Briefly: We’re just a few weeks away from the holy-crap-I-can’t-wait-for-it return of HBO’s True Detective, and following the second season’s first trailer from a few weeks back, and the recent character posters, the network has debuted two new trailers for the upcoming episodes

This season’s tagline is “We get the world we deserve”, and creator Nic Pizzolatto stated this year was all about “hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system.”

This season, “A bizarre murder brings together three law-enforcement officers and a career criminal, each of whom must navigate a web of conspiracy and betrayal in the scorched landscapes of California. Colin Farrell is Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective in the all-industrial City of Vinci, LA County. Vince Vaughn plays Frank Semyon, a criminal and entrepreneur in danger of losing his life’s work, while his wife and closest ally (Kelly Reilly), struggles with his choices and her own. Rachel McAdams is Ani Bezzerides, a Ventura County Sheriff’s detective often at odds with the system she serves, while Taylor Kitsch plays Paul Woodrugh, a war veteran and motorcycle cop for the California Highway Patrol who discovers a crime scene which triggers an investigation involving three law enforcement groups, multiple criminal collusions, and billions of dollars.”

True Detective is arguably one of the best television programs on the air right now. It’s short, eight episode, first season kept fans of the show begging for more. WELL FOLKS, here is a little tiny teaser for you!

Season Two airs June 21st on HBO, and stars Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch.

On the train this morning I had “Far From Any Road” from The Handsome Family playing on my iPod. (Yes, I still carry an iPod. iPhones can’t carry all my music.) It’s a haunting yet comforting experience, listening to the Handsome Family’s Americana sound while seeing run down buildings, swamps, and other grim sights whiz by that lie between the suburbs of New Jersey to bustling Manhattan.

I thought about how it was a year ago that True Detective came and went, impacting the TV landscape like a bull in a china shop. I knew a second season was coming, but I was somewhat surprised it hadn’t come already.

Now we have a better idea of what the next True Detective season will look like. Movie Pilot is reporting details that involve Satanic cults and a conspiracy theory that references an actual theory that the General Motors company prevented the state from developing a better public transportation system so residents would be forced to rely on cars. That Los Angeles at rush hour is like a circle of hell, this doesn’t sound too far-fetched.

From Movie Pilot:

Yes, very early on in the preparation for the second season of True Detective, Nic Pizzolatto revealed that the new season would be taking viewers into the messy quagmire that is the “the secret occult history of the United States transportation system”. Specifically, as it pertains to California and the long standing conspiracy theory that General Motors kept the state from developing a decent public transportation system so that residents would continue to have to rely on cars.

This does indeed seem to be where season 2 of True Detective is taking us. The season is due to kick off with the dead body of a corrupt politician being found along the Pacific Coast Highway with satanic symbols carved into his chest. California Highway Patrol officers Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch are assigned the case.

It turns out the victim is a known associate of Vince Vaughn’s character and this dead man had a dark side involving some associations with S&M clubs – but perhaps most importantly, the man was in the middle of brokering a big deal that would solve the state’s gridlock problem.

Also on Movie Pilot are a ton of unofficial set photos that show Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch and Colin Ferrell doing police-y things while Vince Vaughn looks like, well, Vince Vaughn, but in a suit.

A corporate conspiracy interfering with government laws sprinkled with the occult? It altogether sounds very True Detective but also new territory I’m excited to see the series explore.

What do you think? Should this be the plot of season two if the rumors turn out to be true? While you comment below, I’m going to listen to this again.

Imagine this … you’re walking down a dark and desolate road when you’re approached by a stranger wielding a gun. How would you feel? Scared? Uncomfortable? Just the sight of such a deadly weapon would make almost anyone feel these types of emotions. Now, imagine the amount of fear our brave young soldiers must feel on a daily basis serving overseas in dangerous countries like Afghanistan, fighting against armed militants who don’t abide by the typical rules of war. Peter Berg’s Lone Survivor is for them. The strong men and women who protect our right to kiss our family goodnight and sleep safely in our beds. Perhaps no film has ever made me feel as proud and thankful for each and every member of our armed services. You are all heroes.

