This article is brought to you by the letters O, M, and G, because oh my goodness, Kristin Palach of Kristin Made Stuff’d is running the sweetest Kickstarter campaign. Her Corgi and Pugasus plush toys are equal parts silly, precious, and fluffy-looking. You can’t have enough corgis (they are fairy dogs, you know) and who wouldn’t want a horned, winged pug? It has a bone as a cutie mark, for crying out loud!

Corgi and Pugasus - Corgi Corgi and Pugasus- Pugasus

The pair aren’t alone either! Joining them is an otter friend, whom I presume is named Otter. Each of these 10 inch tall plushes is made of minky, soft fabric and features embroidered details.

Corgi and Pugasus - Otter

Now, we get to the hard truth. These little ones won’t get made if the Kickstarter’s goal of $15, ooo isn’t met. The campaign has currently earned $8,242 in pledges. Unfortunately, only four days are left to pledge. If you can find it in your heart to pledge some money (and get fun rewards in return – I am looking at you, coloring book), head on over to the Kickstarter page.

Hyper Light Drifter looks to be the next big indie game and We Love Fine has just the thing to celebrate the title’s upcoming release. The online store recently put up pre-order listing for a plush of the Drifter. To celebrate the support for the game’s Kickstarter campaign, the toy will be 15 percent off of the $28 price tag (equating to $23.80) until April 14.

Hyper Light Drifter with sword - We Love FineThe Drifter’s character design made the transition to plush splendidly, don’t you think? It is made from combination of minky and fleece fabrics and comes armed with his energy sword, which can be affixed to the plush’s hand via velcro (unlike the Shovel Knight plushes‘ magnetic limbs and accessories).

Hyper Light Drifter plush from We Love Fine

The Drifter can also be set in all manner of poses with the help of its weighted bottom and feet. The toy is very photogenic, especially with its multiple layers of clothing.

If you plan on purchasing this plush, I would recommend doing so before the April 14 sale deadline. It will still be available to pre-order after that but you will end up paying more. We Love Fine’s Hyper Light Drifter plush is scheduled to ship on July 19.

Sailor Moon Crystal‘s third season began yesterday. Airing as a subtitled simulcast on Hulu and Viz, this season follows the manga’s “Mugen – Infinity” story arc also known as the Death Busters arc. Right out of the gate, viewers will notice that the look of the animation differs slightly from the first two seasons, most likely because of fan feedback. The new characters and transformation sequences are what I would call “classic” and less “stylized.”

Sailor Moon Crystal season 3

The first episode, entitled “Infinity 1- Premonition” (which, incidentally, is the same title as the corresponding manga chapter), also gives us our first viewing of the new opening and closing themes. The opening theme, “New Moon ni Ai Shite” (“Fall in Love with the New Moon”), will be performed by Etsuko Yakushimaru. The first of the ending themes (there are reported to be three in total) is “Eternal Eternity” sung by the actors for Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus, Sayaka Ohara and Junko Minagawa.

New episodes of Sailor Moon Crystal will be simulcast every Monday at 7: 35 AM Pacific.

I was fortunate enough to be invited by Cryptozoic Entertainment to visit their WonderCon booth and try out a prototype build of their upcoming project, Ghostbusters: The Board Game II. The roleplaying game will launch as a Kickstarter campaign on April 11.

Before we dive into the playthrough, let’s start with some background information. The original Ghostbusters: The Board Game also began as a Kickstarter and met its funding goal many, many times over. The fanbase was active and vocal during the development process and Cryptozoic took their feedback into consideration when creating the game.

One thing you will notice right away is that the art and monsters are all licensed. Sony Entertainment gave the team free reign with their licenses, including TV shows, toys, and comics. Each ghost and spirit is taken from that already-developed universe. The creators of IDW Publishing’s Ghostbusters comics provided the art used as a base for the squad’s character designs as well as wrote up the plots featured on the scenario cards.

Let’s talk about these scenario cards for a moment. One side features a little backstory write-up and the other shows a map describing how to layout the playing field at the start of the story. This is particularly interesting as it negates the need for a Game Master. It also allows you play to a single-player campaign (controlling all four Ghostbusters).

NOTE: Images are of a prototype build.
NOTE: Images are of a prototype build.

