Coming off a stellar year, Universal has announced some details regarding the next installment in the ‘Jurassic’ franchise. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are set to reprise their roles while Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly, the duo who rewrote ‘Jurassic World’, are set to write the sequel.

Colin Trevorrow, who directed ‘Jurassic World’ will produce alongside Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall. For those of you wondering, the sequel to ‘Jurassic World’ will join Godzilla 2, Black Panther, The Flash, Avengers: Infinity War Part I, Aquaman, Captain Marvel, and the stand alone Han Solo Star Wars film. Sounds like a good year!

Briefly: It’s finally here!

Yep, Jurassic World was a damned fun movie, but we’re almost more excited for Lego Jurassic World. The game is now available for PS Vita, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360. Xbox One, Wii U, 3DS, and Steam, and it looks like an absolute blast.

Following the epic storylines of Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III, as well as the newly-released Jurassic World, LEGO Jurassic World is the first video game in which players will be able to relive and experience all four “Jurassic” films. Reimagined in LEGO form and told in TT Games’ signature classic LEGO humor, the thrilling adventure recreates unforgettable scenes and action sequences from the films, allowing fans to play through key moments and giving them the opportunity to fully explore the expansive grounds of Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna.

In the game, players will be able to collect precious amber, which contains dinosaur DNA to create and customize species. And, for the first time in a LEGO game, players will be able to play as LEGO dinosaurs, including dinosaurs from the “Jurassic Park” series and from the upcoming Jurassic World film. Populate and explore Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna by putting your unique dinosaur creations in to paddocks as you complete special Free Play missions.

Hopefully playing through The Lost World and Jurassic Park III is a better experience than watching them was! Take a look at the launch trailer below, and let us know what you think!

Briefly: The park is finally almost open.

We’ve got less that one week of waiting until the highly anticipated Jurassic World hits theatres (it’s about time), and Universal has debuted the final trailer for the feature.

It shows off a ton of footage that we haven’t seen yet, and a ton of Indominus Rex, so you may want to stay away from the video if you’re hoping to head in spoiler free. For everyone else, the trailer takes a far more serious tone than we’ve seen thus far, and I couldn’t be more excited.

Jurassic World hits theatres on June 12th! Let us know how excited you are in the comments below.

Briefly: Following the final trailer from just a few days back, Universal has just debuted a new clip for June’s Jurassic World.

The clip shows our sexy hero (Chris Pratt of course) running from an extremely CG dinosaur. The clip is fairly cool, but really makes me miss the animatronic days of the first two films.

You can take a look at the clip below, and let us know what you’ve thought of the film’s marketing thus far! Jurassic World hits theatres on June 12th!

The official trailer for Jurassic World has been released and it looks like things are going to be intense.

In the trailer, the new T-Rex has escaped and they soon figure out that she is highly intelligent and self aware. She decides to turn the tables on her captors and starts hunting and killing for fun (that’s a very clever girl). I really like that they still haven’t revealed what the genetically modified T-Rex actually looks like.

Seriously, Chris Pratt riding with the Velociraptors is just bad ass looking. Can’t wait!!

The park is open on June 12

The final ‘Jurassic World’ poster has been revealed in anticipation of tomorrow’s new trailer reveal. It features Chris Pratt zooming along on his motorcycle with a flock of velociraptors. Silly? Awesome? Or do we just have to wait and see? Regardless, we can’t wait!

Briefly: All of us here at Geekscape are beyond excited for this Summer’s Jurassic World, but the sure-to-be-blockbuster is also getting a licensed game that we can’t wait to get our hands on.

It’s called Lego Jurassic World, and like many of Traveller’s Tales Lego titles, it’ll span the entire franchise of films… even Jurassic Park 3.

A new trailer for the game, which is slated to hit PS3, PS4, PS Vita, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, and Windows alongside the film this June, has just hit the web, and it’s filled to the brim with that classic Traveller’s Tales humour.

Take a look at the trailer below, and be sure to let us know if you’re looking forward to the title, and don’t forget your thoughts on Jurassic World!

The new Jurassic World spot is out and it is AWESOME! If you missed it, take a look below, and revel in all its glory.

Jurassic World hits theatres on June 12th. Enjoy the big game!

Ahead of its scheduled Thanksgiving weekend debut, the trailer for the new Jurassic World has been released online! Starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and — whoa, BD Wong!

Colin Trevvorow sits in the director’s chair, but the man himself Steven Spielberg is on board serving as executive producer.

