Briefly: They’ve been teasing it all week, and here it is, folks! The first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2!

Are there too many villains? How does the new suit look in motion? Does Electro still look dumb? Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know! The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theatres on May 2nd!

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

Briefly: Following the triptych poster released earlier today, Sony has debuted five new images from The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

The stills don’t reveal much from the film, but we do get to see Spidey in action (and dodging electricity), as well as another look at Jamie Fox as Electro.

Take a look at the images below, and let us know what you think! The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theatres on May 2nd, and look for the first trailer this Thursday!

And here’s a new synopsis for the film:

Briefly: Remember that low-res spy shot of the new The Amazing Spider-Man 2 poster that we showed you last week? Preceding the debut of the film’s first trailer this Thursday, that poster has been officially released.

It (of course) shows off Electro, but also totally features a HUGE, mechanized looking Rhino, and a Martin Short in The Santa Clause 3-esque Green Goblin.

Take a look at the full image below (click for larger), and be sure to let us know what you think! Look for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer this Thursday!

In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

Briefly: An eagle-eyed theatregoer snapped a photo of the first official poster for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 after a showing of Disney’s Frozen tonight.

The image looks to feature our first official look at Paul Giamatti’s Rhino, as well as the Green Goblin (wasn’t he supposed to be a surprise villain). The photo is pretty low quality, but we’ll be sure to share a higher-res version as soon as it’s available.

Take a look at the image below, and let us know what you think! The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theatres on May 2nd, 2014!

Briefly: There may be three The Amazing Spider-Man films currently in the works, but that’s not all that Sony has planned for the franchise.

During a presentation to investors earlier this week, Sony Pictures Entertainment Co-Chairman Amy Pascal stated that “We are going to access Marvel’s full world of Spider-Man characters, so be on the lookout for new heroes and villains.”

Deadline reports that Sony Pictures Entertainment chief Michael Lynton later added “We do very much have the ambition about creating a bigger universe around Spider-Man. There are a number of scripts in the works.”

The Spider-Man franchise is obviously a hugely popular one (so far grossing over 3-billion dollars worldwide), but did anyone else already feel as though Sony was getting a little sequel happy when they announced three new films at once? Now there are spinoffs in the works too? Does this mean we’ll be seeing a franchise-related film every six-months sometime in the next few years?

If all the films were high enough quality, then I’d be all for it. The Amazing Spider-Man was definitely a disappointment however, so I’m not really sure how to feel about this development.

Are you looking forward to more films in the franchise? What heroes or villains would you like to see receive spinoffs? Sound out below!

The best promises are the ones you can’t keep.

Briefly: Sony has revealed a trio of new stills from next year’s anticipated The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

None of the new images reveal much of the feature, but we do get another look at Jamie Fox as Electro, Peter and Gwen staring longingly at each other, and… Spider-Man playing a fireman.

I hate it.

Sure, it could work in a comic book as a quick little gag or a panel to lighten up a serious situation, but it just looks silly here. Maybe the image is out of context and everything is much better than it looks here… but I’m not holding my breath.

Take a look at the new images below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the film! The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theatres on May 2nd, 2014. The first trailer will release next month with The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

Briefly: Fans of Beenox’s 2012 The Amazing Spider-Man video game received some awesome news today at New York Comic-Con: the developer is working on The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Beenox revealed that while the game ties-in with the events of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the story is original, and will see Spidey again on the hunt for uncle Ben’s killer.

The sequel will also introduce a new heroism system called “Hero or Menace” in which you’re rewarded for stopping crime, but punished if you don’t keep it up. More interesting, the narrative will actually have Peter Parker bits for players to experience.

As Spidey, players will be able to free-roam through a greatly-enhanced Manhattan cityscape, one set to offer livelier, more engaging opportunities with which to put his sensational skills to use. Central to the expansive depth and detail being poured into The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game is the new “Hero or Menace” system, which incentivizes Super Hero behavior by rewarding the web-slinger’s crime-fighting efforts, and adds consequences for letting criminality fester. Spider-Man’s personal brand of web-swinging and up-close-and-personal combat will see a variety of new features as well.

This all sounds pretty damn good to me. As much as I disliked the film, I had an absolute blast swinging through the world of the first Amazing Spider-Man game. It sounds like Beenox has taken criticisms of the first title to heart, and I’m sure they’re release a much more varied, much more polished, and much more fun sequel.

I can’t wait.

Watch the first teaser trailer for the game below, and let us know if you’re excited!

