A brand new full-length trailer has been released for A Good Day To Die Hard. The trailer features plenty of action and some more plot details for Jon McClane’s next outting.

Iconoclastic, take-no-prisoners cop John McClane, for the first time, finds himself on foreign soil after traveling to Moscow to help his wayward son Jack – unaware that Jack is really a highly-trained CIA operative out to stop a nuclear weapons heist. With the Russian underworld in pursuit, and battling a countdown to war, the two McClanes discover that their opposing methods make them unstoppable heroes.

A Good Day To Die Hard hits theaters February 14th.

Just earlier today it was revealed that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was on the list of contenders  for the role of Peter Quill aka Star-Lord in Marvel Studios highly-anticipated Guardians Of The Galaxy. Based on that we assumed that maybe he was the mystery actor who had read for the role before the holidays. Well, it appears we may have been wrong because just a short while ago actor Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville) revealed that he is also in the mix for the role in Marvel’s upcoming space epic.

The fan-favorite actor has actually already previously worked with director James Gunn in the past. There’s definitely a chance that Gunn may be going after someone that he’s more familiar working with for the role. But then there’s plenty of great candidates on this ever-growing list and with production set to begin in a few months an official announcement regarding who lands the role should be expected soon.

Guardians Of The Galaxy hits theaters August 1, 2014.

A blood new teaser poster has been released for the upcoming remake of Carrie. The poster features Carrie in a blood-soaked prom dress and we all know how that one goes.

The only thing wrong with this poster? Well, that would be the release date. It’s been revealed that Carrie has been pushed back from March to October. It looks like Paranormal Activity 5 will have to go up against a horror movie that might actually be good.

“The quiet suburb of Chamberlain, Maine is home to the deeply religious and conservative Margaret White (Moore) and her daughter Carrie (Moretz). Carrie is a sweet but meek outcast whom Margaret has sheltered from society. Gym teacher Miss Desjardin (Greer) tries in vain to protect Carrie from local mean girls led by the popular and haughty Chris Hargenson (Portia Doubleday, Youth in Revolt), but only Chris’ best friend, Sue Snell (Gabriella Wilde, The Three Musketeers), regrets their actions. In an effort to make amends, Sue asks her boyfriend, high school heartthrob Tommy Ross (newcomer Ansel Elgort), to take Carrie to prom. Pushed to the limit by her peers at the dance, Carrie unleashes telekinetic havoc.”

Carrie will hit theaters October 18th, 2013.

It appears that the list of actors up for the role of Peter Quill aka Star Lord in Marvel Studios Guardians Of The Galaxy just got a bit more interesting. Before Christmas it was revealed that among the shortlist that was already revealed, both Zachary Levi (Thor: The Dark World) and an unnamed actor were also up for the role.

Well, it appears that Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The Dark Knight Rises, Looper) is the latest candidate for the role in the James Gunn directed space epic.  While it is unclear if Gordon-Levitt has been offered the role, his name is definitely in the mix over at Marvel Studios. After his performances in Looper and The Dark Knight Rises this year, Levitt is definitely a great candidate for the role. With production set to begin in a few months an official announcement regarding who lands the role should be expected soon.

Guardians Of The Galaxy is set to hit theaters August 1st, 2014.

If you’re a fan of Quentin Tarantino’s work, there’s no doubt you’re a fan of Inglourious Basterds. Well, while doing press for his latest film Django Unchained, the director has revealed plans for an Inglourious Basterds spin-off titled Killer Crow that will be set in 1944 after Normandy. The director told The Root:

“I don’t know exactly when I’m going to do it, but there’s something about this that would suggest a trilogy. My original idea for Inglourious Basterds way back when was that this [would be] a huge story that included the [smaller] story that you saw in the film, but also followed a bunch of black troops, and they had been f–ked over by the American military and kind of go apes–t. They basically — the way Lt. Aldo Raines (Brad Pitt) and the Basterds are having an “Apache resistance” — [the] black troops go on an Apache warpath and kill a bunch of white soldiers and white officers on a military base and are just making a warpath to Switzerland.”