From the press release:

Steven Spielberg returns to executive produce the long-awaited next installment of his groundbreaking Jurassic Park series, Jurassic World.  Colin Trevorrow directs the epic action-adventure from a screenplay he wrote with Derek Connolly.  Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley join the team as producers.

Jurassic World will be released in 3D by Universal Pictures on June 12, 2015.

Well, I know what I’ll be watching over and over this weekend.

Briefly: We’re generally not fans of the whole trailer-for-a-trailer phenomenon that seems to be so hot right now, but we’ll take anything that we can get from the don’t-call-it-a-reboot Jurassic World.

Today it was revealed that the full trailer will hit the web next Thursday (that’s a great Thanksgiving gift for all you ‘Muricans), and along with that reveal, Universal has debuted a short teaser featuring the first footage from the anticipated film.

The footage is very, very brief, simply telling us that ‘The park is open’ before showing us some of the film’s beautiful stars (especially Chris Pratt) and some gorgeous dinos.

For now, we’ll have to settle for this short snippet, but be sure to check back on Thursday for the full Jurassic World trailer!

Briefly: Following that awesome teaser photo from just a few weeks backJurassic World director Colin Trevorrow has taken to twitter to debut the first teaser poster for the film.

The image is classically similar to the teaser one-sheet for each and every Jurassic film thus far, but the logo is taken to depths that we haven’t seen before. We also get a new (and exciting) tagline: the park is open.

Jurassic World really sounds like it could breathe some much needed life into the once great franchise, and I really, really can’t wait to see some footage. For now, take a look at the teaser image below, and be sure to let us know if you’re excited! Jurassic World hits theatres on July 12th, 2015!

Briefly: Sure, we already know some of what’s set to happen in Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World, but one prior uncertainty was just where in the Jurassic Park franchise this film would sit: was it a reboot? Was it connected? I don’t recall seeing any of that information… until now.

Trevorrow has celebrated Autumn’s coming by posting a rather revealing photo to twitter. It’s an image that should definitely resonate with fans of the franchise, and one that leads to many questions about just how Jurassic World came to be. Take a look at the photo below, and you’ll see what I mean.

Yep, that sign and its fateful, spinning arrows partially led Dennis Nedry to his untimely demise, and a shaving cream can full of embryo’s to be forgotten, until now? Sure, they only had 36 hours of cooling, but science has come a long way since Jurassic Park, hasn’t it?

In any case, especially after the disaster that was Jurassic Park 3, I’m more than excited for a new take on the series. Jurassic World hits theatres on July 12th, 2015!

Briefly: Following the three dino-free stills released earlier this monthJurassic World director Colin Trevorrow has debuted a bloody behind-the-scenes image from the film’s production.

As amazing and foolproof as I’m sure the Jurassic World theme park will be, something terrible is bound to happen (otherwise it wouldn’t be a Jurassic film, of course).

Take a look at the image below, and let us know what you think! Jurassic World hits theatres on June 12th, 2015.

Briefly: The photos don’t show off any of the film’s real stars (the dinosaurs, duh) but Universal Pictures has debuted three new stills from next Summer’s Jurassic World.

The images show off a buff Chris Pratt on a sexy motorcycle, Simpkins and Robinson looking amazing (probably because of a dinosaur, and Bryce Dallas Howard looking super business-y.

Take a look at the photos below, and let us know what you think! Did you catch those (spoilery) plot details from a couple weeks back? Jurassic World hits theatres on June 12th, 2015.

Briefly: Jurassic World is just over one year away from theatres at this point, and last week major setting and plot details from the film leaked online. Nobody knew what to believe, but director Colin Trevorrow has just officially revealed plot details from Jurassic World.

In a just-published interview with SlashFilm, director Colin Trevorrow has detailed the plot of Jurassic World, stating that “Jurassic World takes place in a fully functional park on Isla Nublar. It sees more than 20,000 visitors every day. You arrive by ferry from Costa Rica. It has elements of a biological preserve, a safari, a zoo, and a theme park. There is a luxury resort with hotels, restaurants, nightlife and a golf course. And there are dinosaurs. Real ones. You can get closer to them than you ever imagined possible. It’s the realization of John Hammond’s dream, and I think you’ll want to go there.”

He continues, revealing that the film will take place more than two decades after Jurassic Park. He speaks of two main ideas that came to light when deciding the film’s setting:

One was that money has been the gasoline in the engine of our biggest mistakes. If there are billions to be made, no one can resist them, even if they know things could end horribly.

The other was that our relationship with technology has become so woven into our daily lives, we’ve become numb to the scientific miracles around us. We take so much for granted.