After arranging the game board to match what is shown on our chosen scenario card,  we all selected our characters. I played as Winston Zeddemore. Depending on which of the Ghostbusters you choose, you have different skills based on your level (which increases as you gain experience). Working together and utilizing characters’ skills effectively is the key to victory.

NOTE: Images are of a prototype build.
NOTE: Images are of a prototype build.

Notice how my character’s art is black and white? The card is actually two-sided, with a full-color illustration on the other. There are two different sides to designate your weapon’s attachment: a Slime Blower or a Proton Pack. The difference between the two comes into play when handling obstacles on the map. One is mostly used to remove ooze on the field while the other mainly is used to deal damage to ghosts. You are free to switch between the two on your turn but it will cost you one of your two precious maneuvers per turn.

NOTE: Images are of a prototype build.
NOTE: Images are of a prototype build.

There were several different ghosts in the scenario I played, one of which was the Street Creeper. The card explaining how the ghost will behave was a great example of the game being its own GM. Even the “random” element mentioned on the card is dealt with by way of a numbered directional board and a simple roll of the D8. Again, I can’t stress how awesome it was that licensed art was used for this game. It made the whole experience feel more authentic.

I was told that campaigns can last from one to four hours, depending on how many rounds you decide to play. I played just shy of an hour at WonderCon and I am sold. This is one Kickstarter campaign that I will definitely keep my eye on.

Kotobukiya’s booth at this year’s WonderCon was swarmed with fans taking pictures but that is to be expected. Cons are when Kotobukiya showcases prototypes of upcoming items along with announcements of figures in development. And this time was no different.

The Bride concept art - Kotobukiya

First is the next entry in Kotobukiya’s Bishoujo figure line, Kill Bill‘s The Bride. This figure is so new, they didn’t even have a prototype yet. Instead, they displayed its concept art.

Lucky Chloe - Kotobukiya

Also part of their Bishoujo line was Lucky Chloe from Tekken Tag Tournament. This figure is currently available for pre-order online. It is scheduled to release in August.

Spartan Athlon - Kotobukiya

From the ArtFX+ line is Halo‘s Spartan Athlon. You can pre-order this figure online with an expected May release.

warrior drone - Kotobukiya

The Alien Warrior Drone ArtFX+ was more than a little unsettling. It ships in April but you can still pre-order it here. Note: the tiny Alien dudes aren’t part of the package.

Kylo Ren prototype - Kotobukiya

An item that garnered a lot of attention was the prototype of the upcoming Kylo Ren ArtFX+ figure. It is always neat to see this portion of the design process. The finished product is available to pre-order online with an expected July release.

C3PO R2D2 BB8 - Kotobukiya

Building on the popularity of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Kotobukiya will also be releasing a set of ArtFX+ figures starring C-3PO, R2-D2, and BB-8. This item, while still listed on Kotobukiya’s online store, is currently sold out.

Captain Phasma and Storm Troopers - Kotobukiya

Positioned beside the Kylo Ren prototype were the Captain Phasma and First Order Stormtrooper ArtFX+ figures. I thought it was a nice touch that you could choose between a single First Order Stormtrooper or a two-pack.

And thus ends my list of highlights from Kotobukiya’s booth. Did I miss something? Let me know in the comments!

Creating the greatest combination since peanut butter and Nutella, anime giant Viz Media is partnering the United Talent Agency (also known as UTA) with plans to create a range of live-action programming  utilizing popular anime and manga licenses. And the timing couldn’t be more perfect, with Viz celebrating its 30th anniversary this summer. While no specific series has been mentioned at this time, it is safe to say that is a very exciting development.

Given that Viz Media has a veritable treasure trove of hit titles in its library, it will be interesting to see which ones are chosen. I would love to see Kaori Yuki’s Grand Guignol Orchestra in live-action form. Oh! Or Yuu Watase’s Alice 19th! The list goes on.

What titles do you want to see reimagined as live-action series?

Man, Square Enix Products knows the key to my heart and wallet: game-accurate plushes. The North American Square Enix Online Store recently listed two delightful stuffed toys based on Final Fantasy XIV minions, little companions for your in-game character: Fat Cat and Goobbue.

