Just days after Glenn Close joined the project as the head of the Nova Corps, James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy has added another to its ranks.

Karen Gillan, most recognized for her five-year stint on BBC’s Doctor Who, has signed onto the film. Few details about her role have been revealed, but it is known that she’ll play the main villain in the feature.

Guardians of the Galaxy also stars Zoe Saldana, Chriss Pratt, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Glenn Close, and plenty of others. The film will hit theatres on August 1st, 2014. Let us know what you think of the latest addition to the cast, and if you’re looking forward to the film!

The ever-growing cast of James Gunn’s Gaurdians of the Galaxy just revealed its latest addition.

Golden Globe winner Glenn Close has been tapped to play the head of Nova Corps in the film, which is set to start production in just a few months. Deadline broke the news, and reports that Close’s character is the “closest thing to the one that Samuel L. Jackson plays in Marvel’s Avengers movie.”

In my opinion, this is an absolutely fantastic addition to the already impressive cast. What do you think? Guardians of the Galaxy also stars Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, and more, and is set to hit theatres on August 1st, 2014!

In this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly, there’s quite a bit of coverage for Marvel’s upcoming “Phase Two” films. Earlier today we saw some new details and concept art for Captain America: The Winter Soldier and now we have some new concept from James Gunn’s Guardians Of The Galaxy. If you know Peter Quill’s backstory, you know definitely know what scene this is. If you don’t know the backstory, you should probably go pick up a copy of Guardians Of The Galaxy #0.1 and get caught up. Kevin Fiege talked about the highly-anticipated release, which included confirmation that actress Zoe Saldana has signed on as the film’s female lead:

GOTG-concept-1

“Guardians takes place within the continuity of the [other movies] but it’s on the other side of the universe. We’ve always wanted to do a space movie. I’m obsessed with Star Wars, I’m obsessed with Star Trek.”

“It’s a huge story on a massive canvas,” Feige says. “We can take it to all those crazy places as long as all the characters respond in an emotionally truthful way. That’s why I believe people are going to respond to Chris Pratt and to an alien Zoë Saldana—because they did respond to that one time before [with Avatar]. And to a tree and a raccoon who, it is certainly our intention, will steal the whole movie.”

Marvel Studios and director James Gunn are currently in full swing putting together the cast of Guardians Of The Galaxy. Just yesterday it was revealed that Ophelia Lovibond had joined the film’s cast and now it’s been revealed that actor Lee Pace, who was actually up for the lead role of Peter Quill at one point, has entered into final negotiations to play the villain in the upcoming Phase Two film.

There’s currently no word at the moment which cosmic character Pace will be playing but speculation has already begun that he could be playing the character Korvac in the upcoming space-epic. We should begin to learn more as we near production starting this June.

A big space epic featuring an unlikely cast of Marvel characters, including Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Groot and Rocket Raccoon, who must team up in order to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions.

The latest addition to the growing cast of James Gunn’s Guardians Of The Galaxy comes in the form of English actress Ophelia Lovibond. The young actress’ role in the upcoming space-epic isn’t specified, but her character will “play an aide to a being called The Collector, who gathers artifacts and beings in the hopes of saving them from a foretold galactic annihilation.” Could she be playing The Collector’s daughter? Did Marvel just go massively cosmic here? Yes, yes they did.

Michael Rooker had previously shown interest in playing Rocket Raccoon in James Gunn’s Guardians Of The Galaxy. Well, he may not have landed that role, but the actor will be joining the cast of the upcoming space epic.

Rooker will play Yondu, a game hunter of a primitive tribe native to Centauri IV who teams up with the Guardians Of The Galaxy as one of the founding members in the comics. Will he be one in the film as well? Guess we’ll have to wait and find out. Rooker will join Chris Pratt, Dave Batista and Zoe Saldana in the upcoming Marvel Studios film.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Star Trek and Avatar actress Zoe Saldana is currently in negotiations to join the cast of Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy. Saldana is in talks to play the role of Gamora in the upcoming James Gunn directed space epic. The green-skinned humanoid known as the “deadliest woman in the galaxy” is the last of a species that was wiped out by the villainous alien race known as the Badoon. The actress will join Chris Pratt and Dave Batista in the film and will appear in next month’s Star Trek Into Darkness. Now that we’ve got the humanoid characters down, it’s on to Rocket Raccoon and Groot.

Contained within The Marvel Cinematic Universe “Phase One” that was released today was a video preview of their “Phase Two” slate of films. We saw some of the concept art from the video online earlier today and now the full video has now surfaced that contains behind the scenes footage, concept art, interviews with the directors and even a first look at Thor: The Dark World. “Expect the unexpected”.