Lone Survivor tells the remarkable true story of a botched 2005 mission where four brave members of SEAL Team 10 found themselves under siege by an army of Taliban soldiers. Thankfully, someone lived to recount their harrowing tale of heroism and brotherhood. One that cuts right through the skin and penetrates straight to the center of your heart, where it belongs.

Lone Survivor 1

This isn’t Peter Berg’s first go-around with a middle east centered war film. The director already has 2007’s solid effort, The Kingdom, nestled away in his back pocket. However, his newest release, Lone Survivor, reaches insurmountable heights with an inarguably strong showing from its action-loving director and a relentless true story that goes far beyond anything you’d ever imagine. In a packed afternoon showing you couldn’t even hear the person next to you breathing, because chances are they weren’t. The feature’s intensity is numbing, almost paralytic. You don’t just watch these four soldiers combat against an army of dedicated religious fanatics, you experience it. Berg puts you in the center of the action, so much so that you feel every cut and you suffer with every gunshot wound. It’s mesmerizing and something you can only understand by witnessing first-hand.

Lone Survivor 2

Another impressive quality to the film is how expansive the story actually becomes. The most interesting facets of this real-life account exceed beyond what you’ll find in any trailer. There are moments of compassion and sympathy that play out in such a beautiful and earnest sequence. In addition to an exquisite story, Lone Survivor benefits from gutsy and respectful performances from all of its four main stars, Mark Wahlberg, Ben Foster, Taylor Kitsch and Emile Hirsch. Without question, there’s pressure to taking on roles that hold as much important as these ones do. The entire cast does a dignified job of bringing them to life, and perhaps no one is better than the regularly overlooked Ben Foster. He’s just marvelous, and I’ll leave it at that. There’s plenty to appreciate across the board, making Lone Survivor my new top film of 2013.

Okay, I’ll finally stop with the outpouring of love and quickly address one of the few shortcomings surrounding the feature. For example, its title … completely unnecessary! My guess is most people are unaware of the story’s details going into a viewing, so why give away the ending right off the bat? There are some moments in the third act where Berg attempts to build some tension and anxiety, but they’re weakened by a predisposed knowledge garnered from the film’s title. Yet, we can easily look past this error in judgment and its effects on the progression of the movie to appreciate Lone Survivor for what it truly is, one of the most gripping and worthwhile true stories you’ll ever encounter.

With filming set to begin this fall on the much anticipated sequel “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” speculation/rumor as to who will play the character of Finnick Odair are running rampant.

Last week saw the rumor that sparkly vampire Robert Pattison at been cast but those proved to be untrue, shocking, I know.

Well, this week we have more casting rumors to report. E! online is claiming that sources at Lionsgate are saying that the list of actors in contention is down to three. And those three actors are…. Armie Hammer, Taylor Kitsch, and Garret Hedlund.

Armie Hammer, most recognizable to audiences as the Winklevoss twins in “The Social Network,” will next be seen alongside Johnny Depp, where he will be playing “The Lone Ranger.” Taylor Kitsch, last seen in the bombs “John Carter” and “Battleship,” could use the work for sure, but his casting seems highly unlikely to me. Garret Hedlund, played the lead role in Disney’s “Tron Legacy” and was last seen in the film adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s “On The Road.”

While the source says the studio has narrowed it down to the three actors, yet another source claims that Lionsgate is also considering casting an unknown in the role. Who knows who will end up in the role, but it’s probably safe to assume that the role will be cast soon.

“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” begins filming this fall. Stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth are set to reprise their roles. “I am Legend” director Francis Lawrence is slated to direct.  The Quarter Quell begins in 2013.

Who's it gonna be?
