based on the era of the game the characters are in: the modern Hero’s Duty features hundreds upon hundreds of enemies in a bleak Gears of War style world, while the classic look of Fix-It Felix has sparse environments filled with simple looking characters with choppy animation, just as you’d expect from an older game.

‘Hero’s Duty’ a hilarious satire of the modern FPS

The fact that Disney was able to get so many character cameos from so many different companies is something that I definitely can’t go without mentioning. I don’t want to spoil anything here, but every time one of these recognizable faces showed up on screen, I couldn’t help but smile. There are so many references to different titles that it’s certainly hard to keep up with them all, but I’m sure with each watch of Wreck-It Ralph you’ll pick up on things that you never noticed before.

Bad-Anon is just the tip of the cameo iceberg.

The only real problem that I had with Wreck-It Ralph is that things tend to flow a bit too conventionally. Ralph and Vanellope are both outcasts who form an important, life changing relationship. One of them messes the whole thing up, and it isn’t until the character’s darkest hour that they realize the massive error that they’ve made. Pretty standard stuff, and it slightly drags down an otherwise quite original experience. The film may also be slightly predictable for either extremely intelligent children or anyone over 15, but at its core Wreck-It Ralph is a family film, so I can’t fault it for being easy to understand.

Is Wreck-It Ralph worth your quarters? The answer is undoubtedly yes. Phil Johnston, Jennifer Lee, Rich Moore and the rest of the team have crafted an astonishing, believable, touching world worthy of repeat viewings, and one that will most definitely leave you itching for more. Whatever your age, you’re guaranteed to leave the theater smiling.

Wreck-It Ralph scores a nostalgic 4/5, and is one of the best animated films of the year.

Extremely unexpected but oddly exciting, the beloved Corey and Topanga Matthews may be making their way back to television.

TV Line today revealed the The Disney Channel is beginning development on a follow-up series to Boy Meets World. The show is will follow the life of the high-school sweetheart’s pre-teen daughter, and be appropriately titled Girl Meets World.

The article also states that Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel are wanted to reprise their roles, though neither have signed on at this point.

Honestly, the series is definitely going to be a love it or hate it affair. Boy Meets World began in 1993, and many of the people that grew up with it now have their own children. If they can make the series appeal to old fans and new ones alike, Disney Channel is going to have a winner on their hands.

I know I’ll at least be tuning into the pilot. How about you? It still brings back memories whenever I hear that iconic theme song:

This could be awesome.

The game has been out forever in a million different iterations, but we’ve never seen Wolfenstein like this. Paranorma Media has just announced that Roger Avery will be bringing the iconic Wolfenstein series to the big screen!

Very little information is available on the project at this point (including which Wolfenstein title the film will be based on), but the fact that a film has been announced at all is very exciting. This is something I’ve been hoping for since the first time I played Wolfenstein 3D as a young, impressionable, immature child.

Producer Samuel Hadida stated that “With Roger at the helm, we expect everyone will join us for a wild and fun cinematic ride that will grab contemporary film audiences with the same irreverent, hip, over-the-top approach that Roger brought to Pulp Fiction and the other films he has either written or directed,”

According to THR, the 65-year old Avary has been playing Wolfenstein since its first release, so I’m sure the Pulp Fiction writer will want to do this one justice.

Here’s your storyboard right here!

Are you excited for this one? Did you play the 2009 reboot of the franchise?

After five fantastic years, FOX’s beloved Sci-Fi Drama Fringe is finally set to conclude. FOX today announced that the series will air its final (two hour) episode of January 18th, 2013. Fittingly, the finale will also be the 100th episode of the show.

Admittedly, I’ve not yet seen all of what Fringe has given us, (I’ve only watched the first two seasons) but I loved every minute of it. It’s definitely on my list of items to complete, hopefully sooner than later!

I’m really glad the series is getting the conclusion it deserves. I still recall just a year ago when the future of the series was uncertain (and unlikely)!

Here is the press release for those who are interested!

