Stan Lee Issues A Statement Addressing Recent Health Concerns

Following reports of several cancelled upcoming appearances due to, “a very serious circumstance”, many had worried that we would be losing the beloved Lee. Worry not true believers, Stan has released the following statement in which he confirms that he is in fact perfectly fine and definitely in good spirits after having a pacemaker fitted “in an effort to be more like fellow Avenger, Tony Stark”.

Attention, Troops!

This is a dispatch sent from your beloved Generalissimo, directly from the center of Hollywood’s combat zone!

Now hear this! Your leader hath not deserted thee! In an effort to be more like my fellow Avenger, Tony Stark, I have had an electronic pace-maker placed near my heart to insure that I’ll be able to lead thee for another 90 years.

But fear thee not, my valiant warriors. I am in constant touch with our commanders in the field and victory shall soon be ours. Now I must end this dispatch and join my troops, for an army without a leader is like a day without a cameo!

Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo 2012 In Pictures!

Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo took place this past weekend (September 15-16) in Los Angeles and you best believe that Geekscape was there! Our home for the weekend was booth #1148 and friends like Travis Langley (author of Batman and Psychology: A Dark and Stormy Knight), the ‘Batgirl Spoiled‘ cast and the Space Command team all stopped by for a visit. Stan Lee Reveals A Little Bit Of Info About His ‘Iron Man 3’ Cameo

Today marked the final day of Comikaze in Los Angeles and we saw Stan “The Man” Lee do a little bit of Q&A on the main stage. During which one fan asked which cameo was his favorite that he has done in all of the Marvel movies. They also made sure to state that he couldn’t answer with “all of them”.

Stan replied stating that up until now his current favorite was the one that he did for the The Amazing Spider-Man. But then Stan went on to reveal why that one just may not be his favorite anymore.

“…but the cameo I just recently did for the movie Iron-Man 3 which I really think is my greatest cameo yet, I will actually be acting in that one!”

It won’t be the first time Stan’s appeared in a movie as an acting role but definitely will be his first time in Marvel role without just a one-liner. So, are you guys ready to see Stan steal the spotlight from Robert Downey Jr.?

Stan Lee’s Comikaze Unleashes A Zombie Apocalypse!

Stan Lee’s Comikaze is just a few weeks away and we just received word that zombie fans will have a lot more to look forward to at this year’s convention.

The con has just added a 75k sq ft Zombie Apocalypse obstacle course. You can say that SDCC did this back in July with the AMC sponsored Walking Dead obstacle course but here are the major differences:

One, this one’s inside. The Zombie Apocalypse is conveniently located in Hall K and takes about 35 minutes to complete. That sounds a bit more intensive than the Walking Dead one, which I heard had little kids on the course. Two, there probably won’t be kids on the course. As Comikaze head Regina Carpinelli stated in her email to me, “this Zombie course is something we took very serious… We partnered with a major theme park and a company that does crazy, endurance obstacles- American Gladiator stuff.” So it’ll probably be a little more American Ninja Warrior than the walk-through course we got at SDCC.

Because of the added intensity, the Comikaze Zombie Apocalypse costs an additional $30.00. But the course is not recommended for children 12 and under so again, there won’t be any danger of tripping over a kid that has no business being there.

As the Comikaze website states, “if surviving the Zombie Apocalypse is not something you’re interested in, fans can pay between $75.00 – $150.00 to be transformed into a flesh and brain eating zombie by SFX artists. Zombies are expected to terrorize, chase, and infect the survivors to their heart’s content. Stan Lee’s Comikaze embraces all zombie culture. There will also be appearances from Norman Reedus (Daryl from Walking Dead), and Tony Moore, the original Walking Dead comic artist.”

So there you have it, zombie fans. Start lumbering towards Los Angeles from where ever you’re buried and you might just make it in time for Comikaze’s opening on Sept. 15th at the LA Convention Center!