Word is that Captain America: The Winter Soldier has begun filming today and we’ve got our first look at the film. No, it’s not a set image but pre-production concept art for the film which may reveal what Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier could look like. Following that we’ve got three pieces of concept art for James Gunn’s Guardians Of The Galaxy that definitely give off a bit of a Star Wars vibe. Check them out below.

Bleeding Cool has learned that Brian Muir, the movie prop sculptor who has done work for Star Wars, Aliens, Raiders Of The Lost Ark and many other legendary films (most notably being the sculptor behind Darth Vader’s mask and suit), is currently working hard on Marvel’s upcoming space-epic Guardians Of The Galaxy. When the site asked about the movie they were told that “there’s something of a Star Wars vibe to the plans for Guardians.” Filming is set to begin in just a few months on the project and from the sounds out of it we may be getting our first look at the film at this year’s San Diego Comic Con.

There’s been a lot of talk regarding who would be getting the the role of Drax The Destroyer in James Gunn’s Guardians Of The Galaxy. After some back and forth negotiations between a number of actors, which included Jason Momoa, Patrick Wade and Isaiah Mustafah, the role in the film has been cast. It has now been confirmed that mixed martial artist and former WWE wrestler Dave Batista, who was most recently seen in The Man With The Iron Fists and will appear in the upcoming Riddick, has closed the deal to play the character in the highly-anticipated Marvel Studios film.

The character is described as, “a human resurrected as a green warrior with the sole purpose of killing Thanos. His powers include flight, super-strength and energy blasts.” Batista will join Chris Pratt, who will be playing the role of Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, in the upcoming Marvel Studios film. With production set to begin in the next few months, we should expect to learn the rest of the cast for the film very soon.

Not long ago it was rumored that Marvel was looking at Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler for a role in James Gunn’s Guardians Of The Galaxy. Well, we caught up with Carrey at SXSW and asked him if he was going to be involved with the film. Check out his response below. Oh, and Carrey did confirm that he is indeed alive. Whew! We were kind of worried there for a second.

Now, this doesn’t mean that Marvel wasn’t looking at the actor for the role. It just means he probably never heard about it because it didn’t even get past his agents.

While speaking with Cinema Blend, Marvel’s Executive Vice President Victoria Alonso offered up a little bit of info about Jame Gunn’s upcoming space-epic Guardians Of The Galaxy. Alonso revealed that production on the film has already begun and that filming will begin in just a few months.

“Production has already started! Completely. It started months ago and we have an entire team in London already – we start shooting in June. Our director [James Gunn] travels next week and it’s going, baby! It’s a fast train to a beautiful place.”

Alonso also commented on how they’re handling bringing Rocket Raccoon and Groot to life on the big screen:

rr-groot

“We’re going to do a combination. You can’t do any motion capture with a raccoon – they won’t let you put the suit on [laughs]. But we will do rotomation, probably, for some of the behavior. Rocket will have his own personality, of course, and clearly we can’t do mocap on a tree, per say, but we definitely will have performers to emulate what James Gunn will lead to be the behavior and the performance. He’s very clear on where he wants to take the characters.”

James Gunn really has one of the hardest jobs of Marvel’s “Phase Two” here with this film, but we couldn’t be more excited to see the results.

The search for the actor to fill the lead role in Marvel’s upcoming space epic is finally over. There’s been a long list of names in the running for the role, but now Deadline reports that Chris Pratt (Zero Dark Thirty) has signed on for the role of Peter Quill aka Star-Lord in Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy. Once again, as they usually do, Marvel Studios have gone with a name that wasn’t on the on the list of contenders or “front runners” for the role.

star-lord

The actor recently bulked up quite a bit for his role in the Academy Award nominated film Zero Dark Thirty. He has also impressed quite a few critics with his roles in Zero Dark Thirty and Moneyball. With the highly-anticipated film set to start shooting very shortly, expected even more casting announcements over the new few weeks.

Two new names have joined the list of actors that Marvel is eyeing for a role in James Gunn’s Guardians Of The Galaxy. According to Latino Review, who is pretty reliable when it comes to Marvel Studios projects, Marvel Studios is looking at some big name comedic actors for a role in their upcoming space epic and are asking about the availability of both Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler. Don’t worry, these two aren’t joining the list of actors up for the role of Peter Quill aka Star-Lord. It’s obvious that these two are being looked at for either the role (or roles?) of the gun-toting Rocket Raccoon or his buddy Groot, who will be the comedic relief of the film.

rr-groot

Well, it’s either that or Cosmo the space dog. Also, keep in mind that looking into the availability of an actor definitely isn’t the same as casting the actor. With shooting set to begin in a few months though, expect official casting announcements for the highly-anticipated Marvel Studios film to begin very soon.