So that was always going to be part of it. And I was going to do it as a miniseries, and that was going to be one of the big storylines. When I decided to try to turn it into a movie, that was a section I had to take out to help tame my material. I have most of that written. It’s ready to go; I just have to write the second half of it.”

Tarantino also added that Killer Crow would definitely be connected to Inglourious Basterds because well, the Basterds would be in it. But he made sure to point out that while they would appear the movie was still “about the soldiers.” Here’s to hoping he gets to work on that second half soon.

Welcome to The Week In Comics, an all-new recap and rundown of the week’s news and events in comics. It may have been a slow week as far as releases, but it definitely was still a huge week due to two issues that hit the shelves.

Introducing The Superior Spider-Man!:

This week we were introduced to The Superior Spider-Man in issue #700 (also the final issue) of Amazing Spider-Man. If you haven’t check it out yet, read what I think about the character and why you should actually be excited for this in “The Superior Spider-Man: The Character You’re Going To Love To Hate” here.

Both issue #700 of Amazing Spider-Man and Avenging Spider-Man #15.1 flew off of shelves this Wednesday, with Avenging Spider-Man #15.1 now running around $15 on eBay, and have gone into second printing already. Below (courtesy of MTV Geek) you can check out Humberto Ramos second print variant for issue #700, an homage to Todd McFarlane’s cover from Amazing Spider-Man #300. Trust me when I say this, if you’re a collector do not sleep on this one because it will fly off of shelves as well.

Excelsior! Stan “The Man” Lee Turns 90:

And while on the subject of Spider-Man, we should also take a moment to wish a happy birthday to one of the men behind the creation of the character. A very happy 90th birthday to Stan “The Man” Lee!

“Thrones Of Atlantis” Begins:

Over on the DC shelf this week we saw the start of “Thones Of Atlantis”, the crossover event between Justice League and Aquaman. And if that last panel in #15 of Aquaman was any indication, this may be one event that you do not want to miss.

Could Wally West Be Coming To The DCnU In 2013?:

Now, don’t get your hopes too much yet over this next one but there’s a chance that we may finally see fan-favorite Flash Wally West joining the DCnU next year. It was revealed a bit back that current Flash writers Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato had a plan to bring the character to the DCnU, but there hasn’t been much talk about it since then. Dan Didio, DC’s Senior VP and Executive Editor, however made an interesting Facebook post earlier in the week.

Merry Christmas to Everyone!
Even you Wally. maybe I’ll see you in the New Year.

While this is no form of actual confirmation it is definitely interesting that he would include that there randomly. With Manupal and Buccellato revealing that we will be seeing the reverse flash coming next year, how could would it be if it turned out to be Wally West?

Like I said, this was definitely a small week due to the holidays. But definitely check back with us next week as we recap all the news and events coming to your local long box.

So, we are going to warn you right off the bat that there are spoilers in this article. If you have not yet read Amazing Spider-Man #700 and Avenging Spider-Man #15.1, you may want to avoid reading any further.

Starting next month we’re getting a new Spider-Man in the Marvel Universe. No, the man behind the mask is not Peter Parker. Well, not exactly that is. At the conclusion of “One Dying Wish” we end an era and begin a new chapter in Spider-Man’s story. This is quite possibly one of the riskiest stories that Marvel has done and is going to lead into something quite a bit darker and different than we’ve seen in the past when it comes to Spider-Man. Trust me, writer Dan Slott definitely has some of the biggest balls in comics right now. Just check hit Twitter feed out for all the hate he is getting over this.

