There’s less than a month to go until the debut of J. Michael Straczynski and Ben Templesmith’s Ten Grand, and I couldn’t be more excited. I’ve been infatuated with Templesmith’s art since the very first time I picked up 30 Days of Night, and Straczynski has a glamorous resume ripe with comics, film, and television.

Image today released the first preview for the upcoming book, and as expected, it looks fantastic. Check out the preview pages below, and let us know what you think!

Joe Fitzgerald was a mob enforcer until the day he met Laura, who convinced him to leave that world behind. Before quitting, Joe agrees to one last job, little realizing that the man he’s been sent to kill was deeply involved in demonlogy. He survives Joe’s attempt and comes after him, fatally wounding Joe and killing Laura. As he lies dying, an angelic force promises that if Joel agrees to work for them as a different kind of enforcer, they will bring him to life and keep on bringing him to life every time he is killed in a righteous cause. The reward: for those five minutes of death, he will be with Laura again. Would you endure an eternity of pain and death, dying over and over, to be with the woman you love for just five minutes each time you died? Most people might say no. But Joe Fitzgerald isn’t most people.

Speaking with MTV Geek at Toy Fair, writer and creator of the series, Todd McFarlane offered an update on the status of the next Spawn film. It was revealed back in 2009 that McFarlane was working on a new film, which would be quite different than the original. The writer reveals that he is still currently working on the script, and that an Oscar-winning actor is on board for the project.

spawn-update-2

“I continue writing pages here and there. I have a guy waiting in the sidelines, an Academy Award-winning actor. Every three weeks he’s on the phone going, ‘Todd, where’s the script? Todd, where’s the script?’ I can’t say who it is. You could [narrow it down].”

“He came out to the office. He gave me his pitch, and I gave him mine. The pitch I gave was that we could do ten of these for the next ten years and he wouldn’t have to be 22 for the rest of his life.”

McFarlane also revealed that there is a new Spawn animated series is in the works, saying that they’re now able to do things that weren’t when working on the HBO series from the late 90’s.

spawn-update-3

“We have 90 minutes all set and ready to go, other than sending it to an animation house. We’ve done all the voice recordings, we’ve done all the backgrounds, so the technology is way better than it was a decade ago; there are some spectacular things we can do now that we weren’t able to when we were on HBO.”

Well, unlike Al Simmons, it appears this project isn’t quite dead yet.

Last month, an unofficial trailer made its rounds, composed of early footage from The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct. The footage was rather underwhelming, and as such, I’m glad it was both early and not official.

Today, Activision released an official trailer for the game, featuring plenty of gameplay, some impressive voicework, and a general idea of just what the game will look like. I’m still not sure that I’m sold on the title, but I’m much more open to giving it a chance after this trailer! Check it out below, and let us know what you think!

The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct is a do-whatever-you-need-to-survive first-person action game that brings the deep, character-driven world of AMC’s Emmy®Award-winning TV series onto console gaming systems and the PC. The game follows the mysterious, crossbow-wielding survivor Daryl Dixon, brought to life by TV series star Norman Reedus, alongside his overbearing brother Merle, voiced by Michael Rooker, on a haunting, unforgiving journey across the Georgia countryside. Players will need to tread carefully on this desperate quest, scrounging for food, water, and ammunition to survive against nightmares both living and undead.

Preorder bonuses for the game have also been revealed, and out outlined below!

GameStop Herd Mode Challenge – How many frenzied flesh-eaters can you survive against before joining their ranks? Take on endless waves of walkers, each more dangerous than the last, in the all-new Herd Mode. Each wave of undead held off brings with it a new outbreak of hungry biters and new opportunities to rack up an even higher score.

Amazon Walker Execution Pack– Give yourself an edge (or five) with this ‘unique’ weapon kit. The Amazon Walker Execution Pack adds multiple melee options to your arsenal, including a survival knife, sawtoothed machete, kukri, reinforced hatchet, and advanced machete. With ammo scarce and the undead attracted to loud noises, a sharp, silent blade might just be your most trusted companion.

So what do you think? The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct releases on March 19 for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, and March 26 for Wii U.

An adaptation of John Layman & Rob Guillory’s series CHEW has been in the works for awhile now,  Stephen Hopkins (24) has been working on a movie adaptation of the series since 2010. Then, a short while ago, it was revealed that there was a small screen adapation in the works with Showtime. Just weeks ago Guillory discussed how work was progressing on the series but it now appears that talks have broken down with Showtime.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that we won’t see a CHEW series come to the small screen, but it definitely doesn’t look good. If you haven’t read the series check out the synopsis for it below:

Tony Chu is a cop with a secret. A weird secret. Tony Chu is Cibopathic, which means he gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats. It also means he’s a hell of a detective, as long as he doesn’t mind nibbling on the corpse of a murder victim to figure out whodunit, and why. It`s a dirty job, and Tony has to eat terrible things in the name of justice. And if that wasn`t bad enough, the government has figured out Tony Chu`s secret. They have plans for him… whether he likes it or not.

With just a few more weeks until The Walking Dead returns from its Winter hiatus, AMC today released a new trailer for the series’ anticipated return. The preview contains plenty of new footage, so if you’re spoiler-sensetive, you may want to avoid it! Otherwise enjoy, because it’s fantastic!

Check out the new preview below, and let us know what you think! The Walking Dead (and Walking Dead Weekly) returns on February 10th!