While these aren’t too revealing at all, Disney has sent out a press release that contains brief synopsises for Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians Of The Galaxy. The press release also confirms that both films will be released in 3D. Could this cosmic force of epic proportions be Thanos or an entirely new threat that we don’t know about yet?

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER (Marvel) will be available in 3D.
Releases on 4/4/14. CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER will pick up where “Marvel’s The Avengers” leaves off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world. The film stars Chris Evans in the title role and will be directed by brothers Anthony and Joe Russo.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (Marvel) will be available in 3D.
Releases on 8/1/14. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, based on the Marvel comic books of the same name, features an unlikely cast of characters who must team up in order to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions. James Gunn will direct.

There’s been quite a bit of casting talk recently regarding the role of Peter Quill aka Star-Lord in Marvel Studios Guardians Of The Galaxy. But with the production on the film set to begin soon, what about the rest of the cast?

Apparently a source close to the production has revealed that Isaiah Mustafa (who you may know best as The Old Spice Guy), Brian Patrick Wade (The Guardian) and Dave Bautista (The Man With The Iron Fists) are all currently in negotiations for the role of Drax The Destroyer in the James Gunn directed space-epic. In the comics, Drax was an a human named Arthur Douglas whose family was attacked and killed by Thanos . The being known as Kronos took the soul of Douglas and placed it in a powerful new body to challenge and destroy Thanos. Thus, Drax The Destroyer was born. However, it has been revealed that they will be changing the character’s story for the film.

With filming expected to begin very soon we can expected to hear some official announcements regarding casting very soon.

Just earlier today it was revealed that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was on the list of contenders  for the role of Peter Quill aka Star-Lord in Marvel Studios highly-anticipated Guardians Of The Galaxy. Based on that we assumed that maybe he was the mystery actor who had read for the role before the holidays. Well, it appears we may have been wrong because just a short while ago actor Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville) revealed that he is also in the mix for the role in Marvel’s upcoming space epic.

The fan-favorite actor has actually already previously worked with director James Gunn in the past. There’s definitely a chance that Gunn may be going after someone that he’s more familiar working with for the role. But then there’s plenty of great candidates on this ever-growing list and with production set to begin in a few months an official announcement regarding who lands the role should be expected soon.

Guardians Of The Galaxy hits theaters August 1, 2014.

It appears that the list of actors up for the role of Peter Quill aka Star Lord in Marvel Studios Guardians Of The Galaxy just got a bit more interesting. Before Christmas it was revealed that among the shortlist that was already revealed, both Zachary Levi (Thor: The Dark World) and an unnamed actor were also up for the role.

Well, it appears that Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The Dark Knight Rises, Looper) is the latest candidate for the role in the James Gunn directed space epic.  While it is unclear if Gordon-Levitt has been offered the role, his name is definitely in the mix over at Marvel Studios. After his performances in Looper and The Dark Knight Rises this year, Levitt is definitely a great candidate for the role. With production set to begin in a few months an official announcement regarding who lands the role should be expected soon.

It has been revealed that actor Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables) is in talks to join the cast of the Wachowski’s upcoming sci-fi film, Jupiter Ascending. While the actor has not signed on for the film yet, if he does sign on you can take his name off the list of actors up for the role of Star-Lord in Marvel Studios Guardians Of The Galaxy. Production on both films will take place around the same time making it impossible for Redmayne to do both.

If Redmayne does indeed sign on for Jupiter Ascending, he will join Mila Kunis (Ted) and Channing Tatum (G.I. Joe Retaliation) in the film which takes place “In a universe where humans are near the bottom of the evolutionary ladder, a young destitute human woman is targeted for assassination by the Queen of the Universe because her very existence threatens to end the Queen’s reign”.

Deadline has revealed that Marvel Studios has a short list of actors for the role of Peter Quill aka Star-Lord in Phase Two’s Guardians Of The Galaxy. Joel Edgerton (Warrior), Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire), Jim Sturgess (Cloud Atlas), Lee Pace (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey) and Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables) have all signed test deals for the lead role in the upcoming film.

Now, while these actors are all in the running Marvel Studios apparently also is interested Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy), James Marsden (X-Men) and Sullivan Stapleton (Animal Kingdom). It’s still shocking and quite awesome that we’re actually reporting casting news for a Guardians Of The Galaxy film.

