tmnt platinum

You just can’t keep good game secrets these days.

It seems as though the Australian ratings board has accidentally put up a rating page for a yet to be announced TMNT game. According to the site, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles In Manhattan is rated M (T for the ESRB?) and is to be developed by none other than Platinum Games and be published by Activision. For those who don’t know, Platinum Games are responsible for many popular games including Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, The Wonderful 101, and more. There’s also a chance that this could be a world premiere game to be shown at The Game Awards 2015 as host Geoff Keighly has stated that there’ll be 10 brand new world premieres during the show.

Are you excited for this premature announcement? What are you hoping to see from the game? Sound off below!

Frog MarioWhile all of us were enjoying a nice Thanksgiving meal with family last night, it seems like Nintendo decided to sneakingly give us a new event course for Super Mario Maker.

This event course in particular is named NES Remix and is based off the Wii U game of the same title. After the completion of the course you will receive a mystery mushroom that’s a bit different than the others. This one is the Frog Mario outfit, and it more or less functions exactly how it would in Super Mario Bros. 3. The only real disappointing thing is that  since this is only a costume, it can only be used in the original Super Mario Bros. art style.

Are you excited for the inclusion of the Frog Suit? Comment below and check out an awesome video tour of the costume by Gamexplain!

Everyone have a nice Thanksgiving Day? Good.

If you’re like me and don’t really care about black friday, then pull up a chair and check out this weeks Super Mario Maker course. This weeks level is Kuribo ShoeDown by Osmariobro.

ShoeDown 1

This is a level that focuses on one of my favorite parts to come out Super Mario Bros. 3, and that of course is the Kuribo Shoe. This level starts as you hijack a flying shoe at the start of a level in order to get to the end. Be careful though, because this level is a race against time as you only have 300 seconds. That may not sound so bad, but there’s no room to mess around as the time dwindles fast.

ShoeDown 2During the level, not only will you have to race to the finish, but you’ll also have to deal with an onslaught of obstacles. Everything from your regular Muncher Plants to giant Dry Bones,  this level won’t go easy on you. Unless of course you can find the secret door warp that takes you to the end of the level. Many more tricks and traps await you in this gauntlet. Try it out for yourself at: 8A9A-0000-00A4-9BC9.

ShoeDown 3Until next time, keep creating and playing awesome levels!

The announcement poster is very reminiscent to Game Informer’s Max Payne 3 cover, and I love it.

About 3 years ago, an indie studio by the name of Vblank Entertainment released an indie game by the name of Retro City Rampage.

The game was essentially an 8-bit parody of the Grand Theft Auto series and was received generally well. Now the same same studio is back and they’re cranking up the graphics dial to a full 16 bits! With better graphics, destructible environments, and more, what not to be hyped about? Head of Vblank Entertainment Brian Provinciano announced the game this morning.

Shakedown Hawaii brings the Vblank open world universe into the 16-bit era, powered up with destructible environments and an arsenal of supercharged weapons. Taking place some thirty years after the events of Retro City Rampage, the game follows The Player as he comes out of early retirement to rebuild his neglected corporate empire.

The game is set to be shown off at the Playstation Experience in San Francisco California from December 5th-6th. Check out the trailer for the game below! Shakedown Hawaii doesn’t currently have a release date, but will be released for PC, and Playstation, Xbox, and Nintendo devices.

ATTENTION! Report in for this today’s featured course!

This week’s featured course comes to us from the user Martyn who has brought us the level Bowser Jr’s Tank Squad. Want a level that re-captures the magic of playing an airship/tank level from world 8? Well this course is just for you! (and everyone else who likes those levels.)Tank Squad 1

Just like the iconic stage in world 8, this level starts off with you running straight into tank territory to take down Bowser Jr’s army. While you might be tempted at first to run headfirst into the level, you might want to refrain from doing that as you can find a super leaf near the start. Grabbing it will make the level a bit more easy as you’ll be able to temporarily hover over the cannon fire and time your landings accordingly. Tank Squad 2

Make it through the hectic battlefield and you’ll be greeted with a final showdown between you and Bowser Jr. Can you successfully navigate your way through the gunfire and tanks to take down the young prince? Find out yourself -by trying the level out at: 4667-0000-0069-597E. Until Next time, keep playing and creating awesome levels!Tank Squad 3

Fans of Hyrule Warriors Eagerly awaiting the 3DS port for next year are in for a treat.

