Briefly: Alongside the just-launched Rubicon prequel, Machinima has also debuted a poster and teaser trailer for next week’s launch of the Enormous pilot.

The adaptation of the Image comic was first announced back in November. Agent 47‘s Adrian Askarieh produced the short, which stars Steve Brand, Ceren Lee, Erica Gimpel, Garret Coffey, Billy Miller and Charles Melton, and was directed by BenDavid Grabinski.

I’ve had an opportunity to watch the full short, and I really think you’re all going to enjoy it. For now, take a look at the trailer and poster below, and let us know what you think! I sure hope that Machinima decides to continue this one!

EnormousPoster

The world as we know it has ended. A group of survivors on a mission now find themselves face to face with unspeakable dangers, some human and some…much bigger.

Briefly: Did you know that Academy Award winning screenwriter Chris McQuarie (The Usual Suspects), also wrote a graphic novel?

It’s called Rubicon, and it’s a re-imagining of Seven Samurai, set during the War in Afghanistan. The novel focuses on five paramilitary Navy SEAL operators who are defending the residents of a remote mountain farming village from attacks by marauding Taliban.

The book is fantastic, but it definitely leaves you wanting more. How about what happened before the graphic novel?

Machinima has got you covered on that front. Long (Hawken) and McQuarrie (The Usual SuspectsJack Reacher) joined forces with director Christian Johnston for a live-action prequel that is now live on Machinima Prime.

Take a look at the pilot below, and let us know how cool it is!

Briefly: Machinima is on a roll this week! Just a few days ago they released Game World, and awesome new short by the always-talented Joe Miale, and today they’ve debuted Counterspell, a hilarious animated comedy set in an old-school video game universe!

CounterSpell follows two dungeon mini-bosses who choose to leave their boss fight instead of facing their scripted deaths at the hands of four RPG players. They embark on a misguided evil adventure that will likely doom the world and turn the RPG genre on its head. It’s a ridiculously simple tale, with planty of preposterously funny content through its duration.

The series, which was created by some of the biggest names in the YouTube and Machinima universes, (including YouTube heavyweights MLGhwnt (220,000+ subs), iHasCupquake (youtube.com/iHasCupquake, 1,300.000+ subs), ImmortalHD (youtube.com/ImmortalHDFilms, 650,000+ subs), and Slyfox (youtube.com/xXSlyFoxHoundXx, 1,180,000+ subs), launched its first two episodes earlier today. You can check them out in full below, and we’ll be sure to share more as they’re released!

Be sure to let us know what you think of Counterspell so far!

Briefly: You may remember a fantastic Assassin’s Creed fan film that debuted on Machinima last back in September, and a fantastic Half-Life short that dropped in October. Both were totally awesome, and both were developed by a very talented filmmaker named Joe Miale.

Well, Miale’s back, and this time he’s taken released an original short called Game World

In Game World, Avid gamer Monty, is obsessed with classic 8-bit game, ‘Corbin’s Quest’. In his quest to find the cheat password to unlock a legendary hidden level, Monty gets more than he bargained for as he is transported into the game and will soon find himself battling the characters within. In short, life is a game – and Monty has just found the cheat code.

The short is pretty cool, so take a look below, and let us know what you think!

Briefly: I’ve been meaning to try League of Legends for quite some time now. I told myself that I would play it when the Mac beta launched in March of last year… and for some reason it’s still sitting on my SSD unplayed.

After watching the League of Legends: Beyond the Rift video, which kicked off Machinima’s #LOLWEEK today, I want to give it a shot right now.

This week’s League of Legends theme is building up to the launch of Chasing the Cup, and all-new LoL competition series from Machinima.:

League of Legends fans awaiting the launch of Chasing the Cup—Machinima’s new LoL competition series—can whet their appetites with a week-long celebration known as #LoLWeek. Airing on Machinima Realm (YouTube.com/MachinimaRealm), the series of live-action and CGI-animated videos will showcase a who’s-who of League of Legends champions, including Jax, Veigar, Fiddlesticks, Ahri, Graves, Miss Fortune, Kog’Maw, Lux,Mecha Kha’zix, and Ashe. A new video will debut each day at 9:00 am PST (12:00 pm EST), all leading up to the Friday launch of Chasing the Cup on Machinima’s Twitch channel (Twitch.tv/Machinima).

New videos will be published each day, beginning with Jax vs. Veigar. Watch the amazing League of Legends: Beyond the Rift video below, and let us know what else you hope to see this week? Are you a LoL player? What’s your favourite thing about the title? Sound out below!

This is damn cool.