Briefly: The Amazing Spider-Man 2‘s Harry Osborn, Dane DeHann, took to twitter today to debut a new image from next year’s highly anticipated film.

The image shows Harry and Peter in the Oscorp building. Harry rests comfortably in what is likely his father’s chair, while Peter stands beside an expensive-looking desk. Both characters are looking at something off-camera, perhaps watching a screen, or even speaking to another figure. It’s not the most exciting photo, but it’s certainly cool to see Harry in action.

Take a look at the new image below, and let us know what you think! What are you hoping to see in the The Amazing Spider-Man 2?

This week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly is (of course) an annual Comic Con preview issue.

What better to grace the cover than one of the biggest comic book movies to be shown off next week, The Amazing Spider-Man 2? The cover features our first official look at Jamie Foxx as Electro, gives us a much better look at Garfield’s new spider-suit, and the issue also features a first image of Dane Dehaan’s Harry Osborn.

Take a look at the shots below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to this one. Which side of The Amazing Spider-Man fence do you sit on?

Just yesterday it was revealed that the character of Mary Jane Watson had been cut from next year’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and would instead first surface in The Amazing Spider-Man 3 in 2016. Director Marc Webb seemed positive about Shailene Woodley’s portrayal of the character, but the rumour mill began churning last night that the role would be recast.

This is where things get interesting. According to ET Canada, Canadian actress Sarah Gadon has just joined the franchise in an unspecified role.

Has Woodley been recast in just one day? Could Sarah Gadon be the new Mary Jane Watson?

We’ll let you know when we get the official word on this one, it seems a little far fetched to me, but stranger things have happened this week. In the meantime, let is know if you would be for or against the change-up!

Update: Gadon has revealed via twitter that she is in the film, but will not portray Mary Jane Watson. Felicia Hardy, maybe? She certainly looks the part.

sarahgadon

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 already sounds like it has too much going on… so cutting what would be a prominent character can only be seen as a good idea.

Shailene Woodley has revealed that her portrayal of Mary Jane Watson will not appear in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Instead, the character has been pushed to the third film, which was announced earlier this week. Understandably, she can’t be thrilled with the fact that her character has been cut, but definitely seems to get why it was necessary. “Of course I’m bummed,” Shailene stated. “But I’m a firm believer in everything happening for a specific reason….based on the proposed plot, I completely understand holding off on introducing (Mary Jane) until the next film.”

The move should give Peter and Gwen more time to establish their relationship before the inevitable happens, meaning that we’ll hopefully be more attached to her than we are now. Emma Stone’s performance was severely under-utilized in The Amazing Spider-Man, so if she were to die at this point, I don’t know why anyone would care.

Let us know what you think of the news below, and while you’re at it, what’s your opinion of Shailene as Mary Jane?

Sony is sure confident, aren’t they?

The studio today announced their plans for the future of the Spider-Man film franchise, and that future is looking good. The Amazing Spider-Man 2, of course, is hitting theatres next Summer, and two further films have just been unveiled. Here’s what the next few years of Spider-Man look like:

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theatres on May 2nd, 2014
The Amazing Spider-Man 3 hits theatres June 10th, 2016
The Amazing Spider-Man 4 hits theatres on May 4th, 2018

Hopefully Sony is planning the connections between the three coming films now, because planning everything this far ahead could turn out fantastic. Of course, the jury is still out on whether the first film was any good, but in any case, there’s always room for improvement.

Read the full press release below, and let us know what you think!

Remember when Dan Slott tricked fans into believing that The Superior Spider-Man was actually going to be the fan-favorite Miguel O’Hara aka Spider-Man 2099? The writer later revealed that he did actually have plans for the character and at C2E2, Marvel unveiled a couple of covers for Superior Spider-Man, one revealing the return of Spider-Man 2099.

The character will be making his return to the Marvel Universe in Superior Spider-Man #17, where he will be teaming up with Spidey, from Dan Slott and Ryan Stegman this September. Time to party like it’s 2099.

Shortly after director Marc Webb tweeted out the first look at Jamie Foxx as Max Dillon in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, actor Dane Dehaan has Tweeted an official image of him as Harry Osborn in the highly-anticipated sequel. The image isn’t very revealing but Dehann definitely is giving off the dark vibe that you’d hope for when it comes to a member of the Osborn family.

We’ve seen actor Jamie Foxx done up in the makeup for Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and now the director has given us an official first look at Foxx as Max Dillon. Superior Spider-Week is in full swing.

