This Week:

Shane is out so we talk about Rick and Morty.  Courtney is more awkward than usual, renews her hate for PETA, and plays the same two games she always plays (Skyrim and Overwatch). She’s still waiting for her PS4 controller. Derek has a new found hate for Fusion Frenzy, but loves Accounting+. Josh has a test, but mostly played Dragon Ball Z, Monster Hunter World, Battlefront II, Street Fighter, and Fire Emblem Heroes.

The time has come, the Walrus said, for another Geekscape Unboxing! In this post, we will be featuring the Loot Wear December 2016 Crate, themed to Revolution! My wonderful friend, Rio, kindly modeled several of the items in this shipment for me (they look infinitely better on her than me). Let us begin with my favorite item in this month’s Crate, the Spider-Gwen bi-fold wallet!

The wallet is modeled after Spider-Gwen’s uniform and features pink metallic accents on the outside. The gut of the wallet is standard fare: zippered change pocket in the middle and small sleeves for cards followed by large ones for bills on both sides. The quality seems sturdy and the outside zipper moved smoothly.

Next up is a t-shirt starring the leading duo from Invader Zim. The print was colorful, vibrant, and definitely eye-catching. The shirt’s material was soft and had some “give” to it. The length hit a little below the waist.

I know zero about Rick and Morty so this light-weight hoodie featuring the show’s Meeseeks character was cool but didn’t have as much appeal to me as it did to Rio, a fan of the show. The hoodie has an all-around print and fits like a tunic, reaching below the wearer’s rear.

There was a second Rick and Morty item as well, a pair of men’s briefs. Like the hoodie, it featured a wrap-around print of one of the show’s characters. As is typical of Loot Wear underwear, the briefs were stretchy and smooth to touch. I imagine a fan of the show would get a kick out of them.

The final items were two pairs of socks, one inspired by Guardians of the Galaxy and the other by Mr. Robot. These were thicker ones than the socks I have been seeing in previous shipments. Perhaps it is because of the weather this time of year.

If this unboxing has you interested in subscribing, you can get some money off of your first Crate either by following this link or entering “Geekscape” into the promo code area upon checkout.

[This unboxing is based on a sample supplied by Loot Crate.]

Sometime last year I was on reddit and stumbled upon a Simpsons couch gag that was on the front page. It was a crossover where ‘Ricky and Morty’ crash on the couch and need to try and set things right with hilarious outcomes. That was my first introduction to ‘Rick and Morty’ and my mind was blown by the pure carnage and awesomeness that was presented to me. I proceeded to devour the first season and patiently wait for season 2 to shortly premier.

Season 2 picks up a some time after where season 1 ends, but since the Smith parents were frozen in time, it comes off like it was right after. We aren’t privy to the shenanigans that took place in that lost time. One of the greatest things they did this season was to focus on episodes to episode continuity, i’m a big fan of this type of plot tool that has been used by the likes of South Park and Gravity Falls. Small little connecting fibers that offer a big pay off towards the end of the season. With ‘Rick and Morty’ being much like the latter and giving us little mini mysteries to solve will following along the insane stories. Another upgrade this season was heavily involving the rest of the smith clan, Summer voiced by Spencer Grammer , Beth voiced by Sarah Chalke and my favorite being Jerry voiced by the insanely talented Chris Parnell (seriously this guy is everywhere).

Overall the season was awesome and just raised the bar from last season and cant wait for season 3.

rick and morty family

The Blu-Ray contains all 10 gut busting hilarious episodes along with commentary with Dan Harmon, Justin Roiland, Ryan Ridley, and Wes Archer. The blu-ray bonus features is very sparse, here’s a breakdown of whats included.

Deleted Anamatics Sketches:

This 3 sketches that were cut from the season, my favorite being the full ButtHole Ice Cream sketch. With only 3 sketches totaling in 2 minutes nothing else can be said about this bonus.

Rick and Morty Season 2 Premier Party featuring Chaos Chaos:

This was a basically a 43 minute live music video for the band Chaos Chaos while series creator Justin Roiland created live drawings in the background. I was kinda hoping mini interviews with the cast and creators about the season providing a  little more in depth look into the creation of the show. I know from a previous “behind the scenes” mocumentary video its not really there thing to record that type of bonus material.

