Lucas Returns To ‘Super Smash Bros.’ On June 14th!

Nintendo has announced that on June 14th, Super Smash Bros. will receive its next DLC update, including Brawl favorite, Lucas.

Hailing from the Game Boy Advance RPG, Mother 3, (which STILL has yet to be released in the West,) Lucas looks like he’s bringing all the abilities he had from his last appearance. Similar to Mother 2/Earthbound star, Ness at first glance, each of Lucas’ special moves have different properties. Relying more on his trademark PSI moves for his standard attacks, these moves extend his reach with most moves while relying less on tools. Top that off with his trusty Rope Snake for long range grabbing or edge tethering, and it’s easy to see why Lucas was so missed.

Previously announced alongside Mewtwo’s release date, Lucas will release for $3.99 for one version of Smash, or $4.99 for both the Wii U and 3DS. In addition, a free Miiverse themed stage, and the Splatoon costume pack for the playable Mii characters, (which will be free for those who kept their GameStop pick up receipts for the new shooter,) will also be added, helping an already large game get that much bigger.

3DS Update Adds Miiverse, Nintendo Network ID!

Briefly: Nintendo has taken another step into the 21st century.

A just-launched 3DS firmware update has added some long-awaited, much needed features to the console.

First up: we’ve had Miiverse on our Wii U’s for over a year, and have been posting from our smartphones for months now. Today, the 3DS finally joins the party. You’ll be able to read, post, doodle, and more, with even more functionality (mainly friends) still coming down the pipeline.

The next why-wasn’t-it-there-from-the-start piece of the update adds a unified Nintendo ID option for the system. You can now log into the same Nintendo account on your 3DS as you have on your Wii U. This allows you to share a balance (finally) and view your wish list from either console.

To celebrate, why don’t you run and pick up a Wii U? That Wind Waker HD bundle looks pretty tasty.

Animal Crossing Plaza Moves Into Miiverse!

At the end of this morning’s Nintendo Direct video, Satoru Iwata shared the stage with Isabelle, the incredibly stunning assistant to the mayor in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and unveiled Animal Crossing Plaza for Wii U. When is it coming, you ask? That’s the best part, because we’ll have to wait for a grand total of… nothing! That’s right, the plaza is available now!

Acting as its own version of WaraWara Plaza, (where Mii’s you come across talk about the latest games they’re playing,) 3DS mayors will be able to use their SD cards on the Wii U to share screenshots, QR codes for those outfits you’ve spent hours making, and discuss villagers with other players. Outside of the plaza, a special Miiverse community has opened up for the series, so Wii U owners can set up all the shady trades they want directly through Nintendo now.

The bad part? The service will only be available until the end of 2014, so soak it up while you can. It has to be a first for a company to announce that they’re dropping support for a feature right after it’s announced, but maybe it’s incentive for all those New Leaf owners to buy a Wii U? Nah, didn’t think so.
