Briefly: We’ve been beyond-excited for Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland since the first teaser debuted all the way back at NYCC, and we’ve been eating up every little tidbit of info about the production every since.

Today, Disney debuted a new theatrical trailer for the film, and it’s chock-full of gorgeous new footage.

Now, it also reveals a lot about the plot of the movie, so if you’re trying to retain the mystery that the first teaser left you with, I’d probably stay away from this one.

For everyone else, take a look below, and let us know how excited you are. Tomorrowland hits theatres on May 22nd.

Briefly: The Super Bowl spot for Tomorrowland didn’t show off a ton of new footage, but it’s really hard not to be excited for the May 22nd release.

In the film, “former boy-genius Frank (Clooney), jaded by disillusionment, and Casey (Britt Robertson), a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity, embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as “Tomorrowland.” What they must do there changes the world—and them—forever.”

The Iron Giant, Ratatouille, and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol director Brad Bird is at the helm of this one, and the script comes from Bird himself and Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof. We’re damned excited for this one, so take a look at the new teaser below, and let us know what you think!

Briefly: I love this teaser.

Too often today (read: all the time) a film’s first teaser or trailer reveals all too much of the film, leaving little mystery for the viewer to wonder, talk, or speculate about.

The first teaser for Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland is the exact opposite of that. It’s a short, beautiful look into the world of the film, but it reveals just enough for us to think ‘oh.my.god. this looks incredible’ before concluding. Now we’re left to speculate for who knows how long.

Briefly: Following the first trailer from a couple weeks back, HBO has just debuted another preview for its upcoming myster/drama series, The Leftovers, which is based on a rapture novel by Tom Perrotta and will also act as Lost executive producer Damon Lindelof’s return to TV (Lost’s other showrunner, Carlton Cuse, has already returned with the fantastic Bates Motel).

I think that this may be next next TV addiction. The Leftovers looks hugely mysterious (much like Lost, which I miss to this day), creepy as hell, and just damned interesting.

Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you think. The Leftovers premieres on HBO June 29th.

Briefly: HBO today (finally) released a full for its upcoming myster/drama series, The Leftovers, which is based on a rapture novel by Tom Perrotta and will also act as Lost executive producer Damon Lindelof’s return to TV (Lost’s other showrunner, Carlton Cuse, has already returned with the fantastic Bates Motel).

Judging from this trailer alone (not to mention that neat teaser from a couple of weeks ago), I think that this may be next next TV addiction. The Leftovers looks hugely mysterious (much like Lost, which I miss to this day), creepy as hell, and just damned interesting.

Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know what you think. The Leftovers premieres on HBO June 29th.

HBO today released a new teaser for its upcoming series The Leftovers, which is based on a rapture novel by Tom Perrotta and will also act as Lost executive producer Damon Lindelof’s return to TV (Lost’s other showrunner, Carlton Cuse, has already returned with the fantastic Bates Motel).

The teaser begins calmly enough, with a soothing voiceover describing that “there is no death” in allusion to millions of people that suddenly disappeared… but things go south pretty quickly.

Take a look at the teaser below, and let us know if you’ll be taking a look at the series when it premieres on June 15th.

When 2% of the world’s population abruptly disappears without explanation, the world struggles to understand just what they’re supposed to do about it. Three years later, the new HBO drama series THE LEFTOVERS is the story of the people who didn’t make the cut.

Well it’s a move that should come as a surprise to know one. With Ridley Scott’s Prometheus having grossed a good, but not great, $303 million globally on it’s $130 million budget it was only a matter of time until Fox began developing a sequel.

According to THR Fox and Ridley Scott are pushing ahead and are beggining to move forward with a sequel. They are talking with new screenwriters due to the fact that Damon Lindelof, who co-wrote the first film, may not be available. Stars Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace are signed on already.

“Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can’t rush it,” says Fox president of production Emma Watts, who also has overseen the successful reboots of the X-Men and Planet of the Apes franchises by turning over the reigns to innovative filmmakers.

The sequel is expected to land in theaters in 2014 or 2015.

Collider recently spoke with Drew Goddard (Cabin In The Woods) and one of the subjects that came up was his involvement in the troubled  Marc Forster helmed World War Z. It was reported earlier that Damon Lindelof (Prometheus) had been brought in to sort out some issues with the ending before they went back for re-shoots. Then later reports indicated that he had passed this on to Goddard due to him having other commitments. Well, from the looks of it the reports of him re-writing the entire third act may have been blown a bit out of proportion.

