Get your tampons ready because today we’re reviewing Scream Factory’s Carrie Double Feature. Filled with more fire and menstruation than a burning sorority house and more crucifix’s then a church this double feature will have you warning everyone you know that they’re gonna be laughed at. Let’s watch!

Show of hands, who remembers The Rage: Carrie 2? Okay, so only the kids of the 90’s. How about the Made For TV adaptation of Carrie? No one? Okay then, you’re in luck… sorta. Scream Factory have brought both of these carrie adaptations onto the same disc.

Carrie-Double-Feature-Blu-ray

When I first received the package in the mail I thought it was Brian De Palma’s adaptation, so I was a little disappointed when I realized it was the made-for-tv movie starring Angela Bettis. It’s unfair to compare 1976’s Carrie to this TV movie. De Palma’s original is a masterpiece and even 30 years later remains one of the better King adaptations. Before I talk about the things working against this version I’ll focus on what it does right.

Angela Bettis is a great Carrie. It’s basically impossible to outdo Sissy Spacek’s career-defining performance but she steps up to the challenge and creates an equally (but very different) Carietta White. Also quick shout-out to Katharine Isabelle, not because she has anything important to do, but I’m always excited to see Isabelle in anything.

It was also written by Bryan Fuller who is the television genius behind cult shows like Pushing Daisies, Dead Like Me and Hannibal. As far as adaptations of novels go this does an applaudable job. The book’s “retro-active story-telling” style is presented in a series of interview segments between Detective Mulchaey (David Keith) with a handful of survivors.

The issue is the direction. Despite my absolute love of David Carson’s previous mini-series The 10th Kingdom this film just feels sloppy and rushed. The camera moves too chaotically in sequences, the performances feel like first (and only) takes and the camera stock seems off. I wouldn’t be shocked if this was one of the earliest TV movies made with a digital cameras. It has that early 2000’s digital film look.

It’s weird because this movie isn’t good, but it’s not offensively bad either. It’s just disappointing. On paper you have a bunch of people I like remaking a book that I like and it just doesn’t work. However I’d still say it’s worth watching because the whole movie feels like an experiment that didn’t work. I have to give the filmmakers credit for trying to do something new with a very well known and respected property.

Now while this was my second time watching the Carrie TV-Movie this was the first time I watched The Rage: Carrie 2 even though I specifically remember seeing the trailers on TV and the posters all over my local mall.

Everyone warned me that The Rage: Carrie 2 was a terrible movie. Now I’m not saying it’s NOT a terrible movie, but what I am saying is that with how low they made my expectations I ended up really enjoying this movie.

Right off the bat I’m loving the fact that in the first 10 minutes we have two cast members of American Pie (Mena Suvari & Eddie Kaye Thomas), Jason London and a soundtrack featuring Far Behind by The Hippos.

Now don’t get me wrong, this film is pretty terrible. The dialogue, the plot, the acting and the direction are all just slightly off. But I enjoyed it.

the-rage-carrie-2

The Rage: Carrie 2 is written by the man who penned the masterpiece known as Hackers and directed by the woman behind Poison Ivy… so you kinda know what you’re in for from the start. However going into this movie with nothing behind a memory of the trailer and everyone’s word that it was complete garbage left me pretty surprised that I was entertained.

The film has all the 90’s cliches. Diners, convos about Sharon Manson, asshole jocks keeping score of girls they’ve slept with, prank phone calls, huge party sequence, Brad from Home Improvement… the list goes on. It’s goofy as all hell but done in such a serious tone.

The film does this weird thing where every time Rachel (on yea… there’s no Carrie in this movie) uses her powers it cuts to black and white. It’s doesn’t achieve anything and is more distracting than anything.

There’s a bunch of logic leaps throughout, the movie is super slow in the middle and it basically plays out as a weird high school version of Romeo & Juliet (with Juliet having the ability to murder with her mind) but I honestly enjoyed it.

The slow-burn is really worth it for the final massacre at the party. It’s really is a collection of great practical effects, some cringe deaths and solid gore. If it was a little shorter and had better direction I think The Rage: Carrie 2 would actually be a pretty well liked cult film from the 90’s. No Bullshit.

Briefly: Following the film’s first clip from earlier this month, MGM today debuted a second scene from Kimberly Peirce’s Carrie.

