Briefly: FX always puts together a myriad of insanely creepy teasers for each season of American Horror Story, and it looks as though this year won’t be any different. The network has debuted the first short video for Freakshow, entitled ‘Fallen Angel’.

As always, it’s creepy as hell and a great, great tease, and we can’t wait to see what comes next.

As revealed by EW back in MarchFreakshow is ”Set in Jupiter, Florida, in 1950″ and “finds Jessica Lange playing a German ex-pat who is managing one of the last freak shows in the U.S.”

Take a look at the ‘Fallen Angel’ teaser below, and let us know what you think! American Horror Story: Freakshow premieres this October!

Briefly: It was just a few days ago that the official subtitle for American Horror Story‘s fourth season was announced, and FX has already begun to announce new cast members.

During today’s PaleyFest panel it was revealed that The Shield and No Ordinary Family (which shouldn’t have been cancelled) star Michael Chiklis has joined the series, and will play the father of Evan Peters’ character, and ex husband of Kathy Bates’ (as Peters confirmed in the tweet below).

Details on the season are still scarce, but we do know that ”Set in Jupiter, Florida, in 1950, Freak Show finds Jessica Lange playing a German ex-pat who is managing one of the last freak shows in the U.S.”

What do you think of the news? Are you excited for the new addition? Sound out below!

Briefly: Back in January, American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy revealed that the series’ fourth season would be set in the 1950’s, and that series regular Jessica Lange would be returning for another year.

Today, he revealed this year’s official title:

Entertainment Weekly has expanded further on the announcement, revealing that the season is”Set in Jupiter, Florida, in 1950, Freak Show finds Jessica Lange playing a German ex-pat who is managing one of the last freak shows in the U.S.”

EW also has the list of returning cast (so far), which features Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, and Frances Conroy, while Dennis O’Hare and Emma Roberts are still in negotiations.

Are you looking forward to another year of American Horror Story? What do you hope to see in the season?

Briefly: We’re still two weeks away from the finale of American Horror Story‘s fantastic third season, Coven, but creator Ryan Murphy is already letting details slip on the anticipated next season of the celebrated series.

Speaking with EW, Ryan stated:

“If you look historically what happened in the year 1950, there’s some more clues in that year. It’s a period piece. We try and do the opposite of what we’ve done before. Jessica Lange has already started practicing her German accent so I’m very excited!”

So, 1950, and Jessica Lange is German, huh? I’ve got no idea where we’re headed, but a post-WWII American Horror Story tale sure sounds interesting. What do you want to see next, and what do you think of Coven so far? Sound out below!

Briefly: We’re just four episodes into American Horror Story: Coven, and FX has already renewed the series for a fourth season.

“Put simply, Ryan Murphy is a master television producer,” said Landgraf. “Time and time again he reinvents the form. What he, co-creator Brad Falchuk and their producers Dante Di Loreto, Tim Minear, Jennifer Salt, James Wong, Brad Buecker, Jessica Sharzer, Douglas Petrie, Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, Alexis Martin Woodall and the entire production team and cast responsible for the American Horror Story franchise have done is nothing short of extraordinary. Every year, they create a riveting and brilliant new miniseries.  AHS: Coven is the best yet, and I have no doubt that the next installment will be even better.”

The network has ordered an additional 13 episodes to compose the fourth season. We’ll share more info as soon as it’s announced!

Coven

Briefly: With just over a week to go until premiere, FX has just debuted a new featurette and two new promos for the anticipated American Horror Story: Coven.

The featurette digs into the portrayal of Voodoo in Hollywood, and in essence, just how wrong it is. We see interviews with real Voodoo priestesses and historians, and it really makes you wonder how the Voodoo will be portrayed in the series.

In any case, I can’t wait. Take a look at the new videos below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the premiere. American Horror Story: Coven debuts on October 9th!

American Horror Story: Coven tells the secret history of witches and witchcraft in America. Over 300 years have passed since the turbulent days of the Salem witch trials and those who managed to escape are now facing extinction. Mysterious attacks have been escalating against their kind and young girls are being sent away to a special school in New Orleans to learn how to protect themselves. Wrapped up in the turmoil is new arrival, Zoe (Taissa Farmiga), who is harboring a terrifying secret of her own. Alarmed by the recent aggression, Fiona (Jessica Lange), the long-absent Supreme, sweeps back into town, determined to protect the Coven and hell-bent on decimating anyone who gets in her way.

