Rosamund Pike Joins Simon Pegg And Nick Frost In ‘The World’s End’!

Rosamund Pike (who we most recently saw in Wrath Of The Titans) will star alongside Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in Edgar Wright’s final entry in the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, The World’s End.

World’s End chronicles a single night in the lives of a group of friends who attempt to go on an epic pub crawl.  Nick Frost has stated that ‘it’s deeper than just a pub crawl’. It’s an Edgar Wright film so we can definitely expect this night of drinking to lead to something fantastic. Shooting on the film starts next month.

Simon Pegg Confirms That Edgar Wright Will Shoot ‘Ant-Man’ Next Year

So, if you haven’t been hearing about Ant-Man this weekend you probably have not had access to the internet, been lost in the Age Of Apocalypse, been in a cave with thumbs in your ears or something along those lines. Following the buzz that has hit the internet Simon Pegg made an interesting tweet:

And honestly…who didn’t expect this? Why make a huge announcement as the start of your panel if it’s not going anywhere? Plus this news does come from a quite reliable source when it comes to Edgar Wright. For me this movie can’t come soon enough.

 

Geekscape Teams With Exhibit A Pictures And Red Letter Media For ‘Doc of the Dead’!

If you’ve been listening to Geekscape, or even checking our Facebook or Twitter, you knew something was up. And now it’s official. Geekscape is teaming up with Red Letter Media and “The People VS George Lucas” team of Exhibit A Pictures to create THE definitive zombie culture documentary “The Doc of the Dead”. Geekscape and Red Letter Media’s roles in the film are as contributors and Mike of Red Letter Media and I are co-directors providing director Alexandre Philippe, who’s no stranger to Geekscapists, with plenty of segments throughout the film.

‘WALKING DEAD’ ARTIST CHARLIE ADLARD TO SIGN POSTER ART AT SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON

DENVER, CO (July 5, 2012) – The creators of the groundbreaking participatory documentary THE PEOPLE vs. GEORGE LUCAS are already hard at work on DOC OF THE DEAD—the definitive and most comprehensive tribute to zombie culture and fandom ever made. Shot and edited in a cinematically edgy, high-octane style, DOC OF THE DEAD will host a rich pop culture dialogue with zombie experts and celebrities, seek participation from YouTubers and indie filmmakers, and even investigate the possibility and ramifications of an actual zombie outbreak with sociologists, virologists, chemists, and members of the Zombie Research Society.

The Exhibit A Pictures triumvirate—Writer/Director Alexandre O. Philippe, Producer Kerry Deignan Roy, and Producer/DP Robert Muratore—teams up again with Editor Chad Herschberger and the multi award-winning post-production facility Milkhaus (Oscar winner SAVING FACE; Sundance winner CHASING ICE) to stamp their unique brand of entertainment and pop culture commentary on one of the most viral and enduring fan phenomena in recent history. This will also mark their first full-fledged collaboration with Geekscape’s own Jonathan London and Red Letter Media’s massively popular Mr. Plinkett—both of whom will contribute recurring, fictionalized segments to the film. In other words: expect plenty of fan service and gory surprises!

Artist Charlie Adlard (THE WALKING DEAD), who created a stunning original poster for the film, will autograph a number of San Diego Comic-Con exclusive limited edition prints at the Geekscape Booth #3919 on Friday, July 13, 2012 at 4:30pm.

Filming is already under way, and the Exhibit A team is currently focusing on key interviews with countless personalities, critics, scholars, writers, filmmakers, comedians, and notorious zombie culture enthusiasts. Notables (to date) include Simon Pegg (SHAUN OF THE DEAD), and Matt Mogk (ZOMBIE RESEARCH SOCIETY). Zombie icon George A. Romero has agreed to participate, and will be interviewed in Toronto in early August.

Principal photography for DOC OF THE DEAD will begin in the Fall of 2012, with key interviews/B-roll/fictionalized segments filmed by the Exhibit A crew, and additional segments concurrently produced by Geekscape and Red Letter Media. Post-production is anticipated to begin in the Spring of 2013, with a completed film ready for delivery by Fall 2013. Crowdsourcing will be ongoing during the production and post-production periods. DOC OF THE DEAD will premiere in 2014.

I’m pretty excited about the chance for Geekscape to be involved in support of their first feature film and am really happy to be working with Mike at Red Letter Media and our longtime friends at Exhibit A. This was part of the goal in establishing the brand back in 2006 and continues to be. I hope those of you at SDCC next week drop by the booth and check things out, and pick up a copy of Charlie’s signed poster. Proceeds from the sale of the limited numbered poster will go to charity.

Simon Pegg Talks “Star Trek 2” Villain

In a new interview with The Telegraph, Geekscape friend Simon Pegg briefly spoke about “Star Trek 2,” and while he couldn’t say much, he did touch upon one very interesting topic. For months now, there have been plenty of rumors and internet speculation as to whom “Sherlock” star Benedict Cumberbatch is playing in the sequel.

Last month, TrekMovie claimed that Cumberbatch would be playing Khan in the movie but Simon Pegg had this to say on the subject:

“[Benedict Cumberbatch’s character is] not just another disgruntled alien. It’s a really interesting… sort of… thing. Obviously I can’t talk about it… It’s not Khan. That’s a myth. Everyone’s saying it is, but it’s not… I think people just want to have a scoop. It annoys me – it’s beyond the point to just ferret around for spoilers all the time to try to be the first to break them. It masquerades as interest in the movie but really it’s just nosiness and impatience. You just want to say, ‘Oh f— off! Wait for the film!’”

Well there ya go, straight from the mouth of Scotty himself. Benedict Cumberbatch isn’t playing Khan after all. So who will he be playing? Don’t ask us, Geekscape doesn’t ferret around for spoilers!

New Edgar Wright/Simon Pegg Movie ‘The World’s End’ Starts Filming In September!

Well it looks like fans of Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg have a little something to look forward to today. Deadline is reporting that The World’s End will start filming in September for a spring 2013 release. Wright will direct the script that he co-wrote with Pegg, who will once again star alongside Nick Frost. This will be the third film collaboration between them, following Shawn of The Dead and Hot Fuzz. Here’s the log line for the flick:

20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

If this flick is anything like the last two movies they worked on together then I think we will all have something to look forward to come next spring, but what does this mean for Wright’s long-in-devlopment take on Marvel’s Ant-Man? It was just last week that Wright posted a cryptic tweet, along with a picture (seen below), on his twitter page that read, “Received this in the mail. What can it mean?” The tweet, as well as recent comments from  Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige led many, myself include, to believe that Ant-Man would be Wright’s next movie. Well, it would seem as though that is not the case and that the movie is still in-development. On the bright side, fans will get a new Edgar Wright/Simon Pegg movie, which is always a good thing.

Simon Pegg to play Dengar in Star Wars: Clone Wars

This Friday, Simon Pegg who is probably best known for his appearance on Geekscape #215, takes the role of Empire Strikes Back bounty hunter Dengar on Cartoon Networks Clone Wars.

The episode, “Bounty”, has Dengar teaming up with Boba Fett, Bossk and Ventress as they protect some precious loot on its way out of a planet.

From the press release over at Entertainment Weekly we learn that during the Clone Wars   Dengar received cybernetic enhancements and his odd choice of clothing is to hide them from others.

The Clone Wars continues to impress me. Growing from the crappy kid movie to the proper Star Wars fan series it is now, and the clip is giving me flashbacks to the Train Level in Shadows of The Empire.