Today, Machinima released the very first episode of Ghost Source Zero, a neat new sic-fi by original G.I. Joe Writer Larry Hama and Nerd Rage Productions founder Mark Cheng.

The project “takes place in the midst of the Artificial Intelligence Revolution. With Americans watching on their Living Wall flat screens and Genius Phones, Homeland Security’s Cyber Crime Division is the only thing trying to stop the ‘bots and ‘borgs from taking over, and they are so underfunded they have to allow a reality show crew to embed with them just to meet payroll-‐ forget about the pensions. But are the robots really trying to usurp humanity? Or are they just seeking a seat at the table?”

Sounds cool, huh? Well, why not watch the pilot below, and look below to learn how you can help Ghost Source Zero continue. Yep, the creators want to make even more.

http://youtu.be/V6empiP5F44

Hama and Cheng would love to turn Ghost Source Zero into a film serial, so they’ve taken to Kickstarter to raise the funds. The campaign has raised a fantastic $29, 754 of its $65, 000 goal in just a few days, so it’s well on its way to becoming a reality.

The creators are looking for money to fund:

-production coordination
-locations
-travel
-audio engineering
-legal
-food
-YOUR MONEY WILL GO TOWARDS MAKING THIS FILM – AND OUR DREAMS – COME TRUE!!

Ghost Source Zero looks like a great project, and is certainly one that I’d love to see come to fruition. As always, there are plenty of amazing rewards up for grabs, including digital downloads, posters, Blu-Rays, credits, tours, costumes, and more! There’s some seriously cool stuff here.

Take a look at the project’s Kickstarter video below, and if you’re interested, head here to back the film!

Anticipation has been high for Starz’ new series Black Sails–the fan reaction to the trailer that premiered at the San Diego Comic Con last July was so strong that Starz renewed it for a second season essentially right then and there–and with the premiere just a week away (and for those you who just cannot wait, episode “I” is available at Machinima as of today), we were very excited to get a chance to chat with Mark Ryan, who plays Gates–Captain Flint’s Quartermaster, crew advocate and calm voice of reason amidst the violence and bloodshed, both on land and on board Flint’s ship, the Walrus.

Mark Ryan is a veteran stage and screen actor, playing an eclectic mix of roles, from Che in Evita in London’s West End, to Nasir in Robin of Sherwood, to the voice of Bumblebee in Transformers and Jetfire in Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon.

Q: Black Sails is one of many pirate-themed shows out recently. What do you think makes it different?

A: This is a much more realistic, gritty take on pirates, and their life. It was dangerous. Really, it was a miracle anyone survived. And we’re dealing with historical characters like Captain Vane and Rackham–who were sociopaths. Successful pirates, but really not at all nice. And Zach [McGowen] really brings him alive on screen.

Also, the technology allowed us to do things that just couldn’t be done ten years ago. Filming on a real ship on an ocean is very hard to do, if you can imagine. But we had these full sized pirate ships, fully rigged, with 50 man on them, in front of a green screen, with another green screen for the ocean. It hadn’t ever been done before, not in this scope. and I think you can tell, when you watch it, just the incredible scope of the production.

Q: What drew you to the character of Gates?

Gate’s is the go-between, he’s part of the crew but he’s also Flint’s advisor…and, well, it’s a great role across the board in terms of emotion…it just runs the gamut. And he’s kind of the everyman, isn’t he? He’s the audience’s introduction to a great many of the characters, their link to this world. He interacts with everyone and sort of gives the audience the tour.

And the rest of the cast is just phenomenal. Everyone brought their best game, and it’s just been such great atmosphere on set.

Q: Machinima is working with Starz to air Black Sails a week earlier than it’s Starz Premiere. What do you think about these sort of new media/social media outlets and how they interact with traditional entertainment?

A:  (laughs) I’m so glad you asked that. I really believe this is the future of entertainment, you know, worldwide collaboration on content that is available to all. This new technology we have, the 3D cameras–which are tiny now, when I first worked on  [Transformers] Revenge of the Fallen the cameras were huge, and I remember when I got to the set on [Transformers]Dark Side of the Moon, I asked Michael [Bay], ‘where are the cameras?’ and he pointed to these tiny things…technology just whizzes along and people have to think out of the box.

I think the Black Sails production paradigm is one we’ll keep seeing, with absolutely quality production values and creative, entertaining content that will draw worldwide audiences, because you don’t have to be in one place, getting one channel, you can watch it anywhere, on your phone, at home, on a laptop. It’s the future and it’s amazing.