The video is short, clocking in a just 16 seconds, and spotlights a distraught Carrie attempting to console her clearly unstable mother. The clip really showcases the fantastic performances that the film is sure to have, and it makes me very excited to get in line on Friday night.

Take a look at the clip below, and let us know what you think! Carrie hits theatres on October 18th!

The quiet suburb of Chamberlain, Maine is home to the deeply religious and conservative Margaret White and her daughter Carrie. Carrie is a sweet but meek outcast whom Margaret has sheltered from society. Gym teacher Miss Desjardin tries in vain to protect Carrie from local mean girls led by the popular and haughty Chris Hargenson, but only Chris’ best friend, Sue Snell, regrets their actions. In an effort to make amends, Sue asks her boyfriend, high school heartthrob Tommy Ross, to take Carrie to prom. Pushed to the limit by her peers at the dance, Carrie unleashes telekinetic havoc.

Briefly: Advertisement or not, this is unbelievably intricate and absolutely hilarious.

A new viral video promoting the release of this month’s Carrie remake has popped up online, asking the question: what if telekinesis was real?

The answer: you’d freak the shit out of everyone.

The video takes to a New York coffee shop, where unsuspecting visitors are treated to a telekinetic freakout. Honestly, the reactions are priceless (and you know that you’d do the same thing).

The teaser looks to feature a few seconds of new footage, but mostly reminds us that high school is freaking rough, especially for anyone who’s even a little bit different.

Briefly: Carrie is barely a month away from theatres at this point, and it’s looking better and better with each new trailer, clip, and still released.

MGM today debuted a brand new behind-the-scenes look at the film, which looks to contain a few pieces of new footage, as well as a myriad of interviews with the film’s cast and crew.

The featurette is certainly a great look into the anticipated movie, and from what I’ve seen so far, Chloe Moretz should play a fantastic Carrie. Take a look at the featurette below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the film! Carrie hits theatres on October 18th!

Briefly: We’re now just over a month away from the anticipated release of Kimberly Peirce’s Carrie remake, and MGM has just debuted a second theatrical trailer for the film.

This trailer looks to go deeper into Carrie’s relationship with her mother, just how much she gets tormented in school, as well as a little more of what happens on the fateful night when she decides that she’s had enough. The preview could even be considered spoiler territory… if Carrie hadn’t originally released nearly fourty years ago.

This Carrie adaptation is looking very impressive in my opinion; tt’s got an excellent cast, a chilling trailer , an awesome motion poster, and much, much more. I can’t wait to see the full feature (and wish that it hadn’t been delayed).

It’s been some time since we’ve seen any new marketing for Kimberly Peirce’s remake of Stephen King’s Carrie. I’m quite excited for the film, as both the trailer and released still photos have looked well shot, emotional, and disturbing.

A new motion poster for the film has just debuted online, and while showing off a few gory pieces of the film, it’s also clever and hilarious. Take a look at it below, and you’ll see what I mean.

Keep calm and Carrie on indeed. I’m as sick of that phrase as the next guy, but that is an amazing, hilarious exception. Carrie hits theatres on October 18th, and I can’t wait! How do you feel about a remake of this classic?

Following the tease that they gave yesterday, the full-length trailer for Kimberly Pierce’s Carrie has debuted. The remake of the Stephen King horror classic stars Chloe Grace Moretz and looks great. However, be warned that the trailer does give quite a bit away if you’re not familiar with the story.

This Carrie remake looks like a bloody mess… pun intended.

Unfunny jokes aside, the upcoming remake of the 1976 adaptation of the 1974 novel by Stephen King is looking pretty stellar. This week’s edition of Empire Magazine features a new still from the film; though similar to previously released images, it still manages to be affective and disturbing. Chloe Moretz looks to be a great fit for the part, and I can’t wait to see the finished feature.

MGM has just revealed a new character poster for the upcoming (though delayed) Carrie remake. While the previous teaser poster gave us a look at Chloe Moretz as the film’s titular character, this time we get a nice peek at her mother, Julianne Moore as that damned Margaret White.

Carrie creeps its way into theatres on October 18th. Are you looking forward to this remake?

A blood new teaser poster has been released for the upcoming remake of Carrie. The poster features Carrie in a blood-soaked prom dress and we all know how that one goes.

The only thing wrong with this poster? Well, that would be the release date. It’s been revealed that Carrie has been pushed back from March to October. It looks like Paranormal Activity 5 will have to go up against a horror movie that might actually be good.