As the Fringe team fights for humanity’s future in the fifth and final season, the imaginative journey toward the end of the acclaimed series will culminate in a climactic conclusion during the two-hour final-two-episodes event Friday, Jan. 18 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. This milestone date will also celebrate the series’ 100th episode.

Series Co-Creator and Executive Producer J.J. Abrams reflected on the show’s run: “It has been an absolute honor to have been a part of the weird and wonderful world of FRINGE. I will always owe the cast and crew for pouring their hearts and souls into every dimension of this series. Creating the show with Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman was a joy, but watching it evolve over the years into such an imaginative, insane and heartbreaking ride is nothing less than a thrill. I am grateful to our blessed fans, and to Kevin Reilly and Peter Rice and everyone at the glorious Fox network for allowing FRINGE to reach its bittersweet conclusion.”

Executive producer and showrunner J. H. Wyman said, “Above all else, from the bottom of my heart, I would like to personally thank everyone involved with FRINGE. From the most amazing fans, to our incredible cast, writers and crew, and our wonderful partners at FOX and Warner Bros. – we would not be here without you. It simply cannot be overstated how grateful I am for the ongoing and unconditional support we have received over the past five seasons. It has been both mind-blowing and humbling. I’ve always been a fan of science fiction, and to be able to tell this story about a family – a family that, through everything, fought together for survival – has been a highlight of my career. As we approach the final chapter, I can hardly believe it, and I’m just truly thankful for this unparalleled experience.”

“FRINGE has truly imagined the impossibilities over its five seasons and will go down in the books as one of FOX’s most riveting and creatively brilliant series,” said Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “It has been a blast to work with J.J., Joel and their masterful creative teams, as well as with Anna, Josh and John and the rest of the most talented cast and crew in the business.”

Throughout FRINGE’s thrilling five seasons, the series has followed Special Agent OLIVIA DUNHAM (Anna Torv), enlisted institutionalized “fringe” scientist WALTER BISHOP (John Noble) and his globe-trotting, jack-of-all-trades son, PETER (Joshua Jackson) as the Fringe team explored mysterious occurrences linked between parallel universes, doppelgängers, Observers and unimaginable threats. The unlikely trio supervised by Special Agent PHILLIP BROYLES (Lance Reddick) and assisted by ASTRID FARNSWORTH (Jasika Nicole) – often led them to science and technological corporation Massive Dynamic, founded by WILLIAM BELL (guest star Leonard Nimoy), and its enigmatic chief executive, NINA SHARP (Blair Brown).

The fifth and final flash-forward season of FRINGE is set in 2036, when the “Observers” have become ruthless rulers of a dystopian society. As the battle for the world’s future continues to unfold, the Fringe team is in the midst of making its final stand to save humanity. In the aftermath of the devastating loss of Peter and Olivia’s daughter, ETTA (guest star Georgina Haig), the intensity escalates as the combat continues and Peter makes a pivotal and game-changing move in the all-new “An Origin Story” episode airing tonight (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

What do you think of the current season? Looking forward to checking out the finale?

If you’re a gamer of any sort, it’s very likely that you’ve heard of (or maybe even played) Frictional Games’ wonderful Amnesia: The Dark Descent. The game is nearly three years old, and we arguably haven’t seen a more terrifying (or even as terrifying) title since.

The current king of horror is soon to have a new challenger, though this time it’s in the form of a sequel instead of a competing title. Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs will launch in early 2013, and already looks scary as hell. Frictional games has stated that the A Machine For Pigs will not be a direct sequel, and instead will feature a different plot, different characters, and different events. They’ve also partnered with thechineseroom (developers of Dear Esther) for development of the title.

Frictional recently released a quick teaser for the new game, and it looks exactly as you would expect it to. Check it out below, and as always, let us know what you think!

I have to say, I’ve witnessed a lot of fantastic and original marketing this week. Yesterday we showed you the hilarious first part of a new marketing strategy for Far Cry 3, and today we get a very unexpected mash up of fantasy and reality.