Briefly: Following the opening credits reveal and new promos from just a few days back, FX today debuted two new teasers for the upcoming American Horror Story: Coven.

With just 11 days to go until the season premiere, I wonder just how many  teasers they could possibly have up their sleeves. Seriously, there has to be at least two dozen by now.

The two newest videos, titled “The Stand” and “Black Hat” are effective as always, and do a good job of reminding me that I can’t wait until October 9th. Take a look at the new videos below, and let us know what you think!

Today, FX released a trio of new videos for the series. The first is Coven‘s creepy-ass opening credits, followed by two more tiny teasers (titled ‘Study Hall’ and ‘Hair Don’t’).

Briefly: It’s been a relatively slow Friday, but of course, another day means another promo for the highly anticipated American Horror Story: Coven.

Today, we get both a new poster and a teaser featuring some actual footage. Most of the other teasers, while creepy and creative, don’t actually have a lot to do with the series, but not so with this preview. “Burn” features our first look at AHS alum Taissa Farmiga, well, being a witch.

Briefly: Following the slithery new teaser released just yesterday, FX has debuted four new posters for the highly anticipated American Horror Story: Coven.

It’s a good thing that the marketing for the series thus far has been very effective, otherwise we’d all be beyond sick of it by now. It seems as though there’s either a new poster or teaser released daily, but at this point I’m simply so excited for Coven that I’ll take whatever I can get!

Actually, they’re probably teasing the fact that voodoo will have a place in the series, but really, who knows at this point!

Briefly: Following the cool ‘Initiation’ promo released just yesterday, FX has revealed the plot synopsis for American Horror Story: Coven‘s debut episode, Bitchcraft.

Unsurprisingly, Coven sounds intriguing as hell! The season premieres on October 9th, and should be an absolute blast. Take a gander at the synopsis below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to it!

A young girl, Zoe, is shattered to discover she possesses a strange genetic affliction tracing back to the dark days of Salem. Zoe is whisked away to Miss Robichaux’s Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies, a mysterious school in New Orleans devoted to safeguarding the few remaining descendants who share this unique bloodline. Harboring a secret agenda, Fiona Goode, the most powerful witch of their generation, returns to town, reigniting old rivalries with the Coven’s deadly enemies, the Voodoo.

Briefly: The premiere of American Horror Story: Coven is fast approaching, and FX has just debuted a new teaser for the anticipated series.

Today’s preview offers our first official look at much of Coven‘s celebrated (and returning) cast in their new roles. It’s another well produced, creepy teaser that does a great job at garnering excitement for the upcoming season.

This marks the fifth teaser for Coven, none of which likely reference anything in the season itself (much like last year’s Asylum teasers). They are however, all very brief, and all creepy as hell.

I was a huge fan of the first two seasons of AHS, and love that each consecutive year of the show is a self contained story (though I’d love to jump back into the murder house). I really can’t wait to see what Coven brings to the table, and if it can hold its own again season two’s Asylum!

Upon the recent news regarding the casting and theme of next year’s American Horror Story vignette, I feel the need address one of the things that makes this show as amazing as it is: its sheer, unapologetic awkwardness. Never has a film, television series, or YouTube video made me so uncomfortable over the course of an hour (while loving every minute of it). I loved it so much in fact, that I have comprised a list of the most awkward moments from season 2.

SPOILER ALERT: I’m essentially telling you the entire plot (save the last few episodes), so if you haven’t seen it yet, stop reading now.

9. Evan Peters Gets an Anal Probing

This happens within the first ten minutes, so not much of a spoiler, but holy balls is it awkward. One second he’s chilling with his wife, and the next there’s a big green alien hand headed for his… well ass. What makes it worse is that not one, but TWO fingers are extended. Ryan Murphy has to know that this is the number of fingers designated “the pleaser”. This was certainly a banger way to start off the series. Pun most definitely intended.