SDCC 2012: Stan Lee’s World Of Heroes

Stan Lee announced the lineup of his new World of Heroes YouTube channel on Thursday, and despite being about as diverse as you can get in tone and style, every show does seem to fit Lee’s mandate of showing a “different side of herodom.”

Here’s the lowdown:

Geek Therapy
A scripted show starring America Young as a shrink specializing in nerdy neuroses.

Fan Wars
A sort of People’s Court in which Judge Jace Hall presides over fan debates such as who would win in a fight between the Avengers and the X-Men. Viewers will recognize the format from Lewis Black’s late Root of All Evil. The courtroom setting differentiates it slightly from the Nerdist channel’s Tournament of Nerds.

Bad Days
What happens when Batman locks his keys in the Batmobile? Find out in this series of bite-size cartoon vignettes showing all those times things don’t go quite right for our favorite heroes.

Geek DIY
Craftswoman extraordinaire Bonnie Burton (“Admiral Sackbar”) invites famous friends to join her as she takes on new fan-related projects.

Stan’s Rants
Stan Lee gets all up in your face to let you know exactly what he is thinking about a current development in the comics world and beyond.

Academy of Superheroes
A reality competition show in which aspiring real-life superheroes (yes, really!) learn everything they need to know from celebrity guest instructors.

San Diego Comic-Con 2012: Marvel Studios Officially Announces Panel

Not that we didn’t know it was coming already but now we have times for the Marvel Studios and Walk Disney Studios panels at SDCC 2012. Marvel will most likely be presenting footage from ‘Iron Man 3’ as well as giving updates such as casting on ‘Thor 2’, ‘Captain America 2’ and a sequel to ‘The Avengers’. We should also expect information about their other projects which are currently rumored to be ‘Ant-Man‘, ‘The Black Panther’ and ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy‘.

Marvel Studios: Saturday, July 14th 6:00pm – 7:00pm (Hall H) – Marvel Studios presents Iron Man 3. Join Producer Kevin Feige and special guests as they provide an inside look at the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures: Thursday, July 12th 2:05pm – 3:05pm (Hall H) – A Q&A panel featuring the imaginative director of Frankenweenie, Tim Burton; A special look at the world of Oz The Great and Powerful with director Sam Raimi; the illustrious voice cast of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Wreck-It Ralph, including John C. Geekscape Games: ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ Looks Like ‘Arkham City’

‘Arkham Asylum’ and ‘Arkham City’ are games praised by both video game and comic fans alike and ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ definitely seems to have taken some ideas from it. And I am saying this in a completely positive way. I’ve been posting numerous updates about this game over the past few weeks and this new developers diary focuses on the stealth and combat in the game and it looks great. It definitely looks like we will be getting quite a few different styles of gameplay throughout the game.

It also appears a new skin for Spidey has been added to the game and if you know my love of this character you will know that I was pretty psyched seeing this…

Everyone loves Stan Lee and now you have the chance to play as Stan ‘The Man’ Lee in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ game from Beenox. The only downside is to get the Stan Lee Adventure Pack you have to pre-order the game from Amazon. However it does look like tons of fun!

Bill Murray As The Human Torch In “The Fantastic Four Radio Show”!!!

Here’s something cool that a friend of mine sent my way. It’s a radio broadcast of The Fantastic Four Radio Show which ran for thirteen episodes in 1975. It features narration by non other than Stan ” The Man” Lee and features a young Bill Murray as The Human Torch…that’s right true believers, Peter Venkman was The Human Torch. So sit back, relax and enjoy the adventure. Excelsior!

Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo Adds Elvira, Todd McFarlane and My Little Pony!

This morning, Geekscape’s friends at Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo announced the addition of business partner Cassandra Peterson, better known as Elvira Mistress of the Dark. On top of the news that Peterson will attend Comikaze exclusively as Elvira is the reveal that renowned comic creator Todd McFarlane has also been announced as a Guest of Honor. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic voice actress Tara Strong (who also voiced Harley Quinn in Batman: Arkham City) was also announced as a guest so get all of your Brony swag ready to be signed.