Those two ideas felt like they could work together. What if, despite previous disasters, they built a new biological preserve where you could see dinosaurs walk the earth…and what if people were already kind of over it? We imagined a teenager texting his girlfriend with his back to a T-Rex behind protective glass. For us, that image captured the way much of the audience feels about the movies themselves. “We’ve seen CG dinosaurs. What else you got?” Next year, you’ll see our answer.

There are some other great revelations here, so be sure to read the full interview over at SlashFilm. It really sounds like Trvorrow and the team are trying to turn the franchise around, and I really can’t wait to see what they come up with.

Are you looking forward to Jurassic World? Be sure to let us know! The film hits theatres on July 12th, 2015.

Briefly: The first set photos from Jurassic World are here, and they’re already looking better than the entirety of Jurassic Park 3.

The images come care of EW, and show Bryce Dallas-Howards’ character, as well as a damaged Jeep, and a Jurassic World chair in what looks like a gorgeous Hawaiian landscape.

The film stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Vincent D’Onofrio, Nick Robinson, Ty Simpkins, BD Wong, Irrfan Khan, David Oyelowo, Omar Sy, and more, and will hit theatres in June 2015. Take a look at the images below, and let us know what you think!

Still over a year away from theaters, Jurassic World is shaping up to be a monster of a film. Not much media has been released of the film, but today we bring you some of the initial designs and concepts for the facility in Jurassic World.

Jurassic World Concept (2)

Jurassic World Concept (1)

Set a few decades after the events in the third film, Jurassic World takes place at a third park. A successful park, that by the time the film starts, has been up and running for some time.

Besides these pretty pictures, and the June 2015 release date, we also have a nice list of actors that will be starring in the film.

  • Chris Pratt
  • Bryce Dallas Howard
  • Vincent D’Onofrio
  • Nick Robinson
  • Ty Simpkins
  • BD Wong
  • Irrfan Khan
  • David Oyelowo
  • Omar Sy

We would love to hear your thoughts on Jurassic World as well as everyone’s opinion on these concept images.

Much to the dismay of fans, last month it was announced that Jurassic Park IV had been put on an indefinite hold. It appears as though that hold may not be as long as expected, as ComingSoon has just seen a new banner for the film (or at least for something Jurassic Park related), that states its release in 2015.

The news comes from the Las Vegas Licensing Expo, which has also stated that the movie will be shot (and not post-converted in 3D. Universal has not confirmed anything yet, but an expo like this should be a pretty reliable source.

Take a look at the new banner below, and let us know what you think of the news!

Today is a huge day in the world of cinema.

You see, today Jurassic Park celebrates it’s 20th anniversary. The legendary film that broke records, captivated audiences with its groundbreaking special effects, and caused hundreds of kids around the world (myself included) to develop an extreme interest in dinosaurs (specifically the Raptor which pre-Jurassic Park most of us kids had never heard of). I really should be doing a Retroactive Thinking about it… but I’m not. I like Jurassic Park, it’s a great movie… but 5 years and one day after its release, a film came out that left a much larger impression on me. That movie is 1998’s Can’t Hardly Wait.

CantHardlyWaitPoster

I grew up in the mid-90’s. What I mean by this, is that since I was born in 1985, it was 1994-1995 when I really started caring about stuff. Once you hit the double digits, you start to listen to your own music, start going to the mall by yourself, and begin attending movies without your parents because now you’re a junior high student. The 90’s was full of forgettable teen flicks, and this was the one that started it all.

Can’t Hardly Wait (released June 12th 1998) was written and directed by Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan (who’s only other directing job was the criminally under-appreciated Josie and the Pussycats). The film not only reignited the teen flick after years of absence, but remains the best film of the resurgence (on par with American Pie). The simple plot follows a group of high school students at a giant graduation party. The biggest focus of the movie is on Preston Meyers, who has been in love with Amanda Beckett since freshmen year, but as long as he’s known her, she’s been dating Mike Dexter. Finally, on graduation day Mike and Amanda break up, and it’s Preston’s chance to tell her how he really feels.

We also follow the nerdy William Lichter as he attempts to get revenge on Mike Dexter, and Wigger Kenny Fisher (Seth Green) trying to lose his virginity. There are plenty of other small plot-lines mixed into the film (including a brilliant one about a high school band’s first show).

