Briefly: Lego Marvel Super Heroes has been out for some time now, and along with the game being absolutely excellent (Travellers Tales’ best Lego title by far), it also boasts an extremely epic roster of over 300 Marvel characters.

If 300 characters weren’t quite enough for you, the developer is getting ready to launch a few more. To celebrate, here’s a new, Thor centric trailer for the title, emphasizing some of the new Asgardian characters that are about to join the fight.

Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know how much you’re enjoying the game (even though we already know that it’s a lot).

Briefly: The first trailer for Traveller’s Tales’ Lego The Hobbit has just debuted online.

The game, which was revealed late last month, takes “players of all ages on an unforgettable interactive journey through the first two films in The Hobbit Trilogy, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug.”

According to Traveller’s Tales’, “Players will follow Bilbo Baggins as he is recruited by the Wizard Gandalf to aid Thorin Oakenshield and his Company of Dwarves. Bilbo leaves the comforts of the Shire on a journey through Middle-earth to help the Dwarves reclaim their lost Kingdom of Erebor within the Lonely Mountain. Along the way, he is introduced to ravenous Trolls, dangerous Orcs and, of course, Gollum and his precious Ring. Players will utilize and combine the Dwarves’ unique abilities — often with hilarious results — to solve the most diverse Quests of any LEGO videogame to date.”

All of the Lego titles in the past have been an absolute blast, and I can’t wait to see how Middle Earth turns out. The announcement does leave a few questions unanswered however. First, is there a second game on its way to complete the story? And second, how does a Lego man wear a ring?

Take a look at the first trailer below, and let us know what you think! Lego The Hobbit will launch on PS Vita, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, 3DS, and Windows sometime in 2014!

Briefy: From Brian Anderson, the creator of Lego Breaking Bad, comes Lego The Last of Us, the next game that will never, ever, ever (ever) exist, even though it would be totally incredible if it did:

You’d play the hell out of it, wouldn’t you? At least the real game is getting some sweet DLC, right?

UPDATE: Warner Bros. Interactive has officially announced Lego: The Hobbit for pretty much every console imaginable. Check out the press releae below.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, TT Games and The LEGO Group set off on a new journey to create LEGO® The Hobbit™
Join Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf the Grey, Thorin Oakenshield and company on their quest to the Dwarven Kingdom in the next LEGO videogame coming 2014

London, UK – November 25, 2013 – Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, TT Games and The LEGO Group today announced LEGO ® The Hobbit™, the latest addition to the popular LEGO videogame series that brings to life the enthralling and legendary stories from Oscar ®-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit Trilogy. The game will be available in spring 2014 for the Xbox One all-in-one games and entertainment system and Xbox 360 games and entertainment systems from Microsoft, PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment systems and PlayStation®Vita handheld entertainment system., the Wii U™ system from Nintendo, the Nintendo 3DS™ hand-held system, as well as Windows PC and Mac.

LEGO The Hobbit will be based on the first two films of The Hobbit Trilogy, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and the upcoming The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, a production of New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures (MGM), opening worldwide beginning December 13, 2013. Following the storyline of the first two films, LEGO The Hobbit will take players on quests throughout Middle-earth, joining Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf the Grey, and Thorin Oakenshield and Company in their exciting adventures toward the Dwarven Kingdom of Erebor.

“We are thrilled to depict the characters and environments of Peter Jackson’s Middle-earth in LEGO form with the LEGO The Hobbit videogame,” said Tom Stone, Managing Director, TT Games. “Our family-friendly take on these thrilling adventures will have kids and parents playing and laughing together as they build and explore in LEGO Middle-earth.”

In LEGO The Hobbit, kids and families will be able to take on the form of their favorite Hobbit characters, including Bilbo, Gandalf, and all of the Dwarves: Thorin, Fíli, Kíli, Óin, Glóin, Dwalin, Balin Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, Dori, Nori and Ori. Each has his own special – and quite hilarious – ability: For instance, Bombur can be used as a trampoline that enables his companions “belly-bounce” out of danger!

Players will visit key locations from the films, including Bag End, Bilbo’s Hobbit-hole in Hobbiton, trek through the treacherous High Pass over The Misty Mountains, and explore the depths of Goblin-town, Mirkwood and Rivendell. Along the way, players will solve countless puzzles, partake in Treasure Quests and battle with Orcs, Trolls and fouler things. They will also be able to mine for gems, discover loot from enemies, and craft powerful magical items or build immense new LEGO structures.

Briefly: Is there a Lego The Hobbit game incoming?