8. The Best Solution to Alien Abduction? Polygamy…

So this season not one, but TWO of Evan Peters’ significant others also get abducted and impregnated by aliens (yet the kids are biologically his?). One apparently took a long time in gestation, so poor Evan just assumed she was dead. One day he comes home and BOOM his OTHER lady is home. His solution: polygamy. And thus it turned into an episode of Sister Wives. Apparently Ryan Murphy thinks this is the proper train of thought when placed in this situation, but I guess it is more believable than the alternative: having an American Gladiator style fight to the death. Maybe next season?

ahs-s02e12-2

7. Chloe Sevigny Insults the Size of James Cromwell’s *ahem* Nether-regions

At some point early in the plot, James attempts to rape Chloe and just when he whips out ol’ Richard she responds by laughing at how small it is. Now if it wasn’t awkward enough for viewers that they were about to witness rape, it ends with knowing that the old guy from Babe has a tiny penis. Way to ruin that movie… while simultaneously explaining a lot about it.

tumblr_mch2qp1tOL1qbooxeo1_500

6. Chloe Soon After is Turned into a Monster and Dumped in a Playground

Because she does insult Cromwell’s penis, his natural reaction is to it is to turn her into a Frankenstein monster and… dump her in a children’s playground? Apparently so… because soon after this occurrence we see the now deformed woman crawling through a playground thoroughly ensuring that all of the children there will be needing intensive therapy later in life. Seeing something that looks like a sea monkey crawling towards you and moaning isn’t something a juice box and some goldfish can fix, which makes this significantly more awkward for the kids than the audience.

5. Lots of Nun Whipping… Lots…

Nun on nun. Nun on slut. Nun on serial killer. Lots of nun whipping to be had Briarcliff, Jessica Lange having an entire wardrobe devoted to all of her paddles. And if this wasn’t confusing enough for your libido they actually show the asses of the people getting whipped, also proving that none of these people wear underwear. The weirdest of these whippings is most definitely the “nun on nun”. The innocent young nun drops her drawers to be spanked by the older, wiser nun. Is it just me, or is this the plot of every late 70’s porno?

4. Jessica Lange Tries to be Sexy…. and Succeeds…

She gives a priest a lap dance in a red satin lingerie piece… ‘Nuff said.

3. A Lesbian is Forced to Touch a Penis… and Cries

First off, I’d like to address how ridiculous it was that Lana didn’t just play straight for a week to get out of the insane asylum. That was the easiest solution to this problem. But noooooooo she had to go all proud lesbian (which I honor, I just think it’s a little impractical) and remain adamant that she liked the V. But to make matters worse (or potentially hilarious to the viewer) as therapy they make her touch the penis of a gorgeous man. Poor dear. And she responds by bursting into tears. Seriously, lesbians don’t find penises that horrifying in real life. They just would rather not participate. Ridiculous (and oh so awkward).

2. Channing Tatum’s Wife Gives Adam Levine a Blow Job While His Arm is Cut Off

I honestly had no idea how to condense the title of this one… Channing Tatum’s wife (that’s her real name, isn’t it?) gives Maroon 5 (he’s the only one in that band right?) a blow job while his arm gets hacked off. There’s not enough Colgate in the world to wash that taste out of your mouth. But at least you got to put Adam Levine’s penis in your mouth. I personally am still waiting on that call.

adam-levine-maroon-5-400x450

1. DYLAN MCDERMOTT SUCKS MILK FROM A HOOKER’S BOOB

YES! HE DOES! I… I cant…. I have never been more uncomfortable watching television since that episode of Murder, She Wrote where Angela Lansbury doesn’t wear a bra. This serves no purpose to the series other than to make the audience yell profanities at their TV because they can’t believe what’s going on. AND THEY TALK ABOUT IT SENSUALLY. The hooker comes over and begins to speak in a sultry voice saying things like “My nipples are so hard.” “I’m about to burst.” and my personal favorite “I’ve got a rockin’ body and a titty full of milk.”

got-milk

Done. All kinds of done. Here’s hoping that the next season brings more and more delightfully hard to watch nonsense (which it should, because Kathy Bates is probably playing a witch, and there’s not a damn person alive that doesn’t want to see that).

As series co-creator Ryan Murphy confirmed last year, each season of American Horror Story will have an entirely new story, completely separate from the world of the last.