Black Sails stars Zach McGowan as the historical figure Captain Vane, Toby Schmitz as Rackham, Hannah New as Eleanor Guthrie, Jessica Parker Kennedy as Max and Mark Ryan as Gates. The series was executive produced by Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes partners (Brad Fuller and Andrew Form) and created by Jonathan Steinberg (Jericho, Human Target) and Robert Levine (Touch).

Black Sails premieres on Starz next Saturday, January 25th, at 9 p.m. or you can watch it right now on Machinima:

Black Sails is the new pirates-themed Starz series, and it premieres next week on January 25th. For those of you who can’t wait to explore the world of cutlasses, sails and rum, the pilot episode is available right now on Machinima (you can also catch it embedded below).

Black Sails is a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island, set during the third and final period of the Golden Age of Piracy (1714-1726, if you were interested), which puts it anywhere from 20 to 30 years before the events in Treasure Island. The series centers around a young John Silver (Luke Arnold)—with both his legs and no parrot–and his adventures with Captain Flint (Toby Stephens) of The Walrus.

This isn’t the fantastical world of pirates we might have seen in the past—this world is darker, grittier, more realistic–and certainly a lot more naked.

Briefly: Machinima has just announced that the entire first episode of Starz highly anticipated high-seas drama, Black Sails, will debut on Machinima Prime a full week before its television premiere.

The pilot will hit YouTube on January 18th, and from everything we’ve seen from Black Sails so far, it should be awesome.

Allen DeBevoise, Co-Founder and CEO at Machinima sure sounds excited, stating that “Black Sails is a truly outstanding production that features a storyline that our audience will gravitate towards. Michael Bay and the entire cast and crew have created a surefire hit for Starz and we are thrilled to be a part of it. This content partnership with our vast network will introduce the series to millions of loyal Machinima viewers and will help pave the way for future opportunities to partner with Starz.”

Nancy McGee, EVP of Marketing for Starz continues, “Starz is very pleased to work with Machinima as a one of its key digital sampling distributors and custom content partners. Robust sampling maximizes potential exposure for a series, such as ‘Black Sails,’ that is a rich, yet widely accessible viewing experience. Machinima offers Starz and ‘Black Sails’ a great online platform to engage new audiences in a challenging digital space and introduce content that is truly premium to a valuable audience and ultimately assist us driving subscription growth.”

Briefly: Here’s an awesome holiday treat for The Legend of Zelda fans.

Jared Potter, the same talented creator that brought us the impressive Bioshock: New Year’s End fan film is back again, and this time he’s taking on the creepiest character from the Legend of Zelda series: Skull Kid.

Potter shows viewers a Zelda world like they have never seen recreated through stunning visual effects. In the video, Skull Kid, a harmless but troublesome imp, has been cast out of the city of Clocktown. Deep within the lost woods, he must face the harsh realities of his banishment. There, amongst the trees, an ancient evil has also begun to stir, seeking out a creature suitable to become its puppet. Us fans will recognize many of the scenes in the short, especially the awesome ending.

Briefly: The release date was revealed just last week, and now it’s finally here! Hail to the King is now available to watch in its entirety on Machinima Happy Hour!

Now, it’s been a number of years since I’ve listened to Avenged Sevenfold, but with an animation giant like Jon Schnepp attached to the project, I’ll be watching Hail to the King immediately. The series goes hand-in-hand with the band’s upcoming mobile video game Hail to the King: Deathbat, which is due out in early 2014. As singer M Shadows says: “The animated series tells the story ‘before’ the game takes place. When the series ends, the game picks up.”

You can watch all six episodes below, and be sure to let us know what you think! Don’t forget to check out Schnepp’s current Kickstarter campaign, Unicrom: The Unicorn Barbarian!

From the creative minds of Avenged Sevenfold, one of rock music’s global heavyweights and a trailblazing force in fusing the worlds of music and video games, Hail To The King is a six-episode animated series, which is directed by Metalocalypse producer Jon Schnepp. The unique and innovative series tells the fictional story of the Deathbat – the band’s longtime trademark, and serves as the prologue to their highly anticipated mobile video game, “Hail to the King: Deathbat.” Accompanying the launch of the series will be a trailer for the game, which will be available early 2014.

Briefly: Free on Tuesday? You should definitely check this out. It’s for a great cause, and should be entertaining as hell!

Machinima has announced its 2nd Annual “Pro vs. GI Joe” Charity Livestream, taking place on Tuesday, December 17 on Twitch.tv/Machinima and MachinimaLive.com. The live event will feature pro-gamers and Machinima talent playing video games against active duty military personnel, with the goal of raising awareness and money for the important military charity, Pro vs. GI Joe.