First of all, I sure as hell hope so; the Lego games are all fantastic (especially the just-released Lego Marvel Super Heroes), and a new title set in The Hobbit universe would be no different. Secondly, it looks bloody likely unless this leaked ad turns out to be fake.

Brickset member “sidersdd” posted the following photos, found on the back of the instructions of the 2014 The Hobbit sets.

We won’t know if it’s real until the sets officially release, but until then, bask in the leaked ad below, and let us know if you’re excited! We’ll be sure to let you know if this one goes official!

Briefly: Warner Bros. has just debuted an excellent new character poster for next year’s highly anticipated The Lego Movie.

The latest one-sheet features the caped crusader himself, who will be voiced by Will Arnett in the film.

If you haven’t seen the film’s trailer yet, I’d highly recommend that you check it out, as this thing looks wonderful. In any case, take a look at the new poster below, and let us know what you think! The Lego Movie hits theatres on February 7th, 2014!

Batman Character Poster For 'The Lego Movie'

The original 3D computer animated story follows Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world.

Briefly: After waiting for what seems like forever, Traveller’s Tales Lego Marvel Super Heroes is finally just a day away from launch.

The developer today released a launch trailer for the game, which is narrated by Stan Lee, and definitely sells me on the title. The plot sounds cool, the heroes look great, and Traveller’s Tales classic Lego gameplay is wonderful.

Take a look at the new trailer below, and let us know if you’ll be picking it up! Lego Marvel Super Heroes is available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, 3DS, Vita, and PC (with Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions set to follow).

Over the weekend of NYCC 2013, Marvel announced that the playable demo for Lego Marvel Super Heroes will be available later this week for Xbox 360 and PS3. If you’re impatient, like I am, you can head on over to the official homepage at Lego to download a PC trial version right now!

In the demo, you can expect to see heroes such as The Hulk and Iron Man take it to the villains Sandman and Abomination. Demos are suppose to give you a good idea if you’ll end up liking the game enough to purchase when it releases. When Lego Marvel Super Heroes launches on October 22, 2013 for every current-gen system with the PS4 and Xbox One version following in November, you won’t need a demo to tell you that this will be a game you’ll want to play.

Lego Marvel Super Heroes

I was bored today, and with my birthday just around the bend I thought I would check out what was new in the world of geek toys. I’m always looking for fun Doctor Who or Walking Dead stuff, so after some research decided to share some of the new items with everyone out there on Geekscape.

1347_walking_dead_plush

Walking Dead SD Plush Dolls ($9.99): Who wouldn’t want a Rick Grimes plush doll? Okay okay, we all know the doll most of you would want to cuddle is Daryl. But come on, he wouldn’t cuddle! These are a neat collectible to go along with the show.

12fc_winchester_tavern_pint_glass

Winchester Tavern Pint Glass ($9.99): For everyone who went out to see The World’s End, I thought this was a cool one to share. A pint glass from the infamous Winchester from the film Shaun of the Dead would be a fun addition to your glass cupboard, don’t you think? If you’re anything like me you already have tons, but one more can’t hurt. Or can it?

f33c_star_trek_shield_ice_cube_tray

Star Trek Starfleet Ice Tray ($9.99): Yes, ice trays get boring, but I haven’t seen a lot of interesting Star Trek stuff in a while. Is it worth the trouble of making room in the freezer, and then making sure you stack the tray on something level just to have Star Trek ice cubes? I think we all know the answer to that.

1189_dw_50th_anniv_12pack_shot_glasses

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Shot Glasses ($59.99): Come on, it’s the 50th anniversary of the show! Shots for everyone! No really though…these are cool little glasses that have artistic images of the twelve doctors. Fun for decoration or to use!

1162_mlp_dr_whooves_exclusive

My Little Pony Doctor Whooves ($14.99): Combine My Little Pony with Doctor Who and what do you get? Apparently this. He resembles Matt Smith as The Doctor and glows in the dark. Why not, right?

f46e_lego_starwars_c3po_keylight

Lego C3PO Star Wars Keychain Light ($11.99): If you know me at all, or you’ve been reading my posts, you should know by now I have a certain soft spot for everything Lego. So of course I have to add this item. It’s fun, Lego and actually has a use. Although admittedly it’s probably the most expensive keychain you’ll ever purchase.

1407_space_invaders_jenga

Jenga Space Invaders ($29.99): Jenga stresses me out a bit when I play, but I would deal with the pressure to play with this set. Space Invaders? Come on…it looks like a blast. Each player also has their own invader. The object is to get him down in the game. Not sure how it works, but sounds like fun.

I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did! I’d like to hear from you readers: what’s the best toy or collectible you’ve ever bought?

Briefly: Can Lego Marvel Super Heroes just come out already?