There’s plenty of people already complaining about issue #700 without even reading it. Hell, I would even go as far to say that most of those people don’t even read comics and haven’t for years and just feel the need to constantly complain. Fans are always screaming for something different, even though most times fear it when they get it, and Marvel is giving you what you asked for. I’ve read the issue and as a life-long fan of Spider-Man can say it’s a “superior” end to the run (pun intended).

Marvel is shaking up the status quo with Marvel NOW! in order to generate new potential for storylines. Rather than giving us the hero that we’re going to root for, Slott is going to be giving us the anti-hero that we’re more so curious about and intrigued by. As the title above states, this is going to be a character that you are going to love to hate. But why would you read this story if it isn’t Peter Parker in the suit? Well, I am going to tell you why you should give this one a shot.

Do you honestly think that Slott and the people at Marvel do not have some form of outline as to where this story will go and lead to even more exciting storylines?  I mean, this story has been builiding up for one hundred issues. Yes, it started all the way back in issue #600. And do you think that this won’t, and it most likely will, end with the triumphant return of Peter Parker? We need these kinds of risks to happen in order for stories, as well as the characters involved, to evolve and grow. If we don’t take these risks, we face the stagnant boring repetitive stories that we complain about all the time. Personally, I am excited to see where they take the Superior Spider-Man series.  Especially being that I am going to get to see him deck Wolverine straight in the face.

So, comic readers while you may hate the character (and that’s kind of the point I think), I don’t get the feeling you’re going to hate where these comics take us. Instead of being the typical jaded comic reader who fears and hates change, make sure you pick up Amazing Spider-Man #700 and Avenging Spider-Man #15.1 this week. And then give Superior Spider-Man a shot before you write it off. While you may not admit it to your friends and the rest of the world, you may just end up becoming a fan of the series.

Well, it appears that Hugh Jackman may have just confirmed a rumor that was reported a few months back. While speaking with Parade at the Les Miserable’s release, Jackman was  pretty straight-forwardly asked to spill some details about the film.

Give us a little scoop on the film.

And even though you thought he might have dodged the question. Jackman replied with:

You want to get me into trouble, don’t you? [laughs] Okay, the movie takes place after X-Men: The Last Stand. My character is at his lowest. He is supposed to be able to heal himself, but he may encounter someone who has worked out a way to really hurt him. And there is a cameo from one of the past X-Men in it.

Now, of course there’s a number of characters that could appear. But it is definitely worth noting that an earlier rumor surfaced that we may see Famke Jansenn appearing in the film as Jean Grey. We’ll find out just who is going to be making an appearance when The Wolverine hits theaters on July 26, 2013.

Yet another new trailer has been released for Quentin Tarantino’s latest, Django Unchained. Let’s be honest, this trailer really isn’t needed because we’re all going to see this one. But, it has been released so check out the final trailer for the film below.

Django Unchained hits theaters on December 25th.

Even though five actors were tested last week for the lead role in Marvel’s upcoming space-epic Guardians Of The Galaxy, it appears that only three actors remain up for the role of Peter Quill AKA Star-Lord, the leader of the team. According to Variety, actor Jim Sturgess (Cloud Atlas) and Zachary Levi (Thor: The Dark World) are the frontrunners for the role in the Marvel Studios film.

It’s worth noting that Levi wasn’t originally included on the shortlist that was revealed a short while back and is already appearing in one of Marvel Studios “Phase Two” movies at the moment, playing the role of Fandral The Dashing in Thor: The Dark World. But apparently Marvel is so impressed with his screen-test, that they’re “open to continuing their relationship.” There is also word that an unnamed third actor may be tested after the holidays for the role. With the list narrowing down and production set to begin sometime next year expect official word in the next few months regarding the role.

The first trailer for Eli Roth’s Aftershock has arrived online. The film which is co-written by Nicolás López (who also just happens to direct) and Guillermo Amoedo is a disaster thriller with a twist. Take the February 27, 2010 Chilean earthquake, throw in the fictional story about an insane asylum whose inmates are freed during the earthquake and add some of the usual Eli Roth elements and you’ve got what looks like it could be an interesting horror-thriller to check out.