FFXIV Fat Cat cushion

Let’s take a look at the Fat Cat first. This cutie is 8 inches tall and described as “round and pillowy.” Details include little pink paw pads and a puffy nob tail. Check out the store listing to see more images of this darling. Fat Cat will ship June 29 of this year and is available for pre-order now for US$39.99.

Goobbue cushion

While just as lovable as Fat Cat, the Goobbue here is “flat and fluffy,” resembling more of a pillow than a plush. It is also much taller, measuring 21 and a quarter inches tall. I highly recommend checking out the toy’s store listing to see additional images of this gentle giant. Like the Fat Cat, Goobbue will also ship June 29 and is available to pre-order for the same price of US$39.99.

If you want to see the items in “the wild,” a dedicated post on the Final Fantasy XIV developers’ blog has a some fun with them.

What do you think of these two new toys? Are there any other minions you would like to see similar treatment?

[This review is based on a sample provided by the publisher.]

I admittedly don’t have much experience in the whole coming-of-age genre. But when it came time to review the first volume of Inio Asano’s GOODNIGHT PUNPUN, that didn’t seem to be much of a problem. This manga is completely unlike anything I have ever read. The story follows Punpun Punyama, a boy (who is portrayed as a cartoony bird) growing up in a dysfunctional household in Japan. Volume One covers elementary school life up until the beginning of the first year of middle school.

OYASUMI PUNPUN © 2007 Inio ASANO/SHOGAKUKANOYASUMI PUNPUN © 2007 Inio ASANO/SHOGAKUKAN

One of the first things you notice when reading is that, beyond Punpun and his family, every other character is drawn as a normal human. The one exception is God, who looks as though he may be a photograph of a afro-headed, bespectacled, smiling man. I can’t help feeling that there is a deeper meaning to that choice, perhaps to display a sort of hierarchy in Punpun’s reality. All the same, to see such a great contrast contained within a single page can be a bit jarring.

OYASUMI PUNPUN © 2007 Inio ASANO/SHOGAKUKAN

The majority of Punpun’s interactions in Volume One are with his Mother’s younger brother and his classmates, specifically Harumin, Komatsu, Shimizu, and his crush, Aiko. The design for these characters is to be applauded because they all felt like real people with real flaws. Punpun’s uncle is definitely not ready to take care of a child and says thoughtless things at times. Shimizu is portrayed as having some hallucinatory mental disorder, in which he sees and hears things others do not and has delusions. His friends call him a “liar” and often disregard the things he says.  And Aiko? Well, without spoiling too much, let’s say she has a different view on life then most.

OYASUMI PUNPUN © 2007 Inio ASANO/SHOGAKUKAN

Whoever handled the English translation did a stellar job. Each line reads as though as if it was originally written is English. The dialogue maintains the nuance I expect was in the original. I will say I am dying to know what Punpun’s prayer, “Dear God, Dear God, Tinkle Hoy,” was in Japanese.

Is GOODNIGHT PUNPUN for everyone? No. The story is, at several points, very upsetting and because it takes place in a real world setting, it resonates more. It deals with some very heavy themes and situations.  However, if thought-provoking manga set in the real world is your jam, you can’t go wrong with GOODNIGHT PUNPUN.

Grab your great sword and some traps and prepare to head to your favorite book supplier! Viz Media is releasing Monster Hunter: Flash Hunter in English. With Monster Hunter Generations releasing this Summer, the timing is perfect for the series to create a buzz in the manga scene. The series is written Keiichi Hikami with artwork by Shin Yamamoto.

Veterans of the games will be familiar with the story’s universe but for newcomers, here is what Viz Media has to say about the setting as well as a teaser for the first volume:

It is an age when monsters rule the world, soaring through the sky, treading the earth and filling the seas. Humanity survives on the fringes, relying on a special kind of hero to defend the people from danger – the Monster Hunters!

In the opening volume of the series, hunting giant man-eating beasts is no job for the weak-hearted, but along with courage, it takes skill and experience to be a good Hunter. It also takes good teamwork. Raiga and his comrades are experts now, but when they started down the path of the Monster Hunter, they lacked these qualities. When they head off to confront the dragon-like Queropeco, they quickly learn that this flaw could cost them dearly…

As a fan of the video game series, I am looking forward to this one. The games’ plots always seemed to take a backseat to the gameplay and multiplayer action. It will be a nice change of pace to experience a bonafide Monster Hunter story.

