Bethesda’s New Game Officially Announced! Survival Horror With Help From The Creator Of Resident Evil!

So the rumors have been quelled. Earlier this week Bethesda tweeted this “Mysterious” trailer for their next game. What trailer? THIS!

 

 

When I first saw it I thought they were making a new Nine Inch Nails video. Well as of not too long ago it was officially announced over at Tango Gameworks Site what them and Bethesda are doing! From their site:

Our latest project’s codename is “Zwei” and it is a survival horror game.
The above image ( The banner image for this article) is a collage of different environments we put together for this announcement and is intended to give a feel for the tone and the direction the production is taking. (However, neither the code name nor the image is intended to tell you exactly what is in the game.)

As a master of the ‘survival horror’ genre, Shinji Mikami is committed to making a game that is the realization of pure survival horror, an experience which he defines as one that pushes the limits of fear and exhilaration. He and his team at Tango are committed to attaining this vision.

Shinji Mikami, if you don’t know, is the man who created Resident Evil. He invented modern survival horror.

The game is being developed by Tango Gameworks and is going to be published by Bethesda… so there’s that. No info about release, or platforms have been announced. Just…be excited.

Reddit Is Planning A Weekend Revival For ‘Battlefield Bad Company 2: Vietnam’

A couple of weeks ago over on the Battlefield 3 subreddit, user Radarbeamer posted a depressing picture. An empty Bad Company 2: Vietnam server. The game that made him fall in love with the series.

Now the game is only just two years old, and the entire community has vanished. Well a few guys over at the same subreddit have put together a Rejuvenation Weekend of sorts. Starting Friday the 19th and going until Monday morning, they are asking all fans of the mod to flood the servers on their respective platform and play the game!

If you’ve gotten this far and are asking “What the hell is this all about?” well let me bring you up to speed. Battlefield: Vietnam was the second game in the series, and it came out in 2004. It was one of the first games to take players into the Vietnam war, and is probably still one of the best. The guns, the vehicles and even the music was there. Players had the ability to turn on radios in the vehicles and cycle through period music. The best song had to be Flight of the Valkyries. Loading up a Huey and charging a beach, Apocalypse Now style was epic.

So come Winter 2010 and players of the wildly popular Bad Company 2 were greeted with a joyous announcement. DICE was releasing a Vietnam add on! New maps, new weapons and the same gritty environment from the past! It was awesome! I myself, consider Bad Company 2: Vietnam one of the best games in the series, if not THE best. That’s right, even beating out Battlefield 3. My favorite gaming moment was on Cao Son Temple. Playing as the US army, we had to push up from a small river village, past a temple and into Vietcong controlled docks. I was playing as a medic. The battle was so intense that I only fired my weapon once, and I missed! I racked up a total of 0 kills and 65 deaths. I got MVP of the game for my revive and healing skills.

I am typing this after jumping around office doing my happy dance. My coworker across the hall thinks I am crazier for it, but I am not ashamed, for Pure Pwnage IS COMING BACK! AS A MOVIE! Take a look at their announcement video below.

OH MY GOD! What else is there to say? If you were a gamer and alive in the early 2000’s then you know who Pure Pwnage is. Even if you don’t, you at least know who FPSDoug is. “Everyone knows you run faster with a knife!” is a quote that echos through time, and to see the gang back together again is amazing.

I’ll be the first to admit I’m not much of a gamer…but Skyrim is no ordinary game. It’s quite possibly the best game I’ve ever played in my life.  Like many people though, I ran out of things to do months ago and I’ve been eager to revisit the incredibly realized fictional universe. Bethesda has been hinting at downloadable content for some time, and now the trailer for Dawnguard is finally here.  No release date has been set yet, but Dawnguard has been confirmed for a summer release.

Please Skyrim… come and take away every spare moment of my free time. I’m already growing out my Nord beard in anticipation.

I love my Macbook Pro. It serves me well when I want to get work done on the go or just to keep in touch with all my news feeds to stay in the loop. What it can’t do for me is jump into some Super Street Fighter 4 AE sessions with my friends while away from my gaming PC. With so many choices out there, I was able to bend the ear of Origin PC CEO Kevin Wasielewski to get some quick answers to some questions I had.

I am still weighing the decision of getting a gaming laptop after my talk with Kevin Wasielewski. I still hate the fact that gaming laptops are bulky and now that Alienware has killed off their M11x 11 inch gaming laptop, It seems I would have no choice but to go bulky. Maybe I can convince Kevin to make a 13 inch EON laptop?

GOG.com Spring Announcements: Witcher II: Assassins of Kings Edition , Trine, Legend of Grimrock AND MORE!

The fabulous folks over at GOG (Good Old Games) have released a STAGGERING amount of news today regarding their deal with CD Projekt RED and their spring lineup.

Two weeks before the release of Witcher II: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition, GOG and CD Projekt Red, the Polish developer of the Witcher series, wll stream a live event. The official press release says:

“Just two weeks before we launch Enhanced Edition on Xbox 360 and PC,
and we’re doing something that is truly extraordinary. I don’t think
anyone’s ever done something like this for their gamers. We have
prepared pretty big surprises for gamers of all kinds, and we think
that you will enjoy them a lot. If games are your passion, watch our
conference,” said Marcin Iwinski, Joint CEO of CD Projekt RED S.A.

Witcher II: Assassins of Kings is slated to ship internationally on May 17th. So make sure to check out GOG.com two weeks prior for the live stream.

If you are unfamiliar with GOG, let me bring you up to speed. They are a revolutionary group of lads and lasses that offer DRM-FREE digital distribution of games. They’re know for offering games that have been long out of print. It’s the only place to get a copy of my favorite PC FPS of all time, SHOGO.

Starting with Witcher II and Legend of Grimrock (GOG is the only digital distrubution service offering preorders of Legend of Grimrock, and they are putting a 20% discount on top of that.) they will start moving out of the “Classic Game” market and begin offering DRM-FREE new releases! Along with the new stuff, you can get copies of Trine and The Whispered World as well.

So what does this mean for us PC gamers? Well GOG has always been a nuisance to their competitors but never really offered anything for the likes of STEAM, ORiGIN or Direct2Drive to really be worried about. Now though, with the advent of true DRM-FREE release day available games, it is really putting GOG up there in the same boat as STEAM. We’ve all been there, internet goes down, moving or leaving on a jet plane and no access to the Steamcloud and all those games out of reach, hopefully this push by GOG will make STEAM and the others to offer a bit of change.