Earlier this month it was revealed that Gail Simone’s editor on Batgirl had decided to remove her from the book as her contract had run out. Well, after an uproar over the internet it seems that DC has has now chosen to reverse that editor’s decision.

Simone took to Twitter to reveal the news that she would be returning to Batgirl after Ray Fawkes finishes up his story arc.

This is news that is sure to make fans of Simone’s work on the title quite happy.

After an incredibly strong first half of season three, it’s no surprise that AMC has picked up The Walking Dead for a fourth season. However, what may come as a bit of a surprise is that showrunner Glenn Mazzara will be stepping down after season three. There have been rumors regarding why Mazzara will be leaving that include him being unhappy working on the series. AMC released the following statement:

“Both parties acknowledge that there is a difference of opinion about where the show should go moving forward, and conclude that it is best to part ways. This decision is amicable and Glen will remain on for post-production on season 3B as showrunner and executive producer. AMC is grateful for his hard work. We are both proud of our shared success.”

There were also solo statements released by Mazzara, Executive Producer Gale Anne Heard as well as Executive producer and creator Robert Kikman.

Glen Mazarra: “My time as showrunner on The Walking Dead has been an amazing experience, but after I finish season 3, it’s time to move on. I have told the stories I wanted to tell and connected with our fans on a level that I never imagined. It doesn’t get much better than that. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey.”

Gale Anne Heard: “I am appreciative and grateful to Glen for his hard work on ‘The Walking Dead.’ I am supportive of AMC and Glen’s decision and know that the series is in great hands with one of the most talented and dedicated casts and crews in the business. I look forward to the show’s continued success.”

Robert Kirkman: “I am in full support of both AMC and Glen Mazzara in the decision they have come to and believe the parties came to this decision in the best interest of the future of the show. I thank Glen for his hard work and appreciate his many contributions to The Walking Dead and look forward to working with him as we complete post production on Season 3. I am also excited to begin work on another spectacular season of this show that I know means so much to so many people. This show has always been the result of a wide range of extremely talented men and women working tirelessly to produce their best work collectively. I believe the future is bright for The Walking Dead. Thank you to the fans for your continued support.”

This wouldn’t be the first time the series had troubles with its showrunner. In the middle of the second season, Frank Darabont left the show leaving Mazzara to take over for him. Word is that the trouble began with Mazzara when AMC began to drag their feet when it came to renewing the show even following the record numbers.

The Walking Dead will return with new episodes on Sunday, February 10.

Principal photography on the the film has just wrapped and the first official look at Edgar Wright’s The World’s End has been released! The film stars friend of Geekscape Simon Pegg (who you will see appearing in Doc Of The Dead), Martin Freeman (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey), Nick Frost (Attack The Block), Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes) and Paddy Constantine (The Bourne Ultimatum) as a group of friends on an epic pub crawl to reach the bar “The World’s End”. But as the group makes their way to the pub, they discover that the fate of humankind is on the line.

20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

The World’s End hits theaters in the U.K. on August 14, 2013 and in the U.S. on October 25, 2013.

No long ago it was revealed that a Suicide Squad movie was in the works but there hasn’t been much word since then regarding the project. But now, while speaking with Collider, Dan Lin has revealed that there is already a script done for the film but we shouldn’t expect to see it go into production any time soon. Well, at least not until Warner Bros. gets done with bringing their major characters to the big screen.

“[Suicide Squad] has a script from Justin Marks,” says Lin. “But that is on a hold right now. I think Warner Brothers wants to finish their A-list stories first and then we’ll talk about stories like Suicide Squad.”

While it a bit of postitive news that there is indeed a script, it’s a little bit of a downer that we most likely won’t see this any time soon. Warner Bros. may want to get on this before Marvel decides to make a Thundebolts movie though. Just saying.