According to NeoGAF user Ryce, the newest issue of the highly popular Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu has revealed that Ganondorf will have a brand new lightning based trident moveset as opposed to his current great sword moveset. Just like the new characters in the game, the new moveset can be easily transferred to the Wii U version also. If you want to see Ganondorf’s great sword moveset check out this awesome reveal trailer that was shown off last year. Hyrule Warriors Legends launches for the 3DS on March 25th 2016.

Another Week, another featured course.

This week, we’re taking a trip into Gruntilda’s Lair to visit a world that seems a little FISHY (I’m sorry no more puns for the rest of the article). That’s right, today’s featured level is a re-creation of Clanker’s Cavern from Banjo Kazooie by user B-Bech.Clanker 1

Using the original Super Mario Bros style, you take control of Banjo and Kazooie (represented by Duck Hunt in game) as you enter through the rusty pipes of Grunty’s lair to find Clanker’s Cavern. Careful where you swim, because at any moment you could get attacked by a Grille Chompa (represented by giant Piranha Plants) hiding in what seems to be an abandoned Pipe. Can you safely make it through the pipes and plants to reach Clanker?

Clanker 2Once you come face to face with Clanker, it’s your job to carefully navigate your way through him. You’ll be trying to find your way out from the top of his blowhole to the inside of his stomach. Will you survive the dangers of Clanker and emerge victorious? To find out, check out the level at: 2167-0000-0098-9A71. Until next time, keep playing and creating awesome levels!Clanker 3

Awesome news for fans of the Yooka-Laylee kickstarter by Playtonic Games!

This morning, Courtesy of IGN, the company revealed a brand new NPC that’ll be appearing in their Banjo-Kazooie spiritual Successor. This new character goes by the name Rextro SixtyFourus and will be the guardian for the hidden arcade machines in each world. While the new Nintendo Direct isn’t scheduled until tomorrow evening at 2PM PST, that hasn’t stopped the company from throwing us an early surprise.

Late last night, Nintendo sneakingly updated the 3DS Nintendo E-shop to include the long awaited Nintendo Badge Arcade app. What is Nintendo Badge Arcade you ask? Easy! Originally released in Japan late last year, this application allows you to collect special badges and pins from crane games so that you can customize your home menu. You can also collect special badges that let you replace some of your regular apps with a different looking launch button for that game. Badge Arcade 1When you first boot up the game you will be given 5 free plays for the crane machine to show you the ropes on how to play. After that you can pay $1 for 5 more plays or $2.00 for 10 more plays, and yes that is real money you’ll have to spend. Why spend money you ask? Sometimes they’ll offer you a free home theme for your 3DS if you spend at least $2 during that promotion time. You can also play the practice mode once every day to get a shot at some more free plays. Badge Arcade 2Are you going to download Nintendo Badge Arcade? What are some of your favorite Badges so far? 35 Years after their last theatrically released movie, The Peanuts gang is back with a brand new film.

Produced by Ice Age and Rio studio Blue Sky Studios and released by 20th Century Fox, The Peanuts Movie hopes to bring back Charles M. Schulz’s beloved characters without having to resort to today’s Hollywood trap of modernizing the series. While initially cautious about the trailer, I can happily say that this is one of the most faithful and respectful adaptions I’ve seen in a very long time.  Whether you’re young or old, there’s always something to enjoy while watching this movie.