Air New Zealand has partnered with WETA to produce a fun new air safety video for the airline. The video includes a cameo appearance by Sir Peter Jackson, as well as fan favourite Smeagol. It’s quite hilarious to see your standard air safety procedures acted out by folks straight out of Middle-earth.

The video lasts just a few minutes, and it’s definitely worth a watch. Also, air safety is important both on and off the plane, so get on it! Safety first!

Are you looking forward to The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey?

Over 1 and a half years have passed since gamers first fell in love withPortal 2, and PS3 players are about to get a new feature. A patch for the game will release on November 6th. This patch will allow you to use your (possibly dusty) move peripherals to control Chell, Atlas, and P-Body. The move controller will work in both single player and co-op modes.

A new DLC bundle will also release this coming Tuesday. While Valve DLC is typically free, the Sixsense Developed In Motion pack will run you $9.99. The pack includes 20 new chambers for you to test in, and features object manipulation not found in the original game.

I’m excited: my Move controllers haven’t been touched in quite some time, and I’m always down for another playthrough of Portal 2! The DLC also looks insane!

Are you planning to pick up the DLC? How about play through the campaign with Playstation Move?

Long time Geekscape pal Axel Braun sent the word today that work has begun on a third sequel to the popular Star Wars XXX: A Porn Parody. The original film (believed to be the biggest budgeted adult film in history) shattered sales records to become the best selling adult DVD ever.

What better time to announce? Everything Star Wars has been big news this week after George Lucas sold his company to Disney for a whopping 4.05 billion in cash and stock. Interest in the franchise hasn’t been this high for some time, so this was an absolutely wonderful marketing move.

People love porn, and people love Star Wars (well, some of them), so I’m sure a lot of folks are excited to hear that we’ll be getting another amalgamation of the two. Including the just announced Episode VII, we’re set to receive three more titles in the Star Wars XXX universe (with the next one releasing this coming September)!

Excited? Have you seen the first film? If not, here’s a (safe for work) trailer!

Machinima and Ubisoft today released the debut episode of a hilarious new marketing strategy for Far Cry 3. The Far Cry Experience is a four-part series that pits Christopher Mintz-Plasse (as himself) versus a tropical island and its angry inhabitants.

I don’t want to give anything away. It takes just a few minutes to watch, in which I found myself laughing aloud more than once. Check it out!

I’m actually really looking forward to Far Cry 3. Far Cry was one of my favourite shooters of its time: the tropical island was a beautiful setting, and the powers that your character received certainly made the game stand out.

I’m sure that I’m not alone in saying that Far Cry 2 was a major disappointment, the open world, Malaria crap, and giant map with nothing to do made for an experience that I couldn’t put up with for more than a couple hours (to this day I haven’t progressed beyond those first few hours).

It looks like Ubisoft is taking the third game back a notch and bringing us back to the tropical setting of the first title. They’ve got my attention, lets hope it pans out alright. In any case I’ll be eagerly anticipating the next chapter of The Far Cry Experience.

On Tuesday the world received the shocking and unexpected news that Lucasfilm (including its subsidiaries) was sold to Disney for a whopping 4.4 billion in cash and stocks. You’ve probably heard this news time and time again, as every single website on the planet has been talking about it constantly for the last 48 hours.

Of course there’s been plenty of coverage on Geekscape too. Aside from the big news, Shawn gave us a few great choices for possible directors, while super fan Eric gave us some fantastic realizations of what we can expect to happen now that the franchise has moved to the house of mouse.

Turns out we were streets ahead on the topic. Nearly two years ago (January of 2011), our writer Witney wrote up some hypothetical reviews on the next three chapters in the Star Wars franchise. The years and titles may be wrong, and who knows how the movies will actually turn out, but in any case they’re definitely a fun read.

Keeping with today’s TERRIFYING Halloween themed posts, you definitely need to check out these awesome DC flavoured pumpkins from artist Andy Bergholtz. Make sure to watch the time lapse videos too (available here and here), as it’s amazing to see these things coming together!