Upon Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm, questions arose regarding the current Star Wars comics that are currently being released by Dark Horse Comics. Would we continue to see the release of Star Wars comics through Dark Horse or would they cease after the contract with Lucasfilm ran out in 2013? Well, no big surprise here. Disney has decided to not renew that contract with Dark Horse and instead will return the titles to Marvel.

The Suits in the know have determined that no new contracts will be given to Dark Horse after the current ones expire. So all new projects after 2013 will be handled internally by Marvel.

It’s not known yet if titles will be worked into the regular line up, or will Marvel create a special branch of the company that deals with Star Wars. It’ll take a couple of years for the old deals to work there course, but the stories that Dark Horse have coming down the pipeline will be the last. And you can expect anything new from Marvel dealing with Star Wars to arrive around 2015.

I don’t think I’m going out on a limb in saying that we can definitely expect some Marvel Star Wars titles to be hitting shelves around 2015, which just so happens to be the same year that Star Wars: Episode VII is scheduled to be hitting theaters.

A signed image of Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises) as “Mad” Max Rockatansky has surfaced online (via Twitter). While the image may be a bit blurry, this is the first official look at Hardy in George Miller’s Fury Road. Apparently Hardy gave these out to the crew  on the last day of shooting.

“Mad Max Fury Road” sees Mad Max (Hardy) caught up with a group of people fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by the imperator Furiosa (Theron). A battle erupts on the road in front of them over the course of the film as they attempt to push the rig to safer terrain.

No release date has been set yet.

A new still image has been released from Marvel Studios highly-anticipated Iron Man 3. The images features a close-up shot of a battered and broken Tony Stark suited up, possibly taking place after a battle with one of the film’s antagonists?

Marvel Studios’ “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. Iron Man 3 suits up in theaters May 3, 2013.

Arrow won’t be back until mid-January, which means you have plenty of time for some good ol’ fashioned comic reading. So, we’re going to share the four essential Green Arrow comic book story lines to hold you over until Oliver Queen returns to your small screen.

4. Quiver

Quiver from writer Kevin Smith and artist Phil Hester tells the tale of the return of the original Green Arrow after being thought dead for a number of years. Many want to know just how he survived the plane crash thought to have killed him and just where he has been. Quite possibly one of the most convincing resurrection stories for a superhero.

3. Hard Travelling Heroes Vol. 2

Hard Travelling Heroes Vol.2 by writer Dennis O’Neil and artist Neal Adams, the team-up between Green Lantern and Green Arrow, also includes one of the most well known of Oliver Queen’s stories “Snowbirds Don’t Fly”. In this we see Roy Harper aka as Speedy, Green Arrow’s sidekick, become a junkie. While the story is somewhat of a cheese filled 70’s tale it definitely did tackle an issue not commonly touched in comics. What made these stories stand out was that rather than focus on action they dealt more with character, something uncommon with the comics of this era.

2. The Longbow Hunters

One of Oliver Queen’s more interesting stories, The Longbow Hunters by writer and artist Mike Grell, sees Oliver and girlfriend Black Canary move to Seattle. The series established Green Arrow as more of a vigilante than a superhero and was pretty damn violent. Grell really downplays the superhero aspect quite a bit and sees Oliver Queen realizing that in some ways he’s lost his way and moving away from his trick arrow and back to the longbow and arrows. Definitely one of the defining story lines for the character.

1. Year One

Arrow takes quite a bit from Year One by writer Andy Diggle and artist Jock. This story told an updated and thrilling re-imagining of Oliver Queen’s beginnings as Green Arrow that kept the essence of the original while updating it very strongly. If you’re a fan of Arrow, this is probably at the top of your “must read” list. Actually, even if you’re not a fan of the show you should read this one.

Production is set to begin next month on Marvel and ABC’s S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot and they’ve now found the final addition to their cast. Nashville actress Chloe Bennett-Wang has joined the prospective TV series as Agent Skye.