Peanuts 1

The movie’s Plot is simple enough. Charlie Brown can’t do anything right. While everyone’s enjoying playing Hockey and building snowmen in the winter, he’s trying to fly a kite instead. It seems like no matter what he tries, he constantly gets laughed at and ridiculed by the neighborhood kids. All this changes though when the little red haired girl moves in across the street. Now in love, Charlie Brown is more determined than ever to prove to the new girl that he’s a winner. While all this is happening, Snoopy writes a daring tale about his encounter with his arch enemy, The Red Baron.Peanuts 2

The animation is absolutely stunning. Blue Sky manages to perfectly pull off just the right mixture of 3D CGI while also maintaining a 2D hand drawn style that’s usually seen in the comic strips. This opens up a very wide variety of facial expressions and really makes these characters seem alive and real. This is the studios most beautiful movie to date. I’d even go as far as to say that it even rivals some of Disney and Pixar’s best.

Peanuts 3

The voice cast is also top notch. Just like the original movies and specials, all characters are voiced by kids who are about the same age as the characters in the movie.  Usually child actors are un-bearable to sit through, but the whole cast here really nails the characters they’re playing. In fact, some characters like Peppermint Patty, Marcie, and Linus really sound like their original actors. They were also able to keep the late Bill Melendez as the voice of Snoopy and Woodstock by using archival footage of his previous recordings.

Peanuts 4

In terms of negatives, it’s really hard to find them with this movie. I guess if there was one common complaint I can agree with it’s that there are about 1-2 Red Baron scenes too many. It really would have been nice to use those 2 scenes to further explore and show more about the neighbor characters. The movie seems to treat the audience like they already know all the characters even though for a good amount of people, this is still their first time experiencing the series.

Peanuts 5

Overall, The Peanuts Movie is one of the most fun and heartwarming movies of the year. Blue Sky Studios should be proud of what they created. With beautiful animation, great voice acting, and a touching story, this new chapter of the adventures of Charlie Brown and his friends are worthy of standing tall with some of their most classic outings. It’s also a great refreshment from some of the other failed adaptions this year *cough* JEM *cough*.
FINAL RATING: 5/5 GO WATCH IT!

It’s finally that time of the year again! After 6 months of silence and wait, Nintendo is finally treating everybody to one last Nintendo Direct for the year.

The direct will happen on November 12th and begin at 2PM Pacific time and will be detailing upcoming and possibly unannounced Wii U and 3DS games for late this year and early next year.

This will be the first Nintendo Direct to not feature Satoru Iwata due to his passing this last July. Hopefully they can still live up to Iwata’s legacy and deliver and fun filled direct.

What do you hope to see during the presentation? Sound out below!

Jem and the Holograms was always a special case when it came to children’s programming.

Much like the recent success of My Little Pony, Jem and the Holograms premiered on October 26th 1985 with the intention to be just another tie in cartoon aimed at young girls through Hasbro’s eyes. However, the team behind the show decided to treat the show with as much respect as they would with any regular TV show. Some of its appeal came from the fact that it was an animated soap opera that both boys & girls of all ages can enjoy.  You’d think that with Hollywood’s recent obsession to make crazy experimental movies off of 80’s-90’s properties with big budgets that surely Jem would fit in perfectly.

Enter 2015’s Jem and the Holograms, a film supposedly “based” off of said beloved franchise. Directed and produced by the same people who made 2 documentaries centering on Justin Bieber and the production house that made Paranormal Activity, surely this could only end well right? Sadly, what follows is an under budgeted, cheaply made, clichéd rags to riches story that feels more like an after school special and barley even resembles its source material. Where do I begin?Jem 1

Let’s start with story.  Here’s the synopsis of the animated series lifted directly from the season 1 DVD:

Upon the death of her father, Jerrica Benton inherits Starlight Music and finds herself the new co-owner executive alongside the greedy, power-hungry Eric Raymond. Eric is on a mission to seize complete control of Starlight Music, as well as, use it to launch to stardom his latest discovery — rockin’ rebel girl band The Misfits.

With the help of Synergy, a computer holographic machine created by her father, and a pair of special jemstar earrings, Jerrica is able to transform into the megapop sensation named Jem! With her sister, Kimber, and their band, The Holograms, Jem undertakes a battle-of-the-bands competition against Eric and The Misfits for control of Starlight Music. Can Jerrica keep her superstar identity a secret? Will The Misfits rock the charts? Will Synergy fall into the hands of evil? Watch and find out!