Traveller’s Tales has just released a short new trailer for the game, featuring none other than Stan Lee himself. I didn’t think I could be any more excited for the title, but seeing Stan swinging around simple makes me want the even more.

Seriously, this game looks awesome. All of the previous Lego titles have been an absolute blast, but throw Traveller’s Tales tried-and-true style, humour, and gameplay into a title that spans the entire Marvel universe, and we could have the very best Lego game yet.

Take a look at the new trailer below, and let us know what you think! The game is set to release on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, 3DS, Vita, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC this Fall!

Briefly: This is going to be incredible.

Sure, we’ve already seen plenty of videos and screenshots of Traveller’s Tales wonderful looking Lego Marvel Super Heroes. The developer has just debuted a story trailer for the game, and surprisingly, it’s even more exciting than anything we’ve seen thus far.

Seriously, this game looks awesome. All of the previous Lego titles have been an absolute blast, but throw Traveller’s Tales tried-and-true style, humour, and gameplay into a title that spans the entire Marvel universe, and we could have the very best Lego game yet.

When The Simpsons debuted in 1989, a lot of parents (mine included) were wary of letting their children watch the rambunctious show. But I remember every Sunday night, the playgrounds would empty out and we would run to our homes in time to catch the show. I was allowed to watch, mostly because my parents were fans of The Tracey Ullman Show, where the nutty family originally debuted with shorts.

As much as I hate to write two Lego articles in a row, I can’t help but be excited for the big Lego announcement this week. The Simpsons will be released in Lego form sometime in 2014, and while my bank account may not be looking forward to it, I surely am.

Personally I’d rather see The Muppets in Lego form (A Lego Cuusoo member has created a set and is gathering votes as I write this) seeing Bart, Homer and the other regulars will be so much fun. I’m also curious to see which other Springfield locals are released. While I’m sure characters like Krusty will be made, I’d love to see a little Hans Moleman, Comic Book Guy and some of the smaller characters in Lego form.

l.simpsons cast n couch

Ultimately, these sets will be released, but much to the dismay of SOME Lego fans. Some fans began speaking out against the sets, saying the show isn’t as kid friendly as the other Lego genres. But I fail to see how this is any more offensive than some of the lines in Avengers, or even those sets based on the darker Batman films.

And while we’re talking Legos, the Lego Ghostbusters fan-created set quickly gathered the 10,000 votes it needed to be considered as a Lego set. The question now is if Lego can afford the licensing, and the hope that they won’t have to get Bill Murray to sign off on the set. Just kidding.

When you are a child of the 80s there are always those memories you look back on and really cherish. We all wanted our own alien to hide from the government, just like we hoped to someday race towards a slowly closing door, just make it through, and then reach back and pull our hat out just in time. And, of course, we hoped to someday feel the wind blow through our hair from atop our very own hoverboard.

When we had a toy battle, it was all out war. Optimus Prime would crash through a Lego wall and destroy not only the Decepticons, but also Skeletor, Gargamel and Cobra Commander.

So when I heard there was a Lego Back to the Future set coming out on August 1st, my inner child went nuts. I had to have it. The set premiered at SDCC this year, and while those lucky few who found one in their hands were asking $70+ for it on Ebay, I decided as exciting as it is, I could wait until the official release this week. And here it is.

lego-back-to-the-future

The best part of this set was how it came about. After a bit of research I found it was a Lego CUUSOO set, and I wondered what that meant. Turns out it’s an ongoing project by those clever people over at Lego to give fans the chance to get their own ideas made into sets. It’s simple (no, not really). Fans come up with an idea for a set, create a prototype, and post it over at Lego.CUUSOO.com and see if they can get 10,000 people to support it. Every month, creators look at every set that recieves enough support, and if they like the idea, it gets made. And then the creator gets 1% of the sales!

So getting back to the Back to the Future set, it is outstanding. I expected it to be one of those overpriced sets, somewhere around $49.99 (or even more), but it’s only $35, which is a fair price for such a cool set. It comes with parts to create any of the different versions of the DeLorean, plus the added bonus of seeing Dr. Emmett Brown and Marty McFly as minifigures. It even comes with Marty’s skateboard! Sure, I’d rather the hoverboard, but what can I do, right? The doors open like a real DeLorean and the wheels even fold up for flight mode.

lego-unveils-back-to-the-future-time-machine-set-2

I guess what has me most excited about this isn’t just the fact that they took something from the 1980s instead of all of the high-tech toys coming out today. It’s also the anticipation of the possibility of any other classic 1980s films being picked up and made into official Lego sets. Who wouldn’t want to see a Peter Venkman vs. Slimer set, including all of the other Ghostbusters, the firehouse and of course the Ecto1? And if this can be made, why not a Big set with Tom Hanks playing the giant floor piano? Or even better…Fezzik, Inigo and Vizzini carrying Buttercup up the Cliffs of Insanity with Westley chasing them up the rope? The possibilities become endless when a toy creator like Lego is willing to listen to their fans.