Look for Monster Hunter: Flash Hunter both in print and digital form (available on Nook, Kobo, Kindle, iBooks, comiXology, Google Play, BOOK WALKER, and the Viz Manga app) when the first volume releases April 12.

The love for Yacht Club Games’ Shovel Knight is still going strong (as well it should) and the thirst for merchandise is real. WeLoveFine started shipping out their musical Troupple King plush just a few days ago and of course, there is always the stuffed version of the titular Shovel Knight but what about the rest of the cast? According to a store email sent out today, two additional characters will be joining WeLoveFine’s exclusive plush collection:Plague Knight and Shield Knight!
PlagueKnightplush

Plague Knight, the star of the game’s expansion, Plague of Shadows, comes packaged with his raven-headed staff and alchemy pouch. Both items can be attached to his body via magnets on Plague Knight’s back, hip, and arms. The staff, when stuck to his back can serve as a stand to prop the fellow up for display.

shieldknightplush

Shovel Knight’s friend, Shield Knight comes with her trusty shield, which can be magnetically affixed to her back or either of her arms. She is the tallest plush in the collection, standing 12 inches in height.

Plague Knight and Shield Knight are available to pre-order and scheduled to ship July 7. Like their predecessors, each of these plushes will cost $28.

What Shovel Knight character would you like to see plush-ified?

Gayle Middleton and her family of Vamplets are no stranger to Kickstarter. Her Ghost Pony and Baby Undead Dragon, not to mention series two of the Vamplets plush line, all got their start on the crowdfunding site. They are now trying their hand at a non-stuffed medium by way of the Vamplets Mini Figures campaign.

The Mini Figures Series consists of seven pieces, one of which is exclusive to backers of the campaign. The figures range in height from two to three inches. The main four characters featured are Ghost Pony, Vampyre Baby Lily Rose, Baby Undead Dragon, and Werewolf Baby Howliss.

In addition to the standard, painted Ghost Pony, four clear variants will be made. The Ghost Pony “Trifecta of Terror” includes a glow-in-the-dark Graveyard Green Pony, Pandemonium Pink Pony, and Clear Ghost Pony. The Clear Ghost variant will only be available during the Kickstarter. The fourth Ghost Pony, Ice Ghost Pony, is extra-special and incredibly limited in edition. Only 24 of these toys will ever be made.

The campaign has 23 days left to go and needs a little more than $30,000 to make these nightmares a reality. You can find additional details and add a pledge of your own here.

Add this to the list of things I never thought would exist. It turns out Japan loves Ted, the wildly-inappropriate living teddy bear. Who knew? His movies are so popular over in the Land of the Rising Sun that Max Factory and Good Smile Company have developed a figma Ted, complete with a beer bottle and a bong. Yes, he comes with a mini-PVC bong; you can’t make this stuff up.045304fbd2c70eb4b749b7d9e393b4b1

Like all figma, the Ted figure is posable, with articulated joints, and has multiple expressions. To change Ted’s facial features, you switch out his muzzle part (he comes with laughing, smiling, and upset expressions) and move around his articulated eyebrows. He can sit, stand, and do several other poses with the help of the included figma stand. Ted is smaller than most figma, standing only 55 millimeters in height.

figma Ted is scheduled to ship this July for the price of ¥2,963. He is available to pre-order at the Good Smile Company Online Shop. Pre-orders close March 30 at 9 PM Japan Time.

What do you think of this addition to the figma line?

Known in Japan as Genei Ibun Roku #FE, the Fire Emblem- cross-Shin Megami Tensei Wii U RPG, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, heads to North America on June 24. Set in modern Japan, the game will feature original Japanese voice tracks with English subtitles.

I know what you are thinking: if is is set in modern times, where does Fire Emblem fit in? Iconic series characters like Chrom and Marth will be present in this game as sort of Persona-like characters that the main playable characters summon for battle.

Are you excited about this news? I certainly am!