So why did this movie leave such a massive impact on me? It goes back to 1998. As shocking as it may be to you readers, but I was a bit of a geek in Jr. High. I remember this movie’s trailer and I remember not really having an opinion about it. Unlike when I saw something like The Phantom Menace trailer, I didn’t say ‘Man, I have to see that’. At the time I was hanging out with Adam, a kid who was my best friend throughout Junior High (and then we kinda went our separate ways in high school). I’ll always remember the day we finished 6th grade and felt like 2 grown ups (I, of course wouldn’t be an actual grown up until… well… I’m probably still not a genuine adult). I was invited by Adam to see this movie after our last day of school with a girl he was dating and her friend. As per usual, the girl’s friend had zero interest in me, so instead of getting my make-out on I just sat in a mostly empty theater watching Can’t Hardly Wait.

Can’t Hardly Wait was a rare type of movie. It was the only 90’s teen flick (again, except for maybe American Pie) that really had an 80’s feel to it. What I mean by that, is that the characters were relatable and very real. They represented the various cliche’s realistically without being stereotypes (much like Breakfast Club). It was the first time I felt like I was seeing my classmates accurately depicted on the big screen.

Six years after it’s release, I graduated high school, and while I didn’t attend a giant graduation party, I did attend a small party at my Salutatorian’s house. It was a typical gathering of high school outcasts. We decided to put on Can’t Hardly Wait, and we quickly realized that despite the film coming out when we were in 7th grade, we still graduated with those characters.

Every time I watch Can’t Hardly Wait, I desperately want to write my own teen flick. One day I will I’m sure, but no matter what I do or how hard I try, I’ll never create a teen movie as incredible and relatable as this film.

Simply put, I love the shit out of this movie. I’ve even attended at least three Halloween Parties dressed as Kenny Fisher (see below). Some people own every version of Star Wars ever released, and I’ve purchased every version of Can’t Hardly Wait made available. The VHS, the DVD, The 10 year reunion DVD, and on the day that Harry and Deborah release the uncut R version of the movie on Blu-Ray I will purchase it as well (and probably a Blu-Ray player so I can watch it).

You may be asking ‘an R rated version?’ In order to get a PG-13 there were various scenes that had to be cut from the movie. This also involved us losing one of the main characters in the original film, Crying Drunk Girl. Crying Drunk Girl (played by Jennifer Elise Cox) was the key character linking all the storylines together. The joke being that she hears Denise and Kenny get locked in a bathroom, she knows Preston, and offers to help Amanda find him. However, no one can understand her because she’s too drunk to produce genuine words. All of her dialogue would have appeared as subtitles letting audiences in on the joke. She eventually hooks up with the foreign exchange student.

Amber Benson and Jason Segel in Can't Hardly Wait
Amber Benson and Jason Segel in Can’t Hardly Wait

Two other characters, Stoned Girl (played by Amber Benson) and Watermelon Guy (Played by Jason Segel) saw a major cut to their screentime. Segel originally had a scene explained that for the last year he’s been soaking a Watermelon in Vodka, while Benson’s character only appears on screen for 2 seconds staring at a banana. Here’s hoping that somewhere an unrated version of the movie will see the light of day.

So, take some time and remember the 1998 film that launched enough careers that my friends and I like to play “Six Degrees to Can’t Hardly Wait”. Maybe Doug Benson will play that on Doug Loves Movies… in fact, I’m going to tweet that at him.

Take this one with a grain of salt for now, but it’s damn sad news for Jurassic Park fans if it turns out to be true.

Just days after it was confirmed that Jurassic Park IV would return to Isla Nublar, the entire project may have been put on hold due to scripting issues. The internet has been ablaze with rumours of trouble brewing on set, and FleshEatingZipper pulled some (now deleted) tweets from some of the film’s concept artists, stating that the entire team was fired today and that they’re now unsure whether the project is on hold, or cancelled completely.

That’s all the info that we have for now. We’ll update you as we learn more, or when we get an official word. What are your thoughts on this?

CancelledJP

UPDATE: Universal has confirmed the indefinite delay of Jurassic Park IV. Here’s their official statement on the matter, sorry fans:

“Universal has decided to release Jurassic Park 4 at a later date giving the studio and filmmakers adequate time to bring audiences the best possible version of the fourth installment in Universal’s beloved franchise.  We could not be more excited about the vision that Colin Trevorrow has created for this film, and we look forward to watching as he and the producers create another great chapter in this franchise’s storied history.”

Director Colin Trevorrow has tweeted the following photo which reveals that Jurassic Park 4 will take us back Isla Nublar. In the original 1993 film, Island Nublar was the location of the original failed theme park which was not returned to in either of the sequels. Both the second and third film took place on Isla Sorna aka “Site B”. It looks like we may be returning to some very familiar locations when the film hits theaters next year.