Jem 2

Sounds pretty cool huh? Well forget about all that because nothing mentioned above is carried to the film. Instead, we get a story about 18/19 year old Jerrica Benton who’s insecure about her singing. One night she throws on a pink wig and some make-up to record her singing under the mysterious name Jem. The next day Jerrica wakes up to find out that her sister Kimber uploaded the video to YouTube, and now Jem has become instantly internet famous to a point where she is offered a recording contract for only having 30,000 views on her video. This quickly turns her whole life upside down and now she has to struggle between her 2 identities to find out who she really is.

As you can tell, the plot follows the generic, paint by numbers story of some regular Joe Shmoe that’s all of a sudden thrust into popularity. It also doesn’t help that just like Jerrica; this movie suffers heavily from an identity crisis. At one point it wants to be a modern teen drama movie, other times it’s trying to force in un-necessary subplots that add virtually nothing to the film. Some subplots include going on a tedious treasure hunt trying to find the missing pieces of their robot Synergy so they can recover a hidden surprise that Jerrica’s father was trying to hide. The other includes a very tiresome and cliché story of Jerrica, the evil corporate band manager, trying to force Jem into signing a solo contract.
Jem 4

The only problem is that the movie is so confused on what it wants to be that nothing comes together in the end, and as a result, the movie just ends up being a giant mess.  It also doesn’t help that the characters are more bland and dry than a loaf of white bread sitting out in the sun. I’ll give them credit that the cast at least tries to make their roles convincing, it’s just too bad that they have to suffer due to the clunky script or awful mis-casting. Such mis-casting is 28 year old Ryan Guzman as Rio who in the movie is trying to pass himself off as an 18 year old college intern/son of Erica Raymond. It’s so laughably bad the dialogue he’s given that it’s impossible to take him seriously every time he’s on screen.
Jem 3

Another major problem with the movie is the music. In the show, there were usually 2-3 songs per episode that lasted about 45 seconds to a minute, making for some quick, but catchy songs. The movie however, tries in some areas, but sadly ends up botching them. Besides sounding like the most generic and manufactured pop songs, are too long and very forgettable.

This is another area where the movie really fails hard since you need good music in a movie adaptation that’s all about music. The worst thing about the audio is that they don’t even use their own background music. During what’s supposed to be a tense or emotional scene the background music chosen will start playing. The problem with this however, is that these BGM’S are taken from random people on YouTube playing their own music and for some reason the film seems to think randomly cutting in grainy low quality footage of said music videos would be a good idea (it isn’t.)Jem 5

Thought you heard the worst? Well I’m sorry to say, but the worst is yet to come.  When it comes to scene changes and transitions they will more often than not resort to using Google Earth. I know this film was made on a small budget of $5 million, but do they really have to be that lazy. I counted at least 6-7 times where they used this lazy excuse of transition (you can still see the Google Earth logo lazily cropped in the lower right hand corner of the screen.)

Finally, the worst part of this film is it’s mis-treatment of fans and lazy excuse of “cameos.” Throughout her rise to fame, the movie will start random cutting to cameos talking about Jem. These include Chris Pratt, Jimmy Fallon, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The only problem? It’s all archival footage. The Pratt interview was taken from a Lego Movie Interview with USA Today in which he talks about growing up with the Jem dolls and pretending to date them. The Fallon interview comes from an old episode where he and a guest reminisce about the 80’s cartoon. The 3rd and most offensive is The Rock’s cameo which was just a very low quality video that was actually about him praising Taylor Swift’s song Bad Blood.

Jem 6

At the end of the day though, the fans themselves were treated the worst. When the film was originally announced, they made it a point to tell the online world that they were doing open casting for the film and that you had a chance to land a starring role in the film if you expressed how much you love Jem to them. What ended up happening was that they ended up using that footage randomly throughout the movie to show her rise in internet popularity.  The absolute biggest insult to this is that throughout all the videos you’re constantly seeing the 80’s logo and show in the background and right in front of the camera.  This alone was enough to pull me out of the movie and feel sorry for all the fans that got gipped of a proper appearance as initially advertised.