Earlier today, Marvel announced another new spider-series that will launch (along with Superior Carnage and Superior Foes of Spider-Manthis July. This one’s called Superior Spider-Man Team-Ups. Written by Chris Yost, and drawn by David Lopez, Foes is set to replace the current regular title, Avenging Spider-Man (which makes sense… seeing as he won’t be a part of the Avengers much longer).

According to the press release, ‘team-up’ may not accurately describe what we’re set to see. The very first line of the series description states that “There’s only one thing that’s on the mind of the Superior Spider-Man when he encounters the heroes of the Marvel Universe–it’s how can he beat them?! First on his list? The Avengers!”

Sounds good to me. Check out the first issue’s cover (featuring art by Paolo Rivera) below, and let us know what you think of the announcement!

There’s only one thing that’s on the mind of the Superior Spider-Man when he encounters the heroes of the Marvel Universe–it’s how can he beat them?! First on his list? The Avengers!

This July, Superior Spider-Month turns it up a notch as Yost and Lopez let loose in SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN TEAM-UP #1!“SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN TEAM-UP #1 takes fans across the entire Marvel Universe and pits Superior Spider-Man against heroes and foes you wouldn’t necessarily think he’d rub shoulders with,” explains Stephen Wacker, Senior Editor, Marvel Entertainment. “More and more people in the Marvel Universe are starting to sense a change in Spider-Man, and being able to see Chris put Spidey in those situations is going to have my inbox full of team-up requests! So stay strong Songbird fans!”

Director Marc Webb continues to tease fans with tweets from the set of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The director has tweeted some pretty confusing images and today continued that trend with an interesting image features some cast members…in a Panda and Gorilla suit? With a caption that reads “Thinking about some new villains…”, could these be some henchmen? Or could the shadow with the green background and giant “N” be possibly hinting at things to come?

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set to swing into theaters May 2, 2014

Did you think for some crazy reason that Superior Spider-Man would be coming to an end soon? Well, think again because Marvel will be launching Superior Foes Of Spider-Man this July from the creative team of Nick Spencer and Steve Lieber. The ongoing series will focus on Boomerang, Shocker, Speed Demon, the Beetle, and Overdrive. The majority of the story will be taking place from the point of view of Boomerang, who recently gained popularity in Jeff Parker’s run on Thunderbolts.

When it was revealed that Paul Giamatti would be joining the cast of the upcoming sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man, there was also word that British actress Felicity Jones was in talks to join the film as well. Now, in an interview with Dutch website RTL Netherlands, Felicity Jones has confirmed that she will indeed star in the highly anticipated sequel. The actress told the site:

“I’ve never done a superhero movie. It’s very nice to you as an actor in several worlds to go and to experiment.”

The actress refused to reveal to the site just who she will be playing in the film. While she could possibly just have a small role in the film, the secrecy may lead many to believe she could have a bigger role than expected. With Marc Webb building a Spider-verse there’s a good number of characters the actress could be playing. Let the speculation commence!

The sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man is set to hit theaters May 2nd, 2014.

If Miles does end up quitting, I’m sure it won’t be for long (at least I hope not, I’ve grown quite attached to the kid). In any case, this is quite a fantastic homage, and I’m very excited for the issue.

Marvel today released a teaser image for an upcoming issue of Ultimate Comics Spider-Man (issue #23 to be exact). The image (and its gigantic bold title) is clearly meant to bring our thoughts back to the classic 1967 issue of The Amazing Spider-Man (#50), in which Peter decides to give up his life as the misunderstood hero.

“The story behind this image will leave readers in tears! What could possibly drive Miles Morales to abandon his role as Ultimate Comics Spider-Man? Find out this May, in Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #23!”

With a synopsis like that, we know that something big will happen in the coming months, but what?

While speaking on RTE Television‘s ‘The Late Late Show’ earlier today, actor Martin Sheen has revealed that he will be returning as Uncle Ben, the iconic comic book character who is the reason behind Peter Parker becoming a hero, in Marc Webb’s upcoming sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man. The actor revealed:

“They’ve called me back, I don’t know what the part is gonna be, but I’m going to be ‘Uncle Ben’ once again in Spider-Man next year. We shoot it in February.”

As we all know the character met his demise in the last film, which most likely means that we will see him return in a flashback or dream sequence most likely. And maybe he’ll even say that line that you all cried about him not saying in the first film? Even though, he kind of said it in a way.

The untitled sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man swings into theaters May 2, 2014.
