Briefly: Amber Tamblyn has joined the cast of Michael Paul Stephenson’s Girlfriend’s Day.

The project, written by Bob Odenkirk (Breaking Bad‘s Saul Goodman), also stars the actor as Ray, a has-been greeting card writer. In trying to recapture the feelings that once made him the greatest, Ray gets entangled in a web of murder and deceit as writers vie to create the perfect card for a new holiday: Girlfriend’s Day.

It sounds freaking hilarious, and Odenkirk’s persona and enthusiasm sound beyond perfect for the role.

Tamblyn will star opposite Odenkirk as an offbeat “Cardie” (fan of greeting card writers) whose involvement with Ray revives his seemingly lost talent.

The film is still in pre-production stages, and is set to begin principal photography early next year. As a big fan of Stephenson’s first two films, as well as Odenkirk’s wonderfully eccentric personality, I can’t wait to check out Girlfriend’s Day.

Are you looking forward to the film? Sound out below!

This sounds like an intriguing, clever project, with some fantastic names already attached.

Breaking Bad‘s Saul Goodman himself, Bob Odenkirk, has penned what sounds like a hilarious, touching film titled Girlfriend’s Day:

In a city where greeting card writers are celebrated like stars, romance writer Ray (Odenkirk) used to be the king. In trying to recapture the feelings that once made him the greatest, he gets entangled in a web of murder and deceit as writers vie to create the perfect card for a new holiday: Girlfriend’s Day.

It sounds ridiculously original, and it gets even better. Michael Paul Stephenson, director of fan (and Geekscape) favourites Best Worst Movie and The American Scream will helm the feature. This marks Stephenson’s narrative cinema debut, and after the wonderful work he’s done with his documentary projects, we couldn’t be more excited. Neither could anyone attached to the project by the sounds of it; Odenkirk states:

“Girlfriend’s Day is an offbeat comedy, but the characters are full of heart, searching for love and connection. Michael’s documentaries feature the same kind of likable offbeat characters, and I can’t wait to make this film”

Stephenson sounds equally delighted, and had this to say about the announcement:

“After reading Girlfriend’s Day, it felt like a discovery. Long before Girlfriend’s Day even came into the picture, I had Bob’s name down on a list of actors I’d hope to work with one day. I’ve been a fan of Bob’s for a long time, and feel that his dramatic sensibilities as an actor have been largely untapped. Girlfriend’s Day is rooted in themes that I believe in, and I’m honored to collaborate with Bob in telling a story that’s close to his heart.”

We can’t wait. Girlfriend’s Day is set to shoot this fall. We’ll update you as we learn more!

On an October Geekscapepod, Jonathan mentioned a little documentary called The American Scream. Produced and directed by Michael Stephenson (Best Worst Movie), the film follows three Halloween obsessed families on a journey to create a wonderful haunted house experience.

Jonathan was a fan of the film, and now you can be too! Magic Stone productions has just announced that The American Scream is now available on Blu-Ray/DVD, exclusively here!

The Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack is available for just $17.99, and would make a wonderful gift for any Halloween fan on your list! Check out the trailer below, and if you’re a fan of the film, let us know what you thought of it!

A man just jumped from the edge of space! Is there anything else to talk about than Felix Baumgartner? Yes… but not much! How about some new Spider-Man change ups from NYCC? Is Logan taking on the webslinger’s role? Is “The American Scream” worth scaring up this Halloween? How badly does “Arrow” miss the mark… if at all? What’s the latest on Comics on Comics? What about Doc of the Dead? Oh… AND A MAN JUMPED FROM THE EDGE OF SPACE!!!