The Agent is being described as “a confident woman who is slightly obsessed with superhero culture and the shadow organizations that exist within it. She’s edgy and can out-talk anyone with her unflappable nature.”

The relatively unknown actress will join Ming-Na, Clark Gregg, Brett Dalton, Elizabeth Henstridge, and Ian De Caestecker for the Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot, which looks to premire as part of ABC’s Fall of 2013 line-up.

Not long ago it was revealed that Hugh Jackman was in talks to join the cast of X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Director Bryan Singer has now revealed that Hugh Jackman has officially signed on to reprise his role as Wolverine in the upcoming sequel to X-Men: First Class.

X-Men Days Of Future Past is scheduled to hit theaters July 18, 2014.

Universal has finally set a release date for the David Twohy (Pitch Black, Waterworld) directed Riddick, the third chapter in the Chronicles Of Riddick series, starring Vin Diesel, Karl urban Jordi Molla, Matt Nable, Katee Sackhoff, Bokeem Woodbine and Dave Bautista. The Furyan will be returning to theaters and IMAX on September 6th, 2013. Diesel commented and added the following image to his Facebook page.

“Our page has been up for over three years… Before FB knew what a million fans was… you pioneers of social media were chanting for the next chapter. So for me, it is surreal to look back at some of the older posts, and the comments that followed. Even the discussion boards… haha, I remember a great thread one of you created comparing biblical characters to the Furyan. The art work you have created over the years… you made it happen. You really do inspire me… and your voice is manifesting, what you want to see… and yeah, that’s cool.

P.s. I know, I am talking too much… but I am proud of you…”

There has been various casting announcements and small bits of news coming out over the past few months regarding Marvel & ABC’s S.H.I.E.L.D. But, currently there had been no word as to when we might actually see the pilot for the series. Now, in a recent interview with PREVIEWSworld, Marvel Head Of Television (as well as comic writer) Jeph Loeb revealed just when to expect to see the pilot next year.

“We have a “little” pilot for television that you might have heard about called Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. co-written, directed, and Executive Produced by none other than Joss Whedon! Working with Joss, Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, Jeffrey Bell on the show is a blast! And bringing in Clark Gregg to play Agent Phil Coulson…the best! Hopefully we will be on in the Fall of 2013 on ABC!”

While this doesn’t give any actual air date it does give an idea of when to expect the live-action Marvel Studios series. With how well they’ve handled their movies, it’s going to be pretty exciting to see what they can do with a weekly television series in between their films.

After an unexpected hiatus, DC Nation is coming back to your Saturday mornings. Young Justice, Green Lantern: The Animated Series and all of your favorite DC shorts will be coming back to Cartoon Network on January 5th. Check out a sneak peek at what’s in store  when the animation block returns.

It has been revealed that actor Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables) is in talks to join the cast of the Wachowski’s upcoming sci-fi film, Jupiter Ascending. While the actor has not signed on for the film yet, if he does sign on you can take his name off the list of actors up for the role of Star-Lord in Marvel Studios Guardians Of The Galaxy. Production on both films will take place around the same time making it impossible for Redmayne to do both.

If Redmayne does indeed sign on for Jupiter Ascending, he will join Mila Kunis (Ted) and Channing Tatum (G.I. Joe Retaliation) in the film which takes place “In a universe where humans are near the bottom of the evolutionary ladder, a young destitute human woman is targeted for assassination by the Queen of the Universe because her very existence threatens to end the Queen’s reign”.

The CW’s Arrow will return on January 16th and things are about to “heat up” in Starling City. In this episode we will see  Oliver Queen taking on Garfield Lynn aka Firefly and learn even more about “the list” and just who is really behind it. If you missed it, check out our look at the mid-season finale with The Mark.