What do you think? Pretty awesome huh!

If you haven’t heard of Mike Diva, you need to check out some of his work. He’s produced some of the finest quality works I’ve seen on YouTube lately, and today’s offering (just in time for Halloween) is no exception.

Slenderman is obviously a huge internet sensation. I haven’t really met anyone that hasn’t heard of him/it, and I’ve even spoken to people that claim to have seen it.

Proxy: A Slenderman Story tells the tale of Vincent, a man who is haunted by visions of the well dressed horror. Watch it, love it, and subscribe to this man. He deserves it.

Terrified? Need something to take your mind off Slendy? Here’s one of Mike’s hilarious older pieces, Sandwich Dad – Fall of the Trapper Keeper.

Today Disney released the first piece of a HUGE three-part image for Oz: The Great and Powerful. This piece gives us a look at what appears to be the most wicked of the main three witches. She sure looks evil by the lack of light in her vicinity!

Oz: The Great and Powerful is set to hit theatres on March 8th. The film is directed by Sam Raimi, and features a pretty stellar cast with the likes of James Franco, Rachel Weisz, Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams, and more.

Are you looking forward to taking a trip back to Oz?

Was anyone else pleasantly surprised with Despicable Me? I wasn’t expecting much going into it, so I wasn’t at all prepared for the hilarious, touching piece of animation that I was about to see.

Of course, Despicable Me made an insane amount of money, so shortly after the film released, work began on a sequel. You won’t have to wait too much longer to catch up with Gru and the gang, Despicable Me 2 will hit theatres on July 3rd.

Check out the Halloween themed trailer below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to this one!

Don’t celebrate Christmas, or planning to see a movie with your family on December 25th? Django Unchained looks like fun for the whole gang!

Thirteen new images for the movie were just released, and though they don’t really reveal anything new, they’re a pleasure to look at anyways.

Check them out below, and as always, let us know what you think!

Again, Django Unchained opens on December 25th.

Okami is absolutely phenomenal. Sadly, even six years after release, almost nobody has played it. I sincerely hope that things are different this time around, now that word of mouth has hopefully spread. I’ve never heard of anyone picking the title up and not instantly falling in love with it.

In Okami, you control Amaterasu, goddess of the sun on her quest to restore colour to the land. The game plays similar to a Zelda style adventure, with plenty of action and exploring in a beautiful world. As you can see from the screenshots, the art style is simply amazing, and this is something further enhanced by this new release.

You’ll play as Amaterasu, goddess of the sun throughout the game.

The game first released for the Playstation 2 in 2006: I still remember asking everyone that I knew if they had played it, and only getting back confused looks as it was a title few people had even heard of. Developer Clover Studio (who also created Viewtiful Joe) was shut down a few months after the initial release, probably due to Okami’s poor sales.

‘Okami HD’ is freaking gorgeous.

The game would later get a well envisioned rereleased on Nintendo’s Wii, which took the very original combat of the game and paired it perfectly with the Wii Remote. In June Capcom announced another rerelease of Okami, this time in full 1080P and supporting the Playstation Move. I can’t tell you how excited I was at this announcement. I’ve played through the Wii version plenty of times, but Okami always deserved the HD treatment.

The HD edition nets you the entire game in full HD. It features Trophy support for those that care to gather them, and also has full Playstation Move support to help you guide the Celestial Brush. I can’t reiterate enough: I absolutely love this game. Okami HD will cost you $20, but it’s well worth every penny! Grab it on PSN right NOW!

Earlier this month NBC delayed the season 4 premiere of Community indefinitely. The news came just 10 days before the set date, and was horrible news for fans everywhere.

It appears as though a new date has now be set. Deadline reports (later followed by cast member tweets) that the premiere date is set for February 7th… months and months from now.