During today’s Nintendo Direct, Bill Trinen announced that two free updates are heading to Wii U’s popular paint-shooter, Splatoon. The first update, available March 8, focuses on re-balancing gear as well as updating the matchmaking system. A later update, called “Sheldon’s Picks” (named after the weapon’s seller), will come packed with new weapon combos for you to enjoy.

WonderCon is set to take place in Los Angeles this month and many of us are still wondering what we should expect to spend our remaining money on. BeeFy & Co. (and its creator, Menh Voong) over at the exhibit hall’s booth #1331 delivered some of that news today! WonderCon will mark the release of the plush Totopoo – “Smile” Edition. For those unfamiliar, BeeFy & Co. is a brand that spans toys (both plush and vinyl as well as other mediums), fashion, and art prints. The majority of the plushes are from the “Adventures of Ryupoo” Collection, featuring stylized stuffed critters, some of which come with accessories.

The “Smile” Edition of Totopoo, modeled after My Neighbor Totoro, has a wide grin across his face. Like the other plushes, Totopoo stands 10 inches tall and will cost $25. He comes with a large fabric leaf embedded with a magnet so it can stick to his articulated head. Note that while this variant will debut at WonderCon, it is not exclusive to the event.

If you prefer your Totopoo to be the stoic type, a regular (not grinning) edition will be released at the Chicago Comic And Entertainment Expo (a.k.a. C2E2)  and Silicon Valley Comic Con.

Hulu recently announced their anime release lineup for March. The highlights include a title I am particularly excited about. Additional episodes of Sailor Moon‘s fifth and final story arc, Sailor Stars, will be airing in the United States for the first time (legally). Two newly subtitled episodes will air each week. Look forward to episodes 190 and 191 on March 7, episodes 192 and 193 on March 14, episodes 194 and 195 on March 21, and episodes 196 and 197 on March 28. To add to the excitement, Sailor Moon Season Four is available to watch in its entirety.

Joining Sailor Moon are Bleach and Naruto Shippuden. The final season of Bleach (episodes 355 to 366) will be available, dubbed and uncut, beginning March 27. Naruto fans can experience weekly simulcasts scheduled every Thursday throughout March, beginning March 10 with episode 451.

Which titles are you excited for?

Bibliophiles, have we got news for you! Yoshiki Tanaka’s famous science fiction series, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, will soon make its way to North American markets for the very first time. Coming to us by way of Haikasoru (a part of VIZ Media), the first volume, subtitled Dawn, releases March 8 on just about every platform imaginable.

The story is set in the 36th Century, with mankind having colonized all across the galaxy. Out in space, a war is being waged between The Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance. The first volume focuses on the conflict between Reinhard von Lohengramm, an admiral of The Galactic Empire, and Yang Wen-li of the Free Planets Alliance. Reinhard dreams of becoming an supreme but benevolent ruler of the galaxy by overthrowing the powers that be. Meanwhile, Yang’s desire to preserve democracy and defeat the Empire may come at the cost of his ethics.

There will be a print copy (MSRP of US$15.99) of Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Vol. 1: Dawn as well an eBook edition, available from Amazon’s Kindle store, the Apple iBooks store, Barnes and Noble’s Nook Book store, the Kobo eBooks store, and the Google Play store. If you prefer to hear rather than read the story, Simon & Schuster Audio will have an audiobook edition (MSRP of US$23.99) read by Tim Gerard Reynolds.

Yoshiki Tanaka is also known for The Heroic Legend of Arslan, a fantasy novel series that has seen two anime adaptions as well as several video game titles. Perhaps if Legend of the Galactic Heroes sells well, Arslan might see similar treatment. That is just a wish of mine.

The latest release for Good Smile Company’s  Nendoroid posable figures is En Yufuin from Cute High Earth Defense Clube LOVE! (Binan Koukou Chukyuboeibu LOVE! in Japanese). Part of the company’s Orange Rouge line that caters to female fans, the figure of En-chan a.k.a. Battle Lover Cerulean is perfectly timed; the second season of his anime was recently announced.

Nendoroid En Yufuin stands about 100 millimeters tall and is packaged with several interchangeable parts. He comes with his Love Stick weapon along with a special arm part to hold it. Other arm-pose pieces include the finger-point and heart-symbol, both used at the end of the team’s transformation sequence. En-chan also comes with three facial expressions: “standard,” smiling, and sighing. My favorite accessories are definitely the bath house towel and bucket that he wears when he visits the Kurotamayu Bath House. You can see additional photos on Kahotan’s Blog.