For the second year in a row, Machinima is working with the “Pro vs GI Joe” charity, which traditionally pairs active-duty troops with professional athletes for simul-cast play. In Machinima’s case, troops will be paired with professional gamers – including tag-team hosts APL Fisher and Lester along with Fwiz, SkyDoesMinecraft, and Freddie Wong — and Machinima in-house talent.

Here’s what Machinima had to say about the upcoming event:

Last year, for the first time, more American troops died from suicide than combat.

This year, this terrifying epidemic was reduced by 22% – a relief, to be sure – but we’re still not out of the woods. Now more than ever, good morale should be the priority of a healthy military. December 17th at Machinima, we’ve paired up with Universal Pictures and Pro vs GI Joe, a non-profit organization committed to bringing good-natured distraction to troops stationed around the world, as well as veterans returning home.

Traditionally pairing troops with professional athletes, they’ve been simulcasting friendly tournaments of Call of Duty since 2007- and have a been a huge hit with service men and women.

We’ll be joined by your favorite Pro-Gamers and YouTubers, as well as in-house favorites APLFisher, Fwiz and Dunkus – as they take on the latest CoD: Ghosts maps with troops stationed in Kandahar, Marmal and Shindand Afghanistan, LIVE from 1 – 4p. We’ll also have veterans in the studio, as well as injured and retired Army snipers on Skype, to answer all our viewer’s questions about what combat is really like.

Do some good today! If you have a spare moment, please tune in to Twitch.tv/Machinima, and/or donate what you can!
Any amount is truly appreciated!

If you’re interested in donating, head here and give whatever you can! Pro vs. GI Joe is a non-profit doing truly amazing things for our troops, wounded vets and their families. Visit  bit.ly/MLiveCharityhttp://www.provsgijoe.org/ and https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/1403575for more information.

Briefly: Jon Schnepp is a busy guy. He’s currently working on the feature-length documentary The Death of ‘Superman Lives’: What Happened?, running a Kickstarter for Unicrom: The Unicorn Barbarian, and the six-episode Hail to the King just got a release date on Machinima.

Here’s the synopsis from Machinima:

From the creative minds of Avenged Sevenfold, one of rock music’s global heavyweights and a trailblazing force in fusing the worlds of music and video games, Hail To The King is a six-episode animated series, which is directed by Metalocalypse producer Jon Schnepp. The unique and innovative series tells the fictional story of the Deathbat – the band’s longtime trademark, and serves as the prologue to their highly anticipated mobile video game, “Hail to the King: Deathbat.” Accompanying the launch of the series will be a trailer for the game, which will be available early 2014.

Now, it’s been a number of years since I’ve listened to Avenged Sevenfold, but with an animation giant like Jon Schnepp attached to the project, I’ll be watching Hail to the King as soon as possible.

The entire season will launch on Machinima’s Happy Hour channel on December 15th. Take a look at the newest trailer below, and let us know if you’ll be checking it out!

If you’re planning on getting an Xbox One, you’re probably standing in line at your favorite game store in the freezing cold right now. After risking life, limb and a case of hypothermia in your pursuit of the newest addition to the Xbox family, the time will come to make your biggest decision of the night; one that will shape your gaming experience for the immediate future. That choice? Which games to buy! Whether or not you go with Dead Rising 3, Ryse, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, or one of the many other titles releasing with the system, just know that Machinima has your back when the gaming gets tough. Thanks to the Machinima app that will be available for download day and date with launch, early adopters won’t be alone in those moments where they’re getting taken down by zombie hordes or being made into killstreak fodder.

As it’s said, never go anywhere without your wingman.

http://youtu.be/OKg653P0TCA#aid=P-IWu3ilFME

When a gamer hears of a console based Machinima app, you’d expect to be able to access the brand’s numerous gaming related videos and hours worth of entertainment that have been posted across the Interwebz for years now. With that assumption, you would be correct, since the App will give Xbox One owners the ability to stream their favorite Machinima content through the App. On top of this, the system has a mind of its own, with content suggestions that are based around the content you continuously play. So if you play a ton of shooters? Expect to find the latest COD content side by side with listings for the most popular and newest videos for the day.

More importantly however, is the roll out of the new “Wingman” videos that are being made especially for the App. Launching with videos for Ryse, COD, Battlefield and Dead Rising 3, the Wingman feature is designed by gamers, for gamers to provide comprehensive strategies for each title. Made with the intention of creating the feeling of having a friend on your couch helping you out, each game has about 30 videos. You’ll never have to worry about spending hours combing for that one missing secret or struggle against that boss that’s been giving you trouble again.

http://youtu.be/DqLrbjZ8lw0#aid=P-IWu3ilFME

The best part? You’ll never have to interrupt your game to obtain the help you need. Thanks to the snap feature on the console, (you know, the feature that let’s you watch TV while playing? The one the entire Internet seemed to hate during the console reveal?) videos can be run while gaming, making the Wingman experience as seamless as possible. To top it off, the App will detect when you die multiple times during the same section and suggest the appropriate video to help you get over that seemingly impossible area. Awesome? I think so.