And for those of you who might be wondering, yes, the DeLoreon comes with a flux capacitor.

Briefly: We’re finally approaching the fall release date of Traveller’s Tales highly anticipated Lego Marvel Super Heroes, and the developer has released a cool new character trailer for the title.

Hot off the presses and blowing up the internet is this brand new trailer for the upcoming Lego movie. Now you’re probably thinking to yourself ” A movie…. about Lego?”. Yeah I was thinking the same thing, then I watched the trailer. If you’ve ever played a Lego game, that genuine funny you feel when you play is perfectly captured in this trailer.

The Lego movie comes out February 7, 2014 and stars Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, Alison Brie, Charlie Day, Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman.

How’s everyone liking all this pre-E3 news so far?

Via GameTrailers, Travellers Tales has just released an awesome new trailer for the upcoming Lego Marvel Super Heroes. The game has been kept under wraps for quite some time, with only small peeks and teasers being revealed. This new trailer gives us a much better look at the game, including some major plot elements. Lego Marvel Super Heroes hits consoles later this year!

Traveller’s Tales is doing a great job at keeping this one under wraps.

The developer has just released a new teaser for the upcoming Lego Marvel Super Heroes. The preview is short but sweet, showing off just a few of the heroes you’ll be able to play in the game. Very little footage from the actual game has been released, so while we know how well Lego Marvel Super Heroes will play (based on all of the other awesome Lego video games), I’m beginning to wonder if there’s something new and exciting in store for us.

Watch the new teaser below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the game. Lego Marvel Super Heroes is set to hit consoles later this year!

This is insanely impressive, and something that really, really deserves to be seen.

A guy named Brian Anderson just published his first video to YouTube (at least on this channel). It’s an original work that takes the world of Breaking Bad… and combines it with the Traveller’s Tales developed line of LEGO video games. Need I say more?

There are spoilers abound (for seasons 1 through 4), so if you haven’t seen the show (and are planning to), I would hold off on this one. Everyone else, go to town, and let us know what you think!

Amazing, right?

Earlier this year, Lego and Marvel announced Lego Marvel Super Heroes. The Lego series of video games really needs no introduction; titles like Lego Batman, Lego Indiana Jones, and Lego Harry Potter have been pleasing kids, adults, and fans for years.

This Fall, the hat tips towards Marvel fans. Marvel Lego Super Heroes will release on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii U, Vita, 3DS, and PC later this year. GameTrailers today released the first gameplay video for the title, which unsurprisingly looks fantastic.

Most geeks will remember Mark Webber as playing Stephen Stills in Edgar Wright’s ‘Scott Pilgrim VS The World’, but on this episode we barely talk Scott Pilgrim at all (sorry)! We spend most of it talking about Mark’s career, his new movie ‘The End of Love’ and his life before acting. How did he avoid becoming a Hollywood jerk? How has raising a child changed his view of video games and Star Wars? Plus, would he ever turn down a superhero or Star Wars movie? This interview rolls deep so get ready for it! And of course, my wife Laura calls in to give me some grief!

‘The End of Love’ love opens  in theaters today in Los Angeles and New York. For more information, visit the film’s website.

Not long ago it was revealed that Wang Xuequi would be joining the cast of the highly-anticipated Marvel Studios film as Chen Lu the alias of Radioactive Man. While using the character in a LEGO set doesn’t necessarily mean the charcter will indeed appear in the film, there have been numerous rumors of his appearance that even include a rumor of him appearing post-credits with an introduction to Ant-Man in the MCU. Guess we’re going. to have to wait and see if these rumors end up being true when the upcoming threequel hits theaters on May 3rd.

Can’t get enough of the LEGO video games? Need more? Well, you’re getting more. Marvel Entertainment and LEGO are teaming up to bring you LEGO Marvel Super Heroes this fall, a video game based on the LEGO toy line of the same name. Check out the full press release below.

Did you that Lego Batman had a movie coming out?

I didn’t, so it was a pleasant surprise today when the first trailer was released! The movie looks largely the same as last year’s Lego Batman 2 however, so for anyone that has played the game, I’m not sure how exciting the film will be.

In any case, I’m sure that kids and Batman fans that haven’t played the game will have a blast.

Check out the trailer below, and let us know what you think!

