What I think is going to be the greatest game of 2012, Counter Strike: Global Offensive, gets a launch trailer. No words are needed. You should just watch.

This damned source film maker is awesome! Counter Strike: Global Offensive comes out August 21st. I have it preordered…DO YOU?

You read that right folks! Today the wonder folks over at the Behemoth have let slip that their crazy hyper popular XBLA game, Castle Crashers, will be coming to the Steam marketplace! We were given this news via a nice little poem from Dan Paladin himself.

A Poem by Dan Paladin:
While BattleBlock has been churning,
there’s another wheel turning!
And that wheel is Castle Crashers running on Steam!

It was accomplished by utilizing one of our programming teams!
We always liked this platform so it’s kind of a dream!

I’d say a release date but the future’s unknown.
If I make a mistake I shall never atone.

If you’re in Germany this weekend please say hi to John.
He is at Gamescom.

We were also given a nice list of STUFF that can be found with the STEAM edition

Castle Crashers Steam Features:

No release date has been given

A few days ago a mysterious blood stain showed up on the Team Fortress 2 website linking to this odd birth notice. This alluded to a third son of the Mann family, Gray, and conversely a third team to be added to Team Fortress 2 universe. Then we got another blood stain on the Team Fortress 2 page, leading to this odd last will, which was pointing to the fact that the ghost of Mann would return to enact his revenge on those who use his weapons for evil.

Soon the online consensus was that the new “Gray” team would be a horde mode type enemy, and everyone was right. Today we get a trailer for the next update, Mann vs Machine for Team Fortress 2, which releases August 15th.

I know Geekscape has plenty of zombie fans out there, especially fans of Valve’s Left 4 Dead video game series. Here’s a little treat especially for you guys. Check out this gory and not safe for work fan film titled Seriously Left 4 Dead. The short was directed by Jason Forge. Check it out and let us know what you think.

Valve’s new add-on to the very popular game Left 4 Dead 2 has been delayed <once again> for Xbox 360. The DLC, Cold Stream has been promised for more than a year for Xbox 360 players. The blog for the game posted that the new content was releasing July 24th (about two weeks ago). The DLC will also include four other imports from the first Left 4 Dead. They are, Blood Harvest, Crash Course, Dead Air, and Death Toll

“We are working with MS on a release schedule,” Valve wrote on their official Left 4 Dead Developer Twitter feed. “We don’t have an ETA yet but we hope to have it out soon. It will be 560 [Microsoft Points, or $7]… We have no news on an [ETA] yet.”

I actually rushed home today and had my night planned around playing it. Guess if I had my choice I’d take the bat upside Valve’s head for the delay. Better yet, the chainsaw!

The PC version is available now on Steam for free.

The merry band of merry makers merrily marched their way into yet another gaming field. Today they announce their community driven game approval process “Steam Greenlight”

Steam Greenlight, in a nutshell, is Valves method of streamlining the game approval process. It allows developers to submit their game with screenshots, details, specs and trailers and lets the Steam community vote on weather or not the game gets put into the store!

Now I personally think this is great, but I have two concerns with some of their requirements.

Are there any restrictions on what can be posted?

Your game must not contain offensive material or violate copyright or intellectual property rights.

Not contain offensive material? That is pretty vague. I feel that leaves a big window open for valve to say no to certain games and yet let others pass no problem. I am sure some people find a lot of the M rated games on Steam to be offensive. I would like more clarification on this. Safe to say that stuff like JFK: Reloaded will NOT make it onto the store.

What do I need in order to submit my game?

You’ll need a valid and non-limited Steam account (yes, that means you’ll need to own a game on Steam).

Interesting. What constitutes as “owning” a game. Do free to play games like TF2 Free or Fallen Earth count? Is this just a nice way of saying ” you need to grease our palms BEFORE you submit a game that we take a cut of.”.

Those two gripes aside, this is still PRETTY exciting! I can’t wait to see what comes of this.

Well it’s over. The Pyromania three day event is done, and it finished with flourish. Haaaaaave you met Pyro?

Well, that was…interesting. I can safely say that was the best “Meet The” video hands down. Today not only marks the end of Pyromania but it introduces the newest tool from Valve. The Source Filmmaker.

Source Filmmaker (SFM) is the tool Valve developed inside the source engine that it used to animate all nine of the TF2 shorts. It takes an entire animation studio and puts it inside a single gaming PC. From the Press Release.

The goal of the SFM was to develop a story telling tool that allowed us to create computer animated movies more efficiently, and with greater creative freedom,” said Bay Raitt, designer at Valve. “Over the past five years, we’ve produced more than 50 animated shorts with the SFM. The Source Filmmaker will allow our community to create their own movies in Team Fortress 2 and in their own Source SDK-created mods.

SFM is currently in a closed beta, but Valve is going to release it FREE OF CHARGE later this year.

I don’t like to throw this word around too often, but this is fucking AMAZING! What Valve is bringing to gamers and machinma artists alike is nothing but astounding. I cannot wait to see what groups like Lit Fuse Films will be able to do with this tool.