Machinima Snap

Of course, if you have a ton of gamer pride, the videos are completely optional. But if this wasn’t enough to convince you to make this one of the first apps in your library, then maybe some… Achievements will change your mind? Yes achievement hunters, the App has its own awards to earn. Ranging from watching between 1 AM and 4 AM, subscribing to a video, creating an account and watching 1,000 videos amongst many other goals, it’s clear that this App is giving you more than enough reasons to download it, especially because it’s completely free.

http://youtu.be/E40F3j3lEhE#aid=P-IWu3ilFME

So on launch day, we get an App that recognizes our gaming preferences, helps us finish games when we get stuck, and responds to our voice commands using the Kinect? It’s only a matter of time before the consoles become self aware and take over us all, so enjoy it while you can! While we wait for the inevitable day when our Xbox One’s enslave us all, make sure to check out the Machinima App. It’s creative use of the Snap feature along with its wealth of existing content and the bonus achievements are sure to come in handy for many a gamer. The promise of a few new Wingman videos every quarter, including at least one new set before year’s end, day and date DLC walkthroughs and demo videos, it seems like the console owners will have plenty of content for months on end.

Excited for the App? Does the potential of the Wingman feature sound as exciting as I think it does? Check out the preview videos for the launch games and comment below with your thoughts!

Briefly: This is pretty cool, and with the PS4 launching just a few days ago, and just a few more days until the launch of the Xbox One, it’s coming out at a perfect time.

What if the ‘Console War’ wasn’t metaphorical? What if it was Halo‘s Master Chief and Gods of War‘s Kratos battling for supremacy in a city street, armed with laser beams, guns, missiles and even mini-nuclear weapons. Sounds pretty great, right? Well, now you can watch how it would play out.

The video even features giant Playstation and Xbox mechs, and even a tiny Wii one (which is quickly and easily taken care of). It’s a pretty fun watch, and even has a neat ‘choose your own adventure’ element to it.

Take a look at The Console War below, and let us know what you think!

Did you pick up a PS4 this weekend, or are you waiting for an Xbox One? Maybe you’re a Wii U owner (go buy one, it’s awesome)? Sound out below!

Briefly: What a world we live in.

Series can come back from the dead in an internet-only format, Marvel original series are coming to Netflix, and comic books are being adapted into online series. It’s crazy, it’s incredible, and it’s only going to get better.

Variety revealed today that Adrian Askarieh and Machinima are banding together to craft a pilot based on Image Comics’ Enormous. The book revolves around a cataclysmic ecological event that creates massive beasts that overrun human civilization and puts mankind at the bottom of the food chain, and it looks damn good.

Askarieh will produce the 10-minute pilot, which will later be adapted into a full series. Cost of Living director Ben David Grabinski will direct the short.

Have you read the graphic novel? Were you a fan? Be sure to let us know, and sound out if you’re looking forward to a series! The pilot is set to shoot in December, and we’ll be sure to share more info as soon as we hear it!

Briefly: Machinima’s Interactive Film Festival hits Los Angeles next week… again leaving me to wish that I was in LA.

Running at the iam8bit studios located in Echo Park from November 22 – 24, 2013, the offline exhibit will shine a light on filmmakers and animators at the forefront of this unprecedented cultural shift in online video media.

The video art show is unique in its ability to provide anyone in the world the opportunity to view work submitted by some of the most talented online video directors and content creators. With just over one week to go before this year’s festival, some of the entries come from all over the world, and feature talent from YouTube, Vimeo, top animation and film schools, traditional festivals, and even a few Hollywood insiders.

Unlike traditional film festivals, “MIFF” breaks down barriers of exclusivity and expense by asking for no entry charge, no scurry for tickets, no stress— for both its online and offline components. In addition to the offline event, “MIFF” is a massive, yearlong collaboration between Machinima, iam8bit, and some of the best and brightest filmmakers and animators around, empowering directors and content creators to develop their best work and submit via http://machinimainteractivefilmfestival.com/submit/. So far, Machinima has uploaded over 30 pieces of content, as the piloting stage is year-round. Those videos alone have generated an average of 100K views per video, curating over 3.5MM views. In addition, last year’s winners have collectively accumulated more than 10M views on their respective shows and series.