The only good thing about this movie was the end credits scene. That one scene was the only time the movie actually felt like it was actually putting in effort to be a real Jem movie. The only problem? The film ends after that.

Hint Hint.
Hint Hint.

So, after all of this should you still go see Jem and the Holograms? Yes. This is one of those rare movies that comes along every couple of years or so that completely fails in what it’s trying to do and is so horrendously bad that you have to watch it to believe it. If somehow there’s a theater near you showing this film, you should either try sneaking into it, or just going to another movie and then catching the end credits scene at least. If you want to see a more faithful adaption movie, go see The Peanuts Movie.

FINAL RATING: 0.5/5 WATCH IT! (or just watch the after credits scene)

It’s hard to believe it’s already been 4 months since the passing of Nintendo president and CEO Satoru Iwata.

Ever since his untimely death on July 11th, many people are still finding it hard to believe that he has passed on. Since then, there have been many loving tributes to Iwata whether they were images, videos, or even music. Today, Metal Gear Solid and Bayonetta composer  Norihiko Hibino and japanese pianist AYAKI have come together to compose a loving tribute track for the deceased president. The title is called: Prescription for Peace: A Tribute to the Departed and contains a very touching Iwata tribute to the tune of Earthbound’s Onett.

The song is available to listen for $1 or more to cover licensing fees to Nintendo, however, all additional revenue will go to The American Cancer Society. If you’d like to listen and purchase the track for yourself, Check it out right HERE! Rest in peace Mr. Iwata, we all miss you.iwata (1)

Another week, another featured course.

This week I’m highlighting the 1st out of many different levels starring everyone’s favorite garlic munching, money grubbing ball of fat. This is Super Wario: Rural Ruins by Joe. Super Wario 1The title pretty much explains itself. In this level, you take control of Wario as he finds himself exploring some lost ruins in search of treasure. Throughout the level you’ll explore caves, fight enemies, and even solve some tricky puzzles. There are also 3 diamonds hidden throughout the whole level. Will you be brave enough to venture off the beaten path to find them?Super Wario 2On top of that, there are also a handful of hidden 1-UP’S scattered throughout the levels entirety. Will you be able to leave the ruins in riches, or will the ruins make a relic out of you? The chose is yours to make. If you’re feeling brave enough, give it a try at: 3404-0000-00A0-20DA. Until next time, Keep making and creating awesome levels! Super Wario

Super Mario Maker just released a new update that adds, checkpoints, event courses, and more!

Also to be expected, Nintendo has yet again gone an extra step to include a new easter egg. This particular easter egg in question though could be a hint at future planned updates for the game. What am I talking about you may ask? In a recent video uploaded by Gamexplain, they showed off a new easter egg that allows you to knock on the doors that you can spawn in the course maker.

Now normally this wouldn’t be anything amazing, but something actually happens when you knock on them. after a couple of knocks or so, the weird mushroom Mario will appear at the door and poke his head out at you. The big secret here is that if you do this in different art styles, the easter egg will change. You can find him wearing anything from a flying cape and raccoon tail (which are already in the game), to a frog suit, hammer bro suit, and even the penguin/ice suit! Could these just be fun little nods, or a hint at another big content update coming to the game in the future?

Check out the secret in action below and decide for yourself.

Avast me hearties!

It seems like the results of the Pirates Vs. Ninjas Splatfest are in! While pirates were absolutely crushed by ninjas in terms of popularity with 28%-72%, the pirates picked themselves up and raided the ninjas base with a win percentage of 59%-41%. This resulted in a final score of 382-318. It should also be noted that Splatfest rules have recently been changed to make it so that Popularity isn’t as powerful as most people think it is.pirates win

What’s next for Splatfest after this? Guess we just have to wait and see (WOO Pirates!).