Jurassic Park 4 is set to hit theaters June 13, 2014

We’re now just 14 days away from Jurassic Park‘s triumphant 3D rerelease, and Universal has launched 3 new TV spots to promote it.

I couldn’t be more excited for the film, and I really, really wish that there was an IMAX near me so I could experience it on the bigger-big screen. I saw the 3D trailer in theatres a few weeks back, and as soon as the classic music started up I could feel the goosebumps on my skin. Jurassic Park was the first movie that I ever saw in theatres, and I couldn’t be more excited for its return.

Watch the new TV spots below, and let us know what you think! Jurassic Park 3D opens on April 5th!

Via the film’s official YouTube channel, Universal today revealed two new TV spots for the upcoming 3D rerelease of Jurassic Park.

I am beyond excited for this film; Jurassic Park was the first move that I ever saw in theatres, so it’s set to bring back some memories for sure. I just wish that there was an IMAX near me so I could see the 3D remaster in all of its gigantic glory!

Check out the spots below, and let us know what you think!

Are you excited for this one? Jurassic Park 3D opens on April 5th.

Sad news for the folks over at Isla Nublar.

Producer Frank Marshall revealed today via twitter that his counterpart and franchise producer Kathleen Kennedy will not be a part of Jurassic Park IV. Kennedy recently stepped in as president of LucasFilm, and will instead act on as Executive Producer on the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII.

Jurassic Park IV still has no cast or director, but is scheduled to release on June 14th, 2014.

Any thoughts on this news?

It was only yesterday that we received the first official poster for the upcoming release of Jurassic Park 3D. If that wasn’t exciting enough (for me, it was), Universal today released a trailer for the 3D remaster.

Of course, it’s nothing that we haven’t seen before (time and time again), but the simple fact that Jurassic Park is coming back to theatres is enough to make me giddy. I was just three years old when the film officially released, so I’ve never had the opportunity to see it on the big screen.

Are you excited for this one? Or does that fact that it’s a 3D conversion turn you off of it?

Love it or hate it, 3D is here to stay. It also tends to make a pretty insane amount of money! When it’s good, it tends to be very good (and vice versa of course).

Pixar has had pretty major success in bringing its older titles to the 3rd dimension (CG films tend to mean an easier conversion). James Cameron also did a phenomenal job converting 1997’s Titanic. Now it’s Spielberg’s turn, and in just five months his beloved Jurassic Park will hit theatres once more.

We haven’t heard much about this one (despite the fact that it’s happening), but today the teaser poster was made available online for your viewing pleasure. Look’s like it won’t be long before we see even more, as a trailer is set to be released tomorrow!

I’m looking forward to the rerelease! I thought that Titanic 3D was a stellar experience, and certainly hope that Jurassic Park looks similar! The film will hit theatres on April 5th, 2013.

Well, it looks like we will be getting that fourth ‘Jurassic Park’ that has been talked about for years. Deadline is reporting that Universal is setting Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver to write the script for the fourth film. Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy will be producing the film but Spielberg will not be directing this one.

Will we get robotic dinosaurs or cgi? Will it be yet another island they forgot about? Will we get any of the original cast? Just sayin’…Jeff Goldblum please.

I don’t have those answers. What I do know is that Universal is re-releasing the original film in 3D on July 19, 2013. Anybody hear that? It’s a, um… It’s an impact tremor, that’s what it is… I’m fairly alarmed here.

On this edition of Brave Nerd World, Heidi and Stephen discuss still being behind on their comics, Heidi’s part of the LA Fringe Fest and currently running show D is for Dog, nerd burlesque and of course get around to the topic of dinosaurs at some point. Get ready to return to Jurassic Park, just in time for the film’s 20th Anniversary in next year. Universal has just announced (via Deadline.com) that they are re-releasing their classic Spielberg blockbuster in 3D on July 19th, 2013, right smack dab in the middle of Summer. While re-releases of classic movies in 3D is not a new trend, usually they are released in the Winter or Spring, as to not compete with the big, shiny new movies of Summer. At the same time, Universal  has moved up the release of their Tom Cruise sci fi flick Oblivion to April 26, 2013. This seems a bit odd, as April seems a better date for an older movie, but what do I know?

While I am sick to death of 3D, I don’t mind older films getting the 3D re-release treatment, because that seems to be the only way to get those classic films on the big screen for a whole new generation of ignorant teenagers  fresh, new moviegoers. If the only way for that to happen is to release them in 3D, then so be it. Besides, what would you rather have….this or a lame Jurassic Park IV?

Soon to be "Comin' At Ya!" in 3D, scaring the pants of impressionable children brought to the theaters by irresponsible parents.