For the first time ever, three creators (one from each category) will be selected as winners and given development deals for a three-to-four episode mini-series to be funded and distributed by Machinima. Of the three mini-series, one will be selected to develop a feature-length (90 minute) piece of content, distributed as nine 10-minute segments on Machinima, as well as potential limited theatrical distribution.

Winners will be selected by a panel of Machinima staff and industry heavy hitters, including director James Wan, game designer Cliffy B, animator Jon Schnepp, producer Adi Shanker, YouTube star Mega 64, and many more.

The content will be submitted and presented in 3 categories, including:

· Fan Films (Example: The Dark Knight Legacy – http://youtu.be/kmLXTFWgX2s)

· Animation (Example: COIN – http://youtu.be/vuBhHxdMwgg)

· Live Action Originals (Example: Land of Giants – http://youtu.be/jMVw9LxzUB0)

An ongoing celebration of incubating creative talent, accepted selections will be distributed online by the Machinima network and housed and promoted via MachinimaInteractiveFilmFestival.com. iam8bit will then physically exhibit the whole entertainment experience at their studios in Los Angeles from November 22 – 24, 2013.

It sounds pretty amazing, so all you ‘Scapists in the Los Angeles area better be headed to Echo Park! Be sure to let me know how it is, since I’m stuck all the way up here in Canada.

Briefly: This is absolutely wonderful.

Almost everyone remembers that amazing 2011 trailer for Dead Island that re-announced the long-in-development game. From the haunting music, to the beautiful landscapes, to the silent, slow motion destruction. I still vividly remember the video, even though it’s been well over a year since I’ve seen it. That trailer may just be the best video game trailer ever made.

Machinima today launched a shot-for-shot, live action adaptation of that beloved trailer. Featuring the same iconic music, the production team matched the emotion and action of the original down to the smallest detail. This thing is exact, and it’s just as (if not more since you’re seeing real people here) haunting as the original.

Take a look at the video below, and let us know what you think. I’m just going to go cry now.

Briefly: Gamers, you have seen the first season of Fallout: Nuka Break, haven’t you?

Nuka Break‘s original release was a 16-minute long fan film that hit YouTube all the way back in 2011. It was so popular, that the fine folks over at Wayside Creations turned the property into a webseries.

Back in April 2012, a Kickstarter Campaign to fund a second season if the series began. During its two month-duration, the campaign raised a fantastic $130,746 of its $60,000 goal, meaning that fans would indeed get a second season, and it would be awesome.

Season 2 of Fallout: Nuka Break is finally here. Finding our heroes right where we left them at the end of the beloved first season, the season begins with Eastwood being threatened with nuclear destruction. With Ben’s health declining and the threat of Leon’s presence, Scar, Ben, and Twig find themselves separated and in more danger than ever.  If they want to rid the world of Leon’s evil once and for all, they must each face their own demons and, ultimately, make a sacrifice.

Sounds great, right? You can watch the entire 10-episode second season of Fallout: Nuka Break below, and be sure to let us know what you think!

Briefly: This is really cool.

Machinima already has one of the most download Xbox 360 apps around, and they’re clearly looking to continue that success with the Xbox One.

Launching concurrently with the Xbox One, Machinima Wingman is an all new app designed to take advantage of the Xbox One’s substantial hardware improvements. It’s set to offer will offer a new and best-in-breed companion experience for gamers around the world: rich, custom-created, and exclusive videos that accompany and complement the next-gen gameplay of a select group of Xbox One launch titles. In addition, the Machinima app on Xbox One will provide exclusive entertainment experiences, with tent-pole series, weekly shows and other fan-focused content, alongside all of the variety of network and partner content Machinima is known for.

Exclusive content sounds like a great incentive to download the app. I already subscribe to Machinima on YouTube, but Wingman sounds like a great new delivery system for the content that we already know and love.

Machinima Xbox One Start Screen

According to the press release, this “exclusive entertainment experience will leverage key Xbox One platform differentiators, including the integrated Snap mode, which offers users the ability to do two things at once. This function provided Machinima with the tools to create “Machinima Wingman,” a rich, contextual game companion. It’s almost as if a buddy is sitting right next to you, providing tips and tricks, as well as helping players through the toughest parts in the game. An Xbox One-exclusive companion experience, “Machinima Wingman” is initiated by users through a verbal command “Xbox, Snap Machinima” and will automatically open and snap the Machinima app into view, immediately sensing the game being played and serving up a relevant playlist of video. Available in Standard and Enhanced forms, “Machinima Wingman” features a rich library of curated videos based on the game title being played and providing anything from walk-throughs, to game reviews, to help videos, and so much more. For Enhanced games, “Machinima Wingman” becomes even more keyed to best accompany gameplay.”