You can pre-order Nendoroid En Yufuin now for the price of ¥5,000. If you pre-order him at the Good Smile Company online shop, a Nendoroid Plus Rubber Strap of En will be included with your order. Keep in mind, orders close March 16 at 9PM Japan time.

Any fans thinking of picking up this guy?

Nintendo’s famous mustachioed plumber has headlined so many games, I wouldn’t be able to list them all in one or two breaths. A share of those titles are role-playing games and the latest addition, Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam for the Nintendo 3DS, attempts to build on its predecessors by making use of new in-game mechanics as well as hardware functionality.

3DS_MarioLuigiPJ_JanRPG_SCRN_09

3DS_MarioLuigiPJ_JanRPG_SCRN_07

The game’s plot focuses on the aftermath of the citizens from the world of Paper Mario (another fine RPG series, not counting Super Star) being spread higgledy-piggledy throughout the Mushroom Kingdom. This, as you might imagine, causes some issues. Two-dimensional duplicates of baddies like Bowser and Kamek now run amok. Thankfully, they are joined by Paper Mario, Paper Peach, more Paper Toads than you can shake a glue stick at.

Piranha_Smash

3DS_MarioLuigiPJ_NovemberDirect_SCRN_02_bmp_jpgcopy

With Paper Mario on your team, you have control of three characters rather than the usual two. This is all well and good for the overworld; Paper Mario’s flat frame can be manipulated to get around many of the obstacles created by the terrain. But in battle, it feels like too much.

3DS_MarioLuigiPJ_JanRPG_SCRN_01

In the Mario and Luigi series, battles are a very hands-on experience. Not only do you need to put in the correct button command when prompted on the screen (which buttons and such vary with each character) but you are expected to dodge/counter your enemies’ oncoming assaults. With just characters to manage, it was fine but with the addition of Paper Mario, keeping track of who is being targeted and when can be tough.

3DS_MarioLuigiPJ_JanRPG_SCRN_08

3DS_MarioLuigiPJ_NovemberDirect_SCRN_09_bmp_jpgcopy

One new part of battles I did enjoy was the additional of the Battle Cards. You gain access to your first set a few hours into the game. Using the cards during an enemy encounter can cause effects like damage to certain enemies, boosting stats, or even increasing the rewards your reap post-battle.

The Battle Cards are also where the amiibo functionality is. When you use a special card item and then scan a compatible amiibo, you are granted a special Battle Card unique to the character the amiibo is based on. These Battle Cards cannot be obtained any other way. What I thought was nifty was that those special Battle Cards are stored on the amiibo, not the game save, and you can unlock more than one Battle Card per amiibo (24 to be exact). Simply scanning your desired amiibo during a battle will allow you access to the Battle Cards stored on it. The icing on the cake are the illustrations on these special cards. I only saw Yoshi’s and Bowser’s but, judging from those two, I can tell you that the card contain images from the entire range of the character’s history (note the Yarn Yoshi from Yoshi’s Woolly World along with Yoshi’s Island illustrations in the screenshot above).

3DS_MarioLuigiPJ_NovemberDirect_SCRN_05_bmp_jpgcopy

Besides the issues with battles, the portions I liked the least were surrounding the giant papercraft. I can’t tell which part I disliked more: catching all those Paper Toads required to upgrade the thing or the actual battles. Actually, I take that back; it was the Toad part. Let’s take them one at a time. Rounding up the Paper Toads are set up as missions in the Lakitu Info Center. These quests are repetitive and just not fun. It would be one thing if they were “side quests” but they are obligatory.

And why do you need to collect a bunch of Paper Toads? To have them make these giant papercraft that your team fights with against Bowser’s own giant papercraft creation. They play like arena tank battles. Your attacks are charged by standing on a base and performing a little rhythm mini-game. Because that makes perfect sense. I don’t think I would have minded it as much as I did if they didn’t take so dang long. It takes several rounds to get to the Boss and even then, physical getting near the enemy takes a chunk of time. Papercraft Kamek’s teleporting especially drove me nuts.
3DS_MarioLuigiPJ_JanRPG_SCRN_03

I give Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam a 3/5. It had with potential but ultimately fell flat. It isn’t a bad game by any means, but it could have been awesome had they left certain features out.