First we had American Horror Story: Murder House (retroactively titled), which followed the broken Harmon family on an ill-fated quest to fix their issues after moving into an infamous house where countless people met their tragic end. Next up was American Horror Story: Asylum, featuring the Briarcliff Mental Institution and its mistreated inmates in the 1960’s.

During last night’s Paleyfest panel, Murphy revealed the final title for the next season of the popular series: American Horror Story: Coven. As rumored earlier this year, next season will revolve around a group of witches. Nothing is known about the plot at this time.

We’ll keep you posted on this one; I’m a huge fan of American Horror Story, and cannot wait for this next season to start!

After a series of dozens of tiny, creepy teasers that had nothing to do with the actual show, FX recently released a longer (though still only one minute) teaser showing just what’s to come in the upcoming season.

I can’t wait for the premiere. I was definitely a fan of the flawed, yet extremely entertaining first season. Whatever this year has to offer, it looks as though we’re at least going to get some fantastic performances.

American Horror Story: Asylum premieres in just nine days (October 17th)

“I hope you don’t mind if I don’t use anaesthetic” is a line that has stuck with me since first watching this. I can’t wait to see what this season (set long in the past) has to offer!

I’m really looking forward to the upcoming second season of American Horror Story (subtitled Asylum). The first season had it’s flaws, but overall was an excellently serialized account of a broken family and a haunted house.

Season one wrapped up so nicely that for some time I wonder how it would be continued. I was delightfully surprised when it was announced that each subsequent season of the series would be its own stand alone story. This makes the series extremely welcoming to newcomers, and its nice to see a chapter wrapped up because it should be, not simply continued for the sake of producing more.

Another very cool aspect is the fact that much of the cast from season one are returning as different characters, last year had a lot of great performances, and its nice to know we’ll be getting the same quality this year!

Check out the teaser for the upcoming season below! I know I’ll be checking into this asylum, how about you?

American Horror Story: Asylum premieres on October 17th on FX.

A few days ago we showed you some creepy new images for the upcoming second season of American Horror Story. Looks like EW revealed some plot details this week too. Sounds like some weird happenings are going on in this asylum.

The plot revolves around an insane asylum run by a group of nuns, and many of the patients that call it home. Jessica Lange (Big Fish, American Horror Story) portrays Sister Jude, head warden at the asylum, who very well may be the craziest one of the bunch if her character last year is any indication.

We’re set to see things that out-weird anything from last season, including Nazi doctors, aliens, and Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine, who says the coming season is “absolutely terrifying. Very gruesome.”

Co-creator Ryan Murphy also let out a tidbit about the future of the series, stating that “Every year of the show is a different miniseries, and there will be several chapters.” This insinuates that every year the show continues will be drastically different, which will certainly help to keep the scares fresh.

American Horror Story: Asylum premieres on October 17.

Asylum

American Horror Story was definitely one of last years more interesting new shows.

The show revolves around a dysfunctional family uprooting their existence and moving to Los Angeles in an attempt to prevent their lives from falling apart.

The Harmon family of course get more than they bargained for, and slowly discover (some sooner than others) that many of their new homes former inhabitants met very tragic ends, and even still reside there.

This series was not perfect. It had its share of issues, but the good definitely outweighed the bad, and I found it to be a gripping tale that kept me coming back for more. Plus a lot of it was creepy as hell.

Great performances, great style, and a great atmosphere were some of the series strongest points, and I’m hoping that translates to this years offering, which is an entirely new story.

FX has started viral marketing for the next season of the show. It started with a series of creepy teasers (watch here), and now they’ve released some unsettling teaser posters. Check them out below!

Season One will be available for rent or purchase on September 25. Season Two premieres on October 17.

So season two of American Horror Story on FX has just added their second returning cast member from the first year, as it is confirmed by Deadline.com that Zachary Quinto (who guest starred on a handful of episodes last season) will return to the show this year as the male lead. Instead of a haunted house in Los Angeles, the location for season two will instead by a haunted hospital on the east coast. This is the second cast member from year one coming back to the series, as it was previously confirmed that also returning to the show is Jessica Lange, who will be playing an all new part as well.