So I guess this means you won’t need to Google “How to beat x boss/level in x game” anymore. It’s all integrated, and sounds great!

The Machinma Wingman experience will surely get even better as time goes on. The company is planning both Microsoft Smart Glass support, as well as expanding the app’s feature set into 2014. Watch a video of Machinima Wingman running with Dead Rising 3 below, and let us know what you think!

Looks pretty cool, huh?

Briefly: You may remember a fantastic Assassin’s Creed fan film that debuted on Machinima last month. It was called Assassin’s Creed: Checkmate, and it was developed by a very talented filmmaker named Joe Miale.

Well, Miale’s back, and this time he’s taken on Half-Life.

Half-Life: Raise The Bar starts off with a bang as a catastrophic event on the Black Mesa Research Facility is unleashed when an experiment goes wrong. As scientists scramble to find a way out, the game’s iconic weapon– the crowbar– finds its rightful owner.

It’s a great take on one of the best franchises of all time, and it really makes me want to give the series another playthrough. Take a look at Half-Life: Raise The Bar below, and let us know what you think!

Briefly: Following the newest trailer from a few weeks back, and our constant coverage since (seriously, check out interviews with director Kevin Tancharoen and actors Samantha Jo and Casper Van Dien, plus last week’s Geekscape with Brian Tee), Machinima has just debuted the second season of Mortal Kombat: Legacy.

I had the opportunity to watch the first few episodes of the season earlier this week, and I absolutely cannot wait to finish the set. Seriously, Legacy II is fantastic, and surpasses even the first season of the celebrated series.

In Legacy II, the Mortal Kombat saga continues as Liu Kang and Ermac join the ranks of fighters introduced in the series’ first season, including Kenshi, Kung Lao, Kuai Lang, Stryker, Kitana, Mileena, Johnny Cage, Scortcheson and Sub- Zero. This new season uncovers the rivalries and histories of these fierce warriors as Raiden and his recruits clash against the dark forces of Outworld. Chronicling the tournament and the interweaving storylines of the most beloved Kombatants, ngorians also will learn of the complex relationship between Liu Kang and Kung Lao and revisit the complicated family dynamic of Kitana and Mileena.

Watch Mortal Kombat: Legacy II below, and let us know what you think! Also, don’t miss tonight’s Geekscape, where Jonathan hosts Legacy director Kevin Tancharoen and Fangasm star Andrew Duvall! It’s live at 6PST, only on the Toadhop Network!

In the highly anticipated second season, the saga continues as Liu Kang and Ermac join the ranks of fighters introduced in the series’ first season, including Kenshi, Kung Lao, Kuai Liang, Stryker, Kitana, Mileena, Johnny Cage, Scorpion and Sub- Zero. This new season uncovers the rivalries and histories of these fierce warriors as Raiden and his recruits clash against the dark forces of Outworld. Chronicling the tournament and the interweaving storylines of the most beloved Kombatants, fans will also learn of the complex relationship between Liu Kang and Kung Lao and revisit the complicated family dynamic of Kitana and Mileena. The epic battle for EarthRealm has finally begun!

Actor Brian Tee is the latest actor to take on the role of Liu Kang in Machinima’s ‘Mortal Kombat: Legacy’ Season 2. And this summer, we saw Brian get tossed out a window by Hugh Jackman in ‘The Wolverine’. So of course I jumped at the chance to have him on the show to talk comics and video games! In this episode, we talk about how his character D.K. in ‘Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift’ was actually a good guy, growing up as a football player and discovering your inner theater geek and how Brian used to play Mortal Kombat in the pizza shop where he worked. And of course, what is it like to step into the shoes of a beloved video game character? PLUS! I talk some GTA V! How is it already the best GTA game?

Briefly: Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is just over a month away from release, and I couldn’t be more excited. Sure, I miss the sprawling cityscapes and parkour of the first few games in the series, but I’m really looking forward to taking to the high seas, and further learning the history of Desmond’s ancestors.

A very talented filmmaker by the name of Joe Miale has just released a fantastic Assassin’s Creed IV fan film called Assassin’s Creed: Checkmate. The video (of course) takes place in the 1700’s Caribbean as Edward Kenway stumbles upon a robbery in progress and has only a split second to make his killer move.

The short should do a great job at further exciting fans for the game, and also gives us a great look at Miale’s production chops. Miale will be back on Machinima in just a few weeks to debut another short based on the Half-Life series.