It sucks, and there isn’t much else to say. We should have already seen two episodes, and instead we’ll be waiting 100 more days to even see one. The only positive here is that the show is returning to its original timeslot rather than moving to Friday as initially reported.

100 more days. Plenty of time to catch up on Whitney.

Last week gave us an insane introduction to the prisoners that had been residing in the West Georgia Correctional Facility. It also gave us a quick conclusion to more than half of them, which was a sad end but definitely kept the group from getting too large (and kept us from having to keep track of even more characters). The episode was absolutely fantastic. In fact, in the last pod, Jonathan stated that it was his favorite episode of the series so far.

Let’s jump right in to last night’s episode! As usual, you’ll see spoilers below! You’ve been warned!

Episode Thoughts – ‘Walk With Me’

Last week’s intense prison moments left us with absolutely no time to catch up with Michonne and Andrea. It’s nice to see things reverse this week: we won’t spend a single frame with Rick and the gang, and instead Andrea and Michonne fall front and centre.

Where there’s smoke…

The episode begins with a group of military-looking men travelling in a helicopter before their engine decides to fail. Andrea and Michonne are in the vicinity of the crash, and obviously rush to find out what happened: could this have been a rescue attempt? In any case, how is there a helicopter in the sky after all of the chaos of the past year?

I don’t think he made it.

The pair arrive at the scene just long enough to get a look at a survivor before vehicles begin to approach the area. The untrusting duo naturally hides as the group takes the only living occupant of the copter. Just as the group is about to leave, Andrea and Michonne are threatened from behind. Who could it be but Merle Dixon, Darryl’s long lost one handed brother (now with a badass Assassin’s Creed esque shiv). The pair also witness the leader of the group (David Morrissey portraying the freaking Governor) killing what they think is another survivor. The two of course don’t know that everyone is infected, and that simply dying is enough to bring you back.

The long lost Dixon brother returns!

The pair are hooded and brought to an unknown location. Andrea is in as rough shape as we saw in the season premiere, but her new captors seem only interested in assisting her. They provide her with medicine and tend to her injuries. How bad could these people be? The duo is shown to a nice room, and offered food before being told that if they want to leave, they can do so at dawn.

The Governor initially seems like a great guy. He doesn’t appear to have any interest but helping Andrea and Michonne, and seems to get nothing but respect from the people he leads. Daylight arrives, and The Governor (who never says his real name, but it probably starts with a P) shows the duo what he’s been up to since the apocalypse happened: Woodbury. A town, a safe haven, a place where people respect the guidelines that have been set for them, and appear to be happy with their lives once more. In the age where the dead don’t stay dead, this looks absolutely impossible. Andrea looks perplexed throughout her tour: this is something Rick’s gang has been striving for since the dead began to walk, and here it is in the flesh (no pun intended).  For the first time in nearly a year, she doesn’t have to walk around with her finger constantly resting on a trigger, and she can can let her guard down and recuperate.

Remember when Andrea was super annoying?

Of course, people tend to not be who they seem in this universe, and The Governor is no exception: he’s a sadistic, evil fuck whose ‘safe haven’ is just a by-product of him looking out for himself. He assures the lone survivor of the helicopter crash that he will bring the rest of the platoon to the town, and after he is told their location, he kills them. Why? I don’t know really, but it looks like Woodbury received a LOT of supplies by doing so, and also removed a potential future threat. Governor also ends the episode by grabbing an adult beverage, heading into a secret room, and staring at some fishtanks full of walker heads. What. The. Fuck.

This is a weird fetish if I’ve ever seen one.

We learn a few more interesting pieces of information throughout Walk With Me. Even Merle is afraid of the seemingly timid Governor: if you remember Merle from the first season, he was typically the character with the biggest ego and the shortest fuse. He calms right down as soon as Governor tells him to, which may attest to just how crazy Governor could be. It’s also revealed in the episode (thanks to The Governor’s clever scientist) that the walkers can starve, and that it simply takes longer for them than for a living human. Does this mean that when the food sources run out, the zombies will simply die off? Is there possible hope for the future?