Source: Deadline

Well, we kind of already knew about these but it hadn’t been officially announced. Until today that is and with one big surprise. At New York Comic Con today Marvel revealed that next February we will see the release of Guardians Of The Galaxy #0.1 from the creative team of Brian Michael Bendis (The Avengers) and Steve McNiven (Nemesis). The first issue will then hit stands in March. The roster is the same team that will appear in the upcoming movie consisting of Starlord, Groot, Rocket Racoon, Drax, and Gamora. But, that’s not all. There’s a surprise member on the team…Iron Man!

February will also see the launch of a brand new Nova series from the team of Jeph Loeb (Batman: The Long Halloween) and Ed McGuinness (Superman/Batman) that will focus on the newest member of the Nova corps, the young Sam Alexander.

Source: Newsarama

Newsarama caught up with Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada during New York Comic Con where they chatted it up about a number of things. The first thing Quesada talked about was Guardians Of The Galaxy. He revealed that you can expect the new Guardians Of The Galaxy title for Marvel NOW! to go along with the movie in some ways.

“There is stuff that I know is going on with the movie that we might be able to apply to the Marvel Cosmic Universe. And try and develop that Synergy. Not to copy one from the other, but to make it look like it’s on the same page.”

He also stated that it is important to make sure that not only is it important to capture what the comic book fans want in these projects, but also to make sure general audiences understand what they are seeing in these movies.

Quesada also revealed that there is currently a secret project that him and Marvel Studios are working on right now.

“There is a project I am very much involved in, and I’ll give you this hint. I have to go to the West Coast to work on it. There have been rumors about it little things have leaked here and there, but there has been no official announcement.”

So, looking at things, there are a couple of movies that have been talked about but nothing official up to now but there are definitely two major ones. We could possibly be looking at a Black Panther or Doctor Strange film to finally be announced but it will most likely not happen until next year’s San Diego Comic-Con most likely.

Another piece of news coming from the guys over at Latino Review, who so far have been pretty spot on when it comes to Marvel Studios, is that three of the characters in Guardians Of The Galaxy are getting a little more focus at the moment.

Star-Lord, Gamora and Drax The Destroyer will be getting visual and backstory updates to meld them into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s easy to see where Star-Lord fits in with the plot synopsis of the film being “a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants.” You can also tell from the concept art alone that his suit is definitely going to be different than the Star-Lord we’re used to in the comics.

Basically, look for these backstories to get a slight change to make more sense as far as the movies are concerned and their costumes to get a bit of a touch up. Gamora and Drax’s backstories are mainly getting updates due to their connection with the Mad Titan, Thanos.

It has been pretty much known for a while that Brian Michael Bendis would be doing a new Guardians Of The Galaxy title as part of the Marvel NOW! relaunch. However,  there was no word on who the artist would be. Until today that is. The following teaser reveals that Brian Michael Bendis will be teaming up with Steve McNiven (Nemesis) for the first time since they brought back Sentry in the pages of New Avengers. A masked Star-Lord was featured on Adi Granov’s cover of Marvel NOW! Point One, but who is this mysterious character in the teaser? Could it be a young Star-Lord?

Source: MTV

To say fans were excited and lost their mind about the appearance of Thanos in Marvel’s The Avengers would be quite an understatement. Even since that scene fans have wondered when we would see the character again.  It was recently confirmed that the mad titan would be appearing again in James Gunn’s Guardians Of The Galaxy and Feige reveals that there are plans that have been set in stone for the character in the future.  MTV recently chatted with the man Marvel Studios Kevin Fiege, and discussed the future of The Avengers big mid-credits surprise.Feige stated:

“There’s a great track record now about lobbing something in at the last moment to get the audience buzzing. Particularly when it came to Thanos, [we knew] that most people in that audience had no idea who that purple guy was — but they could clearly tell he was important, and knew if they asked the two or three people sitting next to them, somebody would know who he was.

Clearly, there’s a purpose to us putting him in the end of that movie. We do have plans for him. I wouldn’t say we ever feel the need to rush anything one way or the other. We succeeded in Phase One because we stuck to our guns and stuck to the plan. That plan took place over many, many years and it ultimately paid off. I see Phase Two unfolding in the same way of us taking our time, us doing what’s right for each individual movie, while folding in elements that will not only build up to the culmination of Phase Two, but even Phase Three.”

Actor Damion Poiter was the man behind Thanos first outing on the big screen but we can most likely expect another actor to play the mad titan in the future. Fiege commented on that briefly:

“I think we feel pretty free to recast. That was cast for literally that one shot. Depending on what the role requires from future movies, we’ll go from there.”

