It’s time to talk giant robots fighting Kaiju monsters! ‘Pacific Rim’ is two weeks away from hitting theaters and this week we’ve got ‘Pacific Rim’s screenwriter Travis Beacham in studio to talk about the upcoming film, working with Guillermo Del Toro and the comic book hardback prequel ‘Pacific Rim: Tales From Year Zero’! Travis and I talk about the bringing Pacific Rim to theaters, the joy of creating the comic book and the current trend of remakes versus original ideas. Does Pacific Rim feel like a breathe of fresh air or a Hollywood risk? Also, what was it like growing up as a geek and probably the best Star Wars Episode 1 story of all time! Plus! We say goodbye to Richard Matheson, one of the greatest horror writers of all time!

Also, don’t miss our very own Allie Hanley’s original interview with Travis about ‘Pacific Rim’ and his upcoming ‘Ballistic City’!

This may be Pacific Rim‘s best preview yet.

Idris Elba’s fantastic ‘cancel the apocalypse’ speech overlays some incredible Kaiju/Jaeger action, and really sets a phenomenal tone for the upcoming film. The action looks amazing, the cinematography and sound are beyond impressive, and the plot sounds solid. I hope that Pacific Rim does well for Legendary, as I already feel as though this world needs to be expanded.

Watch the new spot below, and let us know what you think! Pacific Rim hits theatres on July 12th!

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes – a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) – who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Pacific Rim is just weeks away at this point, and like the rest of the world, we couldn’t be more excited.

Marketing for the film has been superb so far, and today’s new TV spot is no different. The preview showcases the Kaiju destruction in many of Earth’s biggest cities. The world is looks like a pretty horrific place, so it’s no wonder we developed the Jaegers to fight back… I just wonder how things will turn out.

If everything went according to plan, we’d be just a few weeks away from the theatrical release of 300: Rise of an Empire. That’s not the way that things always work out, however, and instead we’ll be waiting until March of next year.

Warner Bros. has just released the anticipated first trailer for Rise of an Empire, following a cool new teaser poster released yesterday. The trailer showcases the same stylish look and feel of the first film, but of course, the stunning cast from 300 is nowhere to be found (well, besides David Welham as Dilios).

I’m reserving judgement on this one for now, as it seems like it’s been stuck in development hell for years, but based on my love for the first film alone (plus, the trailer does look pretty cool), I can’t wait to line up for this one. Take a look at the new poster and trailer below, and let us know what you think! 300: Rise of an Empire released March 7th, 2014.

Here’s the poster:

And the film’s first trailer:

“300: Rise of an Empire” pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes, and Artemisia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy.

Mondo is well known for their absolutely incredible posters and artwork (not to mention t-shirts), and they’ve just revealed two new posters for this Summer’s biggest film, Man of Steel.

Two amazing artists have crafted these limited-edition art pieces. Ken Taylor and Martin Ansin have both done some spectacular work, and if my wallet permits, I will definitely be ordering one (if not both) of these.

First, Ken’s 20×36 poster will be available in a regular edition for $50, or a more-limited variant for $75:

man o steel

Next, Martin Ansin’s 24×36 poster will be available for $50 in a regular edition, or $300 in an incredible metal variant:

These both look absolutely wonderful. Will you be picking one up? Head to Mondo’s official blog for all the details.

Today has been quite a day! First, conferences from Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, and Sony are still ongoing preceding E3 tomorrow, Apple’s WWDC kicked off today, and now the world premiere of Man of Steel.

There are a ton of prominent celebrities at the gathering, and I’m sure we’ll see a ton of people that were involved with the film too. Us peasants have a few days to go until we can see Man of Steel, but it’s great to see that the world is excited for it.

You can watch a live stream of the red carpet event below, and be sure to let us know what you think! Man of Steel hits theatres this Friday!

Following all of the awesome still photos and concept art from yesterday, Warner Bros has released both a new banner, and a new featurette for Guillermo Del Toro’s highly anticipated Pacific Rim.

The film’s second featurette (watch the first here) takes you onto the film’s giant sets, and shows you what it’s like to create and film a Jaeger. It’s an awesome look inside the film, and should help to further excite you for July 12th!

Pacific Rim draws ever closer, and I find myself more and more excited for the film every day. Every trailer, image, and piece of marketing for the film has looked incredible, and it’s going to be quite the experience to see the Kaiju and the Jaeger’s duke it out on the big screen.

The awesome folks over at Variety have just released a cool batch of new still images and concept art for the film. Plenty of the movie’s stars are showcased, and director Guillermo Del Toro looks damn excited to be realizing this dream. Take a look at the images below, and let us know what you think!

Pacific Rim is just too far away, isn’t it?

We still have well over a month to wait until we can see the film, and Warner Bros. keeps releasing new images, trailers, and TV spots to excite and tease us to a ridiculous extent. A new TV spot has made its way online, and is filled with some cool new footage that shows Charlie Hunnam’s ‘Raleigh’ joining the fight against the Kaiju.

This move is going to rock. Watch the new spot below, and let us know what you think! Pacific Rim opens on July 12th!

Warner Bros. has just released a new featurette for Guillermo Del Toro’s highly anticipated Pacific Rim, and it’s a great watch for anyone who’s interested in the movie. The video features lots of new footage, and helps explain something that I’ve been wondering about the film for quite some time: why does each Jaeger need two pilots?

The answer to that question is simple (and actually one that I’ve speculated on before), but I’ll let  you watch the featurette and find out for yourself. Check out the video below, and let us know what you think! Pacific Rim opens on July 12th!