American Horror Story producer Ryan Murphy was very wise to keep Jessica Lange, the show’s most versatile actress. And they were just as smart to keep Quinto, whose star is certainly on the rise lately with the Star Trek movies. The anthology format allows these actors to show the same audience their acting range by playing different parts.

It should be noted that the double bill of openly gay Quinto and beloved-by-her-LGBT- fanbase Lange has officially made American Horror Story  THE gayest show on television. Yes, even more than Murphy’s own Glee. Hey Murphy, why not add Cher to the cast next season? And yes, I’m totally serious. You know it would be fabulous.

Bryans Singer and Fuller To Bring Back Star Trek To TV?

I’ve mentioned in this column before a few times in recent weeks how writer/producers Bryan Fuller and Bryan Singer are working on a Munsters reboot for NBC, now re-titled Mockingbird Lane. But these two might have more than just the Munsters in mind for television, and in fact are hoping to possibly collaborate on a new television incarnation of Star Trek in the near future.

Both Singer and Fuller are huge Trekkers; Singer even has a cameo in Star Trek: Nemesis as a random helmsman, and before producing cult series Pushing Daisies and Dead Like Me, Fuller got his start as a young staff writer on Voyager and Deep Space Nine. In late 2005, after Star Trek:Enterprise was cancelled, ending an eighteen year run of non stop Trek on television, Singer had his longtime friend and fellow writer/director Robert Meyer Burnett come up with a detailed pitch for Paramount for a new Trek show called Star Trek: Federation. Federation was set in the year 3000 to a vastly changed and declining United Federation of Planets. Singer and Burnett’s  proposal took into account how television storytelling had changed since the glory days of The Next Generation, something that Enterprise ultimately failed at. When Paramount decided to let the franchise rest on television for a while and reboot the series on the big screen instead with JJ Abrams’ film, Singer dropped pursuing his pitch. However, it’s been seven years since all that…could Singer and new colleague Fuller be reviving this idea?

My personal opinion is that while Singer and Burnett’s pitch for Federation is exactly what the franchise needs for television…now is probably not the time to do it. The movie franchise was only recently re-launched, and the first sequel does not arrive till next year. I say Let JJ Abrams and crew wrap their new Trek trilogy, and then maybe in say, 2016 (the 50th Anniversary of Star Trek) they could bring back the series to television and people would welcome it back with open arms after such a long absence.  The world of television is in major flux right now anyway, with the cost of shows growing and the viewership shrinking, and Netflix and the like becoming a new venue for showcasing new television series. Waiting a bit longer allows for the dust to settle in the television world AND whets the appetite for more television Star Trek among the general public.

Jessica Lange Returns To American Horror Story

Something else I mentioned in this column a few weeks back was the news that FX’s new hit series American Horror Story would effectively reboot every season, with a new haunted location and a new cast of characters and actors each time. But series producers Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have made at least one concession about returning former cast members, as Jessica Lange is confirmed as returning for the second season.

Jessica Lange was easily the show’s most valuable player, as her acting elevated the show’s sometimes cheestastic and over the top craziness to something resembling really good Grand Guignol theater. American Horror Story also got Lange a much deserved Golden Globe recently, and it would be foolish of the producers not to capitalize on Lange’s talent and buzz for as long as possible. Not much else is known yet about season two of the show, which isn’t set to debut until October. But FX released one promo image for the second season this week, which seemingly suggests not a haunted house, but a haunted hospital instead. I guess we’ll all find out just what location is haunted, as well as what other cast members will be returning, when the show comes back in the Fall.

Anne Rice’s Lestat Might Return To The Big Screen

For the last few years, as the vampire trend has spread through Hollywood like wildfire (or herpes) there has been one very noticeable omission: The Vampire Lestat, and all the other undead denizens of Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles series of novels.  But it looks like that might change very soon, as Ron Howard’s Imagine Entertainment has bought the rights to Anne Rice’s fourth Vampire novel The Tale of the Body Thief. Author Anne Rice announced the news on her Facebook page this week that Imagine has acquired the rights to Body Thief, and hired writer Lee Patterson, who wrote a well-regarded screenplay titled Snatched, to write the script. Producing with Imagine are Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, the writer-producers behind  FringeStar Trek and Transformers. Say what you will about this particular writing duo, but just about everything they work on eventually gets greenlit.