Note: This review is based on a promotional copy of the game provided by Nintendo.

The New York Toy Fair opened today but that didn’t stop Funko from giving fans a preview of some of their booth’s exciting displays. One of those displays that is creating a buzz is a set of Funko POP! figures made in the likenesses of Sailor Moon‘s iconic heroes.

Photos show figures of Sailor Moon, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, Sailor Venus, and Tuxedo Mask. Moon and Venus each come with their feline companion, Luna and Artemis. According to the booth’s placard, these toys should release April 2016. While their official prices were not shown, I imagine they cost the same as a typical POP! figure ($12.50).

What do you think of the Sailor Senshi in this style? Are you planning on picking up any of them?

A popular feline character from the comic series Saga will get her turn in the limelight (emerald-light?) when the Lying Cat talking plush debuts at Emerald City Comic Con with an exclusive variant.

The Lying Cat plush stands a whopping 17 and a half-inches and looks absolutely huggable. Give the sun on her collar a squeeze and you’ll hear Lying Cat’s well-known line: “LYING!” Both the standard and the variant editions will include this feature.

So what makes this variant special? The variant Lying Cat’s collar is green, most likely to tie into the whole “Emerald City” part of ECCC. She will also have a limited edition ear tag.

Dying for the variant and can’t make it to the con? ReedPOP, the creator of ECCC, has you covered. The Lying Cat Talking Plush – ECCC Exclusive Variant is currently stocked in their online store. You can purchase her now for $35. I imagine supplies are limited so I wouldn’t sit on this one.

What do you think of this exclusive? Are attending Emerald City Comic Con? Let us know in the comments!

There are many ways to express love: a hug, a kiss, flowers, and chocolates. But if you want to make someone feel extra-special, the ladies at the nail salon suggest going with something unexpected. And nothing says “unexpected” like bath tub filled with blobfish plushes!

Hashtag Collectibles, makers of such toys as the Grumpy Cat Puppet and the original Stuffed Blobfish, have taken the dream of floating amongst a sea of squishy, pink cuteness and made it a reality with their “Bath Time Blobby” special. You have the option of selecting the “Large” variety, which includes eight large Blobfish (the same size as the original plush), or the “Mini,”containing 50 mini Blobfish (matching the single mini found here). These bundles are sold at the discounted price of $280 (value of $320) and $649.99 (value of $749.50), respectively.

If the price tag gives you a bit of sticker-shock, it is nice to note that 10 percent from every piece of Blobfish merchandise sold is donated to the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. And if you are flying solo this Valentine’s Day (no shame in that), you can always cuddle up with a Blobfish of your very own. I love mine. His name is Blobbington and he is a very special boy.

Let the celebration begin! Capcom’s classic RPG, Breath of Fire III, is coming to the North American PSN Store this month on a yet-to-be revealed date. The title, priced at US$9.99, will playable on PSP, PS Vita, and PlayStation TV. Breath of Fire III will be joining its successor, Breath of Fire IV, which has been in the Store for a long time now.

No further details were provided but this is more than enough to get me thoroughly hyped. Also, I am going to put this out there right now: My fairy village can beat up your fairy village.

Will you be downloading Breath of Fire III? Do you have fond memories of the game? Let us know in the comments!

Up for some moon-gazing? Take a gander at the recently revealed key art for the next season of Sailor Moon Crystal! As those following the anime know, the series will be entering its third season. Scheduled to air in Japan this Spring, it will follow the Death Busters Arc from the manga. If the two previous seasons are any indication, a simulcast of the show should be available. However, that is yet to be confirmed.

The actresses tapped to voice the three new Senshi were announced in a live broadcast on January 27. Junko Minagawa will be the new Sailor Uranus, joined by Sayaka Ohara and Fujii Yukiyo as Sailor Neptune and Sailor Saturn, respectively.

Who is planning to watch the next season of Sailor Moon Crystal? I know I am seriously psyched for it!