Entertainment, Comikaze Expo has brought in a great new business  partner- Cassandra Peterson, best known for her character, Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. The Elvira creator is taking a very active role in the planning of the largest pop-culture expo in Los Angeles. Peterson and the Stan Lee’s Comikaze team are launching an interactive webseries/film festival for the show taking place September 15-16th. Elvira and Peaches Christ’s Horror Hunt will be akin to American Idol-and Mystery Science Theater 3000. Aspiring and amateur filmmakers will submit their videos to Comikaze. A team of judges will evaluate them, and the top 10 will be picked-or panned by Elvira and her co-host, Peaches Christ on the hilarious new web series, Horror Hunt. A final winner will be chosen and flown out to LA. The winner will also receive a red carpet premier at the historic Vista Theater, as well as an official screening at Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo. They will also be featured as a guest at Comikaze. Elvira and Peaches Christ’s Horror Hunt will revolutionize the way film festivals are seen.

In conjunction with Horror Hunt, Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo has also launched The Search for the Next SuperHero and Villainous Villain, an art contest promoting creativity and budding artists. Two months ago we ran a rumor that Stan Lee’s POW! Entertainment was purchasing Comikaze Expo to transform into his own comic book convention and fan experience!

And you know what? WE WERE RIGHT!

Geekscape was just sent an early press release, dated to go out tomorrow morning, that makes the entire thing official:

Rumor: LA’s “Comikaze Expo” To Become “Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo”?

Last November, I was one of the many geeks here in Los Angeles who attended the brand new Comikaze Expo at the LA Convention Center. I was also one of the many who had a great time (the Geekscape booth actually did more business at Comikaze than we did at either WonderCon or SDCC that year). But the new convention wasn’t perfect, with an awkward floor-plan, some understaffing issues and a hall that wasn’t quite right for it’s size. Still, ask anyone, including Comikaze organizer Regina Carpinelli, and they’ll tell you that the event was a success.

But was it enough to ensure that Comikaze would survive to see another year? In today’s “You’re Either Comic-Con or Your Not” convention landscape, even the nationwide Wizard World conventions are unable to keep attendee’s interests. So what’s a Con to do to stand out from the pack?

You rebrand yourself by associating your name with a marquee talent that is instantly recognizable to your target audience. Comic book writer Mark Millar successfully launched Kapow! Comic Con two years ago in London, bringing to Europe some of what made Comic Con so great back in the day (all the Hollywood flash without ignoring the comics). Just this morning, readers woke up to GeekChicDaily buying themselves a new life as the Nerdist News Network, a branch of Chris Hardwick’s popular Nerdist brand. Why not? It’s a smart thing to do.

So why do I think Comikaze Expo is becoming Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo (or Excelsior Expo or Generalisimo-Con or something similarly Stan Lee)? Well, something has to be going on.

First, Comikaze canceled its upcoming spring one-day expo that was going to be held at LACC. Why? I’d like to know. I was looking forward to it. But maybe it’s because Regina Carpinelli is too busy globetrotting with Stan Lee to even return my phone calls or emails.

And she’s also been seen with Stan Lee on enemy territory at last month’s Wizard World New Orleans. Actually, since last summer’s Pow! Entertainment, Comikaze Expo, Geekscape SDCC 2012 party, Regina and Stan seem to have become BFF.

Am I feeling like the jilted lover? Would I want Stan Lee to buy a piece of Geekscape? Probably not. I love Stan Lee, but at our first meeting, Stan was having a tough time getting what Geekscape was all about:

 

All I’m really saying is two things:

– Regina, call a guy back, will ya?

– Expect something big to be announced involving Stan Lee and Comikaze Expo. I can’t say what but I’m guessing a merger/acquisition of some kind.

UPDATE: As I was writing this piece, Comikaze has taken down their homepage. But look what I saw moments before they did! A screen grab of a news story that POW!, Regina and Stan probably don’t want you to see until later this week. That’s what you get for ignoring calls, Reg!