Fan Expo has been around in some form since 1995, but I feel  they really hit a home run on organization this year. Having said that, with an 8 year old in tow I had a very specific agenda this year: is Fan Expo too old for an 8 year old? Like most boys his age he loves nearly everything Fan Expo has to offer. What does it have you ask? Well it includes The Comic Book Expo, Anime Expo, Science Fiction Expo,  Horror Expo, and Gaming Expo.  With this many Expos rolled into one it’s easily the largest of it’s kind in Canada and is now one of the largest in the world. Not bad for the tiny population of Canada to cobble together something so big. Because of the size, logistics can be extremely hard to organize, but Hobbystar has really nailed it and line ups moved quickly and smoothly. Last year they had really improved the line situation and I think I waited about 5 minutes, this year I didn’t wait at all. Taking a child through the shortish lines was a dream compared to something like taking our little guy to an amusement park.

Fan Expo rolled into Toronto on August 27th with all the wonderful promises it’s alway brought us, lots of panels to see, lots of things to buy, lots of autographs to be had. Oh, and the cosplay, the never ending cosplay is as wonderful as ever. This year I went with my 8 year old son for the first time and it really gave me a new view of the entire event. I’ve passed the torch onto this little guy and he grabbed a hold of it with both hands… dressed as a ninja of course.

While none of us geeks want to talk about marketing, the fact is that it’s the mighty dollar that creates the investment to make many of the things we like happen. The rise of marketing to geeks is not something new, we’ve been talking about mainstream geek culture for at least the last 15 years. Marketing companies finally figured out that all those kids living in their parents basements had disposable cash. A market like that brings investment and with investment comes better quality in some cases, and in other cases it brings a flood of low end but sometimes high value products.  A lot of movies and comics that are out there are for kids and young adults. Some of the more expensive items are for full on adults like myself who have embraced their childhood passion for movies, toys, video games and comics. Of course our wives might call it arrested development, but in my infinite wisdom, I think of it as the stuff I like to read and watch when I have 5 minutes away from my son. The thing that I’ve been noticing lately though is that some of those big ticket items for parents are actually for the kids of those parents. What I’m saying is that we’ve come full circle, there are some insanely great expensive toys that only someone with means could afford, but only someone who is 7 or 8 would really enjoy. I think the idea is that parents are supposed to buy these toys and live out their second childhood through their kids.

Fan Expo has typically focused on the adults, but this year I noticed more children there, and there appeared to be more booths focused on the kids as well. Something I really appreciated was that Hobbystar offers a free coupon for kids between 7 and 12 accompanied by a paying adult. It’s $10 if no adult is present and it’s completely free for kids 6 and under. This is all good because they know we’re going to spend our dough on their vendors, and if the vendors are happy they keep Hobbystar happy. It’s all one big happy circle of life.

I’ve yet to meet a child that was not into comic books, so the comic area was certainly of interest to our little dude. The Horror Expo might be out depending on the age, but there’s a fair number of kid friendly booths in the Horror area as well. Nothing is as wonderful as all the little Cthulu for kids books and figures they had to offer.

From the get go I skipped over the panels, they’re not something a child is going to want to get into, but he loved all the costumes so we’d walk past the lines in order for him to have a good view of everybodys attire. We spent ages going through the lego areas, the various action figures and the models also went down well. Thing was that it wasn’t until we got to the boutique art places that I really saw my son come alive. So many wonderful artists for him to ponder over. You can see all the comics and figures all sorts of other places, but this one of a kind type thing that you can actually purchase kind of blew his mind.  The only thing I’d wished was that there was more room in the aisles, but all in all things moved ok, and I certainly can’t fault the artists and vendors for drawing such a great crowd.

Overall I think that this year’s Fan Expo was a complete success, and if you’re a parent wanting to take your child you should really give this a green light. It’s something they’ll be talking about afterwards for weeks.

I’ve been feeling guilty about something for the past month or so… just about the amount of time that we’ve had this great new website. And now I’ve got to get it off my chest.

Confession: We paid for this website, all of our fantastic coder Paul’s hard work, in Legos.

That’s right. Legos. It’s not our fault. I tried to give him money. But when I asked Paul what he wanted for building the site, Paul, being the modest, sweet guy that he is,  just replied with “I just think it’ll be fun.” But then I caught him lamenting that his AT-AT toy was still back in the UK.

So we bought Paul a Lego Motorized At-At. And Paul, being the awesome, amazing guy that he is, made this sweet little stop-motion video clip in tribute to a job well done.

We love you, Paul. Next time, we’re paying you in Lincoln Logs and Playmobil.

Post in the comments below just how much you love Paul.