While it might seems strange to effectively reboot a film series using book number four in the cycle, Tale of the Body Thief is more or less a stand alone story that only really references characters and events from the first novel Interview with the Vampire, which was already successfully made into a movie. In the novel, Lestat is killing serial killers in Miami (kind of like a vampiric version of the television series Dexter) and grows bored of existence and tries to end his life, only to find that he can’t actually die. When approached by a mortal psychic who claims he can switch bodies for a brief time and Lestat can gain his mortality back, Lestat jumps at the chance, even when the titular body thief makes off with his powerful body and he has to track him down and get it back.

Unlike the two previous installments in the Vampire Chronicles, The Vampire Lestat and The Queen of the Damned, which both have a huge cast of characters and move around in time a lot, Body Thief is a pretty linearly straight forward story that would be far easier to make into a two hour movie than the previous two books in the series. I still maintain that the first three books of the series would make for a great cable series though. Please, someone in Hollywood get on that soon.

Buffy Makes A Controversial Choice, Gets Headlines In The Process

And  while we are on the subject of vampires, arguably the most famous vampire slayer of all time, Buffy Summers, made media headlines this week for probably the most unlikeliest of reasons. SPOILERS for Buffy from here on out folks- In Joss Whedon’s current comic book continuation of the series for Dark Horse Comics (Season 9 to be precise) Buffy has found out she is pregnant. In this past week’s issue, Buffy mulls over her options about what to do with her pregnancy, and ultimately decides to get an abortion.  It isn’t a decision Buffy comes to lightly, and it is handled extremely well by writer Andrew Chambliss and series creator Whedon.

Of course, just because Buffy is planning on getting an abortion doesn’t mean she’ll be successful at it though. The character of Buffy seems convinced the father is any number of men she could have had sex with (but conveniently doesn’t remember) back in a raging house warming party in issue #1 of Season 9. However (again-SPOILERS) I would be genuinely shocked if the father of the baby is anyone other than long time vampire love Angel, whom Buffy had sex with at the end of Season 8 while both characters were in this mystical God-like state (don’t ask) Yes, those events were supposed to take place a good six months prior to the where the comic storylines take place now, but who is to say how long mystical pregnancies are supposed to last? And do you really think Joss Whedon would have the father of Buffy’s baby be some new character the readers have little emotional investment in, or have the father be none other than Buffy’s greatest lover/enemy?

Of course, if this really does end up being just  “A very special episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer” where she gets an abortion and just has to deal with the consequences in a real life kinda way, then the father just might be a nobody. BUT…if indeed the baby can’t be aborted somehow and she is forced to have it, then I stick to my theory that the father is none other than Angel. If I’m right, then you heard it here first fellow geeks.

DC To Launch Smallville Season 11 In Comic Book Form

Taking a cue from Dark Horse Comics’ previously mentioned continuation of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer tv series, DC Comics is looking to continue the long running (ten frickin’ seasons) television series Smallville with a comic book version of Season 11. The Smallville television series ended with the Tom Welling version of Clark Kent finally wearing the cape and tights of Superman, making some longtime rabid fans of the series really happy. Seriously, just watch this one fan watch the Smallville series finale around the five minute mark-I’ve never had an orgasm this intense.

Although previously rumored to be a series of prose novels, DC Comics have officially announced a “Smallville Season 11” comic book series this past week, which will be published digitally beginning April 13 with a new issue every week. The series will also be collected in print beginning in May. Series scribe will be Bryan Q. Miller, a former writer and story editor from the TV series, as well as former writer of the Stephanie Brown version of Batgirl which ended last year before the big DC reboot. The current plan is to pick up some six months from where the show left off, with Clark finally embracing his role as a public super hero. As part of the press release, Miller said “I couldn’t be more excited to help give seasoned viewers and new readers an all-access pass to Clark’s first year in the cape.

Smallville is certainly the most popular version of Superman in the media since the Christopher Reeve version, so continuing that version of the character seems like a no-brainer to me. My question is-which of the new DC 52 Earths is “Earth-Smallville?” And will Supes ever wear the red shorts or not? Because ya know, I find that I kinda miss those.