“I think a lot of that got blown out of proportion. It really was like, they asked me to come look at the movie and give ideas on how to help, and that’s what happened. That happens all the time, I don’t know why this got blown up with World War Z and it suddenly became a big thing. It’s the sort of thing that happens with screenwriters all the time where you give your ideas on what could help, you write some scenes for people. I feel bad for the sort of magnifying glass that that movie’s under because this is just a normal part of the process, this is just what happens. My involvement was just watch the movie, give some ideas, write some scenes that might help, ADR, just sort of fill in stuff, which is what I did.”

In regard to what he thinks of World War Z, while he can’t give too much away:

“Out of respect for the filmmakers, I don’t want to say too much about World War Z, just because I owe it to them to let it come out as the they want. What I will say is that some of the stuff I saw was mind-blowing.”

Ever since the success of ‘The Avengers’ Marvel Studios have been hard at work on their next projects and even giving us small hints at it. The most exciting of these to me comes from a quote from Kevin Fiege:

“And, we’ve got a lot of other characters we’re prepping and getting ready for film debuts: the world of martial arts…”

After reading that line right there any and every Marvel fan knew who he was talking about…Danny Rand aka Iron Fist. And this wasn’t the first time we had heard about them developing a Iron Fist movie. There has been talks as far as back as 2000 regarding making this film. Ray Park had been signed on to play with Kirk Wong (‘The Big Hit’) set to direct from a script written by John Turman. Production delays began from the start and pushed back all the way to 2003. Steve Carr (‘Next Friday’) replayed Kirk Wong as director and once again the film was placed on hold all the way until 2007. No news or talks about the movie surfaced again until 2009 when Marvel Studios first announced they were working on “creative ways to launch its lesser-known properties”.

The time wasn’t right then when comic movies were just filler but I think the time is right now. Comic book movies have become the summer blockbusters. They break records and fill seats better than most movies and I think we need a splash of something different. And I think that different would be an Iron Fist movie. A superhero movie that wouldn’t so much rely on gadgets or super powers but hand to hand combat…with super powers mixed in of course. And hey if you don’t trust me…Damon Lindelof agrees that it would make a cool movie.

Ed Brubaker and Matt Fractions run on The Immortal Iron Fist (which Brubaker won  an Eisner for in 2008) would be a great basis for a movie. You throw in a great cast with a good leading man, a good martial arts/action director and then slap that Marvel logo (after ‘The Avengers’ that logo alone is going to be a money maker for films) and you have the potential for making a great film that can be loved by not only comic fans but the general movie going audience.

So, who could handle a lead role in an Iron Fist film? I’ve picked four actors that I feel could definitely pull it off. But feel free to comment in the box below if you have some ideas of your own.

Ryan Phillipe

Ryan Gosling

Garrett Hedlund

Charlie Hunnam

I chose these actors due to their age range, knowledge in the department and drawing power. We need a good lead role that isn’t too huge but isn’t a nobody at the same time.

In order to keep the comic book movies coming we need to keep the movies and ideas fresh and keep the audiences Filling seats. We have yet to explore “the world of martial arts” and as not just a comic fan but a movie fan I can see this being something that will spark interest in the masses. As much as I would love to see ‘Ant-Man’ or ‘Guardians Of the Galaxy’ hit the screen over the next two years…my choice for the next Marvel project goes to Danny Rand…aka The Immortal Iron Fist.

*Warning: This review contains spoilers to the movie*

Prometheus has landed and it’s landed with a thud. Ridley Scott’s return to sci-fi was something I was doing celebratory back-flips over (not really, I’d hurt myself if I’d have actually tried a back-flip) and this was  a movie I have been looking forward to for quite sometime. As far as I’m concerned this movie is a steaming pile of Bantha fodder.

I’m not going to give a detailed synopsis of the movie due to the fact that anyone who has seen the trailers has pretty much seen the movie already. Basically the store breaks down as such, scientists (and I use that term very loosely) discover “an invitation” from the stars and go looking for the answer to the creation of man. They land on a mysterious planet and bad things happen, the end. For a detailed synopsis of the movie as well as different opinion on it check out Matt Landsman’s review.

