We at Geekscape Games never miss the chance to try out the newest games, so when we were fortunate enough to be invited by Nintendo to preview their holiday games, we made sure to be there!

After being announced, Pokemon Let’s Go has been a source of controversy with dedicated fans of the series. Leaning into Pokemon Go in terms of game play and connectivity, restricting the game’s roster to the original 151 Pokemon, and serving as a remake of a game that’s already been remade are just some of the concerns players have had. With the lack of traditional battles against wild Pokemon, online trades being impossible for the first time in over a decade, and an overall simplified version of an already simple game, the concerns were warranted. Fortunately, after playing the game for ourselves, we found that the blend of Go mechanics with a core Pokemon game makes for a promising spinoff that will do well to hold us over while we wait for the next main entry next year.

Exploring Viridian Forest showed instantly that the graphical upgrade makes this old environment look new, with random encounters being replaced with Pokemon on the field. The colored rings around them let you know how big or small they will be, while using berries once you encounter them will alter the difficulty of the catch or the rewards that come with it. Just like Pokemon Go, catching is determined by throwing the ball at the Pokemon, with additional point bonuses depending on whether or not you throw it within the progressively shrinking ring around them. Since battles aren’t possible in the wild, all Pokemon in your party get EXP just for catching, with bonuses being attributed to the previously mentioned timed throws, by catching them on the first throw, or if your throw was perfectly synchronized with your partner when playing with the jump in / jump out co-op mode. When encountering trainers however, the game was much more traditional, with the standard four attack setup per Pokemon with various strengths and weaknesses depending on the types of the Pokemon battling. Playing co-op almost felt like cheating when combat would turn into a two-on-one beatdown.

Our 11 minutes with the game was brief, but what we found was the foundation of a worthy entry for the long-running series. Check out our game play video below, and let us know what you think!

Yu-Gi-Oh: Code of the Duelist is finally upon us, and with it, a new generation of the long running card game makes its official arrival.

As mentioned in our Link Strike starter deck overview, the game is changing in huge ways. With new limitations on the Extra Deck, an increased focus on field positioning, and extra support for older cards to help them keep up with the new format, even veteran duelists are going to have to approach the game in a new way.

In addition to the introduction of Link Monsters like Gouki the Great Ogre, who uses the opponent’s Defense Points against them, and Missus Radiant, who supports Earth monsters while pulling them out of the grave, Pendulum, Xyz, Ritual and Synchro monsters all return in the latest expansion. While many old strategies are taking a backseat, that’s not to say some popular archtypes won’t be pulled along for the ride.

Check out our unwrapping video below and see some of these cards yourselves. What cards are you hoping to pull from your sets, and how do you feel about the new format? Be heard in the comment section below!

The past seven days have been big for amiibo collectors out there. After over a year of anticipation, the Super Smash Bros line is finally complete with the release of Cloud, Corrin and Bayonetta. If that wasn’t enough, three new Inklings hit the scene day and date with Splatoon 2, while the Pikmin themselves made their solo debut in plastic form today, lining up with the release of Hey! Pikmin on the 3DS.

As if the addiction wasn’t apparent enough, we’ve gathered all ten and have unboxed them for your viewing pleasure. Check out the video below to see them up close, and let us know which ones are your favorites in the comments! Don’t forget to subscribe!

As the final Splatfest came to a close, it was Team Marie who narrowly beat out Team Callie in both popularity and wins. With that final victory, it was time for Inklings around the world to say goodbye to one of the most enjoyable aspects of Splatoon, where players voted and fought for their favorite option between two choices in monthly competitions. Now that the dust has settled and all battles have been fought, it’s time to look back on the past year of contests and see how our choices stacked up.

With a feature that started with Team Dog vs. Team Cat, Splatfests grew to include some incredible crossovers that featured Autobots vs. Decepticons, Pokemon Red vs. Pokemon Blue, and SpongeBob vs. Patrick. Looking back, could any of us had predicted that an arena shooter made by a company that was as far removed from the genre as you could imagine would grow to be so popular?