What’s this? 2 featured Donkey Kong courses in a row? Madness!JH1This weeks Course is a really nice re-creation of the first Level of the original SNES classic, Donkey Kong Country by Matt. Using the Super Mario World style, the level is very faithfully designed to look like Jungle Hijinx from the moment the level begins. While there’s sadly no DK house to enter, all other aspects from the DKC games are present. Even the Kong’s Banana (now coin) hoard is fully intact. JH3Even all the secret bonus rooms that you remember from the original game have been implemented in the level (can you still find them all?) All in all this may be one of the more simpler levels that I’ve highlighted, but rest assured, there’s still fun to be had.If you’re interested in playing this level you can give it a go at: 12CB-0000-0043-E295. Until next week, keep creating and playing awesome levels!JH2

Nintendo just concluded their recent Shareholders meeting, and among the many announcements was the reveal for their first ever mobile game.

Miitomo will release March 2016 and seems to be a cross between Streetpass Mii Plaza and the surprise 2014 3DS game Tomodachi Life. President Tatsumi Kimishima explained to the investors how the game will work.

Looks like Miis go ahead and communicate with other Miis without your knowledge. This will help people who are hesitant to talk about themselves to communicate with others, and reveal a side of your friends you never knew

In the new “Miitomo” game, users will design their own avatars, or “Miis,” to communicate with other users. Executive Shinya Takahashi says that Nintendo will find ways to encourage people who are hesitant to talk to share things about themselves.

Check out an image from the game below! Are you excited for Miitomo?nintendomiitomo

Get ready, guys & gals, because Super Mario Maker is getting a small, but very important update.

The free update will be released on November 4th, and will include some much-needed additions that fans have been clamoring for, such as mid-level checkpoints and multiple power-ups in question mark boxes.

They’ll also be adding special level events, which we don’t really know anything about at this point, but ooooh new stuff.

Check out the trailer below and get hyped! Now all we need are slopes and the Angry Sun!

Nintendo has just announced the date and time for their new Splatfest, and boy is it a doozy.

The new Splatfest will take place on October 30th at 9:00 PM PST, and will go through until 9:00 PM PST, just in time for Halloween night. Which side will you choose? (Pirates all the way!)

I love Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.

To me, it’s the best Wii U game I’ve played so far. Developer Retro Studios was able to really take the concept they made with Donkey Kong Country Returns and improve upon it 10 fold. And, what better way then for fans to show their love for the game by re-making some of the levels in Super Mario Maker. Today’s Course of the Week is a re-creation of the level Sawmill Thrill by Sambob.
Sawmill Thrill 1Just like its actual counterpart, the level starts you riding a minecart outside of a run down sawmill.  After a while, you’re then blasted into the sawmill as you jump, duck, and dodge oncoming saw blades while also trying to avoid falling to your death. Those wanting to play this level, be warned. The title of this course is no joke as it’s just as a challenge as it was in the actual game. Sawmill Thrill 2Heck, I’m still trying to beat this level as of writing this article. Even though only a handful of people have played it, there’s still a course completion of 0.00%. Think you have what it takes to be the 1st one to beat it? Try it here at: 47BD-0000-0096-8DC9. Until then, Keep on playing and creating awesome levels!Sawmill Thrill 3

Nintendo has just released a brand new trailer for Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash, and the result is. . . . . Disappointing.

The new trailer shows off 6 characters across 5 different courts playing a regular round of tennis before grabbing a mega mushroom and growing to giant size. Other than that, nothing else is known about the game. This is troubling for a number of reasons since the past console iterations have had plenty of other modes, courses, characters, and challenges. The other problem is that the game is set to release November 20th. (1 month away!)

Is nintendo holding back info on the game or is this all there is to see? Hopefully the first option. In the meantime, the best thing to do is remain cautiously optimistic and check out the trailer yourself.

The Jackbox Party Pack 2 is anything but an ordinary party game.  It’s an experience.