Warner Bros. has just released the first TV spot for Guillermo Del Toro’s highly anticipated Pacific Rim. Clocking in at just over 30 seconds, the spot manages to squeeze in a bunch of new footage AND excite the hell out of me. The movie looks fantastic, and coming from Del Toro, I’m sure we won’t be disappointed.

Check out the spot below, and let us know how excited you are!

Following the release of a new trailer for the film, Warner Bros. Pictures & Legendary Pictures have released  a brand new banner for the Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. The banner features a battle between one of the film’s Jaegers and a Kaiju that is sure to be bad news for that bridge.

Pacific Rim hits theaters July 12, 2013

The anticipated release of Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim is fast approaching, and Warner Bros. has just released an awesome new poster for it. The image showcases a Kaiju in the middle of a city, and as expected, destruction is everywhere.

Pacific Rim hits theatres on July 21st, and I couldn’t be more excited. As far as I’ve been told (especially from the lucky folks who were in attendance at the WonderCon panel back in March), we have no idea what we’re getting ourselves into with this one.

Check out the poster below, and let us know how excited you are!

The first TV spot has debuted for the Zack Snyder directed Man Of Steel. The spot consists of mostly previously seen footage but is probably the first of many spots coming for the film.

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.

Man Of Steel soars into theaters June 14, 2013.

That’s right folks. Frank Darabont, director of the incredible adaptation of Stephen King’s The Shawshank Redemption and original (though short lived) showrunner of AMC’s The Walking Dead has a new project on his hands.

Darabont has been tasked with rewriting the script for the film (of which no plot details have yet been revealed). Production is scheduled to begin in March, so he better get to work!

Trouble is also brewing between Legendary Pictures and producers Dan Lee and Roy Lin, who have apparently left the picture. It’s unknown how this will affect the final product, but will likely have a negative impact on the film’s budget (unless some new producers jump on board). For all the details on that kerfuffle (which shouldn’t affect the film creatively), head over to Deadline.

Godzilla is slated to hit theatres (in 3D of course) on May 16th, 2014. Excited?

Ah, nostalgia.

Guillermo Del Toro’s epic monsters versus robots flick Pacific Rim won’t be in theaters until next summer, but with all the hype around the trailer (trust me…you guys are going to lose it when you see it) and the movie in general, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures are taking no time moving forward with the sequel.

Travis Beacham, who worked on the first film, has been hired by Legendary to write the script for the sequel. The script will be co-written by Del Toro, although there’s no word as far as if he will direct the follow up. He has quite a few films on his plate at the moment, but I can’t see him not returning for a sequel to a film that he seemed quite passionate about.

Pacific Rim will hit theaters July 12th, 2013.

Today Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures announced that Godzilla will smash his way back into theaters on May 16th, 2014 in 3D. That date just so happens to be the release date of some other green reptiles as well. That’s right, Godzilla will be going head-to-head with the Michael Bay produced TMNT reboot. Who will come out on top?!

The Godzilla reboot is being directed by Gareth Edwards, who previously directed the movie Monsters. David S. Goyer, David Callaham (Expendables 1 & 2) and Max Borenstein (The Seventh Son) wrote the script.

Based on the fan reaction from the teaser that was shown at Comic Con (just ask Geekscape’s own Shawn Madden) fans have something to look forward to. Hopefully the reboot will make us forget all about the Roland Emmerich/Dean Devlin abomination from the 90’s. But maybe, just maybe we’ll be lucky enough get another P Diddy song that samples Led Zeppelin…just kidding!

With the success of Game Of Thrones and the upcoming The Hobbit: An Unexpected
Journey
hitting screens later this year, it’s no surprise that Legendary are still eager to get an adaptation of the similarly themed World Of Warcraft moving along. However they hit a bit of a speed bump when Sam Raimi, who was originally set to direct, left the project recently.

Now Variety reports that a new writer has been hired to move the project forward. Charles Leavitt, who has previously penned the fantasy flick The Seventh Son for the studio. Next up for the studio is to find a new director. Legendary has quite a bit going on at the moment with numerous upcoming projects and releases so it’s pretty unlikely we would see the movie before 2014. But still this must make fans of the massively popular MMORPG very happy and they may have left their basements to run upstairs and yell out the news.

Just kidding. Kind of.

Legendary Pictures released an official teaser poster Saturday at Comic-Con and we have that for you to check out.

But if this teaser poster isn’t enough to satisfy you we have this. It seems that someone was able to snap a picture of the redesigned Godzilla during the teaser trailer. I can confirm that this is real being that I was in Hall H when this was screened.

Here’s the first poster for Pacific Rim, Guillermo Del Toro’s upcoming movie. Warner Bros has released this exclusively for Comic-Con. The first footage of the movie will be shown on Saturday July 14th from 2:30-5:00 in Hall H during the Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures panel.

From acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro comes Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ epic sci-fi action adventure “Pacific Rim.”

Oscar® nominee Guillermo del Toro (“Pan’s Labyrinth”) is directing “Pacific Rim” from a script by Travis Beacham (“Clash of the Titans”).  Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and Mary Parent are producing, with Callum Greene serving as executive producer.

The film stars Charlie Hunnam (TV’s “Sons of Anarchy”), Idris Elba (“Thor”), Rinko Kikuchi (“The Brothers Bloom”), Charlie Day (“Horrible Bosses”), and Ron Perlman (the “Hellboy” films).  The ensemble cast also includes Max Martini, Robert Kazinsky, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, Diego Klattenhoff, and Brad William Henke.

Del Toro’s behind-the-scenes team includes Academy Award®-winning director of photography Guillermo Navarro, production designer Andrew Neskoromny, editor Peter Amundson, and costume designer Kate Hawley.

Slated for release in Summer 2013, “Pacific Rim” is a presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures.  The film will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
