We Go 1 On 1 With Rob Liefeld at Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo 2014!

This past weekend, at the Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo in Los Angeles, we went 1 on 1 with Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld on the Main Stage. Rob took the reigns right off the bat and raced off at breakneck speed! He tells the crowd about breaking into comics, his career and whether or not he considers himself a controversial figure. We also talk about Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, bringing that character to the big screen and what makes that character work!

Rob Liefeld Gives A More Encouraging Update On ‘Deadpool’ Movie

Earlier today we posted a piece about director Tim Miller giving an update on the status of the Deadpool big screen adaptation that made it sound like there was nothing really going on with that at the moment. But, with Mark Millar coming in to oversee Fox’s comic book project’s the chance of Wade Wilson hitting the big screen have definitely increased. And it actually sounds like there may be going on with the flick than Miller let us know.

Deadpool creator Robert Liefeld has chimed in on Twitter stating that the departure of former Fox CEO Tom Rothman is one obstacle down on the path to bringing everyone’s favorite Merc With The Mouth to the big screen. Liefeld says that he’s actually already met with Mark Millar & Tim Miller to discuss the project.

But what was the most interesting piece of his Tweets today? Well, Liefeld re-tweeted the following tweet:

 

Could there be big plans to get re-introduce the character to the big screen after the abomination that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine? It’s quite possible. The script for the film has actually leaked out and been praised across internet forums and there is a bit of test footage that was made that Liefeld has called “Bloody PERFECT.” Fox, the fans have spoken. Make this one happen.

Geekscape Comics: Judd Winick Leaving ‘Batwing’

DC has had another writer decide to depart from their creative team. Last week Rob Liefeld decided to leave and now it’s been announced that Judd Winick will be leaving Batwing. He told the following to Newsarama:

“It’s with a heavy heart that I announce that I’ll be leaving the DC monthly Batwing. I’ve had a terrific time on the title and have loved crafting this adventure with some phenomenal people. Artists Ben Oliver, Marcus To, and Brain Reber have made these stories come to life. I will miss telling the tales of David Zavimbe, the Batman of Africa in many ways, but I’m proud of the work we’ve done. My departure is simply a time issue. I’m pursing a few other projects that make it impossible for me continue doing a monthly book.

Winick had previously walked away from Catwoman after receiving excessive amounts of criticism for his writing of the title. His departure from the comic is definitely not as blown up and excessive as Liefeld’s and definitely hasn’t gone on to him calling out writer Scott Snyder. Oh, if you didn’t know about that one…it’s something to look up. Winick has not confirmed what his last issue will be, but DC has him as the writer on the title through November’s issue #14. No new writer has been announced by DC yet.

Geekscape Comics: After Zero Issues Rob Liefeld Is Leaving DC Comics

We all knew that Rob Liefeld would be leaving DC but it seemed that he would be sticking it out through next year. But just today Rob Liefeld announced on Twitter than he would be gone after September’s zero issues. No, he will not be staying on any of the titles. Yes, he is leaving DC entirely. Liefeld tweeted the following:

The 0′s are my last issues. Thanks for all the love.

This is the 4th time I quit in the last 4 months. This time it will stick.

Never thought the Image section of my book would be topped. This last year was a humdinger. The DC 52 chapters will go top all of it.

Reasons are the same as everyone’s that you hear. I lasted a few months longer than I thought possible.

Massive indecision, last minute and I mean LAST minute changes that alter everything. Editor pissing contests… No thxnjs

While, I think many people may be happy that Rob Liefeld is leaving, alot of his complaints have been stated by numerous creators working on DC’s New 52. This makes it appear that upcoming creator changes may be happening sooner than later and we may possibly even see the cancellation of some of these titles. I had heard rumors a bit back that Savage Hawkman was definitely on the chopping block and it looks like DC may either now choose to give it a new team or just cut it. Cue numerous comments about his lack of ability to draw feet.

Rob Liefeld’s ‘Bloodstrike’ Is Coming To The Big Screen

For quite some time now we have been hearing about many of Rob Liefeld projects being adapated for the big screen. Roughly around a year ago word broke that Youngblood would be getting a movie but since then there has been no updates. Well, now Variety is reporting that we will indeed be seeing one of Liefeld’s properties turned into a movie but it’s not the one that we expected. Image Comics Bloodstrike is being brought to the big screen from Adi Shankar’s 1984 Private Defense Contractors, the company behind The Grey, Machine Gun Preacher and that upcoming female version of The Expendables. He will be producing the film alongside Rob Liefeld and Brooklyn Weaver (The Number 23).

Bloodstrike is among the just recently relaunched Image Comic titles to “come back from the dead” after the series final issue in 1995. With the aim of launching a franchise, the site describes the project as focusing on, “a Bloodstrike unit consisting of a team of super-soldiers who have secretly been imbued with vampire blood — making them an elite strike force feared by all enemies.”

Rumor is that if Liefeld can’t make the Hawkman or Grifter books work than they may be next for cancellation. Maybe he is returning to Image to focus on some of his own work? So, what do you think or do any of you care if he leaves the New 52?