Releasing almost a year after the first one, The Jackbox Party Pack 2 is more of the same wacky humor you’ve come to expect, but with completely different games. So, is this the party of the year, or should you not bother with an RSVP? Just like my Rare Replay review, I’m not sure if I can do this game justice by giving it a regular review. That’s why I’ve decided to take a look at each of the 5 games separately and talk about what did and didn’t work.  Jackbox 2 opening

Fibbage 2:

Out of all five games in the original party pack, this is the only returning game to the sequel, but for a reason.  Fibbage 2 is still as charming and funny as it was when it debuted. For those who don’t know: Fibbage is a game where the players are given a true statement with a missing answer. The players, then, type in their own lies in hopes of the other players being fooled into thinking that it’s real. The updated sequel adds hundreds of new facts as well as a new DeFIBrillator which for one round can get rid of all lies but one, thus leaving you with only two choices. There’s really nothing bad to say about this game as it’s one of the best in the collection. Definite play if you’re picking the game up.Wed_Oct_14_20-48-14_PDT_2015

Quiplash XL:

Originally starting out as a small Kickstarter project earlier this March, Quiplash is another pre-existing game that has been updated for this new collection. This game tasks players with competing against each other to see who has a better response for the current on screen prompt. What do you NOT want to find in a burrito: A half-eaten turd or a dead rat? If there’s a downside to this it’d have to be that the game can end a little prematurely with only 3-4 people, so it’s best you play with at least 6-8 people. With 100’s of different questions and the ability to have over 1000 people playing at once, you’re in for one game you won’t forget anytime soon.Wed_Oct_14_20-50-19_PDT_2015

Bidiots:

Now we’re getting into the new games. Bidiots is a new drawing game that’s been stated to be the spiritual successor to one of the previous party pack titles, Drawful. In this game, you and your friends are a group of people at an art auction, and it’s your job to create and sell art for the auction in order to please your rich art clients. In-between rounds, you’ll get hints from your clients telling you what the prices on specific items are so you don’t end up over or under bidding on it.

You can also get free $1000 loans from the bank in order to ensure you have enough money to buy art pieces. Beware though, because at the end of the game you lose 1,500 points for each loan you take. Even though the game has some really good ideas and potential, the game ends up becoming a bit confusing at times with people not knowing what to do. While I do commend the team for trying something new with drawing games, it ultimately ends up being the weakest game of the pack. It’s good for a play every now and then, but not all the time.Wed_Oct_14_20-49-11_PDT_2015

Earwax:

I’m just going to say it right now in advance. Out of all the new games in this collection, Earwax is the game you’ll have the most fun with. Think Apples to Apples or Cards Against Humanity, but with sound effects instead. Each round, a judge is picked to determine a category, and afterwards, the rest of the players must choose 2 options from a list of 6 randomized sound effects. Once everyone’s done, Players get to vote on what they think was their favorite answer, but in the end it’s up to the judge to determine the winner. Sound effects are very varied and range from things such as an anvil dropping on someone’s head to a crying baby.

Not to mention Fart Noises.  Lots and lots of fart noises. If there was one problem with the game though, it’d have to be that you can’t preview the sounds you choose. So, the first couple of times you play it might be a guessing game to see how well some sounds interact with others. Although, I can see why they didn’t as that’d make the game too loud and give away your answers. All in all, this is a must play if you’re planning on buying this game.Wed_Oct_14_20-49-50_PDT_2015

Bomb Corp:

This game is just weird; like really weird. In Bomb Corp, you and up to 3 players are hired at a bomb defusing company. Your job is to defuse as many bombs as you can in one day (while also filing the occasional paperwork.) The only catch with these tasks are that depending on how many people are playing, instructions on how to complete the tasks are scattered throughout everyone’s devices using the game. The humor is spot on as most of the characters joke about how they can die at any moment while also talking about other nonsensical things during their break. If you want to take a serious shot at beating this, it’s best to play by yourself, but if you and all your friends are drunk or just want to yell at each other, this is another great party game to play together.Wed_Oct_14_20-54-49_PDT_2015

Overall:

Overall, The Jackbox Party Pack 2 is the most fun I’ve had with a party game since last year’s Jackbox Party Pack. The team really tried something new with these 5 games and didn’t want to just re-skin the 1st pack. While Bidiots feels like a slight misfire, other games like Earwax, Fibbage 2, and more make this collection even more memorable than its predecessor. If you haven’t picked up the game yet, I strongly suggest dropping $25 on both collections if you haven’t yet, because you’re going to be in for one hell of a family game night. The Jackbox Party Pack is Available now to Download on PS3, PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Amazon Fire TV.