For those keeping score, despite losing the final Splatfest, Team Callie came out on top overall, with nine wins versus Marie’s seven. That’s not to say there wasn’t a certain level of controversy throughout, considering the way scoring was tallied was changed a few times over the last year. With more popular teams having a harder time finding opponents to play against, they would often fight their own teammates while the opposite team would have more chances to build up wins. Still, Marie would go on to close a 7-2 lead to come within striking distance of coming out with more wins, although some would argue that the final Splatfest is all that matters. One way or another, no matter what side of the debate you’re on, I’m guessing we can all agree on one thing…

Final Splatfest Dialogue

How often did the results go your way? Were you able to save up a ton of Super Sea Snails? And how are you going to go on with your life knowing there won’t be any Splatfests to look forward to? Look back on the last year of Splatoon in the video below and share your thoughts with us!

One of the most  disappointing aspects of the sudden cancellation of Disney Infinity is that the development team at Avalanche Games had no idea it was coming. The team had recently hinted at a list of future content, some of which we knew about, (such as the fan voted Peter Pan,) and others we assumed would stay locked away in the planning stages. Well, thanks to alleged insider sources releasing exclusive details of what could have been to the Disney Infiniteers YouTube channel, they’re latest reveal is straight up heartbreaking.

In the video below, it shows that Spider-Gwen was planned as being one of the game’s next big Marvel releases, with the expectation being that she would be a very popular figure. With her unique base featuring her perched on a brick building with that kick-ass pose, it’s no wonder why. Alongside the Doctor Strange toy that was shown in a previous video, it shows that the team was serious when it came to expanding the super hero side of their line-up, making it even worse knowing that they’ll never see the light of day.

With Gwen Stacy being one of my favorite comic book characters while Disney Infinity was my favorite Toys To Life game, this news is especially frustrating for me. I almost feel like I would have rather not known, but I can appreciate how the design team would have crafted another amazing figure that does the character justice yet again. Is there hope that Disney could release the figure without game integration down the road? I wouldn’t bet on it, but I’ll hold on to my misguided hope. It’s all I have left!

Check out Gwen in all her glory below, then let us know what your thoughts are on the rest of the unreleased characters in the comments!

Briefly: Sony sure seems pretty confident these days.

And with more consoles sold than the competition this generation, and coming off of a great 2015 lineup (aside from The Order: 1886, I suppose), why wouldn’t they be?

That confidence continues into 2016, where the company has once again deemed that this year the PS4 will be ‘The Best Place to Play’. Sony has just debuted an exciting video detailing just some of the exclusives and firsts coming to the Playstation 4 throughout this year, and while a myriad of these titles are bound to be delayed (as is the style in this generation), this year looks to be another phenomenal year to be a gamer.

And this is just one company. With a plethora of Nintendo titles on the way, and some great looking Xbox One exclusives coming in 2016, where the heck do we even begin?

Take a look at the video below, and be sure to let us know what you’re looking forward to this year.

It’s no secret that thanks to its recent revival, Sailor Moon is a hot topic amongst geeks the world over. So when you’re a a talented artist or animator, what’s the best way to celebrate the series coming back into the limelight? Naturally, you recreate one of the original series’ most interesting episodes with over 200 different animation styles, right?

That’s what Moon Animate Make Up set out to do in late 2013, and the result is fantastic. Throughout the 23 minute episode, we’re treated to Western style animation, Japanese anime style animation that fits closely to the original, we get crude art that looks like it was taken from an episode of Ren and Stimpy. We got puppets, people. Puppets! They even animated the Sailor Says segment at the end! Bonus points for using one of my favorite episodes as the subject.

You just have to watch the video for yourself if you have a half hour to spare. And if you don’t, make one. You’ll thank us later.