“Suddenly, you have a million people who had never heard of an Infinity Gauntlet or a Mad Titan learning those terms. I love that. I love when the experience goes beyond the movie theater and encourages people to look deeper into our universe. I was equally excited by the notion that people went out and tried shawarma for the first time.”

Pretty sure we all tried shawarma after. Actually, I now even have a place that I go get shawarma. Are you guys ready for Phase Two? And who would you guys like to see play Thanos in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Scott Porter is definitely no stranger to Marvel. Porter was one of the contenders to portray Captain America and has expressed interest in the past in portraying Danny Rand aka Iron Fist. He’s even worked with Marvel before, voicing Scott Summers aka Cyclops in the X-Men anime.  In a recent interview with MTV the actor expressed interest in portraying another of Marvel’s characters.

“Marvel just announced that they’re doing ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ which is another property that I love. I read it growing up. I’d love to play Nova.”

I think any kid who gets into the acting business, they have a couple of things that they always wanted to do. For me, it was like, play a war hero; play an athlete, which I’ve gotten to do; die a horrible death in a horror movie, which I’ve gotten to do; and then be a superhero. I’ve marked two things off the list, and I’m working on the others.

Gunn is a unique choice. I think he could be a really great shephard for that property,” added Porter. “I think ‘Guardians’ is going to be a lot of fun. I think it’ll be very cool. I thought the next thing I might try and go after is ‘Heroes for Hire,’ but it looks like ‘Guardians’ is around, so…”

The actor then went on to state that he definitely wants to portray a superhero at one point and that it was one of the things on his to-do list. It’s been rumored that Nova would appear in Guardians Of The Galaxy and I really haven’t though much of it until now. But I honestly wouldn’t be against this one. He obviously knows his source material. What do you guys think?

Back in August we learned that Marvel’s top choice for the upcoming phase two title Guardians of the Galaxy was James Gunn (Super, Slither). Just last week Joss Whedon let everyone know what his thoughts were on the project and on Gunn’s ability to deliver, and now we get a word from the man himself!

James revealed on his FaceBook page that he is now clear to talk about it, and that he indeed will be directing (and rewriting) the project. Check out the full text from his post below, and let us know what you think!

For a month or so there’s been a lot of Internet speculation about my involvement with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Until now I haven’t said anything, because I’m trying to be less expulsive about this project than I am about the rest of my life. But last night I got the go-ahead from Kevin Feige to let you all know that, yes, indeed, I am rewriting and directing Guardians of the Galaxy. As a lifelong lover of Marvel comics, space epics, AND raccoons, this is the movie I’ve been waiting to make since I was nine years old. Kevin, Joss, and all the folks at Marvel have been amazing collaborators so far, and we’re committed to bringing you something majestic, beautiful, and unique. I am incredibly excited. I am also incredibly grateful to the fans and the press for all their words of encouragement and support regarding my involvement with this project since the news first leaked. Thanks – you have, honestly, touched and overwhelmed me. And that’s it for now. Other than the occasional photos of my dog and cat here on Facebook, I’ll talk to you again in August 2014 when Guardians is released!

Marvel Studios is taking a major risk with one of their “phase two” movies set for 2014 with the less known property Guardians Of The Galaxy. The upcoming “space epic” is planned to introduce audiences to a much larger Marvel Universe. With Guardians Of The Galaxy set to to lead directly into the sequel to The Avengers, one could only assume that Joss Whedon knows what is going on with that movie. Oh, and let’s not forget that Marvel Studios tapped James Gunn, a friend of Whedon’s, to direct the 2014 film. While speaking with MTV News about his take on Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, Whedon  shared with MTV News what he thinks about Gunn’s direction so far.

“James is what makes me think it will work. I myself was sort of like, ‘Well, I liked Rocket Raccoon as a kid, but I’m not sure how that plays [to a wider audience].’ And then they said, ‘Well, we’re thinking about using James Gunn.’ And I said, ‘Oh, then no, you’re fine.’ He is so off the wall, and so crazy, but so smart, such a craftsman and he builds from his heart. He loves the raccoon. Needs the raccoon. This is the guy who wrote ‘The Specials.’ People don’t understand how influential that movie was about heroes, about taking heroes and making them mundane. And [he directed] ‘Super.’ Gunn has barely started, but already has a very twisted take on it, but it all comes from a real love for the material. It’s going to be hard for the humans to keep up,” said Whedon. “I know he’s going to come from left field and I’m going to go, ‘What?’ And then, ‘Of course, why didn’t I think of that?’ And then I’m going to beat him!”