Final Score: 5/5 BUY IT!!!

This week’s Super Mario Maker Course is a treat for you guys.

Courses like this are why I chose to start this weekly article in the first place. Do you like Wario? How about microgames? Well, this week’s course is a re-creation of the game Warioware Inc by Steve.WVW69ifAldkSL24wbq

This course takes all the things you love about Warioware, and compresses it into a short, but sweet level. Anything you can think of is there (even the music and microgame transitions.) As Wario, you’ll travel through an assortment of 5 microgames that seem awfully familiar. Everything from Dodging incoming obstacles, to collecting as many coins as you can without getting hit by a koopa shell.WVW69ifAehg6zXNRzc

Week 3 already?

Are the days really going by that fast? Never mind, Let’s announce the featured course for this week. This week I was able to find a more puzzle oriented level. While it looks difficult on the outside, it is, but not as hard as you’d expect. This is the level known as: Walk Koopa Home (Don’t lose him) by former Nintendo Power editor Chris Slate.Slate 1The level starts out simple enough. You have been tasked with walking a giant Green Koopa home. You start by raising him up out of a pit he fell in and continue from there. While the level starts off pretty normal and calm, DON’T BE FOOLED! It may look like a ride through the park but it’s anything but that (probably a walk through the industrial park.) Slate 2Fire, sawblades, magikoopas, and more await you as just try to walk this poor animal home so that he can be safe once more. If you’re interested in playing Mr. Slate’s level you can do so at: 65E7-0000-0077-A6A4. Also, if you’re a fan of his older work on Nintendo Power, you can give a listen to a brand new podcast he started with another former NP editor Chris Hoffman. The podcast is called Power Pros and you can find it right HERE! Until next time, Keep playing and creating awesome levels!

Released last year in November, The Jackbox Party Pack was created as a way to bring back the somewhat dying tradition of having a group of people gather around to have a game night.

Not only were you able to play with friends and family around you, but you could also invite virtually anyone by having them play with their phones, tablets, and PC, making the game extremely easy to stream. As a result, the game ended up exploding in popularity (twitch specifically). Now, almost a year later, Jackbox Games invites you once more to gather (or kidnap) all your friends and family for another round of insanity. Old favorites such as Fibbage & Quiplash return while new games such as Bidiots, Earwax, and Bombcorp seem to take a different approach from what the previous pack offered.

And the best part? The game launches NEXT WEEK for Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Amazon Fire TV! In the meantime, mark your calendars and enjoy this delightfully quirky trailer for the game.

It seems like the line between Console and Mobile games are starting to become a bit murky for some developers.

Today, it was revealed that the upcoming Xbox One title Rise of the Tomb Raider, will be doing some raiding of its own in the form of microstransactions. These optional payments come in the form of what they’re calling, “Expedition Cards.” While these will not be part of the story mode, it will play a part outside of it. By purchasing Expedition Cards in the store, you can unlock random modifiers for additional modes.

These include better weapons and armor, alternate costumes, and even a big head mode (Remember when that used to be a cheat you could put in for free?). Even though, you can still pay for these items using in game currency, having the option to pay real cash makes it feel like the game will make earning gold a slow and tedious chore. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how this affects the game long term. Rise of the Tomb Raider launches for Xbox One on November 10th.

After 2 years of exclusivity, It seems like Sonic Lost World is jumping ship to PC later this year.

Announced earlier today on twitter, Sonic Lost World will be blasting its way to steam November 2nd. Its initial Wii U release garnered mixed reviews so it’ll be interesting to see if Sega improves or changes anything about the game. Even though this is a great chance for new people to try out the game, it seems like many Wii U owners are a little snake bit seeing as how the game was originally a Nintendo Exclusive. Hey, at least Nintendo owners still have a great exclusive Sonic game. Right?Sonic BoomUhhhhh, never mind. Anyone up for a round of Mario and Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics?
