Kenny Baker who portrayed R2-D2 in the Star Wars films has passed away at the age of 81.

Despite only being 3 feet and 8 inches tall, Kenny Baker made the R2-D2 character a larger than life icon. He brought so much personality and emotions to a robotic character that would make a fan favorites for decades to come. Artoo wasn’t the only scene stealing character that he portrayed in the Star Wars Franchise. In ‘Return of the Jedi’ he was also Paploo, the Ewok that steals the speeder bike from the storm troopers.

Kenny Baker was a vital piece in the Star Wars machine. His and Anthony Daniel’s portrayal of the droids were a hit with fans that helped the characters spawn spin-off cartoons and comics.

Acting from the age of 16, Kenny Baker, has also been appeared many fan favorite films that include The Elephant ManTime BanditsWillow (1988), and Flash Gordon.