With his group in tatters, his sanity in question, and his own son questioning his every move, Rick must somehow pull everyone together to face their greatest challenge — the Governor.  In order to survive, he must risk everything, including the group’s very humanity.

Longtime Geekscape friend Sam Humphries drops by Geekscape to talk about his upcoming Marvel book ‘Uncanny X-Force’ and the return of his creator owned book ‘Sacrifice’! Plus! We talk about his work in the Marvel Ultimate Universe and the make up of his X-Force team! That’s right! Puck returns! Also, ‘Todd: The Ugliest Kid On Earth’ writer Ken Kristensen calls in to talk about his new Image book and we preview ‘Movie 43’ with director Peter Farrelly! It’s just another packed episode of Geekscape! No big!

It’s the time to recap the week’s news and events with The Week In Comics! There wasn’t a lot of news this week in regards to comics but there was some pretty big news to report.

Jame Tynion IV Taking Over Writing Duties On Red Hood & The Outlaws

Red Hood And The Outlaws has been one of the New 52’s best titles so far and it looks like it’s getting even better. James Tynion IV (Talon) will be taking over writing duties after Lobdell finishes up his final story arc. [via Bleeding Cool]

Eddie Brock To Become The New “Toxin”

It’s been revealed that Eddie Brock will be returning to the Marvel Universe. But Brock won’t be coming back as Venom nor will he return as Anti-Venom. No, Brock will be returning as a new incarnation of Toxin, and will definitely be coming head to head with The Superior Spider-Man in the future. Cullen Bunn on Eddie Brock as the new Toxin: [via Newsarama]

You’ll start getting glimpses of him before issue #31, but in #31, Toxin returns. There are a lot of people who say, “Eddie Brock should be the only Venom. He’s the only person worthy of being Venom.” My goal, as lofty as it may be, is, I really want people to forget about Eddie as Venom. What [artist] Declan [Shalvey] and I are trying to do is, once we tell this story, I want people to associate Eddie Brock with Toxin.

It’s a lofty goal, because he has such a big history with Venom, but a lot of people really liked when he was Anti-Venom. We want to make Toxin a viable, interesting, dynamic character on his own — the Eddie/Toxin combo, or “Broxin” as I’ve seen him referred. [Laughs.] Our goal is to really make people love and hate and fear Toxin, and Eddie Brock.

When Eddie and Toxin were bonded in “Savage Six,” he was almost like this mindless killing machine. That is not the Toxin you are going to see. I don’t want to say he’s solidly a villain, but for Venom, at least, he is solidly an antagonist. The one thing that Eddie and Toxin have in common is that they both hate Venom — both the symbiote and the man. That solidifies their partnership to some degree.

New Mystery Series Coming From From Brian Wood And Oliver Coipel

This image was tweeted earlier by writer Brian Wood. The future of Marvel is XX? Coming this April is a new series from Brian Wood and Oliver Coipel. One would assume by the X’s that it’s a new X-title. But, we’ve been wrong before. Then again…does the DNA kind of give it away? An official announcement regarding the title will be made some time in the next month.

Phil Noto Taking Over Art Duties On Thunderbolts

Not a fan of the art on the new Thunderbolts title? Well, don’t worry because starting in March the title will see a new artist. Phil Noto (Uncanny X-Force) will be taking over with issue #7 this March. Will he be bring new life to the title or just Frank Castle’s sex life? [via IGN]

But that will also mean he will have Superman’s powers without his conscience, and Kal-El learns to live without powers beyond those of mere mortals.

Here at Geekscape we’re pretty fond of Charlie Adlard. Of course he does some fantastic work on each issue of The Walking Dead, but he was also nice enough to do an interview back at SDCC, and also provided an extremely neat SDCC exclusive poster for the upcoming Geekscape produced Doc of the Dead. Today revealed a neat little piece of Adlard related news that I thought fit to share with fellow fans.

November will see the launch of a new ongoing series that I’ve been looking forward to for some time. Clone follows the tale of a man who discovers that clones of himself exist, and that those clones are coming for his family. Image announced today that Charlie Adlard will be providing a special variant cover for the first issue of the series.

Have a look at the cover below, and let us know what you think! Are you planning to pick up the book?

That’s right: Thanks to the support of fans through Kickstarter and participating comic shops, you can get the first FIVE issues of CYBER FORCE at no cost.

THE WALKING DEAD #103

– It is a new beginning for THE WALKING DEAD.

Rick Grimes is no longer in charge, and nothing will ever be the same again. It’s such a perfect jumping on point, it could easily have been a new first issue – but instead, the world’s best selling creator-owned comic just keeps moving forward, with #103 and counting!

I haven’t been a fan of much of DC’s New 52 but this is sure to be one of their best crossover story arc’s. Jeff Lemire has definitely brought new life to this character and it’s definitely going to be the best DC book out this week.

If you haven’t taken the plunge with Vaughan’s latest, here’s an awesome opportunity. All you need is an iOS or Android device and a copy of ComiXology.

Again, Brian K Vaughan (Y: The Last Man, Ex Machina, Runaways, Lost) spins an elegant, action-packed, gripping tale of love, loss, war, philosophy, and so much more.

This has also been my first taste of artist Fiona Staples, whose insanely vibrant, unbelievably beautiful art is just as evocative as Brian’s work, if not more so. I want more, constantly. I’d cover my walls with it if I could.

There isn’t much more to say. It’s an amazing book, and you can get into it for free right now. But get on it! I’m sure it won’t last long!

Download it now on Comixology!