I would wager that pretty much anyone who watched anime in the 90s has at least heard of Rumiko Takahashi’s martial arts comedy gem, Ranma 1/2. The series’ characters are a focus in a new S.H. Figuarts line, the most recent additions being the female version of the titular fighter, Ranma followed by the Chinese Amazon, Shampoo.

Ranma in female form (or as Kuno would call him, “The Pigtailed Girl”) will come packaged with an articulated body, a stand for posing, four interchangeable facial expressions, a sword, a fighting staff, a kettle, and “chudo-n” special effects piece. This figure will cost ¥5,184 and release January 30.

Shampoo, one of Ranma’s many suitors, is scheduled to release in June of this year. No other details were given. But from looking over these product shots, we can gather that she will at least come with a bowl of ramen and a delivery box from her grandmother’s Cat Café.

It looks like North American gamers awaiting Bravely Second: End Layer for the Nintendo 3DS (plus the 2Ds and New Nintendo 3DS) will only have to wait about three more months to get their hands on the title, when it releases on April 15. The Japanese role-playing game is the sequel to Bravely Default.

And much like its predecessor, the title will also see a Collector’s Edition (shown below) available for purchase, also releasing on April 15 . It’s suggested retail price is $69.99. What’s inside this special package? Collectors can look forward to a 10-song soundtrack, a 250-page art book, and the game (of course). Sadly, we will not be getting the mini-figure of Agnes that comes bundled with the European and Japanese Collector’s Editions.

Want to get a head-start on your journey? A special demo, entitled Bravely Second: End Layer – The Ballad of the Three Musketeers, will make its way to the eShop prior to the title’s release. The demo will feature a unique side story not found in the full game. And just as importantly, StreetPass tags and certain other bonuses acquired from the demo will transfer over to the full game.

Wonder Festival 2016 Winter begins February 7 in Japan and announcements of lovely new toys are popping up on the web. Good Smile Company and Max Factory always bring special items with them to the event and this year is no exception.

The headliner is of course, Snow Miku, a wintery-themed Hatsune Miku. Every year, the Vocaloid’s seasonal attire is designed and voted on by fans. This year’s theme was “Winter Sports in Hokkaido” and the winning artist, Kotatsu Otogi, envisioned Miku in a snow outfit topped off with a cap resembling a snow owl. The design was transformed into a Nendoroid as well as a figma.

Nendoroid Snow Miku: Snow Owl ver. has a very special feature. Each of the figure’s snow owl-like ski caps is hand-knit and is embellished with natural wooden buttons. Besides this accessory, Snow Miku comes packaged with her snow bunny friend, Yukine, a removable scarf, and a snow ball plus three interchangeable facial expressions (energetic smile, playful giggle, and eyes shut). And since the theme is “Winter Sports,” she is equipped with skis, poles, snow goggles, and an extra body with a snowboard. This figure’s base special-themed as well, covered in white snow with blue flakes. You can see additional images of these accessories here.

Nendoroid Snow Miku: Snow Owl ver. costs ¥5,093 and stands about 100 millimeters tall.

figma Snow Miku: Snow Owl ver.‘s articulated joints allow for more poses. Like her Nendoroid counterpart, the figma comes with the rabbit Yukine, skis with poles, snow googles, and a snowboard. Her scarf and neck warmer are removable, if you would rather she pose without them. Her three packaged facial expressions are an energetic smile, a playful face, and a winking one. Note that figma Snow Miku’s stand is not themed like the Nendoroid’s is. You can get an overall look at her accessories here.

figma Snow Miku: Snow Owl ver. costs ¥5,556 and stands approximately 135 millimeters tall.

The Nendoroid and figma of Snow Miku: Snow Owl ver. aren’t available to purchase online yet but should be soon. But if you are in Japan for Wonder Festival 2016 Winter, limited amounts of each figure are available to purchase. There will be 3000 pieces of the Nendoroid and 2000 of the figma.

Do you plan on picking up one or both of these figures? Is there one you like better? Let us know in the comments!

The North American release date for the Pokémon-flavored fighting game, Pokkén Tournament for Wii U, was announced this morning with a surprise: the N.A. release precedes the Japanese one! Pokémon fans in North America can expect the game on March 18 while Japan will have to wait until April 28.