For more info on SFM check out the official page.

Day 2 of Pyromania is HERE.

That’s right Team Fortress 2 fanboys and Valve lovers. You read it correctly. At the end of this week we will have the “Meet The Pyro” video!

If you have been living under a rock for the past few years, let me bring you up to speed. Periodically, Valve has released small vignettes introducing the different classes from their hit team shooter, Team Fortress 2. They’ve been critically received and highly praised all around. The gaming community for a while now has been craving the one introducing the Pyro class. The wait is over.

Announced today over on the TF2 blog that this week is PYROMANIA!

Day One sneaks the peek at the new map “Doomsday”.

Doomsday pits BLU against RED, with only one team getting the honor of transporting a suitcase nuke full of recalled Mann Co. Australium to American monkeynaut Poopy Joe’s rocket, so he can blast off and hunt down Soviet space chimp Vladimir Bananas. It’s the same spirit of competitive enterprise that stalled the moon landing by three years when Buzz Aldrin suplexed Neil Armstrong into a pile of folding chairs at Astromania ’69! Both teams will attempt to get the necessary fuel up a preposterously slow-moving elevator and into Poopy Joe’s Australium-powered rocket to the stars.

So keep and eye out here and the TF2 blog for more updates as they come out!

An interesting static website has popped up on the Adult Swim page. An image of the Red team from Team Fortress 2 sits below somewhat vague text.

COMING NEXT WEEK

ADULT SWIM & VALVE

ARE TEAMING UP FOR SOMETHING THAT YOU’LL PROBABLY ENJOY. TO LEARN HOW THEIR VIDEO GAME PEANUT BUTTER WILL BE GETTING IN OUR NETWORK’S CHOCOLATE, COME BACK NEXT WEEK.

ALSO: YOU’LL WANT TO SIGN UP FOR THE NEWSLETTER. YOU’VE BEEN WARNED.

Color me intrigued. With a series of Team Fortress 2 “animation cell” mock-ups floating  around 4chan for a while now, what could Adult Swim be up too?

A couple of days ago, over on the GOG forums, a user was doing his impression of Horatio Caine and dug up some interesting information.

Turns out Square Enix, just days prior, purchased the domain www.finalfantasyviipc.com. Currently it just forwards to the main Square page, but our detective over at GOG did some more digging. When he looked at the public cache for the site, he found this image. Click to enlarge.

This appears to be a PR release for the game, but with all the formatting removed due to google caching.

The price listed on the image is £7.99/€9.99. Roughly $13 USD. No official word yet from square.

Personally I am very excited if this turns out to be legit. Lets hope they sprung for HD graphics.

Check out their public who is record here.

Today. Today is the day we got the call. To return to our computer rooms. Adjust the lumbar in the chair. Turn the lights down and the blue LEDs up. August 21st is the day  the next game in the LEGENDARY Counter-Strike series ships.

The E3 news machine is running on all cylinders. Valve announced that CS:GO will be released August 21st for $15 on STEAM, PSN and XBLA. Forget Mass Effect 3. Forget Assassins Creed 3. Forget Diablo 3. CS:GO is the only number 3 you will ever need.

Make sure to check out the CS:GO Steam page for more info.

The guys over at Kotaku have let loose the rumor dogs of war, saying that Gamestop will be selling Valve game passes in their brick and mortar stores.

The rumor is that after Gamestop buying the online distribution service, Impulse, and that not fairing them to well. They have joined up with Valve and will start selling what every underaged PC gamer has wanted for years. A Steam Gift Card service. No official word yet, but the rumor says May 15th they should start selling the cards.

What do you think? I am very happy to have this option available.

The Portal 2 Perpetual Testing Environment goes live today. This marks a pretty monumental shift for the series. Allowing users to create their own puzzles, upload them to Steam and allow players to download, play and rate the puzzles.

Sow what are you waiting for? GO PATCH YOUR COPY! First one to create a Super Action  Man testing room wins a prize!

Yesterday Valve announced their latest in DLC for Portal 2, AND IT’S NOT HATS!

The “Perpetual Testing” DLC, which ships May 8th, gives players a puzzle creation tool so that they can make their own Portal challenges and share them with the community. It is all available in game so you don’t even need to learn a new tool like the Steam Hammer.

Check out the official site for more details.

This appears to be the jolt Portal 2 needs to stay one of the most popular games around.

From what I played on my PSP, XSEED Games were some of the most played by far. The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, Lunar: Silver Star Harmony and Ys: The Oath in Felghana were always either on my PSP or ready to go in my PSP’s case.

Now, XSEED Games has released info that the games you loved to play on your handheld or console will be coming to Steam. It all starts on March 19th with Ys: The Oath in Felghana for $14.99. This edition includes Steamworks features such as Steam Achievements and Steam Cloud support. Later on down the road, we’ll get something special for Ys fans: Ys Origin was never released outside of Japan so to have this game finally released in English in North America is a pretty big deal. I’m excited about that particular announcement.

What games from XSEED would you like to see released next on Steam? I’m thinking Little King’s Story myself!