There’s been plenty of rumors regarding who would be joining the cast of the next film in The Expendables franchise. Many of these rumors have been shot down but we now have our first confirmed new cast member. At a press conference promoting his new movie CZ12, Jackie Chan has confirmed that he will be in the next film after being offered a role by Sylvester Stallone.

“Sly had invited me to be in The Expendables 2 but I was too busy filming CZ12 and couldn’t make a commitment to the film. But he did extend his invitation to the third movie, which I agreed on the condition that I will be appearing as more than just a minor role with a few scenes.”

Chan also revealed that he has told Stallone that he hoped the next film would “run along the lines of a ‘buddy-buddy’ movie if he’s in it, to which Sly obliged. The script for The Expendables 3 is currently in the works and we could possibly begin to hear even more casting announcements soon.

Ever since the announcement that Walt Disney Pictures announced in October that they havead acquired LucasFilm and a new Star Wars trilogy would be coming to theaters, there has been quite a bit of speculation as to who would direct the films all over the place. Plenty of names had been tied to the project but many have come out and denied their actually involvement with the highly anticipated next installment in the franchise.

While speaking with ABC News Radio, LucasFilm President and executive producer Kathleen Kennedy offered up a brief update on the status of the film:

“I have no immediate update, but hopefully in January I’have something that I can say.”

It’s completely possible that in Januray we will be getting an announcement regarding the director and possibly even some casting announcements. Kennedy also confirmed that pre-production will begin sometime in the Spring of 2013.

Star Wars: Episode VII is currently looking at a 2015 release date.

Nine years after the release of The Return Of The King, Peter Jackson’s long awaited return to middle earth is here. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey takes place 60 years before The Fellowship Of The Ring and tells the story of Bilbo Baggins, which you met in that film, and how he came to possess the ring and his journey to help the dwarves reclaim the kingdom of Erebor, their former kingdom that has been taken over by the dragon Smaug.

The film may indeed be a slow start to this new trilogy, which should be expected when introducing middle-earth and the inhabitants to new viewers, but the team behind the film really do a great job of building up the momentum for the films to follow. Some may argue that the running time of An Unexpected Journey may run a bit long, but fans of Jackson’s middle earth will most likely love that the director added to the world that the books existed in which allowed him to expand upon the original story. After you get through the first part of the movie and Bilbo finally decides to join the group on their journey, the film really picks up and begins the journey that we want to see.

Of course the film is heavy on the special effects and you can definitely tell what advances have been made since the original middle-earth trilogy. The team behind the film does a fantastic job making orcs, goblins and everything in this universe seem tangible. The sets have great detail put into them and look beautiful from the very start of the film. Action scenes in the film are breathtaking and flow perfectly. Everything in the film is just as rich in detail as you’d come to expect from it, if not surpassing your expectations.

In regards to the cast, Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins is without a doubt the stand-out in the film. He plays the role perfectly and goes on to become to kind of hero that the audiences cheer for with ease. And just like Gandalf, we put our trust in him because he gives us courage. McKellen of course returns at the top of his game as the ever loved Gandalf, who always seems to disappear and return just at the right time. Andy Serkis reprises his role as Gollum and makes the character every bit as sad yet terrifying as we saw him in the last trilogy. Serkis is really at the top of his game this time around. Richard Armitage as Thorin makes a good impression. The rest of the cast is great but no one really stands out more than the rest.

While some may leave this film unsure of Jackson’s decision to stretch two films into a massive epic trilogy, you can definitely understand why he did. The scale of the adventure is huge and had he cut the film down it may have actually have seemed rushed. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is a great first installment to this new trilogy that will offer fans both new and old a quite satisfying journey. Intended to not only build the foundation for what’s to come as well as Peter Jackson’s original middle-earth trilogy and will leave you wanting to see the sequel The Desolation Of Smaug instantly, even though you just spent nearly three hours watching this film. It’s going to be a little bit before we can see how the entire story plays out but Peter Jackson’s return to middle-earth is a journey that is definitely worth taking.
