It’s no secret that the Geekscape Games Podcast crew is just a bit critical of UbiSoft, and by ‘just a bit’ I mean ‘extremely’. While their business decisions in the past few years have made us collectively scratch our heads in bewilderment, today is one of those rare occasions in which we are thoroughly overjoyed by them.

Nearly ten years after its debut on XBOX 360 and PS3, the Assassin’s Creed franchise is taking the next step (or leap of faith) onto the big screen–and judging from the trailer which made its worldwide debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live–it looks absolutely fantastic!

The film features an original story as well as a brand new assassin by the name of Callum Lynch/Aguilar played by Michael Fastbender (X-Men: Age of Apocalypse). In addition, the film will star Jeremy Irons (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Brendan Gleeson (Edge of Tomorrow), and Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises).

Fans will get to see the live-action adaptation of the popular game franchise later this year on December 21.

What say you, Geekscapists? Does the trailer underwhelm, meet , or exceed your expectations? You can bet the Geekscape Games Podcast crew will have plenty to say about the trailer, and we would love to share your thoughts so sound off in the comment section below!

Briefly: We’re still well over a year away from its release, but Yahoo! Movies has just debuted our very first look at Michael Fassbender in the anticipated Assassin’s Creed film.

It’s hard to tell from just an image, but he looks to make a much better assassin than he does computer company CEO.

His character’s name is Callum Lynch, and Yahoo! notes that “Lynch discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society through unlocked genetic memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. After gaining incredible knowledge and skills he’s poised to take on the oppressive Knights Templar in the present day.”

So basically the plot sounds about as convoluted as it is in the game.

But we’re still excited anyways.

In any case, take a look at the image below, and let us know what you think! Assassin’s Creed hits theatres on December 21st, 2016!

Assassin

Last July we learned that Michael Fassbender will play Desmond Miles in the film adaptation of Assassin’s Creed, back in January it was revealed that Michael Lesslie would write the screenplay for the movie, and today, the release date for the picture was finally announced.

Unfortunately, the film is still over two years away. The film adaptation of Assassin’s Creed will hit theatres on May 22, 2015. No other information about the feature has been revealed at this time, and the film is still without a director, but I’d expect that to change very soon.

Video game movies are typically (or is it always) awful. Could Assassin’s Creed be any different?

That’s right folks! It was announced today that Michael Fassbender will not only be Co-Producing the Assassin’s Creed film adaptation, but he will be STARRING in it too!

“Michael Fassbender was our first choice” to play the franchise’s iconic hooded hero, said Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Paris-based Ubisoft Motion Pictures. “Michael (Fassbender) is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor.”

Talks with Sony have since halted and the French videogame developer has created it’s own studio, Ubisoft Motion Pictures, and plans on releasing not only the Assassin’s Creed movies on their own but Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon ones as well!

Though the release doesn’t say WHO Fassbender will be playing, we can all assume he is going to be the series protagonist Desmond Miles.

UPDATE: LA Times has now confirmed that the actor will be playing the role of Desmond Miles.

Fassbender, who will play Miles, has a unique cachet. He’s a highly skilled actor who’s also hugely popular, something that can’t be said of many of the actors who’ve tried this before.