Carrie will hit theaters October 18th, 2013.

The first teaser has arrived for the remake of the 1976 horror classic based on Steven King’s Novel. Chloe Moretz takes on the role that Sissy Spacek made famous and aims to wreak bloody havoc on a new generation.

So, when I was a small child my mom let me watch Carrie late at night in order to fuck with me. And Brian De Palma’s 1976 film definitely did. Well, not as bad as IT did…but that’s an entirely different story for another time. At first when I heard that they would be remaking this movie I was definitely against. But upon hearing that it would follow the Steven King story (I have actually read it) closer than the original movie would and after finding out the cast as well I am definitely going to give this one a chance. Take a first look at some pictures of the re-creation of probably one of the most memorable scenes in the movie.

It was announced online today that MGM and Screen Gems have offered the titular role in their remake of the classic Brian DePalma horror film Carrie to 15-year-old actress Chloe Moretz (Kick-Ass, Hugo). The retelling of the 1974 Stephen King novel being directed by Kimberly Peirce (Stop-Loss, Boys Don’t Cry) is slated for a late 2013 release-date.  A couple months back when the film was first announced, it was revealed that Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who helped rewrite the best-selling Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark Broadway musical, had penned the new adaptation.  Aguirre-Sacasa is said to have written a version that’s more faithful to the original novel and more grounded than the original film.

Carrie is about a girl in high school who’s regularly bullied by her classmates and her mother.  Unbeknownst to them however, Carrie possesses dangerous telepathic powers.  Just when it seems like her life is starting to turn around as she stands on stage with her hot date at prom, she falls victim to a mean-spirited prank designed by her peers. In an iconic and chilling scene, Carrie unleashes her psychic rage upon the high school prom.

We know thanks to Kick-Ass and Let Me In (the American retelling of Let The Right One In) that Moretz has the acting chops to pull off the role. She’s proved that she’s comfortable with a wide range of roles ranging from sweet and innocent to violent and dangerous. When (and if) she officially signs on, the studio will turn its attention to casting the roles of Carrie’s prom date and her mother.

Check out the trailer for the original 1976 Carrie, Directed by Brian DePalma.

According to the Vulture.com, MGM has narrowed down their choice for the title role in their remake of Brian DePalma and Stephen King’s 1976 classic Carrie down to two actresses. The two main contenders for the part are said to be Chloe Moretz, better known to geeks as Hit Girl from Kick-Ass, and 24 year old Haley Bennett, who most people would only know from the movie The Haunting of Molly Hartley. Moretz is still only fifteen, so she hasn’t completely gotten over her awkward phase yet, which is a good thing. Bennett is a bit too sexy looking for Carrie White to me, and there is nothing I hate more than when Hollywood throws on a pair of glasses on an obviously sexy twenty something and musses up her hair, and suddenly expects us to buy that they are awkward outcast teenagers.

Is Hit-Girl Chloe Moretz our new Carrie White?

Some of the other actresses who tested for the part were Dakota Fanning, Emily Browning (Sucker Punch) Bella Heathcote (Dark Shadows) and Lily Collins (Mirror Mirror) In my opinion, each of these actresses is way too conventionally beautiful (and too old)  to play the part of pale and awkward Carrie White, so I’m glad they were passed over. One of the big problems with so many of these horror remakes of classic movies is that every teenager looks like they are potential Victoria’s Secret or Abercrombie & Fitch models. Look at the original versions of Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th; the teens look like teens, some of them even have visible zits. Now they all look they came out of some weird factory that only makes perfect, chiseled people (this factory also supplies the CW Network with the cast for all their shows) Carrie needs to be someone who can look real, awkward, and believably seventeen.

The last tidbit from this article is the most interesting: It seems director Kimberly Pierce is looking for either Jodie Foster or Julianne Moore to play the part of Margaret White, Carrie’s crazy fundamentalist mother. Either of these choices raises my interest level for this project a thousand fold. After seeing her play another ultra conservative unbalanced mom in the form of Sarah Palin in Game Change, I could totally see Julianne Moore totally delivering in this part. Or it could also be a huge acting comeback for Jodie Foster, who hasn’t had a mainstream hit movie in almost a decade. Either choice at least give me partial hope this project won’t be total a waste of time. But whoever ends up in either part has rather huge shoes to fill, because Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie totally owned those roles.