People have been referring to this as a “thinking man’s movie” and that’s a statement I completely disagree with. Trust me, I’ve thought about this movie a lot over the last few days and despite the basic premise the rest of the movie is not thought out at all. The basic premise of ‘man looking for his maker’ is a cool idea but the presentation fails in almost every way possible.

Screen-writers Jon Spaihts and Damon Lindelof ask two big questions in the movie, “who created us” and “why do our creators hate us.” Yet they only answer the first question with a very simple “because they could.” Dammit Lindelof, that’s about as in-depth and thought-provoking of an answer as the one you gave for “what is the island.” There is absolutely zero character development in this movie and it says something about a movie when the most interesting and thought out character is an emotionless android.

Michael Fastbender’s David, who is the aforementioned android, easily steals this movie and aside from the visuals, is the best part of it. But what about the other characters? Well, the Prometheus is said to have a crew of seventeen and yet out of those we only (sorta) get to know five of them, not that we really get to know any of these people. These are supposed to be scientists and yet none of them, save for Noomi Rapace’s character Elizabeth Shaw, seems to care about the most important discovery in human history. Hell, one of the characters (I’m not even sure if he even has a name) is said to be a geologist and it seems like he could give two shits about the geology of this mysterious planet he’s on. If this is a “thinking man’s movie” shouldn’t I want to know what the characters think about the most important discovery in the history of man and shouldn’t I care about them in some way? Yet, when people start dying horrifically I could not care less nor could I probably tell you who they even were. They might as well have been red shirts from Star Trek.

The rest of the cast is made up of the likes of Charlize Theron, who plays Meredith Vickers, representative for the  Weyland Corp and an uptight bitch. That’s pretty much the extent of her role here. Logan Marshall-Green plays Shaw’s boyfriend/fellow scientist Charlie Holloway, we only know they are an item because they have sex about half-way through the movie (see, told you there’d be spoilers). His character doesn’t do much other than pout and get drunk when they get to the planet and then bang Shaw, I don’t think he actually performs any science in the entire movie (aside from the science of sex that is). Then there’s Guy Pearce as Peter Weyland, who is caked in prosthetics and bad make up. Why they cast him in this I’m not really sure, they could have just cast an actual old man and we would have ended up with the same results minus the bad make up. These are all cliched characters that we’ve seen plenty of times in other movies.

Director Ridley Scott knows how to make a beautiful looking movie and that goes for this one as well, despite it merely being window dressing this time around. Sure, the movie has some cool action sequences as well as some gruesome parts, like a scene in which Shaw must perform surgery on herself. That scene is the closest this movie gets to the gruesome horror of original Alien. Scott previously stated that this movie isn’t so much a prequel as it is more of a movie that contains the DNA of the original, which is a very true statement in every way.  Do we see xenomorphs in Prometheus? Well sorta. We do get to see an early form of the xenomorphs and that is pretty cool. Truth be told, I’m okay with this not being a direct prequel to Alien- if it had been I would have been even more disgusted with the finished results than I currently am.

If Ridley Scott and company wanted to truly make this a “thinking man’s movie” then they should have created a better movie with characters that actually think in the first place. Will this movie get a sequel? Probably, but will it be any good? Probably not. If you want to see a movie filled with cardboard characters and lack of a plot but that looks amazing then this is the movie for you. If you want to see a good movie, go re-watch Alien and Aliens.

Score: 2/5

Well it’s a pretty good day to be Damon Lindelof. Today not only sees the release of Prometheus, which he co-wrote, but THR is reporting that Lindelof has been hired to rewrite Paramount’s World War Z. He was brought in to polish up the films troubled third act.

World War Z, staring and produced by Brad Pitt, has been in trouble for awhile now. The zombie film from director Marc Forster was originally set for release in December but was then moved to June 21, 2013. Reshoots are set to begin in September and October. The film was shot last year in Europe and also stars Mireille Enos, James Badge Dale and Anthony Mackie.

The film is based on based on the 2006 book by Max Brooks, which tells the story of the decade-long zombie war (World War Z), from the individual accounts of various survivors around the world.

Only time will tell if wonder boy Lindelof can work some magic on the script and save the day. Stay tuned and find out!