Animatics:

Animatics of all 10 episodes from the season. Since i’m not gifted as an artist these features always get wasted on me since i cant appreciate them.

Bonus:

There was also a handbook on how to care for a plumbus, i’m still not entirely sure what i’m using it for.

While typing out this review i left the blu ray on the menu and noticed that all the featured songs from the season were playing. Wish that was a Bonus Feature being able to access those clips and songs.

Still playing Pocket Mortys?

Of course you are! It’s still in the top 10 of most popular downloads for Android & IOS. The Pokemon tribute game launched last month to instant popularity and has been addicting the fans and the internet ever since. Now, the game finally has it’s first content update available right now, and it’s pretty big. As of right now you can download 19 new Mortys to capture. These include V Neck Morty, Afro Morty, Sleepy Morty, and even more. You’ll also be able to capture Mascot Morty if you’ve been having trouble with him. There are also the standard bug fixes and such as with all games. Are you ready to jump back into Pocket Mortys with this new update?

Just this morning Adult Swim Games surprised Rick & Morty fans with a real treat.

About a week ago the company announced that a Pokemon inspired game based off the popular TV show would be releasing on mobile devices for free on January 14th, but it seems even they got impatient. You can now pick up Pocket Mortys right now on both IOS and Android for the price of absolutely free!

Check out the 12 minute gameplay video by Gamespot, and then go download the game!

Briefly: Rick and Morty has been renewed for a third season.

The animated series from Community‘s Dan Harmon and House of Cosbys’ Justin Roiland follows a sociopathic scientist who drags his unintelligent grandson on insanely dangerous adventures across the universe, and it’s absolutely freaking hilarious.

If you haven’t seen the show, I’d implore you to check it out. In my opinion, it’s the funniest show on Adult Swim right now, and Harmon and Roiland have developed a masterpiece. Seriously, the parodies and homages here are perfect.

“It’s an honor to see ‘Rick and Morty’ join the exclusive club of shows with over nineteen episodes,” said co-creator and executive producer Dan Harmon. “It’s time to demand that the network allow us to draw the characters going to Hawaii.”

“I am blown away by the seemingly instant success of ‘Rick and Morty.’ I look forward to continuing their adventures!” said co-creator and executive producer Justin Roiland.

Have you been watching the series? What do you think of season two so far?

If you haven’t seen the show, I’d implore you to give it a shot. It’s one of the funniest things that I’ve seen on Adult Swim in some time, and Harmon and Roiland have created an absolute masterpiece. Seriously, the parodies and homages here are beyond perfect.

Back when it was renewed, Harmon said that “I am excited to make as much Rick and Morty as Adult Swim allows, and I’m relieved to be in a time slot of no strategic value to CBS”, while Roiland added “I am humbled and super excited by the positive response to the show, and we have no shortage of ideas for future episodes.” So hopefully that means this year won’t be the last we see of the series.

You can take a look at the brand new trailer below, and be sure to let us know if you’re excited! Rick and Morty returns on July 26th!

Now, let’s just hope that Community gets renewed too, now that Harmon’s back and it’s awesome again.

Briefly: Rick and Morty, the new animated series from Community‘s Dan Harmon and House of Cosbys’ Justin Roiland just got its premiere date a few weeks ago, and now you can watch the pilot online!. The show follows a sociopathic scientist who drags his unintelligent grandson on insanely dangerous adventures across the universe, and it looks absolutely hilarious.

Here’s a synopsis from Adult Swim:

After missing for nearly 20 years, Rick Sanchez (Justin Roiland) suddenly arrives at his daughter Beth’s (Sarah Chalke) doorstep looking to move in with her and her family. Beth welcomes him with open arms, but her unremarkable husband Jerry (Chris Parnell) isn’t too thrilled about the tearful reunion as Rick’s arrival serves to shake things up quite a bit around the household. Rick converts the garage into his personal laboratory and gets to work on all sorts of dangerous sci-fi gadgets and contraptions. That wouldn’t be so bad if not for the fact that Rick continues to involve his grandchildren Morty (Roiland) and Summer (Spencer Grammer) in his insane adventures.

Rick and Morty doesn’t premiere until this coming Monday, but you can check out the first episode in its entirety below. I haven’t had an opportunity to watch yet, but the show looks great, and a duo like Harmon and Roiland is very promising.

Watch the first episode below, and let us know what you think!