I have to say, this episode was absolutely phenomenal. While last week’s Sick was Jonathan’s favourite episode of the series, I’d say that its follow-up is mine. Only three characters that we’ve ever seen before get any screen time, but we’re introduced to the most terrifying walker we’ve ever seen, and he’s not even dead. David Morrissey gave a grand performance, and I can’t wait until we get to see more of what this character has to offer. Walk With Me continues the trend that the first two episodes started: this shit is fantastic. At this point, season 3 of The Walking Dead is exponentially better than anything that the series has offered in the past. My only hope is that this momentum can continue!

The episode of course ended with a preview of next week’s Killer Within. Check out the trailer below, and let us know what you think!

 Comic Comparison

While episode 20 started around the same time as issue 13, the gap between the media has closed substantially (the comic has dealt with things that the show hasn’t even hinted at yet). Both episode 22 and issue 26 begin with a helicopter crash, but see different outcomes and different survivors heading to check out the wreckage.

While the numbers gap may be closing, the series and comic continue to spread thematically. The comic has had Michonne comfortably living with Rick’s group for some time already, while the series has them unaware that the other exists. The show still has survivors dealing with walkers at the prison, while the comic has passed that and is dealing with how shitty humans can be once things calm down.

The Governor is a character that seems very different on screen than he did on paper. Though he is evil as fuck in both, he is much more upfront about it in the comic. In Robert Kirman’s story, Rick, Michonne, and Glenn are led to Woodbury after finding the crash scene empty. Here they’re hastily told that they are to be fed to zombies for the entertainment of the town. The Governor is also determined that the three have something that he wants (which turns out to be the location of the prison) and he plans on torturing the trio to get the location. He also spends the better part of a week brutally raping Michonne after she bites off part of his ear (something I doubt we’ll see in the show).

Looks different, acts different, still evil.

The show introduces The Governor very differently as well: he’s still a saviour to the area of Woodbury, but also a friend to Michonne and Andrea after finding them at the crash site. The two end the episode with mixed thoughts of the man: they don’t fully trust him, yet he has given them no reason not to. It’s when the duo is off screen that you see just how sick The Governor can be.

Of course there are plenty of other differences in the media (caused simply by the different continuities of the two). Walk With Me of course reintroduced Merle to the screen, who like Darryl never appeared on paper. The comic has Dale and Andrea as a couple with a huge age difference, while the series has Dale deceased and Andrea lost to the group. The inhabitants of the helicopter were vastly different between media too: the comic has them as simply survivors from the fallen city of Atlanta, while the show of course had them as military personnel.

Isn’t he a little old for you?

I’m extremely excited to see where we’ll be taken next in the AMC series. I don’t want to get too much into Woodbury and the Governor at this point in case anything I reveal pops up in episodes to come. All that I can say is that I expect things to shit the fan sooner than later, and it’s going to be awesome.

See you next week! Thanks for reading!

Just a few hours ago we reported that James Mangold’s The Wolverine would be released in 3D, but this is surely the coolest piece of Wolverine news today.

Following the live Q&A with Hugh Jackman and James Mangold (which just ended), Fox officially revealed the teaser poster for the film, and it looks UNREAL.

Check out the poster below, and watch the Q&A if you missed it! As always, let us know what you think!

Are you more excited for the film after seeing this?

This was just sent down the Geekscape pipeline by JCVD superfan, Jonathan London himself! At first I wondered why, but then I watched the trailer. This movie looks AWESOME.

U.F.O. follows five friends in their attempt to avoid the chaotic outcome of an alien invasion. Then Jean-Claude Van Damme shows up!

I don’t want to give any more away! Watch the trailer, get excited. U.F.O. hits home video and VOD in January.

It started with a blackout, all power and communications down. Hours later city sized UFOs invade the world’s skies. Then the war began…

Five friends attempt to navigate their way to survival amidst deteriorating chaos as the world descends into terror and anarchy during an alien invasion and interstellar war.