Take a look at Assassin’s Creed: Checkmate below, and let us know what you think! Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag hits stores on October 29th!

Briefly: We’ve know for some time now that their would be a second season of the acclaimed Mortal Kombat: Legacy, and now we know just when we’ll be able to watch it!

The entire second season of the popular series will debut in just a few weeks, on September 26th. As always, you’ll be able to watch every episode on Machinima’s YouTube channel.

According to the press release, “The first season of “Mortal Kombat: Legacy” was one of 2011’s most-viewed web series and has generated more than 70 million views to date on Machinima. In the highly anticipated second season, the saga continues as Liu Kang and Ermac join the ranks of fighters introduced in the series’ first season, including Kenshi, Kung Lao, Kuai Lang, Stryker, Kitana, Mileena, Johnny Cage, Scortcheson and Sub- Zero. The epic battle for EarthRealm has finally begun!”

Briefly: League of Legends fans, you’re going to love this.

You probably remember the fantastic Skyrim fan film, Into the Void, that Machinima debuted earlier this month, right? Well they’re at it again, and this time the’ve released two incredible projects based on the ever popular (though somehow I’ve still never played it) League of Legends.

Both videos come from George and Harry Kirby, the very same geeks who crafted an impressive Dragon Ball Z live action short earlier this year. First up, on Machinima Prime is League of Legends: Blind Ambition, which delves into the past of Lee Sin, the blind monk. You’ll learn how he was blinded, watch him battle the deadly assassin Katarina, and much, much more. Take a look at Blind Ambition below, and read on for the next video!

Next up, on Machinima Realm, is League of Legends: Shadowfall, a three-part miniseries that “follows the lore of Shen and Zed, two brothers training to become ninja warriors, whose sibling rivalry turns deadly when Zed embraces the shadow powers in order to overcome his brother.” Take a look at all three episodes below, and let us know what you think!

Machinima is certainly producing some great content these days. I can’t wait to see what comes next! Be sure to let us know what you thought of these shorts!

Briefly: This is freaking awesome.

Machinima Prime has just debuted a fantastic new Skyrim live action fan film. Created by Warialasky, a Machinima partner based in Utah who is best known for his Skyrim, Goldeneye, Tetris and Splinter Cell live action pieces, this latest live-action Skyrim short follows Dovahkiin, the noble dragonborn hero, who is cursed in a fight with a vampire.

The video clocks in a nearly 20 minutes, and had me invested right from its opening scene. I haven’t seen any of Warialasky’s other work, but following this unreal Skyrim short, I’ll be looking them up immediately.

Take a look at Skyrim: Into The Void below, and let us know what you think!

http://youtu.be/xy5LizCEGF8

Dovahkiin has completed the task of eliminating Alduin and saving the world from destruction, only to have contracted vampirism along his journey. Most of Skyrim remains oblivious to this feat and shun him from their towns because he has become a vampire, leaving Dovahkiin to wander the wilds.

The head of the Dark Brotherhood, Astrid, captures Dovahkiin and brings him to a remote cabin in the marshes, believing she can use him. Promising a cure for his vampirism, Astrid convinces Dovahkiin to assist the Brotherhood on a mission to rescue a captured member of the Brotherhood. This forced partnership brings them face-to-face with the Necromancers and a battle for their survival ensues.

Briefly: YouTube Geek Week is well underway, and today’s the day that many of us have been waiting (and waiting) for: Gaming Thursday.

There is bound to be plenty of exciting new content revealed throughout the day, and there’s already a fantastic variety of new gaming videos. Machinima and Polaris are the two big players in today’s programming, and Machinima has debuted a hilarious, cameo filled video to kick off the day.

Titled “YouTube at WAR! Epic Video Game BATTLE!”, the video features cameos by some of YouTube’s most popular gamers, Chris Hardwick himself, and plenty of video game references to keep you laughing.

Take a look at the video below, and let us know what you think! Don’t forget to check out everything else that YouTube Geek Week has to offer!

Briefly: This was simply too funny not to share. Minecraft fans, Shaft lovers, and proponents of Machinima are bound to get a kick out of this.

Machinima has just debut a new short film called Mineshaft. The 11+ minute comedy, of course, combines Shaft and Minecraft, and all of the connotations attached to the two. Mineshaft follows detective John Mineshaft and his dog Whitey, as they attempt to discover and catch the thieves stealing all of the Ender Pearls.

The short is an absolute blast, and as an avid Minecraft fan (who unfortunately hasn’t had the time to play in weeks), Mineshaft may be one of the best Minecraft parodies out there. Take a look at the short below, and let us know what you think!
